{This story takes place approximately ~70+ years prior to the current date, just before Cameron graduated for the second time as a High Wizard and before his curse or encounter with Meleanna.} The inn stood like the last sentry on the quiet streets of the City of Oracles. It had always been a place that plunged into silence when the evening’s unrelenting cold replaced the harsh heat from the day, the people that lived there hurrying home to their hearths and families in order to spend the night in peace. Even the mages in the cities central academy were quiet tonight, no doubt out of jealousy that The Academy of High Wizardry was graduating four students well over a year early. It was something quite unheard of to find students skilled enough in magic to be graduated early, and even more unheard of to happen in the “rich school”. After all, the Central Academy would take anyone, even lowly commoners if they showed magical talent, where as the Academy of High Wizardry took only the wealthiest and most skilled sons or daughters from the noble class. It had always given Cameron a certain sense of pride, and perhaps entitlement, that he had been in that elite few among the nobles. Of course, he had been in the Central Academy numerous times, for because of their more public nature they kept a larger compendium of rare items and alchemical texts. Tonight though, Cameron had made it a point to think about magic as little as possible in order to better focus on the lovely effects of alcohol induced celebrations. It was with that very thought that he pushed open the swinging door of the Inn’s lower-level tavern, aptly named the Magic Mug, and moved inside the dimly lit business. As it was still relatively early in the evening the place was quiet, the rustic wooden décor polished to a high shine in anticipation of the celebrations that always came when young men and women graduated from their studies and were allowed a night of merriment at the expense of the city. Yet the very fact that it was still early in the evening also meant that the tavern was nearly dead, with only a few patrons scattered about the multiple tables all of which noticed Cameron in his flowing white robes that denoted him as the best in his graduating class. It was an honor to wear the white robe, though in truth Cameron felt more proud about the blue sash clinched around his waist that told onlookers from exactly which school he’d come from. It was that same blue sash that made the tavern keepers face light up as he hurried over to assist the wealthy young man. “Good evening to you young mage!” The tavern keeper was a portly man, wearing little more than the traditional ankle-length cotton thawb and a pair of soft-soled cotton shoes. In fact, the only thing unique about his attire was the bright orange apron he wore about his waist that was stained by innumerable small spots from its years of use. Despite his plain look though, Cameron could find nothing wrong with the man except that his voice was an annoyingly high pitch for a man of his size and filled with far too much excitement, “What can I get for you this evening? Perhaps some of our rare wines, maybe a plate of food? Or if you’d prefer some company I’m sure I can find some lovely ladies to accompany you!” Cameron could only roll his eyes at the man, speaking in a droll tone that made his superiority clear, “I require only a table and a bottle of your best wine, and I mean your best. If I get anything but the finest vintage available in this city I’ll happily find another tavern. Company I can find on my own and if you ever suggest otherwise again I’ll see you put out of business.” The man’s eyes widened at the threat but he nodded his understanding profusely, muttering all manner of apologies so quickly that they all ran together in one long blur. Cameron could have cared less if the tavern keep had urinated on the spot in terror, though such an outcome likely would have seen him leave for another location if only for the sake of cleanliness. It didn’t take the chubby man long to find him the best seat in the house nearest the fire before scuttling off to quickly return with the wine and a real crystal goblet, the latter something likely only broken out for those of noble baring but it was a good sign he had served the wealthy before. The man offered to pour the first glass for him but Cameron only waved the man off, telling him in no uncertain terms not to disturb him again for the rest of the night and to see too it that his best waitress served his table with priority when the establishment became busy. Once finally alone Cameron let out a sigh of relief and poured the first glass of his excellent vintage wine, watching the ruby red liquid fill his glass with great satisfaction before placing the bottle in the iron ice-bucket the inn keeper had provided. It took only one sip from the crystal goblet to satisfy him that the vintage was superb, the slightly sharp tasting but endlessly smooth drink sliding down his throat and warming his belly in the way only a good glass of fine wine could. Now, it was just a matter of waiting until some form of entertainment arrived. (Holy crap staying under 1,000 words is hard. Lol. Hope its good enough, I’m sure my posts will improve as I get more used to this challenge xD) |

