SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

If I had a world of my own everything would be nonsense.

The rough deer path was strewn with swords and daggers, a gauntlet here, a shield there. A large, old looking wagon was turned on its side, little song-birds perched on the wheel, tweeting and grooming, completely disregarding the fresh blood that tainted the serenity of that wild place. All across the path it stained yellow leaves red, smeared across the earth as if something-someone- had been pounced on. And there she was, laying in a mess of her own drying blood, storring awake as a few pale rays of sunshine fell across her face. Her chest heaved with a deep, shaky breath- her gray eyes flew open, and a scream shattered the silence. The birds took flight in a panic- the same panic she still felt, heaving herself off the ground and instantly wishing she hadn’t.

Her left arm- her whole shoulder was like one big open wound. Leaves and dirt were ground in where she had been thrown to the Earth. Her heart pounded in her chest just remembering the attack- the claws, the teeth, the wild eyes of the immense wolf who had thrown the carriage on its side and abandoned pursuit of the horses in favor of eating her up. She pulled herself up on her shaking legs, looking around. Her legs ached, one of her ankles twisted but thankfully not broken.

“Make sure you stop before dark, it’s dangerous!” She could already see the disappointment in her father’s face, she could already smell ... everything. She blinked, looking around, what was that smell? As the fog of unconsciousness left her senses she felt strange, only aware of every sound in the forest, but even more aware of the splitting pain from the wounds all over her small body. She reached over and touched her gory arm, flinching she brought it up to touch her face, finding a cute she couldn’t see: A huge three clawed slash across her entire visage.

She stumbled away from the cart, clutching her arm to her side as she ventured further down the path. By horse it was three days to the next town- how was she ever going to make it on foot, with no supplies, the smell of her blood beckoning every carnivore nearby? Hoping against hope someone was near she stopped and yelled, amazed by the volume of her own shaky cry, “S-someone help!” She frowned when she heard no immediate response and limped on, unaware of the horrible truth about what had attacked her.

The lone angel's route at the moment was an aimless one, though he did have the general destination in mind of reaching some sort of town. He had been told about the mountains by a traveler he'd happen to cross paths with earlier after once again making his way down the Kaadian Way. The traveler had convinced him that if he were looking for something different than just plains and varying types of flatland, a place that might be a bit dangerous, but also held some beauty in its own right, was the Do'suul Mountains in Morrim. And so that was where he had headed, and where he was now, lost and a little ways away from the path he had originally came down, but none too concerned about it.

Vangelis had just made his way past the tree line into an open area where the view of Morrim's countryside almost made him gasp in awe. However, as he was drinking in the visuals, the angel's ears perked at the sound of what he assumed to be some kind of shrill cry. From his random location off the beaten path he couldn't be sure whether it belonged to a person, or just some kind of animal. Regardless, it drew him to turn his head back towards the way he originated, his eyes at first staring past the arrangement of tree trunks before shifting upwards just in time to catch sight of a flurry of birds taking off through the canopy. The angel's brow furrowed as a bit of concern touched his nerves; clearly something had spooked the creatures and that was rarely a sign of anything good to come.

Unable to justly ignore such circumstance, the male began back towards the road, following the two general signs that had been made out to him. His pace at the moment, while short of running, was a steady jog, his footsteps light and divinely graceful which made it easy to traverse the ground despite the variety of rocks and fallen branches.

At first, his mind tried to spin the situation, attempting to look on the more positive possibilities; that this was just some random animal making some random loud sound just because it could. At least if that was the case, he would only look silly for being concerned needlessly. However, shortly into his return trek, that positive spin was shattered as the loud, desperate and clearly human voice of another cut through nature's silence. With that, the hairs on the back of his neck began to stand on end and he found his jaw setting tightly with apprehension as the speed of his movements increased.

It was only a few short minutes after this second scream for help that he finally broke through to the other side of the trees where the road was, the scene of destruction filling his fiery gaze and causing his eyes to widen in silent surprise. Vangelis sucked in a breath before shouting a surveying "Hello!?, his suddenly narrowed gaze sweeping the general area.

His focus immediately zoned in on the small, almost dwarfish figure of a person, a survivor of whatever tragedy had befallen the previously horse-drawn cart. Without wasting time, he rushed to close the distance between himself and the survivor, calling out to them to turn around as he moved to their side. Crouching low so that they could lean upon him if need be, he reached out an arm to attempt to steady them. There was no reason to ask if they were alright; by the looks of things they clearly weren't. Instead he attempted to calm them, his voice serene and comforting. "Don't worry, you'll be fine..."

Vangelis tapped into his angelic powers then, his touch allowing Holy energies to begin to flow from his hands and through the person, to mend what wounds he could, and help to lessen whatever pain they were experiencing. "I'm here to help. Are you alone? Is anyone else injured?"

If I had a world of my own everything would be nonsense.

Jack’s heart was in her ill-fitting shoes as she trudged down the path, clutching her arm to her body and looking around in an almost paranoid fashion. She could feel it, something was approaching her- probably some huge grizzly bear or a puma or something else with big teeth and taste for human flesh! Her steps grew quicker, limping as fast as she could down the pathway. Something stirred in some yellow-leaved shrubbery on the side of the road, making her freeze, holding her breath and finally take a few hurried steps backwards. From the bush leapt a harmless little bunny, its shiny black eyes examining her briefly before he leapt away.

