"I promise I'll keep it running as if you were still home." At the time, Lilly didn't realize what a big promise she was making. And though she was already well into the day, she couldn't wait until she had a chance to sit and relax. Her limbs ached, her face somewhat drenched not by the hot temperatures, but the hard work she was doing. It had been a long time since she had done this kind of laborous work, that getting back into it Lilly had to retrain her muscles, some that she didn't remember she had. Between shoveling out stalls and riding the land of weeds, Lilly had her work cut out for her. Weeks ago, Lilly had come across this lone farmhouse, every manner of weeds growing in the home's large field. She had stopped, offering to help and provide her services to him in exchange for somewhere to stay. Upon knocking on the door, the priestess discovered that not only was the owner of the home elderly, but he was also ill, and could definitely not care for the animals and the land the way he needed to. In but a few moments she was outside tending the animals, most of which were near starving. Just a few days later his family had come to take him to live with them, leaving her to tend the farm until he returned, or someone else returned in his stead. Lilly stood up from the field, lifting her arm and wiping her face with her forearm, not wanting to get any more dirt on it than already there was. She had been working through the field to clear as much excess plants and weeds she could before winter, to make sure that it would be suitable for growing again in the spring. Even with her abilities, dead plants she could not control. Manual labor was needed. Looking around the field she was pleased with her work. Already she had cleared up half of it, and would start again the next morning. Picking up her sack of dead plants, she threw it over her shoulder and walked back to the house, setting it down to be burned later. It was the only real way to get rid of weeds. Standing beside the water trough, she rinsed her hands, patting some of the water onto her face as she stood up and looked around. Part of her was rethinking this whole owning a farm business. Perhaps she would wait until she found help for it? But who knew if that would happen. With a sigh of relief at the finished work in the field, she leaned against the stables, resting her head against the wood as she glanced out across the land around her. There was so much flat grasslands, such a change from what she was used to. Already she was forming ideas of what she would do when she did own her own home. Standing back up, Lilly picked up the bucket from beside the trough, filling it and walking to the other side of the house, closest to the road. Here was a fenced enclosure, two cows in it, one with a calf probably just four months old. She opened the gate and stepped inside, topping off the trough in there with the water from her bucket. The calf stepped up behind her, nosing her elbow that held the bucket and thus causing some of the water to splash out. The elf laughed and turned her head around, setting the bucket on the ground as she ran her hand across the top of its head. "I could get used to this..." |

Trekking across the plains and over backroads, finally the former king thought he found what he was looking for: a farmhouse in the distance, looking to be in some disrepair. Hurrying him on, he shouted encouragements to Khanrad, who broke into a sprint for the dwelling on the horizon. Finally he came upon it, descending into the little valley where the farmhouse lay until he reached the farmhouse proper. After dismounting Khanrad and ensuring that there was no one around to see, the horse changed back into a phoenix and flew high into the air, left to its own devices. Finally after searching the farmland, the giant of a man found Lilly, his navy blue hair blowing in the breeze as he ran up to her. "Oh, you could?" he said, laughing, as the calf eagerly nudged the elf, receiving the attention it craved in return. He walked around the fence and hugged her, a smile beaming from his face. He looked a bit different than he had last time they had met. His hair and skin were much cleaner now, and his face had been shaven in parts, leaving a beard that was now carefully trimmed and not growing wild and unkempt. The worn-out casual clothes he had worn as king had been replaced with items of similar build, but of more nondescript colorings and characteristics, blacks and browns replacing the blaze reds he had been attempting to wear before. A dark brown duster was buttoned almost up to his neck to keep the winter out. Pulling away from Lilly, he gazed into her face, a smile across his own. "I heard that you had found a place to stay and wanted to see me again. And that the owners were away. That is good..." Had they been here, it would have been harder for him to visit. He could not be seen by so many people, and have them asking too many questions. But Lilly was too smart to subject him to that. "How do you like farm life thus far?" |

