Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

Glittering over the crystal blue waters of the ocean that stretched endlessly ahead, the sun was blazing with mid-day heat. Waves lashed against the cliffs called Suicide, polishing the rock until it was smooth as a pearl. The salty sea breeze was swept the land at the top, as well as surrounding the figure of a young man.

He just stood there, his long emerald braid flowing behind him as it slowly came undone, with a cape draped over his shoulder, which could cause one to assume he was probably overheating with his long-sleeve-and-coat garments underneath. But he had no sense of feeling, no sense of touch, so it really didn't matter to him; he could have a heat stroke and never knew what hit him. One hand was propped on a hip as he stared out over the ocean, the other hand tightly clutching a golden harp.

The voice of Satsue spoke in his head, buzzing around his conciouness like a fly. What... are you doing...?

Instinctively he swatted a hand as if brushing away a bug to silence the voice. "None of your business, hon. Now just be quiet like a good little girl and let me stand here." His near-black eyes seemed to twitch with annoyance, and he squeezed them shut when her voice spoke again.

But what is it that you are doing here? Even though she couldn't see where he was, she could feel the breeze and smell the sea, which confused her. She'd never been to the ocean before, and longed to be on the outsdide so as to experience it for herself. Although, she hated the taste of saltwater.

"If I lie and tell you I'm taking in the breeze for personal gain, will you shut up?" he snapped. Inside him, Satsue was not amused. She hadn't even the will to bother attempting to gain his control, for he seemed to be in intense concentration anyway.

Coryn Lunais

This was an... Odd job. Coryn had been hired to retrieve a pendant and then throw it off the Suicide Cliffs. His client had seemed in a bit of a rush, and had only explained that the necklace had meant a lot to his late wife, that it had been stolen, and who he suspected had stolen it, before he'd paid quite a considerable sum in advance and disappeared, seeming to be strangely terrified of something.

Coryn had recovered the pendant without any incident whatsoever, the thief apparently having been too scared of Coryn to even think about resisting. It was rather rare that a job went this smoothly, and he was glad it had. He was curious however, what his client had been so scared of that he'd act the way he did. And why did he want the pendant to be discarded?

But, he supposed that was irrelevant. It was best not to bother thinking about such things when there wasn't an answer. Coryn guessed that the man who had hired him would be out of the city by now, most likely why he'd insisted on paying before the job was complete.

Coryn held the pendant in his hand, looking at it as he walked. It seemed to be almost entirely made of silver, a treble clef symbol with two short lines crossing it horizontally, on a silver chain. There were five gems on it, one on the right, left, top, and bottom respectively, as well as one in the center. The central gem appeared to be a diamond, to the left was an emerald, the top a topaz, then a sapphire on the right and a ruby on the bottom. It was probably rather valuable... For a moment, Coryn considered taking it back to town and selling it, but decided that he'd rather finish the job he was paid for, seeing as his payment had certainly been plenty.

As Coryn approached the cliffs, he saw someone standing there. Interesting. He hadn't know this place to be somewhere that people usually bothered coming to. And as he came closer, he heard the person talking... To himself. "Is there a reason you're standing on the cliffs, telling yourself to shut up?" he asked curiously, after putting the pendant away again. . His tone was casual, but in reality he was rather wary of this stranger. Was he insane?

Footsteps, he could hear behind him, and soon enough the approaching figure spoke. ""Is there a reason you're standing on the cliffs, telling yourself to shut up?" Turning around to face the man, who towered over him a bit. Damn this short form, he said to himself, noting that he didn't even reach six feet.

"Ah, he replied smoothly, his black eyes narrowing to slits, "I'm just taking in the breeze for my personal gain. It's quite a nice place, here, with the breeze, and the waves lapping agains the rock."

"..." was Satsue's reply. She was fairly annoyed with his behavior, as always. How he could just stand there for hours, looking into nothing, not being able to feel anything... She agreed with the man; he probably was mad.

Looking this new figure up and down, Satsuyo noticed the shiny thing in his hand. Suddenly interested, his eyes flared with interest, and he spoke very fast without any pauses. "That--what you have there--what is it? Is it yours--your wive's--did you steal it--are you delivering it somewhere--where would that be--are you looking to sell it?" It was shiny... and many gems were planteded in its mantle. It looked very, very valuable, and the ideas were just rushing through his head. Throw it off the cliff, break the chain and steal the mantle, plant a curse in it, give it to a lady and hire someone to kill her to get it back--oh, the possibilities were endless. And the evil of his thoughts were shown in his black eyes. Meanwhile, Satsue was shuddering mentally in his head.

