Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

Rana sat and stared at the mossy rock that has been his pillow the night before. His eyes were distant and his body slumped against a tree, exhausted from his lack of appetite. He turned slowly and stared at the skinned body of the rabbit he had prepared, but hadn't been bothered to cook.

Around him was a great forest with tall trees and countless boulders. There was more moss than grass and tiny streams ran throughout the entirety of it. Rana had rested in a dip in the ground, lined with smooth boulders and soft ground. It was easily five times his height around and was shaped like a tiny crater, as if at one point there had been a pond there.

Rana sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, slowly awaking from his rest. He grimaced and leant on his arm, then the rock, and stood up, wobbling on his feet. He took a breath and pulled down his hood. A thin, misty shadow flowed from his mouth like breath on a cold morning. He stepped forward and leisurely pulled his body up onto a boulder and sat leaning forward, smiling at the serenity of the woods.

Agnar walked through the forest of Agnkar. Though i was very different from the ones he was used to in Soto, they still reminded him of those woods so far away. Behind him marched 6 clones of himself, all side by side. Blue, yellow, red, dark purple, orange and green robed clones. Each looked exactly like Agnar, but all marched perfectly in unison with each other. All were quiet as they continued on through out the wooded area.

Rana nearly dozed off there on the rock, leaning on his arm; and when he saw Agnar ahead of him he thought he had. He blinked, interested, then realized that it was not a dream. There were seven men, and each appeared identical but in a different rope. Rana tilted his head and closed his eyes. They were far off, but when he searched for their presence all he could find was one, which to him appeared as a great, morphing shape which folded in on itself and took a new image constantly.

Rana slid to the edge of the rock and hopped to the ground, walking slowly and cautiously. "Hello?" He whispered, forgetting to speak louder. He paused, then projected mentally his question. "What are you doing?"

The purple one began to wave at Rana while making a rediculous expression on his face. The green one glared at him, and smacked him up side the head, whispering something that was completely unaudible. The true Agnar began to scratch his bear as a booming voice spoke from behind Rana.

"OH! JUST PASSING THROUGH AND ALL! AWWW YAAA KNOW! HYUCK HYCUK HYUCK!"

The red one's eyes widened at the sound of it, as if surprised by what had just happened while the remaining ones conversed with each other. It was rather funny to tell the truth. How each one reacted. Each did what they were suppose to do according to Agnar's design.

"I'd say that about covers it pale hooded one."

Rana's eyes widened in surprised and he stumbled forward when he heard the voice, but he realized the illusion when he turned back around. The bodies he could not feel were acting ridiculous. He stared forward, bewildered, as the air around him rippled and the light coming down from the branches dimmed.

"What are they?" He whispered, both with his mouth and his mind.

"He doesn't see!"

"He doesn't know!"

"Laughable! Absolutely laughable!"

"In fact it's complete madness."

"Feeling us? Oh my..."

"You know, you got to admit that we are pretty convincing."

All the clones spoke one after another as they looked at Rana with mixed reactions. Agnar turned around and the pointed at each of them. As he did, they all exploded into confetti. All but one at least.

"No wai! don't do tha- GAAAHH!" The grenn one yelled as he exploded into dust and then faded away into nothingness. Agnar then turned around.

"Ahh...mah boy! I'm an illussionist. I fool the eye and the mind with my spells, tricks and mannerisms. But you knew just by...feeling? Interesting. interesting." Agnar said as he tapped his quarterstaff on the ground and scratched his beard once again. It was becoming a rather bad habit.

Rana smiled for a moment as the last vision died. The illusionist had a sense of humor. He looked past Agnar for a moment, then spoke. "I... would at least expect you to know that not everything is... physical." Rana muttered under his breath. He caught himself and repeated what he said at a normal volume.

"I haven't spoken to anyone for a long time... I'm sorry." He shrugged, his eyes looking tired. "But why are you even here? An illusionist?" Rana wrung his hands, unsure of how to react to Agnar. "I'm... Rana, by the way..."

