SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

Elation. The gentle caress of the wind against her face. The feeling of weightlessness. Those were her favorite things about flying. She could feel the giant wings beating beside her, soft feathers beating lightly against her legs as the muscles beneath her worked, lifting the appendages up and down. Around her legs, a skirt blew in the wind, laying against the brown hide of the animal she sat atop. A tall woman sat perfectly balanced on her mare, a practiced pose helping her stay easily on its back. Black hair whipped behind her, revealing the slightly tipped ears that usually stay hidden behind her black locks. With her hands lightly holding onto the vines in her lap, she leaned forward slightly, using her legs to balance herself as she moved one hand to the mane before her. It softly touched the hair and fingers ran through the individual strands as she spoke, voice lifted above the wind. "I hope you aren't tiring, dear friend."

The chestnut hair beneath her rippled slightly as the equine seemed to almost laugh, pawing the air and turning her head around to look at her friend. The warm eyes seemed to smile at her, the dark brown hair blowing across the spoon-shaped white on her forelock. Around her head and across her nose was a light rein, made of vines from the island they had left from. "When I am tiring, you will know." Turning her head around again she looked forward as she pumped her wings again, pushing them forward. Her front hooves were tucked under her chest and hind legs were hanging behind her slightly, tail blowing in the wind as they flew on. The woman atop the pegasus sat back slightly, relaxing and keeping that perfect balance. She had had so much practice it was like second nature to her. They were one when in the air, and nothing was going to get her off.

They had been staring at nothing but water the last few hours, and the woman felt her eyes dropping slightly from weariness. Her rump was already numb and she could feel the toes on her feet slowly falling asleep, the feeling creeping up her feet and up her legs as they continued on. The wind had tangled her hair behind her, and she didn't even care if her skirt crept up too much while they flew. The only thing she could think about was land. Ground. Earth, beneath her feet. She had never been attuned with air, and being up in it for so long always left her feeling slightly drained. Her unusual eyes closed as she imagined how it felt to have soil between her toes, branches reaching out to grab at her hair as she walked past them. The murmuring of the trees around her as they chatted to one another or spoke words of greeting to her. On her small island she knew them all. After all, it wasn't very big, and she had been there for so long that she had the time to get to know what all was there. During her stay she had expanded the jungle she lived in, growing more and more trees until they encompassed most of the land. Oh her trees. Oh the grass, and the dirt and the soil. She missed it all.

Eyes fluttered opened as she looked down at the space below them. She sat up and nearly knocked herself off balance as she saw the dark color below them. There was no more water. No more ocean for them to fly over. She scanned the area and could spot trees, large and small, littering the ground. She let out a small squeal of delight. "Oh Sun, look! Look, there's foliage down there!" The woman leaned forward and reached her arm out next to the pegasus' neck, finger pointed to the ground beneath them. The equine spotted her finger out of the corner of her eye and she turned her head down slightly, letting out a soft snort. "Yes, and too much for me to land in. I have to keep going until I can find a place to land. Landing in trees is hard enough with just me, adding you to the mix, mistress, would be very difficult indeed."

With a small nod, the woman sat back slightly, eyes still scanning the ground beneath them. She felt a little better now that they flew over ground rather than water. Though she had learned to work with water, she had always been on ground working with it, and never surrounded by it completely. Beneath them, thick trees covered almost all that she could see. Just below them, a large lake sat between the trees, and off to the east and north, a large waterfall, hidden amongst the foliage. The equine turned slightly to the south as they continued east and the woman could see coming up a grand city. Her eyes continued to scan the area before she felt the horse below her start to drop slightly. She looked back at her friend before looking ahead of them. There was a break in the trees ahead, and vast fields stood before them.

She could already tell they were descending before she saw the clouds around them. She gripped the reins in her hand slightly in anticipation of landing. They neared the ground and the wings by her legs started to beat more as they were soon only a few hundred feet from the ground. The closer they got, the more his wings beat and soon the equine was running on ground, wings spread out slightly as they slowed to a walk and then, finally, to a stop. Hesitantly, the woman slid off of the pegasus and onto the ground, letting out a sigh as her toes curled under her slightly, blades of grass between the toes. She twirled slightly before falling backwards and into the grasses, stretching her arms out to her sides and closing her eyes.

"Grass, wonderful grass." She said as she laughed, feeling the blades tickling her face. Beside her, the pegasus had proceeded to frolic around the field, getting used to being on feet again. She dropped to her side and rolled around in the grass, wings folded up against her body. The woman sat up and watched her for a moment before she stood up and smoothed out her skirt and blouse, looking around her and letting out a sigh. "Well all right, Sun. Now we need to find another person. I have to see if what I heard is correct. My history is a little... fuzzy." She said as she walked over to her friend. The horse stood up and looked at her mistress as she walked up and put a hand on her neck. "Do you think you'll be able to find someone, mistress?" The woman smiled.

"Don't worry, I'm sure there will be someone here that can get us up to date with what's been going on. They've got to know their own history after all. Why wouldn't they?" She turned to her friend beside her and smiled, patting her neck lightly. She took a breath and looked around her, trying to remember what she saw from the sky and where she should start first. To her immediate right and west of her were tall mountains, and she knew that wouldn't be the place to look. She turned to the southeast and remembered seeing a town there. Maybe that would be the best place? But what was north of her? She turned around and looked to the north, hoping to maybe see something. Anything. And yet, she couldn't tell. All she could see around her besides the mountains was grass. Lots and lots of grass. Her only option was to walk southeast. Toward the town. She wasn't going to ride, for her equine had already had a long flight. She didn't want to tire her anymore than she already was.

