Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

Naughty Vixen!

The newly arrived Kitsune party from Ayame had settled well they traded what little goods they had made, travelling from city to city, village to village, trading a modest living to buy the necessities they needed to make more than a tempory stay.
Aya had started to get restless in camp, her adventures with Tzel had lead to some unfortunate events, Genshu forcing her to stay within camp within the forests of Soto while he and the others that made her party rode out. Frustrated by her lack of progress, her true mission for being in Elenlond in the first place had left the Kitsune Vixen in a foul mood.

The captain and owner of the Great Red Seal had sensed this displeasement from his sovereign then again her constant scowl and usual snapping at those who dared to socialise with her was a warning sign within its self, approaching her at dusk, the round old Kitsune entered her tent with a pleasant smile and a deep and gracious bow.

”Ah! be it a good evenin’ to ye, yur highness” He looked up to her flashing what he thought a dashing smile but it was all fang to be anything close to dashing. Aya peered up at him with a disapproving look. Undeterred the old salt fox did not turn tail and run "Ah! I be thinkin' all this confinement aint doin' ye no good, the boys an me have been flappin our gums ‘bout it an on the morrow we shall all go fer a bit o' sport." He unconciously scratched the back of his head and looked at the floor as he spoke; clearly choosing his words carefully with her, it softened her mood.

When Aya reached Ayame the land was desolate with no life he and his Kitsune crew were the first to hear her calling and return home, he had been ever loyal since and she in return was forever grateful, with a flick of her wrist she dismissed him, before turning back to book. Stooping one more time with an aloof bow he stepped out the tent, feeling mightily pleased with himself. The old fox still had his way with the ladies it seemed.

The ‘morrow’ soon came Aya, who thought she was the first to rise was in fact the last, the party already saddled up and ready to go only waiting on her, Genshu was dressed in finest armor yet, his under tunic was high collared and white, despite the dawns light casting it a burnt orange colour, his Sade*** where the golden cast heads of dragons, hiding where his cloak clasped to his ornate outfit. His Kote*and Haidate** were blood red with gold guiding, both his armor and cloth under robe intertwined with belts that sat with red jewels that held the whole thing together, around his forehead a red sash tied around to keep his bangs out his face.

Aya for once felt a little underdressed next to him, dressed in a simple pale blue dress, that too had a high collar, Tight fitting around her torso, but rather fanned at her hips, it was gathered one side at the hip and held there with a golden pin in the shape of a phoenix; the dress was sleeveless, with only a translucent chiffon material to cast about her arms to keep off the chill. Not like it was going to be to a day for one to keep away the chill, she approached the Reynard’s to mount a horse that had been saddled for her, side saddled of course, that choice made without her displeased her more than being forced to kept in camp. She glanced at Genshu’s ornate outfit a little with envy, since the only thing elaborate thing about her was her hair, let down a free in wave, aside from one side of it was gather to a bun at the side of her head and tied with an unusual hair decoration, that too was gold and hung along her body, with a single blue jewel held in a half moon.

The captain, whose name was Kenta, was ready to lend his sea strong hands to help her mount; bracing his hands together he knelt ready to receive her slippered foot, she willing accepted his assistance and seated herself on the side saddle with a scowl meeting to anyone who had the courage to meet her eyes. A hunt, they said how could she hunt in a side saddle, they weren’t designed to let those who rode them to pick up any speed to lead the force and gain a kill or two, ironically her bow and quiver of arrows had been tied to the beast, just for good measure perhaps, not really intending her to use them.

The set off as the sun awoke from its sleepy bed from the horizon and began chasing away the morning mist, time past and the troop had not yet found a single beast that was worth of a chase, Genshu galloping through the thicket and back to their snail pace looking for something worth to call a chase on. The sun lay high in the heavens to keep up moral Kenta began speaking about times in his youth.

”Ah! Genshu can sure ride, when I be a young’r man, I could flush out a deer or two in a few hours. Oh how the lasses lov’d me, this tum of mine wasn’t always there, in my day there wasn’t a pretty vixen that wasn’t after my tails!”