Silence, the bane of Katrina’s existence, encompassed the chilly street as males and females bustled from door to door heading in for the night. She preferred the noise and disassembly of chaos when mischievous circumstances were thrown to a group of commoners and they were made to react or flee. Tonight however, tonight she was more in the mood for the Inn just across the road - it wasn’t her usual scene but she needed a change the past few nights. She had heard of the special four that were released from their academy early and she had a feeling at least one of them would show up this evening for a bit of celebration so here she was following her curiosity and checking sanity at the door. Pushing away from the shadows of a house she had been leaning against Kat made her way to the warm light that framed the door of the Magic Mug, it was welcoming and promised warmth to her scantily dressed figure. Large black wings billowed out behind her momentarily before she folded them along her spine in the shape of a leathery, black heart before pushing open the door to the Inn. She was by no means one of the wealthier crowd, those drinking delicate alcohols that soothed their palette were an envy of hers but she assumed she could at least fend for herself where the spoiled couldn’t. The Tavern Keeper looked up from his work, his hands fidgeting with bottles to make them all line up perfectly while a frown crossed his lips at the sight of Katrina - she never bought anything the few times she had been in here. “Kat.” He bowed his head in acknowledgment but otherwise turned back to his work not even bothering to offer her a meal or drink. The Amazonian woman’s lips pulled into a twisted smirk of ruby red before she let her golden eyes circle the room - whispers of crimson crowned her pupils which dilated a few times when her gaze lit upon a familiar face. The names to those familiar were lost amongst the shadows of her mind, if they weren’t important enough she didn’t care enough to store trivial information away about those she met. Bypassing the rare groups of two or three, pimps and their toys - or men and women if you wanted to be respectful - Kat moved to the fireplace where a lone man sat decked in white robes accented with a blue sash. Long fingers twitched at her sides, black tipped claws strumming down the lattice of leather strings that led down her hips connecting pieces of black fabric into something suitable for public, as she registered the meaning of such attire. She took in his image, the way he held himself and the pricey glamor of his current indulgence of red wine, definitely someone who had the need to celebrate but celebrate what? The ability to out spell your peers? The world was a competition and he appeared to have the makings of a winner though every winner lost at some point and this thought caused curiosity to ensnare her once more. The sound of a smooth, velvet purr escaped her throat with the vibrations of an amused chuckle before Kat pulled up a chair to join him and his wine - after all it was his kind she was hunting tonight. “Pride, greed, gluttony ….” She ticked off each sin in the air as if completing a checklist. “Though I will add lust to the triumvirate because let’s face it - someone with your stature and ego must have women clawing down your door like an addict looking for their next fix of imaginary power.” Kat’s voice matched the liquid harmony of her purr while she settled into her seat casually and spoke as if they had already started a conversation, her wings adjusting and spreading to accommodate her body while one leg crossed over the other and her eyes locked on the strange man. “Didn’t your mommy ever tell you that embracing the sins would send you straight to hell, or wherever it is you people go?” There was amusement to her tones as she ran her pale fingers along her thighs as if smoothing out a skirt that wasn’t there, her right foot that dangled an inch or two off the ground began tapping an unheard rhythm before she added almost as an after thought. “By the way, I’m Katrina … though I prefer Kat. It is a pleasure to meet you oh mage of the new age.” ((Not completely happy with it but it is less then 1000 *grumbles and adds in another 2000 before she's happy*)) |

Even as the woman entered into the bar, as the heads of the growing patronage turned to observe the strange if beautiful being, Cameron ignored her. He was not some lowly mage to be interested by something slightly different, nor was he some generic Wizard pumped out of an academy with no field experience. He was a High Wizard, or soon to be at any rate, and part of that came with being put into life or death situations… something which kept the class sizes low, if nothing else. Thus it was only as she sat down in front of him that he even bothered to acknowledge her appearance in the tavern, his icy blue gaze settling on her as he assessed what manner of being he was dealing with. The wings helped, but hardly made things definitive, and so it was more the purr of her voice as she counted off his sins that made his demon warning bells go off. Yet he could hardly prove her nature was more than a fallen celestial with a bad attitude without starting a fight, and that was something he most definitely was not in the mood for. No one ever let him drink in peace anymore. “Didn’t your mommy ever tell you that embracing the sins would send you straight to hell, or wherever it is you people go?” The amusement in her tone was easily noticeable, and some part of his brain was infuriated by it even as another part was intrigued. She was certainly bold, if nothing else, to be so casual towards a man who would soon be a High Wizard or, should a time of global war ever come, a War Wizard. In the end, it was the intrigued part of his mind that won out over that half of his brain which screamed for her immediate incineration. “By the way, I’m Katrina … though I prefer Kat. It is a pleasure to meet you oh mage of the new age.” For several long moments Cameron did nothing, simply let his eyes analyze the woman he now knew as Kat before slowly lifting his goblet to his lips, allowing the crimson liquid to run over his lips and down his throat until there was nothing left. The decision to put up with this woman had been made, he was a man who went where his gut told him, but that didn’t mean he had to go there sober. The glass landed back on the polished hardwood table with a small thunk, his voice coming out in an almost bored droll, as though this sort of thing was common place to him, “You certainly are the bold one Kat, especially when sitting before a High Wizard no less. But oh, please, do join me for a drink…” He paused for a moment mid speech to refill his goblet with wine, his voice almost bursting with sarcasm when he spoke again, “I would be so honored to have you stay.” Without another word to the woman in front of him he made a small gesture in the air with his hand, a bar maid quickly running over. Yet even as the woman’s mouth opened to speak Cam cut her off in his usual bored tone, “Get another goblet and another bottle of the red for the lady… and perhaps a decanter of your best scotch. Don’t waist my time with words, just get it done.” It took the waitress a moment to get over her dumbfounded expression before nodding profusely. Running off to get the ordered items. |

