The smell of sweat hung heavy on the air to the extent she almost felt like she was going to choke. Light flickered and cast lunatic shadows on the walls as she slowly followed the stairs downwards, deeper into the earth. She had heard of this place, and the others like it, in a report she got yesterday. Tracking it down had not been hard for someone of her skills, and getting them to let her in had also not been difficult, although the look she got when she said she wanted in was... Amusing. Apparently they did not have any women here. Part of her wondered why, she could see the appeal after all, in a difficult world what better way to exert some control, to let loose some stress than to beat up some other poor fool in a small, contained expression of violence. She was pretty sure her reasons were different to everyone else's in that regard, though. Of course her real reasons were different again, all she was here for was to find some people who could be recruited either into the army or Inquisition, after all this seemed like a perfect place being as it was a group of young men who enjoyed fighting and had no prospects. As she got to the bottom of the stairs she felt all eyes look to her. Inwardly she grinned, amused by the attention. She did stand out, she guessed, as the only woman here, with a green strip of fabric tied around her forehead and a black vest top that showed just the tiniest hint of her well toned stomach and did its best to hide the fact that she lacked any real curves above a pair of khaki cargo pants with military style boots. She did have a heavy jacket to, but that had been left upstairs, along with her knives, her sword being far too precious to bring here. "Apparently if it's my first time I have to fight" her voice rose above the quiet, strong and commanding as her hands in their fingerless gloves locked together for a moment, stretching out in front of her and then above her head. "So who wants to give it a go?" she looked around, sized up who was there. About twenty people all told, although the low light meant she could not see a lot of all of them. There was a pause, were they nervous to be the first to fight her because of her gender? But no, one man soon stepped forwards. The rest parted around them, gave them space. Sophia reached back and tightened the headband a little and got ready. A moment of silence. He nodded at her. She nodded back. It began quickly and ended quickly to the sound of cries and cheers from the others around them. Even without her using her abilities to enhance herself Sophia was still a formidable fighter. The man came at her and her foot connected sharply with his chin. And then within a minute, it was all over. What a rush. What a sense of pure unbridled freedom and power. Sophia did something she very rarely did. She smiled. |

The energy of the place was intoxicating to him, if not for the sight and smell. The violence, the excitement, the intensity, the desire for brutality; it could all be read on everyone's faces and his was no exception. It was these strange times in which Mirix truly enjoyed being in the midst of humans, though he'd never actually admit such a thing in serious conversation. He had known about this particular place for some time now, but had only recently started appearing fairly often. His presence had, for a while, seemed to only cause fear and loathing, but now it appeared that even he had found a niche, even if it was one that was merely tolerated. The problem was that Mirix's first opponent never made it out of the ring and his second only just barely. They didn't give him a shot at a third without first reiterating the rules and then making some up specifically for him. After that and some self-imposed measures of restraint did it seem like he could fit in there, even if only just slightly. Though his appearances were no longer a cause for fear of death, only a few ever really wanted to fight him and he seemed perfectly content with just watching. It was only the ones with something to prove or with a masochistic streak to them who threw challenges at him now; his attributes far outmatched those of normal humans so his fights were generally considered unwinnable tests of endurance by the regulars. On this particular visit, Mirix was hidden amongst the crowd, sandwiched between two cheering and jeering masses. It didn't look like he would have any challengers this day, and that was fine by him, but the demon wanted to see something new and exciting. It was just when that particular desire flashed in his head that a newcomer stopped at the bottom of the stairs. His bright eyes fell onto the woman just as everyone else's, though doubt in the woman's abilities never once crossed his mind. A smirk appeared on his lips and he thanked his luck before beginning to wonder what kind of surprise this woman would bring with her down into the den. She seemed well aware of the rules already, evident by the first thing that came out of her mouth; a good thing that only made him laugh darkly. Mirix shared a quick exchange of opinions with another random observer on whether or not the woman would last beyond her first match before she stepped into the ring. The demon knew that she would be a worthwhile contender and thus offered a bet, but the other didn't seem interested in laying his soul on the table for this particular wager. Once her match was over, much too quickly for his taste mind you, Mirix decided that maybe this one could be of some personal interest to him. "Congrats, seems like you've livened the place up even more than usual!" He said loud enough for her to hear over the din after pushing his way through the crowd so that he was standing right beside her. "Though, I think your induction into our little club isn't quite over yet." He chuckled and grinned before pointing over to her left towards the small group who were getting lined up to put the newcomer to the test. |

