Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

"Maybeh you're just gettin old. Hyuck! Hyuck! Hyuck! Ohhhhhhh, there goes my hip 'gain." Agnar joked and laughed as he moved in a way that made a loud sickening crack. "But seriously, we'll take a fifteen minute break. Sound good. Probably woulda been easier to teleport here, but..." Agnar stopped and scratched his beard before sitting down on the rocky ground.

"I will admit, I do feel somethin in there. Definently not normal for an enchanted item of some sorta magic. Could be there is something distortin everything. Who knows."

He crossed his arms.

"I'll just focus on working out dat spell then, I feel it coming."

There wasn't much else to do but wait for a little. There was no imminent threat and Drake wouldn't be able to fight if he was worn out and tired out from hiking. Agnar worried about what could possibly be causing such discomfort.

Portal

Portal simply nodded in agreement as Drake asked for a rest. Everyone settled down, and Bane set himself down next to Portal, laying down contently as Portal rested her arm on his back. Portal looked about her. Besides the sense of foreboding that swelled within her, the area was actually somewhat pleasant. She had to keep herself from closing her eyes -- not because she was tired, but because the surroundings just seemed to encourage it. Bane seemed to feel the same way, and let out a small yawn.

Portal chuckled at Bane, who heard and turned his head to face her. Portal ignored his confused look and simply rubbed his head. Content with that, Bane set his head against the ground again. Portal had heard from other summoners she chanced upon meeting that a summoner was never supposed to develop a bond for a summon, as summoned creatures are meant to be expendable. Portal, however, fiercely disagreed with this, especially when it came to guardians. The only creatures she feared making a bond with were berserks, as berserk creatures were . . . mindless. That made her very reluctant to summon them, as she felt as if she was the one robbing them of their sanity, hence why she did not remove the back of her shirt, the location of berserk runes.

"So . . . What are we going to do with it, once we find it?" Portal asked suddenly as the question came to her. "I mean . . . Drake obviously can't hold on to it, considering his current state will only get worse, but I'd rather not trust anybody at all with it, you understand?" Portal didn't mean to be insulting, but simply found the idea of trusting anyone with something that powerful, even herself, was a bad idea.

Drake would have rolled his eyes at Agnar's joke, but he didn't have the energy. However, Agnar then said that he felt something wrong too. If Agnar could feel the energy, and it also felt wrong to him... That wasn't good. When Agnar said that perhaps something was distorting it, Drake agreed completely. "Something is definitely wrong here." he said, "Even at such concentrated levels, magical power should not have such effects just by being there."

Drake wondered what could be going on... Suddenly, Portal asked what they were going to do once they found it. She said that Drake certainly couldn't carry it... Which was true. With Drake's sensitivity to the strange effects of whatever the item was... Well, he was afraid of what might happen. Being in direct contact with such a thing for long... Drake was scared that it might well kill him. It was absolutely horrible from out here...

Drake wasn't quite sure what she meant by not trusting anybody at all with it, but he said, "It might be a good idea... To just destroy it." He looked over at his illusionist friend and said apologetically, "I'm sorry Agnar, but you yourself said that you felt something wrong even from this distance. Anything with such huge amounts of such horrible power cannot under any circumstances whatsoever be allowed to remain. Really not even for the amount of time it would take you to study it..."

Drake really hated the idea of something like what he felt. He now realized... The power he was sensing wasn't pure. It indeed did seem distorted... Evil even. It felt wrong, it couldn't be allowed to remain! He knew it would be a bad thing if someone got their hands on it... He then thought of something, "Actually... This does bring up another problem. Destroying it might release all of its power at once... Which could be a huge problem. Just what is radiating from it is insane, much less the amount that must be inside it... As far as we know, it might destroy the ruins, the entire mountain... Or more."

Drake shuddered. He was hating this more and more. "And even just carrying it away... It's likely to be far stronger inside. I definitely won't be able to get near it at all, and if you can feel it from out here as well, it's likely to be extremely unpleasant for both of you up close too... Likely exhausting too, from what I've already felt... " He sighed. "So, how are we going to do this? Maybe there's some way that the power can be contained..." A thought occurred to him, and he tensed up suddenly. "Or what if it's too large to be carried away at all?"