Aya smiled to herself listening to the old fox’s stories before calling out to him in a playful tone ”Thank ‘the lady’ then Kenta for your old age, or I might find myself in such a wooed like state”

The old man snorted as the younger lads sniggered at Aya’s deliberate insult to his tales; to get back to her he continued to tell of pretty vixens of his day.
”ah, but you can ne'er be careful o' the pretty ones, lads; there was an old shipmate o' mine who had lured into the clutches of a local lass, was almost as stunning as our own Royal bloodline, she was, a slender, elegant thing she was, you know how it goes, when you be off at sea too long, the lad couldn’t control hi'self. The things he did to her! Because we have a lady listenin' I will hav' to fill you in on the details later, I will. But the point to me story is that several days later that mate o' mine died o' a nasty rash that spread in his blood”

Kenta took that moment to glance over his shoulder to Aya with a smirk whose lips had parted in a playful shocked state ”And what are you imply-“

Cut off with Genshu charging back at them standing up in his stirrups leaning forward to edge the beast to run faster, wind in his hair a vision in white.

”White deer[“

And with that the stories had ended and the chase began.

Bored of being kept in the back, Aya gave up trying to gain any speed by sitting sideways and stride the horse with much confidence, She was a good rider since her first riding lesson in the lands before the migration, it had almost came to her like second nature. She and Genshu lead the troop, She laughed and toyed with her guardian as he ate dust from her galloping wake.

The white stag was a magnificent creature, glistening white pelt, and antlers that sparkled when they caught the light and very light on its feet. Genshu struggled to keep up with her as she gained on it, briefly letting go of her reigns to place bow pull back the string and shoot, and A miss, Cursing slightly under her breath, as she pushed her horse further and faster.

”Akomachi!”

She did not turn her head to see what Genshu called out to her for, her heart to set on her target, it leaped into a clearing into a light filled plain and she too followed, her horse stumbling a little on river cobbles, that’s when the roar of the waterfall and this mist caught her off guard, her horse rearing in protest.
Patting the filly’s neck to calm her, she marveled at the water fall that lay before her in all its glorious power, the white stag in the corner of her eye leaping yet another bush and into the thick thicket beyond, she turned her horses head to follow, but she noticed something odd about how the filly was walking, an oddness she had felt before.

Dismounting she stroked the powerful black flanks of her horse, it gingerly lifting its back left leg from the ground, on inspecting closer she noticed that foot was without shoe, ‘Silly beast cast off her own shoes’ Now Genshu for certain would claim the kill for his own, sighing a little disappointed by her own lack of compassion on the beast, this had been the most adventure she had has in the last few days, couldn’t she be a little bit selfish just for once?

She could Summon Genshu and help her predicament, no, she was mad at him for her boredom in the first place, for once she would do this on her own instead of been nursed by them, she was no delicate wall flower. All she needed was a blacksmith..

((*Kote Japanese armor, forearm guards, **Haidate Japanese armor, that is tied to the hips and protects the thighs, Sade japanese armor, hmm shoulder pad things lol))

The suns rays slowly crept over the skyline, bathing the lush countryside in an orange glow. The sunbeams, like long fingers made of light caressed the land still moist with morning dew. One such finger of light found its way to a small village on the outskirts of Madrid. The light poured through an open window illuminating the face of the hovels sole occupant. Fendiin squeezed his eyes shut, trying to block out the morning’s first rays. He rolled over to face away from the window, he knew he had a busy day ahead of him, but he needed just a few more moments of rest. His body went slack and he began to drift off to sleep when his door flew open slamming against the wall.

“Time to get up, lazy bones!” came a chipper voice. “Much to do, much to do this morning! Fendiin!” The metallic bird landed on his master’s shoulder and leaned in. “Fendiin, Fendiin, Fendiin, Fendiin!” The bird spoke directly into Fendiins ear.

Fendiin sat up slowly and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. “Scraps do not start with me it is too early.”

The bird cocked his head from side to side. “Early? Oh yes, since I not require sleep I often forget that when you humans rise from slumber you are grumpy!” Scraps, an enchanted bird made from scrap metal and magic was bound to Fendiin. The blacksmith had created the creature in boredom, however after crafting a particularly fanciful want for a local magician the man cast a spell on the bird as a thank you. Unfortunately for Fendiin Scraps was loud, obnoxious, and hyper every minute of every hour everyday.