Sophia's chest gently rose and fell as she caught her breath after the fight she had won. She was pleased with herself, not because she had won, but because she had won without using any of her powers. If she wanted to she could have had enough magical energy flowing through her to snap a mans spine like it was a matchstick, she could have enhanced her senses to the point she could hear his heartbeat, but the fact she had won without needing to confirmed to her she was not getting soft, that her harsh training regime had not been impacted by the increasingly political role she had to take on. Of course, the reason she was here. The man she had fought, was he of any use? No, not really. If he applied for a military position then sure, he would get in somewhere, but he was not worth her offering the hand. And he certainly lacked the skills and instincts she wanted in her Inquisition. Besides, where possible the Inquisition was going to be female, she would accept men, but preferred women. She just... Got on better with them, and felt more comfortable. Still, if anyone good was here, they would be offered a place anyway. Practicality came first, and she wanted a powerful group of spies, assassins and observers in place as soon as possible. She relaxed and turned to face a man whose voice had raised up, distinctive above the background noises of labored breathing and life in general. He came up to stand next to her, and she couldn't help but wonder who he was. Was he in charge? She wasn't aware there was any real leader here... He had some kind of power here though, that as evident when he seemed to indicate that a small group wanted to try and match her. But was that because of him, or did he just draw her attention to it? She couldn't tell. But why had he come up to her, did he want to fight? "Thanks, I guess" she commented coolly, her facial expression revealing that something about this man did not make much sense to her. The room started to clear to make space for those who wanted to challenge her now. Four of them. But mainly, Sophia wanted to see what this man was going to do. "So, are they doing this because you want them to, or was that just a friendly comment?" she asked him, brushing her hair back into place from where it had fell in her fight. Her question was simple, but what she was seeking from the answer was much more complicated. Who was he? It was evident he was different to everyone else here in the way he bore himself, but how. Was he some kind of leadership figure? Had he taken a shine to her, or was he disgruntled at her very presence? So much she wanted to know, but so little time to try and find out. There was more to do. She kept an eye on the strange one who had came up to her, but turned to face the small group. It looked like the first one was going to come onto her alone (some sense of chivalry, perhaps?) but who knew how long that would last. The assassin relaxed her body, slowed her senses. Four of them. She supposed she could let herself use some of her magical skill, but only to enhance herself, and nothing more. She felt a slight tingle as her magical might flowed through her body, starting from her head and out to the tips of her fingers and toes. Her breathing became louder, or sounded it to her enhanced senses. She locked eyes with the first of the four, and it began. Once again, she tried to start with a high kick, but this was foreseen and dodged and the man jumped at her, knocking her to the floor. She landed on her back and shifted her weight in order to throw her legs up, her feet catching the man in the stomach as he dove continued at her. It gave her the time she needed to stand up, and she had just enough time to connect a swift kick to his shins before another started moving towards her. She backed away from the two a little, her body ready, coiled like a viper ready to pounce. And still, the main thing on her mind was curiosity, that one who had spoke... Something about him was different. |

Mirix liked the look that the woman gave him after he approached her. She was curious about him, that much was obvious, and in response a small glimmer flickered in his light colored eyes. His curiosity about her was also evident, to him at least, otherwise he wouldn't have approached. He sensed a similarity between them within her; that perhaps this woman, like him, could slice through everyone else in this room like a hot knife through butter if she truly desired to do so. That thought always excited him, even if it hadn't be acted upon… Yet. "You're quite welcome." He replied, just as coolly, though with a hint of mischief hidden in there as well. As space was beginning to be made for the soon to be ensuing fight, Mirix stayed by the woman's side, his steady ecru eyes on her as if she were the only one in the room. He smirked at her question, eyes narrowing in a sly fashion. "Which is more exciting?" He wanted to test the waters, see what this person's temperament and sense of humor was. What he really wanted to find out was if this woman was going to be as much fun as his intuition was telling him she'd be. "Regardless, I sense that you're different from the rest in here, and not just because you're a woman." Now he seemed to start paying attention to rest, glancing around him momentarily while offhandedly adding to his previous statement. "When you're done with those, care to come find me? I'll buy you a drink for every one you knock down." He offered another grin then, a pleasant one that seemed to promise some kind of adventure and mischief if she were to follow up with it. "I'm sure you won't take long." And with that little message the demon faded back into the crowd, moving to stand just beyond the line of bodies to become relatively unnoticeable within her peripheral, while maintaining the ability to observe as he pleased. Mirix had a peculiar feeling that this was a gamble, that there was a possibility that the woman didn't actually care to investigate the mystery he had offered her and would just leave. But, in the end he had no other option but to convince himself that wouldn't happen; he was never one to actually worry about anything after all. |

