Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

Gambit

[Reserved For: Mirix]

A glitter of gold would be all it took for a thief in waiting to pounce on his target but as the shadow-concealed tiefling scanned the common area of Reine, none met nor came close to meeting his standards. He almost had profiling down to a science in this area. Stealing from the merchants could have been his best bet but since it was just after dawn, their wallets hadn’t been filled with enough profit for Gambit’s tastes. Not until later in the afternoon would most of them even earn enough coin to cut even. A crew of sailors managed to graze passed him, but their destination was the tavern and most of their lot docked with near emptied pockets, not a gold piece on them until fish-loving Sotoans offered up payment for their catches. Fish... Gambit gagged at the thought, disgusted at the putrid stench such a creature created. Still, sailors managed to keep enough on their person for an ale or two, but that wouldn’t come close to what the thief was after at the moment. He wanted a higher prize; something worth stealing. Nabbing small purses and bracelets was fun and all, but he never managed to make a large enough sum. On this particular morning, Gambit was out for the gold - literally. A mercenary or adventurer could suit his needs well, as most still carried the gems and treasures found in their trek hoping to sell to merchants at high profits, but of course there wasn’t a sword or single weapon in sight to hint at one with said occupation. No, it seemed Lady Luck wasn’t favoring him at all this morning.

He continued gazing onwards at the various inhabitants of town through his narrowed, magenta eyes that were concealed within his typical masquerade mask. His glowing irises were about the only portion of his entire silhouette that could be seen, the rest consumed in shadow save for a sliver of one of his massive horns sticking out from aside the crate behind which he was standing, his back against it and his line of sight just over his shoulder. Gambit dabbled in the art of shadow-stalking, able to blend and move himself stealthily about in the darkness whenever the need arose. True - it was morning and light was beaming from the heavens and igniting the town, but he was positioned between two large stone buildings in an alley lined with wooden crates just like the one he stood behind. Here, beneath a blanket of shadow, none would see nor expect him when his chance to pick a pocket queued. And should his attempt at thievery fail, there were plenty more alleyways through which he could run to conceal himself once again. Guards weren’t a problem though. Reine didn’t seem to have many law enforcement personnel since most of the town policed itself, except for the guild dominated areas of course. Regardless, Gambit didn’t foresee himself failing. He had been doing this for ages now, and only once had he ever gotten caught. Not to mention, meeting his captor was a far more fortunate encounter for him than stealing what he was originally after.

Time continued to pass as the fiend continued biding his time, waiting for the perfect moment. More citizens continued to come and go, passing through the circular common area hustling and bustling with shouting merchants and a singing bard, all positioned around the stone fountain in the center with its statue of a Koi spouting water from its mouth. (It was too bad no one wished in it much though, then he could collect the tossed-in coins. ) He watched as some of them found their destinations in either the Rest-A-Bit tavern, one of the surrounding shops built of red brick, or even down one of the six roads leading away from the fountain. He wished he had a particular destination, but for now, Reine was his home and while here, he would collect all the profit the port town could offer.

Daylight, the bane to the twilight devil’s existence. The demon looked up as he walked, eyes narrowing at the overly bright light and causing him to tiredly roll his eyes. It wasn’t as if he had some sort of weakness to sunlight or anything of the sort. No, he was simply nocturnal by nature and found himself to be most active when the sun was either setting or nowhere to be seen. Mirix simply didn’t operate too much during the daylight hours; he could, if he forced it, but then he would be tired and not his usual carefree self. He normally spent them either sleeping or keeping to himself, holed up comfortably where he was sure no one would find him. However if they did it was no big deal as he would leave them be unless they were being decidedly annoying in which case their death would be quick and body used as a cushion to make him more comfortable.

Unfortunately Mirix had been unable to find a decent spot to store himself for the day. There were enough inns and things, but he didn’t care for them. They were much too loud and bothersome for him to even attempt to get some shut eye. The first, and last time he tried actually sleeping in an inn, he literally had to kill every single person in it and barricade the door. It was all just too much work and not worth the effort.

There was a very tired and serious look on his face as he wandered through the city streets. In the light he looked a little different than during the day. His hair seemed more vibrant, the silver strands glinting as if actually made of metal, the red tips glistening whenever the sun hit them at just the right angle. His eyes seemed darker, the ecru irises standing out more against the darkness around his eyes and skin tone in general.

