SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

WHAT IS ELENLOND?

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

    Cricket
if love is a labor I'll slave 'til the end

When Alexandros finally spoke Cricket opened her eyes, another tear or two falling on his face. “J-just me.” She told him softly, hardly feeling like an angel at that moment, though she managed a weak little smile as her thumb slid against his hand the way it had before take off. “You’re alright...” She spoke as if amazed, sniffling a little as she lifted her hand from his to wipe away more tears with the back of her hand.

As he watched, the wound on her face healed itself the same way his cuts and scrapes had. Her red eyes were glassy still, but they closed and she leaned down, kissing him quickly on the lips. She didn’t think about it, the action simply happening in response to the way the ache in her chest had been replaced but spirit-lifting solace. It just felt like the right thing to do. Hugo’s head was cocked sideways, fascinated, but he moved forward and nosed Alexandros’ hair when Cricket withdrew.

<You aren’t allowed to die, I’m not hungry.> he mocked the man, his version of concern, but blinked as Cricket spoke, “W-was it my fault?” It seemed like a silly question but she couldn’t keep from asking it. The guilt in reality came from the fact that she had seen this accident before, her little premonition at his side having gone forgotten, dismissed as merely deja vu.

Upon hearing his words at least a little more relief ebbed into her body, that lighthearted wise crack, even spoken in pain, definitely assured her that he wasn’t in unbearable agony. She looked at his face and the corners of her lips twitched, but did not turn up again. Cricket just pulled him up a bit more and insisted, “Don’t worry about me, I’m fine...” She was shaking a little still and she gave him body a small, gentle squeeze in her arms, as if to reassure herself that he was still there, still breathing.

“You’re going to be okay right? Alex I’m so sorry...” She apologized again and just shook her head, unable to to sooth her racing heart while Hugo’s ears laid back a bit and he moved down, licking Alexandros’ hand with an urgent sigh. Cricket glanced down at the mangled limb and then looked up at Arella, “C-can you get me the bandages from the skimmer?” She looked half heartedly at the wreckage and then back at Alexandros.

    "Mm...yeah, mostly. I'll be fine."
The trickle of a salty tear running over his cheek tickled, and he twitched, as if doing so might make it stop. Before he could tell her not to fret, soft lips were on his, fleeting, then gone again, his face frozen in surprise, relaxing into a lopsided grin.
"Well now I have all the strength I'll ever need."

I'm still not sure I'm not already dead, this seems a nice enough little heaven.

The grin was fixed now, refusing to move, even throughout the little niggling voice reminding him that if ever any form of religious afterlife was real he wouldn't be going upwards. He simply swatted it aside, ignoring it. Nothing was about to dampen his spirits just yet. Well, almost.

"Your fault? Of course not! It was going fine until...I didn't even think birds would do that. I thought I'd taken every eventuality into account...no, if anyone should be apologizing it's me- Arella will you stop staring? It's giving me the chills."

The woman started, dragging her gaze away from his hand as Hugo began licking at it, her face pale, simply nodding without question or snappy retort and heading towards the wrecked skimmer.
Alex's smile faltered at the request, his eyes flitting from Crickets' to Hugo.
    "..What? Why are you apologiz-"
His eyes flicked down to his hand, still clasped in hers, and slowly disentangled it, lifting it before his face, his own grey orbs widening in shock. It had throbbed with pain, but he hadn't even imagined...
The smallest digit and half of the one next to it were simply..gone, leaving his hand a bloody mess, though it wasn't bleeding thanks to her healing. For a moment he felt displaced, staring at it incredulously.

That's not my hand. That's not 'my' hand. Is it? Oh...Light.

He dropped it back onto his chest, face now expressionless, though his eyes said plenty enough, releasing a small drawn out breath. Tight, a little fearful, disbelieving, his voice sounded hoarse to his own ears. This was in some ways, worse than the shrapnel incident.
    "Cricket?"
He already guessed the fate of the skimmer, or near enough what must be left of it now. That could be rebuilt...this however...he wasn't sure he could do that, and that in itself made his resolve and confidence waver.
He gave another shaky smile, half hearted and nowhere near genuine.
"It's alright...just a finger and then some...do you think I'll be able to play piano still?"
At that point Arella came back hauling the contents of the Skimmer and dropped them onto the ground, sorting through until she found the small leather satchel of medical supplies, handing it to Cricket wordlessly, her face stony.

if love is a labor I'll slave 'til the end

His smile did wonders to lighten her spirits- it was as if he didn’t realize the bloody mess his hand had become. She just swallowed the lump in her throat and tried to smile back, taking his comment as a good sign towards their future and his well being. She nodded as he explained at the birds and murmured as Arella first set off towards the wreckage, “Birds can be surprising, I got attacked by crows once when I was small.”