"Am I really that different?" Sophia smirked in the brief lull in the fight, her facing off the small group across the room. Despite this, she spoke comfortably, barely out of breath (although not entirely calm) and even glanced to Mirix at one point. "I don't think there is that much separating me from everyone else. Of course, I seem to be more dangerous than most. But, we shall see" she flashed a smile which would have looked at home o the face of any serial killer. "Of course, if you are offering me a drink... Well, I guess I would be a fool not to accept." There was little really for her here. She had taken the measure of these four, and wasn't a fan of the idea of having them join the Inquisition. The other man was possible, she had not seen him fight but he had a way of moving through the people here which could be useful in an intelligence operative, and the fact that he was approaching her showed he could perceive she was different. She needed people with that kind of insight. If he was the only one of interest and she had a chance to talk to him alone, there was no need to waste time here. She enjoyed the fight, but business came first. And if any of them could hold out against her at her all, well then she was wrong and they would be valuable to Ashoka. Also, she wanted a drink. Time to dance. Magic flowed through her to a greater extent and she dashed forwards at speeds which did not seem possible. A punch to the stomach of one man sent him flying across the room, crashing into the wall with a thud. The second lunged at her but Sophia just seemed to... Flicker, appearing just to the side of his fist. She raised a finger to his forehead and flicked him gently, sending him spiraling to the floor. One of the four was left. With her serial killer smile still intact she turned to him. She sidestepped a couple of punches with unnatural ease, and then let his forwards momentum carry him past her. This world moved so slowly. In the time it took the man to blink she launched a flurry of punches that mere human eyes would struggle to see. In less than a second four punches connected with his ribs, and one to his chin. She stretched her arms a little "I could do with a drink" she exclaimed loudly and walked to the stairs without a pause. Calmly she rose up them, using her telekinetic ability to grab her jacket from across the room before she left the building. Sophia did not look back, she just waited. Let's see what he did. And as soon as he was clear she would signal her men to arrest everyone inside. She may have wanted a look, but the one whom she saw any interest in was following her out now, hopefully. The rest were just engaging in needless violence. Any use they had would be found in the system, and they might end up in the army. "I could do with a nice glass of wine." she spoke aloud, partly to herself. She wondered if this strange one was listening. |

The demon could sense the flow of magic through the woman's body and smirked ever so slightly to himself. In truth, he would have preferred if she had defeated her opponents through just the use of her own martial prowess, but this was really all the same to him. After all, the point was to defeat your opponent and release some aggression, and that was what was happening here. The crowd erupted into cheers when the first punch was thrown and the woman's opponent went flying across the room. Mirix merely clapped slowly, watching intently, but stopping short of sharing the rest of the crowd's enthusiasm. His focus had shifted now, away from the actual violence of the fight before him. The silver-haired creature was much more interested in the woman's magic now; what she could do, how she did it, and what possible applications this could mean in the long run. He was a schemer, and though he had no real reason to actually be scheming right now, it was an instinctual reaction that was impossible to turn off. Mental notes were already being taken, and the possibilities made him gleam internally. As to be expected when normal men took on a person with skill in the magical realm, the fight was over before it really even began. The crowd was almost awestruck by what they had seen, and a hush swept over the room just long enough for the victor's exclamation to be heard by everyone around. Following that, the boisterous cheers and loud yelling resumed as the defeated were both tended to and made fun of for losing to the strange female. Mirix's light colored eyes followed the woman as she began to leave, and wasn't the only one to catch her use some sort of power to bring her jacket to her. After letting her escape up the stairs, he began to trail after her, easily exiting the space without detection; after all, no one's attention was on him, the next fight was about to start. The demon caught the thought that was spoken aloud and raised his eyebrows in response. "Wine?" He asked, genuinely curious, moving up to walk beside the woman. "You struck me as much more of an ale type of woman." He flashed her a fairly friendly smile. "What's your name, by the way? I see that you're not just a fighter, do your magical talents go beyond just self-enhancement?" |

"Really? Then I am afraid you are a terrible judge of character" Sophia remarked dryly as Mirix walked up alongside her "I drink various things, but very rarely ales. Such a heavy drink is... Not my style. Besides, wine is, when you know what your doing, so varied and diverse in such subtle ways as to provide its own challenge. I suppose ales each have their own story to them too, but that is not to my taste. What can I say? I guess I was born in a vineyard." she shrugged a little, not turning her head even a little. There was no need, her other senses had now picked up on him, she could even hear the faintest echo of his heartbeat, if she focused hard enough. He was not exactly going to be able to sneak up on her. "But enough. You did not come to ask about my tastes in alcohol. I should have guessed my abilities would be noticed, I hoped they would." she smiled softly, and turned to face the building. She raised her hand and then brought it down, and as if from nowhere figures began appearing nearby, all sorts of people, some of them guards others... Others not, wearing the uniform of the Inquisitors' made them identical to the civilians all around them. They moved past Sophia and Mirix and in through doors and windows. Mirix had been the only one of interest to her, so he got a free pass. The rest would see work camps or military work, most likely. A few would be let back into the wider world, possibly to do the same as before but with an Inquisitor around them to constantly prowl their groups for recruits and make sure all was in order. If that ended up being the case, the group would overall get off very lightly. But this one, she could tell he was different. The way he bore himself marked him out as such, and this only made Sophia interested. Who was he? What was his interest there tonight. More importantly, could he be useful. "I suppose I can answer a few of your questions if you want. Come, walk with me and get me that drink you offered." She extended the fingers on her left hand towards him, and as if magical strings had attached themselves to his limbs bade him to turn a little and walk in step. Her fingers on that one hand moved as she actually were controlling a puppet. But she only did this for a few steps. He wanted to know what she could do, and Sophia felt that was a good demonstration. "My name, by the way, is Sophia." she informed him as she cut off control, her hand resting in her crossed arms once more. Would he work out which Sophia? Sophia Orjtarn, High Inquisitor? Who knew? Who cared, she wanted to see if he was Inquisition material, he had passed the first test. In many ways he was now working towards an interview. Although, if she was honest Sophia just plain wanted a glass of wine. "Do I get to know yours?" she asked it as a question, but meant it more as a demand than anything else "That and quite why you were there, and what you think made you different from everyone else there" she continued to talk and speak, a slight businesslike tone to her voice. "Here looks good" she commented as they passed a bar, and looked to Mirix. He was after all, paying, he got to choose where. Unless Sophia didn't like it in which case he got the twin prizes of an angry scowl and a chance to try again. |