And so she began moving forward, toward the town she knew existed. Toward the place she thought someone could possibly reaffirm the history she seemed to know nothing about.

    Razarod
    Angkar's Fallen Lord

Razarod sat astride Khanrad, in the form of a large gorgeous stallion, red and orange in coloration, heading to the southeast as well, towards that same town, but moving quite a bit faster than Lilly, as Khanrad burst across the plains at full speed, looking to get to the town before nightfall.

This new life was wearing on Razarod. What was he supposed to do with himself? He'd been mostly avoiding people, ashamed of what had become of him. Stripped of all that was important to him, and left with nothing. Nothing but his life. And that was something. But there was another reason he kept to himself: He was afraid of being recognized. He wasn't as well-kept as he was before, and had grown rather scruffy, so he wasn't instantly recognizable unless you really knew what he looked like, or were able to get really close, but he was a big man with features that stood out. Hiding wasn't exactly easy when you were Razarod Evermore. And hiding felt so... wrong. It wasn't him. He wasn't one to hide from an issue, but to fight it. But there was nothing there he could fight. What was he supposed to do, knock on Orion deLacey's front door and challenge him to a duel? Him and his entire army? That would work out fine, he was sure.

He got so caught up in his thoughts he almost didn't see her there. Which was quite a feat, and she was hard to miss. Tall, slender, muscular, and elven, she was difficult to miss, straight ahead in his path. Standing alongside a pegasus, even. How had he not seen that instantly? Quickly, the horse came to a halt, only a few steps before he would have disastrously plowed into her at top speed. That was close. He wouldn't have been able to live with himself had he ran her over... It was a good thing Khanrad had been paying attention to where he was going. "I'm terribly sorry about that... Are you okay?" His face flushed awkwardly as he was torn between eye contact and avoiding her eyes, unsure of which to do, so switching back and forth between them. "I really should have been paying more attention to where I was going... Luckily my horse is not as inept as I." He petted Khanrad's mane, not mentioning that the horse was actually a shape-shifting phoenix as to avoid further suspicion.

The more they walked, the more the woman realized that riding Sun was taken for granted. After having been off of her feet for hours, and now having to walk on them, she realized how much her feet actually hurt. The one good thing was that they were walking on grass, and that eased the hurt. The gentle breeze caught her skirt and hair and she reached her hands up, pulling her hair together and then moving it over her shoulder, running her hands through the tendrils to get rid of the knots the earlier flight had caused. Every time she hit a snag she grimaced, working it out with her fingers and finally running her hand down with few tangles.

She continued like this as they walked on, the mare beside her walking steadily and keeping them on track. With her wings folded against her back, it was almost not noticeable that she was a pegasus, as the wings were the same chestnut color as the rest of the hair on her body. Sun tossed her head slightly, the vine reins around her face and neck shaking. The woman stopped and turned, looking at her friend beside her. "Oh, Sun, I'm sorry. Let me take those off of you." She stepped up to the horse and easily slipped the vines from her face and rolled them up, attaching them at her waist. It was then that the mare lifted her head, catching something on the wind. Some noise that caught her attention. She turned her head and looked behind them, ears straight forward and turning ever so slightly every so often. Something was coming. And quickly.

The woman turned and scanned the horizon for whatever it was that had caught Sun's attention. It didn't take her long to see the large figure coming at them at a remarkable speed. She stood there, her head turned to the side slightly as she lifted her hand to block out the blinding sun. Her feet stood firm as the large figure moved closer to her, and soon it was only a few feet away. Sun beside her unfolded her wings and pawed the earth slightly, sidestepping and moving her feet should she need to get out quickly. The woman, on the other hand, stood her ground as she watched the figure move closer. She could somewhat determine what it was. A large figure with something upon it. A horse? But the colors were all wrong. And a man on its back?

The horse came to an alarmingly quick stop, digging up some of the earth beneath it. Lilly looked down at the ground before looking back up at the horse, and then the man behind its head. He was large, or perhaps just looked so atop as grand a stallion as stood before her. She found herself scanning over his face, though scruffy and unkempt it was. Yet even looking upon him she wouldn't recognize him. She hadn't known many people from this new world before she had left and gone to her own island.

His voice was somewhat surprising. An apology? It seemed so strange to her. Then again, she didn't hear much apologies where she had lived. She raised an eyebrow slightly as she watched his eyes dart from her own eyes and away. A small smile reached her lips as he spoke and she shook her head. "I'm fine. You are still feet away from me. Your steed did its job stopping when it did."

From behind her she heard a snort. Sun had folded her wings back up and had stepped up behind her mistress. Her eyes were watching the horse before her carefully before she shook her head a little. Yet she said nothing. The woman turned over her shoulder and looked at her mare before looking back at the man before her. Perhaps he could tell her about the history she so wanted to know about?

"I wonder, do you think you could help me with something? My history is a little fuzzy, and I was originally heading to..." Her voice dropped slightly as she turned to look in the direction of the town behind her. And yet, she didn't know the name so she couldn't say where. "Well actually, my geography is a little fuzzy as well." She turned back around and looked at the man before her. "Perhaps you could maybe fill me in? I've been away for... for quite some time."

    Razarod
    Angkar's Fallen Lord

Razarod's reddening face relaxed a bit as the lady brushed off the encounter. Something seemed off about her demeanor, he noticed... Like she wasn't used to talking to people. Or at least, was more used to... different... people. His answer came when she spoke again: Apparently she had been away for a long time. Long enough to need some kind of history lesson.

How ironic she had stumbled upon such a great person for a lesson in recent Elenlond history. Razarod, having been involved in much of it, knew a thing or two about it. But how much could he tell her? He reckoned it would be okay to tell her things that most anyone would know. Perhaps even things that the more knowledgeable people would know. He would just have to be careful. Careful not to say too much. Careful not to accidentally reveal to her who he really was. If she was unaware, he was safe, and he didn't want to do anything to spoil that.

