Alvar made no effort to be stealthy. Twigs cracked, and he freely shot any animal he saw. Some looked of interest to him, or at least they usually would. But today, today was different. Today he was after much bigger prey. He had heard rumours of it, twisted screams for a child as he tortured them. A man who tried to sell him information of a bigger, better test subject to save his own pathetic life. Could they not see what he could achieve? They should be proud to sacrifice themselves to the cause, in years to come they will be looked upon as heroes, martyrs to the cause of greatness! Calmly, he loaded another set of bolts into his repeater, and with a small whir he knew it was ready. His eyes, which had adjusted to the dark long ago, glanced around. No sign of it still. He reached down, and picked up the carcass of a wild hare, and looked into its eyes. He didn't like them, and squeezed on its neck until they popped. With a smile he threw it aside. This was far from his usual hunting grounds, that was true. But the promise of such a magnificient specimen! He could hardly control himself... Oh, what he could do with something like what they described! He could prise of the carapace, and see how that worked, and if it was good... He could see how it bonded with people! Mandables! How they could be useful, claws as big as his arm, beautiful! Of course, all of his work, to him, was beautiful, like a father always saw its offspring as beautiful... But this. This would be something even better. He literally salivated at the thought. In fact, he was so happy about finding this creature, he began to hum a little tune. It was one he used to sing to children, when thousands of years ago, they crowded round him to see what his latest marvelous invention was. Now he used it to help him concentrate when he was cracking open a sternum to remove the brain. But all the time he hummed, his eyes never stopped glancing around, and his crossbow pointed at every movement. With a thud, a deer fell to the dirt. Alvar smiled. |

The predator had been lingering in Soto's forests for weeks now. Whisperings of the great best had been permitted to travel and some had began to seek it out. The hunter had a reason for this. It needed stronger hunters to learn for, more challenges to improve it's skill; but also needed to stay and protect it's home. So it had found a way to lure hunters to it. So far, nothing it had seen in the woods had been a challenge for it. Everything that did not belong in Soto, had been consumed with little difficulty. Because Ja'buul remained in the forest, and had yet to encounter an opponent it could not kill, it had had no reason to adapt it's skills or methods. It's body was not fully able to manifest changes for different environs; but with every kill more knowledge of what it was capable of, came to mind. On this night, he had discovered yet another intruder in the forest. They were observant, and patient; but not observant enough, and Ja'buul was no hasty creature either. The hunter lurked on the ground his attention ever shifting, his gaze darting from one point to the next. The way his head moved let the compound eyes of the hunter know this. It had taken a hare... what an interesting means of attack, those projectiles seemed to move much faster than the usual. Ja'buul took mental note of this as he watched his mark near his ready place. The hunter let fly more arrows into a deer. Now was it's time to strike. He was not in the large and glorious body of a hunter, no it appeared to be a small child dressed in rags. It's shaggy hair obscuing it's compound eyes. However it was readily apparent that this creature was more than it appeared to be, for it was suspended from a branch, just waiting for the unsuspecting. As the deer thudded to the ground, that noise covered any sound that might be made by the hunter releasing the branch. He fell through the air, not coliding with any leaf or branch, making no noise as it plummeted towards it's target. The only sign would be almost impossible to notice in the night, a slightly darkening shadow over it's prey. The humming hunter would be one of the luckiest creatures alive to evade this initial attack. Edited by Vene, Aug 17 2009, 02:56 PM.

