Sophia had returned early the morning after she'd left for Ashoka. Kenna had been surprised when the woman had said she'd be back by morning... Now, with papers in hand, she and Elina made their way across Soare. It would be a long journey. Especially with Elina getting to be too heavy to carry for very long and too young to walk well on her own. Kenna had considered buying a horse or mule to help get them across the continent but when she had approached sellers all they had seen was a single mother and instantly raised the prices. Threatening their lives was not exactly "being unremarkable" so Kenna had sighed, purchased a length of cloth, and fashioned a more secure carrier for Elina to sit in on her back. They had been traveling for three days at this point. Kenna had finally come to terms with the fact that she would only be able to walk a few hours before Elina had to be let out to play and rest. Not to mention Kenna's back began to ache the first evening after a full day of walking and carrying Elina. "Alright, little princess. Come on, we need to keep moving. Mommy promises to let you have a longer play time later..." It wasn't so much that Elina could follow her conversation as Kenna just needed some kind of interaction to keep herself from going crazy with worry. Was she being followed? Watched? Was someone going to kidnap her and Elina? Was someone going to murder them on the road? She had to rig her bow and quiver in such a way that she could easily reach it but Elina couldn't. That had lasted maybe half a day before she had switched Elina to her front, facing the road and the quiver had been strapped back across her back. What a sight she had to be. Part archer, part mother, all frazzled. |

Tekun was nearby, walking. Going through the motions along the path. He’d find his way back. He was wounded yet. A wreck. The warrior was bandaged, may as well been held together by duck tape. He kept his eyes shielded. For all intensive purposes he may as well have been blind. He had just regained his sight and had grown quite irritable. Those paladins had done a number on him and that rage had not helped. He looked worse for wear than usual. His hair lost luster and he looked sickly and wounded. He used the Damascus as more of a crutch than anything. He carried supplies as he moved. He had a bounty here too, not much of one but still, it was important to try to keep things low. Kenna was ahead. Some woman who looked the picture of chaos. If the two had been traveling together they may as well have been Sotoan Refugees. He scoffed at the thought, to be as pathetic as that other man. That frustrated him. He grumbled inaudibly to himself, drew his flask and drank from it. Placing it by his side. Suddenly he felt his side become lighter. He brought his blade up, sheathed and slammed it into a pick pocket’s face. The man fell over utterly shocked. “How did you do that! You’re bl-” Tekun stomped on the man’s face immediately. “More wits about me than you. Give it or die.” He slid his boot off the man’s face who immediately dropped his coin bag. Tekun scooped it up and reattached it. The man whom had done it was the shady type, Tekun hadn’t noticed him until just a moment ago because he was frustrated and simply didn’t care enough. Now the low life lay on the ground was a tooth through his lip and a dislocated nose. Bleeding. Tekun continued on his way, taking a deep breath. |

Elina whined and whimpered as Kenna fit her back into the make-shift sling she'd fashioned. "Down, mommy! Down!" "I know, baby. I know-" Her thought was was cut off when a scuffle was heard behind her. She whipped around earning a happy squeal from Elina. As Elina giggled and said "Again, again!" over and over, Kenna looked for the source of the noise. Of course, it didn't take long. The few around had stepped back to get out of the way of the ragged man removing his foot from the pick-pocket's face. She seemed rooted to the ground where she stood. Did she help the man who had just been knocked to the ground - a thief - or the man who seemed to have a bit more strength under the ragged appearance he had? The man was injured, Kenna could tell. She looked down at Elina who had gotten a hold of her long braid and was now chewing on it. She couldn't leave the man to wander around injured as he was. And he didn't seem to be in possession of the best vision. She could at least help him to a place of rest. By the time she'd decided this, the stranger was upon her. She turned quickly as he strode by and gently tapped his shoulder. "Sir... you're - you're injured! You need someone to see to that." Kenna pointed to the various bandages that covered him. "I can help, truly." She pulled her braid from Elina's mouth and threw it over her shoulder. Perhaps this wasn't such a fantastic idea. Onlookers were now eyeing her as she spoke with the stranger. |

