http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/02/16/news_6118679.html For those who can't be bothered to read all of it, heres a summary: Assemblyman Leland Lee proposed an anti-game bill around January 2004 to prevent and prosecute the sale of violent games to minors in stores. Course, the bill failed to get supported, losing out on 2 of a total of 7 seats required to pass. Now, it seems, he wants to revive this dead bill. With the backing of the Girl Scouts (the hell?) and the California Parent-Teachers Association., he hopes, with some chanegs to the bill, that it will be enough to get people to support it and get it passed. The bill will effect games from M and over including Halo 2, Half Life 2, Doom 3, Resident Evil: outbreak, Psi Ops: Mindgate consiracy, and least not forget, GTA: San Andreas. Of course, Entertainment Merchants Association is already fighting back, and will once again rally other communities and groups against this renewed bill. ................ You would have thought he'd given up, since so many other bills similar to this have failed before and the fact that they inflict with several free-speech rights and stuff. |

Girl Scouts? No. Oh no. Oh not at all. You do not ask Girl Scouts for backing of a Government Bill. That's one step away from asking your fucking DOG. Ahem. |

Honestly, I have to say that there ARE games that should be kept out of the hands of most children, and that steps should be taken as a result. Just a simple ID check is all I'd ever go for. Since the details on the legislation aren't out yet, I'll withhold judgement. The guy does seem like a bit of an idiot, but even so. Games have a rating system for a reason, just like movies. Kids aren't allowed to see R rated movies without parental consent, and the same should apply to buying M rated games. Of course, this is all overshadowing the real problem, which is that the parents don't know or care about the rating system and buy their kids whatever the hell they want in order to shut them up. |

Look at it this way. Aren't you happy headcases like that are keeping themselves busy with things that have NO CHANCE of passing? Do you even want to imagine what they might unleash on the world if they got bored with trying to ban just about every game short of Tetris? |
