SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

    Alyce

Alyce stood in the middle of a restless crowd. She had been here before, and she would probably be here again. She was a child, about five or six years old. Her horns hadn’t grown in yet and her skin was free of the markings she had placed there. She was wearing a peasant’s disguise and her father stood next to her, watching her as much as the crowd. She was in a small village nowhere near anything as far as she could tell. The Astrologers Monolith had moved there over night, though it was far enough away not to draw suspicion. Somewhere in the back of her mind she knew this was a dream but that wouldn’t help, this was her subconscious replaying a memory, she couldn’t move now because she hadn’t then. She was watching, she was excited, her father hadn’t told her what she was waiting for but he was very excited to show her so she was very happy to see it. It began with a drum beat, and a man speaking. Alyce could recite what he had said by heart.
“These men have been found guilty of the crime of witchcraft. The sentence for this crime is hanging, by the neck, until dead.”
She watched as the three men stepped up to the gallows and had the nooses placed around their necks. None of them seemed angry or sad or scared even, that was part of why this had stuck with her when all her other memories of this early life had faded. She remembered watching them drop, and her father saying something she had forgotten. She was scared. He never did explain why he wanted her to see that, but she had always feared hanging above all else after words. Why hadn’t the men seemed scared?

The dream didn’t end there, now she sat in a cell in rags. This wasn’t a memory, she had never been here before. She was her normal age again, but her clothes had been taken and her tentacles cut off and…burned? She wasn’t sure but it scared her. He body was covered, or mostly covered at least by dirty rags. They might have been actual clothes once but she didn’t think they qualified as such anymore. A guard came and retrieved her from her cell shortly thereafter. She was led out into a hall and from there out into the light. For a moment she was blinded as her eyes adjusted to the sudden change in light. She was standing on a platform slightly raised above a crowd of peasants. They seemed familiar but she wasn’t sure how. Then she realized what the platform really was, it was a gallows.
“Oh no,” her voice came out in a whisper.
She was lead forward and though she tried to fight her body moved forward as if accepting its fate. The rope was fitted around her neck and she was prodded forward one more time.
A man began to speak, “This woman has been found guilty of the crime of witchcraft. The sentence for this crime is hanging by the neck until dead.”
“NOOOOO!” She screamed as the planks beneath her feet fell from under her.

Alyce snapped up in bed screaming. It took her a moment to gain her bearings. She wondered for a moment why she wasn't in the Monolith, but then she remembered. She hadn't wanted to leave the city to find somewhere far enough away that a giant tower appearing over night wouldn't raise suspicions. She had chosen to stay at an inn, which a few hands of cards had paid for. She still sat up in bed, shivering in her own sweat. She was cold despite the heat but she didn't want to put her clothes on just yet, so she wrapped herself in her tentacles to form a sort of nightgown. It was short but she didn't mind showing off a bit of leg, especially sense she didn't suspect many people would be up this time of night. She was on the verge of tears but wouldn't shed any, crying wouldn't help anyone and her tears wouldn't chase the dreams away.

Down in the bar she sat in the dark and looked down into a mug. Apparently the tavern part of the inn was open all night, though now the candles had burned down and most of the room was dark. She was the only person in the room other than the bartender, who was staring at her horns and practically drooling over the rest of her. She was still shaking and hadn't quite been able to shake the after effects of the dream she had just had. She sighed as the door opened and a small bell chimed as if in excitement over the event.

Unter friedlichen Umständen fällt der kriegerische Mensch über sich selber her.

