Drake and Agnar had been wandering for days, not really much aim. Agnar had told him some rather unbelievable stories... They were good for a laugh, but Drake didn't believe them at all... Agnar also would sometimes make jokes that would cause Drake to suddenly want to scream in frustration... Or better yet, ROAR in frustration! Not to say that the illusionist wasn't useful... The bandits they'd run across on their journey were even easier to slay when distracted by illusions. Finally, they reached something that would stop the pointless wandering. Drake sensed something... Magical power... It was enough that he didn't even have to concentrate to see it, far more than just an invisibility spell of some sort would generate as he saw nothing ahead of him and couldn't quite detect a source. When he concentrated, he could see ridiculous amounts of magical energy in the distance... Drake looked over at Agnar, "I'm sensing a whole lot of magic from that direction," he pointed, "We should probably go check it out." Drake began walking without waiting for a reply. He slowly got closer and closer to the source of the magic, and the energy got thicker and thicker. Eventually, a town came within sight, though the source of the magic clearly wasn't inside it. Drake could tell that the source of it was still pretty far away... Just what the hell was giving it off?! The amount of power was ridiculous beyond belief... From here, it still probably wasn't enough for most people to sense, but it was blowing Drake's mind, because it wasn't inconsiderable, and the source was still so far away... Whatever was giving that off must have absolutely incredible power... It might be a good idea to see if anyone else was willing to help them. Drake had a feeling that whatever that magic came from, it shouldn't just be left alone, and quite likely would be extremely difficult to get a hold of. Some help would definitely be a good thing... Of course, just how he'd get people to help is the question. Maybe he'd use the money he had no other use for to hire mercenaries or something? Drake looked back to see if Agnar was still behind him. |

Agnar was busy picking flowers, specifically, roses, when Drake began to approach a town. Then he turned around, the old man shot up suddenly, ignoring the cracking sound in his back. "Oh! You sensed something? You say it's...powahful? Hmmmm?" Agnar began to approach using the quarterstaff, shoving five roses into his cloak, carefully. "Hm...I see...I see. Perhaps we can.....stock up on supplies. I do hope they have a bar. How I love drunken brawls. Hyuck! Hyuck! Hyuck! Ohhhhhh. Silencing is fun." He looked at Drake and then at the town that was close by. He could persuade a person or two occompany him, it wouldn't be the first time he had done such a thing. "Now...remembah what I said. If I happen ta dooooo somethin.....ya know. Go with it. It'll be fun." Agnar licked his right index finger and pointed it into the air. A colorful Parrot materialized on his shoulder. It opened it's mouth and let out a squack. "Ahoy Captain. SQQUUUAK." And then began to peck at it's wing. "No. No. No." Agnar said. "That won't work. I command you to combust!!" He pointed at the parrot on his shoulder and it exploded creating a colorful rainbow upon it exploding into a mass of feather's that faded rather quickly out of existence. Soon the illusion vanished all together. "Remind me to work on making it so I can bring that image I create anywhere. Oh well. I'll just do it in town if I want." Uh-oh... Drake thought as his hand flew toward his face after hearing Agnar say "Silencing is fun." If Agnar caused a bunch of trouble, Drake would become tempted to STRANGLE HIM!!! He had more restraint than that, he'd never gotten angry enough to actually do it but... It became extremely tempting when he got annoyed enough... And Drake had a feeling he'd reach that point very, very soon... And then Agnar was saying that if he did something, Drake should go along with it... Drake ignored that. It would depend on what it was really... Traveling with Agnar might not have been a good idea after all. Since the illusionist was outright obnoxious at times... Drake saw as Agnar summoned a parrot, which then was... Well, not quite as annoying as Agnar himself. And then Agnar made it explode with rainbow colors and then fade completely. Drake could already feel a headache forming... No, it had been there a while, he was only just now noticing it as it got worse... Drake finally spoke, shaking his head, "Please Agnar... Don't cause a bunch of random trouble, alright? I don't want to be run out of town by an angry mob because you annoyed the hell out of everyone... I also don't want to get caught in the middle of a panicking crowd because you took a weird illusion too far." He sighed. Agnar probably wouldn't listen... Drake began walking into town, hoping desperately that there wouldn't be any major disasters. The town was pretty small, and quiet as well, peaceful. Drake didn't really notice much though, he looked around for a tavern, since that was the most likely place to have people... This felt like some sort of cliche somehow. Oh well... Drake found a place that looked like a tavern and walked in... It looked pretty busy, unlike the rest of the town... So now what? He'd never been good with stuff like this... And he still had a bad feeling that Agnar would somehow manage to make everything become utterly insane. |