"A hermit living in these woods? You are too young to do such a thing." Agnar said. "I will not play with you with my usual charade, you are...different....I do not how, but I can feel it. Anyway, I am simply passing through, having recently come out of hermiting in the woods of Soto. I simply travel now, getting back into my field." Agnar said. "You may call me Agnar."

Rana nodded slightly and sighed. "I wouldn't call myself a hermit. I just... Don't have a place to go." He glanced around himself, and though there wasn't a city that could even hope to be as beautiful as the woods, or the mountains. But aside from that, he didn't fit with other people. "And what is your field?" He asked, drifting off in the middle of his last word.

"Spell crafter slash illussionist." Agnar said without hesitation. "So you have no place to go? Why is that, exiled perhaps, a wanderer. Lost in this vast world?" Agnar couldn't help but wonder who this man was, he was young and yet, something about him seemed odd. It bothered Agnar. He wanted answers to these questions.

Rana gripped one of his elbows with his other hand and stood there awkwardly for a moment. He took a long breath. "I left where I lived when I was small. I simply... don't have any reason to go back."

He looked up at Agnar and squinted. "And you?" He asked quizzically.

"Small! Who sends an 8 year old out into the world on their own with nothing but a handful of change and a heart filled with dreams!" Agnar said laughing. "Don't really matter for me, that was bout 300 or so years ago my boy."

He started to catch his breath, small and leaving. No reason to go back, he was trying to be vague clearly.

"So, what's the real reason you left home, you are being vague for a reason yes."

Rana's grip on his elbow tightened, then he let go and tilted his head back to look at the sky behind Agnar.

"Doesn't really matter for me, either. It was ten years ago... And I'm not young anymore." He sighed and, lifting his eyebrows, continued. "I'm not being vague because I can."

Rana was becoming more and more antsy. Agnar seemed sincere and he certainly wasn't threatening, but it didn't matter; the man was too questioning. Too interested. Rana didn't know why he had been suspicious in the first place. It had just been the site of seven identical men, and a mind that felt unstable, like it couldn't decide on a form to take.

"Lighten up a little." Agnar said and cross his arms, giving a smile, he casted something new, it should be rather funny. Only to Agnar. Hidious laughter. A new spell he developed, he needed a test subject anyhow. He could only wonder just how effective this spell would actually be. There was nothing more for him to do then watch, wait and observe.

Rana was about to speak when a force grasped hold of his chest. He trust it forward and bellowed in painful laughter, the harsh sound of it hurting his throat. His lungs burned for a moment, then he fell on the ground and, arms out and chest in the air, continued to giggle uncontrollably. His eyes were fearful as shadows lashed out violently with every spasm.

Rana rolled desperately onto his stomach and gripped at his belly, pulling his knees up so he was facing the ground. He continued to laugh as his eyes began to tear. He reached out an arm towards Agnar and made a fist, twisting his wrist. The air around Agnar expanded, then pushed back fairly powerfully in a plume of blackness which quickly vanished.

Agnar was knocked to the ground ten feet away. He hit the ground rather hard. He got up from the ground and brushed off his robe. He cracked his neck and then his arms and looked at Rana who was now laughing uncontrollably. The spell worked. Agnar smiled, though it was hidden underneath all his face fur.

"Oh I said lighten up. Your laughing now. Don't be so hostile. It should wear off soon. I think."

Rana's outstretched arm flew back and he again sprawled out on his chest, laughing so hard he could barely breath. He grasped at a root, which burst into deep purple and shimmering black flames and began to wither. He pounded the ground with a leg and did all in his strength to regain composure, to control his body, but failed.

Agnar looked puzzled. He should have been calming down by now. He was begining to worry.

"Any day now." He said to himself, he hoped Rana wouldn't laugh himself to death. "Oh my....this is rather....long."

He gripped his quarterstaff nervously. hoping the boy would stop laughing soon.

Rana suddenly managed to take a breath. He began to sigh in relief, but the laughing continued. He gripped a rock and pulled himself up, still yukking and gasping. His entire body was shaking, and when the spell began to wear down he felt intense pain in his sides. He hadn't spoken for easily a year, and the laughing could only have done harm.