There was but one place in Reine that stayed open late into the night, and that was where Aniketos intended to go. Of course, it was a matter of getting there first, which could take a while given the way his feet seemed intent on wandering. He weaved in one direction, then another, his eyes unfocused and his breathed accented by booze and the occasional whispered curse.
He'd been at it all night, drinking at one place, then the next, even getting into a fight somewhere. He had won, emerging unscathed, but it meant getting kicked out of that particular establishment. Then he'd gotten kicked out of a few as they began to close, which left him with one more option. It wasn't enough to be this drunk. He could still think well enough, which meant he could still remember, which was what he was trying so desperately to avoid these days. This was the cause for his cursing, for he could remember her in that dream, the way she had felt like a reality in his arms. Something about it had been real, he knew that and the fact that Shrista had not now come back to him after everything that had happened in that dream was the thing that haunted him tonight.
For a moment, he turned his eyes up from his wayward feet and looked up the street. He was nearly there, though what entranced him more was the fog that settled upon the city. It was illuminated by the street lamps, turned golden and eerie. He took a moment to appreciate this rare sight, which almost no one else in the city was awake to witness. He stopped walking and swayed in place, breathing in the cool night air. A fragile smile appeared on his face. In this state, witnessing this felt like communing with a god.
Which was all well and good, but there was booze to be attending to. On he went, and soon he entered the tavern. Through pure strength of will, he managed to walk through the desolate tavern and stand before the bar. He leaned there, swaying slightly from side to side, oblivious to anyone but the bartender. "Some gin, if you will."
The man raised his eyebrows, clearly doubting Aniketos' ability to keep on drinking. Interest in profit must have outweighed his doubt, however, and he quickly fetched the drink and slid it over to Aniketos, he slid his payment over.
Before even sitting down, he took a sip, breathed out and thought, Oh well, it'll do. Finally, he looked around him and saw that the tavern was practically desolate, but for the bartender, a woman and man who showed all too much interest in her. Deciding that the man looked gross, what with all that fawning, Aniketos sat next to the woman, opened his mouth to say something, but was immediately distracted by her clothing. It was...flesh? Alive flesh? He closed his mouth, stared at the flesh quizzically, and then stared at her face. A slow smirk grew on his lips. "Wow," he said, "You look troubled."

The man who staggered in was drunk, but that was alright. If he was drunk enough he probably wouldn't stare - she was used to it, but didn't need it right now. Alyce averted her eyes, keeping close attention on the man. It was better to monitor him than it was to sit in silence thinking about her nightmare. He sat next to her and opened his mouth, then he....stopped? Even out of the corner of her eye she could tell that his mouth was open and he was staring at some part of her, though which part and why she wasn't exactly sure of. She began to feel slightly self conscious and decided to shift a few of the curls of tentacle toward some of her more exciting features, leaving her stomach and back slightly more exposed for it. It wasn't as if anyone could see anything through it anyway, but just to be safe she moved the tentacles. When he actually spoke the half-demon looked at him. He was smirking, as if proud of his observation. Perhaps something else but she wasn't sure. Alyce leaned in so that her mouth was positioned right in front of his ear and put on her best low seductive whisper. "And you look drunk. With the obvious out of the way, why don't you tell me your name." She was tempted to flick her tongue out and brush it by his ear but she didn't want to bust out anything to big this early. It was probably better to stick to what she considered light flirting at least until she got to know him a bit better. She pushed back out and tried to appear innocent again. "I'm Alyce, if you're interested." The half-demon wasn't sure he would be, but open sexuality wasn't an excuse to avoid simple pleasantries, and besides, she wasn't likely to have relations with a human right now anyway, if at all. The witch tried to avoid it; it could end badly. Alyce was lucky to be human enough to not be impregnated by demons, but she wasn't so sure about humans. She would laugh out loud if that were the case. What great irony that her parents had created someone infertile, when their sole purpose in life had been to create the ultimate being, or someone who could create the ultimate being. It would save her a lot of worry and pure panic, but she found it unlikely that her parents hadn't thought of a sure way to prevent such a thing from happening. She had to focus on the man before her though, especially if she wanted someone to go to bed with her, even if only to sleep. She didn't particularly want to go to bed alone. As far as bedfellows went he was a nice sort. Demons didn't find gender as important as humans. When almost all of them could shape shift, asking a demon about its gender was like asking about its mood - in fact, they were often closely related. She had been with demons both male and female, and those acting as both male and female. That is to explain that demons have no sexual preference, and this man's androgynous beauty was pleasing to Alyce's eye. She tended to see men of hard lines and women of soft ones, it was nice to see a mixing of the two, and in her human form the act itself wouldn't have to be complicated, though drunkenness might make it less than pleasing. She could get around that but it would take a trip to the Monolith and a bit of work.

Aniketos balked a little as her fleshdress shifted to better conceal what one might call the fine china. Not that he was trying to have a gander at that, it was the dress itself that disturbed him because it meant he wasn't sure what she was. But then again, he thought, maybe he was wrong to be so confused. Maybe this was a normal thing somewhere and he had just been spending his time in the wrong parts of the world.

