Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

Mjor

The woman sat down, which was a good sign... Obviously she either felt slightly indebted to him, or geniuinly wanted to speak more with him. He could work with either... But something about her still was digging at the back of his brain, it was that brief moment of silence he suffered when she came in, it bothered him that a human woman could do so much to him... He had thought himself immune to the charms of others in part... She did not appear to be chanting any kind of magic to make her appear more attractive to others, so he left the idea it was all a trick to rob him blind aside, if it was other people in the bar looked wealthier than him, and he had approached her... But... Was it some kind of trick? Blasted woman making him doubt himself. They were all the same... No matter how pretty this one was, no matter if she did use some trick or no, she was the same at heart.

"Thankyou" Mjor smiled at her compliment, glancing away from her, and taking a small sip of his drink, which hid his face moreso. He was careful not to take too large a sip, or else he would be getting a little tipsy, which would do nothing to help him. Even if this one was out the picture, he did not want to get drunk with Judeua around, he didnt trust the old freak. "But its not that suprising, I travel a lot, and have quite a dangerous occupation... Most women don't like that... They run away..." he called upon different memories to make his eyes glaze over, as if he was recalling a painful memory, but only for a second "So I am just me" he made another easy smile, although this time it was done more in a way to make it seem as if he didnt want to talk further on the subject "By the way, I am Mjor, Mjor Orjtarn, fighter-for-hire, may I ask what name can be used for one as intriguiningly good looking as yourself?" he gestured to make a small kiss to her hand, although kept the movements looking a little unnatural, so as to make it look like he wasn't overly sure what he was doing.

He no longer cared about whether he was showing the bearded one anything or not... Which would later annoy him that he got so caught up in a mere girl.

"They run away..." said the man, his eyes glistening for a moment as he stared at her. It pierced her heart to hear such a thing, it was so sad. To have someone you love, flee from you because of an occupation, how could one survive being so lonely? She knew that she would surely not be able to smile as freely as he did now, if she were in his predicament. "So I am just me" She knew that she could never survive with such utter loneliness or lack of love. Just to travel and fight without anyone to go home to, at least she still had her family when she eventually returned home. Even if they were gone, she would have her immortal grandmother and the various other spirits. "By the way, I am Mjor, Mjor Orjtarn, fighter-for-hire, may I ask what name can be used for one as intriguingly good looking as yourself?" he brought her right hand upward awkwardly, she smiled at him, for she knew what he was to do. Receiving it as a sign of encouragement, he kissed her hand. She had always thought it a charming gesture.

She caught herself, was she being lured into something she would not be able to control? He was a man after all. She vividly remembered all the things her father had lectured her, that unmarried men could and would do. The dangers that lurked in their smiles, and voices. Her mother had also reminded her of the gifts she had been endowed with, being the grandchild of a nymph. She decided she would not worry, but she would not completely waltz into his arms.

Alyssa laughed softly at his compliment. "I am Lady Alyssa Orvacious" she said with a smile. "I don't really have an occupation, but I sell various potions for the experience" She leaned her head on her hand, "So you are a mercenary? What adventures you must have had" she said keenly interested.

Mjor

She smiled as he took her hand, giving him the all clear. Ever so softly he bowed his head to kiss the back of her hand, gently brushing his lips against her skin before returning to how he sat. Again, he found his mind strangely focused on this woman... He had been subjected to the charms of many a noble lady and many a common girl, and usually he had been quite capable to exploit them, to hone in on an insecurity or find a point of pride and work on it to get what he wanted... And here he was just speaking to her. He told himself that his goal was still the same, so it did not matter. The details never mattered, only the big picture.

And then... Ahh... She was a Lady. That was interesting, that meant she was rich, in all likelyhood... And money was a constant which Mjor felt only love for. Perhaps she would hire him as a bodyguard, if she got to know him enough, and had need. That would give him plenty of time to get to know her... To get to know all of her... Whilst making a pretty penny, before he moved on and away. It also meant servants, who were usually pleased to hear that their high and mighty masters could be reduced to the same as them...