She hadn't heard him as he arrived at the farm. Perhaps it was mostly because she was so caught up in all the work to be done. After running her hand along the calf's nose, it nudged her for more, and Lilly answered with a scratch on the top of her head before she heard the words behind her. Still the calf tried to steal her attention away, but it was for naught. As soon as the tall man made his way through the gate and over to her, recognition lit up in her eyes. "Razarod!" She called out as the man's arms wrapped around her shoulder. Her own wrapped around his back as she returned the hug. Had she been different, the hug would have been strange to her. They had, after all, met only once, and in passing. Their time together then hadn't been long, though they had shared things about them they kept secret from others. They pulled away and Lilly finally got to take a look at the man in front of her. What she saw almost surprised her. He had cleaned up a bit, as she would have hoped he would have once he settled and found a place to live. His skin tone seemed to have changed almost a shade, and the elf just smiled as she realized what she had seen before was just mud-stained skin. The trimmed beard helped frame his face and was definitely a better option than the ragged and wild one from before. She saw his smile and couldn't help one of her own. Not that she wasn't smiling before; it was always good to see a friend. Especially if it would give her a reason to stop her chores for the day. "Well I wouldn't say that," she rebutted, a soft tint of pink spreading across her cheeks. "I mean, of course I wanted to see you again, to see how you fared." He had been here only a few moments and already Lilly was talking nonsense. "But yes, the owner is away. He'll probably be gone for at least a week longer, if he ever does. It may be another of the family that comes to reclaim the land in his stead." Lilly had thought of it over and over again. Perhaps the old farmer didn't get better, and instead his son came to take over the farmhouse. She would be forced to leave. It wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, but it would mean having to find another place to live until things could be arranged for a place of her own. Razarod's question made her smile again. "It's growing on me. I didn't realize how tough it would be with this kind of farm." Her hand motioned to the fields behind her, half of it cleared and still more of it with dead plants. "Live plants I can handle easier than most, but I'm afraid I'm stuck to the old fashioned way of dealing with dead plants. "But come! Let's head inside and get something to drink. I was just about to go in and start something for dinner. It's good you showed up, too. I caught a deer this morning just before starting my chores and I was afraid it would spoil before I had a chance to eat it all." She moved past him but locked her arm with his, pulling him with her as she moved to the gate. The calf had decided Lilly wasn't all that interesting anymore, and was now nosing the bucket she had left rather than following them. |

Razarod could not help but laugh a bit as she blushed, and began blushing himself a bit in turn. "You don't need to get defensive, I'm rather glad to see you as well, you know." His lips turned into a smirk as she went on. "I'm glad that you're getting used to it, it looks like you're doing a great job with the place. Amazing that you fixed it up this much by yourself already. Just a shame you're forced to use your hands on the plants like the rest of us." A wink accompanied that remark, as well as a chuckle. It was only the second time they had met, but he enjoyed her company immensely. He could be himself, forget the hardships, and enjoy a pleasant conversation. Suddenly she locked arms with him and began sweeping him off to the farmhouse, with promise of dinner and something to drink. "Oh, venison! I've always been rather partial to it... It has been a while since I've had any though." He pushed the gate open for her, smiling down at her as they passed through, making their way towards the house itself. "My meeting with the Councilor Sphynx went well enough. To be honest, she did not seem overly pleased to see me, but that's understandable enough... Last time we met, she got a chunk of her arm bitten out by a... something big." Even after all this time, Razarod still had no idea what to call that ridiculous creature, some mashup of dragon, hellhound, phoenix, and unicorn. "I have set up a home very near to her own. My presence is not being openly spoken of among them yet, so we both felt it was a good idea to keep me close, where she can keep an eye of me... Not that I've made that particularly easy, running off to Morrim and such." He chuckled again. Part of his running off was his plotting of revenge, but... He wasn't going to speak of that here. Nor would he let thoughts of it shadow his face while in her presence. This was not the time for such musings. As they approached, Khanrad flew down towards the house as well, eager to come inside and check it out along with them. "Khanrad came with me too. If you need any help getting a fire going, he'll be glad to help out. It's a bit nippy lately..." At this, the bird chirped loudly and flared its glow up, showing itself off, as the phoenix was often wont to do. "I must say, I am curious to see how you're living, and what you've done with the inside... I'm sure it's lovely though." He smiled once more, his arm tightening around hers just a bit as they neared the farmhouse door. |