Alvar smiled wickedly as the deer fell to the floor, and bared his teeth, leaping for it, desiring to feast on its warm, coppery flesh whilst it was still just alive. His perverted, experimental hunger probably saved his life, as just after he dived, his teeth inches from the barely living creatures neck, so close he could smell it, he could taste it... His grand experiment, another result would soon be gained, eating from creatures whilst they still lived... He heard it land behind him, and immediatly he turned his mind to this newcomer, this new test. He bit down, and then, in a move, he span, ripping a great chunk of flesh from the deer, which splattered blood over his face, neck, legs and chest as he severed an artery. He pointed his crossbow at the newcomer. Thirteen shots still loaded. "Hello there, beautiful" he grinned, the blood stained peace of flesh falling from his dark and chipped teeth, some of which were obviously metal, and crudely and cruelly shaped. He paused for but a moment, some last vestige of sanity within him objected to doing this to, what seemed to him, to be a child. Of course, his work was greater... Such a strange, and violent child would be a valuable tool... He nearly shuddered in anticipation, the thought of cracking open its ribs, pulling out the soft organs within, and feasting in front of its still blinking eyes... It sounded like he imagined love should. Beautiful, poetic, bold, sexual and... And real. "I think I'll take you home" he said, his smile growing, and looking much like the smile of someone who was not held back by the petty disturbances of reality. Like a man in love, not the idle love that children spoke of, nor the fake love people settled for, exchanging petty lies to each other about happiness. No, his smile showed the only love the madman considered true. The love he felt for those unlucky few who he took an interest in. All this took less than a second, and after that, his finger squeezed the trigger, and a single bolt flew, straight and true, and from this close range its target would beable to see the ever so slight purple glow that the repeater gave to its projectiles. "Goodnight, beautiful" whispered Alvar. |

Ja'buul's target began to move. In this form, it was unable to re-direct its falling path towards the target with ease so instead it prepared ti self to land on lams and feet. As soon as it did it sprang forwards, redirecting the energy to a leap where it landed at a point farther off to the side. It skidded across the leaves and the target looked up. From it's position, Ja'buul's compound eyes were visible and glittering. However, the words of the other creature had little effect of meaning to the beast who killed for knowledge as well as the sake of killing. Instead, it raised itself slightly and opened wide, its mouth. As the arm raised, the weapon fired at the same time as Ja'buul. A spray of webbing striking and blunting the arrow, as well as weighing it down and causing it to fall off ourse. It missed him terribly. Ja'buul did not pause in it's webbing attack, focusing it on the weapon in hopes of hindering or ceaseing it's functionality. Then, as soon as Ja'buul ahd come, it was on the move again. It leaped into bushes, near a clump of trees. The branches of this cluster easily mingling with all the other trees around them so they could be ramps to the causeway that was the canopy. When the bushes stopped swaying, all was still and silent again. Ja'buul was a prey would not be so easily taken down. It was not meant to be prey, it was the predator. |

The thing shot down his first bolt with some kind of webbing. That was suprising, but handy knowledge. Alvar salivated at the thought of slicing its neck open to examine the mechanisms within which allowed it to do that. It sounded positivly delightful. However, the thing did not let up in its attack, so neither did the scientist, and a steady thud thud thud filled the air as his repeater tracked the thing around the forest, pinning the webbing down. The thing got to a hiding place just as Alvar needed to change the cartridge, he did so quickly, the old one being thrown aside, for now, although later he would be sure to pick it up so he could refill it and use it again. Another one slammed in, and with a whir, he was ready once more. That took a second, and the blasted thing was still in its hiding spot... What was it? Alvar had been this way a couple of times before, and had seen nothing like it... He considered the possibility it and his prey may be the same thing... It was possible... He licked his lips "I'm going to get you, my beauty... And when I do, I shall show you a life of wonder" he half whispered, half shouted and half sung. It was obvious he believed in what he said, he honestly thought the... Thing... Would be better of in his so called lab. However, first he had to catch it. With that in mind a blade sprung from his arm, although the one in the back of his shoulder remained hidden, ready for some sort of suprise attack. He took his repeater in his other hand, and began to close the creature down, his eyes scanning every possible route out of its hiding place, both along the ground and in the canopy... He had already seen it liked to play up there... Barbaric creature, he thought to himself as he wiped the deer's blood from his chin. |