Drake was getting more upset the more he thought about it. This wasn't good... It wasn't good at all! However... He realized that they couldn't quite be sure until they reached it. He took a few deep breaths, the last one becoming a sigh, and then said, "I suppose that speculating about it won't do much just now. Though we will have to be careful. I suppose we should go inside and at least get a look at it before anything else..." Drake seemed unsure. He still was slightly pale, he wasn't adjusting well to that horrid energy. However, he was feeling less exhausted as he rested... Though barely. He was regaining his energy more slowly than normal, and once he went much further, he'd be drained rather quickly...

Agnar tunned most of what Drake had mentioned out as he concentrated on that spell. Eventually he did hear bits and pieces out of what Drake had been saying. He concluded Drake was paranoid for sure, a bit too cautious.

"Well....we'll cross that bridge and river to grandmama's house when we get der. I wouldn't worry till we find out what exactly is goin' down and around my friend."

Agnar head read many books on magical properties as wel las what could distort and aura and presense. It could be a creature, a spell, or even the artifact it self.

Fifteen minutes came and went, Agnar felt he was a bit closer to realizing what he could do with this spell, but even then, he was far away yet.

"So, Drakey Dragonny man. You feelin' up to this or should we wait longer?" Agnar questioned playfully, he was tired of waiting and simply wanted to find out what was going on with this artifact or magical source, whatever it was.

In truth, Drake's words scared Portal. She hadn't really thought about all the things he brought up, and it showed as her aura went from blue to orange. "A-Agnar's right . . . We shouldn't worry about it now. We'll deal with it later . . ." Portal's aura stayed orange for a while as she worried about what Drake said, but she finally managed to calm her nerves when Bane nuzzled her, concerned. She laid against the ground and closed her eyes to help keep herself calm, and her aura nearly faded to grey before Agnar spoke.

"Wha-huh?" Portal asked dazedly, glancing around quickly. Bane made a quick jump at Agnar's words, as he had been resting as well. "Yes, yes, we should probably hurry. We really can't waste too much time, can we? Not with all the people that might be after it, let alone the source itself. I say we get going, but I suppose we can't go if you're not willing to, Drake."

Agnars said that they would figure it out when they came to it... Which Drake had been planning on doing anyway. He still didn't like the idea of getting any closer to the source of that horrible power... Portal sounded somewhat scared even as she agreed as well, and Drake noticed that her aura had become orange. He also noticed that the wolf she'd summoned earlier seemed concerned about her as well.

Some time passed, and Drake tried to simply rest, though he remained somewhat troubled. Eventually, Agnar suggested that they go on inside, and Portal agreed. Both of them were waiting on his decision. Drake still felt slightly tired, but he said, "I suppose we shouldn't waste too much more time. Let's go in then..." He picked himself off the ground with a bit of difficulty, and began somewhat shakily walking toward the ruins.

Drake was feeling worse and worse at an increasing rate as he tried walking. The further he went, the more intense the power seemed to get... To the point that it seemed almost as if it was intensifying the amount it released as it sensed him coming. That was probably not the case, but... Drake continued walking onward, though it was taking very visible effort by the time he reached the door to the ruins. Drake suddenly spoke at this point, "Agnar, Portal..." His voice was slightly strained, as if it took some effort just to speak... Which it did, for multiple reasons. He did not like saying what he was about to...

"I'm not sure how much further I'll be able to go." He began with his conclusion, essentially. T"his... I'm having trouble going on as it is. At some point, I'm not sure I'll be able to even move..." A hint of fear entered his voice now "Actually, it might reach the point where it will take too much energy to breathe... Or for my heart to beat." He shook his head, "This power has too much effect on me. You understand what I'm getting at, don't you?" He took a breath, "It might kill me. I'm using more energy than I should be with everything I do, even talking like this, right now. Soon I'll be useless if a fight somehow comes, and then..." Drake shook his head and sighed, "I don't think I should go in... I want to help, but I'm not sure I can..."

Drake was obviously very unhappy about this realization that he probably couldn't do much. Helplessness was the worst feeling possible for him. Being unable to do anything, being unable to help anyone... He hated it. And that's how he felt now, being unable to get near that power... He never thought that being so sensitive to magical energy could be such a bad thing... But he'd never expected to be near this much power, especially not twisted power.

As Agnar approached the entrance by himself, he noticed that there was something wrong with the edges of it. They were engraved with runes of some sort. It would seem like it was the source of the magical energy. A powerful barrier, something to ward people away. He did know that if Drake passed through it, he might very well die.

"Quiet. I know what's up." Agnar said and the grabbed Drake and then put his hand on Portal's shoulder. "Try not to throw up."