She exhaled the breath that had caught in her throat, bringing the hand of her undamaged arm up to her mouth. She was shaking a little, partly due to blood loss and partly due to the fear she felt for her peaceful woodland surroundings. Why was everything so loud? Every smell so strong? A shout that echoed around the trees distracted her from her rationalizations, making her turn in time to see something rushing through the trees towards her. Her heart started to pound in her chest, “A-Aaah!” she managed to yell, turning to try and bolt away of whatever terrible beast was about to finish the job the wolf had started.

Her foot caught an upraised root, and just as his arm curled around her Jack was sent sprawling to the ground again. She took no time to recover from the fall as she crab-crawled backwards, brandishing her dagger with her shaky hand and opened her mouth to scream- only then did she realize that she was scampering away from a person. She stared up at him, mouth still agape as she tried to wrap her brain around truth of the situation. Her trembling hand dropped the dagger and she covered her face, all the adrenaline letting way to a wave of tears that spilled down her dirty face.

“I-I think I’m dying!” She told the man who had rushed to her aid, looking up at him as she clutched the wounded limb once more. She was only fifteen, after all, she had never experienced such a large and painful wound so, as ridiculous as the statement sounded she fully believed it was true. “I-I lost the horses and the swords and-” She sobbed, voice becoming incoherent as she struggled to regain her composure, pulling herself up. Were her voice not so blatantly female it would be easy to think she was a boy; baggy clothes, clunking boots, black hair cut short at uneven lengths. Her lips were full, the lower one quivering as she stood there, staring at the man with wide tear-filled eyes, “A-a big wolf attacked me last night and now I don’t know what to d-do.” She managed to sum up, still fighting to calm her breathing and slow her pounding heart.

Neither of them were aware of how terrible the situation could have turned had she remained afraid a fraction longer.

The confused and frantic survivor of the accident slipped away from his grasp before he could do anything to help them. Unperturbed by this, Vangelis just continued to try and calm them down, watching as they wildly brandished a dagger at him. His arms were slightly outstretched, palms up and facing them as he repeatedly told the other that things were okay and that they would be alright in as calm a voice as he could muster. It seemed to take a couple moments, but in the end, the person appeared to come at least somewhat to their senses. The weapon was dropped and suddenly a stream of tears was running down their face.

Vangelis' face showed concern as the person, now clearly identified as a female by the sound of their voice now that actual words were coming from their lips. Cautiously he made his way forward again, realizing that it was perhaps the suddenness of his previous actions as well as the overall frightening nature of what had just occurred that had spooked the girl a second time. "You're not dying.. You're going to be fine" He said calmly as he once again moved to lower himself by the girl's side.

He looked over her injuries as she began sobbing out words and how she had lost things. He listened, but at the same time pushed those topics aside, instead once again reassuring her that it was alright, and adding in that whatever objects she had lost were not as important as her life. Once she revealed that she had been attacked by a wolf, Vangelis' brow rose curiously. At first he said nothing of it, but it was shocking to him that the image that came to his mind of a wolf, was large and powerful enough to completely ravage the cart in the way it had.

She was attempting to calm herself now, which was good, and he once again attempted to intervene as he knew how. "Let me see your injuries.. I will try to heal them." His words were clear, and now that the female seemed slightly more composed, perhaps she would be more accepting of his help. Again, his hands reached out towards her, to lightly touch at her most severely injured arm. Vangelis would then attempt to mend what wounds of hers he could and soothe what pain and anxiety and fright she was experiencing with the properties of his angelic magic.

As this was happening, he looked her over again, most concerned with the largest wound at her shoulder. "Were you alone when this happened? No one else was traveling with you?"

If I had a world of my own everything would be nonsense.

As she was reassured that she faced no impending doom it was easier to slow her rapidly beating heart. Still sniffling she looked at his face, scrutinizing his features and his kind, bright eyes. Her own that stormy gray and full of tears, her kohl-liner smeared all around them from both the fight and her sudden outpouring of tears. She nodded her head weakly he reached to her arm again, flinching when he touched the gaping wound. Jack heaved a heavy sigh as, even if the wound was not fully healed, some of the overwhelming pain was soothed away by his angelic properties. She heaved another heavy sigh and closed her eyes, “H-how are you doing that?” She asked curiously, looking down at his hands.

Upon closer inspection, it would be hard to believe a common wolf inflicted these wounds on Jack. The bite marks were massive, as were the claw marks on her face and abdomen- twice the size a normal wolf would inflict, at least. She was too ignorant about such things to notice, though, and too busy trying not to dwell on the attack. “Alone? Yea, of course, I mean I AM fifteen.” She said her age as if that explained everything about a young woman traveling alone in the woods at night. She elaborated though, as she picked up her dagger from the dirt and tucked it back in her boot, “My dad’s the blacksmith, and I’m an only child so he had me take the out of town deliveries this time. I was supposed to stop at nightfall but...” She paused and finished with a painfully obvious lie, “I wasn’t sleepy.”