Portal had been just about to leave the town when she noticed something . . . peculiar. One young-enough-looking man and a oddly old one were walking together companionably into the town. She had not spent much time in the place, but had found the strange town pleasant enough. She had only ventured here with the motivation of a magical item. She was not like most adventurers, with their lust for power and money, but she was still curious enough to discover what a powerful force was doing so far out here. It could even be something Ulderian, though it was highly unlikely. She had bided her time here for a bit, resting and evaluating her choices, turning back or continuing alone, before she had finally decided that proceeding without aid was just the sort of foolishness a common adventurer would show. She was, however, dissuaded by this, thanks to a rather colorful explosion from the old man's . . parrot. Illusions. Portal had never been overly critical of any school of magic, though she wasn't too fond of the common necromantic practices, used to corrupt bodies and ignore the souls, or corrupt souls, or whatever evil intent, and illusion was nothing to be particular concerned with. She was still looking, her aura becoming white as she thought things over, when the two headed towards the tavern. How . . . unoriginal. New in town? Go to the tavern! Portal hoped they would show more sense in the future. "E-excuse me . . ." She opened the door of the tavern to follow them and attempted to get their attention. Her aura was still blue, though it was a slightly darkened shade. "I . . . was wondering if you might mind accompanying me . . . I saw you were capable of using magic so I thought you might be here for the same reason as I am. Are you here about the rumor of the magical item?" |

Agnar was cut off as he and Drake were about to enter the tavern. Generally, these were communicating centers between towns, before him stood a young women with blue hair, purple eyes and an aura that surrounded her that matched her hair color exactly. "E-excuse me . . .I . . . was wondering if you might mind accompanying me . . . I saw you were capable of using magic so I thought you might be here for the same reason as I am. Are you here about the rumor of the magical item?" "Huh. Rumors. We....sorta stumbled bout, just wandering...kinda were drawn over here. But sure. We'll help you find this magicky item." Agnar said examining the women's hair and eyes. She was shorter then him, even though he was hunched over, holding his quarter staff. "You got purple eyes and blue hair. I never seen dat before. On top of that, your glowing blue. Well, in any case. I am Agnar, and this is my traveling companion Gyrados Reigan. It is a pleasure to make your acquentse um....mrs? I didn't quite get yer name." |

Drake heard a voice behind him, and he turned around. There was a woman standing there, with unusual hair and eye color, and a visible aura. From what she said, she apparently knew about the source of the magic. Well... Something so powerful, it was quite possible that others might have found out about it. It was likely that the amount of power was enough for even normal people to feel up close. Which took a LOT of raw power. Then Agnar began talking... And then as he finished talking, he said something weird... He introduced Drake as "Gyrados Reigan" Drake of course couldn't understand it at all, and just looked at Agnar like he was crazy... Which he may well have been. Drake shook his head, and then said to the girl, "Ignore him, he's crazy. My name is Drake, Drake Aurelis. We're here because of the magical item, but not a rumor..." He then explained, "I sensed the power from a bit further away, and decided that it would be a good idea to find out where it was coming from. I have a natural ability to detect magical energy..." Drake felt slightly awkward, as if he was almost afraid that she wasn't interested somehow. He shook his head, and said, "Anyway... So you're here for the same reason? Could you tell us anything about it?" Drake really wanted to know what the heck could have so much raw power that he could detect it from miles away. |