Coryn was about to make a snarky response to the man, but he stopped. It wouldn't be a good idea to provoke this guy if he was as mad as he obviously seemed. For he had just given a response that was what he had already said was a lie, to himself no less, and hadn't even completely answered the question. "I see." was Coryn's only response, as if it was an actual answer, though his tail flicked in annoyance.

However, then the man started asking questions. "What?!" Coryn asked, on guard. How had this guy even known about the pendant? He then realized that there was an extra hole where he'd put the pendant away, which made it quite visible for all to see. He'd have to get that fixed some time.

"It's hardly any business of yours," Coryn said with a slight edge to his tone, "But I was hired to retrieve it and then toss it off the cliff. I have no idea why my client wished for that, but that was his request. So, is there anything else you wish to waste me time with?" The last part had some obvious annoyance showing through in his tone, and anyone with half a brain would probably realize that Coryn had no desire to be near this madman any longer.

The man was being fairly defensive, and was fairly annoyed at him, it seemed. Good. That made things interesting, amusing. It made Satsuyo feel good to be in reality, because he had a real purpose. And that was to bring unhapiness to those around him. Ah, how joyous it was to be a demon planted in a female's body, who just happened to be the perfect person to mirror. Immortality was good. He only felt bad for Satsue, for one day she would die and he'd have to find a new Host Body. And he was almost positive that no one would fit Satsue's "perfection", or even come close. Well, maybe that wasn't true. Maybe he could find someone with mental disabilities that would make him a genius. Yeah, that'd be a fun host.

"Throw it off a cliff, huh?" Satsuyo sneered with a devilish smirk. This guy was interesting. "You've been hired to throw it off of a cliff. Now, I don't see any men around here besides ourselves, so how would your client know, exactly, if you threw it off of the cliff? What if, say, you had thrown it into a tree instead? Because of the fact that you would throw it off the cliff and he knows he would never see it again, how could he ever know if you had thrown it off of a cliff or not? Or sold it in the port of another continent? He wouldn't. Now, if you don't mind, I would happily take that off of your hands and dispose of it myself."

Coryn listened to the man's words, and he narrowed his eyes. "If you think I'll simply be handing this thing over to you, you're sadly mistaken. Regardless of the pointlessness of throwing it away, it's what I was hired to do, and I'll finish the job."

Coryn tensed, and readied his claws for combat. He wasn't planning on just being pushed around by this guy, and the whole situation seemed off. His client runs out, obviously rushing to get away from some danger, and this man is standing at the cliff when Coryn arrives to dispose of it? He wasn't so sure that this was coincidence. He did have too many questions to simply throw the pendant away now. This situation obviously wasn't all that it appeared to be.

"Oh, really?" Satsuyo said, sounding honestly disappointed. He crossed his arms and his expression went especially dark. "What a shame. How honorable you are to carry out such a task with such honesty. You practically just told me to throw up!" he snapped, his grip tightening around the golden rim of the Harp. His tension was well timed, also, for the lizard man was beginning to get violent, summoning claws and lowering his stance. "Well, if that's the way you want to play, I'm sure I can entertain you," Satsuyo snapped, and brought the harp up into a ready position for playing, quickly stetching out his fingers. He was always careful never to miss a note, especially with that second string from the right which would bring Satsue back into dominance.

Being a bard, Satsuyo simply couldn't just play a song--he had to sing to it, oh which he chimed in the name of the song as the tune danced across the strings. "I fell down, down, down and flames went higher~ and it burns, burns, burns, the String of Fire. The String of Fire" (Cash). And as the tune continued on, a small string of fire began to form around the strings, dancing up around his hands, and at the command of his will began flashing toward the man.

"You practically just told me to throw up." Scum. Coryn thought. Well, it looked like he'd be getting a fight today after all. Coryn was already heading toward the man when he began playing the harp, and he saw as the flames began to form. "Music is nice, but I think silence would have been far better for your survival!" growled Coryn, as he leaped toward the harp and its player, aiming to cut all the strings with his sharp claws.

However, what he hadn't noticed is that the pendant had been glowing. Specifically, the ruby. Suddenly, some sort of image was projected from it. Coryn's claws were already raking along the harp, causing an incredibly piercing noise as the vast majority played at once.

Coryn had no time to pay attention to the image however, he'd deal with it once he'd won this fight! ...Wait... "What?!" he shouted in disbelief, "How are those strings not cut?!"

Slightly stunned at the man's sudden raging leap, Satsuyo attempted to defend himself with the fire he had summoned, but the attack had come in far too quickly and he saw his hand being slashed open, and the claws raking across every string, causing an awful noise. "You have no musical ear," he hissed, disgraced at this man's lack of taste. The wounds on his hand weren't affecting him at all, due to the fact that he couldn't even feel them, or notice that they were supposed to be in pain. He was also aware of the harp's inability to be destroyed, and took the opportunity to play another song, until a sharp, loud and hard note pierced his ears. The second string from the right.

