SUMMER

Angkar: Wet season. Precipitation is common during the late afternoon and evening hours. Vegetation grows significantly during the summer, but flooding is a danger due to the monsoons that ravage the country. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Extremely hot and dry. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Relatively hot and dry, but with a chance of thunderstorms from time to time. The heat may cause forest fires.

Soto: Hot and humid, tree cover is dense while ground growth is restricted. Thunderstorms see the most amount of rainfall during the season, and it can be very windy. On occasion, there are flash floods that can destroy homes and farms built on flood plains.

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

Her lithe fingers clutched at the parchment in her hand, the edges crinkling as her fingers tightened. Pale blue eyes narrowed as she read the official report for what felt like the tenth time. Another murder had been committed in her country on her watch.

People would begin to take notice if this kept up. The first time was a couple of journeymen taken apart piece by piece in the forest. The next was a young girl, brutally killed in the rose gardens. Another victim had been found in the gutter right here in Madrid; rumored to be a guild member. If this was the work of the same person, then there was a chance that more people had been killed that she just didn’t know about yet. Were the murders even related? The victims had nothing in common, as far as anyone could tell at this point. They were all killed in different locations, yet not far enough apart to rule out that the possibility that the same person committed each crime.

She had already questioned a couple of members of the assassins’ guild, hoping they might have some insight for her. Sphynx had never been that guild’s biggest fan, nor were they hers she would guess, but there were a couple of people among their ranks that she was on decent terms with. Neither of them had any solid information for her, but they both seemed unusually eager to change the topic. She had a feeling that there was something that they weren’t telling her, but she had no pull among their guild so she let it go. Perhaps that group was just quicker than most others to pick up on serial killers, and maybe they were wary of this one.

That’s why she was where she was today. Her fingers finally dropped the parchment and it went up in flames before it even fell upon the desk she was sitting at. She didn’t want to look at it anymore, and besides by now she’d had it memorized.

It must be nearly time now. Though she would love to leave her post on the Council and track down whoever killed those people herself, particularly if one of them was related to any of the guilds, she simply wouldn’t be allowed to do that. Instead she had to rely on others to do the work for her; something that she had never been fond of doing. So several days ago she had sent criers as well as hung various fliers around the city searching out the best and the brightest to take the case for her. Anyone interested in helping who possessed the skills for such an endeavor was asked to meet her here in the small office that she held in the capitol. She had a couple of chairs brought inside just for this occasion, unsure how many people, if any, would show up to offer their services.

There was a knock at the door. Word about some sort of job offer to help solve something. It involved a couple of seemingly related or unrelated incidents. People being murdered left and right. A crier caught his ear a couple of days ago. He had nothing to do in the meantime and the disguise was beginning to wear thin on him. He longed to do something entertaining, especially if it involved the chance for battle. The guard outside let him in after alerting the councilor. He stepped in, dyed white hair, an eye patch over his scarred eye and an overall more regal and official look to him. However, his bulkiness and height could not be effectively hidden. If anything, that and his mannerisms would give him away. He took a seat.

The guard left. It felt odd meeting Sphynx in this manner, this was the third time. This time seemed to be the most interesting. He looked forward to this job and more importantly looked forward to wondering if she would figure out who he really was. It couldn’t be too hard, then again he had fooled Sophia. He felt somewhat proud for being able to fool her eye during the phase where she desired nothing more than his death. He reached into his pocket to pull out the flyer, the one giving some details of the job offer, the door closed.

He felt naked, he had to leave behind every weapon. It made him uncomfortable, horribly uncomfortable even though he knew no hostile action would be taken against him in this place of business. He didn’t show it however. He looked at the flyer.

“Greetings. I‘m here for the job offer as you know. It would be a pleasure to assist.” He made no effort to hide his voice. If anything, he should have introduced himself first. It was probably rude to state the obvious, but he wasn’t about to say one thing and then be told another. He wasn’t sure if there was more to say just yet. He’d wait for her to voice a question or two. Maybe an opinion.

“Enter.” Her voice called out at the knock on the door, though really she was a bit surprised that anyone knocked after being invited. She put down the quill that she had been writing with, copying some notes about this murder for her own reference. It was basically the same things that she’d already written down several times, but perhaps if she wrote them in a different way then they would make more sense. Blast her current position and the busy times of the Council of late. What she really wanted to do was simply find this killer herself. She knew that she could do it given the time, but that was exactly what she didn’t have. Thus she was forced to deal with others; people like the man who was just walking through her door.

