This is more fanart for Exterminatus Now

This started as a simple picture of Syrus "The Virus" Zuviel for Virus' birthday (which I'm about 20 minutes too early for I know)

I tried to copy Dan Smith's pose from Killer 7, the one where the gun is resting on his right shoulder. I've been playing Killer 7 a lot recently, it's a very stylish addictive title. My advice is to try before you buy though, it's not for everyone and I'm not just talking about the underage.

Unfortunately Sonic styled Anthromorphic characters have heads too big to make it look right. Which may be a blessing in disguise as it means I don't have to make the gun look good.

Then for some reason I had him looking to his left. I soon came up with the idea of this scene, giving something for Virus to look at.

I really liked the idea of Blasphemy Stealing Joz's Shades. It seemed like the kind of Evil yet playful thing Blasphemy would do.

The final consideration was on background. Do I just mess with Photoshops patterns/styles/gradiants like I have been doing, or trying something new. It just seemed right to draw my own background.

So I'll start there, The Background. I was thinking school when I drew it, but didn't actually want it to be defined as a school, more just a random building. Each window is a layer on it's own with it's own opacity. I also had a layer just for the moon's shine (Which you can just make out, Blasphemy covers up the moon) and the general darkness of Night.

Virus seems pretty good overall. Perhaps his left foot should be a little different but I don't think it really matters.

Blasphemy maybe should have the shades too big for him.

Joz looks a bit too young (He's meant to be 25) and his boots look a little small.

The picture itself is unrelated to anything. It's not a scene from a fanfic and it's not me trying to get into EN. It's just a picture of Virus that transformed into something much more.

Oh and for arguements sake, Joz is not gemcrazed or using his wealth sense. Therefore his eyes are his natural blue and not the unnatural hyper Sonic esque multi coloured flashing he uses the shades to cover up. If went the other way I would have to make it an animation just for the eyes. If someone can suggest an easy way around this problem I'm all ears.

Ah sorry mate, I only just saw this. Nifty, thanks ^^ Nice one. A genuinely playful moment from a creature for whom 'play' usually involves dismembering and/or ingesting something.

I should point out, the yellow bit on B's chest is a marking, not an object. It takes the shape of the dog collar of the original daemon, but it's just a mark, t'aint a real collar.

I'll keep that in mind if I ever draw Blasphemy again which is very likely.

As he's so small and quite easy to draw he's good for shading.

My Sleeping Blasphemy pic was the first pic I did in Photoshop and thus the first I shaded.

I want to try the SA Shading Tutorial sometime soon and I may use Blasphemy again for that. Highlighting by hand (using your tutorial just switching black for white) looks a little messy but it's the only technique I've learned so far.

Highlighting is a funny thing. I don't do it much, you'll notice, only on shiny things. And I find if you highlight in the same way you shade, it gives an odd kind of 'bevel' effect.

Okay, quick diagram. Ya gotta think in 3D, and how light falls on solid objects.

Top is the funny bevel thing. I don't like that. Sonic X is a bit like that. Middle is how I think highlights should be done. Bottom is trying to show why. I dunno if that makes sense or not?

Anyways, highlighting makes that cylinder seem to have a slightly shiny surface, and for matte surfaces, I usually just don't bother. Of course in Uekawa style shading, 3D goes out the window, and it's all purely stylistic (which is fine, and intentional).

Yeah I've kinda noticed that too. I do try and leave a small space between the edges and my highlights, like the pic above. Some of my earlier shading, such as Streak, Young miles 1 and Casual joz took the highlights to the end.

Though my lack of patience shows through on more complicated pics like Angel Storm (though to be fair I did do that late at night) and My SA0 cover

The top one looks like a hexagonal prism.

Either that or I'm weird.

I agree, looks like a hexagonal pencil. Yet the eye doesn't read it like that in the lower one, even though the shaded bit is exactly the same.