However, Mjor communicated none of that, instead he acted with a little shock "You are a Lady?" he said, a little (faux) taken aback "I am so sorry, I must have seemed very innappriopriate, reffering to you as an equal of someone like me" he added as much of a negative undertone to the ast few words as he could "I am very sorry, M'lady" he continued, before looking at her "If it will make it up to you, I will tell you any story I know..." he took another small sip, this time making it look as if he was trying to be polite as possible. The act now was the exact same as the one he used around clients.

"However, my lifestyle is not really that glamourous, most of the jobs I take are either dull, or things I would rather not have to do, that killing is my only talent is nothing to celebrate" he looked away from her "But... I do need to make up for my transgretions..." he sighed "But the most exciting bit is the freedom, the sleeping under the stars, the knowledge that you can go anywhere... I met a man once, and we were hired to guard the construction of a bridge, turned out it stole a lot of land of some old farmers, who hired their own mercenaries... But we used to sit around fires until well into the morning just... Being free. You have to do it, really." he frowned a little "He is dead now. Turned into a big fight over the land rights, they were happy to let us die as we weren't anyone they knew, so it turned out I was the only mercenary who survived, from our side" he gave a bried description of the late night ambush, of how his friend had died instantly and ungloriously with an axe in the skull.

"There is no glamour in what I do... I am just the person who people use to fight battles they arent willing to die for themselves" he finished, bitterly sipping his drink.

Agnar took another whisk of the drink and ease dropped in on the conversation. As he listened, he deduced that Mjor was indeed a flirt, but there was something more, something that bothered him. Telling stories and tales after buying this women all her drinks. He looked over in Mjor's direction and took a whisk of the drink again. Though it was watered down, he was getting used to the taste.

"Waiter! Another please." He asked ever so politly. A voice then began to speak ever so softly within Mjor's ear. A message only he could hear.

"You best not be trying to take advantage of the young miss lad. Such ill things tend to have ill consequences."

The waiter then came back with the drink and placed it in front of him. Agnar then began to sip on the beer.

"Mjor, you hear something?" He asked him. "Some kind er voice or somethin' in teh air."

Alyssa laughed softly, her eyes twinkling, patting him on the shoulder friendlily. Though she was slightly disappointed with herself. Was it wise for her to reveal that she was a lady? It wasn't that she was worried that she'd be kidnapped. She just didn't like the class separation of those who were considered beneath her. Commoners almost always seemed to grovel at her feet when she was at the castle, it was as if they felt nobles were akin to gods or something. She couldn't really blame them though, she was sure her ancestors were the ones who beat and widened the gap when dealing with the people while they conquered the lands. Hopefully he wouldn't treat her like a newborn, and attempt the you're much to dainty to be told tactic. She despised it.

"Oh it's alright" she said "While we are here, you and I are equal. See? We sit under the same roof, despite our class. Think nothing of my title." she said with a smile. To her delight, Mjor began to tell her the lifestyle of a mercenary. She understood, that the life of a mercenary was one filled with risk and bloodshed, but when he spoke of freedom. She completely understood. It was as if he were reading her very soul. Her eyes took on a dream-like state as he talked about freedom. Sleeping under the stars, running through forests, splashing through rivers, the ability to do anything you want on a whim. That truly was the life she loved.

The mood changed to one that was quite sombre, as he spoke about his friend, and the job he had while he guarded the bridge. She felt his pain, she had never lost a friend through brutal battle, but she could still put herself in his situation. Especially for one who was so alone in the world, to have no one to hold, to go home to, to lose a friend must have been devastating. Such was the life of a mercenary. Alyssa watched Mjor as he took a sip of his drink, the crazy looking old man asked for another drink, and murmured something afterwards out loud.

"I am sorry for your loss" she said with a sad smile. "I suppose freedom has its price" Alyssa wondered whether her version of freedom had its own price. Would she too suffer the loss of a lost one while on her travels? It was a question she did not want answered.

Mjor

Mjor was quite pleased with how it was going with this one. Even if he did not understand why he felt... Different about her, he had to admit they got on well. She did not want to be treated differently, and the way she reacted to his talk of freedom... It was almost as if she was the same as him, in that respect. It was almost as if he could actually get on with her, as if she was a person, like him. Almost. "In that case, I shall forget that you even mentioned your title" he said to her softly "Although one as radiant as you can never truly have an equal".