When he lifted his hand she felt her stomach do flip flops, watching his expression with her own pained and concerned. Hugo informed the other through telepathy, <It doesn’t feel so terrible as it looks because of Persephone. I’ll explain it another time.> He whined a little though at the tone of Alexandros’ voice.

Cricket looked at the hand that the engineer held before his face, her bangs were in her eyes and the mask had slipped ever so slightly, just the edge of a scar visible as she put her hand on his arm, near his elbow, and slid it up slowly until their palms pressed together again. “Of course you’ll still be able to play. I-It might be a bit different at first but remember when it rained? You played with one hand so I could..uhm... hold the other. By comparison, just losing a finger... or two ...will be easy.”

She took the bandages from Arella and the salve, setting to work quickly. She shifted him so he was propped more with his back against her chest, looking over his shoulder with her arms around him. After she was content that the wound was clean she began to wrap the linen around his wounded hand. Her head tilted against his a bit as she finished and she wove her fingers with his, whispering quietly, “Don’t worry, Alex..”

Hugo stood with a sigh and trotted away, nosing the sands a bit, as if scenting for something before he kept moving about, icy eyes surveying the dunes for something. Cricket pulled him into another firm hug, pressing the side of her face against his from the angle. She was too relieved to care about Arella, or to worry about being silly, “I’m so happy you’re okay.” Her face was a little red but she closed her eyes, giving him a small squeeze even as she held his mangled hand in her own. Against his back her heart was finally slowing to an acceptable pace, slow and steady.

He nodded a little at Hugo's brief explanation, knowing that he'd ask later, if he could remember. No doubt it'd crop up at a completely inconvenient time, as such things did. He found his gaze drawn to the edge of the mask on her face as she bowed her head, curious, and a little shameful as he considered his behavior. Losing a finger was nothing, really. Still, the sinking feeling as he'd looked at it, came back again, the thought of what his uncle would say...not so much say as do, likely he'd get a smack over the head with the cane. That bought a slight ironic twist to his lips, though it faded as Cricket pressed her palm against his again. The fact she wasn't afraid to look at it lifted his spirits a little. It wasn't so bad, really.

"That's true. It'll just be like...learning again. I should thank you. If you weren't here...well, I'd probably be in a worse state."

Arella turned and began to stalk off at that, snapping over her shoulder that she was going to get the horses, leaving deep imprints where her feet sank and then kicked sand out again.
"I'm sorry...for all of it, you know? Most especially Arella. I've never seen her act like that around anyone before. Normally she's so good tempered, friendly." He trailed off, wincing as Cricket shifted him so that she could tend to his hand, resting against her. A faint tinge colored his cheeks a moment, then faded, thoughts wandering again as he watched Hugo nosing at the sand.

With his free hand he reached back over his shoulder, brushing fingers against her jaw, staring vaguely towards the wreck of the wreck of the skimmer with an unreadable look.
"Thank you Persephone. You're too good to me...I'll have to thank you properly sometime. Maybe when all my limbs are in the correct places eh?" He chuckled, gaze focusing again as he glanced towards Hugo, grinning slightly.
"I promise...I won't do anything dangerous next time? At least nothing that will explode, or crash, or ignite, or sever pieces of us..."

Maybe I'll make something to explode entire flocks of birds.

“Why? It’s not so bad. I’m sure I have nothing to do with it, you’re just tough.” Cricket insisted when he spoke of being in a worse state. She glanced up as Hugo returned finally with Cricket’s hip flasks held gingerly in his powerful jaws, but he merely trotted after Arella, his tail swaying as he glanced over his shoulder at the too resting in the sand.

Cricket shook her head a little, not speaking until she’d finished bandaging him up and finally just murmuring, “None of this is your fault so don’t worry so much.” She smiled a bit, but it weakened a bit, and she explained lightly, “Arella just thinks I’m competition or something. As if! anyone with eyes could see...” She heaved a sigh, “She’s much prettier than me.” Her eyes had darkened a little at the comment but she gave him another little squeeze to make herself feel better. It didn’t work so much as she’d hoped, but his fingertips trailing against her face did.

She closed her eyes and leaned her face a little against his fingertips, sighing before her eyes fluttered open and she turned her face a bit, looking at him. “You used my real name...” She was a little surprised, not used to the name, but she continued on with a soft laugh, “What exactly is a ‘proper thanks’?”

