SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

WHAT IS ELENLOND?

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

Even from her swamp she could feel it. The sensation of how the world changed was felt upon her skin, as droplets and beads of water rolled over her skin. She could hear it in the whispers that brought the breeze, rustling the leaves on their wake. Many happenings were brewing outside the confines of swamp, she knew it. Soon it would be time to travel the world and unravel the mysteries, sowing the seeds of discontent and discord so the cycle could begin anew as it had always done. The Dryad would only need to be patient, for time she had to spare and the hand of destiny was already moving.

She sat in her lodge, hidden from the prying eyes of men and fae alike. A place were she could conduct her studies, were the changing tides of decay felt stronger, alienating adventure seekers. It was only the company of beasts the one she had. And that of souls and whisps and motes of light summoned by her incantations, flying aimlessly and casting a ghostly light upon those that would dare to thread the treacherous paths of the swamps. Her eyes slowly darted upon lines of crimson cast against ancient parchment.

A murder of crows sang as they landed upon the roof of her lodge, surely feasting on some prey as they fought to rip the flesh for nourishment. The brass lamp slowly burned the oil it contained, casting the light that her eyes of molten gold used to read until whispers from a shade beckoned at her. There was a visitor coming it seemed. Lost in the maze that the swamp could be. Placing the scroll down, the Drayd incorporated herself, plucking her staff from a derelict corner of her lodge, stepping to the grey sky above and the murky waters beneath.

A whisp flew at her like haze as she extended her hand and the ethereal flame hovered closely to her palm. "...Be their guide... bring them to me..." Ilazki whispered, a soft breath pushing the whisp forward. It was only a matter of waiting and she had time to spare.

Something had changed deep in the forest. Far away from her tribe but they had felt the ripples nonetheless. The trees were speaking as it were, a darkness had descended to the south. The wind could barely reach their village deep in the forest. Elsie was on a separate mission, a mission to better her people, find new magic or herbs to help their numbers grow again. She could feel the stirrings though, she had seen the unnatural growth of the forest. Her quest involved the search for knowledge, and knowledge had lead her here. The edge. The edge of the only life she had ever known. The trees had given way to a soggy ground. She dared not touch the earth, she could see the sheen of water through the tangled undergrowth. She had never seen a place so full of water, so little trees. How was she to move forward? The trees in this place were twisted, black, rotting, dying, they barely had branches and the branches they did have she could not trust to place her weight.

The sky was a dim gray, dark to the eyes of day dwellers but the light was almost too bright to her wide blue gray eyes and her pupils nearly slits against the shadowless landscape. She placed a small hand over her brow to cast a deeper shadow for her eyes to adjust but this strange light was hard to peer through. She hoped night would descend soon so she could see again.

The air was cloyingly close in this summer heat, it was hard to breathe through the humidity. She took her staff and stabbed the ground for any sense of solidarity. Nothing, it just gave way to a wet muck and she could feel no bottom from her perch on this low lying branch.

As she pulled her staff back from the mire to replace it on the strap on her back, an even brighter light decided to flit about near her face. She held back the urge to hiss like a small cat as she pulled her hands up to protect herself from this new onslaught of light. She tried to bat at it to see if she could chase this bug away but it would not leave her. It was as if it was beckoning her.

She slowly dropped her arms and squinted at the ball of flame. It wasn't any kind of insect she had seen before. It was much bigger and it was literally a ball of flame. It was trying to be enchanting, she could tell but it was just so blaringly bright against this already bright new world.

"Okay okay, I'll come, just tone it down, will ya? Can you get me somewhere safe?" She asked it, not really knowing if it would respond, or even lead her anywhere.

It gently flew a little farther out and stopped, she had the feeling that it was waiting for her. Did this world always have to be so bright?

She took her staff again and tested the ground near the wisp. It was actually solid. Interesting, She prayed to the moon to guide her, protect her, keep her from the sickening water, and she jumped lightly from her place on the last branch of the forest onto the ground in the swamp. It wasn't quite as solid as the forest floor of her home, but it held her none the less. Her bare feet felt the moss and grew wet quickly. Slime, it felt like slime. Ew...

The wisp had started to move on, swaying back and forth in a lazy fashion, guiding her forward. She didn't have anywhere else to go, and no way to get around this mire. It seemed like this was the only way to go, follow this ball of flame wherever it took her. Her vision was still compromised and it was hard to see the wisp against the bright backdrop. She used her staff to support her but it quickly grew tiresome as it sank into the mushy ground more than her feet. She decided to strap it to her back instead. The ground grew increasingly mushy, she didn't like being on the ground for so long.

Sweat began to bead on her brow and drip through the white tattoo and into her eyes. She hoped this fireball would lead her somewhere she could climb on soon.

After a while of following this ember through the muck she looked up to see a darker shadow on the landscape. She couldn't figure out its shape but it filled her with hope. Perhaps it was a lodging she could rest in until night fully descended. She couldn't see the figure at first, she was still mostly blinded by the strange half light through the clouds. Through her squinting though she saw a movement of a humanoid shape and she called out.

"Hello? Hello? Can you help me? I can't see very well! I'm tired." Her last words were almost a whimper. This bright wide world was almost too much for her already.

She awaited in long sepulchral silence for the coming of her unexpected guess as the ripples that had broke away space and time continued untangled and moving in discord as she attempted to read on it's significance. Much was happening, unseen by the world as seeds of the past began to grow into saplings of causality. Perhaps this new visitor could shed a light on what she sought and aimed for. Even if whatever answer she had was unsatisfactory.

The motes and spirits at her command spoke in whispers as they lead the visitor towards her. The sudden cries of help at the distance resounded in her ears for her to explore the murk covered outlook of the woman that seemed to appear. Silently she would climb down the steps that led into the lodge, towards the shake boardwalk, as she extended a hand towards her guest.

With dark clouds above her, her stoic and hard features softened to include a welcoming smile of her new guest. "Please, come in." She said in a sweet tone that she would hardly think of using in her normal persona. "The swamps can be dangerous, come in." She repeated once more, pulling her guest from the swamp and leading her towards the narrow corridors of her lodge, lit by the flames of candles, yet leaving a certain darkness upon the edifice. "Make yourself comfortable, shall I fetch nourishment and a beverage for you? You look famished and exhausted." She said truly, indeed she was but a frail thing in her opinion.
