SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

The eruption that roared ahead was soon followed by the sounds of wood shattering and glass breaking. Black smoke billowed from what should have been the shingled roof of her home and filled the sky above, only for it to be carried eastward by a mighty gust that tauntingly threw her hair into disarray as though to add insult to injury. She could smell the odor of the ruin from here and she dare not approach further, though in the back of the mind she wondered if she could even manage such a task. She only noticed the debris that scattered to the air where it would have been too late but fortune dictated she would be harmed by it. Tile crashed into the dirt not even a foot away from her and broke on impact with pieces flying here and there. She could have sunk to her knees and bemoaned her situation. Admittedly it was one that was precarious. She knew it could have happened if anything in her house was mishandled beyond carelessly.

With wide-eyed eyes affixed upon the sight she thought about the situation and came to the conclusion that someone must have broken into her home, again, and deliberately gone into her back room. It was the only way something like this could have happened.

“I thought I made it clear enough.” She silently reminisced. The door to her sanctum was a heavy and thick oak door with a keypad lock and two latch locks of its own. While it had no practical use for it, she plastered a sign to the side of the door that read, “Caution: Volatile”, for the inevitable moment when someone other than her stumbled upon the door. A sane mind would have probably left it alone. She inhaled deeply and held her breath. Sharply, she clenched her eyes shut.

“What the hell were they thinking? That I put the sign up for giggles and that there was actually a stash of diamonds and doubloons somewhere behind the Alchemist Fire?” She exhaled and shook her head slowly and looked upon the sight. As painful as it was, she couldn’t tear her eyes away.

After the recent incident, Pheonitia had decided to adopt a new approach to this world she now resided in. Yes, with her Lord’s impending arrival she would have to reconsider her previous goal, which was to escape this realm. That would be something for her Lord to decide, or so she thought. For now she realized that showing was better than not showing, as people were always often too suspicious of her and her intentions under hooded robes, but those were a thing of the past and in the light of her recent attuning she found a way to conjure clothes. Clothes she now wore proudly, they gave her a hint of adventurous to her way, and the bright colors she had chosen made her stick out more.

Despite everything, she did what she had intended to do in Morrim so she headed for Soto, more specifically to Madrid. The travel from the swamps had been long and marked with many events of no particular interest, some of them probably related to her new outcome in existence. Bandit attacks, lots of hitch hiking carriages or wagons and the advances of some men, all of these were a part of the travel and force was used where it had been required. There were no fatalities this time around, something she was both glad and proud of. The last thing she wanted was to feel more guilt as she had still to come to terms with her mind on that, despite the reality of what happened. Presently she found herself walking, holding her magic tome under her arm, looking particularly expressionless as nothing in specific required her to look otherwise. It was then she sensed a magical outburst of sorts, followed by a great roar, an explosion. That was sure to peek anyone’s interest and some people in the street ran to take cover, others lingered to watch the smoke that formed in the sky, a few groups crowded and whispered. Pheonitia decided that investigating what happened it was worth her time and started to head to the location.

After some walking she saw the house in a distance or what was left of it, the wind came and almost blew her hat away, she had to grab hold of it for a moment. She also saw a woman there, contemplating the destruction. Is she guilty party perhaps? Unlikely, I believe that even the dumbest of criminals would not stand and contemplate their misdoings in broad daylight. Slowly she made her way to the woman, letting go of her hat as the wind seemed to calm down. As she reached the woman’s side she looked at her and emitted a chirp, nodding before Pheonitia’s wide open red eyes became fixated on the ruins of the house. The chirp was a test, she would see if it was acceptable, maybe it would be after all the peculiarities she had come across since she landed in this world.

But Oh, if I could save the earth -- just one space in time/ I thought that wisdom would be mine: love, and purity...

((OOC: omg I'm so sorry this took so long!))

The world around her was fuzzy, a blur, as though she had just woken up after an entire night spent lounging in the smokes of opium. Except, she was on her feet, and her head throbbed almost agonizingly.

Lorialette stumbled, putting a hand out on instinct to steady herself, and it landed on a table-type surface and knocked something (or wears it multiple things..?) on the floor with a deafening crash ! Something tugged her back into the fog momentarily then left her to recover from the sudden nausea that ensued.

There were voices, but whose, she didn't know. After a few moments her head began to clear ( well, as clear as her permanently-fried mind could ever be said to be) and with it her sight. There was a woman before her, impressive of confidence, and a... a humanoid aflame with the bearing and noble light of the Phoenix. A spirit.

    Or a hallucination.

Lorialette drew her arms about herself in anxiety. She had been in the Palace with Kupselion but a moment ago, but now she was..... she didn't know where she was a, and there was smoke, which frightened her. Tears welled in her widening eyes and she looked to the woman and creature before her, on the precarious edge of madness from fear. The last time this had happened she had gone someplace Awful, and she couldn't come back until it happened again days later. Or was it years...? Did she die and live again There..?

    Oh, where was Kupselion ?!

"Where am I?! Please, don't hurt me..!" Her voice wobbling with panic. Nothereagainohplease gods please not here...!