Then that idiot Judeau had to but in. He could tell it was him, he was the only one who seemed to care what he said to her, he was the only one who showed himself able to make illusions, he probably made himself invisible, left an illusion in his seat and came over and whipsered it. His subtle hint after was even more proof. So he wasnt a fool after all, he was just messing with people. Mjor briefly entertained the idea of putting his glaive through his skull, but couldnt with the Lady there. "I think I heard something" he replied quickly and curtly to the old man "Although it seems to think of me as someone I am not" he lied, making a glance which questionned just what the old man was doing. He truly had had enough of this man.

He turned back to Alyssa, whom was much less hassle, and actually held the prospect of him getting something he wanted at the end of the conversation, possibly in money too. "Sorry about that... The guys... " he shook his head, not knowing the word, but tried to communicate what he thought of the mad old interferring idiot with his eyes. "And its not a loss, so to speak... I only met him a few days before he died. Its an occupational hazard, one day it may well be me" he smiled a little "But you can't think like that... You just enjoy the freedom, the knowledge that other than your next payment, you need not worry about anything... I love it... And I guess you have some experience of it, or else you would be more high and mighty like most nobles?" he grinned "So, you know about me, so how about you tell me a little about the lovely before me?"

"Alright then," replied Alyssa with a giggle, and clasping her hands together. "Well, you already know that I'm a noble. However unlike most girls my age I would journey out into the forest that surrounded my father's castle" Images of herself skipping and playing around the trees in her forest flashed back into her mind, making her smile fondly at the memories. "I suppose because of all the adventures I had as a child, I wasn't ready to settle down and get married. There was so much of the world I had yet to see." Her gaze clouded as she imagined the places she had to see. "Mountains I would climb, seas I would sail, forests I'd traverse, people I'd meet" she smiled at Mjor as she mentioned people "All of it so wonderful." She sighed happily.

"My parents are unusually liberal, and they allowed me to go on my journey. My mother always said I had the spirit of a nymph" she added playfully. Alyssa wasn't exactly sure how people would respond to her being related to a nymph, it was kind of a family secret. She had never thought to mention it to other people, but tonight she felt she could at least hint at it. Perhaps it was the wine that had loosened her tongue. "So anyways, I mainly travel now. I'll eventually return home, where my life will become utterly dull once I am matched up to a snobby noble's son." She frowned slightly at the thought.

Gabriel chewed on his knuckles uncomfortably. The woman who had entered the bar had drawn attention away from him, and he had been glad for it, but now she had sat down by Mjor and was chatting away. He took another drink from the waiter and slowly poured it down his throat, not swallowing, trying to wash away the taste of his metal flask. He sighed and continued gnawing on his hands.

"How... Saccharine." Lucifer said, folding his hands as he sat in a chair next to Gabriel, who didn't respond. "She looks like our aunt."

Gabriel stopped his biting and lowered his hand. He stood and sighed as the drinks took effect; his broken mind never managed alcohol properly. He plopped down in a seat nearer to Alyssa and Mjor. He frowned and wrung his hands. "Who's... Your parents?" He asked awkwardly, not stopping to think about the setback he was causing for Mjor's 'mission.'

Alyssa turned her head to the other man who had joined into the conversation. It didn't take a psychic to know that there was something disturbed about the man. But Alyssa's heart would never allow her to turn away someone because of their differences. She didn't know the man but she was willing to chat with him as long as he was willing to chat with her.

"Who's... Your parents?" He asked, in a strange manner she secretly had expected. "My parents? That's easy" she said with a giggle "My father is Lord Austen, and my mother is Lady Rosaline. Who might I ask are you?" she said interested in the mysterious person.

Gabriel's eyes lowered. "Uhm.... I'm... Gabriel. I... Uh..." He stopped mid-breath and twisted around to look at the empty seat behind him. Lucifer shrugged and muttered incoherently. "I'm just wondering around." He said.