“I will prepare what you need for your rounds this morning!” Without waiting for a word from his master the bird flew out of room. Fendiin shook his head and arose from his bed. He slipped into his usual clothing, a dirty shirt that at one point had been white. After days of being worn as Fendiin worked it was now quite soiled a solid brown color the black spots from soot and coal dust. He wore loose slacks and old shoes, which were both a dull brown. Finally he slipped his blacksmiths apron on, it was solid black and made of thin leather.

Fendiin groggily made his way into the main room of the house, where scraps was flying around trying to gather everything Fendiin needed to go to the market.

“Scraps stop, I can gather everything I need myself, besides you are not coming with this morning.” Fendiin grabbed a small pouch wit a few pieces of copper in it and tucked it safely into one of his aprons pockets.

Scraps stopped in mid flight and whirled around to face Fendiin, the light than shined from his eyes turned from a pale yellow to red.

“Not going! What do you mean, of course I am going, and you know everyone in the market likes me, I get you deals don’t I?” The bird landed on Fendiins shoulder and clung tightly to him. Fendiin brushed him off his shoulder and continued to gather what he needed.

“You think they like you, but really all they are doing is mocking me. Now stay put, I will be home shortly then we can get working on those tools the carpenter ordered.”

Scraps protested but Fendiin simply ignored him and left the house. Scraps could not leave the house, Fendiin had given him a direct order and as much as scraps tried to defy him the bird was bound to be his loyal servant. As Fendiin walked down to the street the city was already bustling. Merchants were setting up shop and guards were patrolling to make sure there was no shady business.

Fendiin walked up to the butcher who greeted him with a hearty laugh and pat on the back.

“Here just after the break of dawn like clockwork!” The large butcher said in his usual jovial tone. “You’ve brought my new cleaver I see!” Fendiin slowly unhooked the cleaver from his belt and removed the hard leather and iron covering from the blade.

“Just be careful, I only just finished it last night, so the blade is as keen as any I have ever smithed. Fendiin carefully handed the cleaver over the portly butcher.

“Amazing work as usual, what do I owe you?” The aging butcher reached into his coin purse as he questioned about the payment. Fendiin smiled and with a wave of his hand and a shake of his head declined the payment.

“You know I would not take coin from you. The usual payment should do.”

“Are you sure boy? A side of beef should not cover work of this quality,”

“It is fine, were you to pay me a copper I would simply buy meat from you and then you would have it again right?” The butcher shook his head and handed Fendiin his payment that had been salted and wrapped for him. As Fendiin left the butchers wife came strolling up to him.

“Did ‘e bring your new cleaver?” She asked.

“That he did but we really need to start working out a better payment plan.”

His wife gave him a quizzical look. “Did he over charge you?” The question caused a large rumble of laughter from the butcher. He shook his head and held the cleaver by the tip of the handle and held the sharpened tip of the blade not more than an inch from his wooden table. He dropped it and the tip sunk near half an inch into the wood. His wife gasped as she stared at the blade, which was firmly stuck into the wooden table.

“No, he did not over charge me, if he had simply asked for what this should have cost I would have had to sell him my venders stall. That boy is a genius when it comes to smithing, but I do not think he will ever realize how good he really is.

Fendiin had made his rounds and delivered everything he had finished in the past week. He was on his way home when he saw them. A group of blacksmiths from Madrid had come to town recently, it was said they had worked on swords and tools for some of the most important nobles on all corners of the world, Fendiin had not introduced himself yet, he was too frightened to do so. These were the best of the best and he was but a small time smith, not worth their time and attention. He tried to slink past but one of them noticed his apron and called out to him.

“You there! Are you this backwater village’s local smith? Come over here for a moment!” Fendiin froze in place. Were they really speaking to him? He turned and walked towards them, his eyes resting firmly on the ground.

“Yes, I am sir.” The grouped laughed at him and how nervous he was. One stepped forward and produced a sword from an ornate scabbard. The blade was long and thin, decorated with jewels and a golden hand guard. He moved the sword into Fendiins field of vision.

“Now this, boy is fine craftsmanship! Your lucky I am showing this to you, since you will never make anything even close to this spectacular, the balance is perfect and the metal working flawless!” The men all nodded and smiled as he mocked the obviously nervous man. Fendiin was in his late thirties but he still acted like a boy, his social skills were that of a ten-year-old boy, which is why most of the villagers had taken to calling him “boy” even though he was middle aged.