Lilly felt her eyes roll at his comment, a smile on her lips. "If you had the type of talent I did, you'd complain too." She jested. "But thanks. It's definitely taken me a while, and lots of effort." And it sure did. The dirt all over her was enough proof of that. Even now she could feel the dirt caked to her arms and legs, and couldn't wait until she could bathe it off. When his excitement over the type of food they were having caught her ear, the priestess smiled. "That's a lot of pressure to put on someone, you know. I shall try not to disappoint you with the meal." As Razarod pushed the gate open and held it for her she smiled, stepping through and leading him toward the front of the home. "You probably should have stayed then, if her goal is to keep an eye on you," the elf stated, frowning slightly. "Perhaps it was because I was of an opposing element, but Sphynx wasn't too overly friendly to me when I first met her. She wasn't mean, necessarily, but I wouldn't want to make her mad nonetheless." Lilly looked up at him with a smile, a small blush still on her cheeks. "But I'm flattered all the same that you came to visit." Hearing he had made a special trip to Morrim, the elf couldn't help the smile. Still part of her wondered why he had come there. Was it just to see her? Surely he had some other business in this country? The duo reached the front of the house and Lilly watched as Khanrad flew down. A small laugh left her lips as he flared his glow. "Always showing off. Thank you, Khanrad, but I won't need help with the fire." Her oddly colored eyes glanced back at Razarod as he squeezed her arm slightly. Had he done that on purpose? Or was it perhaps just accidental and he didn't realize he was doing it? All the same, Lilly gave him a smile as she withdrew her arm to step up to the door. "I haven't done much to the inside. It's still not my home and I don't wish to intrude too much. It's still pretty much the way it was when I first came here." Her hand found the door knob and she turned it, stepping aside to let them in. "Please, make yourselves comfortable." Just through the door sat a quaint living room on the right, two hand-crafted sofas sitting in such a way as to invite conversation. The cushions were hand-sewn, one could tell just by looking at them, and they looked well used. With the number of people in the owner's family, these served mostly as extra beds. On the left was a small kitchen, cupboards and counters lining one side with a basin for water in the middle. A large cooking fireplace sat on the opposite wall. Stairs and two doors stood between the two rooms, the stairs leading up to a loft area where Lilly had been staying. It was small and sat positioned over the kitchen, giving her a nice view of the living room. The two doors on the bottom floor sat positioned on either side of the stairs. The one in the living room led to a bedroom, the other to the only bathroom in the home. For a peasant, the home was somewhat large. Then again, he was the main source of wheat for miles. On a stake on the fireplace was a chunk of venison, hanging over where the fire would go. Lilly had put it there earlier that morning, to save her time when she came in to start it. In a pot in the basin, a bowl of potatoes sat draining after being peeled. When the deer was ready to be cooked, she'd boil the potatoes to mash them. "It isn't much, but it's nice. Definitely bigger than the last place I stayed in." She couldn't help but smile as she thought back to her previous home. The one-room shack still held good memories, though. The monolithic man shrugged Lilly's worries off. "She knows I'm not stupid. Besides, she has work to do. A few days without me around won't kill her." He chuckled as the two of them made their way inside the house. "And I don't mean to put the pressure on. But I am sure you're an excellent cook." He looked around as he stepped inside the farmhouse. It was not as fancy as the accommodations he had grown used to back home, no... But there was something very nice about it. An intimate, homey feel, more like the conditions he had grown up in so long ago. He sat down on the cushions, worn, but comfortable and yielding. "It's a lovely place. It reminds me of the house I grew up in when I was a child. It was laid out pretty similar to this, actually. I remember the day I left it... My parents were in tears, but I had told them I wanted to go back to Angkar. To find out what happened to the land that we had come from. And they said they were proud of me for being brave enough to go... So I went back through the rift. Came back to this world. It had been over a decade since I had been away from it. Kenna had never been, of course... Angkar was just as bad off as it was when we had left it. Imagine my surprise when I was able to build it up to what it was today and they made me king!" He stopped his story and laughed, shaking his head a bit. He had given up his life to restore his homeland. It had been what ultimately drove him and Kenna apart: it was what had changed him. And now it was gone too. He would still have some friends, if they knew he was alive. If he had a way of telling them without the world knowing exactly where to find him. "But enough about that." He turned to Lilly, a smile back on his face. "This place is lovely. I'm glad I'm here with you. Is there anything you need help with?" |

