SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

WHAT IS ELENLOND?

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

...urk, haha. This might just be me being a little too used to certain systems in other sites I've been in, but like I said before in the chat, it would be helpful if there's something that could keep track of which roleplayer plays which characters. Although I think somebody said that you guys tried it before and not many used it, or something? And there's people who list their other characters in their signature, too... alternatively, the roleplayer's forum nickname could be in the miniprofile?

Well, this is more just things I noticed, and they're mostly just for convenience... you could tell who the roleplayer is by viewing the profile, and I guess I'm just new here and I could get used to it. Just suggesting, although I haven't really done much in the site for now >.>

    Thanks for reading!

User nicknames are usually listed on the account profile – the page you get if you click on the account name to the left of someone's post. This is generally what I do if I'm unsure.

We had a sort of registry for a while, but it was hard to keep it updated, as it was up to the player to report their characters and people almost never remembered to do it. I like the mini-profile idea, and we may well just go for it, but we'll have to see.

Just wanted to suggest a possible couple of contests around things that add lore to the Elenlond world. Nothing overly large, but maybe one month there is a contest for coming up with a new animal? Then the next a new plant? Then a mineral/metal? And maybe the top three or four could be added to a part of the world lore dealing with that kind of thing?

Just thinking like, people could invent a new animal, write up it's appearance, habits, what it eats, what climate it is indigenous to, etc.

This is a sweet idea but it would make more sense if we had any sort of pre-existing lore article, such as a bestiary, for that kind of thing. As it is, there is none: we have lore articles for the countries, historical/plot events and that's about it, because those are essential to Elenlond's fabric. We let people invent their own flora, fauna and materials as they please. Our lore is already a big read (though not as much as some places), so I think it's best not to add more.

I think it's a fun idea. We could always set up a form for players to submit their own little articles, maybe even link it to the explorer's guild or something hehe. Since so much of the lore is basically optional whether you want to be a part of it or not, or read this or that, and is relatively flexible, it's a neat way to include something that sort of embraces both writing and illustration if people feel they wanna do that, as well as people's interests in things like geology and biology.

    Maybe something to think about?

Hrm... how about a country that's specifically predominantly non-human?

//this thread is becoming an assortment of ideas XD

And then she was gone, her hips swinging as the knives jostled her thighs, passing by guards with her head held high, a haughty smile upon her lips.

There could be countries that are predominantly non-human, but they would exist outside of the four that are actually in play, I think. I say that because most characters are human/humanoid and none of these countries have ever been comprised of predominantly non-human characters, so, at least in my opinion, it would be kind of weird to suddenly say, for example, that Soto is mostly non-humans. However, I see no reason why there can't be communities of non-human creatures and why those communities couldn't be prominent or expand. So as such there could be the potential for lore on that.

    ^ agreed with Shadow!

there's plenty of flexibility here. c: if you feel like anything is lacking or have an idea (like communities of non-human creatures) you can always type up your own lore and put it under chronicles or your character's profile. for instance, I made up a bunch of lore about the realm of death and the denizens therein. while it's not canon, I welcome everyone to use it and take inspiration from it if they'd like. likewise you can definitely type up something for your own community and insert it into the world at large.

    Hello all!

We've taken all this into account, and the changes we want to make will be made all together so they can be bunched up into one announcement. First, we'll definitely add a player section to the mini-profiles.

Second, after thinking about it for a bit, it looks like we're all in favor of a Member-Contributed Lore forum that would be a sub-forum to the regular Lore forum. We won't have competitions; rather, members will be free to post lore articles. I just wanted to put up how we were thinking of doing it to see what y'all think! So, here's a rundown:
    • Posts will need to be reviewed and then approved by a staff-member; the board will be set up so that posts that haven't been approved yet can't be seen by the general public. Staff-members will be checking posts for consistency with general lore, for grammar, spelling and readability. Inconsistencies will be worked through with the poster, while grammar and spelling mistakes and such alterations will be edited without consent by the staff (nothing significant will be changed). It's worth noting that, as staff generally have quite a bit on their plates, both on and off-site, these lore articles will not be top priority.
    • The forum will likely not have any sub-divisions (eg. between countries).
    • The content that members are allowed to write about will be slightly restricted:
      • Member-contributed lore articles can only cover subjects not covered by pre-existing lore articles. Basically, you can't re-write the history of Morrim. You could, however, extend upon pre-existing information about Ashokan religion; fill in the gaps, so to speak.
      • Articles about common fantasy races will be instantly rejected. As it's unpractical to make a comprehensive list (what if we forget kobolds or something?), that decision will be up to the staff's discretion (eg. we've had a few kobold characters in the past, I would consider that a common enough fantasy race).
The reason for this is that Elenlond is very uch a free-form site. It is common on lots of other sites to have extensive race lists, but we just don't want to do that. It's about not limiting people. So, if you want to explain more about your interpretation of a race because your character is of that interpretation, do it in your character's profile.
There's some caveats to this for which I will need even FURTHER sub-lists (I love lists)
        • CUSTOM races are free-game to write an article about. I may very well do this for the Xeïtros because I created that race all by myself and so I'm not stepping on anyone's toes by describing them.
        • Sub-groups of races, like sub-species, may be fair game. For example, if you have a cool creative idea about jell-o elves, then by all means go for it. This also applies, for example, to particular cultural groups of elves, such as elves who only eat pasta or something.
        • I am not sure how to phrase this last thought so I'll just use an example. I may very well decide to write about some ancient cities of elves that fell for special reasons (to even get into it right now would be spoilers~); I'd be sure to say that this is not indicative of all elves.

    • It might be cool to present pretty much every article as an IC excerpt of text. For example, I would write the Xeïtros article as if it was an except from An Anthology of Races by Wormius the Wormiest. This may be optional.
    • It might be good to have a bestiary thread and a flora article, with little forms to fill out which have fields like Name, Range, Description, Life Cycle or something. It's this or insist on In Character presentation, that way we have a good reason for having a bunch of bestiary articles; they're just excerpts from different Bestiaries, one by Fartius Maximus and one by Grundor the Long-Nosed. I would appreciate it if people weigh in on this issue!
    • Finally, articles by people who disappear may be archived. For example, if I disappeared, I hardly think my Xeïtros article would be relevant any more because Kupselion wouldn't be around any more. So, removing it to prevent clutter would be totally justified.

    What do y'all think????

I love it all, but I feel like you haven't described the organizational method enough. (Not trying to offend, just looking to understand the end goal better.) You said that the forum will likely not have any subdivisions- but the organization looks like it will be based on individual posts.

Will there be a system that distinguishes articles on beasts/races from plants/substances? I feel like that if all the posts were thrown into one 'folder' it would become hard to navigate between topics.

Also, would you consider complex magic systems (such as that one idea about the 'gate' realms, or my Fyodor's rune system, or a recipe list for potions/poisons) of enough merit for an article?

(And this is just an idea)
If it was divided into topics, would you consider a format for post titles to make searching easier?
