SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

WHAT IS ELENLOND?

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

Shrista was confused, and being confused made her irritated. The goats seemed a perfect target, next to Tekun. She remembered setting the table on fire now. Glaring at him she moved when he bid her to, then allowed her arm to be swallowed in white flame, the cuff simply incinerated.

She made a sound of disgust and frustration in the back of her throat, turning away from the window and began roughly pulling her clothes on. She found her tequila bottle, empty, and lying on its side half under the bed, along with several others. Wine, ale, mead, seemed they'd gone through half the bloody supply. Needless to say most of the irritation was at herself for letting it happen, but that didn't mean she wouldn't aim it at anyone else. It left her in a foul temper.

"Let's not speak of this again, I need some damned willow bark. Head is gonna split like a melon."

She stepped lightly over the goat, dragging the door open which fell off it's hinges when she tried, then growling, leapt over that as well, and headed down the stairs, her stamping boots echoing all the way down the hall.

At the bar she helped herself to several choice bottles, shoving them into the pockets of her cloak, raided the kitchen and left the inn angrily tearing into a heel of bread, heading for the robed figure, clearly by the way she was stalking, meaning ill intent.

The robed figure was sitting there, dumbfounded as he scrolled through his book. Tekun would simply follow Shrista. He hadn’t had a hang over in forever and well, had to get used to this all over again. Holy hell, how much had he gone and drank. The floor was littered with bottles of all sorts. Outside he found his undergarments and pants and pulled them on quickly. His cloak on the stair case, he took that too and wrapped it around himself. He didn’t blame the drow for being in a sour mood at all. When she said to never speak of this again, he nodded in compliance.

He simply followed his companion as she stalked the wizard. Once they got close enough.

“Ah. You two are up. Good. Good. Hm? You don’t seem all that pleased. Understandably so.” He began, not pulling his eyes away from the goats as he spoke. He removed a book from his bag and turned to a page he had book marked. It was a very heavy tome from the looks of things, leather bound. Notes, perhaps spells even.

“I trust you rested….somewhat well?” His tone was half serious.

“Right…so…who the hell are you?” Tekun grumbled, holding his head.

“Oh. We’ll get to that. But first. Ask your friend to show a little restraint. Just a tiny bit. I bruise and incinerate rather easily you see. And it would be a shame if that help you asked for went and blew up or bled out, right?”

He looked to Shrista. Really…it was up to her at the moment.

As she approached swiftly with her hip swaying gait, a no nonsense look about her, one hand fluttered to the top of her left boot, drawing out the knife, and holding it against her palm, ready to make the cut.

"Information. Now, or your heart is going to explode in your chest."

Of course, he didn't know that she couldn't quite literally explode his heart, but she could certainly cause him a great deal of grief. Right now, she neither cared or worried about the state of the village, and had been considering simply roasting it to the ground and walking away, only of course, that would probably upset her companion. For some reason that made her grind her teeth and only added fuel to the fire. Her head throbbed dully.

    "I'm waiting, human."

Restraint. She almost laughed, only it might make her face crack right now to do it. For her, not making all the blood vessels in his body simultaneously burst was restraint. She hissed low and savage, pointing the blade at the robed man, then gesturing between him and Tekun.

"Feels like I have someone banging pots and pans inside my head, waking up, not knowing what the fuck is going on, why there's a goat trying to eat my hair, and why..why.." She gestured again at her companion, her face darkening with a mixture of embarrassment and barely controlled icy fury.
"You've got til the count of five. One. Two. Three..."

“Right. Right. Wandered through town…you two approached me smelling heavily of booze. Offered me a large sum to take care of some issue involving demons and what not. I mean. A large sum of gold. Soooooo. I took it and tried. Well. Effort backfired entirely. Turned the town into goats. You two wandered off and got yourselves doing…whatever while I attempted to amend this issue. Assuming I can even amend it. Well…”

Tekun in the meanwhile listened and closed his eyes when she gestured to him. Unsure of even what happened. His face did manage to turn red as well. And she mentioned exploding his heart? Could she do that with blood magic?! Now that thought excited him. That was power. And he wanted it. He had that potential

The mage began looking down the page.

“So yes….I don’t know what you did. But the effort you wanted me to do turned the town to goats. As for the paint, the ears, the meowing, the collar and you calling him your…pet. Frankly I’m surprised you both didn’t die of alcohol poisoning right there and then. Let alone vomit. Pretty composed for being that intoxicated if I do say so.” He found the page.

