The weather today was far too hot for her liking. She was a fan of warm, sure, but not hot. Or humid. There was hardly a breeze today either. Maybe later. Ira couldn't help but let a sigh escape her mouth, and she picked up her pace a little. The need to explore was great - as always - but first she wanted to cool off. And fortunately for her, the river was not too far off. Luckily too, the first area she came to was deep and wide. She untied her belt and bundled it together on the grass several feet away from the river's edge, then standing over it, shifted into a whitetail stag. The clothes fell neatly over top of the belt and weapons, and she stepped over to the river to drink. She normally shifted into a buck, rather than a doe, because she liked having antlers and being bigger. Depending on the season and the situation, though, she'd sometimes go for the female variant. That was usually better for running in woods if males had antlers. Not that she did that much but...there was the rare occurrence. Ira lifted her antlered head and shook it, then looked around. It was strange seeing through different animal's eyes, metaphorically and literally. And having some of the same instincts and urges they felt. It had helped her understand them to the point that she could communicate with many of them. It wasn't like she magically knew things about them - she had learned them, as a shapeshifter. A deer didn't see the reds, didn't see the greens...nor was orange noticeable. Blues were easier to pick out, and motion was much easier to detect. But smell...smell was very enhanced. Not only able to pick up scents at a far greater distance, but also that smells were just smells - indicators or warnings, not good or bad. That was something she liked. She lapped up a bit more water, then shifted again; this time into an otter. Then she dived in, splashing around and diving and floating. She also caught a fish and ate it. After maybe an hour, she felt satisfied and shifted now into a female cougar, sitting at the water's edge. Ira had chosen a sandy coloured coat, with some red tints. Her yellow-green eyes peered around, taking everything in, her pupils near-slits in the bright light of day. Then she smelled the scent of human, no, half-elf, male, suddenly close. She stood and spun, mouth open in a fanged grin. |

He had been wandering the woods for a few hours now, looking for somewhere to stay cool. The shelter of the trees was pleasant, and helped a bit, but Soto's powerful heat and humidity were starting to get to him. It had been a while since he had experienced the hot sweltering summers of his home island, having spent a lot of the time of his journey to the Elenlond mainland submerged entirely in water. But he could hear relief in the distance: the soft, light splashing of a forest stream, cascading gently over the polished river rocks, the cool, clear droplets scattering about as they made their way down stream. But he wasn't the only one who had had this idea, apparently, for as he exited the clearing, in front of him stood a cougar, fangs bared, a slight snarl exhuming itself from its throat. Eyes widening, he sidestepped gradually, not sure what to do. He could take care of it easily, of course, but he didn't really want to spend the effort using that on an animal who was just trying to protect itself anyway. He really had more respect for animals than he did for most people, their ways beautiful in their simplicity. But it was then that his foot fell onto something- not grass, nor dirt, nor stone- but clothing. A dark, coarse eyebrow rose for a second before it dawned on him: Another one who could change their form. This was probably a person. From the looks of the clothing, a slender female. Smirking, he planted his foot heavily on the bundle of cloth so that it could not be easily removed. "Well, well... What are we going to do now? You could try to come and take it from me... But I don't see that ending well for you. Just saying." |

Ira stayed rooted to the spot, but as he came closer, he noticed the clothes. In fact, he stepped on them. She took one small step forward, her jaws closed now, amber eyes still glaring at him. Then he did it again. This time she snarled loudly, taking another step forward. But he was right. She huffed, sitting on her rear end and looking away. Luckily he didn't seem to have noticed the weapons below those clothes. They were certainly more valuable, though maybe the katana less so as it was a custom make. "What the hell am I supposed to do here? I'm definitely not changing back. Not in front of anyone. I am so very glad I have a few hiding places here and there, though it's not like stuff is definitely still there...you never know." She opened her mouth and huffed again, getting up and turning away, pacing back to the water's edge, then towards him. Midway, however, an idea sprung into her mind. Oh, how could she be so stupid? Her form got smaller, sandy fur sprouted grey feathers, jaws formed into a beak, and she squawked at the man in front of her. The now African Grey Parrot flew into the air noisily, flapping near his head for a moment before settling on a handy nearby rock. She had no wish to be so small and so far below him. "So. I want my clothes...what do you want?" As expected, her voice was quite annoying. But she tilted her head to the side, her almost white eye staring piercingly at his face. |

The dark-skinned man kept his foot firmly planted on the effeminate clothing as the cougar paced back and forth along the river bank, clearly angry at her predicament. It didn't matter how long she did this, he had all the time in the world. Finally she broke her pattern of pacing and changed again. This time he found himself looking at a parrot. The gray bird took to the wing and settled on a rock before speaking to him. Interesting idea, using the form of a bird who could speak. She was smarter than he had guessed she would be. An even greater smirk spread across his lips as she asked what he wanted. Especially in that voice. Birds sounded really funny talking, and he even laughed at her tones a bit before continuing. "You mean you haven't guessed? I want you to change back into yourself. I'm not going to hand these clothes over to just any talking animal... That wouldn't be right, you know?" |

Ira screeched, flapping her wings. After a moment to settle herself down, she stared at him. "Of course I've GUESSED," she said indignantly, if that was possible for a parrot to do. "Absolutely..." she trailed off, thinking. She moved a little, getting a better grip on the rock's edge. "What about this. I go find a handy bush or tree, or maybe..." She looked down at the rock she was standing on. It seemed large enough. "How about I change. BEHIND this rock. And you stay right THERE. Then I'll peek my head, and it'll be obvious I'm human. I guess you're pretty-" She squawked then, grinning to herself. He really didn't seem that stupid. He was just trying to be an asshole. The shapeshifter sighed internally. A pervert, really. Or a perverted asshole. Yeah, that was it. Well, she supposed she had to be sexist on this argument. He was a guy, and that was it. He just wanted to see naked ladies, so she couldn't really get too angry at him. Maybe he was compensating for something. Fact was, she had to get around that. No one was going to see her until it was the guy in the relationship with her. Or her husband, perhaps. She was far too young for marrying yet, though, or even thinking about it. She flapped her wings as she brought herself back out of her thoughts. She knew she'd only lapsed a few seconds, but still. "As soon as you see me, you toss my clothes over. Or get far away from them; either one." The woman - or really, woman, then deer, then otter, then cougar - turned parrot cocked her head again, regarding him. "I can always just leave too, you know. Then you won't get anything." Of course she had to make it sound like he would get something by giving her her clothes back. Maybe some conversation if she was feeling nice, so she wasn't actually lying. Just not telling the whole truth. |