She watched him a second after she spoke, just enjoying the relief that came from both having someone there and his angelic powers. Her head tilted a little as she watched him, and then, when she realized she was staring, she looked away quickly, off into the trees. “I lost the horses, and broke the cart... ugh he’s going to beat me.” She paused though, remembering what few manners she had and looked back at her savior, “My name’s Jack, by the way, Jack Tvastar. My father’s the blacksmith in the little town about two days that way.” She nodded her head back down the road where the cart had been, flinching at the pain this caused her shoulder but not complaining out loud. She paused, staring down the path from where they’d come, “Will you walk me home?” She sounded hopeful, turning back to look at him and then struggling to her feet. As much as she was dreading it, she knew she had to get back as soon as possible to tell her father what had happened.

While the girl herself may not have noticed that her wounds did not fit the common markings of a wolf, Vangelis sure did. Of course, he didn't actually have much experience with wolf attacks to begin with, but the simple size of the wounds inflicted and the malicious nature of the entire assault in general just didn't fit the picture in his head of how a wolf would act. Not to mention, this appeared to have been carried out by a single creature and wolves generally hunted in packs... The more the angel seemed to think about the situation, the more unanswered questions seemed to pop up inside his head.

He blinked as the sound of her question reached his ears, snapping back to her, having been momentarily distracted by his thoughts. Vangelis merely smiled warmly, not wanting to reveal his angelic heritage. "Oh, just a useful magic trick I've picked up..." When she said her age as if it were common knowledge that teenage girls wandered the woods alone at night, Vangelis regarded her strangely for a moment before responding with an accepting "Oh." Being that he was not actually of this world, he had no idea whether or not it was common custom for young girls to travel by their lonesome. Listening to her story as he continued to heal her, a hum of thoughtfulness escaping his lips as she mentioned that she was supposed to stop but didn't.

"I think your father may have told you to rest for good reason." His words were serious, yet not forceful. "It is a good thing you escaped with your life. I'm sure your father would be heartbroken to hear if you had not survived your dreadful encounter."

Following that, Vangelis smiled again at her, not intentionally wanting to put any additional stress or ill thoughts on her mind. "I'm Vangelis," he began simply, "and I suppose, for now, I'm just a wanderer enjoying the experiences this world has to offer."

Vangelis had thought that the name Jack was curious for a female, but again, with no real knowledge of the customs of the world, he was in no position to really question it. Once asked if he would accompany the girl home, the angel nodded quietly. It appeared he had done as much healing as he could muster at the moment, and he stayed crouched for a few moments more as Jack moved to her feet.

"I think it would be ill advised for you to be traveling alone in the condition you're in.. Not to mention negligent of me to allow you to do so. I'll accompany you and make sure you make it home to your father. That would likely go over better than you just wandering in alone and bloody."

With those words Vangelis stood and looked at Jack again after surveying the area. "Do you feel alright enough to walk without assistance?"

If I had a world of my own everything would be nonsense.

The man- Vangelis, she now knew him as- had no idea the way he made her heart constrict when he commented about her father. “I don’t know if ‘heartbroken‘ is the right word...” Of course, anyone who hadn’t experienced the stone-faced metal worker would have no idea of the way he resented his only child, but she didn’t really care to explain it, either. She teetered on one leg, babying the one with the twisted ankle as she looked around and then back up at him. It was sort of unnerving, the way she kept looking at him and then looking away but she couldn’t help it. She’d never been anything resembling a damsel before! It was as exciting as it was painful. The wound was still wide open, though noticeably less horrible looking thanks to the healing she had received.

“So are you like, an adventurer?” She asked after he explained his current status in that realm, just wandering and enjoying the experience. “I’ve never been away from the mountains but I really want to go exploring someday! I’m no good as a blacksmith anyway.” She flinched a bit as she shifted her weight and then went on, taking her first few steps, “I really want to see the No’bu Jungle in Ashoka, I heard it’s beautiful.”

Relief washed over her features when he agreed to accompany her to the nearby town that she called home. There was no doubt in her mind that only reprimand was waiting for her there, but where else could she go? She shook her head when he asked if she could walk on her own. Despite their height difference she reached up and touched his arm, holding onto it with her surpisingly rough hands as they started to walk, and she remained silent for awhile while she limped down the path. She was full of questions but didn’t want to bother her current companion.

Finally, though, she couldn’t resist, and she asked, “Is Vangelis a family name? I got named after my father.” There was another brief stretch of silence before she went on, “I know I ask a lot of questions but... have you ever seen a real dragon? Where’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever-” She was cut off by a deep hair raising growl. Ahead, past where the cart had ben overturned one of the horses had met an unsightly fate, eviscerated with its organs all strewn across the earth and it’s eyes wide, staring. Thankfully, though, the wolf wasn’t the source of the threat, but a large bear, with two brown, rolly-polly cubs at her side. Her face was covered in blood from the meal as she rose up on her bace legs and growled again at the advancing pair, ready to protect her family and her carrion. Jack moved back a few steps, pulling at Vangelis if he did not also instinctively retreat from the danger.

He didn't say anything in response to Jack's comment that maybe her father's reaction to his daughter meeting an ill end would be anything other than profoundly tragic. Her words troubled him, and he frowned slightly upon hearing them. Though it was reactionary of him to wonder how any parent could not love their offspring unconditionally, Vangelis was also aware that the actions and feelings of most mortal species were not as selfless and based in amity as he would have liked to imagine. Perhaps though, upon hearing that his daughter had actually come to serious harm, but survived, Jack's father would surprise her and respond with kindness. Vangelis didn't know the man of course, so he could only hope for the best in regards to that situation.