"I wouldn't say terrible…" He interjected almost defensively, eyes cutting across to the woman before she continued to tell him more about herself. Mirix smirked to himself as she explained her taste in alcohol to him. It was interesting, but only because of the fact that it was coming from her and he was currently feeling rather curious about her. He himself did not particularly care for wine or ales, or any drink that was passed around as alcohol on this plane of existence for that matter. His tolerance to such human made concoctions was very high, so they all tended to just come off as flavored water as far as he was concerned. "Oh? So being approached and followed in there was planned by you from the very beginning?" He asked, a brow rising curiously after that tidbit of information was shared with him. The demon paid no particular attention to her actions beyond that, or to the fairly large group of figures that suddenly stormed the building that they were coming from. Mirix was aware of them, but at the moment they were of no consequence and would thusly be ignored. It didn't take a genius to figure out that this had planned a raid and had only went inside to fish out someone of interest beforehand. The only question that he had now was for what purpose? The mystery surrounding it all made him shudder slightly. How exciting… Mirix nodded in agreement with her request, but as soon as he did he felt a very odd sensation wash over him. His body suddenly felt foreign, his movements not his own. The unexpectedness of this caused his eyes to flash silver and feline ears to flatten dangerously back against his head. The beginnings of a growl, or perhaps a purr, rumbled quietly in his throat, though all in all he seemed more bewildered than anything by what was happening to him. Only once it ended did it dawn on him that what had just happened was this woman's own doing. He blinked and actually stopped dead in his tracks, a blank expression on his face as he repeated the name quietly to himself with a mesmerized tone. A wide grin then spread across his lips as he flexed his limbs and looked at himself, satisfied with once again being fully in control of his own body. So that's what she can do… He thought inwardly, an audible purr escaping him as he began to catch up to her, laughing at the entirety of what had just happened. "Telekinesis! How unexpected, Sophia. Heh... And my name is Mirix." He purred once more, eyes shining silver. Mirix had expected her ability, which had been seen before when she had retrieved her jacket, to have been based in wind magic. It was thus genuinely a surprise to see that she, a human, had such mental ability, for he had not stumbled upon a human in this world with such power until now. "Wherever is fine. They are all the same to me." He didn't care where they decided to stop at; there were more interesting things on his mind at the moment. "Why was I there?" He asked while approaching the bar and pushing open the door for Sophia to walk through first. "My my, am I being inducted into your secret raiding troupe, Sophia?" He snickered playfully, catching onto the string of questions that seemed a lot less conversational than he had expected. "How about you tell me what made you think I was different from everyone else there? My reasons for being there are trivial. |

"I never planned to have you follow me from the start, but I had no idea what it would be like until I got in there" Sophia admitted "Once I did, I came to the conclusion that you probably would, and if not you are not so interesting that I would mind leaving you behind if that's ultimately how it fell. I am sure I can afford my own wine this once." She glanced to him briefly before looking back to the way she was going. Her footsteps advanced steadily as she continued, she remained calm. She knew where she was heading, all she needed to do was work out what to say, which wasn't her strongest point. She nodded to Mirix in thanks as he opened the door for her and proceeded inside, glancing around and picking a table. When he asked if she was part of some secret raiding party all she could do was smirk. That isn't quite the way she would put it, but he was oddly close to the truth in a way. A smirk would do, it managed to cover what she thought. She couldn't tell if that was him subtly hinting that he knew who she was, or if it was just a wild guess on his part. She would probably find out in due course. "You are different... You are different because you didn't fight, and yet you, without anyone there really seeming to know you certainly had a lot of influence. And you alone came up to me and noticed I was something special. I am guessing your presence means you are a reasonably decent fighter, they said you have to fight, and you don't seem to have a scratch on you. Lets just say it piqued my curiosity." She pulled out a chair and sat down "Now, get me a glass of house red, and we will see what else we have to discuss. I would like to know quite why you decided to offer me a drink, and what your interest is in me." she smiled and raised her eyebrows "chop chop." She was faking bravado a little, she wasn't usually the type to act quite like that. But, it would have to do. |