Portal backed away only a single step as her aura flashed a vibrant red, along with her hair, but also her cheeks. The strange comments on her appearance, his asking of her name, and just the strangeness of the old man in general, confused and slightly flustered her. As the man originally called Gyrados introduced himself as Drake, she calmed her nerves and her aura returned to a pale blue. "To- To answer your first question, I am . . . Or rather, people call me Portal. I don't go by any other name. And . . ." Portal trailed off as her aura began shifting to white once more. She wasn't sure whether she actually wanted to accompany these people anywhere, or tell them anything. Drake seemed stable enough, but the old man was very . . . off-putting. She realized then that it would seem strange, and perhaps suspicious, for her to simply trail off and change her aura. Deciding that the man possibly named Drake was sensible enough to keep his unstable traveling companion in check, she began to speak. "Well, all I've heard are guesses, so . . . none of it is really reliable," Portal's aura changed back to its standard pale blue as she began answering Drake's question, "but some think it's a weapon, or a mana-pool. Nobody knows what it is, really. Whatever it is, though, I think someone left it there for a reason . . ." as her voice trailed off yet again, so did her aura return to white. This time, though, it wasn't to stop talking, but because she was literally thinking things through as she spoke. "You see, as far as I know, magical energy or items don't just manifest themselves, they are created. So, if whatever we're looking for is just lying around, somebody must have left it. That is what leads me to believe the area is very unsafe. Besides all the adventurers who will want it as well, somebody may very well be looking for it. Somebody who would want an item of magical power. Perhaps not afraid to kill for it." Portal's aura quickly flashed straight back into blue as she finished, her analysis of things ending with her words. "I don't suppose you would be willing to allow me to travel with you two? I fear how dangerous our destination is, and I would rather not face it alone. I can fight, but there is always power in numbers. I could offer you gold, if that's what you want." Portal didn't like the idea of enlisting the aid of the mercenary-types, but her own thoughts had made her realize how dangerous the place could be, and now that she had met people who actually felt the magical energy, she herself incapable of it in her current state, she was too curious to back away easily. As Portal spoke, her aura as well as her hair changed from red, to pale blue and then shifted from white back to the blue color untill it remained blue. Agnar's eyes widened as he saw this. He had never encounter such a thing before, it became apparent to Agnar that it was emotion based. "Interesting. Your hair changes with that der aura. Oh!" Agnar said and then stopepd himself. He remembered that him pointing out that had upset. "Sorry bout meh random outburst. They happen. Anyways, of course we'd be happy to allow you to tag along with us. I don't require gold or trinkets." For once Agnar acted serious, a stern look came across his face. It was a rare moment where he actually showed his true colors. "So, you yourself do not know much about the item or even so much wha. This could be a bit of a hastle. Worst comes to worse we teleport out. On another note, perhaps you possess enchanted items, know of magical spells. If you do, perhaps you could show me so I can study." He dropped the look and went back to his usual senile mood. "It would so swell." He said closing his eyes and giving a wide smile. "Reminds me of a story I told Drake here. Ohhh he knows it. I remembah it. I'm sure he does too." |

As Agnar said they would be willing to accompany her without pay, she couldn't help her aura from flashing yellow. They weren't mercenary-types after all, if they didn't care about the money. Her aura quickly switched back though, as she calmed herself. Agnar first began asking to see any enchanted items or powers she had, but then began talking about a story . . . Portal, by this, was thoroughly confused, but she decided to ignore his tangent and answer his original question. "I have an enchanted dagger and . . . Well, I summon creatures. The dagger, it isn't very powerful, but it can banish any summoned creature on contact, if it's weak enough. As for my powers . . . Well . . ." Portal didn't want to use any of her more revealing summons, summons that required much of her chest to be showing, so instead she chose to summon a spirit. She didn't delve into the minds of either Drake or Agnar, as it would be rude to surprise them with someone from their own past, so she delved into her own memories. She found her favorite spirit to summon, that of an old woman who had asked Portal to keep her company with her memories until she passed away. The old woman was very kind, and didn't mind leaving the realm of the dead to meet new people. She was about to summon her when she realized how public the area is. "Perhaps this is not the best place for me to show you what I can do. Ah, if you would follow me please?" Portal started walking to go around the tavern to its back, where the building would keep them concealed from any other citizens. She stopped abruptly, though, as she realized the two men could be slightly suspicious of her. "I- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so . . . secretive? I am capable of summoning lost spirits, you see, and it would be a poor idea to do it in front of too many people. Some would be frightened, understand, so it would be best to do it somewhere less obvious. Do you mind?" |