“I appreciate the gesture lass.” He looked her in the eyes. His eyes were still glossy, indicating some type of damage had been done but it did not look all that natural. He looked about, he suddenly felt uneasy. People were looking. He didn’t like that and the last thing he needed to happen was for something else to happen. Why did this woman look familiar though? He didn’t know her. And then the child? She had a child right. His eyes flickered to her for a moment, dark navy hair. He would worry about it later. “More importantly. I think -we- should start moving.” He looked uneasy. He felt like something was about to happen but he wasn’t sure what. “And maybe then you can take a look, but only once we’re away from them.” He didn’t exactly imply a threat but that he wanted to keep moving. He might have thought something was going to happen. The bloodied pickpocket picked himself off the ground. Holding his face and mouth and scurried off. He muttered something beneath his breath. Something about how he’d pay and that he didn’t know who he was dealing with it. Tekun paid it no mind and continued to move. “Just a bit further. I don’t know the area well? Do you miss?” He asked her and then wished he was in disguise. Oh well…he thought. No point in trying to conceal himself if he was going to be recognized anyway. Such was life. |

Kenna saw his eyes flit to Elina. So he wasn't quite as sightless as she had initially thought. For a moment, she felt alarm tear through her as he seemed to recognize Elina. True, her hair was rather similar to her father's... but certainly not that uncommon that every time someone saw Elina they tried to sort out where they'd seen that hair. Kenna could only be thankful that the child had her eyes and not Razarod's. She followed his gaze and saw the pickpocket begin to rise from the ground. "He should probably have that looked at, too... before he considers-" Again, she was cut off as he walked on, obviously intending for her to follow. "No, I'm not very familiar with the area. I'm passing through on my way home to Ashoka... We'd been visiting my," She paused, thinking, "sister." Of course, if she'd been visiting her sister, why hadn't she been better equipped for travel? She'd sort out those details later. After she fixed this man up. She had a few of her healing herbs tucked away in her small pack and knew she would certainly be making a dent in her supply. She would have to take the time to collect more specimens along the way. "There." She pointed to a secluded area where she could take a look at his injuries. It was behind one of the small town's larger buildings just off the main thoroughfare. A well was close by as well which would be useful if she found she needed to clean any wounds. She hoped it would keep them from being noticed by those who had seen the, ahem, disagreement earlier but not so secluded that she would put herself and Elina in danger. |

She seemed nervous the moment he even looked at her daughter? Why? Was he that intimidating even though she offered to help? What was she hiding? He didn’t care much, he was hiding too after all. Just curiosity popping to the surface of his mind. The pickpocket had long left and Tekun chuckled at the comment. Ashoka? She didn’t look like she was heading into the desert. Hell. Who would want to go into Ashoka at this time? It was dangerous, especially for a single mother traveling alone. That stood out more than anything in his mind. Behind the one of the larger buildings. Fenced off. It was a back alley, they would be fine here. At least for the moment. He took a seat and removed his robes and began undoing his bandaging. Including removing his shirt. The man had seen combat recently and judging from his wounds, he had taken more than a beating. He sat there, looking to her with an analytic but kind gaze. “The name is Tekun.” He confessed to her. He had not actually lied to her about anything, but it felt like he needed to be honest rather than not lie to her face. “Who are you if I may ask?” Tekun asked. “And by that I mean. Who are you really? If only to sate my curiosity and to know why you’re willing to help me.” He tried to come off not as hard but more like curious. He was sure she was hiding something. She didn’t seem like your typical traveler. It just all seemed so off. And that hair color and this woman. It just all was on the tip of his tongue. |

