SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

WHAT IS ELENLOND?

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

    Amyntas

    BASIC

Name – Amyntas [real name unknown]
    Age – ???
    Gender – Male
    Alignment – Neutral Evil
    Social Class – Exile, commoner
    Occupation –  Inquisitor
    Race – Human
    Nationality – None (foreigner)
    Weapons

✢ Chain and Blade: Wrapped around each forearm and extending to a max length of 10 ft, Amyntas carries a chain weapon in each hand. The chain links are made of a fine, lightweight black metal. Each ends in a wickedly curved black scythe, about 6 inches in length and capable of ripping flesh. (See abilities below for specific uses and magic).

✢ Long Knife: In addition to his main weapon, he keeps a long knife strapped to his thigh for closer combat.

    APPEARANCE

No one has formally "seen" Amyntas. Catching a glimpse of his face is considered a rare honor. More than not, he wears a carved brass mask, giving his voice a tinny, otherworldly quality. He claims it is for protection, but many people assume otherwise. At 5'11, he cuts a relatively tall figure.

In addition, he appears to be heavily swathed despite Ashoka's incinerating heat. He wears gauntlets, a winding turban and -- atop that -- a cloak that shields his head, putting much of his face into shadow. His arms are completely covered at all times. Despite this, it is obvious that he has a lanky, fit build; he is whipcord and extremely fast.

The first thing people notice about him -- besides his strange garb -- is the fact that he clinks. Endlessly. In fact, there appear to be fine black chains wrapped around his forearms, given the noise they make. In the rare times his neck is exposed, the raw scars of being manacled are very visible, appearing as bright red stripes. The same marks are evident on his ankles and wrists.

    True Appearance

    PERSONALITY

CYNICAL ✢ Amyntas is wry. He has a black, twisted sense of humor that seems unfailing even in the worst situations. It makes people think of him as inhuman and void of empathy or vision. In truth, Amyntas knows exactly how the universe and society works. He knows that it is a hierarchy of power, and feels utterly powerless to stop it. While he can understand idealism and other points of views, he prefers to side with those in power, understanding that they will always win.

CULTURED ✢ Amyntas could function well in courts and high society. He is a voracious reader, especially of poetry; he frequents operas, plays, and other artistic functions, making no pretense about them. He is in the habit of quoting poets and philosophers, and is a deep thinker. He often reflects on society and the place of man within them -- he has a great emotional intelligence, however, that does not make him kind. Still, he is strangely infatuated with bygone ideas of chivalry, and tends to be polite and gentlemanly off-duty. He is well-spoken, and to see him outside of his job, many would think him an eccentric, not a brute capable of war crimes.

DETACHED ✢ Amyntas holds a very clinical view towards his circumstances and acquaintances. He understands that it is a temporary occupation, and that his goddess holds him in her clutches. He is no longer a free agent, never was, and must adapt like water. He tends to analyze things and extricate his own feelings from the matter. He is a survivalist, above all, and will not hesitate to throw people in danger if it ensures that he lives another day. As such, he cannot afford loyalties beyond professional circumstances.

REALISTIC ✢ He is a monster, and has accepted this almost fatalistically. There are moments where he breaks down in regret, but on the job, Amyntas cannot afford such weakness. He realizes that he will never function in human society, and views himself as a separate creature, perhaps divine in his strangeness. The other option is to become consumed with grief and collapse, but he has Things to Do. He does not shirk from his nature, using his nightmarish abilities to gain jobs and leverage over people. He often plays on people's fear and ignorance, knowing that he can't convince them to think of him otherwise. He thinks of himself as more intelligent than the common populace, and does not care for their opinions. In fact, he is markedly self-confident and seems to radiate a sense of purpose and inner peace. The comfort of a man who knows precisely what he is and precisely what he is capable of, and has ceased to be ashamed of it.

TENACIOUS ✢ Once he has accepted a job, Amyntas will complete it--provided it does not endanger his ultimate goals, of course. Ultimately, his final authority is his goddess; if she rejects something, he will obey without question, everyone else be damned. Still, he has gained a reputation as being driven and efficient. Once Amyntas has marked someone for interrogation or destruction, he will pursue them until death: his or theirs.