The angel watched as Jack took her time with testing out her lower limbs; and he did actually notice the way she kept looking back at him every now again. He didn't mind however, and her gaze did not at all make him feel uncomfortable; and while there was a general look of concern spread across his features, he did offer his injured companion a slightly goofy grin every so often to try and lighten the mood.

"Well, I'm actually pretty new to this adventuring thing." He admitted, a sheepish expression crossing his face as he scratched lightly at his cheek with an index finger. Hearing Jack speak lowly of her abilities caused the angel to immediately come to her defense. "Don't say that, I'm sure you're plenty good at what you do!" He pronounced enthusiastically as they slowly made their way. The angel continued speaking, this time making grand gestures with the arm that was not aiding Jack to stay upright. "And perhaps, when you are ready to, you can take to adventuring on your own! And be a wandering blacksmith.. A young woman of legend and mystery! Fixing and strengthening the weapons and armor of many a weary traveler! Vangelis chuckled then, his imagination going wild with lofty ideas of how Jack could make a marvelous name for herself while going on exotic adventures around the world. He only wanted to help try and brighten her mood and outlook, though all the things he said, he could clearly see as possibility in his mind's eye.

This continued for a while until Jack perked up with another inquiry. "A family name?" He repeated the question curiously, following it up with a short, light hearted laugh. "No, no.. it's just the name by which I am called.." He seemed to trail off into thought then, his fiery orange gaze disappearing into the sky. "I don't have a family, really." The statement was said in a slightly dreamy tone, but one that completely lacked a sense of sadness or forlornness. Vangelis had no issue with his state of being or his origin, and no real longing for things to have been different than how they were either. His words were simply a matter of stated fact and nothing more.

Chuckling and looking at Jack pleasantly regarding the sudden barrage of questions he received, but in no way annoyed or put off by them, Vangelis simply basked in the light hearted attention he was receiving. He would have no problem with answering any question the girl asked of him, but it would probably be easier for him if she asked them one at a time. Before he could really even start to think of responses though, Jack was cut off by the sound of a growl, which in turn drew his attention and immediately put a bit of a damper on his attempts to recover the girl's spirits.

Though he stopped, the angel didn't appear to recoil from the animal. Instead he regarded it with jovial fascination. He almost cooed at the bear and her cubs, though the only sound that he made was a light "Oooo.." at the sight of them. Jack pulled at his arm, but instead he stayed still, neither continuing towards the creature, nor cowering away from it. Instead, and perhaps seeming a bit too calm given the situation, Vangelis merely looked around the area again before turning to Jack.

"Come, this way." He nodded his head to the side, before beginning to lead the girl away from the bear and the horse, across from them towards the woods. "It would be simpler to just walk around them. I am sure this bear is not looking for a fight, not with her cubs and a meal in front of her, and neither are we." His words were logical and evenly stated, and even though the bear was in an aggressive stance, thus far it did not seem interested in pursuing them into the woods.

Vangelis only planned to head but a few yards into the brush before resuming their homeward bound direction and reconvening on the road. At the moment however, he choose his path into the foliage carefully, if not for his sake, then for the sake of Jack. "If you ever grow tired of walking, just say so. I can carry you on my back, if you'd like."

If I had a world of my own everything would be nonsense.

As refreshing as it was to hear someone have so much faith in her abilities, Jack just smiled a little and shook her head upon his insistence that she was probably a fine blacksmith. She didn’t elaborate though, caught for a moment in the day dream he painted for her: Jack Trvastar, the traveling black smith! Queen of the forge! Of course, in such illusions she always pictured herself beautiful and a tall, with a full bust and long long hair. (After all, who wants to be mediocre in their own fantasy?) Still as the question and answer session ran on, and they continued their stroll back down the bloody pathway, his talk of lacking a family made her frown.

“No family?” The sorrow that appeared in her eyes was surprising, holding so much empathy for a man she’d only just met. She stumbled a bit and leaned harder on him, “All I have is my father so I guess I understand. I don’t really have friends, either- do you have friends?” She pressed, thinking perhaps instead of brothers and sister he had the privilege of close-knit companions.

His reaction to the bear was so strange that, even in the face of potential danger, Jack just had to laugh a little. The bear growled and opened it’s mouth emitting a loud roar as a threat and it’s cubs all seemed to shrink down in fear, looking at the humanoids as if realizing they were a threat for the first time. The mother bear did not seem keep on chasing them into the foliage though. Jack stumbled a little on some roots, flinching but still smiling a little, “You aren’t afraid of bears? But they’re huge and they have big teeth and big claws!” Jack smiled at him though, her gray eyes lightened despite the pain as someone finally humored all her silly questions. “I guess we should be okay though, I mean a mother bear usually only attacks if you get between her and her cubs. Thats what the ladies in town told me, anyway.”