The chirp besides her snapped her attention away from the smoldering wreckage that was once her home and to what was besides her. Dressed in red and with feature not unlike what she had expected to see. Her mouth hung open and loose to reply but no words came out. She pressed her lips together and swallowed and this time she was able to speak. Her voice was composed but laced with distress as though she’d just broken her ankle. “Yes?” A quick and deep breath followed. A panicked voice stole Rhia’s attention from Pheonitia. Had someone been struck by the debris and been knocked senseless? It took not even a second to find the body that was just ahead of them. How had she not seen her before?

A ginger haired woman stood, apparently unharmed at a glance, shaking and crying. Her home was destroyed, probably, and there was nothing she could do about it until some of this smoke settled and the guard arrived on the scene. She steadied Lori with a gentle grasp of both her shoulders and spoke calmly and reassuringly.

“My name is Rhia Terenas. A Sotoan councilor.” She spoke slowly as though to help her register just who she was. Hopefully she at least knew which country she was in or who Rhia was. For a moment it donned on her that if this was an elaborate assassination ploy she’d had played right into it. She half expected some cruel sentence followed by the slipping of a dagger between her ribs. “I’m not going to hurt you. Neither is the woman besides me. And the guard isn’t going to hurt you either when they show. You’re in Madrid and outside my home.”

    - Yes? - The other asked Pheonitia, guess it was about time to put her writing to good use, but there was a twisting sensation in the fabric of reality that caught her attention and halted her motion, A woman? Pheonitia was surprised to see Lorialette as probably Riha was. There was much wrong with her, maybe not physically but she was emotional shaken, that was visible to the naked eye, she did not need to have the ability to pry into peoples minds to know this.

Pheonitia gazed back at the wreckage of a house once more and looked back at the woman, Could these two phenomena be related? The chance exists, so it is not to be discarded lightly. It was the first thing that came into mind, the other was obviously to bring peace of mind to Lorialette, she did not know how the woman had gotten there, but from the looks of it, the woman did not know either. She tried to approach as carefully as possible, treading behind the actions of Rhia. A Sotoan councilor? Maybe she is here to investigate as well, on official duty of course. It was her thought and seeing as the councilor had the situation under control she turned back at the smoking house.

What could have caused this? Maybe some sort of sabotage, or maybe something already inside. Is it possible that someone had been inside? Pheonitia was unsure of what was going on, and her grasp of the magics used was limited, she could sense the magic but she was unable to figure it out completly, so she had to rely on what she knew so far, on what her other senses could tell her. To do that she opened her tome and started to go through the many pages, something in there might give her a clue, something she had come across in her past. It was a possibility, yet another, in a sea on uncertainty.

For a few more moments she panicked -- she had thought she was inside a house, but she was outside now, and while she hadn't been entirely sure of her location before she was even less so now., but there was a grounding feeling about the way this stranger, this Rhia, had taken her shoulders and her panic settled considerably, though she barely managed to piece together what was going on.

"Madrid...? Your house...?" Lori turned and looked over her shoulder, and a shaky hand went to her mouth in shock. "Oh my goodness... Did I..? Oh....your house...!" Her eyes drifted to the fire spirit. She didn't seem mischievous at all, but all the same... "What... Happened..? Did someone do this..?"

(( Because I suck and I didn't see the response.))

Smoke still poured from the shattered windows as she looked over to it. Rhia starred at Lorialette. Relief passed over Rhia when confusion was still the prominent emotion in her person and nothing more sinister than that. She sighed and directed her attention to the damage
    .
“I imagine that someone did do this and that it wasn’t some action caused by me because I didn’t tighten a jar tight enough. I pray that whoever did this was caught up in the blast. Whoever broke into my back room had best be dead. They’ll wish they were if I find them.” Rhia didn’t consider the possibility that she had caused this and if she had there was no way to prove it. She didn’t smell anything like assorted alchemical concoctions or ingredients and didn’t look remotely injured.

“Breath deeply. Get on your feet. We’ll see if we can figure this out. Once this is settled perhaps we could discuss everything over tea?” She suggested, her gaze fell back to the bird-like woman.
“You haven’t spoken a word. What’s your name? Did you happen to see anything?”

Yes… uncertainty and this was time where one would need to gather facts and evidence. However from where she stood there was little her sharp eyes could pick up. She would have to get in, up and close. The smoke did not seem harmful, but she did pick up something that the councilor had said, something about the house being hers? If that was the case, maybe she could find out more information before doing anything drastic. That personal decision did not come a moment too soon since the woman was demanding knowing what was going on and why had she remained silent, also her name. Not necessarily in that order. Of course, being silent is always a subject that comes around.

She turned to the woman with a smile, nodding soon after and extending her index finger to Rhia so that she would give her moment. She did gesture to her throat with a light shrug of her shoulders, and soon she opened her tome, where a she could fetch a few loose sheets of parchment. Using the tome as support Pheonitia reached out to grab the quill stuck in her hat, and with delicate motions made her hand write.

