SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

Entering the city always slightly assaulted her with strong feelings of pain, love, and any other strong feeling that was coming from any person within eyesight. Enaliss quickly closed her mind off to all of these and rejoiced in the sudden relief of only having her own feelings. Her outward demeanor was calm and collected as she walked through the city, smiling at those who recognized her and heading for the tavern, determined to relax just a bit. Being nice to these fools all the time was taxing on her and she could use a stiff drink. Her stride was purposeful as she walked into the tavern, ordering an ale and taking a seat at a table. Her keen eyes scanned the tavern quickly for any threats, as was her tendency, although it appeared to others that she was casually taking in the scenery. Her lips were in a casual smile and her pose was relaxed, although her mind was doing a thousand different things at once.

When her ale arrived, she downed it quickly and ordered another, not worried about getting drunk. She had a strong command over her body posture, facial expressions, and actions when she was sober and it didn't change much when she was drunk. The only thing that changed was However, she only planned on having one or two more and taking it easier on the others, just to relieve some of her tension.

There was something powerful about controlling someone without them knowing. It was almost like a drug to Enaliss and she couldn't stop if she tried. No one would love her if they knew how she really was, so she had to keep up a facade.

Anna came downstairs, just behind Tekun... it was growing into the late afternoon before they came down the stairs. There were various looks from the staff... mostly minor confusion from the wait-staff... and a few looks of approval from the bartender, and the owner.

Anna looked around the room... it was a nice tavern, but it was no Oasis, oh well. Her eyes fell on what she would consider eye candy. Hello, love.. she thought to herself as she looked over the delicate, yet contained features of the elven woman. She had no idea what an elf was, but she liked whatever this young lady was. She made an effort to steer Tekun towards her. Bah... 1200? she focused on the woman for a moment. I -really- need to get my sight checked.

She was also looking over all of the plates, as they passed them. The food smelled roughly the same... spices a little different, if nothing else. Oddly, she didn't feel as hungry as she often did at home. Eggs looked good. Carbs... potatoes. Definitely. A bit early for alcohol... hopefully they had juice, or wouldn't laugh her out of the tavern for ordering water. She had the muscles of a feline as she moved, but her steps were a few merits short of fluidly graceful. She was working on it.

Tekun entered in disguise, white hair, black eye patch and he had a sort of regal look to him. The Damascus hung at his side sheathed. Anna followed behind him. He had explained to her that he needed to stay low for a bit here. Letting his identity be known was more than a little bit of an issue. Especially here. The Empress was on his side but the capitol would not be. He needed time to complete what he needed to do. Tekun noticed Anna change direction briefly. Towards some…elven woman? Young? A pretty thing for sure. He supposed it didn’t matter.

He passed the woman, looking around for an open seat. Damn…it was busy this morning wasn’t it. Now more importantly. Why did this one seem familiar too. He swore he knew her from somewhere. He supposed it didn’t matter much. Maybe it was just old age acting up. Oh well…she had more than a few open seats.

“Excuse me miss?” Tekun asked Enaliss. Something about her through him off though. He wasn’t sure why. He looked back to Anna whom simply walked oddly. Gravity? Bleh. She’d learn in time. “Do you have room for two more? There are not many seats available and I see you have but a few more. Where are my manners. My name is Vincent Le Flouren.” He lied, of course. It was his alias of course. It may as well have been true. He often responded to the name Vincent. He figured Anna would intrudce herself. He didn’t want to impose a disguise on her too. He supposed it didn’t matter, she basically poofed into existence.

"And I'm Anna Chronos." she bowed her head, slightly... unsure of greeting. God, I hope bowing doesn't get me killed.... She seemed mildly anxious... she looked around the room, still trying to gauge the age of things, in passing... she'd figure it out.

Her eyes were once again drawn to the elf, she could glean more poise from her at this range than she'd expected. She seemed to be good at carrying herself. She wished she could say the same for herself right now. She probably looked a little drunk. "A pleasure... I don't believe we've met..."

She huffs a stray few strands of hair out of her face, as she snatches a menu from a passing waiter, and starts to... remember she can't read it... she kept up the charade, all the same, feigning indecision, as she flipped back and forth through the book. Based on the formatting... she was mostly sure she was holding it right-side up... She chewed her lip, as she thumbed back and forth, tracing the menu one-handed.

Enaliss noticed the two walking downstairs, mostly because there were a lot of different kinds of stares following them. The woman looked as if something was wrong with her. There was something foreign about her that she couldn't place her finger on. She lowered her wards around her mind just slightly and focused on the two of them, receiving feelings of deception, lust, and slight uncertainty, but she could have figured that out just from looking at them. She closed off her mind again and remained relaxed, studying their body posture without staring. The woman appeared to be a little subservient to the male, but that could have been a preemptive assumption on her part.