"That almost sounds like a challenge, sir. I feel like I need to prove it to you now and make sure your statement doesn't prove false." With a smile Lilly shut the door behind them and moved silently past him as he took in the sights of the home. Her destination was to the window in the kitchen, where a long box sat bathed in sunlight. Lifting her hand, she lightly touched the leaves of her herbs, sending a mixed aroma of rosemary and mint wafting through the air. The elf turned her head as Razarod began his story, watching him for a moment before she turned to the counter and started her preparations for dinner. With little trouble she hoisted the pot of potatoes from the basin, dumping the starch onto the counter and catching all that threatened to roll off onto the floor. She placed the pot beside her cutting board before reaching up to take one of the knives off the wall. With a quick sharpening she moved back to her raw potatoes, grabbing one and starting to slice it up into cubes. He spoke about his past. About his parents. A smile reached her lips as she thought of her own. A small sliver of envy crossed her heart knowing that his parents had stayed together. His parents cared. But as quickly as the feeling came it left, disappearing as if it had never come at all. She had no control of the past, she knew that. All she could do was make sure her future turned out better. Every so often she turned her head to look back at Razarod, to make sure he knew she was still listening. She was looking down as she cut up the potatoes into chunks when he spoke of the rift. So he didn't grow up in this world? And what did he mean back through it? Was it possible that the rift was ever open to where he and his family had gone to? Or perhaps it just happened to open back up? Her head spun with questions about it. Perhaps a trip to the archives was in store for her soon. The man's tumbling laugh brought her back to the here and now and Lilly smiled, dropping a few more of the chunks into the pot. When he turned to her she looked over at him and smiled. "Thanks. I was quite taken with the place as well when I first saw it." When he mentioned help she paused for a moment. "Perhaps you could start a fire under the meat? If it doesn't start soon, we won't be eating until well after dark." The priestess turned back around and focused on her cutting. "It's a lot different than the house I grew up in. Then again my village was small. We didn't have much, and had to fit houses into the small clearings and spaces between trees. They were safer than living out in the open. Not that I mind living in fields. It's just a completely different experience." With the last of the potatoes cut, she put the pot back into the basin and reached her hand across to the pump, lifting up and pushing the handle down. A stream of water deposited itself into the pot. She pumped the handle a few more times, watching the pot so as not to overfill it. When she thought it was full enough Lilly stopped, letting the last of the water drain into the pot. Her eyes moved up as she reached up and plucked some rosemary leaves off her plant, sprinkling them in the water with a little salt. Without hesitation she grabbed the hand towel and dried her hands before moving back to the counter where a bowl of crushed dried herbs sat to be rubbed on the venison they were having for dinner. She picked up the bowl and walked over to the fireplace, standing to the side as she rubbed the herbs into the meat. "Do you miss it? Your old home? Your parents? It had to have been tough leaving them." With the last of the herbs on the meat, she pulled her hand back and looked at him with a smile. "I'm sure they'd be proud to hear that their son went on to be a king." |

Razarod leaned forward, his monolithic arm stretching towards the fire, a small jet of flame emitting from his fingertips into the wood, which began to crackle and spark until a hearty flame was produced. "Yeah, there was days where I do miss it. Always have been. It was very tough to leave them, but I had to come back here, to this world. It was where I was from. I wanted to show Kenna where I was from, and I was curious to see if things had gotten better. And if they hadn't, I wanted to change them. Which I did. I still think about the world I left behind though. I wonder how my parents are doing... I wonder how my daughter is doing too..." There was a bit of a pause before he looked up at her with a smile. "Thank you Lilly. I hope you're right. I like to think I did some good. Looking back, those six years I was king... Or more like... twelve or so if you account for the time thing... They seem so short. Kinda funny isn't it? Time was moving so slow, yet it still doesn't seem like it was all that long. It's a shame it's over already. I miss... everything. I really don't know how I would have gone this far if not for you." He sat down by the fireplace, watching her lithe, soft hands kneading the seasoning into the giant hunk of meat. "What about you? Why don't you tell me a little about where you came from.?" He smiled, sliding closer to the fire, and thusly her, as the evening air began to cool. |

Razarod answered her questions as she moved over to her potatoes, grabbing a lid for the medium-sized pot on her way there. She placed the lid on the pot before lifting it out of the water basin and back over to the fire. A large hook was protruding out of the wall, right beside the fire. Taking the large handle she lifted it up so it hung on the hook. Making sure the lid was on securely, she pushed the pot so it hung over part of the fire. The venison was slightly higher up, but over the direct heat of the fire so it would cook nicely. Turning she grabbed yet another bowl of seasonings and started adding some to the venison and some to the pot of potatoes. His questions made her head turn as she dumped the last of the herbs into the pot. "What? My home?" Lilly was slightly surprised being asked about it. It had been so long since anyone had wanted to get into real detail about it. Would she even remember? She turned and placed the now empty bowl on the counter before she turned around and leaned against it slightly. With her hands on either side of her on the counter, she gazed up at the ceiling at nothing while her mind traveled back to the past. "Well I've told you a little before. I lived in a small village in the middle of a giant forest. We pretty much were self-sustaining. Not many people traveled out of it, and not many people traveled in. Until the slavers came. They traveled anywhere. Took anything they could." Her voice trailed off for a minute before she looked back at him with a small smile. "But if you are talking more of Mianor, then I'm sure you could read about it in history books somewhere. I'm sure someone's recorded it all down." Lilly stood and moved over to grab a large spoon from one of the drawers. "Mianor was beautiful. At least the parts I lived in were. I knew every corner of the forest my village was in. And when my mother died and I left, I found myself in such a different place than I could have ever imagined." She moved back over to where the fire was, grabbing a stool and sitting down on it, keeping close to the fire to watch the food. "There were mountains and valleys. Tons of nice plains. Not to mention the rivers and the waterfalls." The priestess let out a small laugh. "I could go on forever about it. But I won't. It's gone now. I figure I'll get used to the one I'm in now. Travel everywhere to see the different nations and what they have to offer. Perhaps after helping out here, I'll travel around and find somewhere to settle down." The elf took a breath and looked over at him, giving him a small sly smile. "And I didn't forget what you said earlier. What did you mean about not coming this far if not for me? I haven't done anything, really. And when we met we only spent maybe an hour talking. I could not have influenced any decisions you have made since then." |