Her reaction to his comment was also not what he expected it to be. She leaned in close and whispered into his ear with such obvious sexual intention that it surprised him. Normally he had to at least try to get a woman interested, but here he was not even vaguely trying, not even having the intent to get laid and she was already purring words into his ear. Not that he was going to complain, even if she was a fleshdress...it was just another surprising thing.

Nonetheless, he did not miss a beat. He pulled away from her slowly, a smile snaking across his bright lips. "What powers of perception you have, " he said with playful sarcasm, "I'm Aniketos Hesperés, and it is a pleasure to meet you, Alyce. Though I do have one question, and it is perhaps a bit forward but...what are you?"

What had she been thinking? Oh yes, the little blue pill with the V on it that she kept around for men who didn't quite live up to expectations. She didn't keep any of these particular kind on her, she never needed them, even when she was playing the male role. She had some back at the Monolith but she couldn't exactly set that up in town square could she? She'd have to at least get out of sight of the city. She cleared her head, he had been saying something hadn't he? What was it? A sarcastic comment and a question.
"What am I? I'm a great deal of things. It seems like a pretty impossible question. What with the fact that sentient life is so complex and all."
She was rambling, partly for fear of scaring the man away and partly because the more of her mind spent on this the less spent remembering the dream.
"I'm a woman, a witch, and a half breed. My mother was a demon and my father was a human. I was born to destroy the world. In fact the only reason you or anyone else is alive right now is because I bound my soul to a demon called Belenus in exchange for my sanity and the worlds safety. Now I'm a Shade Warden. I kill people who are stupid enough to try and summon demons that would threaten the world. Does that answer your question?"
If it didn't than he was a lot more sober than she gave him credit for, because now even the bartender was scared and he had been drooling over her since she walked into his place of business. She waited for a reaction from him and thought she might not need the little blue pill after all, because if this didn't scare him off then he was probably the bravest man she knew. She might even let him see her demon form. She smiled at the idea.

Unter friedlichen Umständen fällt der kriegerische Mensch über sich selber her.

Aniketos swayed in response to her first statement, not all too sure what she was saying because the words came to him through a wall of confusion and mental ineptitude. It was better once she shifted to using an actual narrative to describe her identity: he could follow that well, though he most certainly would never remember the names after tonight.

He turned his hazy eyes upon her as she finished, his eyebrow raised in an expression that could be taken to be skepticism or admiration. "Impressive. Now I know to not try to summon demons." He paused for a moment, his eyes shifting to stare blearily at his hand and the glass of gin he held. If this woman was supposed to stop the arrival of demons in this world, then how could one explain Kaahn? But then again, he figured that there was a lot more to this system than he could even comprehend, especially in this state If only, however. If only this woman could smite the bastard so Aniketos would never have to think about him again.

Aware that this introspectiveness wasn't conducive to a night of fun, he looked once again at Alyce. When he was this wasted, he could grab his emotions and take the ones he pleased and throw the rest away. At least, he could do so for a time. Recently he'd spent a fair amount of time crying uncontrollably for some reason, only to half-forget about it the next morning. Nonetheless, he smiled for her, his features settling into that muscle-memorised seductive gaze. It was amazing how easily this all came back to him- the graceful bend of his neck offset by the tilt of his shoulders, the aura of attraction that he could so well emanate, or emulate. He'd lost some things, but not this.

"Why so sad in the middle of the night then, Alyce? Haunted memories, old fears, sleeplessness? Does no one keep you company at night, get you so tired that you can't remember any of it any more?"