"Hm." Was his only reply when Sophia explained herself before they entered the establishment. He could have made a number of jokes at the time, but decided against it. This woman seemed so very serious and down to business that he wasn't sure if he wanted to follow suit and act that way as well, or go completely against the grain and make everything out as if they were trivial pursuits. In the end, he decided that perhaps a happy medium would be the best way to approach interaction with Sophia; he didn't want to turn her off completely, but at the same time didn't want to bore himself to death with straight business-like discussion. Mirix followed Sophia to the table that she picked out, trailing behind her like a loyal companion, completely missing her smirk that would've told him his guess was pretty much on the money. He listened in silence as she spoke, weighing her words against his own view of things and nodding slightly to himself in agreement. He didn't immediately take a seat with her, instead just leaning forward with his arms flat against the back of a chair. His eyes were on her, but in a much more casual and subdued manner than the weirdly excited one from earlier. A half grin that allowed the points of his fangs to reveal themselves appeared on his face once she had given him her order. "It would be a sad, sad day when a mere throwaway human were able to land a blow on me without my letting it happen." With a small shake of his head and dismissive chuckle he then vanished from the table, and weaved his way to the bar to get Sophia's drink. On his way there however, Mirix had to sneakily snag another's coin purse, snipping it from another's hip with stealthy slice of a claw. After all, he never had any money of his own, as he never actually bought anything. Generally he simply took whatever he wanted, but it probably wouldn't have been the greatest thing ever to cause a ruckus within the bar just yet. Instead, he simply got an entire bottle and glass to take back for Sophia and returned to the table. Smiling at her once he sat down, he placed the bottle and glass on the table. "So you want to know my interest in you, you said?" He wasted no more time with idle chatter while uncorking the bottle. "It's simple really…" Mirix began pouring a glass midway before placing it right in front of her. "You were different from the others. Different as in, not just a completely worthless throwaway human. I could sense the power radiating from you as soon as you walked in and I suspect that if you really wanted to, you, like I, could've decimated that entire room without breaking a sweat." Mirix grinned again as he propped his arm up on the table and leaned his head against his palm. " Also, you're a woman. A woman with a scent of strength and… Death… so that automatically gives you a couple cool points in my book." |

Sophia was about to say something when he walked away to get her some wine, but he left before she had a chance. A throwaway human? She didn't like the way he said that, she did not like it at all when all was told. The idea that humans were something less than other species galled her. She was human, and she was nothing but the tip of the iceberg of what humanity could accomplice, people judging them as weak, it was something that annoyed her. Luckily her anger had subsided a little by the time Mirix returned. She took the wine, and took a small sip, letting the flavour wash over her palette although she was looking for something other than taste, no traces of poison were immediately forthcoming. She took another sip, swirled the wine in its glass and watched it. It all settled as one, none of it moved at all differently from the rest, whatever was in this glass was consistently the same substance all the way through. She took another sip, satisfied that it was most likely safe, although she would make sure not to drink all of it in case something came over her. But she was familiar with most of the lethal poisons you would try and disguise in a wine like this and they did not seem to be here. She let him speak again, and again found he seemed to... Look down on those who were human. Aside from judging he evidently wasn't, it rubbed her the wrong way. "So you are saying people are usually worthless?" she challenged "Just because they are not fighters, they don't matter? I happen to take an insult to my species as something personal" she told him with a slight element of a threat "I am also a little annoyed that you seem to think my gender has anything to do with anything? I am special because I am a woman who knows how to fight, are you implying there is something wrong with that?" her fist tightened around the glass, it may not have been an exaggeration to say that she really needed to relax a little. "What are you then, that makes you oh so superior to mere humans?" she asked him "What kind of superior" sarcasm dripped from her voice like honey "being are you that we should all kneel and worship, and where do you get off deciding which people are worth a damn and which aren't?" she took another drink. This had gotten a little... Hostile. She tried to calm herself, with reasonable success. "Who knows, maybe one day one of us worthless throwaway humans will surprise you? I wouldn't rule us out, what I can do is nothing compared to what the average person in the street could, given enough time. The woman's act of testing the liquid for poison went right over the demon's head. His way of killing was generally not so subtle as to involve poisons, thus the way in which one detected it was unknown to him. Not to mention that he had no reason to attempt to kill this woman; he was quite a bit curious about her after all. And so he assumed she was simply enjoying the flavor of the drink and wrote it off completely. Mirix's grin faded to only a faint smile as he listened to Sophia's retort. He felt nothing in response to her words, and merely looked at her with a very relaxed gaze through not quite half-lidded eyes. He'd have no trouble explaining his viewpoint to her; it was nothing more than reciting fact; no different than saying the wine in her glass was red or that the chairs they sat in were made of wood. "Well," he began slowly, not taking his eyes off of her. "let me try to explain then." He cleared his throat. "I did not mean to imply that a human's worth is based solely on their ability to fight. However, I would indeed be surprised if a general member of your species, particularly one who falls into the category of 'normal', which I would then describe as being throwaway, yes, were able to hit me." He paused for a moment, fully aware of the somewhat verbose way in which he explained his standing. He took a moment to let the slew of words sink into the woman's mind, in case he inadvertently caused her any more confusion. "Also, I am not implying that there is anything wrong with you being a female and knowing how to fight. I am just commenting on your species' general social dynamic in which women are not usually seen as fighters, instead more as nurturers who generally stay off the battlefield. So, yes, you are special in that regard for being a battle hardened female. And I find that to be kind of… Cool, I guess." The last portion was said with a bit of a shrug as he let out a short breath of air. The demons eyes then traveled down to the table and focused on the bottle of wine he had brought to the table. The sarcasm that Sophia threw at him when she asked for him to identify his own species was not lost on him, but at the same time didn't offend him. "I'm a demon." He announced casually as he begun to drag a crimson claw across the table's surface in languid circles. Mirix thought he'd attempt to explain his inherit superiority though too, even if he had the thought in mind that she wouldn't be really receptive to it. "We are a few steps up in the food chain. You humans are a food source to us, among other things." His smile briefly broke into a slightly more devious smirk as he refrained from getting too detailed on the various uses of humans for his kind. His eyes flicked back up to the woman across from him then. "While you as an individual may not fear me, it is you humans who are afraid of us, hunted by us, and develop stories of fear and frivolous wards of protection against us, and not the other way around. It is that, along with a myriad of other qualities that make us superior to you." Aware of the possibility that his words may have only just escalated things a bit, his features shifted. His face became a little bit friendlier, his voice a bit more flirty and playful. "But yeah, back to me and you specifically! I caught your interest, you caught my interest... We should... Make something of that, hm?" |