Ja'buul was on the hunt, but this creature had a second agenda. It was not just a predator, it was a student of the life around it. Always seeking a new tactic, a new development, a new trait that could be a better edge in battle. It was hidden, from it's target, observing as he tried to find from which direction Ja'buul would come next. Ja'buul lurked patiently and still for a long moment. He was waiting for the perfect moment, as always. The words of the other meant little to the creature born from raging spirits; but some of what it was saying was slowly being processed, though still disregarded as irrelevant babble for the moment. The focus of the humanoid hunter was on the trees and the canopy. It was clear he had little idea what manner of creature he was dealing with. The dangerous and little known Trap-Door spider was one of the thousands of arthropods that went into the design of Ja'buul's material form. In the bushes, it had dove, and they had rustled to indicate he might climb back to where he had the advantage of the canopy. However, in truth the creature had dove into the hole, already existing within these bushes. This was HIS forest, Ja'buul's prey was going to have his eyes opened to the dangers of fighting a predator on it's hunting grounds. Alvar's legs were easily in view thanks to its heat detecting sight. He was behind his enemy once more able to see beyond the branch and leaf created cover of the other end of this trap. On the surface, particularly in the dark, it blended in with the ground around perfectly. The possibility that the other would be aware of it was nigh impossible. Ja'buul waited a second longer and then it burst from the hole firing web from his mouth at the back of the arm bearing the projectile weapon while his smaller, boyish, arms attempted to grab the ankles of the target, which were well within it's reach. Though its body seemed to be that of a twelve year old boy, it would be able to grab and pull with the strength of a full grown man. Ja'buul was attempting to catch the other by surprise and pull him off his feet and into the hole it had created where he would be more bound by webbing, then analyzed and devoured. |

The creature was an interesting one, that was for sure... Its movements were quick, natural and yet unnatural... The web was a powerful tool, and its appearance... That was strange as well. It reminded him of something, and some spark of long forgotten memory lit up within the mind of the once great scientist, a couple of faces... They were smiling... At him? Why would they do that? His work... They must have been helping with his work, he rationalised. If they truly knew what he was doing all would sacrifice themself on the altar of his great scheme! It did not register with him that he no longer no what his final aim was, he was just following goals he set a long time ago, and if he remembered the rules he made then he would know he had broke everyone. But he didn't, as the mind that helped, healed and improved had died. "You cannot stop progress" he muttered just as he saw the web shoot at him. It was too late to react. The web envoloped the weapon and his fleshy right arm, and just as Alvar spun on the spot to use his left arm to cut it free, he felt a grab at his ankles. He was pulled down to the floor, but resisted being moved any further by shooting his final blade out of his shoulder, anchoring him in the ground. He then tried to land a couple of kicks with his heavy artificial feet, whilst it still held him, although he did not think it was likely they would land, he could at least hope it would keep the creature in place whilst he prepared his magic. As he fell he had noticed the thing had emerged from a hole. It was here he aimed his magic, preparing to the entrance to the hole into a pit of dark fire. Even if the thing noticed the faint discolouring of the air that annouced his attempt to Obliterate that small area, there was little it could do, if it retreated through the hole, it would be badly burnt, if it came straight out it would get his boot to its face, or if it dived high his left arm was ready, blade out. He felt bad that such a perfect creature should have to die, but he had learnt... These things prepared their homes well, he would find another, he was sure, and the next one would have the honour of assisting his science. "Sorry, my darling" he whispred as the entrance of the hole burst into dark flame. Edited by Alvar, Aug 31 2009, 03:21 PM.

The feeble attempt to strike the "god of destruction" were disregarded and poorly executed. Blindly flailing at a predator in the night was never a wise nor skillful idea. The prey failed to land any blows nor were the legs released. Ja'buul, in the darkness, did not fail to notice how he had gripped himself in place, nor the fact that this thing was heavier than it seemed. Metal and other unnatural things could be sensed in this target and Ja'buul was aware, now, that this was not as simple as it appeared. The words the creature spoke, were confirmation of the sense of danger that it felt. Without hesitation Ja'buul pointed it's head up and back firing webbing up to the trees to launch itself away from the grounded prey, whos projectile weapon was marred by his constrictive webbing, and safely into the canopy again. However, as Ja'buul lifted into the air with apparent ease, there was a sharp and short shriek which rang through the forest as it seemed to just barely miss being burned. Once more it would be lost in the canopy; but this time a strong and foul smell would linger in the air that seemed hard to place until the cause of this stench would fall from the trees down toward the one who had unknowingly caused it. If he would look up in time, it would look, for a moment, like he was being pounced on by the creature, from above once more. However it would be a bit slower this time and once avoided, or if hit, it would immediately be apparent what was different this time. This was no three dimensional being, the cause of the stench, as well as what came from above would be one and the same. A discarded flesh in the shape of the humanoid creature the hunter had been fighting. As if something had stretched it, and then sucked out it's innards after its legs had been slightly scorched by the flames. In truth, Ja'buul had shed the flesh of it's human guise to be more of a threat to it's foe. The faint burns on the legs of it's flesh suit were the cause of the smell as well as the final fact that had allowed it to make this decision. Now, it was hidden in the trees, lurking and waiting to strike. The falling flesh, and thus spreading of the foul smell it made while burning, were diversions to allow it to move to another advantageous position. When it would next emerge, the humanoid hunter would realize he was dealing with something far greater than he had imagined. |