Fendiin cleared his throat. “Well, actually sir, it looks a little heavy on the hilt side, and there is a flaw in the metal about halfway up the blade…” The men all stopped laughing instantly.

“What did you say, peasant?” The man holding the sword said. Fendiin met his glare and pulled a small ball peen hammer that he had kept on his belt.

“Well you see here, there is a flaw, watch.” Fendiin used the hammer and lightly tapped the spot he had been talking about. The blade vibrated slightly and then a hairline crack formed across the metal. “See, there is the flaw.” Fendiin smiled, thinking he had shown the man something he would take to heart and attempt to fix next time, but their reaction was not what he expected.

The next thing he felt was one of the men’s fists striking him squarely on the jaw. Fendiin stumbled back and fall to the dirt covered ground. The men, with rage in their eyes began to surround him. Fendiin closed his eyes and prepared for a beating, but all he heard was a screech and then the sound of a hard object striking on of the men and sending him to the ground. Fendiin looked up to see Scraps dodging the means swords. Fendiin scrambled to his feet and grabbed the bird from mid flight and began to run.

“I thought I said to stay at home!” Fendiin yelled as he ran.

“I sensed danger, and I was not about to let those good-for-nothings beat on you without a proper fight!” Scraps squawked in his ear. The men were hot on Fendiin’s heels when he left the village and entered the near by forest.

An hour or so later Fendiin was completely lost in the woods, the men had given up chase but he had no idea where he was. He made his way through the dense forest, Scraps at his side offering directions which Fendiin had ignored, the bird had never left the city so he could have no useful advice.

“Ok, we have wandered enough. Scraps, fly above the canopy and see if you can get high enough to see the village.” The bird followed his order without question. As Fendiin watched his soar above the trees he looked up and waited. The trees obscured his view, so he began to back peddle to try and see where Scraps was going, unfortunately for him he did not notice the drop off leading into a river until he had stumbled and fallen head first into the roaring river.

Fendiin struggled against the current, but to no avail. The water pulled him under. His last thoughts were that he was going to drown before he was thrown violently over the edge of a large waterfall. Fendiin landed harshly at the bottom of the falls. The water was deep enough that he did not hit any rocks at the bottom, but the force of the landing on the waters surface rendered him unconscious.

Walking among the lovely flowering bushes of Amaranth falls, she picked a few flowers while trying to think of what she could do. Option 1. Summon Genshu to her and have him take her home, because aside from her horse being shoes less so she could not ride the filly, she was also lost and not too sure where her camp was located. Option 2. Wonder around in the dense thicket with horse in tow until she comes across a village, once again not a good choice, since she knew not of what local villages but also the people here feared the camp of the Kitsune from the land to the east.

Sighing once more she looked up to the falls, maybe if she went up there she could get a better scope of land, maybe her Barings and she could teleport herself to camp with the beast. Aya frowned, despite her eyes sight being keener than most humans, her hearing sense of smell too, she felt her eyes were playing tricks on her as a black form came from the top of them and appeared more man shaped as they hit the bottom of the falls. She gasped, realising as the form disappeared within the mist; that shape was actually a man.

Aya waded waist deep into the water, the river calmed here before snaking out at this location, however that drop was unfortunate for anyone to take, Unthinking of her expensive clothing , silver orbs scanned for his body. Mother, Empress, Kitsune, were just some of the titles she went by, sometimes taking away from her true title, Healer, She could not but help those that needed her help, be it a physical pain or a emotional one, If there was hurt she must heal it, even if her help was unwanted.

She finally spotted his limp body as it raised to the surface of the calmed river, her left hand shot out to him, tracing his body’s movements with her finger tips, before raising her hand higher, his body lifted from the water, she gestured him towards her and his body came towards her, she walked back to the bank, sitting down so her feet were tucked beneath her, she lowered his head to her lap, after her illusions a pillow so his wet hair did not get a double chill from her own wet dress.

Thank the lady he was still breathing, left hand once again hovering just centimetres over his body, her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she searched using her extra perceptions, starting at his head, she sensed a sadness within his closed mind and a minor concussion , she followed southwards down to his chest, he was in good health, a good heart but not a confident one, a few broken bones however no internal bleeding, She scanned his arms left before right, one was stronger than the to the other, he only had a sprained wrist... Scrapes and bumps, a man with alot luck on his side she had decided.