She paid little attention to him as he stepped inside the room and took a seat. It wasn’t until he spoke that she caught some recognition in his voice and looked up at him. Dyed hair and an eyepatch. Was that supposed to be some sort of disguise or had Tekun aged considerably and lost an eye. Either way, she made no sign that she recognized it was him, in case that was his attempt at hiding his true identity.

“Good. Well tell me what sort of skills you possess that will assist you in the capture of this murder, dead or alive mind you. I don’t care how this criminal gets to me, but it better be dragged back here.” Of course she would want to question the murder, especially since members of other guilds appeared to be missing as well. But since a woman of her skills could make even the dead talk, she had no qualms about people bringing her just a dead body. Once she got the answers that she wanted out of it, she had no further use for this monster. Besides, the families of the people that have been killed already were crying for justice, and the only justice that people like that realized was an eye for an eye.

“And of course if there is any particular reward that you would like, please state that now for the record. Otherwise you will simply be paid in gold; the amount depending on how quickly you can bring me this killer.” She continued her introduction, basically the same two statements that she would make for everybody who came through her door today. The details from here on out would depend entirely on his responses.

“I’ve been around the block more than a few time, know my way around things. I would like to say I’m very experienced in combat and in the event of finding this killer can guarantee that at the very least he comes in dead.” Tekun began. “I know my way around things, know how to keep a low profile while looking for people. I’m afraid I’m not very magical, but then again it isn’t a required thing.”

He took a breath and tried to contemplate a reward, he had an idea in mind. He thought of a few things, what he needed the most right now. For now focus on what you’re good at.

“Quite good at following leads and following through, overall I’m a patient hunter who will take this job cautiously and will not stop until he or she is brought in. Until he or she is, this is all I will think about.”

Tekun thought he closed that nicely .

“As for a reward. I have a few undesirable things I want to be removed. Things from quite a long time ago that keep popping up. They hinder my day to day activity to the point where it becomes quite difficult to move about freely let along get on with my life.”

He was talking about those blasted bounties. Tekun honestly couldn’t remember the last time he was in a major city or lesser town of renown without having to wear something to keep a disguise or at the very least keep a low profile.

“If you can pardon the past or call into motion a pardon for it somehow. I’d greatly appreciate this far more than any gold amount you could possibly reward me with.”

“I certainly hope that this killer is not brought to me dead, so let me make myself very clear on this point. The killer will be brought to me alive, or you lose any chance of getting a reward. Do I make myself clear?” This was perhaps the most important point she wanted to make during this entire investigation. The families of the victims would want their own brand of justice, and if this killer was in turn killed before justice was served to them, then it would all came back to her.

“You do sound capable enough though, and you are right; magic is not a requirement to this position. So for now, consider yourself hire. However, as for your requested reward, I am going to need more information about these things that you want removed before I can agree to it.” If he was asking her to kill somebody or even multiple somebodies in exchange for capturing another murderer, then the deal was off. That was the impression that she got, until he mentioned pardoning the past.

“A pardon? Well that all depends on what country you are looking to be pardoned in. Obviously I have some pull with the Council here, and being a council member I often relate with the officials of other governments. But that doesn’t mean that we are all on excellent terms and can sweet talk our way through deals any time we want. So like I said, I will need more information, but I can probably agree to attempting to talk to someone to make these troubles go away. Is that good enough?” Until he was more specific on exactly what he wanted, she couldn’t say one way or the other if she could give it to him. Bounties here in Soto she could easily make disappear, at least if she thought that his help now would outweigh whatever crime he had previously committed. If he was a killer, maybe she’d just call her guards in right now and go collect the bounty herself.

“Understood. He will brought before you alive. How alive is another question I am more than willing to discuss with you.” She wanted this murder alive, no doubt so the survivors could have their way with him. It was irrelevant to him what happened to him after he was brought in. Dismemberment, physically broken, perhaps mentally broken. These were things he needed to consider. He did not expect to take this perpetrator without a struggle.

“As for more information. There are a couple of things that have occurred over the span of a few centuries that are outdated and are for the most part long forgotten and irrelevant. It amounts to old grudges and old war crimes. I’m focusing here in Soto particularly. Ashoka and Morrim believe I have perished, with good reason too. The grudges there are absolved with my “death” it seems.”