The group then teleported from where they stood and in about thirty feet into the cave. Agnar felt the distortion from the cave's entrance, not the artifact it self.

"So I was right. Goooood." He chuckled nervously, hope you feel better Drake. The distortion was from the entrance all along, but I can still feel the presense of whatever lies within this cave."

Portal shuddered as Agnar grabbed her and the three of them teleported. She wasn't disgusted, just completely taken by surprise, both by the contact and, far more, by the teleporting. At first it disoriented her, but she quickly realized what had happened and was calm again. "You . . . might have given us more warning," she said, half-joking. She turned to see Bane groggy and tripping over his own paws. She couldn't help but laugh, and knelt down to calm the disoriented wolf. When he was ready, she stood back up.

"Anyway . . . at least this means Drake can help us . . . You can, right?" Portal turned to Drake, well aware of the obvious concern in her tone and facial expression. She was not much of a fighter on her own, and she couldn't always be sure her summons would successfully fight off any opponents. "We just need to get through here as quickly as possible. I don't want to spend any longer in here than is absolutely necessary. I think both of you can agree with that."

"Wha-?!" Drake cried out in surprise as Agnar grabbed him. Then suddenly, they were inside the ruins. "What the hell are you trying to do?!" However, he then realized that he wasn't feeling nearly as bad as he'd been at the entrance. Agnar then confirmed what he'd just realized. "Er... Sorry about that, I was just surprised..." Drake said, wincing in shame as he did so.

The power still seemed slightly odd, but no longer debilitating... Though he wanted to get away from the main distortion at the entrance as soon as possible. Portal then asked if Drake could help after all. Drake hesitated for a moment, before replying, "Yes, I should. Let's get as far from the entrance as possible, and I shouldn't have any more major problems unless I end up touching the artifact."

Drake then said, "Well... Let's go. I can tell where the magic is coming from. It's a lot but without those major distortions, I think I can go on." He began trying to make his way toward where he felt the power from, though there was a wall in that direction that he'd have to walk around first.

"Good to know everyone hasn't upchucked and what not. It wouldn't be too goooood ya know." Agnar then proceeded to look over towards Drake who was using the wall to help him move foward.

"Well, good to know you can fight and walk. Don't think you need that der wall as a guide though. Only one path from the look of things." Agnar jollily walked past Drake, marching foward blindly down the cooridor with his quarterstaff. Frankly, he didn't care what lay ahead, Agnar was confident, perhaps way too full of confidence for his own good. Despite the barriar, the whole cooridor seemed to be rather empty. It went in one direction for a good seven hundred feet before it stopped. There was no branching cooridors, just a wall. Agnar stopped and waited for his new friends to catch up.

Portal

Portal followed Agnar, though significantly more tentatively. She watched her steps carefully and Bane walked cautiously ahead of her. She glanced back toward Drake for a moment, but turned back when she remembered Agnar had encountered no resistance. She increased her pace, and Bane followed shortly, in order to catch up with Agnar sooner.

When the two reached the dead end, Portal scowled. "A wall? But . . . There's only . . ." She turned back, though at this point she couldn't see the place they had started at. It was more of habit than need. "Where do we go, then? I don't know how to blow things up, and I haven't learned how to summon giants . . ." She began to think about all the various things she couldn't summon before being startled by a nudge from Bane. "Maybe Drake . . ." She looked back once more, though she couldn't see Drake, and wondered if he was strong enough to tear apart a wall.

Just... A wall?! And there didn't seem to be anywhere else to go... Portal had started to say something about, "Maybe Drake..." "What was that about me?" he asked confused, "I'm not really sure there's a lot I can do about a wall..." He paused for a moment to think.

"So... Do we look for a secret passage or something then?" he wondered aloud, "There doesn't seem to be any other way around or anything..." Drake sighed. "Or maybe..." He tried to detect if the wall had any magical energy. No, it didn't... Then again, there was still the chance that it was an extremely well-done illusion, he wasn't always able to detect them. Drake walked up to the wall and started reaching his hand toward it, seeing if it would go through...

Agnar stood there and examined the wall, just waiting around for his friends to catch up. Eventually they did, but still Agnar remained still studing the wall. As Drake reached foward, the wall appeared to be solid, in a way. It was hard to tell, it was almost as if it was liquid in a way. Agnar approached and did the same, only his hand began to glow a bright vibrant blue. The illussion weakened as both hands passed through.

