A small column of men wound their way through the Stratera rainforest, cutting a path through the thick vegetation. The sun climbing to reach its peak, those in the rainforest bellow, could not see with only the filtered sunlight coming through the canopy, but it was most likely the eleventh hour of the day. The air was humid and sticky, and the air hummed with the sound of insects as the whirled around the intruders. A cacophony of sound of all types of animal noises; exotic birds, cats, monkeys, and all assortment of rainforest animals. Tahldon swung his machete cutting the branch out of the pathway, he glanced back surveying the small column. In the front a few mercenaries and street thugs, worked to cut a path through the forest for his servants leading the packhorses. A mage-smith and two miner, walked with the packhorses. Tahldon was wearing a leather armour all over his body a quiver and sword strapped to his back, his unstrung bow and spear where with the packhorses. His machete could be sheathed at his belt, but most of the time it was in constant motion cutting a path, he could have just let the others to do this or even hired a sedan chair to be taken into the rainforest, but he though that was pointless, plus he didn't mind exerting himself. Two nights ago a falling star crashed somewhere into the Stratera rainforest, a few merchants and nobles had rushed to send their claim on the meteorite, looking for precious materials, specifically Starmetal. A virtually indestructible and magical metal that can only be found on fallen meteorites. Aldrian Holdren, a famous elven Mage-Smith had been commissioned by Tahldon to craft him some weapons and armour of his best craftwork, specifically a longsword. Having his own weapons and armor being quite weak and destroyed and many an occasion. Aldrian told him that his best works and his most powerful works where created out of Starmetal when it could be found. Aldrian had used all of his Starmetal that he had acquired, and told Tahldon he would gladly make him craft him some items, but he would need to find Starmetal first. So now Tahldon is navigating his way through the rainforest planning to harvest the ore and bring it back to his estate. Tahldon glanced upward through the foliage, measuring by what he could see he saw that it was around noon and time for them to take a break. "Time for lunch, and small rest!" His servants started to order themselves hobbling the horses, rubbing them down, and handing out food. Tahldon received some bread, cheese, and dried fish. Munching on it as he sttled himself down on a root sticking out of the jungle floor. He watched the men plop themselves down eating, and a few even falling a sleep after, though why they even wasted there time when they would be woke in a few minutes. Tahl finished his food picking his way through the seated mercenaries, makeing his way to Aldrian, who had taken out the map and who had been in charge of navigateing. Tahldon had spent much of his younger life within this rainforest, but even he could not navigate the twisting ways of the jungle. He could probably have moved faster by himself, but he would have needed the someone or something to carry the meteorite away, thus the horses. "We should be there in an hour or so." Aldrian said without looking up, as Tahl reached him. Tahl nodded, he had gotten use to the old elf's sixth sense. "I will move ahead and secure the metorite. You follow behind as fast as you can without killing the men." Aldrian nodded, he had gotten use to Tahl's adventures spirit. After Tahl directed the mercenary leader and his steward to do as he said to Aldrian. Grabbing his spear and stringing his bow he hung the latter on his back, and climbed up a tree like a cat. Once high up in the trees he started to make his way towards the crash sight a excited smile on his face. |

The earth here was warm, leaves barely crackling under her bare feet as she padded through the trees, her palm gracing the trunk of the nearest fondly, the bark rough against her alabaster skin, tinged green with the light cast through the canopy above. Deliciously warm, bringing with it a wave of lethargy again, brief, pushed aside. So many interesting scents and sounds, the crushed foliage underfoot, the pollen of plants still flourishing even this late in the season and underlying scent of decay. Her small delicate feet left little marks of crystal, glittering in the scant light like ice, before they gradually cracked and disappated, coating the carpet of dead leaves and branches like frost, the barest scent of wild lemongrass and pine trailing after her, of trees unfamiliar to this place. Animals chattered and cawed, shrieked and chittered, following through the branches overhead, or flashing past in bright bursts of color, unafraid of the gentle presence, almost reverent in their approach, sensing something greater, though diminished. Her eyes shone, drinking in the light and reflecting it back like burnished gold, the gentle tinkle and hollow clatter of her hair ornaments mingling with the general hubbub of the forest. Not quite fitting. Akira knew the column of strange people had seen her. She also didn't care. She'd been careless in letting them know she was here, too wholly focused on the collection of the plants she sought for her alchemical products. She wasn't about to harm them, should they leave well enough alone. The trees were unfamiliar, tropical. They whispered as she passed, though they felt different to the touch, troubled as a disturbing force sliced through their heart to get at something equally fearsome, something that had careened into the rainforest and dragged its own trail of death. Yes, she'd seen it, the lump of rock, she'd also seen the burnt and shattered denizens left in its wake, a trail of destruction that gave rise to an ache deep in her chest of shared loss. After seeing that, her quest for medicinal plants was near forgotten, and she had stayed to say the rites and send the souls of the trees back to the earth, that they might grow back swiftly. It was strange there now, quiet, and so bright with the gaping rent in the canopy over the grove. She hunkered down on the scarred earth, her fingertips resting for balance as she monitored the growth. It was there, but small, unformed yet. Not so around the rock. The rock that she herself did not like to touch. She padded around it with her loping wolfish strides, face unreadable as she peered at it, hesitantly reached out and laid a palm on the rough surface. Truesilver. Star metal. She'd had a pendant of it, once. A long, long time ago. A crescent moon, but it was gone now. Gone with her Companion, back to the mud. Grief etched her face for a moment and she lowered her head, one hand still resting on the warm rock, the plants around it already shooting, and if one were to watch very carefully, they might be able to see them creeping oh-so-slowly upwards, tiny green tendrils reaching for the life-giving sunshine. |