Her smile fell though, when they passed a push and the unfamiliar little squealing grunt of a third, previously unseen bear cub came from their left, the mother bear snarling on their right. A little bear had jumped away from Vangelis’ foot and scaled a nearby tree in fear. The mother bear, easily enraged by the sound of it's child's distress and the sight of the humans, began to amble towards them. “Uh- Um-” Jack managed, all words caught in her throat before she let go of Vangelis and held out her hand. A feeble fireball, about an inch and a half in diameter appeared and she hurled it at the oncoming attacker. The bear didn’t even stop as the flaming orb barely grazed its shoulder, scorching its fur, and then landed in a pile of dry leaves. They caught fire quickly and Jack’s jaw dropped, “O-oh damn- uhm-! Bad bear! Bad!”

She turned and tried to run, forgetting her injuries in the panic but remembering them as she tripped, destined to fall back to the dirt if Vangelis did not catch her. If today was any indication, it was pretty obvious that this girl had a streak of bad luck in her blood.

"No, no family. But it's not a sad thing; it's just how life is." He told her, catching the sorrowful look in her eyes and attempting to quell it with positive acceptance. Vangelis honestly was not bothered by his lot in life; for anything that he may appear to be lacking in the eyes of some, he was certainly gifted with a wealth of redeeming traits in the eyes of another. "As for friends... I'm kind of making them as I go along; like now, for instance." He smiled at her again before giving a playful wink.

He didn't immediately answer her question about the bears. While he wasn't afraid of bears, he did understand the need for caution when one was riled up. Fear, though, generally, was something he was completely unfamiliar with. Nearly everything he had ever faced in life had been met with a calm mind and optimistic attitude. The bear merely wanted to have a meal in peace with her cubs, to make sure they were not in harm's way, and the duo merely wanted to make it to Jack's town as quickly and smoothly as possible. If they just kept their wits about them and acted with tact and purpose, there was nothing to be afraid of, only obstacles and puzzles that needed to be solved.

The unexpected sound made by a third, previously unknown about bear cub, drew the male's attention downward, a brow rising curiously as he uttered a quietly surprised "Oh..." Another complication added to an already peculiar situation. Turning to look then as the mother bear began closing the distance between them, Vangelis caught sight of Jack's forming fireball. He started, reaching out an arm to try and stop her, but was a bit too late. The angel frowned as the ball of flame shot towards the bear, grazing it before landing in a pile of leaves and starting a fire. One thing after another it seemed…

Without a moment to spare, the angel crouched, a strong, bare arm stretching out to catch the falling Jack around the midsection. Near instantly he took off, his legs pushing from the ground as he darted to the side in the forest, zigzagging past several trees as the bear continued towards them. Abruptly he stopped, vanishing from the bear's line of sight, using the ancient and thick trunk of one particularly large tree as cover. There, he took a break, and sat Jack at the base, putting a finger to his lips to signal that she keep quiet for the time being.

As far as Vangelis was concerned with the situation, there was no need to fight or engage the bear. Even now, its only agenda was to ensure the safety of its cub against the perceived threat of the two humanoids in the area. While the large animal had given chase to Vangelis as he fled with Jack, once he had ducked out of sight, it too retreated. Apparently the mother did not want to leave any of its cubs left any more unattended than they already were. After about a minute, the angel peeked out from behind the tree, surveying the area to make sure the bear and its cub had perhaps returned to the scene of the dead horse. With no visual in sight, he decided that the coast was clear and turned back to Jack. "Wait here a moment..."

Sneaking out from their place of hiding, he covertly made his way back to where Jack's badly aimed fireball had started a small fire in some dried bush. Aware that leaving such a result could potentially lead to much greater danger to not only them, but every other living creature in the area, the angel deemed it necessary to act. Clapping his hands together and holding them palms down above the flames, he conjured into existence some pristine drinking water. Without a container to hold it though, the water simply dropped to the ground, flooding out the small fire with a hiss.

Once figured that everything had been taken care of nicely and neatly, the angel sighed and quickly made his way back to Jack's side. "This is probably not the best location to make use of fire based magic. I think more harm than good may come of it..."

If I had a world of my own everything would be nonsense.

Everything happened so fast, Jack barely had a chance to comprehend what was going on. One moment she was facing certain doom, the next she was being deposited at the base of an overgrown tree. She opened her mouth to speak, blushing a bit embarrassed at having been carried, but upon seeing his finger at his lips she closed her mouth and just brought he knees to her chest, watching him depart.

Stupid stupid stupid! she mentally reprimanded herself for her foolish choice of spell . It was bad enough she’s lost the horses and broke the cart, the last thing she needed to do was burn the whole mountain down! Her chin rested on her knees, taking a deep breath in the silence. She was on the edge of tears agin, but she resisted, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. A caterpillar was inching its away across the root beside her face, she focused on the little green wiggler in an effort to stop dwelling on her recent plethora of mistakes.

What if he was just going to leave her here? What if she’d caused him so much trouble he’d had enough? her mind would not be distracted, rather, it ran off on another pessimistic tangent. Still, these fears were quelled upon Vangelis’ reappearance, looking up at him. She looked down at what he said, “Sorry...” Her voice was quiet, full of guilt for her thoughtless actions as she pulled herself up to standing, sort of teetering on her uninjured leg and peering up at him. “I was just...surprised..” She heaved a heavy, shaking sigh before he looked back to the road and started to wobble along, stumbling a bit. She was obviously very clumsy, and this had only been made worse by the twisting of her ankle.