Cool finger tips either side of his temples, she began the healing process, the light blue glow starting from where her fingers met his flesh, that spread across his body, like a warm wave to his limbs ,toes and fingers, Bones were rejoined, fractures filled, cuts closed with no trace that they were ever there. Broken capillaries mended so no bruise would surface. She broke her touch from him and the glow quickly faded, the eldest ability of Aya, at his had been used so many times, and there was nothing left but to wait.

The last thing he remembered before total darkness was falling. Fendiin had passed out before he had even hit the water at the foot of the falls, and he was sure the next thing he was going to see was the afterlife.

As his eyes slowly opened his vision was blurry and his body ached, but there were no serious pains. The woman leaning over him looked a bit like he had imagined an angel to look. Though the sounds of the water fall and the fact that he was soaking wet made him think other wise.

Before he could say anything he leaned over and began to expel the water he had swallowed, and unfortunately for his lovely savior her dress was not spared during the expulsion. Fendiins stomach tighened as the water flowed from his lungs and stomach. He wanted to say he was sorry, but all of his strength seemed to have been sapped.

A loud sound from above broke the awkward silence. Scraps came raging from the sky, fire burning in his eyes.

"Master!" He shouted as he came as a cannon ball to where the two sat. The loyal bird not sure what had happened sprung into action, lunging at the beautiful savior.

"Scraps, no!" Fendiin willed himself to shout as he raised a hand to calm his over zealous companion. The bird came to an abrupt halt in mid air, the mystic glow that came from him fading from a crimson read to a pale blue.

"Fendiin!" he shouted in his usually squwak, "Are you ok, i came back down to tell you I saw the town in the distance, but you were gone! I feared the worst." The bird flew down to him to begin his inspection. "How did you get down here, who is this.." His words came to a halt as he spied the lovely Kitsune.

"Oh.." He said as he puffed himself up, "Well hello there." The metal bird now spoke is a deeper, more heroic voice. "Enchanté my lovely, and who might you be?" Scraps circled around her with the speed of a humming bird a few times before taking her hand and pecking a kiss on it.

"Scraps, stop it." Fendiin said between deep breaths. "Sorry about...the dress. I am Fendiin this is Scraps, what happened, I can barely remember anything passed falling into the river."

He violently up heaved the water laden contents of his stomach, she didn’t mind that along with water, mud and dust she had bile to go with the pale blue of her outfit, she had been covered in allot worse. When it had been clear that he was finished regurgitating the water from his system she made him lay back down with a gentle touch on his shoulder.

And then a cry, Aya turned her head to see the molten coloured bird swoop down for her, unflinching, unblinking, her undetectable shield went up instantly, however the man spoke and the bird stopped mid flight its attack on her, not like a silly trinket like that would of done anything but bounce of her telekinetic guard. The bird was of a mechanical nature but it breathed and talked and was obviously bound to the man she had just saved. Her magic faded into nothingness, as the bird flew around her in such a speed that made, made her nervous she was quite ready to bat the bird with the back of her hand, before it took hold of it and kissed it.

”Oh... how endearing.”

She said with a melodic laugh at the mechanical toy, she wondered who made such a thing so she could get Ceres’ one; the lady only knew what evil things that kit would do with such a bird. Perhaps one that was so flirtatious, never before had she been kissed by something purely made of metal; metal and flesh yes.
She turned her attention back to the man she had saved and who had been sick on her, he was breathing hard, she gave a look of concern, perhaps her spell missed something?

Resting a cool hand on his already cold chest, she tilted a head to the side and looked at his blue eyes, quite taken back with them; they were something she had to look at twice as if her eyes had mistaken something.

”Pleasure to meet you both, my name is Aya, are you alright Fendiin? You fell from the top of the waterfall, Heavens only knows how you missed the rocks at the bottom, a blessed man you are indeed. If my horse hadn’t lost her shoe I would not have been here to fish you out.”

She smiled softly, moon coloured orbs sparkled a little as she did so, unknown to the two strangers that literally, fell on top of her, that she was slowly leaking her own energy, into the fallen man, replenishing his own strength.