Tekun began, somewhat nervously. What would stop Sphynx from just offing him or turning him in here? Nothing had occurred in their past meetings, he hoped he had made a good enough impression before. He decided he’d trust her.

“I’m looking to get my life back together. Wipe the slate clean and stop this pestering, people looking to be set for a long time by taking my life. It’s been too long since I’ve actually freely walked around a city without some type of roguish disguise. I bring in this murderer alive and in return, I want my record wiped clean, removal of bounties particularly.”

“Well the killer still needs to be able to talk to answer questions, so leave the head and neck in perfect condition.” She had many questions to ask of this killer, some official ones and some not quite so kind as that. If the murderer was brought in with swollen lips and missing teeth, the she would be most displeased. Other than that, she wasn’t sure she minded if the killer had bruises in other places or even broken bones.

She let the man speak about his past grudges; if he cared not for them then why should she? She had asked for specific information involving that bounties that he wanted her help with, and so far she had not been given that. At least he had told her a location; she would have an easier time trying to deal with such situations in her own country than with ones abroad. Still, how was she to know if he deserved absolution from his sins?

“Well congratulations. So you want to start your life anew; well again let me say that I cannot help you if I don’t have more information. What were your crimes; what did you do that there is a bounty on your head? If I don’t know what the bounty is, then how do you expect me to help you?” She was growing impatient. How many times would she need to ask the same question before she was given the appropriate answer? “Before I can agree to your terms, I need to know your past. And it had better be fairly mild.” She could not agree to the assistance in bringing one murderer in only if it is going to let another walk free on the streets of her cities.

“Understood. The murderer will be brought back in suitable talking condition. This will be guaranteed.” He wanted to address this first, the other topic was still iffy. He doubted himself. Should he go through with this? No, he had to. There should be no doubt. For the longest time he had always shifted the blame to his nature. But it was a part of him, he was weak. How to explain it.

“Very well. It is not mild and the crimes span the course of several hundred years. The last of which was probably about seventy five years ago, but the majority of which date back to when I was about eighteen. I can’t recall exactly how long ago that was. But originally I came from Morrim and belonged to a clan that lived in the mountains. Rather violent one. My father was a twisted dog, brought me up for no other reason but to have someone he could manipulate to do his dirty work.” He rambled slightly.

“During those years, they were filled with plenty of violence. Anything you can think of happened, massacres, robbery. Rape. Sick things like that. Went on for years. Eventually the show was brought to an end, clan was destroyed by something. Kil- No. That wouldn’t be right, but I did nearly die. Sole survivor. Start of the whole mess really. Something hexed me during the aftermath. Grudges followed of course, bounty hunters after the sole survivor of a cruel clan. After that, lots of violence fighting. It blurs together.”

He took a breath and sighed. He felt like he was whining. A sob story, he hated it.

“Bouts of uncontrolled bloodlust were brought on through the continued strife. Insanity. Villages were wiped off the map. I’d wake among the bodies, horrified. Adding further to the list of grievances against me. War waged in my mind, and only through battle as a sell sword could I ever find a way to maintain a fragile balance in my mind. I led a life of senseless violence for a long time and through that many lives have been lost, ones that did not deserve to be taken so violently.”

There was tinged of regret in his voice.

“I’m sure you can look up plenty on “The Immortal Soldier”. Hell, you know as well as I that even now I’m in disguise and I’m probably sticking my neck out by elaborating. And I need not tell you who I am because you know already.”

    He thought for a moment.

“To sum up a long winded story. About 400 or so years of carnage, brought up in an environment of hate, born to kill. Damned at birth and hunted. Hexed with a crazed rage which prompted further destruction. All the while trying to stop due to how I was born once I gathered my senses. I’ve paid my dues and with recent phenomena. I finally have a way to have what I never did. A semi normal life.”
Now that his tale was done, he considered his options. If she chose to act against him, he would make a break for it. Escape. Although he knew she’d be a powerful adversary. That was the unnerving part, he recalled how lucky he had been against Sophia. Believing he had died was his way out. This time it would have to be through quite a lot of violence and running.

“Well, if that is suitable then you may make your decision now. Do what you will madam.”