She was more quiet than she had been before, hunkered down a bit as they made their way down the long path. In truth the reality of her situation had just finally sunk in, all the horrible events coming together like the weight of the world resting on her shoulders. She seemed even smaller when she was upset, hugging her arm.

She didn’t last long in this quiet though, as, after a bit more travel she glanced over, “Did you really mean what you said about carrying me?”

As neglected as she was, she was still just a scrawny fifteen year old girl who never left her home town; she wasn’t much cut out for such a trek across mountainous terrain, especially in her current condition. Her stomach growled a little but hunger was not yet worth warranting a complaint. They would have to stop and rest at some point before they continued on their journey to her small resident village. “I wish we had some water. I’m so thirsty.”

It wasn't hard at all for Vangelis to pick up on the heavy, negative feelings that came from the girl in waves. A sympathetic expression came to his face as she apologized for her actions. "It's alright, don't fret. Today just hasn't been your day thus far, that's all." Vangelis was neither put off nor annoyed by the recent string of events that had seemed to center around the girl. If one really stopped to think about it, she hadn't really done anything seriously reprehensible. Being attacked by the wolf and initial charging of the bear were things that were out of her control completely, and while the fireball hadn't been the best idea, it hadn't led to any serious damage, so all was well as far as Vangelis was concerned.

Despite that, he did understand the stress and negative emotions associated with having one bad thing after another happen to you in short succession. Life had a way of piling things onto others sometimes. As they slowly began to make their way again, Vangelis offered Jack a smile, attempting to brighten her mood.

"Well! On the plus side, no one got hurt during the bear incident! Try not to feel too negatively about things, okay, Jack? None of this is your fault, just a bad day I suppose. You just try and clear your mind and focus on feeling better."

With those words he left her to her own internal thinking, his hands going to rest casually against the back of his head as they continued to trek on with the sounds of the mountain as their background noise. His attention was drawn to her again though once she asked whether his offer to carry her was genuine or not. "Of course. Are you tired of walking?" His question was immediately answered by the girl's quietly growling stomach, which he perhaps only really heard because of the quietness of the general area. Vangelis chuckled in response as he then stopped and motioned for Jack to do the same. "From the sound of it, hungry too..."

The angel's gaze then panned around their current location. He didn't really see anywhere that would make sense to set up a camp at, so instead he just figured the road was the best option for now. "Tell me, what's your favorite thing to eat?"

How could she possibly calm down when not a single goddamned thing had gone right in the last two days? Clear her mind? Focus on feeling better? All these ideas felt foreign to the trouble youth’s brain. Her rattled nerves kept anything resembling relaxation to sooth her tense muscles and calm her thumping heart. Her stomach growled, her mouth felt dry- and the scents all around were overwhelming. Had things always smell so strong? Had the sounds of the forest always been so loud?

The typically mild mannered girl felt oddly moody, though kept such feelings from her features, instead, she nodded when asked if her legs were tired and moved closer. Upon reaching a closer proximity to the angel, he seemed to hear her stomach rumbling. It was understandable, she hadn’t eaten in quiet sometime, and her gaunt body hardly had any reserves of energy stored up.

“My favorite food?” She looked perplexed, no one had really asked her such a question before, and it made her rack her brain. What had she eaten in her day? Nothing particularly extravagant, after all, with size of the village she had, they didn’t even had a market! Rather a sort of bartering swap meet where people could go trade their wears or perhaps exchange a bit of coin.

“Venison.” She said finally, just snatching for an item that she remembered enjoying and leaned on a tree a bit, looking at him, head tilting, “What’s yours?” She wasn’t sure quite what this question had to do with their current situation but there was no good reason not to answer him either. He seemed to be sweet, and in general determined to help. She had faith that her companions query would some how resulted in their being fed.

The forest seemed to have calmed a bit, the bear no doubt retiring into the woods with its cubs, and jack sitting down heaving on some uplifted tree roots, rubbing her leg and looking up at him, “Can we rest a little bit?” Her fear of her fate at home paired with general fatigue had finally gotten to her.

((>_< Sorry if this one is a lil weird...))

He nodded as she repeated the question, somewhat amused by the confused expression that appeared on her face. Did she not have a favorite food at all? He figured this was indeed a possibility as he looked the girl over again. While her injuries added to frail look of her, it didn't take much of a stretch of the imagination to think that she hadn't had much experience or variety in the realm of exploring different things to eat; she was rather thin, after all.

"Ah! Venison! That's a fine choice." Vangelis commented enthusiastically, his head tilting back to look at the sky as he pondered momentarily on what his own favorite food was. "If I had to pick anything... I think I'd have to choose Flame Ice Fruit. Yes." His gaze returned to Jack then, nodding in agreement with his own statement. The thought of the delectable treat almost made the angel's mouth water, but luckily he was able to keep his desires in check.

While Jack then sat to rest against the tree, Vangelis looked around the area again. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. In fact, let me go check something out for a moment, I will be back shortly." With that, the angel began walking past Jack, leaving the girl unattended for a little while as he vanished off into the forest. His reasons for doing so were simple, though would likely leave the girl rather confused as to why he just abruptly left. The truth of the matter was that Vangelis was searching for something in the woods, something that could be used as a container of sorts. Jack had mentioned that she was thirsty, and it was clear that she was hungry as well, and while Vangelis possessed the ability to create nourishment for her, he did need something in which to put the drink and hold the food. A plate and cup would have been nice, but he doubted that even his angelic luck would cause either of those items to just magically appear.