The giant of a man dismounted his steed, which stood taller and shook its mane about proudly, as if showing itself off to the two of them, before walking over a bit closer to the other horse. Khanrad gave a couple of sniffs to the pegasus and then trotted off into the grasses nearby to graze and explore until Razarod was finished, but never straying very far in case of an emergency. "I would be able to answer your questions, I imagine. Although that would depend a bit on what you want to know, and how long you've been away." He chuckled a bit before continuing. "A year? Two? I have to say, a lot has changed in the last couple years. It's astonishing how different things are. Especially in Morrim.... That place has been through a lot." His expression suddenly became inquisitive. "You don't know where you're headed either? Where exactly have you been?"

Blue and green eyes watched the towering man dismount, and even with her tall frame she had to look up slightly. Her eyes moved to Khanrad as he moved up to Sun. The mare snorted and raised her head away from the other horse, nostrils flaring slightly as her eyes followed the snout of the stallion. She didn't move as the horse sniffed her before backing away. The pegasus flapped her wings before settling them against her back, lowering her head down to just beside the girl's arm. Her chocolate eyes watched the oddly colored horse as it contently grazed a few feet from them. "There's something strange with that horse, mistress. I would be wary." The mare nudged the woman's arm.

Lilly smiled slightly at her pegasus' comment, lifting her hand and putting it underneath the mare's face, up and around to place it lightly on the mare's cheek farthest from her. She lifted her other hand and started to stroke the other cheek softly. The woman then looked up at the man as he spoke. Slowly, the more he spoke, her lips turned down into a frown. How long had she been away? It never even occurred to her to keep track. It had to have been a long time. And yet, there was nothing she could have done to keep time. It seemed almost as if time here moved differently than what she was used to. The man mentioned her lack of knowledge of geography and she felt her cheeks redden slightly.

"Oh dear." She said softly before dropping her hands from Sun's face. "It seems I should explain things as well." She paused for a moment before looking back up at the man before her. "How about we take a rest? It looks as if the two of us have been traveling for some time and could possibly use it." She turned and looked at her friend beside her. "Sun, you go graze. Goddess knows you probably need something to munch on after our long journey." The pegasus looked at Lilly before turning her eyes and looking at the stallion, letting out another snort before she moved off to their left, staying somewhat at a distance from the strange horse, but also sticking close to her mistress, should she need anything. She would be, of course, listening in to what they were talking about and paying attention to everything.

The woman turned and scanned the area around her. Softly she muttered things to herself as her eyes scanned the grasses, searching. The soft breeze that blew through the plains tossed the grasses this way and that, and after only a few seconds she spoke. "Aha!" She said as she stepped forward two steps before bringing her feet together and kneeling down, taking a few long-stemmed white flowers from in the grasses. She ran her hand along the petals for a moment before speaking. "Would you like some tea? I feel it's always nice to speak when enjoying a hot cup of tea." She stood and turned, showing him the flowers she had caught. "Chamomile, of course." She said as she pulled the flowers off of the stems and held her other hand out. It was the first time she revealed the small tattoo on the inside of her wrist, a leaf, a dark green contrast to her tanned skin. She looked down at the flowers in her hand and reached to her waist, where she had packed a pouch of some of her things from the previous home. She had two cups hanging at her waist, a pouch of water, and in the pouch beside that, just a few odds and ends, some sentimental things as well.

She turned and sat in the grasses, legs to her side as she set the cups on the ground in front of her and the flowers in her hand, closing her eyes and speaking a few words, a soft glow emitting from her hand for a few seconds before she opened her hand and held a few now dried flowers in her palm. She dropped them into the cups and started pouring water into them. "I suppose now is as good a time as any to start. You asked me how long I have been gone, and I cannot give you an actual number of years. As for where I was, I have been living on, if I remember the name correctly, the Island of Daro." She finished pouring the water and she capped her water pouch, setting it aside before lifting one of the cups and putting her other hand underneath it, focusing for a moment before a small fireball appeared in the hand underneath the cup, leaving it close to it to heat the water.

"Perhaps an introduction would help? My name is Lilly. And when I left, I held the title of Earth High Priestess." She smiled before looking up at him, closing the hand over the fireball and reaching her arm out, holding the steaming cup of tea out to him.

    Razarod
    Angkar's Fallen Lord

Razarod allowed a bit of a smirk to spread across his face as the woman suggested they take a break there while she explained things to him. "Long story, is it? Take your time." But the train of thought was interrupted as she broke from him and began searching the immediate area for something. But what? His question was answered when she drew up some flowers from the earth and offered him some tea. "Tea? Sure, that sounds good..." He couldn't help but notice the small tattoo on her wrist, a leaf, in a green color that stood out quite a bit from her skin. What was it's purpose? Was it a mark of her religion, perhaps? Or perhaps some sort of guild?

Razarod lowered his large frame to the ground, sitting in front of her, watching as her hand glowed with a magical radiance that drained the flowers of their moisture. Finally she spoke again as she began preparing the beverages. How strange, not to know how long she had been away from the mainland. Did time really fly by that quickly? He had never known Daro to conceal time from anyone, not in the way the Ruins of Storms had. He shuddered just a tiny bit as he remembered living out many days under the bleak veil of the torrential downpour, so thick that sunlight was lost to all who would dwell there. "Daro, eh? Can't say I've ever been there, but I know of it. Did you lost track of time because of something regarding Daro? Or has it just been that long?" He took the cup she offered him, taking a sip of the liquid contained within. "Impressive, especially since you made it in the middle of nowhere." He smiled, taking another drink.