Looking up at the man with a deathly angry expression, Satsuyo roared, "You IDIOT!" before his fist clenched and he dropped to the ground, trembling violently. His cape had fallen to shroud his entire body, where the shape underneath it changed before falling still. It was smaller, and rounder. The harp had fallen to the ground a foot or so off, completely free of damage. The mound of cloth moved after a few second, and sat up before gasping--but the voice was different than the one who had just roared at the lizard man. It was light, quiet, and most noticably--feminine.

Standing up and brushing itself off, the figure turned around, but was not the man who had just summoned fire from his harp, but instead a young girl in nearly identical attire. She could hear the breathing of the man who had just attacked, and turned in that direction, though her eyes stared right through him. She looked down almost instinctively, her small hands coming up near her chin in a bashful gesture. "Um..." she muttered, before taking a few steps in all directions, searching for her harp.

Coryn quickly recovered from the shock of the harp having not been destroyed, and couldn't resist throwing a taunt when his opponent spoke."I think you should listen to your own song before you question my taste." He chuckled, "After all, that's not what made your song burn." Then the man roared at him, calling him an idiot, "Reduced to insults?" responded Coryn, not sounding fazed at all. "I think it's time to end this!"

Coryn then rushed toward the man again, as he'd leaped away after the first attack, but as he attempted to strike, the man had already collapsed. Coryn had been slashing toward the throat, and now he missed. Before he could attack again however, the cloaked shape... Changed. Shrunk. And was still.

Coryn backed up and watched suspiciously. Just what was going on?! Then, the person started moving again! And he heard its voice... Wait, what? It was a woman now?! The... person, got up and looked at him. Yes, it was definitely a woman now... And she wasn't speaking, just walking around, appearing to look for something. She seemed... Nervous? Certainly not malicious, like what had been in her place. And if her gaze was any indication... She was blind?

"Tell me what's going on. Now. Who are you, and who was that man? How did you seem to change from him to... You, and what just happened?" This was all too confusing. First that pendant, and now this person... This hadn't been in the job description. Coryn was going to give his client a good talking to if he ever found him again...

"Um..." Satsue muttered once again, until her foot came in contact with something hard and metalic-sounding. There was the harp, she figured, and bent down to pick it up, careful to not touch any strings. As she stood up full again, the girl suddenly realized what had just happened, and blushed, bringing up her harp as if to hide behind it. The lizard man suddenly began shooting questions at her, in which she hid even more behind the harp, and started mutttering to herself inaudiable words.

"I'm sorry!" were the first words that blurted out of her mouth, as she lowered the harp back down and looked up at him, without really looking. "Um, I--I'm Satsue, and he--he was--he was Satsu...yo... and it's the... the harp... the curse... it's a cursed harp..." her words gor softer and softer until she stopped talking, still not answering the last question that the man had asked. "I--" she looked down again.

Coryn Lunais

Coryn tensed again as the girl reached for her harp. But... He had a feeling that she wasn't a threat. Not anymore... He listened as she spoke. Her name was Satsue, the man's was Satsuyo's, and the harp was cursed... "I see..." he said, "A cursed harp? I assume that you can't simply drop the harp and be rid of the curse then?"

He shrugged. "Well, whatever. How about you help me with this then? There's some kind of illusion coming from this pendant." He took the pendant out, and set it down on the ground to see. It appeared to be a map of Elenlond... There was a single, glowing red dot in the middle of the Takar Desert. "It looks like there's something in the Takar Desert..." He looked over at Satsue, "I would have tossed this pendant and been done with it if it weren't for you. But now I have too many questions to simply do that. Do you know something about this? Satsuyo was interested in it..."

This was probably a bit too sudden for Satsuyo, but he didn't care. He was curious now... What was it about this pendant that it could cause someone to become so terrified? Was someone after it for what it led to? He was determined to find out more.

Drop the harp and be rid of the curse... if only it were that easy. Satsuyo would have laughed if he was currently dominant. Satsue just shook her head in reply. The man then mentioned something about the pendant, and she heard him drop down, probably to place the mantle in the grass. He guessed that he wanted her to look at it, which truthfully made her feel fairly uncomfortable. Squatting down, she reached out a hand where she had heard the pendant being placed, where her fingers came in touch with a gem--it was blazing hot, and she brought her hand back up instantly. "It's... hot," she said, half to herself. Bringing her hand back down near it, the closer the she got, the more heat she felt coming off of it.

