Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

{This story takes place approximately 70+ years prior to the current date.}

Traveling through the forest had never been one of Cameron’s favorite things to do. The density of so much living together in already tight conditions made the air humid to the point where even his robes seemed to adhere to his skin. Each breath felt as though he was sucking in more moisture than he was air and the perpetually damp heat only made everything seem that much more difficult and uncomfortable. It was exactly these conditions paired with the never ceasing noise that had stolen from him the mass majority of his sleep the last few days and made his appearance somewhat more rugged and untamed than what he liked. Yet this hard road was the only one to the superbly clear water that ran through the forest and made such an excellent spell casting ingredient.

After two full days of hiking he knew he had to be close to the source of the water and already he was having daydreams about bottling the crystal clear liquid so he could move on to Madrid and spend the night in a proper inn instead of his tiny, uncomfortable tent. Of course it was just as he was getting really into the fantasy of a featherbed and home cooked food that he failed to keep an eye on his path, his leather boot hooking in a particularly gnarled root to send him sprawling out amid the leaves, scraggly grasses and moss.

Cam hit the ground hard, managing only to bring his hands to bare at the last moment so as not to smash his head on the scattering of rocks it’d been perfectly aimed for. Unfortunately in the attempt to keep from brain damage his hand managed to scrape across one particularly sharp rock, the spike of pain causing him to scream a number of loud profanities. The sounds were enough to silence the birds and send many of the more gentle animals running at the sudden outburst of sound, the suddenly eerie silence only making Cam grumble as he rolled into a sitting up position to inspect his hand.

The gash was deep but far from serious; nothing a healer wouldn’t simply stitch up and put a poultice over. Still grumbling all manner of profanities Cam simply cupped his hands together and focused, a light blue glow emanating from between his fingers for a few moments before he untwined his fingers to look at his now healed palm. Much of the blood still remained from where it had spilled over his skin but the actual wound was barely more than a faint scar. It was the first chance he’d had to use magic all day, and it slightly improved his mood to see his power in action.

With only a faint sigh Cam got back to his feet, brushing off his robes before glancing about slowly in search of the path he’d just been on.

(Holy sweet lord writing intro posts and trying to limit it to under 500 words is hard as hell!)

Tzel was a renegade, more importantly he was an adventurer, a barbarian, a land bound pirate, a noble knight and the greatest of all thieves. Above all else, he was a fugitive of bathtime, and much happier for it. Like all good children, self-liberated from that cruel and oppressive force known as bathtime, he was on a grand adventure of the most epic proportions… more importantly, he was up to all manner of mischief.

Toppling “trespassing” travelers tickled Tzel to no end. The tried and true “blame the gnarled root” method, was a personal favorite. Letting the root go slack and still look gnarled was always tricky but he’d done this enough times and chosen a perfect spot to play his little game in to. It also helped when you had spent a large portion of your life living in the forest you attempted this in.

Tzel had to bite his tongue and clamp his eyes shut to keep from squirming with delight when he saw an intruder headed his way. Just in time, his young mind realized that this would be rather unhelpful to his endeavors and quickly opened them and pulled the end of the root sending the unobservant wanderer flying forwards. Tzel bit hsi tongue and then had to clap a hand over his mouth to keep from yelping because of it. His adult fangs had only just come in and he was still getting used to them. Fortunately the large and loud stream of profanity from the other had prevented any of these sounds from being noticed.

The foul words of the wanderer had given Tzel a glimmer in his eyes and his sponge-like mind had soaked them in quickly. Moreover, his wild imagination was already running off into the clouds and dragging him along behind. The small bit of reason left in his young head waited for a moment to see it the other appeared to be alright, as he rolled over to a seated position and inspected his hands. Tzel gave him a moment to recuperate from his ordeal, before his two tails wiggled happily and the mischievous smirk spread across his effeminate face. One fang poked out over his lip as he hadn't quite "grown into them yet".

With a roar the young lad leaped from the bushes and landed with a thud right in front of the traveler, The end of his toy wooden sword pointed at him, just above the man's hands but below his face. "Avast you foul mouthed malevolent demon!" He proclaimed in the most heroic and intimidating voice the youth could muster. "What manner of ill deed has brought you to the forest of the lady princess!?" His sentence was punctuated by the use of his free arm in it's secondary function, that of a hankie. With a sniffle, two large, sparkling hazel eyes looked at the "villain" above a smug smirk that seemed quite pleased with itself.

The kit was clad in boots that were clearly the property of someone older than he. He had no shirt but A towel did serve as a rather dashing cape, secured in place by a broach that must have belonged to some woman of atleast moderate wealth. Clearly this boy was miing genre as his head was topped with a folded paper hat out from which his brown tipped fox ears peeked out the top, and his golden bangs peeked out the bottom falling in his face. His wooden toy sword was not the type with a cross tee but instead a scimitar of some sort. Around his chest was a red sash, or possibly and adapted winter scarf. Clearly he felt he was the most intimidating brigand one had ever laid eyes on.