She could see it in his eyes. He was puzzled, maybe even a bit entertained, by the thought that Kenna would soon be trekking through the desert with a small child. Kenna wondered at the incredulity of it as well, but what choice did she have? At that moment, her story she would tell him fell into place. "Tekun... I'm Sara. This is my daughter, Beckah." She would never reveal her identity to anyone. It wasn't safe. He began to remove his bandages and shirt. Her eyes widened slightly at the various wounds she found there. Elina would be in the way... she'd have to set her down and hope she didn't run off too far. She took Elina out of the sling and set her down next to Tekun. "Hold her hand, will you? I can't have her wandering off." It wasn't the best of situations but one year old children rarely stay where they're put. Kenna didn't have any bandages to replace his old ones, so she would have to clean them. She went to the well and drew up a bucket of water. She quickly washed the bandages as well as one could with just water. With an extra bucket she found lying around, she returned to Tekun and worked to clean the wounds. She created a paste of herbs and spread that over the wounds and quickly bandaged them up once more. "You'll want to have those bandaged with clean cloth as soon as possible." She sat back, pleased that Elina had simply sat back to stare at Tekun's face. She hadn't seen many scars in her short life and as was common with most small children, Elina stared at anything new and different. "Where do you travel to?" |

“A pleasure to meet you ‘Sara’.” He said it as if he knew full well she was concealing her identity. He didn’t buy it. She was lying. Inkling in the back of his head. It entertained him, so mysterious. Her and this little one. He extended his hand to the child and gently took it, she saw how she starred at him, with intrigue in her eyes. “I remembered how it was with my own child.” Tekun couldn’t have been that old. But the amount of scars, that look in his eye and the way he talked said otherwise. He looked back to Elina with a friendly gaze and nodded to her. “Little Becka, do you like my scars? Each one tells a story you know.” He laughed a little bit, friendly. “But those stories would likely be for when you are older.” He turned to Kenna whom was mixing it with herbs and bandaging. Tekun did not so much at wince at what must have been painful. He had a high pain tolerance, it was numbing. Throbbing. He could deal with it, it just made him uncomfortable. “Right. I’ve treated them before. Been a while since I took a beating. Pity it even had to have happened.” he said with slight sadness to his voice. “I’m traveling to Morrim. Seeking out someone whom is likely to assist me with a problem that has plagued me for centur-…years. Yes.” He stated as if it were a casual mistake. “What did I say?” He laughed. |

She was surprised at how gentle he was with Elina. He was a scarred man, obviously not unfamiliar with battle and fighting. It may have been some time since he had last been beaten as he was now but it still didn't erase the story written across his body: he was a fighter. But the way he looked at her daughter and held her so gently was in direct opposition of what she would have thought him to be. "You have a child? You can't be too much older than me - if at all. The little one must be young...?" She'd met stranger people in the world that he could have a child older than Elina. She smiled at his slip-up. "Centuries certainly would be quite a feat to still look so young. Even the Banshee King..." She stopped, knowing many hated the man she had come to hold dear. "Even he could not hold his youth without a glamour, you know. Pale and white." She shrugged. "If you are to be traveling along to Morrim I suppose little Beckah and I will be seeing you on the road. I would be happy to check your wounds on occasion if we happen to camp near one another..." Having someone who may be willing to offer a semblance of protection along the road would certainly relieve Kenna a good bit. "Although, I am a slow traveler with the little one." |

"Long ago…no longer though.“ There was sadness there, hint at family lost. He recalled it and how it was his own fault. He never did find the child but knew the fate of a former lover. He showed no emotion to it, his face utterly impassive. And then she mentioned him. The Banshee King, the way she talked so casually of him when that name would strike terror into even the boldest of warriors. “Actually that’s who I intend to find. If you can keep a secret. He isn’t such a bad guy. Believe it or not. Possibly misguided and a bit mad at times. Complicated, not everything is as reputations are. His and mine included.” He made no effort to hide that he was the Immortal Soldier, supposedly dead. But how would she know. He had no bounty in Angkar and little renown there save for tales. “I’ll keep an eye out for you if we are on the way. But it may not be for the best. I do not wish you ill, but when I am done with what I need to do. If you require my aid at any point, I will offer my service without a thought or charge.” He smiled warmly again. “I don’t know why. But you seem familiar to me. I can’t put my finger on it.” Incidentally Sara was the name of an ex lover. How odd he thought, he felt happy for once. But it was temporary. “I heal rather fast. So I won’t need to be checked up on. Treat it and be on the way.” |