“Righty! Found it….hm…this could take a while. Damn. Oh. Names Aeon. If you have forgotten. I assume you have. I only repeated it five times.” He was largely unphased by her threats, it was like he dealt with drow before.

Tekun sighed. They managed to burn down a good portion of the woods, possibly. And then polymorphed a small populous. He could only imagine what else was to come.

Shrista drew the edge of the blade across her palm, slitting the skin and watching with satisfaction as blood began to well up and spill forth from the wound, running over her palm and tickling the underside of her arm. A small thread of magic found its way to the mage, whip-fast and tangling itself to him. Her gaze slid sideways to Tekun, and her face grew hard.

We could just take what we want, and I'll deal with the mage as is fit.

"I don't give a damn about these people. You however, need to start taking this seriously."

She clenched her fist, letting the force constrict around the man's heart, relishing his pain as he contorted, clutching at his chest, before she released it, though she kept the binding in place. It was sapping her strength a little to do it, but fueled by her anger, she didn't notice so much. She would as she said before, pay for it later.

    "Are we clear now?"
She hunkered down, almost nose to nose with the man, her eyes narrowed to mere slits.
"I don't give a damn. My friend however, has a conscience, and probably wants you to fix this. I'll let you two settle this. I don't want to have to step in and solve any problems, because when I fix things, they usually end up dead. I hope you understand."
With that she stood, and spun on her heel, stalking away towards the well where she leaned over, peering down into its unfathomable depths, trying to get a rule on her anger. She'd not been so angry in a while, and it was both a good, and a bad feeling. Exhilarating, the blood pounding behind her eyes. She forced herself to release the binding on the man at this point, running a hand through her hair in frustration.

    Calm.

“Y…Yes.” He grasped his heart, it raced. Blood magic was always wicked. He hadn’t expected her to lash out at him. Tekun crossed his hands and looked to the mage. Tekun wanted to help these people, but at the same time. He did not pity this mage.

“Fix the problem. You caused this mess. And you had best hand over -any- notes you have on my condition. Regardless of whether I’m drunk or not. I -want- them. They are worth more than your life.” He glared and stood up right. Tekun could not have looked more intimidating. The wizard paused and threw a book, a small pad.

“J…J…Just take it. I’ll fix the mess. I promise! Take what you want. I won’t say anything.” He had gone from high and mighty to sniveling coward in a matter of seconds. Tekun glared and looked to Shrista.

“Take whatever you need to carry on…I’ll do the same? Sound good Shrista?” Tekun looked to his companion who was obviously flustered. But she did an impressive job of…not killing him. She considered his thoughts, how he felt. It was…he wasn’t sure.

"I need only what I already have on my person."

She whirled away from the well, a walking thundercloud, just waiting to strike at the first unfortunate to get in her way. It just so happened that a goat stumbled across her path as she crossed the yard, her fingertips reached out, brushing lightly on its back as she passed, draining the very life from it. The wound on her hand buzzed, tingled and glowed faintly, then closed, the headache receding until it was nothing but a gentle throb at her temples, instead of the horrific hammer bashing at the inside of her skull and threatening to punch her eyes out of her head.
The goat staggered, its eyes glazing over as it slumped. Had it still been human, that probably wouldn't have happened. The color seemed to have been leeched from it, as well as the life. Everything that made it...alive.

That was a person a few hours ago. I wonder who...doesn't matter. Still, I wonder.

"I'm outta here. I'll see you on the road."
She growled softly to herself under her breath, stalking away like a cat that had its tail pulled. She would wait, but she would not do it contentedly. For the time being, she needed a few moments to herself, mostly to clear her head, only a little to gain proper control of herself again.

Tekun watched her aggression…luckily the goat she struck actually was a goat. Had it been a person it would have reverted back. But still…if that had been a person. Tekun could only wonder. He watched her go to leave. She needed time alone. Tekun regrouped with her in a matter of fifteen minutes. Goat meat…and other meats were taken as supplies. In addition to fresh foods. Tekun came back, fully equipped. However he still had that paint and cat ears…he looked ridiculous.

“Shrista.” Tekun stated calmly. “Are you okay? Do you need to talk about anything?” Tekun asked, his voice had that edge of concern. He wasn’t about to chastise her for something that didn’t matter. What if it was a person, what if it was a goat. She didn’t need that type of anger right now. Not when everything was so muddled. His head hurt. On his way out he had remembered that cup of tea, in his hands was the same type she had mentioned.