Kat’s body shifted, arched as she stretched in her chair like a lazy feline before she recoiled on herself and adjusted her right leg comfortably over her left once more - she had a slow, boring day and hoped to god this new being would provide some entertainment. She didn’t speak again as he analyzed her, she watched the process of decision flicker across his face until finally he downed the rest of his wine and spoke. “You certainly are the bold one Kat, especially when sitting before a High Wizard no less. But oh, please, do join me for a drink…” The sound of sarcasm leaked from his voice like a foul odor making Katrina’s lips tug into another amused smirk as her eyelids lowered with silent but intense amusement. Bold, she was bold and she knew this but it was the fact that he appeared to think she should show some sort of girly admiration for his status made her laugh inwardly. He next ordered her a glass, and a bottle of wine which caused her eyebrow to arch - he better pay for that because she sure wouldn’t but she also wouldn’t deny the order when her veins sung with craving at the possibility. Kat’s eyes moved from the nameless man before to and to the waitress, gauging her reaction while Kat’s tongue slithered out to run along her bottom lip as if tasting the air like a snake though it was simply a habit of hunger. “Well thank you for the enthusiasm Mage - it’s always nice to be so welcomed.” Kat’s sarcasm was softer then his, amusement still lacing her tones to much to make it anywhere near as drone-like as his. “Do you have a name? Or should I just call you God …. Or perhaps you prefer something not so flashy … how about something like “Oh divine ruler”? It’s a bit lengthier but not so in your face as God.” Katrina didn’t typically approach people, never mind attempt to push their buttons for the sake of her own amusement but having checked her sanity at the door she decided to have some fun. Glancing away from the mage she peered up at the waitress who had returned, her nerves still seeming to be in a bit of a ruffle as she went about making sure everything was perfect by placing the wine beside Kat and the decanter of their finest scotch beside Cameron’s wine. The waitress didn’t say a word, she backed up and moved away from the table to hover just far enough away that she wasn’t being rude but also close enough should she be needed again. Turning her attention back to her company Katrina unfolded her legs and leaned forward to take the bottle of wine and smoothly poor it into the goblet, her golden gaze concentrating on her task while she spoke. “Is that something you do on a regular basis? Scare a poor girl half to death? I don’t blame you honestly - people are more …. Receptive to being overpowered then being in power but she’ll probably be scarred for life now.” There was no pity in her purring voice for that possible future but as the man gave her nothing to go on so far other then how he held himself she was intrigued to see his take on her observations. Leaning back with the goblet in her hand Katrina swirled the crimson wine before bringing the cup to her lips and letting it fall into her mouth like a slow river of blood. |

“Well thank you for the enthusiasm Mage - it’s always nice to be so welcomed.” He could hear the amusement in her tone without trouble, and some part of him resented her for it. This was just some game to her and he seriously considered incinerating her for that reason alone, yet some part of him screamed that would be wrong while an even greater portion told him to simply play the game back. He sighed, and she continued talking, “Do you have a name? Or should I just call you God …. Or perhaps you prefer something not so flashy … how about something like “Oh divine ruler”? It’s a bit lengthier but not so in your face as God.” A faint grin curled up the corners of his lips, her words putting all other thoughts from his mind as he responded in his normal bored tone, though the faintest hint of amusement could now be detected, “You can call me Cameron, its far less flashy than ‘God’ and far more appropriate, though you can also call me God King of the Known Universe should you wish though it is a bit… long winded. Perhaps just Cameron will do.” He watched her movements closely after she finished speaking, taking in every subtle bit of body language in those wordless moments. Only the waitresses return gave him momentary distraction, watching the obviously nervous woman place everything down in its perfect arrangement, even smiling a bit after getting a glimpse of her rather modest bust when she leaned over to set down his decanter of Scotch. Making a note to perhaps bring the pretty, if somewhat common, young woman to his room later. “Is that something you do on a regular basis? Scare a poor girl half to death? I don’t blame you honestly - people are more …. Receptive to being overpowered then being in power but she’ll probably be scarred for life now.” Her voice was a purr, and the only thing that snapped his attention from the waitresses’ chest even after she moved away. “How others feel is rather unimportant in the great scheme of things normally. However commoners specifically I don’t concern myself with…” his voice was plain, as though everything he said was information everyone should know. Yet before his words even died a small smile formed on his lips as he removed the top to the crystal decanter, pouring a small bit of the scotch into his glass even as he spoke in a much more amused tone, “Well, at least I don’t normally concern myself with mortals. Tonight seems to be an exception.” |

The wine had settled deep in her womb as the Mage spoke with a little less then complete boredom, Katrina’s eyes flickered back to his face when he finished his declaration of his name and she smiled. “Cameron….” She tested the word on her tongue as if tasting a fine dessert before she tilted her head to the right with a slight flick of her curling black locks. “….The High Wizard Cameron.” Chuckling she took another taste of her wine before adding “Might as well be called God King of the Known Universe though I will say Cameron has a nice ring to it - It’s strong and soft all at once….kind of like …” Her eyes flickered lewdly to his lap before looking up again with so much feigned innocence that it was a wonder she wasn’t struck down by a god right then and there. Her lips twitched before once more she pressed her glass to them, the wine was delectable and she’d give him that - the man had taste and style but style was typically an illusion and she didn’t know him from Adam. Remaining silent for the moment Katrina studied him, watched him and noted his own lewd staring of the waitress’s breasts - Ding ding ding 10 points for Katrina, lust is the correct answer in today’s game of ‘What sins do you possess?’ - The thought crossed her mind and another chuckle escaped her which she quickly silenced by another taste of wine. “…. However commoners specifically I don’t concern myself with…Well, at least I don’t normally concern myself with mortals. Tonight seems to be an exception.” His words wrapped around her head and for a moment she didn’t respond, setting down her wine glass with a gentle click upon the table Katrina rose to her full height close to six feet. Her wings stretched out behind her in a flourish, the black leathery membrane glistened in the firelight while the talons at the tip gleamed with a silent menace though this wasn’t what she was attempting to convey. Carefully her body moved with the grace of a strong exotic panther before she swooped in on Cameron in his chair, her clawed hands wrapping gently around the arms of his chair while she lowered her face to his and spoke in a voice that was soft rather then hard. “Commoner … last I checked I was anything but common, Cameron.” Her eyes twinkled slightly, it probably wasn’t a good idea to get this close to him but Kat never typically followed the common sense of ‘Don’t get in a Mage’s face’. “Also, the only mortal I see here is you sweet Mage … mortal I am not.” Leaning back from him she poised her body in a relaxed stance before him - her actions had attracted some onlookers and whispers from those around them but she didn’t concern herself with such gawking - she was a bit of an exhibitionist as it was. |