And then she introduced herself. Lilly. A former priestess of the earth goddess Jaida. Now he really wondered how much she knew. Had she been here when the gods and goddesses fell from power? Or was, for all she knew, her former master Jaida still in the same position she had always been? If that was the case, he really was not looking forward to being the one to break the news to her. Or the news that Jaida had not been seen for years, and nor had many of her former colleages.

But then an even more terrifying thought rose to his head: He had to introduce himself now. His anonymity had been safest, and he had never thought of what to do when asked for his own name. Quickly he searched his mind and, glancing over at his phoenix in horse form munching on grass, he said the first name that came to his mind: "Lilly, is it? You can call me Khanrad..." His eyes sunk away, temporarily unwilling to meet hers. How much he hated pretending to be someone else. This was wrong. He was supposed to be strong and proud. The real Khanrad seemed to echo this sentiment as he glanced over towards Razarod, snorting derisively and even appearing to raise an eyebrow for a split second before returning to grazing. The phoenix couldn't help but wonder why the pegasus would not come near him. He thought he made a fine-looking horse indeed, although he much preferred his natural shape. "Well, tell me... When you last were here, was Jaida in power as a Goddess? Because if not, I hate to tell you this, but... They have fallen from power. They no longer hold their positions, and many have gone their separate ways." He hated having to tell her this so quickly, but if she didn't know, it was best to get it over with.

"If time works strangely on Daro, then I wouldn't know. Especially not if I've been living there for as long as I'm afraid I have been." A smile touched her lips as he complemented her tea. "When one has lived their life as I have, one gets to know how to do things with the resources allotted them." Lilly picked up her glass and began heating the water in the same manner she had heated his. Her eyes watched him as he processed her name. Something about what she said sparked a memory in him and made him nervous. She could tell from his eyes as they moved to the stallion he had traveled with. The man before her spoke his name as she finished heating her cup, raising it to her lips and blowing on it as her eyes watched his avoid her gaze. Strange. Either he didn't like looking at people, which was probably not the case as he had been looking at her the past few minutes, or he wasn't telling her the full truth. But she wouldn't press it. Trick him out of it, perhaps, but she wouldn't outright accuse him of it.

The pegasus seemed to echo her suspicion. "He does not speak with complete honesty, mistress. Something about his eyes tells me that." She spoke only to Lilly, and moved her eyes to the stallion. With a shake of her mane, she let out a soft snort before turning slightly to look away from the beast. Lilly took a sip of the warming liquid, smiling as it rolled down her throat and warmed her body from the wind. The man before her spoke again and Lilly's blue and green eyes looked over at him. His words were surprising, but didn't shock her. Her eyes dropped slightly as she sighed and lowered her cup.

"I was afraid of that." Lilly's voice was soft, with a small hint of melancholy in it. Having overheard, the pegasus stepped up to them with soft footfalls. Her chocolate eyes gazed at the man before her, and she spoke, this time allowing both of them to hear her words. "And Mistress Jaida? What has become of her?" She had her head down close to Lilly's and about even height with Razarod, or Khanrad as he had called himself. The woman reached her hand out and matted the mare's nose lightly. "Hush, Sun. We will find out later. First I have some questions that I must answer." Sun laid down behind Lilly, wrapping her head around to the Priestess' side as she listened to the two of them. She was interested now, and short of the earth ripping apart, nothing would tear her attention away.

With the cup in her lap, Lilly began her story. "I'll answer some of your questions before telling you my full story. I suppose it's a long one, but I do not really know how long it truly is. Yes, I have been on Daro for long enough that I lost track of how long it's been. And yes, when I was last here Jaida was in power. Jaida, Shadow..." Her voice trailed off for a moment, lost in a memory of past times, when her friends and other gods and goddesses were in power. She blinked back to the now and looked up at Razarod and continued. "I lived through a great many heartaches. Through a great many trials. I lost much in the Great Migration, when our previous world collapsed into itself. I suppose that's what they're still calling it. I was here to help the immigrants from Mianor get settled into this new world. And yet as others started their new lives, I could not. Though I was among friends, I could not find peace with myself. Loss was so fresh to me that I couldn't bear staying here where everyone was having such good times. Where everyone was moving on with their lives, but me. So I left."

Her eyes lifted to the sky as she fought through her memory. "It must have been around the summer solstice that I left. They were planning a big celebration to commemorate the new land and give everyone something to be joyous about." She smiled slightly and looked back at him. "I'm not sure how long ago that was. So I was excited to find someone to fill me in on what all I missed. To complete my timeline, as it were." She paused. "How versed are you in history, Khanrad?"

"Yes, that's still what they call it. It's not something people talk about too much any more though. It's been a couple years since their fall from power now. And a lot has happened since then. They don't hold the center stage anymore. Well, some of them do. But now the world is run by the people, not the deities. Some of them just happen to live on as very important people." Hearing her reaction to the mention of the gods falling from power, and their names, he decided some comfort was in order. "I have seen a few of them around though. MidnightShadow lived in Angkar last I heard. Sphynx is in Soto. Aya... disappeared not too long ago. Not that I terribly miss her." Careful Razarod. Letting the bitterness show was a step to slipping up and revealing too much to her.

"Ah, the Summer Solstice Ball!" Razarod decided this conversation needed to be put back on a happy note. "I remember that. Was a lovely celebration indeed. A shame you didn't make it." He smiled warmly, remembering the better times. Before any Dark Conquest, before either he or Kenna had ever thought of straying from one another... Why had it had to end? Damn, there he was, thinking miserable thoughts again. As much as he tried not to, they wouldn't leave him alone. They just wouldn't get out of his head, no matter how deeply he tried to hide them. "But if you want to know history since then, I can definitely help you out. It's something I've paid pretty close attention to. Exactly what is it you would like to know, Lilly?"