Vangelis didn't need to wander too deep into the foliage to find something useful however. Perhaps, only five to ten minutes in and there were bushes near the base of some of the trees to be found; bushes with large, flattened leaves that could very much be used in a way that was beneficial to him and Jack. Quickly getting to work, he pulled from the bushes enough leaves that he thought would be useful, and once finished, turned right on his heels and darted back to Jack, not wanting to leave her unattended for too long.

Once returned to her side again, noting his arrival with a "Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long", he crouched beside the girl and laid the leaves out. "There's a method to my madness, don't worry." He laughed then, before looking the girl in the face. "Can I see your leg? Just to check on how it's coming along."

If I had a world of my own everything would be nonsense.

Jack’s face wore a look of sheer bewilderment as the dark skinned angel went meandering off into the trees. She leaned her back to a tree, heaving a heavy sigh and slowly sliding down it, sitting there, in the dirt, looking around at the serene surroundings and hoping against hope that that bear had had its fill of horse, and the wolf from before had run off to some terrible and far away land. She grew tired, eyes closing as she slumped there, nodding her head a bit before finally her chin came down to rest on pronounced collarbone.

All at once her mind was assaulted with images: riding cheerily down the darkening pathway, urging the horses on down the serene path. Her mind had been elsewhere, on things like what she really wished she’d had- things like long hair, a full bust, long flowing dressed, a ball gown and a handsome prince... And on that dreamy not, she had been snapped out of trance by the sound of a hungry snarl and a huge fury body colliding with the wagon.

She started awake when Vangelis reappeared, his foot steps just enough to bring hre flailing from the nightmare, swinging her arms wildly and kicking out with her injured leg. She cursed the impulse, pulling the wounded limb up to hug her knee to her chest while she watched him. “What’s a fire ice fruit?” She inquired curiously, trying to distract herself from the urgent thumping of her heart in her ribs.

Still her attention was brought downward, head tilting slightly as she looked at those broad leaves in the dirt before her, “What are the leaves for? Are we going to eat them??” She looked back at his face upon his request though, stretching out her leg with a small wince. It was bruised, the knee skinned up, but there was no broken bones. Her ankle was twisted, but that coupled with the other intense injuries made the pain seem ten times worse.

“Can you do magic?” Her eyes were bright as she asked him in such an over-excited, childish manner, hoping against hope that at any moment he would demonstrate any knowledge of healing by at least dulling the pain in her many wounds. She wasn’t sure why she asked, probably just a hunch, perhaps a hopeful wish, but most likely just some unfair stereotype based solely on his somewhat strange behavior.

Vangelis himself grimaced slightly at the sudden wild movement that announced Jack's sudden awaking. The girl was still injured and jerky, fast movements like that would likely do nothing more aside from worsen her condition. "Sorry, didn't mean to startle you..." He apologized quietly, his eyes momentarily falling to the ground, hands spreading idly over the leaves as if in some vain attempt to flatten them against the ground.

Her question caused him to look up and raise an eyebrow as if he were surprised by the fact that she had no idea of what he had deemed his favorite fruit to be. His eyes then sparked with realization as he remembered that the particular item was one that was not native to this world or plane. The angel smirked inwardly at his himself before gently shaking his head and attempting to explain. "Flame Ice Fruit is a fruit that grows back in the place I called home."

The angel's fiery gaze drifted up to his eyebrows. "Well, technically, it grows under the place I called home, but whatever... There's a maze there where an energy nexus exists and causes all types of magic based energies to surge and flow throughout. This causes all kinds of interesting phenomenon and unexplained circumstance to happen. Flame Ice Fruit is one of those. It grows in the center of an Everfrost flower bud, which tend to pop up where some of elemental flows cross or come very close to each other. It is both very, very hot, and very, very cold. The taste itself is hard to explain though..." He trailed off, suddenly feeling as though he were rambling and simply hoping his description thus far was enough.

As Jack stretched out her leg and shot forth more questions, he motioned towards the leaves. "They are to hold your food, and yeah! I can do a bit of magic." The angel's voice was calm, but also enthusiastic, seeming as if he actually enjoyed the questions rather than being put off by them. While speaking, his hands reached out to touch at the girl's outstretched leg, focusing particularly on the ankle area. Vangelis proceeded to attempt another round of healing on the girl, to reverse the swelling and ease the pain. The wave of warmth that would flow through her in waves would also wash over at her knee, causing her body to heal over the skinned portion almost immediately.

"Most of my magic focuses on healing though." He looked up at Jack finally and smiled warmly at her. "Guess your day wasn't entirely full of bad luck, eh?"

The little lycanthrope girl listened with extreme interest as he described his favorite food in such detail. She wasn’t simple minded, per say, but the use of words like ‘nexus’ and ‘phenomenon’ kept her intrigued, head tilting slightly as she watched him speak, eyes locked on his own fiery orbs. This man had a gentle feeling of, well, goodness about him, and it made it easy for her to relax and just try to forget the pain that was coursing though her body.