He grinned as she got in his face over both the mortal and commoner comments. It seemed to him that for the first time since she'd sat down he'd taken control of the reigns, forced her to make a scene long before he had. Of course, she might have simply given in for the point of her game, but that thought was pushed far from his conscious mind in order to allow him to savor his first small victory of the evening. Other patrons in the bar were staring now though, he knew that much, which had turned the game into a show. It was something that amused him, though the neutral expression plastered to his face from the first moment she'd sat down, the same one that has lasted perfectly though her entire display, still lingered there. Slowly his grin faltered and then faded until his emotions were again perfectly tame. Taking the time to raise his goblet to sip at the scotch he'd poured there earlier before speaking in a tone that portrayed his attitude as bored and unimpressed, “You really should tame your passions Kat, you give away what you are too easily. If you tolerated comments such as “mortal” people would be hard pressed to think you anything more than some avian race.” He let the words linger while taking another sip of his scotch, using the motion to hide the momentary flash of victory in his eyes. She had, after all, played into his trap and he so loved to outsmart others. Again thoughts of how she might have played into it knowingly crossed his mind, and again he pushed those thoughts aside to enjoy the taste of victory. “However...” He paused his perfectly calm speech for only a moment as he set down his goblet, the crystal making a small thud as it landed on the hardwood, “I dare say if you were as uncommon as you think you'd not have felt the need for such a grand display. Now how about you sit back down before the whole bar thinks we're about to fight and I'm forced to light you on fire or some similar unpleasant outcome?” He watched her carefully from his seat, his free hand moving to rest palm up on the chair. Magic was not something he wanted to use tonight, but nor would he back down from a challenge from some random woman. To make that very point clear he let the faint tingling of as yet unfocused magic tingle in the air above his hand, banking on the fact she may be able to feel its presence without him needing to shape it into a fireball or bolt of lightning. |

The grin that stretched across Cameron’s face caused Kat’s wings to ruffle behind her akin to the way a kittens ears twitched with curiosity, after all it wasn’t like she could read minds so she simply assumed he was amused by her display. She was good at displays, in fact they were part of her specialty letting people believe what they wanted to believe when it came to her as long as she kept her act carefully under wraps - it was rare for her to truly lose her temper in public. Cameron spoke and the golden vortexes that were Katrina’s eyes sparkled in silent amusement making the pair almost kindred to summer and winter in their personalities. “Mmm…” The sound of a soft purr escaped her throat before she spoke in response “…It’s a bit cold outside, I’m sure being caught on fire would make me toasty warm - we should try it sometime.” Whether her words were meant as an invitation to a fight or just a casual masochistic twist to the conversation it was unclear because her eyes shifted to her wine glass and she let her body be carried over to her chair. Tracing a finger along the rim of the glass she scooped it up but did not sit, silent defiance to his almost insistent suggestion. Kat’s wings shifted behind her at the sensation of untamed magic licking at the air around them, turning back to him she paused for a moment before letting her lips pull into a wide smile that took up her face like a jack-o-lantern. “So tell me Cameron what are you goals in life? To take over the world? That’s a common goal, bit of a far reach for most but being a high wizard and all that jazz perhaps you could accomplish it!” The pitch of her voice rose with feigned excitement of a child but was still kept low enough that it wouldn’t travel across the tavern. Dancing back she fell into her chair with grace and crossed her legs once more, the wine glass in her hand balancing upon her thigh with only her thumb and forefinger holding the base still. She wondered how the night would end, either in blood shed or a casual night of riddles and sarcasm between strangers before parting ways - both entirely possible and either acceptable in her mind. The mage was slightly interesting, better then spending the night in the shadows and stalking prey at least. He kept his composure almost perfectly aside from the faint emotions read in his eyes or the slight twitch of his lips - it’s what kept Kat here as long as she had been, she wondered how deep that composure went. Draining the rest of her glass she moved to fill it once more not allowing the glass to be empty for long while she watched him with a smirk, her cheeks flushing slightly from the alcohol as it heated her skin. |

Defiance, hidden pride, an almost palpable aura that screamed of sex and a silver tongue that would make devils grin with joy. There was no doubt this woman was interesting, perhaps even dangerous to the commoner and plain nobles. It was exciting to finally have someone so unique share his table despite the fact Cameron was more than sure if the night headed towards blood shed the woman would die before even having time to find a weapon. He was the fastest in the academy when it came to duelling after all, and that was nothing to laugh at when sport combat was often done against the lesser instructors as well. Within a few more years however, he was certain that even the Grand Master would shudder at the thought of fighting him. The thought of seeing the feeble old man shake in his boots started to draw a faint grin across his lips but was quickly shaken from his head so that his lips would fall back to neutral. The part of his mind which governed his good sense all but bitch slapped him back into reality at such dark thoughts and Cam forced himself to remember that he was training to be a High Wizard in order to save and protect not to destroy. As his eyes refocused on the woman in front of him it was almost as if she’d read his mind and was using it against him as she asked about his plans for the future and so casually brought up world domination. The questions put him back though he hid it well beneath his cool composure, choosing to wet his lips with a healthy swig of scotch before replying in kind with his usual bored tone, “World domination is such an outdated concept, and far too much tedious work for one gifted with magic. My goals are much more realistic in that I simply desire to become the most powerful high wizard who has ever lived.” Under normal circumstances he may have hidden that desire from the woman who was finally sitting opposite of him again. Yet he knew it was no secret, everyone knew his goals even if they weren’t spoken often merely by how hard he pushed himself in training. It had long ago become obvious he would lead the pack or push himself to the point of death in the attempt, so for many it came as no surprise he wanted to lead the pack in life after the academy as well. “Now that I have divulged my life goals, perhaps you will do the same?” His voice still held its bored tone, making it very difficult to judge if the question was earnest curiosity or the boredom of a nobleman. |