The smile that once sat on her lips slowly started to fade at his first words. "It doesn't surprise me that people don't talk about it. A lot happened back then. There was so much loss. Pain. Hurt." Lilly's eyes moved downward as she spoke, the carefree person she normally was seemed to be gone from her eyes, and was replaced with sadness. A melancholy look took over her face as the past crept back to her. It had been so long since she had thought about it that she didn't realize how much it pained her. The pegasus behind her turned and looked at her mistress, nudging her gently with her snout as she spoke aloud to everyone. "The past is the past. It is useless to dwell on that which we cannot change."

With Sun's words, Lilly smiled softly and turned to look at the mare beside her, patting her nose softly. "You're right, my friend." She smiled and the light returned to her eyes slightly, giving her almost the same glow as before she had thought of her memory. Lilly turned to look over at the man before her. "I suppose I owe you an explanation after how I just acted. You see, before the fall of the world, I was due to be married." She said nothing more, instead lifting her cup and taking the last drink of tea. If he asked, she would tell him more, but she didn't want to reveal it of her own volition.

When he spoke of the Goddesses, she smiled. Hearing her old friend's name, and the fact that she was still living and around, gave her hope that she would see her again. Her eyes brightened slightly more as she spoke again. "That's good. I do long to see my old friend. Whether she remembers me or not will be the question." The talk about the ball and how it was a good time had by all kept her smile on her lips. She was glad everyone was able to have a good time despite what had happened. But something he had said earlier made her brow furrow as she thought more about it. Her eyes turned to him.

"Run by the people? How does it work that way?" She tried to get her mind around how things would work with the people running it. She remembered all of the crazy people from her world and couldn't imagine those kind of people running this new world they lived in. She snapped out of her thoughts when he asked his question. Good point. What exactly was it she wanted to know? She had already heard most of it. Was there something specific that she was trying to find out? Her eyes traveled down slightly as she almost seemed to search her brain for some specific question. But she shook her head and smiled.

"I don't know exactly what I want to find out. I just feel like I should know something about this world before coming back to it entirely. I don't know any of the history since I left. I don't even know where I am, or where I was headed to. The only thing I remember about geography is the island I landed on so long ago." She paused a moment. "Exactly how long ago was that, anyway?"

The former king could not help but laugh at her first question. "It works just fine!" She really must have been away for a long time. "The people here in- in Elenlond lived for quite a while just fine before the gods of Mianor even showed themselves, and they are doing just fine now. Not to mention Angkar, which never received any influence from the gods at all, under Razarod Evermore's rule." He had to be careful to keep the telltale pride out of his voice as he spoke of that part... Despite his good relationships with many of the deities, he was still proud to this day that he had led Angkar though a time when they lived in fear of the deities, and never had a single city on the entire island nation succumb to their influences. Angkar had always remained proud and independent under his watch. "Maybe it's because I knew some of them personally, but I always saw the gods as being just particularly powerful people myself, really. Powerful people who have done great things, but have never been perfect."

He took another several sips of tea before continuing. "Besides, I think Shadow's happier this way. But anyway..." He took another sip and a deep breath. "For a while, time was... different. It moved faster for the earth than it did for us. We call those years BR, or Before Restoration. Those go up to 121, before they become AR, or After Restoration. The gods began falling around... I would say, 100 BR. Now, even though between 100 and 121 BR sounds like 21 years, and felt like it at the time, we barely aged at all. If you can find a decent library or academy, they could explain it much more thoroughly than I. There's some formula to explain it if you're interested... But the point is, it's 5 AR now. We've only aged a few years since then. Maybe five, six? But to the world, and the way we felt it... It was I'd say... about 27 years ago." He looked down, hating to break this to her, unable to imagine what she was thinking now. "I'm sorry. I couldn't know what it's like, to be gone from everyone for so long..."

Almost thirty years. And she had said something about having been engaged to be married... But he did not want to push that yet. This conversation was already destined to bring up unwelcome truths and many memories, both fond and hurtful. She did not need him to make things any worse by digging for answers she did not feel like giving.

Razarod had tried to hide it, but Lilly could tell there was something in the way he had said the name that meant there was something behind it. His words had given no hint, but Lilly had always been good at listening at tones. That's all she could do where she had been. Listen to the trees. The flowers. The grass. The way he spoke, it almost sounded like admiration. Had he just said the first name it would have been different, but saying the full name the way he did, there was something he wasn't telling her. She could feel the corners of her lips curl up very slightly, but she didn't say anything about it. She would save it for another time. As for what he had said, she would definitely have to experience what life was like with the people ruling. She wanted to walk the streets of a city to see how things were different. Mostly she just wanted to be around people again. Trees and plants are good company, but one misses human interaction after so long. Perhaps she could convince this man before her to go with her to... Well, to wherever it was she was headed to.

Her green eyes almost narrowed when he spoke of the gods as being just powerful people. But something else caught her mind instead and she raised an eyebrow. He had known them personally? If it had been when they were still in power, he himself had to have been in a position of power, as they would have been busy trying to help out their citizens that had just picked up and moved worlds, not to mention trying to get a hang on the new world they moved into. Could it have been that he was this Razarod Evermore? It would make sense, the way that he said the name. But she wouldn't say anything just yet. Maybe she could get it out of him?