Her food was going to go on the leaves? What food? She opened her mouth, craning her neck to look around before she moved to continue her question but was silenced by his coaxing and her own impulsive obedience, stretching out her leg with a small whimper, head tilting back in an almost dizzy fashion. His hands moved over the wounded limb and she flinched, “D-don’t-”

She stopped talking, silenced by the sudden warmth that spread though her limb, coaxing all the tense muscles to relax and causing her to let out a heavy sigh and close her eyes. The pain was fading a bit, not from her mangled should so much but definitely from the badly twisted ankle. “Where’d you learn how to do that? I wish I knew more magic! No one in my village knows magic except my dad and he only knows how to make fire for the forge.” That, at least, would explain the little fire ball she had used when upsetting the mother bear from before.

At his last little quip she couldn’t help but smile a bit, teeth white although not completely straight. Her head tilted, pulling a bit at her rather unflattering shirt and saying softly, “I guess so... I mean.. I’m glad you found me, or I’d probably be feeding maggots.” She nodded her head sagely and laid her head back again, letting it rest peacefully on the tree, eyes closed.

Even in that position she was full of questioning, opening one eye and inquiring, “Where do you call home? Someday I want to try that fruit and go in those mazes. It sounds amazing- is it a very beautiful place?” She had always loved tales of far away places with castes and knights in shining armor so, in her mind she was already trying to imagine just where Vangelis’ home would be. “It isn’t in Ashoka right? I heard Ashoka got burnt up! Do you know if that was true?”

"Uh… Well, um…" In truth, Vangelis had a slight bit of trouble when it came to answering Ja6ck's initial question. His healing abilities, specifically the simple ones hadn't exactly been 'learned' by him. Instead they were just kind of intrinsic, something he simply knew how to do ever since he had been created. It was pretty much in the same vein as breathing; it just came naturally and was never questioned. The fact that Jack was able to create fireballs though, showed that it wouldn't be impossible for her to learn additional magic if given enough time and effort. "Maybe I can teach you some other magic someday when you're feeling better and we have more time then."

He seemed pleased to be able to make the girl smile. Vangelis rather enjoyed Jack's company and the fact that she was able to smile now showed him that she was on her way to being healthy again. "I'm glad I found you too. I enjoyed the time to myself, but it is nice to have a companion as well.

The angel blinked when Jack mentioned the name of a location he was unfamiliar with in an attempt to figure out exactly where he was from. "Oh… I'm sorry to here that, but I am not familiar with any place called Ashoka…" He frowned a little, his mind backtracking to answer her other questions while remembering that there were still things he needed to do. Without further explanation of what he could do, Vangelis waved his hand over a portion of the leaves placed on the ground, speaking while doing so. "It is a beautiful place, but it is very far away from here. I wouldn't be able to give directions though as the way back isn't supposed to be known by anyone."

While the angel spoke, and as his hand moved over the makeshift plates, he used his powers to conjure up some food for Jack. Whether she was paying attention or not, if she were to now look down in front of her, she would notice that some perfectly prepared venison, along with a side of fresh fruit now existed. Of course, there were currently no utensils to be used to eat the food, but that wasn't really a necessity.

"Maybe one day though I will bring you some of the fruit. It could be a gift, I'm sure you'll never forget it."

“Magic? Real magic?!” the mere though was enough to get Jack’s tired heart pounding hard again. The extent of her own ability had been pounded into her skull with her father’s hard knuckles and years of repetition while feeding the forge’s roaring fire. Her mind lingered a moment on the memories, knees aching a bit at the memory of a particularly rough beating that she had earned by missing the fireplace entirely and setting a pile of folded laundry on fire. She brought her hand to her mouth, biting the nail and tilting her head. She was happy to hear he enjoyed her company as though and smiled widely, nodding her head quickly, “It’s not so scary now, with someone else with me.”

“You don’t know Ashoka?” The revelation was almost unfathomable to the petite tomboy, eyes shifting to the gaping wound on her shoulder. She picked a few small rocks out of it but flinched a little and stopped. The Angel’s powers had done wonders to sooth the overwhelming pain, and she felt no need to inflict any more of that unsavory sensation on her herself. Still, her attention was peeked once more as Vangelis waved his hands and there was suddenly fresh venison and pristine bits of fruit just begging to be eaten, laid out before her starving form like a feast.

She grabbed an apple first and sank her teeth into it, though the meat was titillating her mind. The smell, more specifically, seemed to drift up her nostrils with an intensity she had never experienced. Perhaps it was the hunger or maybe it was whatever power had made the world seemed so vivid upon her waking, but regardless she did away with the apple in a moment and turned her attention to the meat. She picked it up with her bare hands and sank her teeth into it with predatory ferocity, jerking her head back with both a flinch and a satisfied sigh, barely chewing and then claiming anther bite.

She was silent throughout her feverish dinner but spoke upon swallowing the last bite and wiping her mouth with the back of her calloused hand. “I’d really like that! Maybe you can take me to the underground place- I wont peek, on the way there. I’ve never had a friend before!” She smiled at him, speaking honestly. Her shoulders slumped back on the tree again, looking at him, and managing to maintain her somewhat happy (though still quite bedraggled) look. After a minute though she piped up again, “So are you just a regular magician or do you do other stuff? What other magic do you know?”