The girl's aura and her hair had been blue when Drake turned around but when Agnar spoke, they became red! He didn't quite register it until after he spoke and they turned blue again, albeit a slightly paler shade. His eyes widened in surprise, but he didn't take long to recover from the surprise, his expression fading to merely slightly curious. The girl introduced herself as Portal, and then her hair and aura color became white, as she appeared to be thinking. Then it returned to the pale blue once more as she spoke again. Portal said that though she'd heard rumors, it wasn't anything substantial. There were all sorts of possibilities on what it was... So it indeed was powerful enough that people had sensed its existence without getting close enough to find out what it was. Drake's ability to sense magic wasn't that common, even most mages didn't have it on the level he did. Even though he didn't even know illusionary magic, he was almost always able to tell if something was an illusion... Though not always what the reality behind it was. Not clearly anyway. The girl trailed off again for a moment, her hair and aura once more becoming white. She then explained why she wanted to go after it. There might be people looking for it who wouldn't care who got in their way... Drake shuddered. There was a possibility that someone might get their hands on it and do horrible things with it... There was no telling what could be done with something that had so much power. This girl apparently thought somewhat like he did... He'd had some similar thoughts, though only hearing them voiced aloud by someone else did he really think about the possibility. Portal asked if they'd let her travel with them, after her hair became blue again. She even offered gold! Drake shook his head, and was about to answer when Agnar interrupted. Drake was afraid that the annoying illusionist would say something that would cause him to facepalm... In fact, his hand reflexively attached itself to his face when he heard Agnar speak... But then, he was surprised by the old man's refusal of the money. Drake's hand dropped from his face, and then he spoke to the girl, "As Agnar said, we don't need payment. In fact, I have little use for what money I do have, I'm not interested in more. In fact, I was going to end up trying to use it if we couldn't find anyone to help..." He shook his head. He didn't much like the idea of hiring mercenaries either, many were little better than assassins, not discriminating on the job as long as they got the money... Drake noticed that the girl's aura become yellow when he gave his answer, before it faded back to blue again. Did it change according to her emotions? Drake was beginning to notice some sort of pattern... Well, whatever. Agnar then asked Portal if she had any magical items that he could study. The question earned a glare from Drake, who then became even more annoyed when Agnar said something about a story that he'd told Drake... He shook his head and replied, "Well, if you did tell me Agnar, I probably zoned out, unable to bring myself to care." He sounded slightly exasperated dealing with the obnoxious old man. Portal didn't respond to Agnar's strange comment about a story, but she did answer his question about magical stuff. She explained that he had a magical dagger that could banish summoned creatures upon contact, assuming they were weak enough. She then started talking about powers... And paused, before actually offering any explanation. Drake looked at her curiously, wondering what the matter was. After a moment, she said that it might not be a good idea to show them here, and started to walk out and around the tavern. Drake looked at her even more strangely, "Huh?" She then stopped, and explained that she could summon spirits, and she didn't want to do it with so many people around. She then asked if they would mind. Drake responded, sounding slightly unsure, "Er... Alright..."Even though her explanation made sense, and she seemed nice enough, it still sort of made him uneasy... |

A dagger that can banish creatures summoned from the other planes. It interested Agnar. He knew he had a one track mind for such objects. If it could be enchanted, it could be made a spell. Then she asked that they follow her tto behind the tavern. Agnar followed, still thinking about the dagger, but wondering why she had requested this. To be out of public view. It was then explained. "I- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so . . . secretive? I am capable of summoning lost spirits, you see, and it would be a poor idea to do it in front of too many people. Some would be frightened, understand, so it would be best to do it somewhere less obvious. Do you mind?" "Your a seyoncer then. Ahh...hmm...hmm...yes I see." Agnar said looking intently scratching his chin, all the while hunched over. "Such things are not in my proffession. This ollld man-" he said as he stood up straight cracking his back rather loudly. "Has heard many tales. Heard of rituals that could even raise the dead within a thirty day period. Very inteeeeeeresting stuff." He twisted his body left and then right, stretching. "We shall not be frightened, he's a dragonny man and i'm too senile to understand the concept of fear. Hyuck! Hycuk! Hyuck!. Oooohhhhh. Anyways, You need not demenstrate, but if you must, you may do so." He said, closing his eyes and smiling. |

