You bargained your prayers to the Gods for protection, you bargained your memories to the spirits for courage, and you bargained your body by toiling in the fields for long hours so that when times like this came, you had made all the deals possible to tip the scales in your favor. Now they were to hold sacred the lives and property of those they had once called 'enemy'. Word had been given to them. The promise of the Mother's mercy. That word had been obeyed so as not to divide loyalty between them. But there was conflict in Llewellyn's heart. It was a complicated situation, and she could not determine the outcome. After all, the war was not yet done. The weather warmed, as well as her affection for the city. Within a month, it was as if she had always been there. Even as the children of the city opened their arms and embraced the new change, some of the adults remained distant. They stayed out of the way. Llewellyn knew they were all good people by the way they treated their families and other citizens. She also knew that everything was different for them now and it would take some time to adjust. Llewellyn wanted to give them words of encouragement, but she knew that they would not hear it. It became evident that Madrid seemed to have a chronic problem with homeless children running around. Had it always been this way? It did not take her long to find out that it had. Such a pity. Many of them were well adjusted to living in the streets, but the Druids were quick to take them in and create an orphanage out of one of the many abandoned buildings. Llewellyn had taken on the daunting task of altering the girls' and boys' robes when their thin frames began to gain much-needed weight. She helped to educate them in the basics of the vital and dynamic nature spirituality of Druidry. Soon they would truly know how it united their love of the earth with their love of creativity and the arts. She was no teacher, but she began to feel it after some time. Spoiler: click to toggle Most of them, mainly the littlest ones, were quite fascinated with the practice. Eventually, they were asking her permission to do things, such as play in the woods on a warm day, or ride a horse. Even more surprisingly, when she did have to scold, they listened. The older children, however, remained rebellious, suspicious, and overall, terribly unruly. They would disobey the simplest of requests and did as they liked. The Archdruid told them that they simply need time; that they needed patience, and that the children would come around sooner or later. What other choice did she have but to believe? It wasn't until a warm and sunny day when the Mother showed herself to them that they became still. They stared at her with fear and awe. She seemed to have that effect on almost everyone. It was only after that that they became amenable, and she did not need to wonder why. A walk in the park was a pleasure to do when Llewellyn was not hard at work or meditating in the woods with the other druids. The colors of the flowers were bright and beautiful in the morning dew. The peacefulness was very strange. Quietness was such a change from all the fighting that had been going on as of late, but she relished the moment, for she knew that it could not last for long. She had to count it as a real plus. After all, the war was not yet done. |