Cameron was far from a common sight in the woods, his elegant blue robes marking him clearly as a graduated and honored High Wizard among the people of Ashoka. In the forests of Soto however, it did little more than give away the fact he wasn’t from this part of the world as the added cloth only made the already damp heat that much less comfortable. The only part of his outfit that was truly suitable to the conditions being his lightly worn leather traveling boots that he now wore. Worse yet he knew he stood out, so it came as no real shock when someone jumped out of the bushes screaming and hollering.

In the split second it took to both hear and comprehend the sounds his right hand had summoned forth a small fireball and his left crackled with the unreleased energy of a captured lightning bolt. Brigands were nothing new to a traveling wizard of any station and one learned to keep spells at the ready just in case they should show up. What was surprising however was the size of his would-be opponent who Cam quickly realized stood barely over four feet.

Size alone was not a reason to keep from destroying an enemy however and had the child been better dressed and a whole lot more human he very likely may have gotten himself killed by the surprise attack upon an already agitated magic user. Yet the combination of his single large fang and the mismatched dress, most namely being the poor excuse for a cape, cause Cam to hesitate and then blink slowly.

“I’m being robbed by a child…” He couldn’t help but laugh at himself, extinguishing the magic in his hands as he eyed the boy slowly. It was more than obvious he wasn’t a human boy… unfortunately his specialty had never been exotic races and as such couldn’t place the boy’s race off the top of his head. Even so, he couldn’t help but smile faintly and hold his hands up in mock surrender, his voice calm and collected, “Though foul mouthed I may be defender of the forest, I assure you I am no demon nor malevolent.”

Eyeing the boy a moment he couldn’t help but chuckle lightly, letting his hands fall to his sides before speaking again, “My name is Cameron Elecott and I am a High Wizard from Ashoka. I bring no ill will to the forest of your princess, but I have journeyed here from far away in pursuit of the…” he paused a moment, considering his words before smiling as he spoke, “magic water.”

One thing he’d learned long ago was to never scorn the games of children for they always observed things others wouldn’t know about. If one was good with them, nice to them, they often revealed those astounding truths which could end whole countries without even knowing they’d done it.

The Snuggle Fiend

On a normal day…well as normal as they got with Tzel, he would have objected immediately to being called a child in this situation. However, this circumstance was far from the usual. Not only did Tzel not object to the remark, he did not even hear it. His expression had changed from confidence, amusement, and mischief to a look of total shock and awe. His eyes looked almost like they had doubled in size and his jaw hung as limp as his tails, the furry ears atop his head pointing straight upwards his gaze fixed on the man and his hands which for an instant, had been holding both fire and lightning.

Magic…

The other man began to speak; but Tzel hardly registered anything he said, his mind slowly struggling to catch up to the others words. He may have caught his name but if he had he showed no response to that. His ears did not miss the important word, that proved his mind had not been deceiving him. … I am a High Wizard… That was all he had needed to hear, after that his ears tuned in again to hear what he was looking for but he showed no indication of having heard this either. Instead his mouth had clamped shut, as he tried to keep quiet. His tails had begun to whip around back an forth and every which way in a show of undeniable excitement. His feet shuffled a bit in his oversized boots and his arms began to fidget about not sure what to do with themselves. Finally he clamped his eyes shut as if trying to hold something back; but it was no use.

A REAL LIVE WIZARD!?” he blurted out in a cry of excitement. At the same time he hurled himself forwards displaying the habit he would probably never break for as long as he lived, much to his father’s dismay. In an over exuberant display of adoration, excitement and joy, he practically tackled the wizard in an attempt to hug him. The weight of the kit as well as the surprise of the action almost invariably sent the victims of this gleeful greeting to the ground, at least the first time. Now he was sitting atop the other man’s stomach with his hands on the wizard’s chest.

Without noticing his folly or responding at all to their new orientation with one another, Tzel began to speak in that special way which few outside of children and overexcited women were able to speak. Speech at impossible speeds which left the recipient reeling from the influx of information they had just been buried within one long breath.

I can’t believe it! I’ve always wanted to meet a real wizard! Can you show me more magic? Can you do other magic? Are you going to do magic on me? Am I going to be turned into a toad? I’ve always wondered what that would be like. Why is it always a toad? Have you ever been turned into a toad? Will a kiss from a princess really change me back? Where would I find a princess? Have you ever seen a princess? Was she pretty? Did you kiss her? What is it like to kiss a princess? Do they kiss toads often? Do they ever have to kiss other animals? Why does it have to be a kiss? Is it because kisses are magic? My mommy says they are. I suppose if I did get kissed by the princess then we’d fall in love and have to go live happily ever after and I’d have no more adventures. I’ve only just started adventuring, I don’t wanna stop just yet. It wouldn’t make for a very good story to be turned into a frog and kissed by a princess so soon. If I help you find the magic water will you please not turn me into a toad just yet? I don’t know where it is but I can help look. My mommy says I am very helpful and I always help her find stuff when she looses it, and sometimes its not even because I hid it! I don’t know about any magic water but I can show you to our boring stream-er river. Maybe the magic water is nearby if there is any! If it isn’t can I come with you to help keep looking? We can take my boat-er ship! Maybe with my ship we can follow the boring stream to the magic water? On the way to my ship can you show me more magic? Do you think you could TEACH me magic!? If I become a wizard do I have to wear a big blue dress like you? Why does a wizard have to wear a dress? It seems kinda silly. I think I’d still wear it if it meant I could do magic…. I CAN’T BELIEVE I FOUND A REAL WIZARD!” Tzel ended his high speed babbling which was only partially translatable by normal ears without imagination and incredible attention to detail as well as the ability to think extremely quickly, with a shouted easily understood sentence and another tremendous hug that ,were he a full sized adult, probably would have crushed the air out of the other’s lungs, and might run a slight risk of that as it was.