A thoughtful look interrupted Katrina’s display of amusement and curiosity, his response wasn’t nearly as exciting as she hoped but she let that go with a muttered comment more to herself then to him. “I wonder…” Bringing her glass up to her lips she let those whispered words settle in the air like a heavy blanket before she lowered her wine and licked her lips to catch the few drops that took harbor upon her bottom lip. Nothing was what met the eye, she knew this and she lived this - it was times like these that she wished her own magic was stronger then it was but she was carefree and schedules never suited her so studying often went forgotten. She had been working on strengthening her mental powers verses such tangible magic that Cameron seemed to have, she preferred watching the persons will crumble to her anyways. The process was slow moving, delayed time and time again but she knew she’d get there eventually - she had centuries ahead of her why waste the younger years on study? A slight chuckle escaped her lips to her own procrastination, sloth was such an inhibiting sin when the times came that she kicked herself in the ass for not getting the ball rolling. Cameron’s inquiry brought Kat back to the present time and her eyes flickered to him before a smile stretched across her features while she spoke “If I told you that I’d expect a little more then ‘I wish to become the most powerful high wizard who ever lives…’” She let her voice drop a few octaves, a monotone and bored tone erasing her natural musical notes while she mimicked him. Kat’s smile turned into a grin before she returned to the velvet voice she typically spoke in “…but to be fair I’ll tell you one of my goals and that is to find out the truth.” The air was charged with a serious note when she fell silent, she let the vagueness linger while she went back to sipping her wine in search for a new question to probe the mage with. “Where are you heading now that you’re graduated from school?” Interest returned to her eyes while she directed the conversation back to him, she never liked talking about herself and was more comfortable firing off odds and ends for Cameron to reveal. It was drawing back the curtains upon others that often led to her to understand and ultimately hate the creatures that roamed this land more, it was the experience that she learned through them that formed her gradually growing resentment. Perhaps he’d be different, a new discovery amongst those who seemed repetitive in their studies, perhaps but she doubted it. Only one way to find out Kat. |

Cameron almost sighed at her response to his question, it was so… boring. He’d answered her inquiry honestly and simply in the hopes of getting information from her and the gambit had failed. It seemed his feminine companion was not in the mood to talk about herself and that very fact inspired Cameron’s curiosity. People never hide things about themselves unless they have a reason to hide it and the fact her reason so far eluded him made it a most interesting game. Most, when confronted by a wizard of any rank spoke everything they knew without much effort for fear of being forced to tell by some ghastly magic. This woman however wither knew magic well enough to know that even the most powerful mind control magic can be fought off or had some reason not to fear it. Of course it could all be a bluff, but the momentary look of seriousness that lingered in the air lead him to believe that was not the case. “The truth is such an elusive thing, for there is no one whole truth. Perception governs how the individual view the world and as such everyone has their own unique truth. Thus a quest for it is not something I envy you.” As normal his voice was calm and bored, though the faintest hint of pity could be detected. Yet it was not natural pity from some compassionate soul but rather the forced kind nobles so often share among themselves. Thankfully there was virtually no pause before she answered her next question, his words ending just as hers began. The timing was perfect, and he used the opportunity to stem any forthcoming retorts so that she would have to fester on his prior words, “I will head for home, of course. I haven’t seen my parents in over ten years. If you want a more accurate location you should try not being so vague. Though… perhaps you’re scared I’ll uncover some great secret of yours.” Pride had a nasty way of backfiring on the ones who held it close, yet after his words were left to linger in the air he couldn’t help but feel that dangerous emotion. She had left herself open to a jab about fear and while it went without saying she’d have some witty way out of the trap, the fact she’d let it be lain in the first place boded well for his chances of catching her in a mental trap later. If he’d given it real thought he might have considered that such thinking was dangerous but, if nothing else, the alcohol currently inhibited such prudent thinking. Without another word he took another small sip of his whiskey, finishing off his glass and setting it aside for the moment while awaiting the expected response. |

The pity in his voice made her blood boil just below the surface, the pity that seemed to enhance the subtle red wisps of color that hinted within the gold of her iris. Pity, such a simple thing but all in all it was enough to entice her wrath - Katrina’s hands shifted to place the glass upon the table so her claws didn’t crack the glass. For a moment she didn’t say a word, she glanced down to her lap and drew a claw along her thigh to appear to be simply lost in thought as she listened to him speak. He turned to her question without much hesitation, distracting her from the monster clawing its way out of her stomach - when her eyes snapped up to him they were just a hair more red but unless one’s eyesight was enhanced it was likely to go unnoticed. Barely a second later a laugh broke from her lips, cutting the tension in her body like a knife through butter “Yes I’m terrified of your greatness - you caught me Cam…” Raising to her feet Katrina fell just as quickly and smoothly to her knees were she let her body drape down over her thighs and her hands grace the floor above her head in an exaggerated bow of unworthiness. “Please forgive me God King of the known Universe! I shant hide things from you again.” Katrina stayed in that position a moment, her wings draped over her back in a way that showed off her back side before she flipped her head back, her ebony curls bouncing while her hands slid along the tavern floor as she sat back on her heels. There was silent laughter in her expression before she bowed her head and spoke “Perhaps I was a bit to vague, I’d like to find out the truth of the mind - all of its inner workings.” Pausing she pushed herself to her feet with a rocking motion before she moved over to him though instead of getting in his face this time she simply took his bottle of scotch and refilled his glass. “It’s always interesting to see how the puzzle pieces fit together is it not? Almost like …” she paused long enough to wrap her clawed hand around his glass before continuing in a sing-song voice “…the knee bones connected to the leg bone, the leg bones connected to the foot bone…” she trailed off and switched to humming while she lifted his glass to her lips though instead of taking a drink she simply inhaled the scent before replacing it on his table. “I personally don’t think it is that simple … what do you think Cameron, is everything in the mind connected like a long venomous snake or are there breaks in the link?” Her voice stroked over his name with general interest attached to her questions before she moved back to her own seat and took up her wine once more. |