"You sound like you've had a good life" Mjor agreed with her, not that he really had the option of saying he disagreed, even if he did. Truth be told... He almost actually liked her, for a women, her views on travel and freedom seemed markedly similar to his own, so far. The slight distaste she had for the noble way of life also rang true, as did the fact that she had resigned herself to having to deal with it, although in her case it was later in her life, in his it was every time he needed money, essentially. "It will be a sad day when you aren't free to be with us free folk... I'd love to spend more time with you..." he looked shocked, and pushed his (now empty) tankard away from him "Sorry, I spoke out of turn, its the drink" he explained, although his hand had now come to rest on the bar much closer to her than it had been... Everything seemed to be falling together... But still, what was it about her that was so different? She talked about her supposed Nympth spirit, was it something to do with that? Couldn't be, that would be silly. But when faced with the only other option being that he actually felt something towards this woman, it became more and more forced in his mind... This was not like him, not like him at all.

This confusion meant that he wasn't as annoyed as he would have been when the younger crazy fool joined in, although it set back his scheme somewhat, it gave him vital room to clear his head a little. His hand retreated a little back down the bar as Alyssa started speaking to him. He had to admit, he was impressed, Juduea spoke madness, this one wore it in his eyes. However, Mjor could not judge, everyone was someone, and everyone was free to be that someone.

"Its the lifestyle, eh?" he added after Gabriel mentioned his wandering tendancy "No master but your own, seeing everything that can be seen..." he grinned warmly at no memory in paticular "Although you always need money for things, which is tough, eh?" he looked at the guy and wondered why he asked that. No way was this man attached enough to reality to understand the principle of buying and selling.

A fool, a madman and a girl who confused him to the core. This was quite the evening.

Agnar simply sat there. Listenin and making it appear as though he was keeping to himself. All he was really concerned about now was what Mjor was planning. Gabriel spoke up, he was rather....strange. Something about him just seemed entriely off. It mattered little, he meant no harm, or at least Agnar thought he didn't. He took another drink of the liquor. Still a watered down. It was good in some respect because once Agnar vanished, the tavern would have lost that much more money for giving him the strongest, yet most watered down beer in the house.

Alyssa blushed and stared at her lap, as if she had found something very interesting to look at on it. She had known straight away that Mjor admired her, why else would he have given his offer of free drinks? Though, what did he expect from her, could it be possible for a man to not have an alternate motive? He was a young man at that, perhaps her age, handsome too, she liked the way he smiled at her. No. She stopped herself, she would not let lust or perhaps empathy allow her follow him to his bedchamber. She believed in true love and nothing else. She would have to stand firm.

"They say" she said softly, raising her gaze once she felt composed "That a tongue loosened by drink is foolish but speaks the truth." Glad that the focus had turned temporarily to Gabriel, who enjoyed wandering and travel much like herself. "Yes" she added brightly "Travelling truly is the good life"

"They say many things" Mjor commented to Alyssa "I tend not to listen to most of them, although that one was very well said". She had blushed when she looked down, he was sure of it. Did that mean... She liked him? No! He rallied against himself, he did not think like that! The woman must be casting some kind of spell to affect his thinking, it was a spell, or she was a nympth, or maybe he had drunk more than he thought. But it was something, he didn't think like that! Mentally he scolded himself for his weakness... Then again, this was not the first time he had been affected as such... Maybe it was the fact that she was a person he could get on with, if situations were different, as well as a very pretty face... That made him calm down to his rapidly thinking mind. It would be good, it would all work out... She would just be one of the ones he was prepared to hang around with for awhile, if such an oppurtunity came up. She was wealthy, or her parents were, after all, it would be well worth it. Mjor was no longer quite sure what he thought.

"It is" he agreed with her, although he smirked at the circular nature of the conversation "But I think its the fact I can, rather than the fact I do, that I enjoy so much" he shrugged, and then a thought struck him... He did not know quite the reason why, (part of him argued that it would make her much easier to triumpth against in his little scheme, part also seemed to honestly want to go) "However, there is one spot I love... Its a small glade below a waterfall, at sunrise the sunlight reflects of the water just" he pinched the air "Like that, its beautiful... I would like to see how it compares to another beauty I know" he looked at Alyssa.