"You have met the Banshee King? All say he is evil with no soul... my husband, he-" She stopped, not sure if she should mention him at all. "He had no good thought toward the wraith. But I often wonder, can a person be purely evil? No person is purely good - that is a readily accepted fact. It stands to reason that each person, however evil, would have some good in them. Would that not be worth exploring? Seeing if it could grow just as the evil in a good person could?" She was defending her former lover, but carefully - she hoped. Andromalius deserved someone to speak well of him, wherever he was. If she was the only one to do so, so be it. "You will be days ahead of us in just two days, I can assure you." She smiled down at Elina who had moved into her lap once she sat down. "This one slows me down quite a bit. I used to be fast..." She pursed her lips. "Familiar? You're not the first to tell me that, you know. Is there a woman running around who is well known and looks like me? Perhaps I could use that to my advantage." She grinned, hoping that she could throw the man off her trail. She was the woman running around who was well known. The former queen of Angkar was on the run - and speaking friendly of the Banshee King, no less. |

"Good people do evil things and evil people do good things. They have a right to do what they want, just as you have the right to strike them down for doing you harm. That my fair maiden is absolute freedom. That is the best way to describe him from my eyes. During the conquest I desired to know his reasoning for fighting and waltzed right into his tower. We fought and by chance of me mentioning the now High Inquisitor of Ashoka, Sophia Orjtarn, we stopped and had a talk and then I left. Second time I happened upon him by chance after Morrim`s revolution. He had mellowed quite a bit. Funny how things change." He smirked at her next remark, oh he had been in those shoes far too many times to not know that feeling. "I know. I mean...it`s like there`s always someone out there who looks exactly like you and far too often than not it turns out that person is you. It`s like the end of a really bizarre dream where you`re you and you`re not you." He gave a good laugh at that, it seemed utterly rediculous. Edited by Tekun, Dec 6 2011, 09:23 PM.

"Mellowed, hm?" She had found him pleasant enough when she traveled with him. Well, more than pleasant. If she were honest with herself, she missed him. He had accepted her, grief, anger and all, without question. Perhaps with a bit more cynicism than she had been accustomed to over the past several years, but she felt he had brought out the parts of her that she had buried long ago - the parts that were her true self, not the mask she'd made for herself as queen of Angkar. He mentioned Andromalius and Sophia as though he had met them for tea. They'd fought? But he glossed over that so quickly Kenna had to wonder - who would have been the victor? Surely not this mortal... Wheels turned in her mind and faces and names clicked. "T- Tekun?" She stood abruptly, holding Elina tightly. "You're - You're Tekun. One of the most wanted men in all the land. You're supposed to be dead. In fact, I could have sworn I had heard in the marketplace that the High Inquisitor herself had been responsible for your death..." Ah, how often had Kenna found herself at the end of a thought and realized she'd been speaking it rather than just thinking it. She backed away again, unsure of how he would react to her sudden knowledge of his identity, well probable identity. Maybe this guy was the doppleganger of the true Tekun that Kenna claimed to be of herself. But with the same name? And the scars were the same - at least the ones visible on his face. "I - I'm sorry. I won't tell, I swear it. Please, just let me and my daughter make it home..." |

“Please….don’t run.” Tekun asked calmly. He showed legitimate care in his eyes. He hadn’t moved an inch. “You’ll scare your daughter…please. Would you care to hear me out? You talk of there being kindness and goodness in the hearts of men, but when you look me in the eyes knowing who I am. You’re filled with such dread. My heart sinks.” Tekun frowned deeply. His eyes remained strong. “I won’t stop you from running, if that’s what you truly want…” Tekun hadn’t moved. He took a steadied breath. He kept eye contact. His hands nowhere near his sword. “You treated my wounds. For that I thank you…and yeah. Sophia Orjtarn supposedly slew me. Fell into a ravine after she stabbed me in the back. Should have seen that coming a mile away, rather I did see it coming and just didn’t act. Foolishness.” He grimaced as if swallowing something bitter. “I give you my word. I won’t hurt you or your daughter. I’m not a monster like they say.” Years of bloodshed, carnage. It seemed his reputation had caught up to him again as it had been recently. Popping in here and there. It was like it had been. He looked to the ground. No longer looking her in the eyes. He was glad he didn’t have that armor, it was hard enough to move with that aura and feeling. He wondered why she could talk so openly of the Banshee King without fear but after this. Who was she? |

