SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

Not that it was a habit to keep track of 'good' days and 'bad' days, but T'riss was having a bad couple of days. Not only had be been injured and captured by some Humans, but he was chained all of the time now and spent a large amount of last night in a cage so he wouldn't be able to fight. Unfortunately these were not stupid Humans. Far from genius status, but they were at least intelligent enough to know in order to keep T'riss here they needed to take extra care in how he was bound.

The morning had come, and being outside as the sun rose made him particularly more grumpy than he had been. Not that T'riss felt he had to live underground, but he was much more comfortable there as that was how he'd been raised. Not only that, but he was used to sleeping during the day. However, there wasn't much he could do about it other than be grumpy, and so he just stayed grumpy even after his morning meal of some white gruel that had the consistency of paste was given to him. It wasn't until buyers started filing through the slavers' camp that he was really able to be anything other than grumpy.

Not only had T'riss been moved to a more central location within the camp so more people would see him, but his feet and hands were chained so he could not walk at more than a slow shuffle. He also could not move his arms up much higher than about half a foot from his sides as the chains on his wrists were connected to a short chain around his waist. T'riss had sat on the ground the entire day unless forced to stand to better show potential buyers what the Half-drow looked at full stature. However, the problem the slavers had with T'riss was that he was intimidating any and all potential buyers without even saying anything. Death glares were all that were needed.

Of course, the fact that the slavers went an entire day without making much money, because not only was T'riss scaring buyers away from him but in effect he was simply scaring buyers from the camp itself and therefore they were not buying other slaves. This ended up with the Humans taking cheap shots while T'riss was chained and beating him until they were sure he had a few broken ribs. His left leg had been previously injured and had been the main reason he'd been left behind and caught the night before, so that injury as well as the now broken ribs made it so the slavers felt that T'riss would at least be easier to manage the following day. Pain-filled grimaces were less intimidating than glares promising quick death.

As the final customers left with the slowly retreating sunlight, T'riss was placed roughly back in his cage that seemed to be meant for a person or creature half his height and tossed a stale, partial loaf of bread and a small water skin. Once the Humans left him alone, he ate in silence and groaned softly.

At least the sun was going down now...that was a relief, but he was sure he would not get sleep anytime soon. It was nearly impossible for him to fall asleep at night...

Elison hated slavers, and slavery. Pretty much anything that had to do with the subject. She wasn't some sort of violent crusader against the industry who went of of the way to cut the throat of every flesh peddling bastard who crossed her path, but when the chance came up to get paid for slit some of their throats, Eli rarely turned it down. '

Not that it was common for there to be rewards for such an act, slavery was legal in every nation. Some people just didn't like the thought of their family members being in bondage after being captured in a raid. A near by village had pooled their resources together in order to hire Eli. They might not have been the most impressive looking warrior that they had ever seen, but there hadn't been anyone more impressive on hand to take the job.

The whole concept just seemed wrong. No one wanted to be forced to work for someone else with no reward other than maybe they would hurt you less, so why let it happen to someone else? Slavers might talk big about the necessity of their services, but if the tables turned and it was them in shackles the cried for freedom just as loudly as any other newly captured soul.

The camp hadn't been too hard to find. They couldn't really bother with subtly if they wanted people to buy their wares. And again, they probably didn't expect too much in the way of attacks. The only dangers to them in these parts were angry villagers with pitchforks and maybe some Drow. The last one might be a bit of a worry, but so long as there was still daylight left, the slavers wouldn't be too concerned.

The woman had been scouting the camp for some time now, taking note of the layout and numbers. There were less people than she'd expected, but it looked like they'd been attacked recently, probably the night before. The previously mentioned Drow, no doubt. This worked in Eli's favor. It was much easier to take out someone who was tired and wounded.

Carefully the half-elf began to make her way to the location of the nearest guard. The man was much larger than Eli, but had obviously been on his feet for hours. Whatever extra vigilance the recent attack might have had, it was well worn off by now. Sneaking though the trees shadows to get in behind him was just a matter of patience. He didn't even have time to yell out before her knife moved across his neck.

