SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

WHAT IS ELENLOND?

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

    Loknai

Such a beautiful night, stars shining bright in the sky over the Ashokan desert as Loknai wandered down the Kaadian Way. His journey so far had been rather boring. Not another soul had been encountered in the weeks since he left his village. Stopping at several oases along the way when he ran low on water, he was down to several wax-paper wrapped meals of hardtack. Sitting in the light of his campfire, he slowly ate his meal and hoped for some kind of adventure to find him as he was close to the border between his homeland and Soto.

And with his sword my breast he cleft, / My quaking heart thereout he reft, / And in the yawning of my breast / A coal of living fire he pressed.

    “Good evening. Nailah's blessings...”

The voice drifted from nowhere, grating and full of an awful hiss. But the tongue was Ashokan, through and through—an accent of the North, of the City of Oracles and the Badlands. The figure that approached, armored, had stooped somewhat, as if attempting to de-emphasize his own height; he touched his metal mask as if to make sure it was in place, nestled in the chain beneath his horned helm.

The construct had seen the light of a campfire from afar and wondered at it. It was not often that desert men wandered far from the desert, and this one—the silhouetted figure, eating in the heavy silence—was unmistakably a desert man: Even past his gear and stance, Glede could feel the dry, survivalist familiarity of a man accustomed to the sands.

“May I join you?” Toneless, unreadable. He had stopped at a certain distance, the light of the campfire licking and glinting on his black mail. “I am weary from traveling alone for many days. I would be pleased to have your company—this night, at least.”

Looking up at the greeting, Loknai glanced towards the black shape on the edge of his fire's light. Knowing he had not taken the effort to conceal the light from his fire, he had not expected someone to find him, after weeks of isolation.
"Feel free friend. The fire is warm, and it is good to see another soul. Even the oases seem empty these past weeks." Inspecting the strange shape of the armor worn by the other traveller, he noticed the hands and mask worn, and wondered just what this man was. "I am afraid I have little to offer in the way of food, simply some hardtack and water."

And with his sword my breast he cleft, / My quaking heart thereout he reft, / And in the yawning of my breast / A coal of living fire he pressed.

“Ah—that they do, stranger.” He laughed and began his approach, at once both delicate and clomping, to the nomad and his campfire; in the dimness, he examined the man's face, struck suddenly by his youth. Wandering aged a man, he reflected. As much was clear here: From afar he might have taken him for a seasoned traveler of the desert, whipcord-muscled and tatter-clothed as he was. He wondered how long this strange man had been traveling, but knew better than to ask. “In the scrubs, at least, one learns to treasure the few encounters one has. And I have not passed a man on the Kaadian yet—save you—who does not wish to be left alone.

“Not that I would dwell in the city, mind you. I have just come from Eldahar and it is a terrible place.”

Another laugh scraped in his throat; he sank cross-legged on the other side of the fire, watching the warm, shadowed face of the stranger ripple in the heat. Something about the constant crackle put him at ease; he found himself wishing, suddenly melancholy, he could feel the heat. He could not even remember how the warmth of a fire's flame felt against one's skin, or how wonderful a reprieve it might have been from the lonely chill of late winter.

He waved a hand, shaking his head.

“Fear not. I am content to sit here. Sustenance--” A pause. “I have... eaten awhile ago. It is no concern.” A blatant and pitiful lie, he thought, but what else could he say? He regarded the other nomad curiously, voice hesitant: “Whence do you come? Your accent is familiar to me, but I cannot place it. Somewhere in the Western deserts, perhaps?”

"I have never been to a city. A small village in the desert has been my life. Only left several weeks ago truth be told. The desert can be harsh, but I have not had the troubles our village elders had warned of. No marauding bandits, serpents, or anything save the occasional sandstorm." Inspecting the stranger, he noticed the somewhat stiff movement and the checked speech about having eaten. "Where do you hail from, you sound akin to the travelling merchants from the northern stretches."

A small village in the desert! Glede almost envied him. To know nothing but the same faces, the chores, the routines--the lull of the whipping sands beyond the cluster of huts and tents. Did his village border on a small oasis, or were they nomads? Did they take their village with them? That this man had never previously strayed far from his village surprised the construct.

At the mention of other warned-of things in the desert, Glede winced, shivering with a rustling of metal. “Yes.” His reply was hesitant. “Much talk of the great serpents and worse are lies to scare children. And bandits... only on the roads best-traveled. I would have wagered you to have come across at least one or two on the Kaadian, but I have seen few. They care more for Morrim these days.

“However--take care, stranger. There is worse in the deep desert. I have fought such things--recently--and...” He broke off, not wont to think of the skin-changer, the mortal flesh bleeding into necromantic abomination. “Nailah keep us from the mouth of Kahlid,” he whispered.

At the mention of his home, he laughed--an unpleasant sound. To lie, or to tell the truth? Ah, but the gods frowned upon lying.

“I have suffered many difficulties with my memory of late. Some of my past lies to me beyond a barrier--distant. Clouded. But I hail, I think, from the City of Oracles. I was trained as a healer there, though I have lost much of that power by now.” Another laugh. “You would not think me a healer, looking like this. But I am--and trained. Have you any affinity for magic?”