His affirmation that the killer would be brought in while retaining the ability to speak was met with a simple nod from her. The details of the capture were of little importance to her; as long as the mission was fulfilled. At this point she was confident that this man knew enough of what she wanted from him to at least attempt to get the job done, so she remained silent and let him continue with his tale. And what an interesting saga it was.

Her facial expression remained fairly neutral throughout his speech; she gave away little of her thoughts on his story. She let him ramble on, though the more he talked, the more questions developed in her mind. Still she let him continue on his train of thought without a single interruption. She would have time to ask all that she wanted when he was finished; she would make sure of that.

“Uncontrolled bloodlust? 400 years of carnage? And born to kill, even. My, my, what a gem you appear to be.” Without any signal of the action, a pillar of fire suddenly shot up from the ground just in front of the door, blocking the only exit entirely. His story was interesting indeed, and she had no intention of allowing him to go anywhere without more information. Her hands were folded on the desk in front of her, and she leaned forward slightly, looking him straight in the eye as she continued.

“With everything that you have said you’ve done, why the hell would I set you loose on the world? How are you any better than the person that I’m currently looking for? Why do you deserve a normal life? And even more important than that, why should I believe that you won’t relapse into such a fragile and maniacal mental state again?” Her fingers made a tent in front of her face with her elbows propped up on the desk before her as she awaited his answer, which was rather kind of her. If politics had taught her anything, mostly by observing the terrible mistakes of her peers, it was that asking questions first and acting second usually had preferred results to the opposite. Besides, it wasn’t as though this man was going anywhere anytime soon, unless he liked his skin extra crispy, so why not ask her questions?

Fires of hell blocking his exit, followed by a few words and a question. How was he better? He showed no signs of fear but there was a look of determination in his eyes. He stood tall. She was willing to listen? He found it odd, quite.

“Pardon me for saying this, but I was set loose on the world long before I ever ran into you miss. And yeah you’re right, why should you not just do away with me. Be like everyone else who has hounded me for things long in the past. Things I cannot move past, that are irrelevant to them. Why do I deserve a normal life? I want to change, I didn‘t get a choice, never got one. A lot of people can grasp their lives and twist into what they want, screw it up if they want. I never got that option and I want it. And I see it. I‘m not like that any more, not that person. I want the freedom, the option to do what I want with my life at last.”

He hadn’t been for a while, the curse had been tame. That gem he had continued to contain it. He grasped it. It was tied around his neck. It made pacified him, suppressed overly strong feelings. That bloodlust he feared.

“This gem has been my insurance I will not harm anyone. There is control on my own, though when provoked there is only so much I can do. Violence breeds violence as does this hate. I want it to stop.” He removed his hand from the necklace. “I will find a way to break this curse one day. Then I will not need to rely on such a crutch.”

She had no idea how his first statement, regarding how long he’d be alive compared to how long they’d known each other, had to do with anything, so she completely ignored it. The rest of his words were the more important ones, especially since they didn’t entirely make sense. Why was he judging her, repeating her questions and throwing her words right back at her, when she was the one offering him a chance? And his words conflicted themselves; he said that he couldn’t move beyond his past, and yet still expected to be given another chance at a fresh life. But if he couldn’t get past it, then what was to stop him from killing again?

She said nothing after his first little speech; clearly he hadn’t finished yet. Her eyes went down to the gem around his neck as he described it. So apparently he hadn’t changed his ways due to good behavior but a magical gem that kept his feelings of mania in check. Just peachy.

“So you at least answered part of my question by explaining this magic gem. Even without any explanation as to how it works, I suppose I could believe that it’s possible for a gem to do what you are saying it does. You say that you have some control on your own, and I applaud you for that, but apparently it isn’t enough to live without the gem. So what happens if you lose it or if it’s stolen? And how can I trust your word that you have changed, when all you’ve told me is that a life of murder and rage is what you were bred for?” Already this conversation was lasting much longer than she’d hoped, and she hadn’t even started in on the details of the murders. Still she couldn’t let loose onto the world someone who was just as bad as the killer already out there, if not worse.

He noticed how she starred at the necklace. He was going to prove a point. He removed it from his neck. He gripped it and placed it on her desk. If she wanted to look at it, she was more than welcome to. He felt that security leave. He took a deep breath, when was the last time he had taken it off. A flood of emotion then it stopped. He shook his head slightly, slowly.