The former king smiled and leaned in closer to the elf, having placed himself next to her at the fire as she spun the tales of her old home and of Mianor. It sounded beautiful. But she was right, it was gone now. But the world she now found herself in had plenty to offer as well. "You would do well to appreciate the world you are in now. I have seen much of it, and I can tell you that much of it is every bit as beautiful as the land you describe, and so diverse. Travel, see it all. I know you will find somewhere that you love, for sure." He watched Lilly's eyes lighting up as she talked about the beautiful land and looked forward to the future. He had known her for a short time, it was true, but she was always so optimistic and friendly, even when she spoke of something sad. To see her thinking those cheerful thoughts increased her effect on him tenfold. She then took the man by surprise as she turned around and questioned him. What just had he meant? He hadn’t even thought about it. Was there something more going on between them? Had it been anyone else asking him that, he would have said there was. But since it was him… he didn’t know. Was it right, so soon? Did she even feel anything? His eyes met hers, his blazing green gazing into her multicolored eyes. It looked strange, two eyes different colors, but it looked nice on her. ”Well, it’s more… Finding the strength to go on with life was very hard for me. There was not much light on my horizons, but meeting you, that all changed. I had found someone I could relate to, someone I could share my time with, someone to bring happiness into my life again. And that was what I needed most. Actually making it this far was no problem for me… But finding the will to, and finding the strength to keep my head up in the meantime… That was you. The first… friend that I have made since then?” His voice trailed off with the word “friend.” That wasn’t quite what he meant. Razarod could not lie to himself, nor to her. ”Except… I’m not so sure… that’s the right word for it.” He could feel his heart pounding through his chest. Would she still be wearing that smile? Or would she send him away? |

"I don't doubt this land is beautiful. In its own way, of course. I guess there's something about where you came from that always holds a special place. Higher above than anything else you have the chance to see, you know?" Her eyes had an almost far-away look as she thought back to Mianor and all the places she would miss. She then refocused as she turned and looked at him. "But I could learn to love this one. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard. From what I saw on my way over the continent, and all that I've seen on my travels around Morrim, it seems like a very lovely place. I want to see the forest. Erth'netora Forest, I think? Sun and I flew over it before landing in the plains and I can't help but want to go see it." It was funny she wanted to visit a forest, after spending so long in one. Sun thought she was crazy, and already Lilly knew she probably wouldn't go with her. When Razarod's demeanor changed, the elf couldn't help but focus her attention on him. The smile on her lips didn't fade as he continued, talking of finding someone to relate to. She felt the same way. Of course, she hadn't met many people here in Elenlond. Her eyebrow lifted slight at the question he made at the end of his sentence. 'The first... friend that I have made since then?' Why had he made it a question? All was answered when he spoke again. At first, Lilly didn't think anything of it. "Oh I'm sure friend is..." The elf started before trailing off, her mind finally catching up with what he was saying right as the lid on the potatoes started to rattle. Her mind was preoccupied, however, and ignoring the boiling pot. Her eyes turned down as she felt her heart start to race. Was he really saying what she thought he was? They had known each other so short of a time. Her head turned up to look over at him. Lilly could almost see his quickened pulse as a result of what he had said. She herself was feeling somewhat of the same thing. When was the last time someone had said something like that to her? Back in Mianor. So long ago. The silence between them seemed to drag out, though only lasted a few moments. "Razarod..." She said softly, turning in her seat to face him more as her hands reached out and took one of his large ones in her two smaller hands. She didn't look up at him, instead looked down at the hands. "I... I almost don't know what to say." Her eyes turned up to him. She could feel a heat on her cheeks that hadn't been there moments before. "I think for now... For now, friend is a good word." A smile returned to her lips as she looked up at him. Her hands squeezed his hand lightly. "I do care for you, don't get me wrong. I just... I think for the both of us, friends is a good place to start off right now." |