She stood finally and pulled Alexandro’s up, almost falling over herself in the process and looking up at him. “Can you walk?” She asked, looking only slightly up at him due to their similar heights. Her face reddened a little, but she quickly looked down and fixed her mask, fumbling a bit to tighten it back into place, hiding ever inch of the deformity she hoped he’d never see.

“How long will it be, do you think, before I get to see you again? It’s pretty obvious your cousin has had enough of me...” She looked a bit sad now, holding his bandaged hand in her own and meeting his eyes again. A breeze tugged black strands back into her eyes and she looked down, brushing them away again and then gazing over at the skimmer’s wreckage, the sail all wrapped around a palm tree. It was a sad sight, but she did nod “Next time I don’t want you to lose any limbs... but you shouldn’t give up on the Skimmer, it’s an amazing idea. You’re really brilliant.” her eyes found their light as she looked back into his and just smiled.

"Competition? So that's what she meant.."
The comment about her mother being displeased struck him again and he scowled, already imagining the two women with their heads together, planning things. They may be distantly related, but they were still, at the end of the day, relatives.
"She has another thing coming if she thinks I'm going to accept that."
Crickets' sigh drew his attention back to the present and he cast her a faintly incredulous look over his shoulder.
"You don't really believe that, do you?"

As she helped him to his feet, more dragging him upright really, sand showering out of his coat, he grunted, massaging the shoulder a bit. It had popped out again and he'd have to remedy that soon enough, peering under the edge of his shirt he took mental note of the mottled bruising there already rising.
"A proper thanks is whatever you deem sufficient."
He prodded at the shoulder, wincing a little then turned his gaze back to Cricket, flicking to the tree beside them as she fixed her mask, considering it.

If I hit it hard enough it might pop back in. Gotta be less painful that using a vice to screw it back...

The physician had done that last time, after Orl'Kabbar, chatting away merrily the whole time while Alex bit down on the leather, thinking he might just snap it in half in the process.
Cricket taking his hand again snapped him out of the rather painful thoughts of how to screw an arm back into a socket. He was a person, not a machine, with thoughts and feelings. Physicians were simply engineers of the human body.
One eyebrow rose, the corners of his mouth tugging upwards in a sardonic smile as he looped one arm around her waist, pulling her close, murmured, "Fuck her, I don't care," and tilted his head, pressing his lips against hers, still holding her hand in his now incomplete one.

A slight clearing of the throat interrupted the moment as Spot whinnied cheerfully from the top of the dune, making that low nickering sound as though he found it all highly amusing. The woman standing a cautious distance from him however, did not.
"If you're quite finished playing the romantic hero..."
Alex smirked, waved his bandaged hand at them.
    "Not quite. One more minute."
He dodged as an apple flew past his head, laughed and released Cricket to stoop and pick it up, wobbling a bit as a wave of dizziness hit him, then straightened up again.
    "I believe you dropped this."

“But you don’t know what I look like.” There was a sad look in Cricket’s eyes as she murmured it, but it was the truth. At least one third of her face was covered in thick brown leather, the likes of which she had no intention of ever removing in his presence. She watched him as they stood, her hand still holding his and he seemed to be seriously contemplating something, and she was quiet a moment before she decided lightly, “Then proper thanks is...taking me somewhere else I’ve never seen.” Her smiled brightened a but as she informed him of his debt but was quickly distracted from trying to figure out what he was trying to figure out. She tried to examine his shoulder as well, seeming a bit alarmed, “Is your shoulder hurt, too?”

She was silenced as his arm crept around her and his words made her laugh weakly before their lips met again. She closed her eyes, enjoying it, face red when they separated she kissed him on the cheek then covered her smiling mouth with her hand, a little shy. The crimson painted across her nose, on both cheeks and on the very tips of his ears.

She looked at Arella, shrugging her shoulders a bit when he knelt to pick up the apple and she laughed some, happy to see that Alexandros was back making jokes so soon. Her heart felt light and Hugo just sort of nudged the engineers leg and then moving around to beg for scratches behind the ear from Cricket. She indulged him and asked, “So do I get to spend more time with you or are you just taking me home?”

She had started moving, stumbling in a sad way in the sand but she would try and support her friend as best she could, just moving up towards Spot. Hugo walked beside them as well, having an easier time in the sand though he said, <Remember, you promised if she gets hurt I get to eat your flesh.> Once they made their way up the hill Cricket pet Spot with her free hand, glancing up at the saddle but she didn’t seem nearly as anxious this time, looking back, “Are you okay to ride?”

"I think I need a physician to put my shoulder back in. I'm sure he'll be pleased to see this is the second time this month I've managed to pull it out..."
He cast Cricket a grateful look as they used each other as a mean of support. He didn't feel too bad, to tell the truth, except for the dizzy spell just then.