It moved to early. The merest half a second too early. Alvar growled as the thing launched itself back up and away, trying to catch its face with his heel, but failing. He wasted no time getting back to his feet, and noticed the smell. It was foul, like the smell in some of the deeper rooms of his labs, some kind of charred flesh... But not human flesh. He looked up just in time to see the thing diving down at him, causing him to raise his bladed left arm and drop to one knee. The poor, pretty little thing landed on his blade, slicing itself in two. But... There was no weight, no resistance. Strange. He looked at it and saw nought but skin. Interesting... Very interesting... This was definatly what he had been searching for. He would gather the shedded skin later, it was sure to have great research value, and might contain vital clues as to how other parts of this creature worked. Of course, that now meant it was lost in the trees, and he knew not what to look for. Mindfully he rolled across to his crossbow, his blade slicing the web cleanly, and freeing it. Its aesthetic appeal was ruined for now, of course... But despite working purely with the beauty of evoloution and advancement, Alvar knew that there would be rare occasions when things did not look perfect. He considered summoning some of his experiments to him, he had three in mind, three perfect, breathtaking beings... But no. He did not need them yet. Soon, soon they would come, just when it was where he wanted it... Just when it thought it had him, and would desist its childish games. Like all people though, Alvar knew what to do. Trap it. Torture it, hurt it. Make it surrender everything. Make it a martyr for the cause! It should be anyone's greatest joy to submit to the tests of science! It was every living things duty to make the world better! And by being one of his subjects, the world could be bettered like nobody would believe. But back to the task at hand. He had the crossbow ready again, but conserved his shots. His blades, both of them, stayed out and ready. He knew how this thing worked, it had hidden paths, hidden tunnels. He could see the cogs turning, it was understandable. Like all creatures, its mind was so much more... Base than his. He scanned everywhere, absent mindedly cleaning off his crossbow as he did so, the web remaining would slow its rate of fire... And he could not have that. But he was ready. High, low... He was watching. |

The hunter watched above, below, to the left, and to his sides. He was warry and prepared for a threat to approach. His skills may be sharpened but skill could only compensate so much for what nature had failed to provide. He may have given himself weapons, but he still did not have eyes in back. The mighty predator once again attacked from behind. This time, with his massive scythe blade limbs. One blade wung low in an attempt to knock the enemy off their feet again, This time, however, the upper blade swung from the opposite direction in such a way that if the hunter were to jump to try to avoid their legs from being pulled out from under them, they would suffer a far more grievous wound from the other blade. Once knocked to the ground Ja'buul used one of it's spider-like legs to roll the enemy over while a scythe blade drove into the ground to keep them from continuing to roll out of the way. Also, it would be done so that the bipedal hunter would now be rolled on their back, over the arm bearing the projectile weapon, thus preventing it from being used against the arthropod terror. Quickly, the great hunter moved back a pace while keeping one blade embedded in the ground to stop the prey from moving that direction. It snapped it's great mandibles in a display of dominance before raising its free blade high to deliver a single finishing blow. The situation was not an impossible one, to survive; but it was not something that would be easily escaped. Ja'buul was hoping to strike fast and finish it before the other would be able to raise the weapon of their free arm against it. However, the results of the fight between this tremendous bug and the altered madman would never be known in this world, for unexpected elements would disrupt and end this altercation. At about the point where Alvar had called on his magic, there was a more subtle shift in the weave of magic that appeared. It was not a result of his magic, simply a coincidence that the two started at the same moment. Alvar might be a magic wielder but only a master wizard or something to that effect would have been able to sense the subtle shift when it first began. The disturbance grew rapidly until it would be able to reach a detectable level but by then it was doubtful that either would sense it, for they were both preoccupied in a fight for survival, and if it was detected, it would surely be presumed that their respective