Her act was a complicated one, and he watched the whole thing through a veil of neutrality to best keep his emotions from showing through. There was a moment when he was certain she would fall right into his trap, let one of the sins she talked of so much get the better of her and the night would end in a shoot out of fireballs, lightning bolts and blades. Yet she had managed to do something which didn’t happen all that often… she had surprised him. Despite the groundwork for the trap having been laid so well she managed to not only side step it, but make a show that now had the whole bar staring at them in confusion and more than a little bit of fear. Even the tavern keepers interest, which was usually carefully kept on cleaning glasses when Cameron was in the bar, had turned to watch them. The look in his eyes obviously one of a man afraid his entire life work was about to go up in a cloud of smoke and destruction. The sight of it all elicited a small laugh from his lips and he couldn’t help but put his hands together in slow applause. The sound of his hands impacting one another seemed to drive the bar even closer to the point of hysteria, though the other patrons settled as other wizards dressed in dark green robes entered the establishment. They were obviously classmates of Cams by the sashes they wore though not one went anywhere near the table at which both him and the woman now sat, instead moving straight to the bar. With the appearance of the new magic users Cam allowed his clapping to cease, instead taking his newly filled glass in his hand and taking a large swallow of the strong liquid, careful to show no sign that the harsh liquor burned at all going down. It was all obvious posturing, not just for Kat but for the other magic users now as well. “A student of the mind,” His words were no longer his usual level of boredom, though they were still disinterested at best, “now that is curious. I wouldn’t have pegged you for the type to take an interest in something that requires so much… patience.” He smiles faintly at his obvious jab, but for the first time since the evening had begun he was beginning to truly enjoy himself. The woman has made herself that much more interesting, a true enigma which he full intended to unravel as he did all other mysteries. Yet his work to discover who the woman was beneath the surface was no longer a sideshow for the fearful and weak, it now had an audience worthy of a true High Wizard and it had brightened his mood considerably. |

Katrina’s body adjusted to give him and the rest of the bar her back for a moment, the audience they - or rather she mostly - had attracted simply made her grin even more. Backing up a step or two she let the arm of his chair catch her weight, one leg sliding over the other until she leaned back against his chair in a lazy position without actually sitting in his lap. Her arm draped over the head of the chair as she looked down at him and twirled the corner of her lips up, it was an almost arrogant position despite the fact she wasn’t attempting to make it so. Leaning down she placed her lips near his hair, if he let her while her eyes cast out across the room and she whispered in clear amusement “Oh the chaos we could bring to a city Cameron…” Pulling back she let a low rumbling chuckle escape her before her eyes lazily lit back upon him, she was enjoying the company for now - the audience being her favorite part as she toyed and tugged on the puppet strings of the tavern like a grand master. The only one, much to her inward annoyance, that was immune to such displays seemed to be the man she was crowding at the moment - perhaps that was why he fascinated her. He didn’t act like the general public. He didn’t sit there on the verge of hysteria like much of the crowd was, it was a change though she wasn’t sure if it was a nice one or not yet. “When it comes to patience that is all in the eyes of the beholder - yes …” her voice strummed a soft whisper like a pro, one minute falling to her knees in a grand display and the next speaking with intelligence. “… I’m constantly studying Cameron. I‘m an exhibitionist and I enjoy the twists and turns it takes me on …there are a lot of lulls in my line of study but if you look out at the crowd, watch their expressions and their reactions … then watch yours.” Her eyes sparkled darkly while she adjusted her weight on the arm of his chair to get more comfortable, her wings tucked into her back tightly so as not to be bothered. Reaching around him she went to grab his bottle of scotch hoping to take a drink of it before he could stop her, glancing back at him she smiled innocently and then inclined her head to the people at the bar. “Tell me what you think Cameron, are they faking their horror at the displays going on in this corner or are they truly that weak that a little acting makes them quiver?” |