The man’s face flushed deeper as Lilly’s own cheeks joined in, her reply trailing off as the meaning behind his words gradually came to her. He waited for a few seconds that seemed to drag on for hours. The lid on the kettle in the background began to rattle, the potatoes inside coming to a boil, the both of them ignoring the pot making its racket as they processed what was happening between them. Finally, her words came, and they were a relief. Not total acceptance, but he would have been a fool to expect that. She was not angry. She was not afraid, or hurt. She was simply smart, and cautious. And had every right to be. ”No, you’re right. We’re definitely not ready for anything else yet. Maybe I shouldn’t have even said anything, but… No, I’m glad I did. But you’re right. Friends is good for now.” His hand tightened a bit around hers, her soft flesh pressing against his own, a smile spreading over his face. He was relieved, and quite happy. It had been so many months now since he had experienced any sort of connection like this. For the first time in quite a while, Razarod was… happy. His attention was brought back to the world around him as he finally noticed the pot making its angry racket, demanding the attention of the chef. Razarod smiled and nodded his head towards the pot. ”I think it’s getting angry. We might want to do something before it starts trouble.” He winked at her. ”That would be bad, especially since you’re entertaining a former king, you know.” |

She didn't know what to expect. So long it had been since someone had revealed feelings such as his to her, that Lilly was almost afraid of what the result would be of her words. But as her words sank into him, she could almost see the relief wash over his face. And with his relief hers followed suit. "Friends is good for now." She found herself repeating as he lightly squeezed her hand. Lilly had never had a problem making friends. And to hear that she had made yet another one during her return back to the land she would now call home planted almost a permanent smile on her face. First with Nevada and all of the crew and the captain on the ship that brought her reason to leave Daro. Now Razarod, who seemed to trust her enough to tell her who he really was, had deemed her a friend. For so long she had worried about finding a way to fit in in this new world. That didn't seem so far away anymore. As Razarod brought her attention back to the food, she turned her head to look at the screaming pot, the lid rattling almost violently enough to slide right off the pot and into the fire. She stood up and moved over to it, grabbing a large cloth and pulling the pot away from the fire that sizzled with each spit of water the pot gave it. With a smile she turned over to Razarod. "All right big strong man, come get this for me." Hanging the cloth over the handle of the pot for him to use, she moved over to the sink and placed a collander in it. "Just pour it in here. We'll have to let that sit for a minute. I'll need something from outside." Opening a drawer she got out a masher, ready to get down to it. But there was one thing she would need if they were going to make mashed potatoes. As soon as he had dumped the potatoes she led him outside and around the home to where the cows were. She glanced over at him as she opened the fence. "Have you ever had fresh milk before?" |

The smirk not leaving his face as she asked him for assistance, her compliment to his strength dripping with complete, but friendly mockery, Razarod stood and grabbed the handle, thankful for the cloth she had draped over it, and easily carried it over to the sink. He tipped the massive cast iron pot, pouring the heavy load of potatoes into the coriander, the still nearly-boiling water rippling through the holes and down into the basin. He followed Lilly outside, an arm draped over her shoulder as they stepped through the farmhouse door, his other issues far from his mind now as he accompanied her to get milk. ”While we kept it pretty fresh at the castle, I can say certainly that I’ve never had milk that was quite this fresh.” He chuckled. He shivered a bit, the evening chill having set itself in well while they were inside, and his coat left inside of the house. ”We weren’t rich when I grew up by any means. Pretty poor, actually. But we didn’t live on a farm, so I still never drank milk immediately after it came from the cow. But I’m sure you have?” Finally, the pair of them reached the barn in which the cows were kept, and he opened the door for Lilly, allowed her to pass before rushing inside himself, glad to be out of the brisk autumn wind for a bit. ”Is there anything I can do here?” |