Fendiin slowly stood to his feet, after a fall like that he should have been seriously wounded or killed, but now he actually felt quite good. Scraps came over and landed on his shoulder softy. The bird leaned in and in as hushed of a tone as he could muster said, "jackpot."

Fendiin rolled his eyes at him and shoed him away, after the day he had been through he hardly wanted to deal the with mechanical birds quips. He stretched his body, the only damage seemed to be his clothing, which was a bit ripped in places and still of course soaking wet. Fendiin looked around for a moment, trying to get any sense of his bearings, but as he thought they were still in the middle of nowhere.

All of a sudden the womans words sunk in.

He whipped around to face her with a bright smile on his face. "Did you say horse shoes!" Well if those are not the simplest things to make!" Before letting her have any kind of response he began looking around and darted off into the forest. His blue eyes scanned around, and quickly settled upon a fallen pine tree, which needles had turned brown.

"Perfect!" he exclaimed as he began to gather the necessary ingredients. At the mention of something he could make he had almost entirely forgot the woman was even standing there. Fendiin reached down to his smiths belt and flicked open one of the larger pouches which held a few bars of iron. He shook his head in dismay.

"No, that will not do." His face contorted into a thoughtful grimace. Scraps flew over, landing on his shoulder and stirking the same thoughtful pose. At once both of him seemed to come out of the trance and run over to an empty spot near the water. The two began digging through the soft soil, apparently looking for something of great importance.

Fendiin stopped for a moment and looked up at Aya. "Well come on then! You need that shoe help me look!" He did not know who he was talking to at this point, and that was Fendiins true personality. He never knew the right thing to say to anyone, he was truely a child at heart. He treated everyone the same way, whether they were royalty or a beggar on the streets.

She watched him with a perplexed look on her face, he just got up and started bounding around, she tried to get him to lay down again, but it seemed his determination had made him somewhat deaf to her plea’s, giving up she just watched him gather materials, for what seemed to make her a horse shoe.

All the way out here by a waterfall, she didn’t care if he was the best blacksmith out here, given she was stranded away from any village made that very clear he was the best... but It wasn’t possible.
She had gathered that he was a blacksmith earlier as she had fished him out; he was dressed like a blacksmith should have been, the smell of coal, metal and a hard days labour hung about him and it wasn’t mistakable.

She found Scraps most amusing, the bird seemed to mimic his actions, Children did the same thing, if they stood the same and pulled the same expressions then the same thought would appear into his head, she smiled at the two who seemed quite carefree and light at heart, free of duty.

The he strode off to the river and she followed, keeping at a distance as she observed him, he began to dig the soil with his hands and called back to her to help, but how could she help? She had no shovel to dig, for a moment she just stared pondering on how on earth her expect her to dig with no shovel or spade before it hit her.

”Oh my dear boy... I do not dig with my paws, let alone dig with my hands!”

She laughed quite hard at the idea, her hand resting on her chest as she did so; indeed she did not mind getting her hands dirty when it came to wounds, the sick and children, but to ask her to do manual labour? Her hands were soft from not using them abusively, her skin pale from not being in the sun toiling the fields, and her arms not muscular from not lifting the heavy things. This man surely knew she was a lady of luxury from just looking at her?

She felt quite bad not being able to assist in his quest for whatever he searched in the dirt, all she could really gather was that he was digging a hole; she could assist in that, just not physically dig.

With both her wrists touching, she caressed her hands together before cupping them, crafting a tiny ball of glowing light no bigger than a glass marble, the ball nestled in the flesh of her hand, she stretched out her arm, lining up her shot of the soft soil a foot in front of Fendiin. Her other hand drew and square in the air as she crafted a shield to protect Fendiin and his dear pet, from the initial power of the blast and the boom that would come from it. The ball shot from her hand, as quick as a flash of lightning, once it reached her target, it glowed in its brilliance before exploding, casting the soil to the heavens to rain on Fendiin and his pet Scraps, Aya smiled, that was certainly a better way to make a hole in the ground.

Fendiin sat there for a moment as the dirt rained down on him. He stared at the hole he had been digging a moment ago, which was now a gapping ditch. He looked back at the mysterious woman for a moment. She did not look like most magic users he had met before. In his small town most of them were grizzled old men who spent their lives with their noses in books. He had never met an actual magical adept before, one who naturally had the power and was free from the hours of memorizing and study it took most to cast a simple spell.