“It calms and suppresses heavy emotion. It was something I had caught word of a while ago, so I sought it out. So far it has helped a great deal due to how things have been, it has been an improvement. But in that same sense a crutch. I’m relying on it too much. You see, the nature of my curse is based in emotion, I found I cannot hit that point with this necklace, where things begin to blur and blood boils. Because of that, it cannot emerge. If it is lost or stolen then I lose a temporary solution to a long term problem. I‘ve lived without it before and as you can see I am not at anyone‘s throat. It doesn‘t emerge without reason and I have gone long bouts without my curse emerging. But there‘s a problem.”

It was a simple enough explanation, at least he thought. It might have been a little late on his part for it but he thought it needed. Even now he could feel a subtle anger rising that came with the thought of being toyed with. Maybe she really did want to help. He took a moment to think, to steady himself.

“It isn’t a matter of control anymore. Its matter of being hunted and being forced to fight time and time again. And after so much, you can’t help but break. The feeling that comes with combat is what typically brings forth the bloodlust. I say that fact, that how I was raised. It is the reason I was and still am hunted. For things long in the past. I’m not like I was those many years ago. I’ve had time to change and I‘m more than ready to move on. I can control this behavior. Others aren’t willing to let it happen. I just need the kids to stop poking a bear.”

He took another breath. His nervousness showed finally. It wasn’t overwhelming, but he needed to adjust to feeling to that degree again.

“Sorry. I’ve been told I ramble some.” He let out a slight laugh. "This isn't something I talk of often."

His display of ‘control,’ as he may want to call it, did not impress her in the slightest. This was a completely controlled environment in and of itself. She was the only other person in this room, there were guards outside the door, she could take care of herself even if they weren’t there, and no one was threatening this man in the slightest. He said the feelings came with being hunted, and yet there was no one hunting him, so of course his behavior was going to be the exact same with or without the necklace, which she had no desire to touch or probe. Magical items always carried a hint of danger about them, and she was not about to go poking around it carelessly. Of course she didn’t expect to see him go into a murderous rage without the supposed magic gem at the moment, so what was the point in removing it?

“I honestly cannot see why you should be allowed to live in civilized society given the information about your condition that you have explained. You continually say that your condition is a product of your upbringing, and yet have not given any indication as to what you have done to fight and overcome this upbringing or change your own behavior in spite of it. You also say that you’ve paid for your past behavior, but yet haven’t given me any reason or explanation as to why you deserve to live with normal beings after the crimes you have claimed to have committed. Wanting a semi normal life is a splendid thing, but overcoming ones upbringing isn’t a simple snap of the fingers; you can’t just say that you want to change and hope that it comes true. And I, of all people, know never to trust anything magical. Magic dies out, or is stolen, or only works when the conditions are right, and even with this necklace, that you also refuse to explain the origins if or magic behind, I cannot exchange one murderer for another. You say you can control your behavior if I only call off the dogs, but I can’t control every other person in the world. What if I manage to get the warrants cleared, but you happened to freely walk the streets one night and a man bumped into you then shouted at you for the action? Or you happened in a bar where a fight was just breaking out and you somehow got caught in the middle? Would that ‘poke the bear,’ as you so colloquially call it? And what’s to say that it wouldn’t? You haven’t given me any indication that such a situation would remain semi-normal. I have to look out for the best interests of the people of this country, and from what little you have actually told me, you are not it.”

“However, I have grown mighty tired of this circular conversation in which I have to continually ask you to explain yourself and only get the same excuses for answers. Be grateful that I am not having you arrested this day, though it goes against my better judgment, and you can be sure that your actions will be watched while you remain in my country. I will give you the information that I have on this murderer, and if you want to help, so be it, you are more than welcome to attempt to assist. If you to actually manage to be useful in this investigation, then we shall have to revisit your request.” She didn’t give him a chance to either argue with her or agree before she picked up a piece of parchment from her desk and began reading, even though the information had already imprinted itself on her mind.