opponent was the source. However, in the instant just before ja'buul would normally have brought down his scythe blade to strike and attempt to finish this, it lingered a second longer, given pause by the sense that was not impossible to ignore to even the most magically dis-inclined creature. Still, Ja'buul never turned to face it and after that split second pause, it's blade began to move. It was a creature of priority. Killing this victim was more important than turning to investigate strange sensations. It was best to finish one target before possibly engaging in another. To both figures, bug and man, the world would seem to slow down as if they were watching things happen rather than partaking in them. Ja'buul's screech of death was drowned out by something that sounded like ten of the mightiest thunderclaps all happening at once. As it's blade tore through the air down towards it's prey, it would stop partway, and be recoiled in a sudden shriek of pain. From Alvar's perspective, he would only be able to see the entire creature rear back and the air being filled with something that sounded like a chorus of screams intermingled with the bestial shrieking of the tremendous arthropod. It would thrash and shriek further as it staggered back as if trying to reach something on it's back that could not be reached thanks to the construction of it's body. The carapace covering it;s wings, and the tremendous sheer wings beneath would open but not begin to beat so it could take flight. There could be felt the faint pulse in the air as if an invisible, faint, and soundless explosion went off behind the creature and it staggered and fell forwards, revealing a tremendous gash in the exoskeleton on it's back. Collapsed on the ground it's head looked about wildly for the source of it's agony. Eyes glowing red like fire partially illuminated the area as it's gaze set upon Alvar with a rage few in the world had ever before felt the likes of. As if pure, raw, hatred from a thousand demons were all pouring out at the one within it's sights. The creature struggled to move but clearly the damage that had been done to it was limiting it's ability at a rapid pace. One sycthe blade arm lunged forwards and speared the ground, at this point one might realize, the other arm was still speared in the ground by Alvar, having been ripped out when it first reared back in pain. The arm that was still attacked was being used to pull the beast forwards as it's other legs tried to function. Something unseen was inhibiting it from rising up and using its rear, locust-like, legs, and the middle legs of a spider were only able to do so much when dragging the tremendous amount of dead weight. It pulled itself closer with a mighty screech and raised the scythe-blade to attempt to close the final bit of distance between it and Alvar, when a figure appeared from beside and in a flash of silver, removed the creature of its other useful arm. Because it was night in a shady forest, and the figure's back was turned to Alvar, it was hard to tell anything of them save for their height and the fact that they wore some manner of cloak or long jacket. The powerful sense of magic emanated from this slouching figure but it was also apparent, that the arms holding the tremendous nodachi, were trembling, not from fear but more like shaking with age or a visible struggle against pain. Ja'buul's hate could be felt in the air all around them, overwhelming the sense of magic from the other figure and it's head reared back slightly. The "Spirit of destruction" was desperate and unwilling to fall alone. It's head snapped forwards but rather than stop as far as it's neck could reach there was a sickening sound like breaking bone accompanied by something familiar to what an arm being torn off would sound like. The head sailed through the air and in flight sprouted legs from where it had severed itself. It hit the ground once and then launched itself again, straight for Alvar with a shriek like a thousand screams. It's mandibles spread wide...and then continued to spread as the two halves of the head went sailing apart, and landed on the ground a few feet apart from each other and pace away from Alvar's feet. Red eyes still glowed and a final gurgling hiss resounded from both parts. The red glow slowly faded and a sense of calm began to fill the forest, however, Ja'buul had yet to play his final card. Suddenly, from behind the strange figure hidden in shadow, who had moved with such incredible speed to rend the head in half with their lengthy blade, the form of Ja'buul's headless body rose up. In particular, the tremendous scorpion tail arched high with incredible speed clearly attempting one last strike at the one who had slain it. Before anyone could cry a warning, the figure spun in place as did their blade. The tail was severed and sent sailing through the air to skid across the ground, limp and useless. Once more the body heavily thudded to the ground. The figure turned and said nothing, for there was still work to be done. As soon as the body fell, once more the chorus of screams filled the air, this time they had no source, they were ambiance from all around them. Hatred, spite, malice, and rage filled the air around them. An invisible pressure seemed to weigh down on the world as if the wild anger was attempting to crush them with it's magnitude alone. The stranger knelt and drew what appeared to be parchment from within their dark garb. Unfurling the scroll revealed a strange, and intricate seal the origins of which would predate the limits of Alvar's knowledge by hundreds of years. It was a strange combination of alchemical symbol and magical runes crafted about