    - I am Pheonitia, as in Fee-ooh-nii-shia, but if you prefer to call me Red I can work with that as well. As for my silence so far, I think it is obvious as you read this that I am unable to speak. At least I cannot articulate enough sounds to elaborate words, please excuse me for this inconvenience. As for your other question, I am afraid I did not see anything, all I did was sense the anomaly, this raised my curiosity. Is there anything you can tell about this incident, I seem to have overheard this is your house? Maybe you are aware of the origin of this explosive reaction. Could this be miss use or foul play? Sorry if I seem inquisitive, thus is my nature, curious by design, but I assure you that I have no ulterior motive other than finding the resolution for this mystery. If you think it relevant I am confident that I can go inside and look for clues, unless there is something that can contradict my nature, but I suppose there is a simple way to find that out. Do not be alarmed.

Showing the note to the woman, Pheonitia gave enough time for her to read, but time was of the essence, with each passing minute the less there would be to find inside the house. She dispelled her tome and turned back to the house, slowly she unsheathed her sword, this was sure to raise eyebrows but she did write in the note for Rhia not to me alarmed, Lorialette however did not read the note so she might be scared by Pheonitia’s actions.

She took a few steps forward and pulled her arm back, so that she could hurl the sword at the house. That was exactly what she did, and the arcane fire sword span about in the air before getting stuck in on the wall. Pheonitia gazed carefully to see if something in the air reacted to the nature of the sword, that was very much alike her own nature. Nothing. I see no changes in the sword's composition, the magical signature remains the same. Unless the councilor tells me otherwise, it is safe to assume I can go inside the house and remain unharmed. IF the councilor allows me to that is, after all it is her house. A wave of her hand made the sword dispel, best not leave it around hanging since it would start a fire if she let it be, another that is. She casted her sword and sheeted back where it was previous to her actions, summoning her tome once more she picked on the same parchment she used to write her conclusions.

    - I have little doubt now that my nature is able to survive inside that smoke filled house, you see, I am not what I appear. I rather have this kept a secret if possible, who knows what goes inside the minds of wicked men. Now, every bit of information is valuable for me to determine how certain my theory is, also if this is truly your house I cannot enter unless you allow me to. It would be rude otherwise. May I also ask about that woman that appeared, have you any insight on what the story is? One mystery is enough work as it is, two is even more troublesome. But... could the two mysteries be one?

Once more she passed her questions, theories and concerns to Riha, for some reason she could trust this woman, but she was still quite suspicious about the other. Maybe it was unfair for her to be like that, mostly because she was often on the receiving end of mistrust, but until she had proof that the two incidents were unrelated she was simply being cautious. Nothing wrong with being cautions in the face of explosions, last thing I want is for another explosion to go off while I am inside. So if she could be kept that woman in check while I am there, it would certainly give me some peace of mind.

But Oh, if I could save the earth -- just one space in time/ I thought that wisdom would be mine: love, and purity...

Lorialette did regain her footing (and her regular clear vision, thank the Muses) and merely teetered there watching not the fire, but the women captured by it. While Rhia's outburst had seemed explosive and alarming to the bard, the ensuing silence, forcing patience and cooperation, was by contrast quite soothing. It was by this token that she had shuffled closer behind Rhia to read the other's note. Pheonitia?

The wisp of a woman watched as Pheonitia arced her blade through the air, and couldn't help but brighten a little in delighted fascination. A real Fire Spirit..! "I knew they were real..!" She squeaked a little by Rhia's shoulder.

Thereafter, at the presentation of another note (and such artistic script), she swallowed and composed herself, folding her hands neatly. Best to make a good impression on so potentially volatile a spirit. "I'm Lorialette. Um... I'm not sure what happened. Sometimes I go places without knowing it. And before I could see again I felt like I might have, um, broken something."

With that she cringed a little. "You guys are spooky."

The situation seemed to be growing more and more elaborate by the minute. She waited expectantly and soon enough got her answers. If she was a mute it cleared up why she wasn’t exactly being vocal. The councilor read as quick as she could and nodded when she was done.

“A pleasure to meet you Pheoniti-“ Rhia didn’t finish her sentence.

The red woman seemed to be testing the waters by summoning a sword of fire and then launching it towards her home. Rhia froze in place and watched with eyes wide and full of terror. Depending on what broke within her home, what was left of the house could easily have gone up in flames in a fashion as dramatic as her reaction. As it stuck in the side of her home she was relieved to see that her home only had a slightly lower chance of catching fire. The sword dispelled as she analyzed the situation, her gaze turned back to Pheonitia flustered and red in the face. Quickly she recomposed herself. A continuation of her words came and once again she read them.

“By all means, if you feel you can enter the house safely then please do so. The smoke is going to keep most out. Something must have happened with my alchemical ingredients. I’m just thankful that nothing broke that set the house a flame because of your sword. When you get inside, try not to touch any vials or sealed containers beyond the heavy door. You should know it when you see it, assuming it’s still there.” Lorialette chimed in after.

“Spooky? I think it would be more appropriate to say mad.” Rhia’s mouth opened and the ends up turned. She let out a brief exasperated sigh and then rolled her eyes. “Nothing more to do here but wait and see what’s inside. Do be careful Pheonitia.”