Portal certainly liked Drake more than Agnar. The old man was a little too strange for her to be comfortable with, and she would have avoided him if Drake was not there. Still, they could help her, and she certainly needed help. They both seemed willing to see a demonstration, and at this point it would have been even more awkward to stop the whole thing. So she led them out of the tavern and around that back. As she had hoped, it was deserted. "Alright, this won't take long." Portal's aura became purple, matching her cloak, as she delved into the realm of the dead, venturing through her own memories. She sought the spirit of the old woman, Jaina Collet. A rune appeared on her forehead as she sought the aid of the spirit. It was almost like having a mental conversation, but no words were really spoken. Within moments, the purple aura surrounding Portal lifted off of her and into the air ahead. The light took no specific shape, as Portal didn't wish it to, but was clearly visible. Portal's aura, now that the purple had lifted off, was blue once again. "Ah . . . Portal dear . . . Am I on display again?" The old woman's voice was soft, not only due to her age at death but because Portal didn't want to attract attention. "Oh . . . I see. Well, look at you two. You know, you remind me of my husband, you do." Jaina laughed. Portal could feel, being the one having summoned Jaina, that Jaina was talking about Agnar. To help clear this up with the two men, Portal formed a small line from the floating purple light pointing towards Agnar. "He is Agnar, and the other is Drake. I'm sorry to cut this visit short, but I was merely asked to demonstrate my powers, you see. We can talk again, though, I promise," Portal told her. Her blue aura became pink as she smiled. She truly did like Jaina, but didn't want to take any chances or waste any time. The purple light began to fade. "Ah well, suppose I shouldn't stay too long, yes. It was nice seeing people again. Goodbye Agnar, Drake, Portal," Jaina said. Portal smiled. The purple light faded, and so did the rune on Portal's forehead, and eventually Portal's pink aura shifted back to blue. "I'm sorry about all that. I figured it would be a good show of how my powers work, and honestly it has been a time since Jaina spoke with anyone. Do excuse it. Shall we search for more people to join us? Or do you wish to depart?" Portal was slightly embarrassed, though not enough to change her aura color, about summoning Jaina. Still, it had been nice to summon her spirit again, and Drake and Agnar would not be surprised the next time they witnessed her summon a dead spirit to talk to for advice or simply conversation. She hadn't yet shown them what she could summon to fight, but to do so was a bad idea. While the Imp was a Faithful, it would still not be pleased if it was summoned for no reason other than to show off. Faithfuls had to follow every command Portal gave them, but that didn't mean they couldn't be very inconvenient during periods of time that Portal wasn't directly controlling them. She didn't want to upset any imps. "I personally don't mind waiting a bit longer, but if you are in a rush, I have nothing against it." |

Drake winced as Agnar spoke. So... Annoying... His hand moved toward his face involuntarily, and he was sure his headache was getting even worse. He'd rather be alone completely than travel with Agnar... Then again, at least Portal was here so that he was no longer alone with the obnoxious illusionist... Though on the other hand, that meant that Agnar had another victim and more to be annoying about. Drake followed Portal as she led behind the tavern, where no one else was there to watch. Portal said that it wouldn't take long, and then her aura became purple. Drake's eyes widened in surprise when he saw the rune appear on her forehead... And then, her aura separated from her, rising into the air... No, it was still there, blue, but the purple light was in the air. That was certainly... Interesting. Drake then heard a voice, an old woman's by the sound of it, soft. She asked if she was on display again. Then she examined the two (or so Drake guessed by her words, all he actually saw of her was the purple light) and said that one of them reminded him of her husband... Drake assumed that she was talking about Agnar, which seemed to be confirmed by the line that appeared from her to the illusionist. Portal introduced the two of them to the old woman's ghost, then said that she was sorry to cut the visit short but it was only a demonstration. Her aura became pink, and then the floating light began to fade. Drake heard the old woman's voice, saying that she supposed she shouldn't stay too long but she was glad to see people again, and saying goodbye to Drake and Agnar. Then she was gone, and the rune faded from Portal's forehead. Portal's aura changed back to blue, and she then apologized for the display, explaining that she thought it would be a good demonstration of her powers and that it had been a while since Jaina had talked with anyone. "Jaina?" Drake repeated back, slightly confused. Then, "Oh, her name was Jaina?" He assumed that she was talking about the woman's spirit. He shook his head, "No, it's fine, really. Actually.. I'm not even sure why you're apologizing for it." Portal then asked if they wanted to search for more people to join them, or if they'd like to head on to find the item. Drake thought for a moment... While it might be a good idea to look for more people to help them, he suddenly would rather just go on ahead. He shrugged, "I'd sort of rather move on, even though I know we would probably do better with more people with us." Then, he thought about something, "And then if there's more people, it's likely that someone will want it..." He glanced over at Agnar with an exasperated sigh, "Other than him...." Drake clearly didn't like the idea of Agnar having his hands on something so powerful. The old man would probably... Well, cause mass chaos with ridiculous illusions. Drake really wouldn't put it past him... He felt his headache reaching incredible levels, so much so that his pain would likely be rather visible as his face flickered with pain in the occasional moments where the pain rose even more... Maybe traveling with Agnar had been a seriously bad idea... |

