SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

WHAT IS ELENLOND?

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

Name – Zygus of the Heiroans
    Age – 27
    Gender – Male
    Alignment – Lawful Good
    Social Class – Outcast
Occupation – Ississtir (The Ophite term for a blacksmith who can also enchant weapons)
    Race – Ophite
Weapons – Despite knowing how to enchant and use a large variety of weapons, Zygus chooses to carry a spear which he made himself. He named it Ibicella while he made it, and identifies it as female. It is roughly 7 ½ feet tall and carved from strong mesquite. The steel spearhead is decorated with delicate labyrinthine designs. The spear is adorned at the top with Ophite teeth, stuck into the wood with magic, taken from dead enemies after battles. Zygus has only three, two of which are from his time in the tribe, one of which was taken from the male who harassed his sister, Fytha. Other trophies on the spear include a small ruby, a polished lapis lazuli stone, some dangling feathers from hunting achievements and a finger bone taken from a human from when Zygus was still amongst the Heiroans.

Physical Appearance – Zygus is 6’10” and well-muscled, with particular strength in his arms. He is mostly white- quite unusual for his race- with undulating red patterns down his back and strong tail and red flecks across his body. For this, he earned the nickname of Bloodback amongst some. His face is rather less flat than most Ophites, its structure calling to mind that of a dinosaur’s. He has gleaming crimson eyes, full of thought. His chest is scarred- claw marks from his fight with Fytha’s harasser, a wound which made blame impossible to avoid. The scars are now thick and welted, pink without any scales to cover it.
Zygus, as some Ophites do, doesn’t usually wear many clothes- his genitals are internal in any case. Sometimes he will don a shirt and pants if he must, but mostly he chooses to go bare, to display the strength and grace of his body. However, he does wear two gold bracelets, one on each arm. These are thick bands, inlaid with lapis lazuli and decorated with patterns to match those on his spearhead. He made these as well, and enchanted them to be a storage space for magical energy, just in case.

Personality – Zygus is proud, though not enough to be vain or overbearing. He is quiet, rarely speaking and, if he does, his utterances rarely exceed a few words. His style of speech is laconic- he can whip out a short, stinging insult if need be, a witty but brisk phrase. He does not allow himself to be offended and, more than this, he does not allow his sister, Fytha, to be offended.
Zygus generally tries to stay level-headed, restraining his temper and aggression in favour of a few restrained words. This was a quality taught to him by his father, Skurrsis, after he attacked a peer over a small insult- Skurrsis pointed out that it is better to keep friends than to kill them. Even so, Zygus’ temper sometimes breaks, and his calm and quiet façade breaks down into violence. These outbreaks are often destructive, as was the one that led to his departure from home.
Zygus views his own body as relatively dispensable- he is not as afraid of physical suffering or scars as other people are. However, he is very over-protective of others, mostly his sister. He is often self-sacrificing for the safety of others- not to the extent that he becomes servile, but to the extent that he would throw himself in harm’s way if it would protect someone he loves. The bonds he forms are rare but very powerful, as is the one with Fytha. He had a strong connection with his father and was on the brink of forming one with a female named Fersis when he left his tribe.

History – Zygus and his sister, Fytha, hatched at about the same time in the tribe of the Heiroans in the deserts of Ashoka. They grew up together and have always been very close, despite their differences. Zygus was originally set to become a warrior, but his talent for enchantment was discovered when he was thirteen, when he started to make rocks levitate for fun. As a result he was taught to craft weapons, both as a blacksmith and as an enchanter. As his abilities in fighting were also useful, he continued to work as a warrior as well, and was highly revered amongst the Heiroans for this. All throughout his youth, he was supported by his father, who died when Zygus was 25, leaving him rather empty and unhappy. He reached out to a female named Fersis, and was on the cusp of forming an emotional attachment with her when an older male began to blackmail Fytha for suggesting that religious fluidity was possible. When she told him this, he was enraged and killed him. The situation was a messy one- if the others found out why the male was blackmailing Fytha, they’d be thrown out anyways. So, they left, searching for a more accommodating place to stay. Zygus hopes to return some day, partially because he misses Fersis but mostly because the lands of the Heiroans are his home, and he feels daunted by the unfamiliarity of this world.

    Misc. – Some music:
    Azam Ali- Neni Desem
    Axiom of Choice- Raindrops
Gogol Bordello- When Universes Collide (More for immigration-type themes than anything else.)
    Thrice- Firebreather

Note: Fytha's profile is relevant both because it is about Zygus' sister and because it gives more information on the Ophites and their culture.

    Zygus' Abilities

    Abilities Thread

    Simple Abilities
    • Weapons Training – Zygus is trained in a variety of weapons, such as swords, staffs, knives, archery but especially the spear. He is by no means perfect, and his archery is quite weak, but he is graceful enough with a spear.

    • Basic Smithing – Zygus has learned the basics of how to be a blacksmith, and can construct weapons- such as swords, spearheads and the like as well as some armour and jewelry. However, his knowledge is relatively limited.

    • Magical Decorating – Zygus can use magic to carve detailed and nearly flawless designs on bone/ivory, wood, metal and leather. He can also change the colours of sections of these substances, as well as attach objects together or polish stones. His patience and eye for design has led to his art being admired both among Ophites and other races.

    • Enchantment: Strength – Zygus can make materials less likely to break or dent, so that ~2x the force is required to ruin a weapon or armour. It helps to have this renewed every three months or so.

    • Enchantment: Impervious – The enchanted object will repel blood, dirt and rust for a period of six months, whereupon the enchantment must be renewed. This spell is one of those always in high demand, as cleaning swords and armour is always a bother.

    • Enchantment: Accuracy – Zygus can improve the accuracy of long-range weapons such as arrows, javelins, throwing knives, even stones by increasing their range by ~25% and their resistance to crosswinds etc. by ~75% The spell will wear off over a course of about 6 months if the weapon goes unused, faster if it is used repeatedly (as throwing knives would be).

    • Agility – Zygus can move with swiftness and accuracy and is very difficult to topple. Despite his size, he is accomplished at avoiding blows (70%) and is quite good at weaving his way close to an opponent so he can strike a blow. This ability is also good for situations like obstacle courses, stepping stones, weaving through crowds of people etc. but is severely diminished when on slippery surfaces, or when Zygus is tired or injured.

    Intermediate Abilities
    • Snake Strike – While Zygus is already strong, he has the ability to make a sudden, powerful attack. If the blow lands correctly, it can break bones, cut through leather armour, cause damage to metal armour etc. The effects, of course, depend on the type of weapon he is using. It is possible to block this blow, but it may cause damage to the opponent's weapon/body. On an average day, Zygus might be able to land three of these blows per fight. After all, he has to be able to find a good opening and be quick enough to land it.