One of the very first things a High Wizard must learn is an extraordinary patience when it comes to dealing with other people. From the first moment of training it becomes clear that much of ones life will be spent among old books while the other half is spent putting the skills learned into practical use in order to make a difference in the world. Many wizards of any classification fall into darkness if they lose that patience, trying to climb the rungs of power too quickly and thus making use of forbidden magic to do it. Cameron however had always firmly believed in the teachings of patience, it had in no small part assisted him in climbing to the head of his class. It was the same patience he’d exorcised in classrooms and libraries that he exorcised now as Kat sat on the arm of his chair to continue her show, listening to all her words but remaining silent overall through the whole display. Even as she reached for his rather expensive bottle of scotch he didn’t stop her, allowing her to drink from the bottle unhindered as he mulled over her words. Some part of him hated her for the fact that she was right about the crowed, almost making him swallow the biting words he’d spoken about her lack of patience earlier… almost. Instead however he brought his glass back to his lips and swallowed the entirety of the remaining liquid, feeling the warm glow slide down his throat to add to the already raging fire currently in his belly. Alcohol was far nicer to swallow than words. “They are watching a high wizard and some manner of avian in what could easily be considered sparing.” His voice was at best disinterested, though a distinct note of humor had worked its way into the deep tone, “They would be foolish if they were anything other than terrified. Though they now have three minor wizards to watch over them from the bar.” As if on cue the three wizards who’d walked in only moments ago tossed hateful glances to Cameron and he couldn’t help but smile faintly. Jealousy was such an ugly and amusing emotion, something he loved to cause in others and he knew that the three men at the bar were all but green over the fact he’d earned the white robe. Not many at the academy liked Cameron if only for his uncanny natural talent, though he did have one friend who’d had to leave a year earlier due to family issues. Without missing a beat he flicked his gaze to the woman beside him, holding up his glass, “Make yourself useful if you’re going to share my scotch and fill my glass back up.” |

“So then I am foolish I suppose because I do not fear the big bad mage.” She smiled again, the amusement in his tone not lost on her despite his usual disinterest - he was a conundrum and she was determined to figure him out. Glancing behind her to eye the crowd she finally noticed the other mages that had entered, a trio that were clearly basking in the depths of the green sea as they scowled over at Cameron. Kat’s lips parted and a laugh escaped her again “See what I mean? You can learn a lot by watching … they are consumed by envy - your kind are full of sin.” Her words drifted off when he told her to make herself useful, a sly grin crossed her lips and she raised the scotch bottle “Yes of course Master.” Her tone softened to feigned slavery as if she was speaking to a King in his throne. She released the liquid from the bottle letting it fill his glass in a waterfall that splashed along the sides but she was careful to not actually spill any of the expensive alcohol. “Is there anything else I can do to fulfill your wishes?” Tilting the bottle back she rested the bottom upon her thigh and watched him teasingly. It was to easy to play with what he said, it was amusing and she could picture him with a group of slaves surrounding his feet fawning over him - granted she was never one to bow down it was always fun to joke. Glancing up again she tilted her head towards the group of mages before speaking “You know, you could always just indulge their jealousy … have a little fun … watch them swell fat with hatred like gluttonous vampires do with blood … Hatred, jealousy … will destroy a person. Change them.” She nodded her head, Kat let her voice remain light and airy - her typical teasing tones of the night though she was no stranger to the changes these sins caused and she was far from done changing because of them. He grumbled at her obviously feigned obedience and slavery, clearly wanting to be no ones “Master” just by the look he cast her way. Though despite the momentary grumble he simply allowed her to set the bottle of scotch on her thigh, lifting his glass to his lips and taking a long swallow to keep from making any statements he’d regret later. She was trying to push his buttons, it was more than obvious, but he needed a whole lot more to drink before he allowed her to do so with any type of true amusement. Though as she spoke about his magical counterparts his interest came right back to the situation even as he’d begun to lose it. Her words were like a poison for how badly they made him want to stand and incinerate those across from him despite the amount of humor gained from their more than obvious jealousy. Thankfully he wasn’t yet drunk enough to easily succumb to the suggestions of another, instead merely returning the scowls and glares of his classmates before refocusing his attentions to the woman beside him. “You speak an awful lot about sins, so tell me Kat, what are your hidden sins?” His tone was calm and indifferent though the earlier not of amusement was still present as he eyed the woman at his side a little more thoroughly. She had to be a demon; it was the only possible answer, for even a fallen angel would have more tact than this strange woman. Or at least, he hoped they would. He didn’t even wait for her to answer the question before continuing along the same thought process, “Surely you must have some sins hidden in your closet after all, no one is pure these days.” There was no malice in his tone, simply continued indifference as he watched her closely. |

The bottle was cool compared to Kat’s thigh raising goose bumps several inches around the diameter, her body adjusted while her long legs dangled out in a svelte line of toned flesh. “Oh I never try to hide my sins dear Cameron…” As if to make her point she shifted her weight to pull herself a bit closer to him, her full crimson lips hovering just along the length of his jaw if he didn’t move while her warm breath skated along his skin. “Wrath, envy, sloth, greed, pride, vanity and of course …. Lust …. I embrace them all to varying degrees.” Pulling back from him she smiled and brought his bottle of scotch up to her lips taking another burning yet small sip - she didn’t really like the scotch but her wine was to far away for her to reach. “Though I will admit, lust is my favorite…” Sliding from his chair she moved to stand up, her body arching in a stretch causing the scotch bottle to raise above her head in turn. Her leathery black wings unfolded and snapped slightly to bring her body a few inches off the ground before she touched back down and relaxed again. “This tavern is to quiet for my taste…” she murmured before placing his bottle down and pivoting her body to face towards the bar where the trio of mages perched like vultures. “Hello boys…” Katrina spoke as she began walking over to them, other patrons of the tavern followed her with their eyes as she finally broke away from the object of her nights interest. “…I was wondering, would you settle something for me in a calm manner? You see … I thought you lot looked a bit … upset with my friend over there and I was just wondering … was it because you weren’t invited to sit with us or was it simply that Cameron is obviously ten times more successful then you three - most likely put together.” Her eyes danced the line between teasing and taunting while her voice took on an almost hypnotic tone, sultry and much more dream-like then it did when she spoke with Cameron as she suggested they stayed calm. |