Then he simply looked into the wizard’s eyes expectant and hopefully. Eagerly waiting for at least a few, if any answers, or the common response of “…huh?”. He was still apparently unaware, or uncaring about the fact that he was perched atop the other person’s stomach.

Cam always found it amazing how only a few days without contact from other sentient life, even if it was trying to kill or maim you, could make one long for the contact of other intelligent beings. Under normal circumstances watching the child before him shift through emotions and thoughts would have been a well disguised chore but for the moment it had his complete and undivided attention. It was even more amusing as the boys excitement became more than obvious as his twin tails flicked about so rapidly, obviously containing his emotions until, with a holler that sent every creature within earshot running, the boy finally released his pent up emotion, “A REAL LIVE WIZARD!?”

What happened next however Cameron could not have expected even in his wildest dreams as the boy literally launched himself like some sort of mortal missile right at his chest. Instinct normally would have dictated an immediate and likely deadly counter to the sudden rush… but that is assuming one has time for instinct to kick in. The boy had put his guards at ease, given him a sense of superiority over the situation, and it was that very reason that the wind was knocked out of him first on the impact from the boys body into his own and secondly from the impact of their combined weight as they impacted the ground.

The pain that lanced through his back from so suddenly being thrown from his feet was undeniable and only sheer will power kept him from screaming all manner of insults at the overexcited boy. Yet he couldn’t help but feel it served him right to now be in such a compromising position, he had been painstakingly taught to never let his guards down and for whatever reason he had… a foolish mistake, and not one he was inclined to repeat.

Slowly his attention refocused on the boy currently sitting on top of him, his mouth just beginning to open before the boys exuberance got the better of him and he let loose a speech at speeds which Cam could hardly register. Only about every second or third word was actually heard with any clarity, and then only because he turned the full intentions of his disciplined mind to the goal of deciphering the strange mumbo-jumbo the boy was blurting.

It took only the span of a few moments for the boy’s speech to run from beginning to end and it left Cam blinking up at him in what could only be described as disbelief. Somewhere he’d heard something about toads and princesses, an askance not to be turned into one, an askance about learning magic and something about his robes being a silly dress. It was a lot of information to process without being completely certain one had heard everything and then had heard it all right.

“err…” His tone was uncertain at best, and he coughed once to regain his confident composure before speaking again, “I’m not… entirely certain I heard everything right. From what I did hear though it seems like your boring stream may be the water I seek, and yes I can teach you some… basic magic. As for my “dress”, it’s actually a robe and its purpose is signifying my position within the wizarding community. One doesn’t have to wear it… but it’s a sign of pride.”

He wasn’t entirely certain the boy would understand his answers because he wasn’t entirely sure he’d even answered the questions asked, certain that there had been something about kissing, toads and princesses. It was all very confusing, and he couldn’t help but be a little annoyed with himself for getting into the present situation.

Tzel's tails waved about with excitement as he waited for answers from the wizard. Adults always seemed to take longer to speak when they had something relevant and interesting to say. The man whom he was still currently perched on top of, began to talk silly talk about the boring ol stream being magic. Tzel dismissed that right away because he'd more than searched every inch of the stream trying to find magic or anything special, to no avail. Then again... he'd never had a wizard with him before.

However all stream related trains of thought were dropped when he heard something he truly had not expected to hear. His ears shot straight up and his eyes grew wide with amazement. He'd said YES! Tzel could not restrain himself he threw his arms around his accidentally captive wizard in the closest thing to a bear hug the little one could muster. "Oh thankyouthankyouthankyouTHANK YOU!" It was not enough. The small one leaped off his new companion tumbling backwards in a sommersault and cheering before the attempted a rather poor cartwheel. "Wooohooooooo!" He colided with a stump but hardly noticed as he sprung back to his feet with the biggest most gleeful grin ever. "I'm gunna do MAGIC!"

Finally the excitable one seemed to pause to breathe for a moment, and in that moment a thought seemed to strike him. Naturally, any thought that struck him must be promptly shared so he did so post haste. "If you're gunna teach me magic, that means I'm going to be your apprentice, and if I am your apprentice.. you should probably know my name." He stood up straight and thumped a hand to his chest in some odd salute probably of his own design. "I am the Great, Dread, Sir Knight, Capitan Tzelendal, the noble, mighty, and cunning,. King of thieves, and protector of the fair lady princess." He paused as if he was forgetting and then with an increase to his silly grin explained "She's my sister."