Alyce could sense the mans emotional distress, she probably could have even without her mother's powers. She easily opened a link to feed through and began filtering his distress and anguish into a fold in her gown. She would place it in a wooden chest in her room later. There was quite a bit to be sucked in, memories of misery, the current miseries, and the slight lust he was trying very hard to sate.
So many creatures were driven by their loins, which could be a very bad thing. Alyce had to admit that she was one of those creatures herself. Even in his drunken state that man's seduction was impressive, and Alyce had decided that she wanted him. She decided to play the role of the seduced, rather than the seductress. It was easy enough the allow him to do the seducing, she was playing that role often enough.
She was impressed that he wasn't afraid, but it didn't seem to her that his lack of fear was due to inebriation, he just seemed to genuinely not be afraid.
"Well, for you I might have to make an exception, as long as you promised not to do it again," she smiled sweetly.
She had managed to sound innocent while still implying something devious.
Though it was easy not to expend effort on seducing him she found it hard not to. Years of drawing men and women into bed took their tole she supposed. There was pride in the luring and in the act, like bringing down an animal, or conquering a foreign land. She didn't want him to simply seduce her, she wanted to seduce him too.
"You are quite good at guessing. All three, though I think I've found someone to keep me company now."

"You found company? Oh, wow?" He peered around the near-deserted room in mock confusion, he eyes wide and his open lips still quirked by a smile. "Who is it?" His eyes landed on the grumpy barman and he put his hand to his mouth. "Oh, it's him? Lucky you!"

The barman looked up with expression that stated clearly that he was too tired to deal with this bullshit. Aniketos grinned right back with an expression that showed that he didn't care. "He doesn't seem too hot on you, Alyce. Ah well, I guess I could help you with that. I'm not as pretty as he is, but you know...compromises." He winked and downed his shot of gin, frowned at it and put the glass down.

"You know, I've got a few of those things too. The insomnia sorts of things, I mean. Why else would I be awake at this hour? I know a few ways to chase those demons away." He walked two fingers along the wood of the bar and then drew them back up to his palm. "Perhaps we can work on that together, is that what you what you were thinking? Who knows, maybe you have some tricks I have yet to learn."

Alyce giggled at the joke, and even more at the barman's reaction.
"Aw, you're not interested?" She asked the barman, "Well, I think you'll be sorry when you hear what goes on upstairs, but if you're sure."
    She shrugged at him

Alyce looked at him with interest, "I'm sure I have some tricks you don't know, but I could teach them to you if you follow me."
She lightly pulled him out of his chair and up the stairs to her room. Once inside she closed the door and quickly lit a lantern. In the half-light she could see the bed, covered in white sheets which were flung haphazardly about the room. She could also see a chair and a dresser hidden away in the far corner of the room.
She closed and locked the door behind them and looked at him seductively. Slowly her tentacles began to unravel, exposing her legs, her stomach, her cleavage, but leaving the bar minimum to cover herself.
"What do you think?" She asked.
This was the first human to come back to her room in hundreds of years, she felt a sort of excitement that she hadn't felt in bed for a long time. There weren't many things left that she could consider new, but humanity was one of them. She waited with bated breath for his reply.

Aniketos laughed out loud at Alyce's comment and, as she pulled him out of the room, he added, "Just think about what you're missing out on! I mean look at her, she's got a dress made outta herself!...or summat."

The barman's glare passed out of his sight, but he still giggled at it, completely disregarding all the people who were probably trying to sleep in the other rooms. Without the silent barman gone, it was just the two of them. Soon they were closed into the room, which bore signs of the demon's insomnia, for the sheets were twisted and thrown about. But it didn't matter, because Alyce had soon fallen on top of them, her body open and golden in the firelight.

He swayed on the spot from drink, feeling once again that strange swell of emotion in his chest, the one that often came these days when he drunkenly faced the sensuality of someone particularly beautiful. It had happened before with Vitamy, during that wild and carefree night, and now it happened again. How could he ever explain to anyone? As far as the world would know (including Shrista, he thought), he was just a slut, selfishly following his dick wherever it led him. No one would get it because he didn't have the words to explain that when he stood there, his honeyed eyes taking her in, he felt a small tide of her emotion flow forth to wash about him. She was excited but slightly worried, still covering herself a little with her tentacles and yet betraying some vulnerability.

This made a part of him crumble away, but in a pleasant way, like a honeycomb in warm hands. He smiled, sidling towards the bed as he pulled his shirt over his head, revealing his lean body with pale flesh turned yellow in the light. "I think a lot of things, but I don't have words for them. I can show you though." He slipped into place beside her, lying on his side. He traced the circumference of the strange circular tattoo on her stomach with a single fingertip, entrancing himself with the motion for a moment before he looked away to turn his face up to hers. He stretched his neck out so as to kiss her.