an intricate circle. The stranger placed their hands on either side of it and suddenly it began to glow. A well of magic could be felt from that point and then a strange sensation could be felt by all as if some unseen force lightly tugging at ones heart. The seal continued to glow and actually lifted off the page, as it did so, the sense of pressure and rage seemed to lessen. This waning of the anger was followed by a tremendous spike, however it was different now. This was no longer the hate born from spite, it was the desperate fury of a beast faced with its own demise. The anger seemed to pull away despite how it fought, concentrating at the glowing symbol for several moments. As it grew fainter the screaming shrieks became wails of agony, pain, and defeat. The ambient noise was replaced with a crushing sense of stillness and silence. The symbol had floated over the figure who had created it and as it faded away, two eyes seemed to grow brighter, regaining a dim white glow to them. The figure rose to their feet just as the moon was no longer marred by clouds. Cast in moonlight this towering figure could now be seen in detail by the other... However before full attention could be given the new arrival, the former vengence of nature would be given one final display of the supernatural, in honor of all the eternally raging spirits, had done for it. Nature would reclaim the body of her weapon, the arthropods would bury the remains of their living god. It seemed as if the entire forest came to life with subtle movement and vibration. Ants, roaches, spiders, termites, gnats, mosquitoes, flies, bees, wasps, hornets, scorpions, locust, crickets, and even maggots came teeming up like a black cloud intermingled with a wave. The air was black with their presence and they swarmed over the head and body of the fallen beast. The air was nothing but black and the resounding hum of millions of the creatures swarming over the fallen monstrosity and then just as suddenly as they had arrived, all had vanished leaving nothing where the beast had lain. Ja'buul, spirit of destruction, vengeance of the forest, had finally been slain. The air grew silent and still once more and the towering stranger stood still for a long moment before turning to face Alvar. His glowing white eyes took in the other figure without any sign of concern. It seemed as if he was simply taking Alvar in, calculating and measuring all that was possible, and doing so with no more than a glance. In a deep, yet softer voice, that carried a hint of reverberation in every note, the brown haired stranger spoke. "I am Veneficus Prognatus Viscus..." It was a flat introduction devoid of feeling, simply stating raw fact. "I apologize if you had other plans for the fiend; but it's sacrifice was necessary to sustain my existence upon entering this world... Tell me, what is the name of this world that I have entered? Where am I presently located?" It's words were neither proud, nor sympathetic. Everything he stated was nothing more than that, statement and question. Fact, and the quest to obtain information. If the magical seal upon the smooth skin of his abdomen, where a navel should have been, and the faint glow of raw magic in his eyes, were not enough to reveal that he was no ordinary mortal being, the way he spoke and the sound of his faintly reverberating voice would clearly make it evident. Too slow. He was just too slow. The creature, which was now far more beautiful than it had ever been before, emerged behind him. He fell, his crossbow falling from his grasp. The thing tried to roll him, which the scientist went along with, although it blocked his escape, leaving him on his back. The blade in the back of his shoulder shot out again, and he was about to move up sharply, planning to impale the poor creatures head, before spinning and using the blade on the same arm to decapitate it. He had realised his chance of bringing this creature back alive was low... And perhaps, somewhere deep within his scarred, mangled mind, he recognised his folly in fighting it on its home turf. But perhaps not. And then, just as the fight was to be decided on who was quicker, the beast's weapon coming down, or the madman's moving up, everything changed. Magic could be smelt in the air, things were slow. The wonder of this new event caused Alvar to pause in bewilderment... What new development was this? Noise added to the strangeness. He span as he heard his subject scream, and saw it rear back, getting to his feet he watched as it continued to try and lunge at him, in what appeared to be its death throes. He grabbed his crossbow quickly, and looked back. A new figure was there. This one was... Just as, if not more interesting than the bug, which was swiftly fading from Alvar's mind, despite its display of death. This new one... He was something of magic, and just magic, not like the hybrid of magic, flesh and metal that he made (he glanced at his arm briefly here), but actual one hundred percent pure magic. That... Was so much more interesting. If Alvar could tap into the secrets of that, his research would move on leaps and bounds, he could create a whole race of magic formed creatures, and they would be perfect, for he saw in this one many imperfections in form (at least to his mind they were). And this being... It killed the mighty insect king, as Alvar had heard it called in his torture chambers. But it did not stop there. It took a scroll, filled with symbols the researcher could not understand... Even if his mind had not taken the damage it had over the years, he would have but the merest idea as to what they were something he would have seen, but never understood. Again, this... Thing, this