She looked up from her ale when the man spoke to her, a pleasant smile on her face. She couldn't see any use they could be of to her at the moment, but perhaps if she found out more about them, she could find some use for them. "Why of course," she said with a small smile, gesturing to the empty seats. She was not surprised he didn't extend a hand in greeting; he didn't seem the type for such useless formalities. She opened up her mind again for just a minute, sensing his deception as he said what he name was and reading it in his body posture at the same time. There was a reason she had gotten as far as she had. Should she say her real name? The adviser to the emperor and empress was well known and she knew that not everyone enjoyed her presence, but she wasn't afraid of anything. "Enaliss, a pleasure to the both of you," she said, nodding with another smile at the two of them. Anna still seemed a little off, but she didn't think too much of it, just storing that little snippet in the back of her mind for later.

Enaliss hated small talk, but it was the best way to get to know someone and discover what made them tick. "What brings you two to Kinaldi?" she asked genuinely, taking a sip of her ale.

Enaliss. Ah, she was that newly appointed advisor. After the revolution and all things had settled new faces showed, she was known. It was the only reason that she had any sense of familiarity. He made a mental note to behave and to not tip her off. He took a seat when she gestured. He sensed no ill will.

“We’re passing through. Business and all.” It was vague but certainly true. Tekun was simply coming through, this was not a permanent stay. He would be gone once that business was accomplished. He knew what he wanted already, not even looking at the menu. Breakfast today was going to be bacon and eggs, Beverage, a black coffee. “Your name, I believe I know it. This is certainly a treat.” He was being kind, maybe kissing her rear a little just to stay on her good side. “You work for the Empress. One of her advisors.” He gave her a legitimate smile and looked to Anna whom seemed to be having trouble with the menu. He didn’t look embarrassed at all by how she composed herself.

He looked about, it may be a while before a waiter or waitress came about. He tried to think of…what exactly he could do to help Anna out in this situation. Ugh, this was going to be a headache.

Anna took a seat, placing the menu onto the table, as she folded her leg over its counterpart. "Umm... on second thought, you order for me, Vincey?" she flashed a smile to Enaliss. "I'm pretty much stuck with Vincey wherever he goes." she shrugs. She finally closes up the menu, and slides in, uncrossing her legs as she does.

"Oh! Wow! The Emperor and Empress! Color me Empressed!" her grin widened a bit. She could play bubbly airhead... she had the haircolor for it. She giggled at the role more than her own joke. "I've never met royalty before. I'd love to hear anything you could tell!" she gives a nod of enthusiasm, one-hundred percent true, that. "What do you advise on?" she huffed another tuft of hair out of her face, this time it had somewhat intentionally fallen. She wasn't a perfect actress, but she'd gotten by on it once or twice...

She continued to peruse the various objects and people of the inn... she was getting a decent read on ages by going about the humans and playing 'guess' and linking up her new readings to theirs... it was not going to be an ideal way of doing things, but it was all she had. She kept one ear turned to the Advisor at all times, not exactly feigned interest.

She watched with veiled amusement as her name registered in the man's head and noted how he reacted, suddenly treading very lightly around her. She expected that from most and wasn't surprised anymore, just slightly disappointed that he wasn't different. Whenever someone recognized her, they reacted the same and she was treated differently. At times, she appreciated it because she could judge a person easier and she could get things easier by using her position, but at other times she wanted to be on equal footing with those she talked to in order to make them feel more at ease with her.

Enaliss appeared to accept his explanation of why he was here, mostly because she didn't detect deception, but that didn't mean it was the whole truth. She smiled a little and nodded. "Yes, that I am," she responded affirmatively, watching him for a moment as he seemed to be trying to figure something out. It didn't seem too important, so she turned her attention to Anna for a moment. The girl seemed to be playing up her relationship with the man a little too much and she noted that, but only smiled and took another sip of ale.

"There's not much to tell," she said with a small shrug, lying easily. She just wasn't inclined to tell people things they didn't need to know. Besides, telling some of the secrets of the emperor and empress would surely lose the trust she had taken so long to build. "Just this and that, foreign policy, boring political stuff," she said with a wave of her hand, acting as if it was just work and she would rather not talk about it. "It's completely uninteresting, but it pays well." Enaliss wasn't letting on much, which was how she liked it, and she was still feeling out the two of them.

A waitress came over, the same from the other day when he had actually eaten with the Empress. She came with notebook ready to take orders. Smiling, another governmental figure? This place must have become popular.

“Bacon and egg. Black coffee” Tekun responded to her before looking at Enaliss with a raised eyebrow. “Oh come now, you make it sound like we don’t live in an interesting time. The empress has just returned and other things. You make it sound so dull.” He gave a chuckle. The fact of the matter was she was either not at liberty to say or she was a very poor advisor in which case he hoped Isra had enough common sense to discard of her. But there must be more to the woman than that. He mentally sighed. Typical politician.

“I suppose that it can be a little dull every now and then though.” He complied slightly and let himself ease up, he reclined back into his seat. “Weather is a little off. Yesterday was a fine day but the rain today is a quite a bother. I do not frequent here often, could you suggest a few sights to see while we’re here?” It would certainly help Anna, he knew the capital well enough but it had been a while since his last real visit.

“It’s been a while for myself. Can’t remember the last time I’ve been here. Things have changed, probably for the better.” He gave a warm smile.