A few minutes ago, in the bar, he thought that they would be thrusting themselves at each other, that the would simply fuck, but something had changed. Aniketos met her lips softly, his finger trailing over her smooth skin, up to the tentacles that covered her chest. He stopped kissing her to touch them with interest, intrigued by them. Then that single finger slipped just under the strip of flesh, playfully asking permission, and he turned his eyes to hers. He dimly wondered if they had changed colour since they had met, but his mind was too woozy with drink and lust to remember.

"Well, I can tell you one thing I think," he said with drunken warmness, "I feel fortunate that I decided to stroll on into this tavern tonight. Perhaps wakefulness and wandering is not always so bad, hm?"

Alyce absorbed the irritation of those who were woken by Aniketos’ outburst in the hall. She had always found emotion from those almost asleep was more raw, and thus easier to filter. It probably had to do with how little they were being controlled by the person’s consciousness.

Lying there on the bed looking up at him she could feel a strong burst of emotion. Her eyes flashed silver in surprise. She realized that they hadn't changed color since she’d been awake. The residual fear of her dream had muddled her emotions. She had felt the fear up until this moment. Here, now, she couldn't care less about a bad dream, no matter how real. Aniketos’ emotion wasn't directed at her, but it seemed to be because of her in a way. She wasn't sure what it meant, but she felt, tinged in it, a sort of regret.
Alyce had a moment to admire the man as he pulled his shirt off before he fell into bed beside her. He was pale flesh stretched over lean muscle, not quite feminine but not fully masculine either. She smiled, her eyes tinted yellow and pink. She felt his fingers trace her stomach, she wanted, for a moment, to push his hand away, but she let herself go in the sensual motion of it. The circle was heavily magical, demons shied from it like snow from heat. She had just embraced the idea that it was something not to be touched or admired. It was a sort of flaw, but not to Aniketos. That gesture, though he didn’t know it, was to her all the seduction in the world.
Then they were kissing and her eyes were pink in full. They were slow soft kisses. They were exploring each other’s passion. One of Aniketos fingers brushed her wraps for a moment before sliding under slowly, testing the water. She was already fully excited, and her few layers of resistance melted away. Her tentacles began to caress him, running through his hair, down his arms, across his stomach, brushing him.
“No,” she said between breaths, “Wanderings lead to the best adventures.”
She pulled him into herself with her hands, curling her legs around his and making a sort of knot with their bodies.

The demon's emotions flavoured the air, turning it sweet. Aniketos hadn't even realise how dark of a pall her nightmared thoughts had cast around her until that pall was lifted. Now the light seemed even more radiant, her skin more golden, the shape of her belly-circle more entrancing. He believed he could even feel the reception of himself by her, the way their thoughts commingled in the air between them, swirling like a potion. They breathed that brew of thoughts as they kissed, their passion growing deeper and deeper.

At the prompting of his questing fingers, her tentacles fell away, revealing what little she had covered. Aniketos smiled, rolling away for a moment to pull of his pants, then slithering closer still, saying, "Yes, the best ones."

Alyce pulled him to her, wrapping him up so they were like knotted threads. With his lips on her neck, he joined with her. There was a small smile on his lips the whole time and he made a point of pulling away her and there to witness her face aglow in the light. Finally, he rolled apart from her, exhausted. The alcohol swayed him to sleep as if he were a cradle on the ocean, a cradle that held Alyce.

Alyce felt amazed. She wasn't used to feeling such strong positive emotion during the act, or after it for that matter. Demons had a tenancy to use it as just another way to gain dominion over one another, she always had be on her guard, but with him it was not that way. When they joined it was filled with passion. Not a fight for control, but a release of it. It was the best feeling she had ever had.

Alyce awoke the next morning to find that in her sleep she had tangled them both together in her tentacles, so that they were in a sort of cocoon together under the sheets. It felt good to wake up and find the other person still there, not that he could move if he tried at this point. She vaguely remembered tangling them in the night. She always found that what one does when almost asleep was the best indication of what they were feeling. People didn't try to hide themselves when they slept. She slowly uncoiled herself from the other, which was harder than she would have thought. Somehow she had slipped tentacles underneath him, but now they were pinned there. She had no idea how she had done it, but she was impressed with herself. Once free she stretched, even her tentacles pushing their full distance, until they hit the wall that is. She rolled out of bed and curled them around her, though they still rolled to try and work out the kinks.
She walked down the stairs slowly, and once at the bottom took in her surroundings. Everything was much the same, other than the man behind the bar. Of course he couldn't be there twenty four hours a day, so he had to switch some time. Alyce ordered two of whatever was fresh, and with the tray in her hands she returned to her room.

