I dont know if it's just me or not, but i seem to suck at games now. At first I thought maybe after a huge gap of easiness games suddenly took a sharp turn into being difficult, however i do not think this is the case after deciding to play halo 2 and thinking to myself "god i've had this crap since christmas i really need to complete it" a could'nt play the game Master Chief was moving around like some sort of deranged monkey and i died constantly not being able to find the person responsible for shooting me. Then i started playing that Street Fighter Online thing, doing the single player story mode, and i could'nt even manage to get past the first fight, and it wasnt the controls since i've played street fighter before on a PC. So anyway my point, is it just me or is anyone else finding they're getting worse at games? |

I don't feel my skills decaying, but whenever I go back to games I think I've mastered I always struggle. Went back to Alex Kidd in miracle world not too long ago, with a couple of plays at www.everyvideogame.com. I couldn't even get passed the first level. |

When I went back to Soul Calibur (Training for SCII before it came out), I sucked the big one. I got better though. |

I wouldn't say it's you that's getting worse (though your skills might be a bit rusty)... It's all those other buggers out there with too much time on their hands, spending their every waking moment on these games, training like their lives depended on it. I mean, how can you even HOPE to compete with someone like that? |

Too true. One of my flatmates from my first year at uni only ever played Mario Kart 64 and Goldeneye. While I'd probably kick his arse on any other game, for those two I needed to do something very special to win. Except on Rainbow Road when he insisted on using the difficult to use shortcut and I never bothered. |

It's a two-fold punch, both parts already mentioned. First, there's the lack of playing that particular game. You get used to the controls of whatever other games have caught your fancy, and while some of the main moves and techniques may stay in your long-term memory, you still become rusty. Once you get back to the game, you may still be able to use your favorite character, but just not with the same skill as before. If you had focused on a different game of a similar genre, you may even find yourself trying to do moves from that game subconsciously. The second, as mentioned, is playing against someone who's been focusing on the game while you have not, thus still maintaining that edge... or, quite possibly, one of those people who focus way too much time and energy trying to be the best player possible. While the latter may be more devestating that the former, you can still notice that you aren't playing as well as you used to. It's just one of the facts of the gaming life. Either you dedicate yourself, or you become rusty. |

Last night just competed in a huge Halo 2 game... and i died a total of 47 times, in a two on two first to 50 match... next game, 34 times... next game was a one on one first to 25, and i played against the best player there, 3 times best case for being rusty, you learn more quickly to be good again, worst case, like me and Mashed, you were deluding yourself into thinking you can play the game in the first place.... it all boils down to how much time since your last game, and how much time you spend re-mastering it EDIT: spelling |

My skills aren't getting 'rusty' cause I completed jak3 in two days, but that might just be a very easy game. |

once or twice a month i'll have a time span where i can't beat a patch of a game i think it's normal because if we always found it easy it would get boring |

game skills are like a funny shaped lump of metal, regular use keeps it clean but if you leave it alone for too long it rusts untill all sembalance of of the origanal thing is gone and you have to spend hours fixing it. |