As he wandered, those who noticed him kept their distance, the unnerving and spine chilling aura that emanated from him causing most of those who saw him to shudder and quickly turn away. Of course there were always those who were oblivious to the danger around them and most of those types found themselves knocked out of the way when a strong shoulder bumped forcefully against them. Mirix spent most of the day in this sort of stupor, wandering with no destination, eyes carelessly wandering all around, not really looking at anything in particular, and all the while becoming hungrier as time wore on. Eventually though, something seemed to catch his interest and he focused on the sight of a perfectly shaped red apple in the hands of a young boy. Mirix, in his sort of daze didn’t actually notice that the apple was actually being held by someone; to him it was just there waiting for him to take and devour it.

Easily the demon sauntered over and snatched the apple from the boy’s hands, just as he was smiling up at the one who bought it, ready to cherish and eat the thing himself. Immediately after grabbing the apple though, Mirix took a large bite, much to the anguish and surprise of the boy and his now suddenly angered father. Mirix was actually a carnivore at heart, but fruits and things of that nature could indeed satisfy him in a pinch, which was much his reason for taking the fruit as his own. “Hey ya bastard!” The man yelled as the demon began to walk away. The man, reaching out a heavy hand to grab at the demon’s shoulder and whirl him around was likely a sailor by trade by the look of his clothes and the feel of his calloused hands. When spun, Mirix didn’t even seem to be looking at the human and it took his eyes a second to actually focus onto him, after which they immediately narrowed to slits.

Just when the man was about to say something smart before giving the fruit thief a beating, the demon sent a hard and heavy fist careening into the sailor’s nose. The man literally flew off his feet and landed on his back against a cart, a bloody mess in the middle of his face where his nose used to be. The demon either didn’t seem to notice or simply didn’t care about the chaos his action generated though. The only thing he did notice was the fairly large pouch of gold that now lay half opened in the fallen male’s hands. Shiny things made the demon happy so without a word he walked over, passed the shocked and teary eyed boy to swipe up the pouch. After that Mirix was simply on his way again, moving casually away from the scene of the crime as if nothing had even happened. He was vaguely aware of his state of mind, which bothered him, but he didn’t really know what to do about it. He needed something to appear and make his daytime wandering worthwhile and not so dull and listless.

Gambit

All at once the heads of just about all the citizens mingling within the common circle turned to stare in fear at the approaching demonic figure with crimson-tipped silver hair, all taking precautions to steer clear from his path to avoid bumping shoulders with one so daunting as he. As the events of the stolen apple unfolded in the now clear street, Gambit could only stare in awe and admiration at how confident this devil could be, and how stupid the child’s father must have been to ever think he might be strong enough to overpower an infernal incarnate. True – Gambit was much more inclined to steal stealthily, but this other devil could just take whatever he wanted without consequence. His desires, his dreams, just as tangible as the apple he had snatched from the little boy or the father’s face where the demon planted his fist. What power! the fiend marveled, revealing himself from the shadows like a curious fawn from the brush, all the while his magenta irises never straying from such a majestic site. What it must be like…? Gambit was never one to lust for power, but witnessing such an event might have changed his nature forever. All the while he had been out for his own greed, but now… perhaps leaning towards a more evil side would suit him better. There was but one way to find out; the tiefling needed to speak to this man at once.

His feet carried him towards the figure without hesitation, yet all the while his boots felt as if the very fabric from which they were sewn was made of stone. A nervous swarm of butterflies nauseated his stomach and the chill of adrenaline now coursed his veins, pulsing through his fluttering heart. He continued to press forward, not certain what the outcome of this encounter could be. Good or bad, or maybe neither, at least he gave it a shot.

After catching up to the apple-thief, he decided it best to keep a few cushions of distance between them for awhile until his confidence was high enough to initiate interruption. Gambit followed the figure for a time, hoping to speak with him in a setting less public. Besides, it was best not to intrude on him while he was obviously busy making his way there (wherever ‘there’ was). ‘Til then, the tiefling utilized his skills in stealth to move silently behind the devil he now stalked, hoping not to trigger his senses and suffer his wrath.