Lilly couldn't believe her ears how long she had been on that island. Thirty years! She definitely wouldn't be surprised anymore if Shadow did not remember her. The explanation behind the years was most definitely confusing, but Lilly figured she could always find out more. "Thirty years then, huh?" She said as she looked up at him. "I must have missed so much." She paused for a moment before speaking again, the words that came out almost a surprise for her. "I can't believe he's been gone that long." Her eyes had moved out of focus to look past Razarod at nothing. Behind her Sun nudged her shoulder. "You see, there is no reason to have dwelt on the past for such a long time, Mistress. It is come time to move on."

Lilly turned to her companion and smiled, patting her on the nose softly. "I know, Sun. I think I've been able to." Once again she turned to Razarod before her. "Again, we are having a one sided conversation, and I apologize for that. Let me explain a little bit better. I know you know of the Great Migration. And I told you before that I was due to be married before the world fell. When the time came that the world was splitting and everyone was in a panic, we were on our way to meet up with the Goddesses and migrate to what they thought would be a better world. Riffs were opening up everywhere. I had put some kids on Sun and she was trotting ahead of us to get them to safety. I was following behind the group and in front of Cannon. In an instant I heard a loud ripping sound behind me and all around me. The next second I was pushed forward and on the ground. When I turned around..." She paused, closing her eyes and taking a breath. "When I turned around, Cannon was hanging onto the edge of the earth. He looked at me and told me he'd always love me. Then he fell."

She turned her eyes and looked up at him during the last sentence. There were no tears. She had cried for him for thirty years. There was sadness, but not nearly as much as there had been. It didn't hurt as much as Lilly thought it would to say it. To relive it. She was glad that finally she had jumped that hurdle in her life and was ready to move on. Cannon would want it. He would wish it for her. In her pouch was the ring he had given her. That would be her only memory of him. The only thing that she kept that reminded her of her old life. With a smile she focused her attention back to the man before her. Hopefully her tale would not make him think less of her or make him take pity on her.

    Razarod
    Angkar's Fallen Lord

Razarod sat, a bit awkwardly, as she spoke again, to no one in particular. He hated having to have been the one to break this news to her. He knew this would be how he himself would be feeling years from now, as he missed the chance to watch his daughter grow up. There's wasn't much else for him to do other than sip his tea some more, soon draining it entirely as Lilly turned to the pegasus and spoke to it again, a conversation completely one-sided to Razarod, as he could not hear a word that the horse was saying.

Finally she turned to face him again, and Razarod set his glass down, listening intently as she relayed her story. He could not help but feel bad for Lilly, having lost her fiancee in such an accident. Although their stories were not the same, this was something Razarod could relate to. He himself had spent so much time with the love of his life, only to lose her once, get her back, and then only a few months later, lose her all over again. But at the same time, he had to admire her. Her and her husband-to-be had been rather heroic in his last moments, and for so long she had pushed on. And she would be pushing on for much longer, he knew, for he could tell simply from looking at her two things: One, that she did not look at all like thirty years had passed, and two, that she was at least partially elven. This meant she would live far beyond the lifespan of any human, including himself. Suddenly his own loneliness he would be facing seemed like nothing compared to her future. Yet here she was, keeping on, not shedding a tear.

Razarod's hand went out and took hers in itself, his fingers wrapping themselves around her lithe hand. "If there's one thing I can understand, it's losing a loved one. I've experienced that myself recently... They're still alive, yes, but... I have no idea where. And I don't think they really want to be found." Despite the situation he was speaking of, a bit of a smile crept over his face. "But I think it's really amazing how you've held on so well for so long. Much better than many would be able to." "Myself included," he thought. "It gives a man hope, you know?" Suddenly he realized how he had been holding onto her hand the whole time, and was suddenly afraid that his actions might come off the wrong way. He couldn't go getting involved with someone right now... could he? Even if she was at all available or interested, which he had no reason to believe she was. What was he doing? The man's face flushed a bit as his fingers began to open and slowly retract.

In their small silence, Lilly looked to the ground, reaching her hand out and running her fingers through the grasses. They tickled her fingertips and curled around the appendages. Just a calming gesture that grounded her. Her eyes watched the blades as they touched her skin and a small smile appeared on her lips. It wasn't until her eyes caught his hand out of the corner of her eye as it moved to hers that she moved her eyes to follow something else. When his strong fingers wrapped around her own she turned her head up and looked at him. His words both made her feel slightly better and yet raised questions at the same time. However, the questions disappeared for the moment as she saw his smile. As she heard his compliment her own smile brightened slightly. That he could tell her something so personal made Lilly feel better.

The elf's eyes turned down to their hands again and she watched his fingers retract. Before he could pull his hand away she took it between her two softly, trailing her eyes back to his face. She didn't notice the flush of his cheeks but she smiled at him and lightly squeezed his hand. "Thank you. It means a lot to hear that my strength is inspiring." Her eyes looked past him and at nothing. "I know now that he died for a reason. It wasn't for naught. It was like he had a purpose living and dying where he did, you know?" Her eyes moved back to look at Razarod.

Lilly released his hands and pulled her own back to her legs, laying the hands across one of them. She turned her eyes down for a moment before looking back up at him. "How did you lose your family? If you don't mind me asking. I hope it doesn't cause too much grief to talk about it." She paused for a moment. "Who was it you lost?"

Before he could pull his hand back, Razarod found it clasped between Lilly's soft palms. This did nothing to help his blushing subside, so he sat there, the smile remaining on his face, until she spoke again. This question was... hard. What did he say? He couldn't mention any names, but he really did not want to lie to her... Being able to show some modicum of honestly felt good, and he did not want to have to stop, nor did he wish to be dishonest towards her after she had shared something so personal with him...