She saw disappointment in his eyes - or perhaps it was just a reflection of how she felt about herself. She had just spoken of believing in the good in all men... and then how had she reacted? Poorly. Very poorly. She looked at him, feeling lower than she had since she first left Ildri. "I'm... I'm sorry." She became aware of Elina struggling to loosen her mother's grip on her. "Oh, baby- I'm sorry, princess." She set Elina down. Hadn't she just been traveling with a known assassin? She'd been desperate enough then to trust a woman who killed for a living - no matter what her official position with the Ashokan government said she was. Just what did an Inquisitor do other than ask questions...? A thought for another day, Kenna decided. "I usually trust my daughter's reactions to people. She does not take to someone who will most likely harm her." She remembered the teenager who had come across Elina in one of the towns she'd passed through. He had tried to drag her away when Kenna's back was turned. He'd seemed kind enough when she'd given him a coin for the directions he gave her. Elina's wail had saved her from being taken and ransomed. Kenna had realized that Elina had tried to get as far away from the boy as possible from the start. "I've met men - and women - who were called monsters. Some are... many aren't." She looked down at her boots as she toed at the dusty earth. "At least let me see you off. Truly, if we happen upon each other again, I will want to make sure you are healing nicely. Even you need someone to look after you. Everyone does..." Her voice faded, realizing that although Sophia had offered assistance, it would be too infrequent for Kenna to truly feel connected to anyone. |

“More than forgiven. Don’t lose sleep over this ‘Sara’.” Tekun still didn’t believe her. He took a deep breath again. “I appreci-” Tekun’s ears stood on end. “Trouble coming…” Tekun sensed it off. Someone meant him ill. He heard what sounded like a bunch of foot steps. He instinctively gripped his blade. Which fool was he going to cut down today. Suddenly the street rat whom tried to pick pocket came back with about 5 other men. Some bigger than him. One with a pipe, one with a wooden plank. The other with a…spatula? This was the danger he sensed? Tekun looked at them with a look that simply said. ‘You have got to be fucking joking.’ Part of him wanted to burst out into laughter. He guessed none of them could actually afford swords. They guessed he was just some big, wounded lug with a limp. “There’s the punk!” The man with a shoddily bandaged face said. Pointing at Tekun, his finger shaking. He was red and his eyes bared a furious rage. “That jerk! He busted my nose while I tried to make an honest living!” “This guy boss? He don’t look like much.” One bald dimwitted man spoke up. He squinted at Tekun. “Yeah! Teach ‘em a lesson in manners.” He looked to Tekun and then to Kenna. “Hey sweet cheeks. You and your baby doll betta’ get out of he-” He narrowed his eyes to her trying to think of where he saw her before. “Boss, we ain’t going to hit the perty lady are we?” Another with a mouth lacking teeth asked. “I dunno…seems fimiliar. Kenna reacted quickly as she spun around. Elina was huddled behind her, tripping over her own feet. Kenna wasn't sure when she'd drawn her bow or the arrow, but it was at the ready before she even knew it. "Tekun?" She spared the briefest of glances at him and then turned her full attention back to the pickpocket. The man's face was swollen and already beginning to bruise. the cut through his lip would certainly leave a scar. And the man needed no help in marring his appearance. He wasn't the most attractive of men. "Thank you for the compliment, sir." She nodded in a mock bow as she trained her arrow on the man they called boss. "But really, you should procure better methods of attack than that before cornering a man who took you down with only a boot." Did everyone know that there was an errant queen with the heir to Angkar running around Soare? Kenna would never escape if things continued this way. She'd have to put aside her mothering instincts and ignore the good samaritan in her if she were to reach Ashoka unnoticed and unharmed. "Leave, gentlemen, before I provide a more tangible incentive for you to take your asses back to shit pile you pulled them out of." Kenna prayed Elina wouldn't pick up her language. It would be her luck. The little tomboy that her daughter was becoming would more than likely have a mouth as foul as a sailor one day. She couldn't say why she felt the need to insult these men. Perhaps it was the stress that she carried. Or the danger that was suddenly too close to Elina than Kenna cared for. Either way, she hoped the men would leave them be... but really, why would they ever feel a woman - a young mother at that - would be even a small threat? |