miraculous, incredible, unfathomable thing, could be so useful... It could save so many in the long run! If only it could see the cause as Alvar did he could achieve his aim! He was sure of it... Despite the fact his aim had been forgotten long ago. Alvar took a single step towards it, and then stopped dead. Insects flooded at and around him, in their tens of millions. Alvar growled, and swatted at them with his great left hand. He caught many, but it was but a drop in the ocean. But as soon as they came, they were gone. And now the thing spoke to him... It was confused... Alvar grinned, and in his mind the wheels turned, levers were pulled and everything set into a working order. "It was a necessary sacrifice, I am sure..." he replied, his voice full of a million thoughts and plans "You, my magnificent friend, are in the middle of a forest... Why don't you come with me, and I will tell you all we need to know..." he smiled in a way he thought was friendly and open, but in actual fact looked more like the look a hunter might give its prey "You can trust me... I am Alvar..." he paused. What was the rest of his name? He honestly did not know. "Just Alvar" he decided "A researcher, scientist, and student of the world" |

The glowing eyes of the mystical stranger captured and absorbed everything before them. The slightest twitch, the flex of every muscle, the folding of flesh, the speed at which breath was taken and released. The predatory smile that was given to him was noted and acknowledged as a sign of pleasure, as well as an attempt to stay any potential hostilities. What motives were behind this action had a vast number of variables attached to them many of which could simultaneously. The number of possible reasons was evenly divided between those which would be fore and against his favor, and so sufficient information would be further required before any judgment could be made. However suspicion was strong for the vague answers given his questions as well as the unprovoked offer for more assistance than he had requested, was a warning sign of potential threat. Vene, was not one to trust swiftly. Silence was allowed to conquer the air between the two for a moment, before Vene’s faintly reverberating voice would offer it’s carefully constructed response. “ We have not been introduced nor exposed to one another’s company long enough for you to call me friend. It is an err to presume so swiftly that such a bond could exist between us at this juncture…or in the immediate future. Your answer to my request was only partially sufficient by any standard and erroneous information was presented before it was requested. While I did ask where I was presently located, a forest, although technically accurate, was not the answer I was seeking; but perhaps you were confused… I find that possibility reinforced by the fact that you failed to inform me of a specific portion of knowledge I DID request. Either you do not know the name of this world which would then in part explain why your only answer to my second question was as unsatisfactory as it was, or you are simply confounded by the questions. In either case you are clearly of little efficient use to me so I shall continue on my way without wasting further time.” The long cold speech intentionally left out mentioning the possibility of Alvar bearing him ill will and intentionally withholding information. This was because if it were not the case to mention so might either cause ideas of such actions, or offend and thus cause them to be. It had been one of the most Tactfull statements Vene had made so far in his life. Which was saying something considering the partially unintentional insinuations that Alvar could be lacking sufficient intellect. Without a second glance the magical entity in the form of a man, proceeded to walk past; but beyond arms reach, of the other biped, having selected a random direction to proceed in, in hopes of finding a more helpful contact, or a means by which to discover what he needed to know, for himself. Despite how things might appear, his guard was far from lowered. Vene was entirely aware that this was an unfamiliar world which was completely capable of being entirely hostile at a seconds notice. |

"My, my... Are we not hasty?" Alvar chuckled as the... Thing, magical, superior being walked away "We are in Soare... More specifically, in a land named Soto. Are we happy now, my impatient aquiantance?" his fingers clicked as they drummed against his crossbow, the dull sound of metal connecting with metal "No?" he raised an eyebrow, and his crossbow dropped into a lower position, although it still remained ready for use at a moments notice. His mind whirred, taking everything in he could, for he doubted now that a creature as physically perfect, but mentally flawed, would be willing to work with him, or allow itself to be used to advance knowledge leaps and bounds. If only he could briefly examine it... Just pierce its skin a little, see what was underneath... He moved to begin picking up his empty crossbow cartridges, slotting them neatly away, ready to be refilled when he returned to his lab. "You really are a perplexing creature" he mumbled to himself "Born of nothing, knowing nothing, and immediatly alienating those around you..." he chuckled a little, and set off in the opposite direction, without so much as a glance back. He would see what was here, and head back... What a wasted effort... No... He smiled, there was a couple of things he learned... A couple of very useful things... The he picked an odd strand of the insect kings web off from his crossbow, and looked at it... Yes. This had not been a complete waste after all. |