Offering the apple to Spot, Alex twisted his mouth as he looked the beast up and down, glancing at the frosty-faced woman standing beside the other horse, Gunpowder.
"Could you unhitch him for me? I can't do it with...with..you know."
He glanced down at the bandaged hand, his eyes skipping away from it again, unwilling to look too long at it until he felt he could focus long enough without the thought of how this was going to sit with his work.

    It'll be fine.

Arella nodded slowly, unclasping the leather thong he'd used earlier to restrain Spot to the side of the wagon through a metal hoop fastened on the side, deftly untying the knot and letting it fall free as she clambered up onto the seat of the cart and took the reins for the dappled mare, turning a faintly amused gaze on the pair as Alex puzzled the best way to actually mount the steed.
"I'll stay a while, if you want. I bought food out here for a midday meal but...it's best we don't linger. We can take it elsewhere."
He began placing the few items that had been packed into the craft and deposited again on the sand into the saddlebags, taking a moment to work the waterskin open with his teeth, then drinking from it, before offering it to Cricket.

After a moment he nodded to himself, his cousin began turning the wagon around and heading back towards the road. Alex cast one last reluctant look at the wrecked craft still buried in the sand and shook his head.
    "Down, Spot."
The big warhorse clumsily knelt and he climbed up using his uninjured arm, awkwardly sitting astride, then using the same hand to help Cricket clamber up too. Getting to his feet again the big roan snorted, and guided by the engineer's knees turned after the retreating cart, taking them with him.

Cricket’s eyes had gotten a little wide as he mentioned his shoulder needing put back in place, it sounded terrible, the mere thought of it making her worry a bit even as she reached out to rest on Spot, giving him a fond little pat, “You have to be nice.” She told him seriously as Alexandros fed him the apple. She was fond of the typically wicked equestrian, but her eyes glanced sideways at the warhorses owner instead.

“Of course I want you to stay.” She told him, a little of her shyness creeping back now that there was no flood of relief to override her insecurity. SHe pulled at the mask, fidgetting with the buckle to make sure it would stay in place on the ride home. Hugo had disapeared to the sands once more, b] <If I find your fingers can I eat them?[/b] Came the mutt’s telepathy, nosing about around the crash and scenting the sands for blood.

The coffin builder took the water skin and she drank eagerly. It had not occured to me in the heart of the terror but now she was acutely aware of her dry mouth and empty stomach. She took another thirsty gulp before she passed it back, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. “Thank you.”

Cricket’s eyes strayed to see what held Alexandros gaze but turned back to spot as the animal knelt rather gracelessly. She watched him climb up, and spoke as he did so, “You can rebuild it, right?” She held onto him, trying to be careful of his shoulder as she found her way into the saddle again. Her back rested lightly against his chest. She didn’t immediately search for something to grip. She did, however, when the horse found its way back onto its feet and she reached to take hold of his wrist.

“Can I hold the reins?” She asked with a note of uncertainty, feeling like it was a silly request but assuming since their mouths had just been pressed together he would humor her silly requests. She rested her head against him as they road and Hugo followed, lagging behind, holding something in his mouth with an innocent look in his big icy blue eyes.

I don't expect I can sew them back on so..I guess so?

The thought of his severed fingers made him shudder a little, to be exact, how was he to carry them and preserve them until someone could reattach them, and then how could they work correctly again? It was a little daunting.

Glancing back at the Skimmer as they trotted away, the engineer gave a slight nod, face thoughtful.
"I should think so. I have the schematics...anyone that finds it there won't be able to use it anyway. Maybe I'll make some improvements next time before I build it."
It seemed rather sad, half covered and abandoned with one of the sails still flapping, tangled around the tree. A ship in a sea of sand.

"Of course. Just pull when you want him to stop. Flick if you want him to go. Don't worry about directing him, I got it."
He tapped his leg lightly, then passed her the reins, Spot's ears flicking back and forth as if he were listening to the exchange.
Alex released the leather into her hands then wrapped his free arm around her waist, half the passenger now than the driver, but more to give Cricket the sense of security than anything else. By the way she grabbed at his arm, she was still uncomfortable being up here, and he didn't exactly mind either, allowing his mind to wander on thoughts of the days events and how soon he might rebuild his flyer. It helped a little with the dizziness too, though he'd experienced it stooping down to get the apple, it was better when he stopped. Now he was stationary but still moving, the world was spinning gently, lurching from side to side with the horse's gait.
He caught a glimpse of Hugo from the corner of his eye and slowly turned to look, then turned back again, unwilling to focus on whatever the hound was carrying.

    I don't want to know.