Until recently... I was married. But, a bit over a year ago... I was unfaithful. And then she was unfaithful. For a while it seemed like we were going to work things out, but then... It all fell apart. We both said some pretty cruel things, and... she left home. She took our daughter with her. We're not married anymore, and it's been over a couple months now since I've seen either of them. She doesn't want to be found, and even if she did, I'm pretty sure she isn't expecting to ever see me again." He couldn't just blurt out the reason, though: Kenna thought he was dead. She never expected to see him again because, as far as she was concerned, he wasn't even alive anymore. "I just... feel like we both made so many mistakes that we unnecessary, we both did so many things that we shouldn't have... I want to take so many things I've done in the last couple years back."

With all the emotion welling up, he felt like he'd let too much slip... Maybe it would be better to just tell her. What was the harm? She knew so little of the world today that there wasn't much she could do... And she was bound to start asking questions he could not otherwise answer anyway. It was probably better to be honest than to cast more suspicion on himself.

It was just then he realized how hot he really was sitting here in the field. Riding atop Khanrad had provided him with a pleasant breeze but sitting here in the sun, this coat was far too heavy. He quickly shed the massive garment and lay it on the ground beside him. Beneath he had been wearing what used to be a plain black button-up shirt, but due to the many weeks spent roughing it, the sleeves had been removed and nearly all of the buttons were missing, the one or two that were left he did not even bother to fasten. "Lilly... I must admit I have not been completely honest with you. My name... is not Khanrad. That is Khanrad. My name... is Razarod." Upon hearing that sentence, Khanrad, relieved, transformed back into his default form, returning to his master's shoulder by taking flight, his massive wingspan, a bit over seven feet (even greater than his master's height) blotting out the sun for a split-second as he crossed over them. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, but, you see... I'm supposed to be dead." Breathing heavily, the man turned back to Lilly, brushing his blue mane out of his eyes and waiting, anticipating her next words. Would she understand? Or would she storm away?

The heat of the summer slowly crept up on them as the sun rose higher and higher in the sky. Without a large coat on, Lilly didn't notice the heat. When Razarod began speaking, she listened closely, not wanting to miss his story. He had listened to hers, so this was her chance to repay that same kindness. His story was a sad one, and Lilly found her own heart aching for his loss. He had lost not only his wife, but his child. His daughter. To lose a child was a horrible thing. Lilly had seen first-hand what it could do to a person.

He finished speaking and she didn't say anything for a short moment before she spoke softly. "Everyone has something about their past they would like to change. I'm sorry to say that there is no way we could change it. All you can do is hope for the best. Hope they'll forgive you." Her eyes had turned down at her last words. Lilly wasn't just speaking to him, but to herself. Part of her wished she could go back, go back and never left everyone. But what was done was done, and there wasn't much left to do but apologize.

The elf's eyes turned up to notice he had taken his coat off. It was a good thing he did, for it only continued to get hotter. Unconsciously Lilly's eyes swept over the man's arms and slightly exposed chest before she tore her gaze back to his face. He looked almost in arguement with himself over something. She was about to ask him what when he began speaking. A slow grin appeared on her lips as he revealed his real name. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the real Khanrad shift shape and turned her head to look at him, watching the phoenix as he took flight and came to land on Razarod's shoulder. From behind her Sun snorted, turning her head to the side and not looking at the red and orange bird before them. "I knew he couldn't have been a horse."

Lilly looked back at Razarod, just watching him for a moment before she started laughing. The sweet sound seemed to carry on the wind and the grass around them swayed slightly. She brought her laughter to a small chucklebefore putting her hand over her mouth. "I'm sorry. Goodness, that was rude of me." She took a calming breath before looking back up at him with a smile. "I really am sorry about laughing. It's just that I never really believed you about your name." She shrugged her shoulders up slightly. "The way you talked about this 'Razarod Evermore' was too... I don't know exactly what you'd call it. You admired him far too much to not be him, if that makes any sense." The smile didn't disappear.

"To be honest I almost gave a different name when I first met someone after this long thirty years. Even earlier, when I met you here on the plains. I almost called myself something different in case you recognized the name. I was... I am afraid... that the people I left won't forgive me for leaving the way I did." She turned her eyes down before looking back up at him. "But I realized... Even if they didn't forgive me, I didn't want to lie about who I was. I don't want to live a lie the rest of my life, you know?" Lilly gave him a warm smile. "I don't know if that helps you any. It probably doesn't, the way you've been speaking. But why is it everyone believes you to be dead? What exactly happened that I don't know about?"

Tensely, Razarod waited for Lilly's response. And finally, something came out of her mouth. And it was... laughter? That was not what he expected. Not at all. A sigh of relief came from the man's lips as she spoke to him again. "What can I say? I'm rather proud of what I accomplished. And I'm... not used to having to pretend to be someone else. Or having to concern myself with subtlety too often. Before, it always served me best to unabashedly be Razarod Evermore, King of Angkar. I don't really know how to do anything else."

"I don't think you have anything to worry about. You know, I disappeared from Shadow's life for a long time, too. And she was plenty nice to me when she met me once again." His mind flashed back to the memorable incident, in which Shadow's appearance had caused a calamity in the middle of Ildri. (Elenlond had still been occupied by the Deities at the time, hence the reason for the extreme reaction of his people.) She hadn't even known who he was at the time. "I do not believe that she, or your other friends will hate you for your disappearance. Now, she might be a bit more angry with me, as I have let people believe I am dead until it is safe to reveal myself again... but not with you. Speaking of which, if you see her... Please don't tell even her. As much as I hate doing that to her..."