Dismissing the thoughts Fendiin turned back to the work at hand. He reached down and began to pul out small fragments of rock. He eyed each of them carefully, scrutinizing every small detail and flaw. After a moment he had gathered a good amount of the stones from the side of the river bed.

Fendiin rose and jogged back over to the pine tree and began to gather some dead wood, pine cones, and needles. Once his arms were full he trotted over to Aya and dropped everything at her feet and smiled.

"There we are everything we need to make you some new horse shoes. This should not take to long." Fendiin plopped down on the forest floor and began to stack the wood to make a fire. When the pile was the his liking he snapped his fingers and scraps flew down.

"One fire coming up!" The bird squaked. Scraps' chest began to puff for a moment before he opened his beak and unleashed a small torrent of flame which caught the wood in flame. Fendiin closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. He appeared to be in a meditative state for a moment before he leaned forward and a gust of wind came forth from his lungs that seemed inhuman. The small spark of flame was not blown out but instead stoked to unimaginable heat in an instant. The wood all but crumbled under the intense heat. His breath turned the simple wood and cones into smoldering red hot coals in an instant.

"Ok now I just need to let the materials heat up so i can shape them." He said absently more to himself than to Aya. This day was not turning out so bad, he thought. Fendiin easily lost focus, and he had forgot completely about the men who had been chasing him. The men he assumed had turned back and forgotten about it as easily as he had. Unfortunately for Fendiin the men were not going to forgive his actions so easily. They had indeed turned back to the town, but that was only to gather more men to make the hunt for the lowly blacksmith all the more easy.

Her power came naturally to her now; it had been a few hundred years since her first magic lesson in the temple of life. She was a little concerned on how Fendiin would react to her, so far all she had been greeted with was suspicion, hostility and fear, however this young blacksmith in front of her did not seem to flutter and eyelash at the small display of her strength.

As he Set about his work gathering, and examining objects he collect, she honestly did not try to warp her mind around what he was doing and why, she always assumed that all metal was equal and it was the crafter who could turn the most pathetic piece of scrap into a glimmering blade.

She briefly turned her back on him to fetch her horse who, was quite calmly finding river plants between the cobbles to graze upon, reaching for the reigns she lead the beast back to the clearing where Fendiin seemed to have most of his activity. Patting the filly’s neck, a pile of woodland ‘rubbish’ was offered at her feet, even she had to admit that, if he had the materials to make her a shoe there was no possible way he could get that pile of pine cones and needles hot enough to smelt.

As if he had read her sceptical thoughts, his mechanical companion sparked the flames and something that Aya couldn’t quite comprehend with a human, Fendiin’s amazing ability to blow on the kindling and spark flame and drawn amazing heat. Taking a few steps back as the pile radiated warmth, ready to receive the pebbles of metal.

”Well that is one way to get a fire started!” she said with a laugh as she Watched this amazingly skilled blacksmith at work, out in the wilderness of the woods.

It would not be long now till her, reunited back with her troop, however her appearance was less than desirable, her clothing was damp and mud and bile ridden. She swept her hand over her shoulder along her breasts downwards towards her hip, as her magic willed her illusions to change and reform into solid mass once again. Her outfit did not change; it was the same pale blue dress however it was just dry and clean.

Watching the smoke rise above the trees Aya could not but wonder if her party was out looking for her...

Fendiin's hammer came down for the last time on the red hot metal creating a metallic ring which echoed through the forest. Using a pair of tongs he always kept on his belt he picked it up and plunged it into the frigid river water. The white hot piece of metal hissed and caused the clear water to bubble before slowly calming. Fendiin wiped the sweat from his brow and smiled down at his work. Only minutes had passed since he started, but he now had a perfectly formed horse shoe.

Fendiin shot to his feet triumphantly, holding the horse shoe over his head. Before Fendiin could make his way towards Aya an arrow zipped out from the brush around them. The arrow struck his pair of tongs causing him to drop the horse shoe, which landed promptly on his head. Fendiin stumbled about for a second and then fell to the ground. Scraps quickly bolted to his side to make sure his master was ok.

