SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

Patrick had one day left of his leave on shore, and he wasn’t going to waste it. He’d gotten up early that morning, just as the sun was rising, and left the room that he’d rented at a local inn within the hour. Many of his fellow shipmates preferred to spend their leave with a bottle or a woman, but Patrick was still young enough and full of life that he desired nothing more than to spend the day on land, wandering the streets among normal people, breathing the fresh air, stretching his legs, and possibly meeting a new friend or two.

Patrick got a cup of tea from a local vendor as he walked, drinking his tea and enjoying the coolness of the morning before the sun would fully rise and bring heat to the day. He preferred to be out on the open sea during the middle of hot summer days, but he still wouldn’t trade a day of leave for a day aboard his ship in mid-summer.

Maybe he’d still go swimming, or find a bookstore. He didn’t actually know how to read all that well, but he liked the idea of books and the stories that they held. He could go into the forest or find a pub. The whole of the city and the surrounding area was open to him; what was he to do? For starters, Patrick made his way towards the market, in hopes of finding breakfast. He was wandering the many stalls of food vendors, when his eye was caught not by breakfast, but by a young woman that he saw travelling through the market not too far from his own path.

The thing he noticed about her first was her scar, the one running down the right side of her face. He didn’t notice it because it stuck out or seemed unusual, but because he also had one running down the same side of his own face; the same battle had also taken his right eye. Instantly he wanted to talk to her, and almost went right up to her and asked about it. But that would be rude, incredibly rude, and he usually tried to be polite to women, and sometimes it actually worked. So he came up with a secondary plan.

He walked up to a baker’s stall and bought a few biscuits and sweet rolls in a napkin, nodding joyfully to the vendor as he walked away, trying to make his next path seem completely by chance. He glanced several times out of the corner of his eye at the girl with the scar down her face as he casually made his way closer to her until he was close enough to reach towards her with the open napkin in his hand and a grin across his face. “Care for a strawberry tart or caramel roll?” He had hardly noticed, when the market had separated them, that she was also quite pretty with large, brown eyes, and he matched them with his lone green one as he waited for her response.

Roses are red, violets are blue. This doesn't make sense. Refrigerator.

Makira squinted, using her hand to block as much as the sun as possible. She had not been back on the mainland for long, and she had almost forgotten what the sun looked like. It was a nice day, not extremely hot but not too windy either so she decided to leave the forest and attempt to mingle with actual people rather than wolves; she had terrible people skills that unfortunately had cost her a nice little island. Oh well, she knew she couldn't make the trip back there again in a hurry, so instead she'd focus on talking to people.

She walked down what appeared to be a main street, well either that or it was just some sort of place where many people gathered. She watched fascinated as people walked from this place to that, always in a hurry, always with a purpose. She walked up to a young lady at a jewellery stall, but got nothing but glares from the vendor and the lady. Disappointed, she moved up the street more.

She was so distracted by all the bustling people, that she almost ran into a young male offering her some weird looking food. She started to reply that she did not take odd food from strangers, when she noticed the edge of a scar on his cheek... the right side of his cheek... the same side as hers was on! She found herself transfixed by it, her mouth hanging open as she manoeuvred her head to try and get a better look at the rest of it. Just as she was about to reach out and move his fringe out of the way, she remembered her manners and shot upright.

Pretending she didn't just make anything awkward for the both of them, she held out her hand. "Hi, my name is Makira. I don't take odd food from strangers, I have bad people skills and seeing as you are even talking to me unlike some rude people here, you are going to be my new practice subject." Not realising that what she said might be even the slightest bit rude or weird (or hard to understand because she said it so quick), she tapped her foot in waiting, trying not to look at his scar... or ask him about it for that matter.

Patrick’s smile only widened as she froze in front of him, seemingly transfixed on his face. He thought he saw shock and awe in her eyes, and maybe something more that he couldn’t quite put his finger on. She didn’t exactly hide her surprise at meeting someone with an almost identical scar as her, though at least whatever left her a scar didn’t take her eye with it. He almost said something to that affect out loud to her, but realized it could be rude; they had only just met after all.

He reached out and took her hand and shook it, not even really noticing that there was an awkward moment. As he held her hand in his, he listened to her introduction and explanation about why she wouldn’t eat food he offered, and even state that he was her new project. Her entire little speech caused him to chuckle, partially just because of how fast she had said it, and while she wasn’t exactly sure what she was talking about, he was highly intrigued and more than willing to accept whatever little arrangement she wanted.

“Practice subject. Alright; and what does that entail for me?” Letting go of her hand at last, having held it a bit longer than was probably necessary for a handshake, he took a bite out of the strawberry tart that she had just turned down; no sense it letting it go to waste. He swallowed quickly, not to be rude, and finally remembered to introduce himself; she’d already given him her name. It was only fair to reciprocate. “I’m Patrick, by the way. Or maybe you could just call me Subject X, or something like that.” He grinned again; his smile rarely left his face for long anyway, and he was rather enjoying this encounter already.

“Is there something that you want for breakfast then? I can point you in the direction of a vendor if you like. You look a little lost here.” He wasn’t sure if she would accept food from a vendor either, if she never took food from strangers, but it was that time of day, and some people said that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. He rather liked to think that all mealtimes were the most important meal of the day, including second breakfast and snacks.

“Practice subject. Alright; and what does that entail for me?”

She paused for a moment her head cocked to the side in thought. The problem was that even now as she needed to explain to him what her problem is, she couldn't even think of the right thing to say. It always screwed things up for her.

"Well you see, I need someone to practice my words on actual people. I've been told that my words aren't always correct and that's the result of spending so much time with the..." She didn't want to tell him where she had really spent most of her life. No, she just wanted to be normal. "...wandering... people. No one else wants to talk to me, so I guess you'll just have to do." She smiled at Patrick, proud that she at least sounded semi-normal. He smiled a lot, and that made her feel like she'd made the right choice. Most people were so rude these days, but Patrick was an exception. An exception she was proud to say had a scar like her own.

“Is there something that you want for breakfast then? I can point you in the direction of a vendor if you like. You look a little lost here.”

She bowed her head and watched her feet. She was too embarrassed to tell such a nice person what her 'normal' breakfast included, so she instead chose to twist the truth just a little, so she would at least sound like a normal girl.

"I uh... Well you see Patrick, my idea of breakfast probably differs from yours. I am not use to such strange foods like they have out here. The forest I..." She quickly clamped her hand over her mouth, mentally kicking herself for almost saying where she normally lived. Suddenly an idea formed in her head and she began to giggle. "Oh I'm sorry, I just uh... remembered something funny I was once told... about.... trees. Yeah, trees." She grinned up at Patrick, hoping he wouldn't ask too many questions. She made a mental note to practice her lying skills later.

"Well I am a bit lost here. I don't usually come to cities or towns. I prefer lots of green. I would be very, very not unhappy if you would show me around though. I guess you could probably tell me a bit about this weird food too. I would love to learn things!"

Like she'd seen an older man once do for a young lady, she bent her arm and held it out to her side, hoping she had done it correct so they could link arms. If not, she could always just shake his hand again.