The other men backed up. She had an bow and arrow drawn. They were at least a little bit drawn. One gave a very ugly nervous chuckle. “Listen lad’eh. We ain’t want no trouble. Just the jerk over there who busted bubzie’s nose.” He gave another chuckle, sweating and clearly nervous. None of them particularly wanted to take an arrow the knee. That would be horrible. The other man, the ugly one with the bruised up face glared. “Oi! You gotta quite a mouth on ya, that ain;t no way to be cussin’ in fronta your little on’” He about hissed. Tekun at this point had heard about enough, picked up a rock and threw it up and down like he were catching a ball. He whistled a little and then let out a loud one. It got the imbeciles attention. THWACK! “OWWWWWWWW!” He screamed as he held his head, drawing blood. Tekun had whipped him pretty good. Pelting him with the small stone. He had done some good restraining himself. There was a time where he would have just cut all of them down no question. “Shut up.” Tekun picked up a stone. “Go away. The lady doesn’t want you here. How dare you tell her how to raiser her kid you punk!” He tossed the stone up again. “Let’s see. Ten points if I hit the head. Fifty if I hit that nose. Let’s see if the bruising brings out the color in your eyes. Black on brown and white. That’s a pretty combo right?” He mused aloud not taking this man seriously at all. “OI! Do you know who I am! Brudda! I’m-UMPHFWAAAAAA!” He protested as the rock hit him square in the face again. Tekun looked around. He was running out of small stones. The other men simply looked more than a little nervous. The other woman still had a bow drawn. |

It pleased her the way the men backed up. Of course, having an arrow sent into your body wasn't exactly the most pleasant experience a person could have. Either way, it gave Kenna a bit of a thrill. Before she could enjoy the power she felt she had over the situation, while the ugly brutes kept talking, a rock flew threw the air and with a thunk, it hit it's mark. She smirked. He was a dangerous man and he was throwing small rocks. It made her think of fights between her brothers when they were young. "At least it's my mouth and not my soul that's dirty. An honest living? Please - you're a thief." She nodded to Tekun. "Do your best to hit your mark, good sir. I'll clean up whatever mess is left..." Her bow had been lowered slightly but with her threat, she raised it up, holding it level and pointing it straight at the man who led this ragtag bunch of losers. "In most countries, you'd lose your hand for that. I think I'm being a bit merciful by only making you a pincushion for my arrows, don't you think?" Elina was a smart girl, she still hid behind Kenna, but would occasionally peek out from behind her leg. "If you're out of rocks, check the little one's pockets... and her mouth. She tends to shove everything in her mouth." Kenna rolled her eyes. Oh yes, her daughter was quite the little stinker. |

The man turned a vibrant red, Tekun motioned the little one over to him. “Come here sweetie. I need to see if you have any rocks on you, so I can throw them at the funny looking man over there.” Sure enough she complied and found one. “Ah! And who do you think you are missy! You ain’t nothing’ but a stinking C-UUUUUUUUUGHGHGHHAAAAAA” He held his mouth and spat, blood ran from it. Tekun couldn’t help but chuckle and he was sure the funny sounds this man was making were more than amusing. For once violence felt fun. “Um…Boss. We’re goin’ now. You have fun ‘der with your lady friend.” They began making their way out, quickly. One without a pig looking face whom had remained quiet throughout the entire scuffle waved timidly. “Bye!” He mustered from his mouth. “OH! You’re a weak one! Yella’ you’re all yel-AAAAAH!” Tekun clocked him with another rock he scooped up, this time in the back of the head. He held it as he stumbled forward. It was probably a miracle this man was even conscious. Too stubborn to fall over. “Will you just go already?” Tekun insisted. “Before the fair maiden shoots you in the eye. You won’t be getting up from that.” The man grumbled and held his mouth, his eyes watering before he finally trotted away. He dripped a slight trail of blood. Splatters here and there. Tekun sighed. “Well…that was certainly interesting. If not more than a little bit amusing.” |