“Willowbark tea…I thought it might help you.” He offered it to her. Though a part of him expected her to spur it. Maybe chew him out for waking up on top of her. Who knew….whatever it was. He remembered to keep his cool. The armor…it taunted him yet. But not to kill, but laugh at how foolish and pathetic this all was. It was a hateful thing. It rubbed off sometimes, but not this time. She was a friend, she mattered to him.

She'd been sitting at the edge of the road when she saw him coming, and was standing by the time he reached her. Taking the tea from him, still scowling, she downed it, shuddering at the bitter taste and hoping that it wouldn't linger too long, almost enough to make her think that her face might turn inside out if she drank more of it.

    "Thank you."

She tossed the dregs away to the side of the road, handing him back the cup, and started walking, her anger had not completely faded but reduced to an icy calm, her pale eyes glittering in the morning light like frost.

"I have no desire to speak of it."

He looked ridiculous with those ears stuck to his head and the paint on his face, and she could have told him so, but bit her tongue. It wasn't entirely his fault, after all, it takes two to tango, and neither of them would have likely managed to get into the situation without the other. At least in some parts anyway. Her lip curled in the slightest sneer, and she shot him one of those looks, that women are so good at when they're annoyed with you.

"Did you find anything useful in the mage's notes?"

He nodded to her, confirming her thank you. He took the cup, and looked at her. Her expression…calm. He hadn’t noticed before, but she had beautiful eyes. If she had no desire to speak of what had happened, then neither did he. It didn’t matter much. Surprisingly enough. He didn’t get a snappy comment on how idiotic he looked. She looked at him with a look indicating that this was all his fault. After all he could have said no right? He had no anger towards her, but wasn’t about to blame himself. Things happened, roll with it.

“I gave it a glance…now would be a bad time to tell you…that I have a hard time reading basic.” Tekun rubbed the back of his head. Expecting to be chided for being an imbecile. After all, so many years of living. “It’s…embarrassing. I only know enough to get by……life style and all…also it’s written in cursive…fancy like…I can’t make much sense of it.”

This was something he rarely admitted…rarely meaning never. To be so open like this, so exposed. Well, let’s see where this goes, he thought. How…how much could she insult him, maybe stab him for being illiterate on a research pursuit.

Shrista sighed, holding her hand out towards him, quickly flexing her fingers twice in a motion that could either be interpreted as 'Come at me', or 'Give it here.'

    "Give."

She'd taken the time to learn the common language's method of writing shortly after she'd learned the tongue after coming here. Next to her own, it was simple enough. For a start their words didn't all sound like the chittering, hissing and clicking of odd noises echoing in a tunnel.

"So, more than five hundred years and you never took the time to learn? Didn't interest or something?"

She wasn't pricking at him, though her whole demeanor right now was prickly in itself from her earlier irritation. He probably had better things to do. Things that involved dismemberment no doubt.

"Do you at least know your letters? Nevermind, we don't have time to try and teach that now. Should've nicked a horse back there, we'd get further. Where're we headed anyway? You said you had a friend?"

So full of questions. She swung her arms loosely by her sides, glancing at their surroundings as they walked with disinterest. Maybe she should set something else on fire, after all, a forest and a table were small beans, it might liven up the drabness a little.

Tekun understood the message and when she asked he only closed his eyes and turned a bit redder. He didn’t answer, Tekun had his reasons. He never learned to properly read. He only knew from what he had gathered in his time. Nothing perfect, nothing complete. And especially nothing as formal as what had been written.

“…I know my letters…” He admitted, grumbling. This was clearly a bit of a touchy subject. While he may not hide things there were still things he just didn’t bring up because he didn’t need to. “Heading to…Madrid. My friend is there….she’s a younger witch. Haughty. Likes to wear all red. Her name’s Scarlet. Turned me into a toad once…”

He rubbed the back of his head. Like her…he had been snuck up in his sleep too. Which was embarrassing as all. He was just drop dead tired.

“Turned me back once she got herself into….a lot of trouble. Since then things sort of worked themselves out. I guess that’s how things work out sometimes. Hopefully she can help out a little bit. I never brought up breaking the curse up with her…probably should have…” He rubbed the back of his head. “I’m a wreck aren’t I?”

"A toad? Must have been quite an experience, though I can think of worse things to be turned into."
She took the book and flipped through it, pausing a little on several pages, skimming over the cramped spidery writing but not focusing on any one part for longer than a few seconds.