Aniketos slept away on that sea, which was at some times calm and some times troubled. Shrista was there, her dark hands slipping under the waves, aching to be grasped. Kaahn was there as well, his own hands reaching out of the waves like monsters, rocking him into bleary wakefulness time and time again. Each time he woke, he found that Alyce's tentacles were wrapped around him just a little bit more. He invited their warm grasp, turned his cramped body toward her and watched the sun rise in fractured moments of wakefulness.

The last time he woke, it was because Alyce closed the door. Somehow she'd extricated herself from him and had gotten across the room before he woke up. He sat up slowly, nursing his head, which felt as if it were full of hot rocks. He smacked his dry mouth, trying to wet it with syrupy saliva, and felt his world lurch every time he inhaled a whiff of alcohol. Somewhere, in between these various discomforts, he wondered if Alyce had left, but found himself to be too sore to investigate.

He didn't spend long wondering because soon she was back with a tray of still-warm bread and a pitcher of water. He smiled at her with utmost gratitude, croaking a thank you, and reached out for the pitcher and a cup. He poured himself some water, downed the cup while he still held the pitcher, and poured another. "We don't need a hell or underworld to punish our sins," he said when he finished drinking the second cup. He winced at the pain of his own words, but went on: "That's what hangovers are for."

    Alyce

Alyce chuckled. She had been to a place somewhat like what religious people called Hell, it hadn’t been a pleasant trip. She set the tray down on the side of the bed and walked over to where she had dumped her stuff. It took a moment of digging to find the small pill case that was inside. She produced a purple pill from within and handed it too Aniketos.
“I use those for headaches and things, it should help for a while.”
She smiled at him, making the connection that if hangovers were punishments for ones sins than she had just absolved him of his by curing his pain. She tore off a small chunk of bread and began eating slowly. She hadn’t had enough to drink to have a hangover herself, but she did have a terrible feeling in her mouth.
    “So what now?” She asked.

Aniketos' hands tore at the bread but his eyes followed Alyce's movements as she produced a small, rattling case and produced a tiny, purple object. He raised an eyebrow at it. "It's medicine? I eat it, correct?"

He was used to hangover cures being either a huge cup of hot herbal tea that never cooled to a drinkable temperature or else a paté raw eels and sheep's lungs. However, if a physician could prescribe you dead animals as a cure, then a small object seemed just about as likely to fix the problem. Lifting a hand, he received the purple object and swallowed it whole. The effects were not immediate, so he did his best to ignore the headache and finished tearing at the bread.

Chewing slowly, he contemplated Alyce's question. His mood dropped at the thought of doing something next. He had to go on with his life and he could not bear the thought. The whole point of getting as drunk as he did was to forget that he had to do anything ever again, but the forgetting seemed to pass away so quickly and it never made the problem itself go away. Sullenly, he recalled the work he was supposed to do; the hours at his desk writing up missives and recommendations, signing declarations and contracts. Not even a drink or two at his side could make the work bearable, he was sure of it.

Aniketos swallowed and sighed, vaguely aware of the fact that his head no longer pulsed with pain when he moved his throat. "Well, I imagine you have a life to be getting on with. I have one, apparently, though it is hardly an enjoyable one." He was also aware of the fact that he was sharing a hint of the despair he tried to keep hidden away from most, but the burden of continuing as he had (or had refused to, really), was too much to bear alone. He put another piece of bread to his mouth and chewed, his eyes averted to the mussed blankets on the bed.