Mirix was all but oblivious to the presence of the mortal creatures around him; much to their unknowing benefit. The male who now was lying in a heap, attempting to be revived by some who had stood by and seen what had happened was lucky, his fate could’ve been much worse for Mirix was prone to over the top violent reactions to lesser actions against him. Though his eyes were now tending to wander as he walked, the demon was looking beyond the physical forms of those around him to the architecture of the buildings and stalls he was passing. To him at this very moment, no one existed in the general area aside from himself and he was quite fine with that as he took another large bite out of his apple. Right now the only way for him to even become aware that others existed would be for someone to brush against him; something that was extremely unlikely now that nearly everyone was going out of their way to stay out of his path.

The demon was completely unaware of the fact that he was being followed, so caught up was he in his own thoughts and automatic instinct to find a place that fit the description of “away from here”. He walked about the city for a good half hour after the initial incident, the apple having long since vanished, devoured entirely, core and all by the voracious eater.

Eventually his wanderings had him coming towards an empty alleyway and he immediately turned down it, momentarily vanishing from his stalker’s direct line of sight. Immediately thereafter, the demon was seemingly gone from the alleyway, no longer walking down the path towards the other side. Mirix hadn’t gone very far at all, and was now simply walking up the side wall to the roof of the building that was casting shadows down into the alley. This wasn’t exactly a disappearing act, but instead something that could probably fairly easily throw off someone who was not use to tracking a creature such as he.

It didn’t take the demon much time at all to scale the building. Moving along vertical surfaces was second nature to him and he didn’t think much of it. When he reached the top, he stepped onto the roof and once more out of sight, still unaware that there was anyone who had taken interest in following him about the cityscape.

Gambit

Gambit made sure his footsteps were silent. Such a feat took a tremendous amount of effort though, as the fiend was far from weightless. His horns alone weighed a ton, or so it felt. Still, years of stealth practice had given him enough skill to avoid detection from the demon he now stalked.

An unexpected turn down an alley broke Gambit’s trail and he immediately gave chase, stopping before reaching the entrance to the alley to press his back against the chilling stone wall. He peered around the corner and saw… nothing. Where did he go? he questioned, now standing in the entrance with a finger scratching the surface of one of his horns. He quirked his head and looked about and it took him a short moment to think to look up. He just did catch a glimpse of the devil as he stepped onto the roof, and not wasting a moment of hesitation, Gambit scaled the building himself, yet another skill he had a small amount of practice with.

Just as he reached the top, he pulled himself over the ledge and now thankful to be on his feet once more, hastened his steps to catch up to the devil. Damnit! he cursed himself, stopping as he noticed the sound of his own footsteps. He had forgotten to ensure his steps were silent this time. His entire frame was frozen still. He was sure the devil had heard him now.

The demon let loose a soft sigh once he was finally on top of the roof. It was completely deserted, just as he wanted it. Even he, who normally quite enjoyed being amidst large groups of people occasionally wanted and needed time to himself. Fatigue would do that to you after all. Mirix began slowly wandering across the roof, headed to the other side just to catch a glimpse at the ants before when something caught his attention.

He stopped mid-step and blinked curiously when the sound of footsteps reached his sensitive ears. The feline appendages twitched twice as his eyes moved to the side in a vain attempt to see what it was that was stalking him. Almost immediately, the demon’s claws extended and his mouth parted slightly to allow his pierced tongue to rub over his fangs in anticipation.

Though he did have a desire to be alone at the moment, if there was going to be someone here, he might as well pay them some attention. Unfortunately for them, when in his current fatigued mood, Mirix’s first reaction to any outside interference was to eat them. Food, no matter what his mood always made him feel better after all.

When the demon turned round to face his stalker, there was a particularly vicious look on his face. He had been expecting a too curious human to have been following him for who knows why. However, the sight that greeted him was much different than what he had been expecting; which stopped him and caused his elongated claws to retract to a less threatening length. He stared at the clearly inhuman thing for a good three seconds before the look on his face softened into an amused smirk.

The horns, hair, eyes and face told him right off the bat that whatever he was looking at was or could be in some form or fashion something likened to kin. Perhaps not a full blooded demon like himself, but something…. Along those lines. Mirix’s eyes narrowed a bit though he was still smirking at the newcomer.

”Who are you, what are you, and what do you want? Speak quickly for I am not in the most amiable of moods.”