"It's on demonology, summoning. That sort of thing. It's a start, I suppose."

His question surprised her, enough that she stumbled, chuckled and righted herself, kicking the offending loose stone along the road ahead of her as they walked. Well at least he knew his letters, that would make it easier if she ever got around to teaching him the basic combinations that made words. If.
The writing itself wasn't easy to read either, all written in random paragraphs with bits crossed out and odd notations here and there. And all in that sloped scrawl.

"You're not a wreck. Plenty of people aren't fully literate. Took me more than a month to learn on and off, reading posters and the like, trying to figure it out, until I got my hands on a book. Lost that at dice too."

Hopefully his witch could help decipher the problem, and she could get five minutes to sit and read through this...journal, if it was even that. It seemed to just be a random account, notes on what the man had found on demons, half of which she could probably dismiss as wrong, or ridiculous rumor. It was however better than nothing, and sharing it with this Scarlet, perhaps they'd have better luck bouncing it back and forth between each other.

“Oddly liberating, but you feel helpless.” He stated. “Kept the hair. Looked up information on such spells. Managed to figure out it’s like shape shifting but locking a form.” Tekun began. “But that’s just from personal experience.” He watched as she began skimming the book.

“A good start. That’s what we need.” When he spoke, she stumbled, laughed and regained her composure, kicking a stone as she did. He moved to assist her, but stopped when she didn’t need it. He felt over protective.

“Thanks….I’ll keep that in mind. Dress my lack of knowledge. Someone once told me ignorance is okay if you seek to amend it. I can’t remember her name, but I remember she stood out quite a bit. Mysterious and all…That was a long time ago.” He thought back on that person, her face was some cloudy and blurred in his mind.

“Anything else in that book? Notes on what we are specifically looking at?” Tekun pondered just how useful this Aeon would prove to be. This was a good start, at least their drunken adventure got them somewhere. An inch closer was still an inch closer.

    Dear Diary,

Today I met a drow and the Immortal Soldier of Morrim. I thought the latter was dead. More importantly. He was piss drunk, wore a collar and kept making these cat sounds. The two cuddled....alot. Nauseating. I am only led to believe that during the revolution the soldier retreated to the underdark and was made a slave to one of the Drow Matrons...though I suspect even this is false.

Why would a drow do such a thing to a human, they hate humans. More importantly, why would she nickname him. "Cuddlemuffins?!" Abusrd!
The college will need to hear about this...possibly for blackmail purposes.
Shrista Ssapavin Barriurden and Tekun, Immortal Soldier....

    -Sincerely. Aeon.

Her eye twitched a little as she scanned over the more recent entries.

    The fuck.

"No..no nothing of any real worth, just talking about...casting a spell to try to lift your curse, it backfired, transmogrified the people into beasts."

Her cheeks darkened, slowly coloring. Had she been a pale skinned surfacer she'd have been as red as a beet, chewing her lip and continuing to skim through the latest notes.

"And..and uh, he found the same as I did, in regards to how it feels. Alive."
Flickers of memory from the night before came back again, weaving lazily across the green towards a robed man while the world seemed to lean awkwardly in the opposite direction from that which she was walking, tugging the collar of her large companion along with her.

    Oh my various gods.

“Right…” Tekun noted how beat red she became when she read the notes. He thought on that. Hey! That’s a clever…play on words. Maybe he could come off as cheeky. Who knows. Why not press…if she was reading his notes. He had the right to know about it right.

“Is there a reason that you’re turning red as you read?” He gave one of those smiles. She was embarrassed and why not. He could trust her, if she hadn’t stabbed him by now she wouldn’t do it over something so trivial and stupid. Besides at the rate these two days had gone, they would eventually destroy the world. He didn’t chuckle but the glint in his eyes indicated she wasn’t telling the whole truth. And he knew it.

He pondered in silence what she had found out. Well…he supposed he would find out soon enough.

    "No, no reason...Cuddlemuffins."

He knew she was lying, and she hadn't covered it very well, the little jibe might jog his memory, if not, well, it was amusing, an inside joke to tweak his nose.

"So they call you the Immortal Soldier of Morrim hmm? I don't expect you meow to intimidate your enemies..?"