Her fist remained tightly gripped around the glass as Mirix began his explanation. Would it be the truth, or was he just trying to appease her? There was no way she could know, she would just have to see what he said and judge his actions by it. He certainly did not seem overly sexist, his interest in her seemed to be more because she was good, as oppose to female. She half realized now the moment had passed that assumption was more her taking offence to his expressed view of humanity, and then deciding that he was the worst and looking for ways to take offence. That would not do, she was meant to be more professional. Her grip relaxed ever so slightly. "I suppose" she ventured after a pause "That makes sense. I guess it would be accurate to say that I am not the norm for either a human or a woman" she took another sip and placed her wine glass on the table as Mirix launched into his explanation of why he was a demon, and why demons were apparently superior. Suffice to say she was not at all impressed and found it a little tiresome. The best bit about no longer being a freelance assassin was that she met people claiming to be immortal, or in some regard better than everyone else far less. She tended to be contracted to kill those kind of people a fair bit, and it would be accurate to say she took a perverse pleasure in seeing the supposed immortal to whom all humans were playthings beg for mercy as she killed him (and it was almost always a him). Slowly. "So, if you are so superior to humans how come we still inhabit this world primarily? And what would you make of me, who would usually hunt those who hunt on humanity in such a way? Although, if I am honest a lot of 'demons' I have killed are, I suspect, men on an ego trip wanting attention." she tipped her head a little, wondering what his reaction would be. She had calmed a little, mainly due to effort on her part as oppose to as a result of anything that the demon had said. "But, your are right, this is all beside the point somewhat" she looked around lazily before focusing her attention once more on Mirix. "I find myself needing skilled people, and I believe you might just be such a person" she began "who can fill certain roles... Some of which I am willing to discuss, and are all official business" she gave him a second "And the others are much more important, and I am not going to tell anyone I don't trust." she left another moments silence "I said my name was Sophia? Are you aware of who the High Inquisitor of Ashoka is at the moment?" she asked him "And what do you think of them and what they are doing?" |

Mirix raised an eyebrow as Sophia spoke. He listened to her and inwardly wondered if he had offended her somehow, and if so, was she now trying to get back at him. It could be inferred from what she had just said that she was implying that was in actuality not a demon, but instead a man on an ego trip wanting attention. While he wasn't bothered by her statement, he was bothered by the idea that there were those masquerading around as demons when they obviously weren't. His eyes closed briefly and he shook his head at the thought. If that was actually going on, then Sophia was doing him a service by wiping them out. Though, he'd have to admit that if he ever ran into one of those types himself, he could have quite a bit of fun showing them what a real demon could do. He then thought about how to reply to what she had asked him. After a moment or two of thinking, he began to respond. "To start, I am not from this world, so I can't tell you why or how anything here has come to be. However, I'd offer to say that superiority has absolutely nothing to do with demographic numbers. After all, ants outnumber you lot a thousand to one, yet I don't think you'd be eager to say that they are superior to you based on that alone." Reaching behind his head, he scratched idly at his nape while his eyes wandered around the room. "Also, it is not necessarily our purpose to annihilate humans completely. I remember someone told me that while an angel's purpose is generally to lead mortals down a chosen path; our purpose is oppositely to derail them from that path. If we simply wiped you out, that portion of our purpose would be lost." He then shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. "Of course, that's just speculation…" The demon's eyes then found their way back to Sophia. "As for what I make of you…" He couldn't help but grin at her. "Perhaps being hunted by you would be a bit of a thrill. If you're taking down poseurs, you're alright in my book." As the conversation shifted to business, Mirix went with the flow. He smiled when she said he might be the type of person she was looking for. "I can't say I'm aware of much of anything to do with Ashoka… Aside from my dearest Orion…" He purred a bit at the name. "However, I'm all ears, and if you're in need of someone with skills in the realm of what I'm assuming to be a very secretive and deadly circle, well… You've found the right one." |