"I gots it!" Agnar said laughing. "I learned how to doooo that magicky!! Oh you helped too Drake. Illussion was strained 'cause of you."

Portal

Portal was beginning to wonder why she was even here. So far, she hadn't been very useful, and it didn't seem like she was going to be any time in the future. Drake seemed combat-capable, and Agnar could handle the magic. Summoners weren't the best team-players, really. Not with anyone besides their summons. Still, she was driven by two things: she wanted to know what the source of the energy was, and she didn't want to just leave these two alone. She didn't think they needed her help, but she'd feel guilty if she jut up-and-left.

SHaking her head wearily, she focused her mind back on the task at hand. "If there was an illusion prepared here, and a barrier . . .doesn't that mean someone else is already here?"

When Drake touched the wall, it didn't immediately give, but something seemed odd... Then, Agnar seemed to cast some sort of spell as he put his own hand out, and both their hands passed through the wall. Agnar said that Drake had helped and caused the illusion to become strained... Whatever then.

Drake replied when he heard Portal speak, "I'm not sure. That could be the case, but I'd also think that it might be possible that it was some sort of long-lasting enchantment. Whatever that power is coming from, it's quite possible that whoever put it here didn't want people taking it." Or, he thought. Maybe they don't want it getting[/i] out...[/i]

It was somewhat unlikely, but he thought it might be possible that a creature might have been sealed here. Kept alive through magic... Or perhaps a golem of some sort. Regardless of what it was, it would NOT be a good thing if the wrong person got their hands on it. An artifact could almost certainly be wielded somehow, and even if no one figured out how, just a release of so much power would be catastrophic... A creature could cause huge amounts of destruction whether it went wild or was tamed...

He supposed that it didn't matter much. "Come on," he said, "We need to find out what's radiating that power, and then figure out what to do about it. The longer we wait, the more likely someone else will try to get it, if they aren't already." He walked through the illusionary wall, which hadn't disappeared completely, but was no longer solid.

The hallway continued past the illussion and straight for a while until it reached a sturdy oak door. Agnar soon caught up with Drake. As they stood there and listened, they could hear some kinda of talking coming from the otherside of the door. It sounded like nonsense, incoherent babbling from a madman. It was unsettling to say the least. Agnar looked at Drake, as if to say something, but did not. He was hoping that someone would open the door to see what in the world could be on the other side.

Portal

Portal followed behind Agnar as he moved forward, finally approaching a door. She, too, heard a voice from the other side of the door. "Should we open it?" she asked, keeping her voice soft. Bane tensed, and there was a low guttural growl coming from his throat, but it was rather quiet. Portal was ready to summon an imp, but didn't want to waste the power until it was absolutely necessary. "We can't just ambush him . . . He might not be an enemy . . . But if he is, we can't afford to be taken off guard. What do we do?" In truth, she was hesitant to take any action. The last thing she wanted to do was hurt an innocent person, but she wasn't quite ready to die yet either.

What was that voice coming from behind that door? It sounded... Well, completely insane really. Agnar looked like he was about to say something himself, though he was silent. Then Portal spoke, saying something about they couldn't ambush them because it might not be an enemy, but if it was, not to be taken off guard.

Drake thought for a moment, trying to think of what to do... Then he realized that he should probably just open the door. If whoever it was would attack, he'd probably sense it and be able to get out of the way. Of course, if it was a projectile, and the other two were put in the way by it...

Drake said to Portal and Agnar, "Both of you stand away from the door to the side. I can probably dodge any attack if it comes, but I don't want you to be in the way in that case." He then walked forward toward the door, and then began to slowly open it... As soon as he touched the door, he began thinking of a strange idea of what if the door was trapped... Then again, it was pretty much too late anyway, and if it was, the person on the other side probably would have activated it themselves... He wasn't sure why he sometimes thought of odd stuff like that, no matter how ridiculous the idea was...

Drake was well aware that some of the ideas that popped into his head were ridiculous, and he didn't give them any serious consideration of their being remotely possible. In this particular case, it wasn't completely absurd but... It still got really annoying sometimes.

The door creeked open, inside stood a metallic humanoid, muttering all kinds of incoherent things. Random facts about the land. It was mad. It stood at a height of about 6,6 and appeared to be made of various plate metals and wood. It wore a helmet, an old traditional viking one, large bull like horns, pertruding foward. In the dead center was a bright red gem. It stood out among the grey and dulled metal of the helmet. The worst part was, it was armed with a rather long and pointy sword and a shield.