Alyssa laughed, she had to give Mjor personal points for his last compliment, he sure knew how to speak to a woman. Her thoughts froze, he knew how to speak to a lady, did that mean that this was a routine? A game? A trap? Perhaps it was just the ale speaking for him, he did seem rather nervous before. Though, what if that had been a lie as well? Mjor seemed so nice, why was she doubting him now, would she doubt everyone she crossed paths with? It was part of the adventure. Besides, Mjor had mentioned something about a glade, and a beautiful one at that. She couldn't pass off an offer to see such a beautiful place. The air within the tavern had become a bit stuffy, a brisk walk outdoors would do her well. However, if she did go she would be alone with a man she had just met. A man who's actions and tongue were slightly touched with liquor. She mentally shrugged, the spirits of the glade would watch over her, she concluded.

"That sounds wonderful Mjor" said Alyssa with a smile. "I would definitely love to see such a place with you. Perhaps now?" she added, she hoped she didn't sound to hasty. Though she was eager to see the glade, perhaps the plants within would tell her something about its history or an interesting tale. She wanted to see the waterfall most of all though, and the spectacle that he had barely described, which peaked her interest even more.

She said yes. That was a shock, she seemed so careful and here she was ready to walk off with a man who, by his own admission, had a couple too many to drink. Then again, she had nothing to fear, he was many things, but he would not do anything unless she wanted it... People who forced themselves upon women in such a way were the worst type of scum. It was the making her want it that was the fun, the reward afterwards was... Well, he would not deny it was the sweetest of rewards, but the journey to it was just as rewarding, at times. Maybe thats why this one was so interesting, she was making him work for her... He did tire of servant girls who needed only a few drinks, a smile and a whispered declaration of love to give in... There was no real point. Besides, they tended to be dull also, Alyssa... She was a challenge, and strangely he actually could stand listening to her.

"I suppose we could go now... But arent you worried about being with a man who is a little tipsy?" he asked, he part regretted it, but assured himself that it would be worth it, it would show her that he was concerned for her "Also, it is a few hours away... If we went there now we really would have to camp there, don;t get me wrong that would be... breath taking, but..." he looked away "I'm sure someone like you must have a lot of trouble with men wanting to whisk you away, to places much better than this...". He hoped this built trust within her. At the very worst it might mean that she decided to go in daylight hours, with someone she knew as well, which Mjor was fine with. He worried for a moment if she would ask or let someone else at the bar now come, but he relaxed, she knew those fools less than him...

Alyssa refrained a laugh, Mjor was now telling her all the things she had previously been thinking. It was quite the coincidence really. His thoughtfulness was really sweet, but it also raised more doubts within herself. Did this mean he could not trust the lustful urges of himself, or was it just him being kind? He was teetering very closely to the line of a seductive nobleman, but she set that aside for mere gentlemanliness, which she believed could be found in the heart of any if you poked it. "Oh I'm not worried" she said assuringly placing her hand on his shoulder "I trust you" she said with an innocent smile while staring into his eyes. "And as you've said" there is nothing like camping under the stars. It would be a bit of an adventure" she said, while getting up, while fixing her cloak. She pulled back her bangs behind her ears, "Shall we go?" she asked.

Mjor came across instantly shy again, this time it was largely for real... He never had got used to people saying they trusted him. It made him feel odd. "Thankyou... Thankyou for trusting me... And not running" he said as he stood up, and placed some money on the counter. It did not look like enough to cover the drinks he and Alyssa had bought, but the barman nodded at him. Most of the drinks had been paid for by Mjor helping the man out over the day, he had not intended to buy more, but that old fool and this... Delectable young thing had changed that... Ah well, he still was on a good amount of his last few big jobs.

"Lets" he said, slowly heading to the door "See ya... Judeua, Gabriel" he bidded the two as he left the bar into the night air...

It was strange, for years he had kept this place secret, and now... It would all be over. It felt intrusive that someone else would be there, now he thought about it. It was his place! For him and grave of his dead uncle, and nobody else... But, he had invited her, and... Well, part of him still wanted her to know. But nobody else! That would be too much.

"It was a pleasure to meet you Gabriel" said Alyssa sweetly "Thank you for your hospitalities" she added to the barkeeper, while getting up and following Mjor out the door. She curtsied quickly to the crazy old man who drank like a fish. She thought it would be right to show some respect, for there must have been a reason everyone stared at him so blatantly. She stepped out into the fresh night air, drawing her cloak about herself, closer.