    Alyce

“It would probably be best if you swallowed…yeah, do that,” she said as he swallowed it before she could even finish her instructions. Pills weren’t common, doctor were stuck in strange medicines that tended more toward wives tales than cures. Animal organs didn’t tend to do anything as far as she could tell besides make one vomit on the way down, calling back up anything that might have actually helped the afflicted. Though most of her pills were temporary aids, hangovers were temporary problems, so she suspected that his hangover would cure itself before her pill wore off.
Alyce watched him sadly, he was clearly unhappy, and she found that she wanted to help, though she wasn’t sure how. She soon got an idea however. She created a beacon for him. She slid the pendant around his neck and with light fingers centered it on his chest. The beacons were supposed to be for potential allies or people with a higher chance of being targeted by daemons, but she figured she could make an acception.
“With that you can always call for me if you need anything. I can do more with magic than cure a headache, and there’s always more to do in the bedroom.”
She wasn’t sure how much of the night before he would remember, but she hoped he would remember that. Even drunk he had been good in bed, and she wanted to help him heal as much as she could.

Unter friedlichen Umständen fällt der kriegerische Mensch über sich selber her.

Alyce made a movement he didn't quite catch, and then she was holding out something for him. He made a movement to reach out for it, but she lifted the necklace over his head, so he bowed into it, his eyes closing for half a second. She centred the something on his chest, her fingers light, and he folded his chin in to look at it. It was a pendant, simple in appearance, though apparently somehow magical.

It took him a moment for him to understand what it was actually for. He could summon her; what an odd thought. In one moment, he'd suddenly gotten more of a rein on her than he ever had on Shrista, who he could not summon away from her unknown misadventures. He wasn't sure how he felt about this and the implicit relationship it set up between them. But he could always just not use it, right? It seemed like Alyce would hardly be angry if he didn't.

"What do I do to call on you?" he asked, and then after a moment's thought, "And how do you get there?"

As he talked, he realised that his head had cleared considerably. There was a bit of residual pain in his limbs, but he could think again and he no longer felt like his brain had swelled up to fill his skull. He wondered if he could get a stock of those pills from her, given how often he woke up hungover these days. But then again, he could always just call on her and then she could give him the pills, and other things besides...if he thought it would be a good idea to do so on any other day. Something in him was already second-guessing the whole idea, even though he could currently come up with no rational reason against it.

    Alyce

Alyce opened her mouth and then closed it again. That was a very good question, she had been taught how to manifest the amulets and she had been summoned before, but she wasn’t exactly sure how the summoning itself worked. She opened herself and pushed her link with Belenus.
The demon turned toward her, or at least made his avatar appear to turn toward her own. They stood in the grey area that was a neutral zone between their two consciouses. It’s where they usually communicated. A bit further toward Belenus’ and she would go insane hearing all the thoughts of everyone drifting through his minds. A bit closer to her own and they would be distracted by every stray thought that happened to float to the forefront of her mind.
“Belenus, I had a question, how does one summon a Shade Warden using the amulets?”
He looked at her, all heads, all eyes, complete focus. When he did that she always shrunk. A specific person’s look can do that to anyone, Belenus’ looks could do that to everyone, all of his heads had a purpose, and when all their attention was directed at a single point… things tended to happen differently than they would if he hadn’t been so attentive.
He spoke with the head attached to his body, his main head, “It is a simple spell, one simply needs to say the Wardens name while desiring their presence. It’s quite simple, though the name must be said aloud. Why do you ask?”
Another head spoke up, “We all know why she asked, one of her many conquests has tugged at a heart string and now she wishes to aid him. Ignorance is unbecoming Belenus.”
“As is such bitterness and resentment Anger, suggest to him that he shouldn’t wear it in his sleep, as he might accidentally summon you to his bed.” another head sounded.
“Enough” Belenus said, “As I have promised Alyce’s personal affairs are not my business. You have your answer, and other matters require my attention.”

With that the link was severed and Alyce was left alone in her mind again. The entire interaction had taken only a second in the world’s time. She relayed Belenus’ information to him. Adding that she would feel his desire and be able to choose to act on it, she would not be forcefully dragged from whatever she had been doing. She could also sense the summonings urgency when she got the tingle at the back of her skull, so if he was in danger she could aid him.
They talked of many things while they ate, as it turned out Aniketos was a Councillor in Soto. She was a little concerned that she had gotten mixed up with any sort of political figure, but he didn’t seem the kind to be wrapped around anyone’s finger. After words they parted ways. Alyce, at least, thought she hadn’t seen the last of the man.