Rana again took a breath, better than the one before, but as he did he was forced a chuckle. His throat felt like it would close from the impossible stress. He hiccuped a few times, then tried to speak. His voice was hoarse and it felt worse to talk.

As his breath returned slowly, Rana took easy steps toward Agnar, who had fallen hard. Around him pirouetted sharp lines of void, all bending and whipping out randomly before returning to their revolution. As he approached the foolish old man they sped up.

A choleric voice roared in Agnar's head, but Rana's mouth was shut. It was nothing like the shy whisper he had had before. "You asinine old fool! You think you're a comedian?"

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet's broom putted through the air, which rushed over her arched back and blew the crooked tip of her hat violently back and forth in the air. The ends of her dress fluttered in the wind, and she kept her eyes in a squint as the wind flew through the sky. Abruptly she tilted the broom diagonally downwards, her hands tightening on the wooden shaft as she did so.

Nearer to the ground she found herself flying above a large expanse of trees. A forest. She smiled fondly in memory of her last visit to a forest. The memory seemed to awaken a hidden desire within herself. Yes, it was time for a bit of witchery. She chuckled to herself, who would be her target today? She flew lower of the forest so that she could see those who walked beneath the great branches below, her victims.

She pulled her broom to an immediate stop, her sharp ears had caught something. Something like, like laughter? She flew lower so that she was brushing the tops of the trees with the soles of her feet. She watched as a young man, laughed uncontrollably, and from the corner of her eye she saw an elderly man watching amused. She zeroed in on the elderly man. Picking on the old and weak was such a treat.

"I'll be honest. Some people find it kinda funneh in a way." Agnar said sarcastically. "Well ya make conversation with meh and you just act all vague in such. You couldn't be more then 22, yet you act all wise and what not. Don't be such a smartass."

Agnar crossed his arms and pouted a bit.

"When you get to be 200 years old, then maybe you can say it was a long time ago. So maybeh you wanna answer teh question now, tell meh what happened in your past to make ya leave your homeland."

The tenebrous whips flared around Rana, flexing violently when Agnar spoke.

"And why do you need to know? Age has nothing to do with wisdom"

As Rana fumed, however, he began to feel awkward. He was being foolish... The shadows began to fade, but before he could say anything he turned and saw Scarlet heading toward them.

"It has lot's to do about it." Agnar said coldly and annoyed. "To deny it is foolish. I see you are begining to understand." He noted that Rana began to calm down, that he took notice of something in the sky. Agnar cared not.

He tapped the ground with his quarterstaff and scratched his chin. Waiting for the boy to speak up again. Perhaps he could help him in someway?

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet eyed the young man, who appeared to be able to control shadows, or something similar, he even appeared to notice her. It was now or never, or he would alert the old fart. Gripping the wooden shaft of the broom she immediately headed straight down diagonally through the air toward the old man. She raised her hand up to cover her face as she crashed through the branches of the trees and laughed maniacally. She had flown directly through the tree canopy, her eyes glittering as she raised her hand once more as it glowed an eerie green.

The old man still seemed blissfully unaware of his predicament, she had no time to think whether it was a trap. Coming from behind with her glowing green hand leaned over, she whacked him in the back of the head. The green energy seemed to transfer as the old man's neck whipped forward. "Oh ho ho ho ho" she cried out as she spun her broom around leaving it hovering as the green light travelled across the old man's body. She noted that he wasn't running around wildly in terror, it was probably because he was too old. She smiled. There was a puff of green smoke, and once it faded away, a rather large toad wearing the same clothes, and carrying a staff stood before her. Though, it had a beard, which was very very weird.

"And now you see boy! Meh true form! I am the.....hm...." He pauded for a second unsure of what he was. "The great toad sa-!" Agnar then looked up at the women before him, dressed in red. A typical witch. She was fairly attractive too. Agnar has a thing for witches, though she was definently way too young for him. He gripped his staff, though he was a toad.

"And.....you are the....wicked....yet rather attractive...witch who hath turned me into a toad I assumed." Agnar said. "So....uhh....I dunno...you going to sell me, cook me? Somethin along those lines I guess?"