“As of right now, there have been three official murder scenes. The first one was in the Erth’netora Forest, and two journeymen were killed, and it was witnessed by a woman called Sapphire. The second was a young girl murdered at the Immortal Gardens just outside of Madrid, and as of yet no one has claimed seeing a thing during that killing. The third was another young girl, also outside of Madrid, and this one was witnessed by a woman by the name of Sun. There have also been rumors that a member of the assassins guild was also killed, but I have reasons to believe that this guild is covering everything up while they perform their own investigation. At each of the three murder scenes there was a great deal of blood, enough so that we believe that the cause of death in each case was by blood loss. We have few physical clues outside of that; no weapon has been recovered from any scene. That is all that my inept team has been able to decipher at this moment, and I have no time to deal with this matter myself at the moment. Do with the information as you see fit.” The last statement could easily be seen as a statement of dismissal, and she clearly had other matters to attend to. However busy she was, and however irritated she seemed to be at the current moment, she still forced herself to remain civil. Her hands crossed themselves over her desk and she waited to see if he had any final questions, or if their conversation was finished, as she hoped it would be.

Her points were entirely valid and he felt like an ass for trying to excuse himself. He did not deserve it, but he wanted it more than anything right now. The only sure way to gain it was to remove the source, despite his fruitless efforts in the past. He was however surprised she was not having him arrested. He only pondered why but he would not question it. She began her exchange of information. He saw her frustration and saw it best to not tarry.

“Just a few questions, after this I will not eat up any more of your time. How long ago were the murders? Am I able to look over the bodies for further information?” The first two things came to his mind. His attitude had changed entirely. The nervousness faded and was replaced with a calm professionalism. It was no longer about him but about bringing a serial killer in. “And do you know where I am capable of finding this Sapphire?”

Information was important. To know a time so he could get an idea of how far away an area this perpetrator might have gone. He knew of weapons too, perhaps he could determine what kind of thing was done to these victims. Was it hand, an axe? He thought and took the necklace back, starring at it before fastening it around his neck once more. His first priority was to find this woman, find out what he could and then move on.

Sphynx looked down at the papers one her desk as the man seemed to contemplate her offer. Her hands began pulling papers towards her into a neat pile as she listened to his questions. She felt as though this conversation, already much longer than she’d initially expected it to be, was drawing to a close. She was a very busy person, and as soon as things were wrapped up here, she had other things to tend to. The quicker she could make her escape then, the better. Even while preparing to leave though, she kept the majority of her attention on the stranger before her, and she was ready for his questions when he did ask them of her.

“The first murder occurred a couple of months ago. It is difficult to give an exact time, as then we were not aware that there was a pattern. That one did not come to my attention until later, and by then clues were difficult to come by. The second was perhaps a month or so after the first, and the third, the most recent, perhaps only a week. The bodies are all still being held in the morgue here in the capitol city, and if you do wish to look them over, I can inform them that you are coming at my behest. And as for this witness, this Sapphire, I myself have neither seen nor spoken to her, so I wish you the best of luck in finding her. The only information I have on her is the name.”

If she found it curious that he has asked about one of the witnesses but not the other, she made no mention of it. As he asked her questions, she didn’t notice his change in tone because it appeared more professional, but because it was more concise. Now they were getting down to business, and the minor details and circular reasoning appeared to be gone from his speech, replaced with direct and to the point questioning. If only their entire conversation had been so pointed; perhaps it would have gone more swiftly.

“If those are all of your questions then I will bid you good luck and good day.” Sphynx gathered her papers up in one arm, taking a last look at her desk to ensure that she hadn’t forgotten anything important before sweeping from the room. She had no fear or concerns about leaving this man in her office alone, as the guards who were posted outside the door remained, and would continue to do so until he had also left.

((Sorry for the short post, but I did not have not much to add. I feel we can close this thread now :p))

“Good day Councilor. I apologize for keeping you . And yes. Please inform them that I will be stopping by on your order.” There was nothing more to be said. He calmly took his necklace, refastened it to his neck and made his way to the door. A few months, a month and then a week all possibly linked, he wondered what he was dealing with. More would be revealed at the morgue of that much he was certain. Witnesses…he would need to locate Sapphire and anyone else whom had come forward. Though he doubted there were really that many whom did.

As he exited the room, he took a deep breath. He had not expected it have ended so well, he expected jail. Immediate apprehension. He once again pondered why he was let go if she thought him a liability. Potentially useful? He wondered why he even bothered with law. He recalled a time where he could not have cared less. Regardless, what was done was done. It was time to move past that thought. Work on this new task. Get his life back on track. Maybe if he succeeded he would feel more open to seeking out a cure again. More free to move around. But first thing was first, reequip himself with some proper gear. He still felt bare without so much as a blade.
