SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

WHAT IS ELENLOND?

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

    Razarod
    Angkar's Fallen Lord

The sun was setting on a tiny town on the east coast of Soto. Its name was not important. If you weren't from Soto, you wouldn't have heard of it. Hell, many of the people from Soto who weren't from that part hadn't even heard of it. But here he was. Razarod rode into the city atop his brilliant red and orange steed, which clopped along slowly, as though it were dead tired. And it was. Khanrad had, not long ago, finished a long and tiring journey through the Dosuul Mountains, and needed rest. As did his rider. They had not seen a real bed in ages, not trusting civilized areas until they finally arrived in Soto.

But while such a small town had advantages, such as being less detectable, it also had a disadvantage: less space. A quick stop at the tavern revealed that all the rooms were booked up, and that they did not have space for Razarod or his horse. At one time, of course, he could have gotten that fixed up quickly. He had had both the money and the status necessary to ensure there was always room available for him, even in a country not his own. But no longer. He was supposed to be dead. And if he went throwing his name around, those who had failed to kill him would have what they needed to come after him again.

Dejected, the former king returned to the streets. After his lengthy argument with the innkeeper, the sun had nearly finished setting and darkness shrouded the streets. He was certainly a sorry sight indeed, his hair a bit tangled, and his face very scruffy from the time spent outside of civilization. At least he had found ways to keep bathing. It certainly didn't help, though, that his appearance was made even worse by a sudden onset of rain. Great. Just what he needed. He pulled up the collar on his coat and headed down a residential street, looking around at the houses. Perhaps there was an empty one somewhere? A place he could slip into for the night? Ah, there was one, it looked kinda dark... Maybe no one lived here? He approached it cautiously, checking over his shoulder both ways before getting closer. Razarod could not help but think about how far he had fallen. Once the king of a strong, rising nation. Now living on the streets, or worse, in the wild.

Crunch…crunch… Alyth looked up with hollowed golden eyes glowing like sprite lights in the gloom. Cruuuunnnchhhh… They never wavered, except to watch the curious movements of a piebald rat chewing away at some morsel with long yellowed teeth. Her ears perked forward and twitched convulsively with each crunch and snuffle the rat made which stood out so sharply against the hum of rain.

The rain. How she felt about the rain was complicated at best. It soaked into her fur, weighing it and her spirits down. When it began to dry, as it was now, her fur fluffed out and became frizzy and matted, forcing her to constantly lick it down in annoyance. Still, it smelled good in places like this where it would wash away the dust of the road. The damp weather also forced small animals indoors, as it had with this little rat.

CRUNCH. Fangs as sharp as arrowheads broke through the fragile bones of the rat’s neck. Squelch. Her delicate nose wrinkled in disgust but she ate her meal in silence. Months had gone by before she had last eaten rat, and at least then it had been slightly prepared. Raw meat was delicious when it was snow hare, or perhaps deer, but it was even better cooked. Rat was, well, rat…and raw rat was not appetizing. There was no dry tinder in this ramshackle hut whose kinks and cracks let in spray like a crippled galley on the ocean. Yet she ate the rat’s stringy meat and was silent.

Soon the silence turned to sleep. Exhausted and cold, Alyth curled up in her cloak and became a nearly senseless lump close to the center of the shelter. What little blood she did not clean from herself was soon running wetly into the dirt floor. The rain picked up slightly and slackened off, punctuated every few minutes by a sharp crack of lightning and resounding thunder. Her body twitched slightly, either at the sudden rumble or some dream she would forget on waking. It was for this reason she did not hear the approach of the other until he was nearly at the entrance.

Alyth woke with a start, fumbling around in the gloom for a moment until dream melted into reality before her feral eyes. Forcing her quick breathing to slow she sucked in a few deep breaths. Was that horse she smelled or perhaps something else? Curse this rain… she thought to herself and crouched down so she was less visible in the already dark abode. Sharp claws clicked together somewhat anxiously in her un-velveted paws.

Closer and closer he came to the door, his footsteps falling rather quietly for such a large man. To the door he walked, oblivious to the one dwelling inside, napping, who had been crunching so vigorously a little while before. Both Khanrad and Razarod approached the door and gazed in through the tiny window on the front. It appeared they were in luck. The evening was young, but the entire house was shrouded in darkness inside. The walls were bare and the furniture didn't look well-used in the least. Slowly, his hand reached out, his large, powerful fingers wrapping around the doorknob and turning it gradually, gentle pushing the door open as he slipped inside. Khanrad looked around before changing, in a flash of fire, back into his phoenix form so that he could enter as well.

The giant of a man sipped through the door and shut it gently behind him, pushing his navy blue locks back so that the giant red eagle could find a place to sit on his shoulder. He made his way about the place, going room to room, not noticing anything out of the ordianry. Excellent. It appeared this place was empty.

Or at least it did until he turned around. There was someone here after all... A girl, her eyes glaring at him inside the dark abode, brilliant yellow pupils standing out brightly against the darkness. Slowly, he backed away, but found himself standing against the wall after only a couple of steps, nowhere to possibly go. Khanrad ruffled up his feathers, the feline attributes of the young woman being quite obvious, and quite a big deal to the phoenix. Even mythical birds were still birds, after all. "I'm sorry... I didn't know anyone was in here... I know that doesn't make it right, but..." He couldn't think of anything else to say, and once again felt thoroughly ashamed for even having to resort to this in the first place. His eyes shot to the door, which was too far away to get through before she reached him if she decided to attack. He didn't want a fight, or to hurt anyone, but what could he do? So he stood there, as still as he could possibly be, waiting for a response. Hopefully not a violent one.