"Well, what do you see?" Agnar whispered backing away slightly from Drake.

Portal

Portal did as she was told, Bane tensed right beside her, ready to pounce should something make a sudden move. Portal would have summoned her Scout, butt didn't want to risk detection, and so simply waited silently as Drake opened the door. As he did, she tensed. The more she thought about it, the more she expected a fight to be coming. She couldn't imagine another person being here who wasn't either after the power, the source of the power, or a guardian of it. Whatever the case, there was a very likely chance the being would not be very friendly.

When Agnar asked Drake what he saw, Portal gritted her teeth together and knelt down besides Bane, ready to either pull him out of the way of an attack or keep him from attacking recklessly. At first Bane attempted to pull away from her, but she gave a short, fierce tug on the scruff of his neck, and he heeled, but Portal could still see his legs tensed to spring, and wasn't sure she could stop him if he chose to dart forward.

So... It looked like he'd been right when he'd considered the possibility of a golem. For that was exactly what stood here now, with a gem in its helmet that was obviously the source of all this magic power. That was... A lot. He could tell that just a bit closer, even those not as sensitive to magic as he was would be able to feel it. Such power...

Drake heard Agnar ask what he saw, and replied, "It's... A golem. And on its head, there's a helmet, that has a gem in it... That's the source of the power." He then sighed, "So, how do we deal with this? I know you'll probably want to study it, but afterward, we'll need to destroy it. But considering the amount of power, it might be catastrophic to simply shatter it..."

He shook his head, "For now, we need to figure out how to deal with the golem though. Either of you have any ideas? I doubt it will let us simply take the gem..." He looked at it, trying to think of some way to do this. He didn't especially want to go into melee combat with it. Sure, Drake himself was actually a little bigger, but it might well be far stronger than he could handle.

"Does it look hostile, insane and or pink? Does it have a monocle?" Agnar asked staring at Drake intently. "I say we charge it if it does. Taking such things by surprise will certainly give us the advantage we need to over come this kind of adversity. Pink monocle wearing golems won't last long against three that get the drop on it. S'pecially with a dragonny man on out side." He attempted to be quiet. He didn't want to draw the creatures attention to the group.

He nodded once again and then looked back to portal. Her wold dog was ready to pounce at a moment.

"Make that a four. That doggeh you got there will definently be handy. Though I'd rather not see the feller hurt. Ja know." Agnar then turned back to Drake. "Your call my friend."

Drake had to chuckle slightly at the idea of a pink golem with a monocle, but then he responded, "Insane, almost certainly. And armed, though I somewhat doubt it even needs the weapon, or the shield."

At this point in time, the golem seemed to notice him, as it cried, "NO, NO! YOU SHALL NOT HAVE IT!" and began charging toward Drake. Drake quickly shifted into dragon form, and quickly flew around the golem, breathing fire at it. Drake REALLY didn't want to touch the gem where the power was emanating from... He had a feeling that even without the distortion from what had been at the entrance, it wouldn't be at all pleasant an experience to come into direct contact with that sheer amount of power...

Of course, the helmet the gem was on... If that could be knocked off, then that would be best. However, he needed to focus on staying alive for now...

"Kill it with fireh! Kill it with fireh!" Agnar screamed at the top of his lungs as he extended his hands and unleashed two fireballs from them. As Drake engulfed the creature in flames, Agnar's added some impact. One impacted the face of the construct while the other hit it's torso. The creature stumbled back, lashing out at whoever came close.

"YOU SHALL NOT HAVE IT!" the construct yelled frantically.

"Ram et!" Agnar shouted as he tried to concoct a plan. He needed sometime, it didn't seem all too dangerous, just mad. Drake was a dragon, brute force seemed like it would do. Kick in the door and smash. Yes, it seemed like the best thing.

"Ram et Dragonny man! Do's it!"

The fire obviously wasn't going to kill this thing instantly. Drake wasn't quite sure what to do... Then, suddenly, Agnar was shouting to ram it... Well, it was as good a plan as any. Though Drake wasn't quite sure that he had enough power to do much damage to this thing... Well, he could at least try.

Drake flew back away from the thing, and then shot toward it, still . The impact... Was not pleasant. Though the impact apparently jarred his brain back into place, as he remembered another spell that could probably help... Especially since the golem had been knocked over.

Drake concentrated, and then, several six foot tall, six inch wide at the base stalagmites pierced the golem, though he made sure none of them hit the magical stone. That should be enough to finish it off.