"Oh! I'll have the same. But four spoons of sugar in the coffee." she nods. He'd somehow managed to order no carbs, what was with him? She rolls her eyes. She shakes her head to the girl. "I'd be terrible at politics... everyone I talk to has always talked about how they don't do anything of interest." she shakes her head. "boring!" she smiles.

Her legs fidgeted under the table, as her hands played with the silverware. "I'd have to have an interesting job, I wouldn't care if it paid well... though, how is the pay?" she tilted her head. She'd somehow managed to not learn what the currency was. "And what sort of advisor? Treaties? Military? Economic?" she smiled, before going back to her people-watching for a moment. She was kind of curious how anyone could live with a boring job... taking the woman's words at face-value. No point in lying to a stranger, unless you had a sizable secret to keep... and if that were the case, it was none of the business of the other person anyway.

She grinned, despite herself. "Yeah, I was hoping to visit a library while I'm here. Is there one of those around?" she inwardly sighed... she wanted to read, and there was nothing -to- read. All the words were just not-so-pretty pictures.

Enaliss laughed lightly after Tekun commented about them living in an interesting time. "Perhaps you are right. I enjoy what I do, I just didn't want to bore you with the details. I tend to get a little over-excited when I start to talk about my job, but other people don't find it very interesting," she explained with a slight wave of her hand, acting completely natural while she was finding this completely uninteresting. She listened to him talk for a moment, noting that he changed the topic of conversation faster than a shapeshifter changed shape. He seemed to not be focused on one thing which annoyed her a little, but she was stuck talking to the both of them for now. She couldn't appear to be rude now that she had committed to fooling them as she fooled everyone else.

She smiled at Anna. "Not everyone is meant for politics. There are certain aspects that are exciting, such as when you have to prevent full out war from starting just in negotiations. Other things are more than a little tedious, however. I figured you wouldn't really be that interested," Enaliss said to Anna with a small shrug, finishing her ale. Her eyes traveled to Anna's fiddling hands and the shaking table that showed the girl was also moving her feet restlessly, wishing the girl would stop. "You ask a lot of questions. The pay is very good. I advise them on most everything. Mostly foreign and economic policy, but really whatever they need." She was being very cordial and nice, but underneath her natural-looking exterior, she was getting impatient. They didn't appear to have any value to her now, but maybe in the future that would change.

Enaliss maintained a relaxed posture, one hand resting on her empty glass. She gestured with the other towards her left as she answered Tekun's next question. "Well there is the Academy across the city with a pretty extensive library. You might be able to find a music library around Tunetown as well," she said.

Overexcited was better than boring, this woman was boring. Tekun barely held back a yawn. Maybe he hadn’t rested as well as he would have liked. The orders of food came and were placed out, they had given Tekun an extra helping. It looked appetizing enough. He reached for the coffee and drank regardless of how hot and steaming it was. More importantly, Anna was quiet and he felt a little disheartened that he couldn’t do much to help her with talk.

“Would they allow us in the Academy? Maybe if you have time after this you could bring us down and maybe. More company is always nice.” He invited her, truth be told he knew nothing of the academy. He shrugged mentally. “What do you think Anna? Or do you have any other ideas?” He sipped more of the coffee, his eye darted to Enaliss again. “By all means talk about things, we lack knowledge of the politics or most things in this area. Addressing that lack of knowledge is likely a good remedy. Lest we get into trouble.”

He drank his coffee and began to actually eat his meal, bacon was over done. He frowned but ate anyway. At least it still taste half decent. He couldn’t complain, he’d eaten Sotoan rations before. At least the eggs were better, which was further disheartening. Eggs should not taste better than bacon.

Anna smiled at the arrival of food... something that would always remain true. Her stomach was just about to rumble when the food was placed before her.. and the coffee, which was more an off-white than a brown after all that sugar had been added. Wonderful... her smile widened.

"Yeah... I'm kind of not from around here, I'm only now getting my ground legs." she nodded. "Anything you could tell me to keep me from accidentally sleighting someone would be amazing!" She took a bite of the eggs.

"And of course, I'd love to get into any form of library, though you needn't take us personally, maybe just put in a good word?" she smiled. "Though I could understand not wanting to help out strangers, as you really don't know us, and we're only sharing a table out of luck!"

Next up was a bit of bacon. Perfect. "Or anything else you might think would be interesting that we -could- go to? I heard that Tunetown was an amazing place to go, but I didn't get a chance to ask if it was public or not. I know a lot of things around here aren't." Anna had apparently been people listening, in addition to her people watching... which made all of this true. Her mind still had a tendency to wander, despite juggling the nearby conversations, catching precious snippets... so she was still not catching as much as she'd like. She sniped more egg.

"What initially brought you to Kinaldi?" she continued to try for some small talk... it was -not- working. The woman was effectively a brick wall on hinges, when it came to actually talking to her. She was visually animated enough, but she still seemed... not Anna's type after all... luckily, she was entertained by the various other activities and goings-on. Bacon was now gone.

She took a sip of the slightly cooled coffee-flavored sugar-water, Amazing, while she awaited her conversation partner's reply. Anna had a habit of talking circles around people, completely unintentionally. Having the habit of saying what comes to mind, while remaining in character, tended to do that.