Sophia took a large sip of wine, and reached to pour herself another glass, idly using her telekinesis to affect the liquid causing it to spiral as it fell from bottle to glass. It looked pretty as it did so, until suddenly she stopped, and it fell with a slosh. A moment more and she took another sip. If she stopped to think she would realize that she was drinking fairly quickly, but she had so little experience of drinking a lot she didn't notice the signs creeping up on her. She always had been afraid she might be attacked, a paranoia that her enemies had not forgotten her, and even now those people were dead she was still a little insecure. As such she rarely drank to excess, although drank little and very, very often. As he mentioned ants a wry smile crept to her face. He could think that if he wanted. Under the table a steady stream of ants crept from her across the floor and began climbing up Mirix's leg. She only made about sixty, not loads, but enough to surprise him. "Maybe one day I will" she smiled, making it clear she was joking although with just a hint that suggested that it may not always be a joke. Why did she do that? Who knew. Her control was slipping, but she wasn't exactly any different. She was showing of a little more, with the wine and the ants, that was all. She let him say the rest as he wanted. She did not really know about angels or demons, she just disliked anything which claimed superiority over people, which both did in different ways. Demon's, directly, Angels (or those claiming to be) tended to act it, imply it. At a push, she disliked the angelic way more. "Sophia Orjtarn is the High Inquisitor of Ashoka" she told Mirix with another sip of wine "she is a swordswoman with a love of wine and a hatred of anything which assumes humans are but insects or thinks she looks like a young boy" she regretted adding the last bit. Both the admission it happened and that it annoyed her. She shifted her seating position and arms a little, leaning her head on a hand in such a way as to block Mirix's view of her torso. "Assassin of the highest and mightiest, when given the right price. Even if she kinda likes them" she took another sip. Razarod. She was going to kill him. She was not overly happy about it, but what do you do? A jobs a job. She could at least make it quick for him. And she did want to see how he fared in combat, she had heard he was quite the swordsman, and she longer for someone who could keep up with her. Maybe he would. |

While Sophia herself may not have noticed that the rate at which she was drinking, her current company surely did. While Mirix himself rarely even touched alcohol in this world; mainly due to the fact that it simply wasn't strong enough for his demonic tastes, he was still well aware of the effects and tell-tale signs of those effects on humans. He had spent more than enough time both lounging and causing chaos in tavern's to know both what a drunken patron, and a soon to be drunken patron looked like. However, given the displayed abilities of the one whose table he was sharing, Mirix figured he was in no real position to mention anything about the speed of her consumed glasses. He assumed she could take care of herself in that regard, and even if she couldn't.. Well, there was no doubt in his mind that the results would be amusing. The appearance of the ants at first went completely unnoticed by him. Mirix was much too interested in the one sitting across from him to really take notice of, or pay much attention to any tiny creatures that considered him climbable; at least at the moment anyway. He grinned broadly as Sophia mentioned her loves and hates, and almost chuckled at the third person perspective in which she spoke them, but didn't. Instead he just leaned forward on the table and gave her a coy look. "Well, I don't think you look like a young boy at al-nmmgrah..." He noticed the ants. Mirix then cut himself off and leaned back in his chair so that he could look down at where the creepy-crawly sensation was coming from. The cat-earred male frowned just a little before moving one of his hands to wave it along his pants leg as if brushing them away. That wasn't the case, but instead a movement that went alongside with his conjuring up a bit of magical flash fire. The surge of intense heat, or 'intense' in terms of the relation to an ant, washed over and down his leg, instantly searing and killing the insects without causing him any irritation. Once finished with that, he sniffed idly and raised his eyes back up to Sophia, a smirk on his lips, though his words were dry. "Heh, ants. How fitting." |

So he was sure of her femininity. That was good, all it should be. She had tried to dress to make sure that it was clear what her gender was. Not that she would admit that she held any insecurities over the fact she was taller than most women (and some men), flat chested and generally just didn't look or act in a manner which seemed very female. At least the last of those things she could try and rectify, and often did. It didn't help that she was High Inquisitor, which apparently was a masculine job. She didn't know how people figured that one, it seemed pretty neutral to her. Still, those people were now in a dungeon with rather grim prospects, so it wasn't as if they had not got their come uppance. She smiled at him softly, genuinely happy at what he had said. And her amusement was equally genuine. "Ants indeed" she smirked "Who would have thought?" she raised an eyebrow, as she often did "I can do other insects if you would prefer though" she shrugged slightly and drank some more. "Its not as if I can only kill people. I'd like to think that there is more to me than that. Isn't there?" she didn't really know why she was asking Mirix, who was only just better than a total stranger this. But she felt concerned about that, she had been told to kill Razarod, a man she respected, sort of and it sat ill. All people ever told her was to kill, to hurt, to maim... She liked it, it was important to like what you did especially when you did it as often as she did, but it rung hollow when she realised that was all that she was. She knew people used her. But at the moment it seemed to be bothering her more than it usually did. She had no idea why, and poured herself another glass of wine, finding the bottle empty before she got even half way. "Should I get another bottle?" she asked "I'm paying" was added after a slight pause. |