Shrista doubled up laughing, snapping the book shut and handing it back. She'd ask to look at it again when they stopped, when there was more time, breaking camp or otherwise. There could be something of note amongst the garbage, the drivel of a lonely mage forced to work his trade for backwards farming communities that believed demons would get them if they didn't throw salt over their left shoulder with their right hand after a spill. The sort of base superstition that was poorly maintained and unproven, always evolving into some new kind of imaginary terror.
    Throwing salt wouldn't stop demons.

She'd had slaves back home before, though she'd never treated them like pets. She'd known a sorceress who'd had a Shadar-Kai for a 'pet' before, because he was magically talented she'd kept a nullifying collar on him to prevent him breaking out and running away, treated him more like a favourite animal than a person. It was all rather..disgusting. To think that's what might have been happening yesterday, she didn't want to think about it. It was't the cuffs that bothered her but the whole nauseatingly cuddly affair. Shrista didn't do cuddly, end of.

Cuddlemuffins….then it came racing back…Tekun flushed a bright crimson. His face could not become any redder. Then she double upped after that comment. Tekun was speechless. He had no comment and was too distracted by the memory. His hand reached up and plucked the ears out without a second thought about it. Hair was torn out painfully but he made no note of it. He threw them off to the side.

Maybe it was best he swore off alcohol. Or at least never drank in excess like that again.

“Cuddle….muffins…” He repeated hesitantly. Oi…he remembered now. They were talking drunkenly. Slurring their words. She mentioned drow culture, a cat passed by and he drunkenly started imitating it. One thing led to another. Tekun brought a hand to his face. It was clear he remembered now and he sincerely regretted asking.

“…” The sound of silence had never before been so loud in his life. This was the most embarrassing thing he had done in his recent memory. Still he was doubfounded and had no way to retort to that. His hand wiped the pain from his face, smearing it ever so slightly.

Laughing delightedly at his embarrassment, echoing her own, she continued to kick the stone ahead of them along the road.

The drow felt profoundly bored, boring scenery, the long awkward silence from her companion stretching ever onwards with only the stone's bouncing for company. The road was oddly empty of travelers, and she'd expected to see at least one or two, but looking back she could see no one, only Tekun and herself on this stretch, and the faint blur of trees back the way they had come.

She missed the rowdy music of a full tavern, the gentle lanterns bleeding their colorful lights into the night and the tense noise of several men beating on each other over the barmaid, or dice, or alcohol. Any excuse really. She missed the city, the press of people and rush of color. This place was drab, brown and flat, seemingly endless. And quiet. Just the occasional trill of a low flying bird as it raced far ahead of them.

"Ugh..why is it so...quiet. It's like everything's just hiding away."

    Tekun
    Immortal Soldier

Tekun eventually stopped blushing and regained his natural color as well as his composure but he was silent for a time as they walked. She was right, things were eerily quiet. Things didn’t feel off though. Maybe it had to do with the fire or the abundance of magic in the town? Maybe it had left a residue. Keep the life away. Maybe word had spread quickly about what had happened. Stay away from town.

“Who knows…” he stated simply. It was the best and most reasonable answer he could give. “We’ll find something in time. Madrid is a bit away. But we’ll get there. City life should be at least a little bit more life like. And I doubt we’ll get into trouble there. It’s not uncommon to meet no one on these long stretches. It’s boring but at least a little safe.”

He sighed and rubbed his face again. He removed a flask and drank from it. Deeply and then placed it back where it sat.

“Hopefully…” He didn’t fear danger but he didn’t want anything else to happen, these last few days had been eventful enough.

Shrista shrugged, swinging her arms. She sensed nothing except the usual small life forms, scurrying away to hide as they passed. The type that hadn't had that much human contact but knew enough to stay away or risk being eaten.

A fine layer of dust had settled on her boots again as she kicked the stone along before her, before it rolled off the path completely and into the scrub, out of sight.
    She sighed.

I hope so. I hate it when nothing happens like this. Maybe when we reach Madrid things will be better.

She'd been hoping not to go back there for a while after the last time, maybe wind her way to Morrim eventually. She'd passed through briefly before, but never actually stopped in any of the towns or cities, only crossing over on the way to Ashoka. Now they were heading back again, to find one of Tekun's old friends. You'd think in the last couple of days with all that had happened she'd have had enough of action, but rolling her shoulders, she quickened her pace to a trot, glancing at the mercenary with a flash of competitive smile as she broke into a full out sprint, leaving just her laugh lingering on the air as she ran towards the muddy blur that could only be a sprawling city on the horizon.

The quicker we get there, the quicker this is over.