The other three guard that were posted outside of the camp fell without too much of a problem. Only two spotted her in time, and of those only one had been able to draw her weapon. That woman had tried to put up a fight before dying, but hadn't thought to call out for help. The had been fortunate, they were close enough to the camp that the five slavers within would have been about the hear any screaming. Fighting them all at once was not high on Eli's list of things to try.

As the sun set over the camp, the cages were transformed into a maze of shadows. It had been considerate of the slavers to give her plenty of places to hide. Getting into it was another waiting game. They weren't at full numbers, so they had two members patrolling the camp, she couldn't be sure of where the other three were, but the strong smell of cooking meat suggested that they were by the fire. Eli found a dark spot by an occupied cage and waited for the first member of the patrol to pass.

Z'hin maglust dal Qu'ellar lu' Valsharess zhah z'hin wund l' phalar. (To walk apart from House and Queen is to walk into the grave.)

The bread tasted too bland for his taste, but his stomach did not care about what the taste buds thought about it. His stomach growled for more even after the bread was gone, and T'riss could only drink some of the water given him to satiate it. Part of his training had been on surviving on little food, but that did not mean that his stomach would not protest after not having a meal since early morning when it was used to much more than this especially when the Humans were cooking their own meal not far from him. Just as he'd been trained to survive on little to no sleep...that didn't mean that he did not feel tired.

To T'riss the coolness of night was it's own relief to his tired body, and he glanced in the direction of the moon to see if he could see it rise now. That was when his eyes caught movement through the shadows. The Humans would not see it unless they were within a few feet of it, but T'riss could see it plainly as if this were daylight for him. A small female was moving with stealth and a purpose through the camp. He saw only one guard die by the female's hand, but the smell of blood told him of others that also met their end by the woman as she continued to move through the camp.

T'riss remained silent even as the female stood near his cage to remain hidden. He studied her a moment and could tell that she was not a full Human. There were some subtleties that were off for a Human, but he could not be positive. However, it was not his place to determine what or who this woman was, but she was someone whom he felt was a key to this cage. Even his pride was allowing T'riss to feel he should try to find a way to get this woman to help him...even though he knew what that meant.

Sitting up a little straighter, and trying not to wince as his ribs protested any movement, T'riss made a soft noise to try and get the woman's attention.

"You need a distraction...I can draw a guard over here if you wish." he spoke barely audibly so as not to attract attention, yet. "Once you dispose of that one, the other will come believing I did something and will be in prime position for you. The other Humans are too far away to hear, and are most likely talking too loudly with one another." T'riss informed while looking around before looking back over at the woman.

"You need a distraction...I can draw a guard over here if you wish." Eli looked over to the cage. In the dimming light she could see the occupant, some sort of elf by the looks of him. He looked pretty cramped in his cell, definitely taller than her. Not that shorter than her and teller than her was the best was to distinguish height, most people who fell into the former category hadn't hit puberty yet.

His plan was good, and certainly required less patience than hers. Getting the fighting over sooner rather than later would be a good idea. The waxing moon that would provide the main source of light once the night was fully upon them was far from ideal. Eli's night vision wasn't terrible, but her father had most certainly not been a Drow.

"That would help." She responded dryly. It was nice to see someone so motivated towards seeing his captures murdered. Some people just sat there waiting to be rescued, which was hardly helpful if the goal was not to be a slave. And really, who didn't have that goal?

Further down the row of cages the sound of footsteps drew Eli's attention. The first patrolman was approaching. He was limping slightly, probably a souvenir from whoever had attacked the slavers before. Silently the half-breed faded into the shadows, waiting for the man to be drawn within striking distance.

T'riss nodded a little as she agreed to his plan and he moved to push himself to a half-standing position. Moving while stooped like this was nothing out of the ordinary as some of the tunnels of Underdark were short like this. However, the problem was that his side was protesting to the crouched movement he had to use and remain in as he stood at the front of his cage and looked out. The bars of his cage were large enough for him to fit his hands and arms through, but the fact that his wrists were still shackled together made it nearly impossible for him to reach very far out of his miniature prison. However, he wouldn't need to reach far...