    FUN FACTS:

    • Amyntas has horrible breath and chews a red herb called murreh. It has a minty scent and stains the lips and teeth of the chewer a dark red color, almost like blood. It also has the quality of an anesthetic. As a result, Amyntas tends to feel pleasantly numb most of the time, especially his face (all the better, given that he is usually sunburnt). He also smokes lho on occasion, to relieve his chronic pain. Without either of these substances, he is frighteningly angry and unstable.

    • Amyntas loves the rain and otherwise gloomy/cooler weather. He finds too much sun rather… abhorrent.

    HISTORY

Amyntas is conspicuously close-lipped on his origins. However, his strange accent marks him as a foreigner, his goddess moreso. It is clear that he did not originate from the mainland -- but he does not mention where off the mainland. Some speculate that he came from across the sea itself, a nightmare right out of a forbidden land. He seems content to let people think the Isle of Storms, and goes no further.

What is clear is that he is bound to a bloodthirsty goddess he refers to as Al Ruh Gor. He gave up his life, health and body in servitude to her, exchanging it for supernatural powers and possibly immortality. However, she is constant need of blood sacrifice -- as a result, he tends to ghost around war-torn, nightmarish places. He's found a niche under Orion's rule, as the Inquisition encourages bloodshed and brutality (and it's a nice income).

His ultimate intentions, however, are unclear...

    FIRST FIVE

    • Shadow Walker – Amyntas can melt into shadows and appear wherever there is enough shadow to emerge from. He can also only disappear/reappear within his range of vision--he cannot come out of shadows he can't see. Also, size is a limiting factor. For example, he can emerge from a person's shadow and easily assassinate them--but he cannot emerge from a tiny shadow cast by a chihuahua. He can also use this to hide and eavesdrop. Physical attacks will not harm him when he is hiding within a shadow -- however, he is vulnerable to magic attacks (especially light/holy/clerical magic). He cannot attack while hiding; only when he physically emerges. He can be detected by people sensitive to spirits/demons/unnatural magics.

    • Manipulate Chains – Amyntas wields a chained weapon ending in a scythe blade in each hand. He can extend these chains to their full length of 10 feet and retract them magically at will, as well as fuse them together. They can be used to strangulate people, whip them, or wrap around their limbs and drag them around. He can also use them as grappling tools, using the scythe to lodge into wood or other soft substances and swing on them. They have no magical qualities and can be fended off with physical weapons, shields, etc. Note: this ability only applies to his chain weapon. He cannot manipulate other chains.

    • Night Vision – Amyntas can see perfectly in the dark. However, he is more sensitive to light in the dark; if you were to foist a torch in front of him, it would temporarily blind him. Same with bursts of light magic or other clerical spells.

    • Whisper – Amyntas' second head can sense disturbances in the nether (such as illusory magic, demons, planar beings, ghosts, etc) and threats approaching from his blind spots. It will often whisper in warning, or mutter cryptic things to him. In a way, it functions as a sixth sense, a touchstone for his goddess to communicate with him. She will issue orders through her Mark and occasional, vague mutterings of the future.

    • Numb Flesh – Due to the drugs he ingests -- as well as his increasing loss of humanity -- Amyntas has a very high pain tolerance. He is largely oblivious to extreme temperatures, allowing him to wear black on a sweltering Ashokan summer day or endure chilling weather. In addition, he will not slow down from shallower stab wounds, punching, etc. However, deep internal injuries (such as broken bones, severe stab wounds) or traumatic injuries (burning from magic, fire, etc) are felt, though their pain is somewhat lessened. In other words, being cut or punched like a meatbag won't slow him down, but being set on fire or stabbed deeply will.

Also, pain tolerance does not mean that Amyntas is invincible. He still bleeds and suffers injury like a normal person; he can easily die from blood loss, broken limbs, etc. It is a double edged sword--on one hand, he can fight through pain. On the other, he is less likely to recognize when his condition is critical, and endanger himself through overexertion.
