SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

WHAT IS ELENLOND?

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

And then she was gone, her hips swinging as the knives jostled her thighs, passing by guards with her head held high, a haughty smile upon her lips.

I've been thinking about this for a little while now, but I've been sort of on the fence about it because it'd take a bit of getting used to.

It is now possible to have an expand/collapse Cbox (sort of like the twitter, but it would float at the bottom of the screen, be present on each page you visited, and would have to be expanded each time you refreshed or changed pages), which have pros and cons:

    Pros
    • Floating Cbox, which means you wouldn't have to scroll to the bottom of the forum to see them (or it, if we only did that for one and not both). And scrolling up and down is something that can be irritating, especially if you don't have multiple windows open, one dedicated mostly to sitting near the Cbox.
    • Expand/collapse means that if you're trying to focus on posts, the Cbox can be hidden so that it's not quite as distracting. It's also easier to open when you want to check in to see what's going on while posting.

There might be more, but those are the bigger ones.

    Cons
    • It is possible that it will slow the forum's loading time down, which is already really quite fickle (I think a lot of that is the twitter—which inevitably means considering changing how it's displayed/just linking it). I would actually have to test it to see.
    • People who like them at the bottom may find the change really weird and awkward for a while.
    • There will be Cbox buttons floating on the screen, either on the left or the right. They wouldn't be very big, but you'd notice them.
    • You'd have to expand it each time you wanted to view it.

I've also been thinking about turning the seasons box into one that has tabs instead, since that'd make it easier to view. But again, would require testing to see what it does to the forum's loading time, if it makes anything easier, etc. But yes!

Would anybody be interested in having floating Cbox(es) instead of what we currently have at the bottom of the forum? Because that's a rather large change as far as Elly's basics go, I don't want to just do it and then be swamped with PMs. Personally I wouldn't mind going that route, as it would definitely be a lot easier to follow/view if I didn't have to scroll to the bottom of the forum, and I wouldn't need several tabs open on Elly to post, watch the Cbox, and possibly run around looking for links and such. I know some people will vehemently resist this idea, but I thought I would put it forward. There is definitely enough space on either side for one (depending on how large your resolution is, but most seem to be above 1024x768 now), so that wouldn't be an issue. And it wouldn't/shouldn't overlap with the actual forum itself.

So yes! I am curious as to how people would feel. We can also trial it.

Edit: The location of them was poorly explained. The button to expand the Cbox would follow you up and down the page, no matter how far you scrolled. Its position is absolute, it just follows you up and down but would sit probably at the bottom of the screen itself, not the forum.

I could be nice. Hell! I know I'm nice, but ask yourself, 'What's the fun in that?'

Personally, I think the floating cbox sounds like a good idea :)

I agree, it does sound like a good idea. At the very least, like you said, we could always do a trial with it and then decide how we like it after that.

It is an interesting idea, but I'm here to say I'd rather it stay the way it is. I like fixed positions for things, especially the bottom with cboxes; never been a fan of floating stuff.
And as a sidenote I also like the seasons box as it is too. But I'm no good at accepting that stuff might change, especially when it comes to anything writing-related. Skins and the positions of all the tabs and forum boards and stuff is a big thing for me on rp sites, and if I like it, I most certainly don't want it to be altered.
But if you want to trial it, that's fine too. I might like it, I just like it as it is now.

Usually I hate floating buttons but I think it's a nice idea, especially when typing a post or something and having to flick between windows to see what's going on with everyone else. I'd certainly be willing to see it put to trial, to see how much it slows loading times etc. - I don't really have too much issue with this on the pc so long as my connection isn't exploding when the weather is heavy, tends to be external devices like phone and DS that misbehave -

    *Thumbs up*

good idea, saves having multiple tabs open, when one is replying and chatting.

Yeah, I can be like that too, Nera (I really am not a huge fan of change, but I'm getting better with it... slowly...). Which is a lot of the reason why I decided to throw out the suggestion, rather than just do it; they have been positioned there pretty much since we got them.

The seasons box is something we can also trial. I feel tabbing it would improve its readability. But that'd be after the Cboxes, not at the same time.

Thanks for your opinions, guys! I'll let this sit for a couple of days and I think we'll give it a go, see how it works for a couple of weeks and if people aren't a fan, we can go back to having them at the bottom of the forum; if they like them, we'll leave them.