Lilly didn't say anything about the large man's arm draped around her shoulders. Though it might have weighed her down slightly she didn't mind it. If anything it was an affirmation that they were, indeed, friends. They stepped into the farmhouse and Lilly moved from beneath his arm and walked over to the side of the barn, grabbing a stool, a large jug, and a bucket. A smile reached her lips as he asked his first question. "Oh I have. We had one cow growing up. Whenever my mom needed some she'd send me out and I'd always sneak some before taking it back inside." She smiled as she led them over to where the cow and her calf were eating some hay. The calf was just old enough to start eating solid foods, and was having a grand old time doing it. When Razarod asked if he could do anything she just smiled as she set the stool down beside the cow. "How about you just talk to her?" The elf offered as she moved to sit on the stool. "Helps with the production if you just talk." Placing the bucket under the cow and the jug next to her, Lilly turned and looked over at the large man. "Just go over around to her front and start stroking her neck and face and just talk." Even as she said that she had put her hand on the cow's side, stroking the fur and petting it softly. The cow let out a content noise as she chewed some hay, her big brown eyes turning up to look at Razarod. Lilly's practiced hand moved down the cow's side to grab one of the nipples on the udder. Her other one grabbed a different one close to it. Making sure the bucket was underneath it, she turned her attention to the job in front of her and set to work milking the cow. |

Nervously, Razarod walked around to the front of the cow and began stroking its head and neck. ”Hey there. What’s your name girl?” The cow let out a bit of a snort through her large, wet nose as Razarod, her wide eyes looking up at him. ”You don’t mind at all do you? Because Lilly’s a nice lady. Pretty, too, isn’t she?” He shoots a glance at her, smirking, as he pets the cows head, who leans forward and nudges him a bit. He leaned over to watch Lilly work, smiling at her. ”Hope you don’t mind if I watch. I never actually watched anyone do this before.” He continued stroking the cow’s head and neck and chatting to it absentmindedly. ”What’s your name? Huh? You should tell me.” He chuckled a bit as he continued petting the large, docile beast. ”I can see why you enjoy this life, Lilly. Even though it’s clearly a lot of hard work, there’s something peaceful about it. I never really got that when I was king, you know? Always running about, everywhere… Everyone needing me for something… And I wasn’t able to spend as much time with the people closest to me that I would have liked. And now…” He went back to petting the cow, kneeling down in front of her, and was immediately greeted by a lick to the face. ”Gah!” He laughed after crying out in surprise. ”Easy there girl. You didn’t even buy me dinner first.” |

As she worked, Lilly turned her eyes up and watched Razarod as he interracted with the cow. The more he talked to her the more relaxed she got. Razarod was using this opportunity to try and flatter her every chance he got. Which she didn't necessarily mind. The compliments weren't at all unwanted. She caught him watching her and she smiled as she shook her head. "No, it's fine. I don't mind it. Maybe one day I'll show you how to do it." She said with a small grin. Her eyes moved back to her work as she listened to Razarod chat to the cow before speaking to her. Her eyes moved between her hands and him at the front of the cow. She was leaning back when she saw the cow lick across his face. A hearty laugh escaped her lips as she leaned back on the stool, putting a hand on the cow's side as she leaned her forehead against the bovine's fur. It responded to Razarod with a low and content moo. The bucket was completely full when Lilly moved backward, pushing the stool back and grabbing a small mug from beside her. The old owner kept one out here, probably for the exact reason she was about to use it for now. She bent down and dipped the can down in the bucket before she stood. Lilly pulled the bucket over toward the wall before she moved over to the head of the cow. "I think she just wants to make sure you don't try cooking her for dinner." She jested with a grin before she held the cup out. "Here, try it. "It's definitely a lot of work. But there are nice rewards for it as well. After doing it for weeks on end it can get tiring though. Unless you know how to look at it in a positive light." Her lips curled up in a smile. "That is to say you don't take on more than you can handle. This place here is definitely a lot of work." |

Razarod kept stroking the cow’s head until Lilly finished filling the bucket, which did not take all that long. He lifted his hands from the cow’s head as the elf came around to the front of the docile bovine beast, the mug of milk in her hand. The giant took it in his hands as she extended the cup towards him, smiling as he accepted the milk. ”Thank you.” He took a drink from the mug, the sweet liquid passing through his lips, and swallowed. ”Wow, that’s really good. I’ve never had it that way before,” he said, passing the cup back to Lilly. As the two of them prepared to leave, he picked up the bucket and opened the barn door for her. ”You seem to be handling it very well though. Everything seems to be running well here. Have you looked into helping with the food shortage in the country at all? When I was king, my plans were always to lend Morrim a hand in recovering. But I’m not sure how that’s going now…” He trailed off and his voice dropped in pitch a bit as a lamented, but quickly he perked back up. ”But I’m sure they will be glad for your help. And you’ll do great with it.” He stepped closer to her, borrowing some warmth for the trip back to the farmhouse. The evening chill had further set in now, and he shivered quite a bit as the pair walked back to the house. Finally, the two of them reached the house and quickly went inside, the fire having warmed the place thoroughly, the man’s shivering finally relaxing and his skin relieving itself of the goosebumps it had acquired. ”I’m really not used to it being this cold. Living on a tropical island for years will do that to you!” He laughed a bit as he grabbed two plates, knives, and forks, and began to set them out, getting the table ready for their dinner. |