As Janice laughed, Agnar did as well, embaressed actually, he rubbed the back of his head and gave a grin. He gave a guess that her pink aura meant affection. After she dismissed the spirit, Agnar spoke up. "Sweet ol' gal. I can see why your so fond of 'er." Agnar said then he looked over to Drake who had made a comment about having to travel with someone else. "Well if you have a problem, why don't chya speak up my boy. You sigh and complain quuuuiite a bit. You act like i'm the bringer of the 'ppocalypse or something. I havn't done anything yet cept 'nnoy you with a few jokes. Lighten up." Agnar then poked the ground with his quarterstaff. "You ain't even bothered to ask me why I seek magicky items. I study em and how their bond. Create spells ya see." |

Portal couldn't help but laugh at Drake and Agnar. There was obviously a bit of tension, but it really was funny. The two had obviously spent a bit of time together, and Portal could easily understand how he could wear on one's nerves. For now, though, he was simply rather . . . odd. He made her slightly less uneasy, mainly because of his reaction to Jaina. His reaction seemed . . . sensible. It encouraged her to believe that he wasn't completely mad. "You make spells?" Portal asked. There were three ways to be a mage. One either studied scrolls, practiced to make one's own spells, or attained them naturally. She, of course, went by the third method. She had met many who used either her method or the first, but only a few who used the second. "That's rather impressive, I suppose. Still, if you're an illusionist, as I believe you are, studying my spells won't do much for you. I am a summoner, and a summoner alone," Portal said. Having responded to the man, Portal turned back to Drake. "Sorry about ignoring you. We should probably get going soon. The less time we spend searching, the smaller the chance of getting to the source too late. If you'd like to get going, I'm all for it." Portal did a small toss of her hair and swung her shoulders a bit, forcing the majority of her cloak to hang down her left side. She stretched her right arm, her dagger-arm, and then shifted her cloak back into a comfortable position. "Well, I'm ready to go, if you'd like." |

Drake heard Agnar's explanation of why he wanted the items. Well... That was better than wanting them for pranks. But he hadn't done anything but sigh... And have a headache that was painful enough to visibly affect him. After saying something to Agnar, Portal turned toward Drake, and said that she agreed that they should get going soon, and that she was ready to go. Drake nodded, "Alright, I guess we should go now." He then said, "Follow me." as he began walking out from behind the tavern, and then out of town. However, before he got very far, he suddenly had a terrifying thought which made him stop in his tracks. He turned around and said, "I just had a thought... What if the source of magic isn't an item... What if it's some sort of creature?" He sighed, "It's unlikely, but if no one really knows what it is... I dunno, for some reason I'm thinking of something like something that was sealed away..." Drake sighed. "I suppose speculating on something like that is pointless, and it's ridiculously unlikely anyway..." He winced slightly, "I'm not even sure why I got upset about such a small chance." He paused, "Although, if such a thing were true... It would be more important than ever to hurry, wouldn't it?" He shook his head, "Whatever. Sorry about that." Drake then turned around and resumed heading toward their destination. |

"I doubt it could be a creature. Such things do not simply exist within caves fer people to find. I'm sure it woulda taken over a few people and what not if it was powerful enough ta be felt." Agnar followed drake and scratched his chin. "Why we're travelin, do you mind if I examine that dagger. You mentioned it bein able ta unsummon the summoned. It could be rather useful fer those things that get summoned to eat meh, like scorpions or rabbid badgers." He chuckled, he would be rather surprised if they took him seriously. He honestly was getting tired of them getting so annoyed with his additude, but they were good people, he would tolerate it. "Anyway, imma ready ta go. Can't be too far away ja know." |