Mirix raised a curious eyebrow in response to Sophia's question, unsure of whether or not it was actually meant to be rhetorical. Regardless, he took the chance of responding, letting a moment of silence go by before softly clearing his throat. "Of course there is.." He pulled his chair in again and leaned forward a bit on the table. He might not have actually known Sophia for any amount of time at all, but Mirix had spent enough time around people in general to be able to easily pick up on a few things. "You enjoy wine, as opposed to mead, so that implies the possession of, or desire for, at least a touch of class." He purred, eyeing her intently with a slightly narrowed, lidded gaze. "You're the High Inquisitor, which speaks of occupational accomplishment and taciturn ability; your body language, which hints that beneath that hard exterior is someone of a notably softer and perhaps unsure persuasion; and then we have the simple fact that you asked that very question… Which could mean any number of things." His voice was rather soft as he said all of this, gaze unwavering, but then returned to regular levels as he seemed to relax. "Let's not forget the ants and your sense of humor either." Mirix laughed then, moving his hands to rest comfortably behind his head as he slid into a less rigid position in the chair. He shrugged his shoulders after that, smirking pleasantly at Sophia in response to her inquiry about a second bottle. "Sure, why not? Let's get comfy." |

The first thing Mirix picked up on was her preference for wine, and he read something into that. Did she want to appear classy? No, not really, she didn't really give a toss. She just preferred the taste. But she could drink other things. She could totally drink mead. She decided that when he finished speaking and she ordered more drinks, she would order mead, just to prove him wrong. Of course she didn't care what anyone else thought about her, how stupid. And he assumed she was a lot more sensitive in reality, which was of course completely incorrect "Wrong" she chimed in simply "I don't give a fuck about anything" she waved one hand at him and smiled a little. With her hand still slightly raised, she turned and signalled a waitress "Bring me some mead" she demanded, her voice suddenly gaining a commanding, authoritarian tone. She smiled at Mirix as she turned back around, the facade evidently fading. It was very obvious that alcohol was having more and more of an effect of her. If she spent more time drinking more than the odd glass then she might have realised that she should probably stop before she said something that she should not. "If you think the ants were cool you should see me at work. I get them to crawl into people eyes and eat them" she grinned slightly oddly. "Thats always fun. It makes people make a noise that just" she shook her head a little and smiled "soooo good" she spoke with a tone that made it intensely creepy, possibly because there was a hint at just how... Arousing... She found that particular scream. She adjusted how she was sitting, settling back into the seat as the mead arrived, placed on the table. Hardly waiting a second she reached out her hand and one of them flew to her hand, and she took a long sip immediately. "See? I can drink anything, no problem". "So, what do you do for fun?" she asked "Do you want to help me get some confession sometime? It is really fun" |

The demon gave a mock gasp of surprise at Sophia's response, his eyes widening and mouth gaping, though in truth he was neither all too surprised by the response, nor annoyed by his own inaccuracy. "Wrong?! All of it?" He shook his head then, clicking his tongue in a semi-disappointed manner before shrugging his shoulders and regarding the woman with a cool glance. "Alright, well perhaps killing is all you're good for then." He chuckled darkly, relaxed, his eyes flicking towards the barmaid as Sophia ordered mead. At the request, he snickered, aware that the woman was merely changing the drink to try and drive home a point. However, this really only amused him, as it came off as slightly desperate and spiteful, which would only really have an effect if he were truly trying to define and manipulate her somehow. As she spoke of the ants and what she could do with them, the demon raised an eyebrow, purring pleasantly in response to how just the thought of it was clearly making her feel. "Mmmm… That sounds perfectly delicious.." He cooed, a little surprised actually that she seemed to derive such pleasure from the act. "We should definitely see if we can find someone to test that out on." Mirix rhythmically drummed his claws against the wood of the table, leaving slight indentations in the surface just as the mead for Sophia arrived. He didn't bat an eyelash at her use of magic to draw the mug to her, having already gotten his taste of her use of that mastery and no longer being excited about such mundane use of it. Instead, he just laughed at her words, giving a toothy grin, and responding sarcastically with "That's wonderful." Taking a breath after that, he let his eyes wander the faces of the rest who were currently within the building. "What do I do for fun…" He purred, "What don't I do for fun is probably easier to answer. Just let your mind wander through whatever you might think to be sick and twisted, and you'd likely be on the right track." A sadistic smirk and look was expressed in his features and he returned his gaze to the one across from him. "Confessions? Do you mean like torture?" There was an odd bit of excitement in his voice when he spoke that word. "I think that would be rather enjoyable!" |