Calling out in his native tongue, it was obvious the Human heard and did not understand. T'riss hadn't said anything too insulting, but Humans typically thought Drows were throwing insults at them just by the sound of their language. He supposed it did sound rather harsh to those who didn't understand it. It served it's purpose, though as the man narrowed his eyes on the Half-drow and tromped over to stand a small distance from the front of T'riss' cage.

"Quiet, you! We've had enough trouble from you today, so don't be pressing your luck! Sure, you're worth a pretty penny, but that doesn't mean you can do what you want. Sit down." the Human growled coldly at T'riss who simply glared back at the man. He hated that he had to look up to the guard from his crouched stance, and he honestly couldn't wait for that smug look to turn to shock as the man realized he was dying. Of course, it would have felt so much better were he going to be the one to kill him...

T'riss made a short hissing noise before reaching out quickly and snagging the front of the guard's shirt and pulled him to the cage bars. It was easier considering the man's limp, and he wasn't able to get away. T'riss simply sneered at him as the man worked to get himself away from the bars, and he did something rather stupid: the guard yelled.

Eli didn't understand the words that the elf had called out, but they succeeded in drawing the slaver to the cage and that was all that mattered. With his full attention on the prisoner, the man had no chance of hearing her silent footsteps as she positioned herself behind him. She thrust one of her knives between his ribs, a mortal wound, but not enough to kill him instantly. He needed to get the attention of his friends before he died.

As the man screamed, the half-elf slipped back into the shadows. There was no way of knowing whether the cry would call all four of the remaining slavers, or just a few. It would be best to stick to throwing knives until she was sure of fair odds. Letting the elf out of his cage might have improved her odds numerically, but his occasional wince and strained breathing probably meant that he'd been injured. It was safer for him to stay where he was for now.

There was the sound of running footsteps from two different directions, causing Eli to ready her throwing stance. The first to reach them was a woman who had probably come from the cooking fire. She was struggling to button the front of her blouse, as she stumbled around in the dark. Her sword was sheathed on a belt that had yet to be refastened around her waist. The second was the other patrol, a greasy looking man who carried a torch and a whip. He had a slight stumble in her walk, he'd probably been drinking liberally from the flask strapped to his belt.

The woman stumbled over her fellow slavers body, causing her to yelp and drop her sword. The drunkard was there a few moments later, he nearly dropped his light as he fumbled to grab the whip. Both were visibly frightened, this fight might be easier than she thought. Especially if the two still at the fire were still. . .er. . .occupied.

Z'hin maglust dal Qu'ellar lu' Valsharess zhah z'hin wund l' phalar. (To walk apart from House and Queen is to walk into the grave.)

The sneer on the Half-drow’s face as the Human fell at the front of his cage showed he felt the complete opposite of pity for the man. In fact, he would have probably spat on the man’s dead body if it were not for the fact that others were now coming. The female who’d stabbed the man had disappeared from his immediate sight, but he knew she was still close. He looked up from the fresh corpse at his feet to glare at the two Humans. The woman looked terrified and the drunk was not going to be a match for the female nearby. She’d worked quickly and quietly which was what was needed for now. If T’riss had his way he’d have his sword and would turn the camp inside out, but considering he did not have his sword…and he was in a cage, so his tactics could not be used at the moment.

He threw a few more insults at the drunk in his native tongue again. The woman looked terrified and seemed to be trying to figure out how T’riss had killed the guard while still in his cage and weaponless. He could tell what she was thinking: T’riss wasn’t worth the trouble for the amount of coin they’d get from selling him. Too much risk did not always make profit worth it.

The drunk seemed to gain a little courage in his inebriated state considering he had a whip and would not have to get close to the cage to threaten harm to T’riss. T’riss moved his hands away from the bars as the leather straps snapped at him one and then two times. The drunk laughed and tried again, but T’riss had watched the Human’s movements and moved his arm out of the bars as far as he could manage again. The whip snapped around his arm a few times and with a growl he pulled hard while backing up into his cage a little. The man was heavier than he was, but T’riss was stronger…and sober. He stumbled then fell next to his dead companion, and the woman screamed in terror. Surely the woman’s cries of fright would bring the others…unless they were as drunk as this man who couldn’t get back to his feet the first two times he tried.