The lizard man then began saying that he was about to toss it off of the cliffs they were standing on, had Satsuyo not been there. And now that something weird was happening with this pendant, there was surely no way--nor reason--to toss it off. What made Satuse fairly curious, though, was that he asked if she knew anything about it. "Satsuyo... is interested in anything that he could use for evil," she said very carefully. "But I don't know anything about it. Is--is it glowing? It feels like it is... is there anything written on it?" she paused for a second, as if gathering information in her mind. Because... if there are any musical symbols on it, it means... it means that it responds to music--sometimes even... a certain string of notes. The song that he played... must have activated it. I heard once... that gems are able to hold energy within them."

From the sound of it, Satsuyo was one incredibly twisted creature. Well, if he was part of a curse, that certainly would make sense. It would have been nice if Satsue had known something about this to help with it. But oh well. She then asked if there were any musical symbols written on it. Coryn then responded, "Not only is there a musical symbol written on it, it pretty much IS a musical symbol. There are five gems on it, and I'd guess that the outer ones correspond to elements, especially considering that the ruby reacted to a song that summoned fire."

He paused a moment, thinking. "I think this leads to something. The man who hired me was clearly terrified of something when he told me to retrieve it, and the fact that he requested me to toss it off the Suicide Cliffs probably means that he wanted to keep whatever it was from being found."

He had decided what he was going to do, and this time when he spoke, it was clearly specifically to Satsue rather than his just stating observations out loud, "I think you should come with me. Your music will no doubt be useful in both this search, and judging from what happened earlier, in combat as well. Perhaps something can also be done about the cursed harp as well." He wouldn't force her to come along, but he would prefer to have the help for this. After all, it wasn't as if he could play any music himself. He also sort of did want to help her with getting rid of the curse...

"Oh! A map?" Satuse replied as the man made note of the symbol on the pendant. "Well, that... that answers it, then." She even smiled, just a bit; very gentle, very small. "If... there are gems for the elements, and that one is fire, I wonder... if there are other pendants that respond to other elemental songs?" she mused, half to herself, her already-sightless eyes glazing over in thought. "If so, it must mean that there are other elemental songs. I wonder what they're like... or what types of instruments they're played on." It was at this point that Satsue would have loved to go to a library; she liked libraries, despite the fact that she could not read. Mainly for their vast amounts of knowledge, for she enjoyed learning.

Continuing to listen to the man's words, he extended an offer of companionship to her, planning on following the way that the map in the pendant followed. He mentioned about her abilities with the harp, and in combat, and she shrunk back a bit. "That ability... with the fire... is Satsuyo's... I can't play anything like that. My songs for combat are more useful... for escaping," she admitted, laughing a tiny bit at herself at the end. She didn't comment about his desire to help free her from the harp. "I... would like to go with you, though. Thank you. Although... I didn't catch your name?

Coryn shook his head, not that Satsue could see, "Considering that only one gem reacted to the fire song, I don't think that's the case. Even if there are other things that go with this, that most likely won't be how it works. Though other instruments... That is a possibility. Hm..."

Then, Satsue explained that the fire was something only Satsuyo could do. Then, she said that she would like to come with him, and asked him name. "My name is Coryn." he responded simply, before taking the pendant and standing up again. At this point, the ruby stopped glowing, and the map disappeared, but Coryn at least remembered that it had been in the Takar Desert.

Coryn then asked Satsue something, "Even if you can't summon the fire, do you think you can at least play that song again to activate the pendant?" He shrugged, "Either way, come on. Let's head to Zedrin and get ready to go." Coryn turned around and began walking back toward Zedrin. It looked like things were going to get interesting...

"Oh, it was only one gem..." Satuse replied. She hadn't really determined what the pendant looked like, so it was hard ot figure what had reacted and what hadn't. She started thinking again, and at his muse of other instruments, she wondered what sort of instruments could play what sort of songs. She figured that a violin could probably play something Earthy, since it was made of wood. And a woodwind might be something for air or wind. But it was only a guess; she could barely figure out how fire and harp were related, anyway. Her desicion was that because it was made of brass, it had to be welded.

The lizard man finally introduced himself as Coryn, where she nodded deepy and said, "It's nice to meet you, Coryn." He then asked if she could play the song String of Fire, of which she seemed a bit puzzled by. She needed to think about it a bit, unsure of whether she could or not; for, she had never really been tought, and in order to learn a song, she needed specific instruction. It was hard to play by ear, especially on a harp, which has very many strings. "I... I could try," she promised, and then noticed that he was starting to walk away. After determining which direction he was going, Satsue followed suit, with a bit of a slow pace that allowed her to feel around to prevent her from bumping into anything.