"It's not surprising that you haven't had it that way. Not many people find themselves drinking milk right from the cow. They generally like it cold rather than warm. But I find when it's warm it brings about a nice calmness with it." The elf took the cup back and moved back over to where the bucket was, pulling it out from underneath the bovine. As she hung the mug back up her eyes glanced over to Razarod, who had picked up the bucket of milk and was waiting at the barn door. Quickly she moved over to it and they exited the barn. "I'm glad you think so," Lilly replied as they walked back toward the house. "It's been rather tough. But I enjoy the challenge. Once I get it back to its original state it will be much easier to maintain. It's just getting there that will be where the work comes in." They neared the house when the former king spoke of the problem in Morrim. "I actually have thought about it a bit." She stated as they reached the door. She stepped inside and shook herself off slightly, getting rid of the cold chill that had started to settle on her skin. The priestess' hand reached out and she took the bucket from him, moving over to the potatoes as he started to get out the cutlery. A small laugh escaped her lips as she saw him seem to perk up at the warmth. "I guess it's an acquired thing. I actually don't mind the chill. Extreme cold isn't my favorite, but I can't stand extreme heat. I'd take a cold snowy day before I'd take an extreme sweltering heat." She giggled slightly. "Kind of contradictory to what an Earth Priestess would like, isn't it?" Her hand reached into a nearby cupboard and she took out a small cup. "Before I settled here I was actually traveling all over Morrim. The towns, villages, countryside. Trying to figure out who needed what and what actually needed to be fixed. I helped a lot of people on the way." With the cup Lilly scooped up some milk and poured it in with the potatoes. She then grabbed the masher she had placed on the counter and started to work at crushing the starch down to a creamier form. "I think, once I finish here and someone comes to look after it, I am going to go to talk to the Empress and Emperor. See if they would allow me to go help their people. I don't want to just do something and it seem like they don't care. It's there country. And they are probably as desperate to help heal it as I am. I hate to see a dead land with no plants." Once she finished with the potatoes, which she had also added some salt and rosemary to, she moved back to the fireplace, where she carefully pulled the meat away from the fire. "I think the meat's done. Think you could look around the cupboards for something we could drink with our meal? I haven't really paid much attention to what there is." Lilly walked over to the counter where she grabbed a large plate and a carving knife and moved back to the venison. "What were your plans to help Morrim?" She asked as she started to carve out some pieces of the deer. "I mean, did you actually have things set that you had planned to follow through with?" Edited by Lilly, Sep 25 2012, 06:32 PM.

”I’d have to say, it is a bit unexpected. You seemed like such a summer lady to me.” The former king chuckled as he set out plates and silverware, listening to the elf talk some more. She spoke of her travels around Morrim, and how she wanted to help restore the land. “A very noble goal,” he thought. More people really should be like her. Himself included. ”I’m sure they will be very happy for your help, Lilly. This place needs people like you badly right now.” He smiled. ”I hate to see an area without plants too. The whole thing with living on a tropical island again… It starts to feel alien when there aren’t any around. I think you’d like that part of it… Don’t think you’d like the heat though. It doesn’t really snow any there.” He laughed and finished setting up the table for the two of them. Razarod began sifting through the cupboards as he answered her inquiry. He had to brush a couple cobwebs away, as they had not received much attention and Lilly had not had much time to look through them. ”I knew it would take Morrim time to get back onto its feet so I was going to continue providing aid in the form of food and such. I also had people looking further into the magic of the Eye of Zanna. Not that we could study it too closely, considering that I had to destroy it to get it to stop affecting the land this way. Well, we had to destroy it. I certainly had help from Sphynx and Kenna. I didn’t really know much else about the problem at the time. I’m not sure Sphynx knew everything about it… And it’s not like I could go ask Andromalius. Even if I had trusted him, nobody knew where he was at the time.” Finally, Razarod came upon a few familiar-looking bottles stashed away in the cabinet. ”Oh… look at this. Hemlock must be keeping my work up to some degree, because these are too new to be the ones I sent over…” He pulled several bottles out of the cupboard, setting them on a table. The glass was dark and sported a black label carrying the image of a slender, lanky, shadowy phoenix, looking almost demonic, lurking behind large gothic lettering. ”One of my favorites, even.” |