There was no hesitation as her lips hovered along the length of his jaw, watching her from his peripheral vision without moving. Honestly he had no desire to take up any manner of intimate relations with the strange woman who had become his entertainment despite her beauty, but nor was he going to flee like some cornered animal just because she got close. In a way he felt that anything but a show of stern resolution not to move would be allowing her to win, so for the moment he merely watched and listened. It wasn’t until she stood that his interest perked, walking towards his classmates as though they were weak fools. In truth, he didn’t think of them much better than that himself but that didn’t mean any magic user should be underestimated. In fact he was half hoping they simply unleashed hell upon her and made the night interesting until she spoke, he words nearly making him choke on his scotch as he tried to take a sip. The reaction of the other wizards was as instantaneous as Cameron would have expected. All three stood in near perfect unison and the skin tingling sensation of magic beginning to form was more than clear in the air. They were mad and allowing their magic to run wild because of it, a sloppy habit among those supposedly more powerful. Almost the entire bar went silent before the pudgy little tavern keeper ran over to the four of them, waiving his arms franticly before speaking in a voice already squeaky with fear, “Please gentlemen, madam, not in my bar! Take your grievances out…” Cam didn’t give the man time to finish before standing slowly, both his hands virtually humming with electric energy. Lightning was still a relatively new trick in his arsenal but it had proven itself highly effective against living organisms thus far. The other wizards noticed the sudden eruption of electric energy moments after it had been cast and Cam couldn’t help but smile faintly, too slow he thought to himself as he unleashed two electric charges which hit the two to the right and left of the one standing before Kat herself. Both of the wizards impacted with the lightning shook violently for a moment before crumpling to the ground as though having been hit by a taser. Cam knew the overall potency of his lightning was still lacking so that both men would be back on their feet with only minor wounds before too long, but it was a good reminder as to why he was the head of the class and current leader on the duelling boards. “Just answer the woman’s question Donovin and put your petty tricks away unless you want me to choose a more effective element of wizardry for you personally.” Cam’s voice was bored, though there was a definite note of pride in being given the opportunity to show off his abilities, the tavern keep having long disappeared beneath the bar and out of sight while many of the patrons scooted their chairs and tables out of Cameron’s line of sight to keep from being struck by a misfire. Grumbling, the only green wizard still standing only managed to get out “Yea… envious…” before resuming his seat at the bar with no concern for his friends, swallowing what was left of his drink while trying to ignore the ones behind him. The sight made Cameron grin for just a moment before resuming his own seat. He had to give it to Kat… she certainly knew how to keep things interesting. |

Kat watched the three stooges stand up in a display of anger and power, their magic charged the room in unison making her laugh softly to herself. She wasn’t scared of the mages, she wasn’t scared of much in fact but her hands did shift at her sides allowing her claws to curve into weapons rather then nails as she watched with intent amusement. “Tsk tsk tsk boys, aren’t they supposed to teach you control at that pretty magic school of yours?” She spoke over the voice of the tavern keep, ignoring his pleas that they take it outside. Another shift of power entered the room only a second later, the source was behind her letting her believe it was Cameron. Katrina’s hands relaxed and she moved to cross them over her chest pushing her breasts up and out lewdly as she waited, she wasn’t disappointed when a second later bolts of lightening were shot out to the outside pair of the trio. A chuckle escaped her lips and her eyes stayed trained on the man before her as Cameron spoke demanding an answer from the one called Donovin and answer he did before sitting back down like a good little boy. She had to give it to Cameron, his display was definitely interesting and it made her wonder what else he could do though she doubted she could get him to explore that within the bar. Dancing up behind the lower mage as the patrons of the bar either stared, still in shock, or attempted to act as if nothing happened - her claws reached out to dance along the back of his neck before she leaned in letting his words brush beside his ear. “You should get something to help with your friends headaches after they come to I’m sure it’ll be a bit … electrifying.” A musical laugh escaped her before she turned around and headed back to her seat beside Cameron, her eyes turning onto him with an innocence that completely ignored the last five minutes. “So would you like to go light up the town or stay in a stuffy tavern? I’m sure the Keep will let you take your scotch with you.” Katrina smirked in amusement though her body was itching to get out of the tavern - she needed to stretch her legs, or paws. “The fresh air is much better anyways, it smells a little like burnt flesh in this place don’t you think?” A chuckle escaped her and she traced a finger around the rim of her wine glass absently before finishing her second glass off and pushing it aside not wishing to become completely hindered by the alcohol now coursing through her veins. |

An instructor had once told all the students of Cam's class that using magic was very similar to using any physical weapon one could imagine in that just like a sword it had to be "unsheathed" and "moved" in order to work. The greatest similarity however, was the adrenaline rush that flowed quickly through the bloodstream the moments immediately before and immediately after any combat situation. It was such that the twin lightning bolts he'd sent out had sparked within him a rush of heart pounding clarity which cut through the alcohol in his system like a knife, giving him the momentary clarity required to understand the full implications of Katrina's words when she finally returned to the table. "I suppose this place is getting a bit... stuffy." Almost as if on cure Cam's gaze shifted to the now seated Donovin, eyeing the man in the way one might expect a lion to look at an antelope. His eyes cold and calculating, as though trying to decide whether or not to just set the man on fire right now and save himself from having to do it later. Ultimately though he just shakes his head and eyes Katrina, his voice soft, "Well c'mon then." Without another word grabs the bottle of scotch and begins walking for the door, flicking his gaze behind him only once to be sure Katrina is following before going out the tavern door and into the open air of the city at night. (hah, beat my record and managed to stay under 300 words. Whoot. *win*) |