He took a deep breath. "But anyway, you asked me a question. Everyone believes I am dead because, officially, I was assassinated. Not entirely sure how long it's been since then, I lost count of the days. At least a month, most likely two. I don't think many people know, but... It was Sophia Orjtarn who killed me, so to speak. She's the Inquisitor of Ashoka. And she told me that Orion de Lacey, the Moghul, or King of Ashoka, was the one who ordered her to do it. Not that I couldn't have guessed as much. To what end, or if anyone else was involved, I don't know. I'm forced to have suspicions about my successor of course, but since I know Orion and Sophia were involved, if I go after anyone, it will be them." He hung his head for a bit. "But before any of that, I'm going to Soto. I can trust the Council in Madrid. They always got along with me okay. And not so much with Orion."He flung himself over onto his back, staring at the sky. "It feels so good to be able to finally talk about it with someone..."

With her legs crossed, she moved her hands to her ankles, wrapping her fingers around them as she listened to him. She smiled. "I'm glad you think so. I do hope that she will be as she was when we meet again. But don't worry, I won't say anything about you. Though, I am curious how you're going to go about living if you were once a king and many people know your face. Will you use another name like you tried to do with me?"

Lilly didn't say anything as Razarod spoke his tale. Her head nodded slowly to show she was paying attention. Her eyes smiled as well as her lips as he fell backwards. Slowly her head tilted to the side as she looked over at him for a moment. "So everyone thinks you have been assassinated." She couldn't say much about any of the people he mentioned; having been away for so long she didn't know much about any of them. Who was to say what these people were like? Perhaps they had a good reason for what they did? Then again it was always possible that they were just trying to take over other countries and expand their power. Lilly had never really been too into politics.

"I'm glad you can talk about it so freely. It helps a lot that I've been away so long and really do not have any idea who it is you are speaking of, or have anyone else that I could tell." She lifted her shoulders up slightly as she took in a breath. "It's so strange coming back to a country that I've called home for so long, and yet I know nothing about." A small laugh escaped her lips as her shoulders moved back down into a resting position. Her eyes lifted to the sky and seemed to almost stare into the endless blue. "I don't know how I'm going to explain coming to this place and yet having no idea about anything. The customs, the geography. I have no coin or anything to get by with. I suppose I'll take up a job somewhere."

Lilly turned and looked over at Sun, who in their discussions had stood up and wandered off to munch on some grass nearby. "Perhaps I'll get a stretch of land and become a farmer. I could do wonders growing some crops." There was a small hint of amusement in her voice and the corners of her lips curled into a small smile. Maybe she would do that. It made sense, after all. She could make a good living doing it. She could guarantee more crops than any other farmers could. Of course, she would hate to impose on a farmer that had been there for a long time and take away from their family. She would have to search around and see what crops they lacked and perhaps go with that one. One no one else was trying to grow. Yes. That would do nicely.

Upon the mention of the possibility of agricultural undertakings, the former monarch sat up with a start. "That is actually an excellent idea! Perhaps right here in Morrim would be the place to do that! It was not even a year ago when I fought a battle here to destroy the Eye of Zanna and restore life to the dried-up land. There was a great famine, which has not yet had time to be completely restored. Your abilities would actually be a big boost to the agriculture economy here, and you could feed more people than the struggling fields have thus far been able to do." The elven priestess was just what that country needed, still straining to break the grip that the famine had held upon it for so many months. Oh what fortune that he had stumbled upon her here, to point her in that direction! For that was the one part of his business he had left unfinished, and now was still able to help the people of Morrim, even in death.

"Alas, I hate to leave your company. Speaking with you has been very pleasant indeed." She was certainly very pleasant on the eyes as well, though he dared not mention this to her directly, nor did his thoughts dwell upon this for any length of time. Not now, when neither of them were in the right place, in their minds, or in their hearts, to think of each other as anything more than acquaintances and friends, the pair of them still facing down the memory of a great loss of their own. "I must be on my way, to Soto. I can only hope that Sphynx and the others are agreeable. I do not forsee otherwise, but... We shall see. That is where I will be if you want to see me again. And I will keep my ears out for news regarding you as well. The monolith of a man hugged the slender elf before he stood, mounting the phoenix-horse once more and darting off into the distance, casting back a warm smile in Lilly's direction before he disappeared on the horizon.

The idea of her staying here, in the first place she landed in when flying back to the mainland, made the ex-Priestess smile slightly. And when talk of her abilities came around, she looked up at him with a somewhat bigger smile. Perhaps she could be of use again? It would definitely give her a sense of purpose, and suppose it would help her get over things she possibly hadn't fully recovered from. She could focus on something other than her own life. For the last few years, she was being rather selfish.

"That..." With a pause, she turned her head to look to the side, out across the plains. "...Is a wonderful idea. I could definitely help out with that. And perhaps I could then get my farm up and running." When he spoke about leaving, she turned and looked at him. He was leaving so soon? They hadn't been there very long, and she still had so many questions about things, like what exactly had happened in Morrim that warranted needing help.

When the man made his way over to her and wrapped his arms around her. She froze for a moment, not having had anyone hug her in a good many years. When he pulled away she looked up at him, she herself turning and standing up slowly as she watched him race off. Her eyes caught the smile he gave her before they were too far into the distance to clearly see them.

Behind her Sun stood up, shaking her neck to straighten out her mane as she walked up beside Lilly. "I think we too should be going. At least we know somewhere to start. But I know you wanted to find..."

"Yes. That comes first. I need to see someone familiar. And she shouldn't be too hard to find." Without hesitating she turned and moved forward, easily swinging her leg up and over Sun's back. She placed a soft hand on the side of the equine's neck and stroked the fur softly. "Let's continue on, and perhaps we'll find someone that knows something." With that, the horse let out a small snort before taking off at a gallop in a southern direction.