Kenna chuckled, watching the men file away slowly and quietly. It was as if they worried sudden movements would set her off and they'd end up with an arrow in their back. She smirked. Oh, it was good to see the look some men made with an arrow pointed at them. Fear, a bit of respect, and wariness. Someone reacted that way, anyway. The boss of them didn't seem to take a hint at all. He failed to pass out and it wasn't until he was finally alone that he recognized the situation for what it was - impossible for him to win. She nodded after he left and quietly put her bow and arrow away before turning and pulling rocks from Elina's hands and picking the girl up. "Tekun... This has been enough excitement for the little one - myself included. You're certain your injuries will not bother you?" She looked him over. "If not... I fear it is time for us to take our leave and move on. We've drawn enough attention to ourselves as it is. If we slip away quickly we may not have to face those villains again. She motioned with her head to where the thieves had left. "It was... a pleasure... to meet you - the real you. Not the version that is spread in rumors." |

"I’ll recover fine, don’t you fret about that, but…before you go. I have one request. You’re a good woman in need…I know you’re running from something. I won’t pry, I won’t beg for it. You may even say I’m silly and just over thinking it due to simple paranoia. But, who are you really? While we’re alone for sure. I give you my word that it won’t leave my lips.“ He mentioned it, wanting to know just what she was up to. It ate at him, just enough for him to ask. He didn’t know if he would even be humored. “And thank you…it means a lot for someone to not flee and judge. I won’t be in hiding for much longer. You’ll see me surface again, with a new life if all things go according to how I desire. After I’ve gotten my act together, maybe I’ll seek you out? See if I can help your situation any.” Tekun smiled. “Oh…and before you go.” Tekun removed his coin purse. “Shrista might complain to me about this. But after so many years of hoarding gold, you make catches. I think I have one around here somewhere. But. You’ll need this more I take it. Should keep you set on that for quite a while. Go on. Take it. Consider it payment for treating me if that’s what you want to do.” He gave another warm smile. |

She nodded slowly. A request? Few would ask such a boon of a woman traveling alone - unless it was in payment of some service they had rendered. But in this case, she was the one who had offered her services. "You truly wish to know?" She closed down from him, her face revealing nothing. "I'm someone you should forget the moment I leave you. You never spoke with me, you never saw me. I was never even on this road. I'm someone who runs from more than a man, from a future - or the future that I've ruined." She raised her eyebrow in a challenge. Would he stick to his promise and not pry? If he were smart enough... He would find her clue. And what was he thinking? He offered her money - not more questions. She took it from him, now more confused than ever. The stories about him were grossly wrong if what she had seen today were to play into them. A man without mercy. Well, this was more than mercy. It was generosity! First, he'd held Elina's hand much the way one would hold a delicate flower. Then he didn't just kill the thieves that threatened them. He'd let them go - although Kenna suspected that if they returned the would not be so lucky. "Thank you, Tekun." She put the gold into the larger pack she carried with her, tucked in next to the other satchel of gold she carried. That was Angkaran gold - which could certainly draw attention in this area. "If people ever speak of you, I will give my own story of a man who helped a lone woman and her child on the road. Your name will not always be whispered as a curse - this I swear." She bowed then and turned to go. She reached the gate that hid them from view and turned back. "When you resurface, please be sure to return what is mine." Before he could say anything, she was gone, Elina in hand. As she walked toward the road, her pack a bit heavier because of his generosity - this would pay for a horse and more supplies to get them to their new home - and smiled. She had not known who he was, had even had a momentary panic when she learned his true identity... but her subconscious had known more than she realized. His bandages had been added to by her simple, square handkerchief. The last bit of herself that would identify her should she be caught. It was now on a man who would not reveal that he was living for at least a few weeks. He would find it, she had no doubt. It was embroidered simply "Kenna Evermore." |