Fendiin shook his head and looked up, the world around him was spinning and blurry. Gruff, dangerous looking men began coming from the forest. Fendiin forced himself to his feet, struggling the whole way. Fendiins gaze eventually fixed itself upon one man over any others.

The man was finely dressed, he stood out over all the others do to his dress, and familiarity. It was the man whose sword he had broken and had chased him from the city. Fendiin had all but forgotten about him in the recent events with Aya.

"Well, well..look what we have here. The no name, poor, dirty blacksmith that thought he could just break something of mine and get away with it. You know that the sword you broke was worth more than your life?" The noble looking man asked as he slowly walked towards Fendiin.

Scraps flew right up to the mans face and squaked loudly. "We are busy and do not need to deal with you!" The mans hand shot up and slapped the mechanical bird aside. Scraps spiraled through the air and collided into a tree. Scraps flailed around, his beak now stuck in the tree.

Fendiin took an angry step forward, but stopped when the men with the noble raised their bows, already nocked with arrows.

"Now, sir, we will take the cost of that blade out of your hide."

Fendiin raised her new horseshoe above his head victoriously, pressing her hands together she laughed melodically, it was short lived. Beneath waves of black hair her pearled coloured fox ears twitched at the sound of something gliding through the air, something with a point turning her head; Smile fading and laughter dying down, Aya had spotted the arrow way before Fendiin did, hence his shock and unpreparedness for the falling of the horse shoe on his head.

She went to step forward to assist him yet the threatening arrow had upset her mere as it riled and attempted to scarper, causing Aya to turn her attention away from the young blacksmith, to her horse to calm her before she ran causing herself lame and Aya truly stranded.

Tying the beast to a tree with her rains Aya, held the opaque material to closer to herself, it seemed that no one seemed to care that she was there, Her head nodded in agreement with the thought that it was best that she did not involve herself right away, after all if this man that she had met had done something truly terrible, that caused such a hunt for him, then indeed he must be punished appropriately.

Watching the banter from the overly dressed man, her face was shadowed with a frown as he had knocked Scraps with a backhand into a tree that the companion had now found himself impaled upon, not like the goby bird did not deserve it, if she had not been annoyed but the foolishness the man regurgitated for her to listen to, she was certain that she would of laughed at his flailing.

Who was this man to demand blood, no a life, for something broken? No material wealth was worth a life. Since Scraps was impaled on a tree near here, she kindly took the metal bird carefully in her hands and juggled him free, holding him tighter as he tried to get back at the over dressed peacock who had hit him.

”Keep still and silent now... everything will be alright”

She tapped him playfully on beak and gave him a reassuring smile, before walking in between Fendiin and a death by arrows to needle his body a 1000 times. She looked around the clearing, they were surrounded by about 20 men, she smiled, her lips scarlet lips parting far enough for her animal fangs to be visible, setting her marks on the wealthiest man who demanded Fendiin life, she lifted her head at him.

”The price you ask is far too much, Sir... not to mention that this man too owes me a debt, if his life you take, I will never be repaid.”

She released Scraps so her hands where free for casting, however the only gesture she did create was to take her index finger and brush it across her face as she move hair from her face and her well hidden ears, the mark of her race and a threat, she knew that her small party were known in Soto and feared, Looking as if she was thinking as soon as she tucked hair behind her fox ear, her silver eyes snapped back at him with a wild twinkle about them.

”I do not appreciate those that take their wealth as their station of respect and do not offer others the same courteous, now Sir, I think it wise that you either ask for something simpler, worthy of this pathetic crime that you have hunted this man down for, or leave... As sticking with your current plan could cause you to lose more face, do you not agree?”

Her tone was pleasant as she spoke to him, however with the simpleness of her speech; she secretly mocked him and his foolishness, if he chose to challenge the Sovereign of Ayame and former light goddess.

Meanwhile back at camp, the hunting party were saddled and armoured up, Genshu looked out into the thicket, his skin buzzing with excitement, he knew that blood was in the air and soon to be magic, Aya’s magic had a taste of sweet grape, the air was thick of it, he could taste it on the tip of his tongue.
Raising on the hind legs of his beast, and Naginata in hand the troop galloped off as fast as the horses could carry them, trouble was on foot and they knew it.