Portal nodded towards Drake, having slightly shared in his fears. At Agnar's requests, she turned. "I . . . Well . . . I suppose it couldn't hurt . . . But . . . Do be careful with it. I was not the one who enchanted it, so if it were to be destroyed, or lose its enchantment . . . " Portal trailed off and reached down to grab her dagger from its sheath. "I mean it. I can't have this dagger harmed . . ." It wasn't as if she didn't trust him . . . Well, no, that wasn't completely true. She didn't really trust him all that much, but she also rarely let anyone hold her dagger. Still, she couldn't find a good reason to outright refuse to the old man without risking his anger. She handed it over to him, reluctantly at first, but then willingly. Meanwhile, she began to realize that they could enter dangerous territory at any moment, and could run into any sort of creature. With this, she decided it was best to prepare for combat or summoning. She removed her cloak, revealing her odd-looking shirt. The shirt had two small strings, one near the collar and one in the middle. They looked like nothing more than loose threads, but there was more to it. She put her cloak in the same sack that carried her folded tent and tent-poles, strapped to her back (previously hidden by her cloak, which she wore over the sack). Following Drake, Portal tugged at the two strings on her shirt. The one near her collar pulled a piece of the top of her shirt with it, revealing her neck and just a small bit of her chest. The second, near the middle of the shirt, pulled away the entire middle section of the shirt, revealing her midriff. In order to avoid any awkward questions or glances, Portal explained calmly to Drake and Agnar as she put the pieces of her shirt in the sack. "When I summon creatures, depending on what kind of creature it is, a certain area of my body is covered by a rune. The area just below my neck and my stomach are both locations that these runes appear, one for my imp faithful and one for my wolf guardian. In order to summon the creatures, the runes have to be exposed, so I have to remove the clothing that would cover them." Portal had explained this a few times before, and so was not embarrassed at all. "Speaking of my wolf guardian . . ." The area just below Portal's neck, as she explained, lit up with several runes as her aura shifted into purple once more. The aura again moved away from her, and formed a nearly two-dimensional circle. From the circle, the "portal" so to speak, a wolf stepped through. When the wolf was fully through, the portal disappeared, Portal's blue aura already back in place. "Bane!" Portal knelt down and hugged the wolf, who didn't seem to mind at all. She knew fully well the irony of naming a wolf "Bane," but she liked the sound of it, and felt it fitting. The wolf didn't seem to dislike the name either. "I know there are no enemies right now, but we could be attacked at any time, and I know you'll protect me," Portal pet Bane a bit, and then stood again. "Alright, now I'm really ready," Portal said as she resumed following Drake. Bane followed beside her. |

Agnar said that he doubted it could be a creature, it probably would have done something if it was. Drake almost remarked that if it had been sealed away, then it couldn't get free to do anything, but he decided not to continue that conversation. Even if there were a creature, how would it stay alive if it was sealed away? Well, it wasn't like it mattered... Which was the reason he didn't voice it out loud, it wouldn't have made a difference. Agnar asked Portal if she would mind letting him see her dagger. Drake glanced back behind and saw that, though reluctant, she handed it over. He hoped nothing would end up happening... Drake's gaze turned forward again as he led them both onward toward where the magic was coming from. He was slowly getting a greater feeling of unease as he went forward. With every step he took, as the magical power in the air got just a bit thicker, Drake realized more and more the sheer amount of power there was. He could tell that the source still wasn't exactly close, and then he realized that it was coming from somewhere in the mountains in the distance. The mountains were still a long distance away. It would take at least an hour at walking speed. He could get there in less than ten minutes if he flew, but he couldn't well carry Portal and Agnar... Well... Actually... He'd never tried to carry anyone in dragon form. However, he just somehow doubted that it would work out well. At this point, Drake heard Portal begin speaking again, and he glanced back over his shoulder toward her. "Hm?" She appeared to be dressed a bit differently now, having removed the cloak she'd been wearing to reveal a shirt which showed more skin than before. He was wondering why she'd bothered to do that, but then she explained that in order to summon creatures, areas on her body with runes on them needed to be exposed. Drake turned around completely and watched as she demonstrated, with some runes below her neck glowing. Her aura turned purple, before it separated from her, leaving the blue aura behind, just like when she'd called Jaina. It formed some sort of circle in the air, which a wolf stepped out of. The portal then disappeared... Wait a moment... Well, "Portal" didn't sound like a real name anyway. Had she gotten it due to her being a summoner? Well, it didn't really matter. Portal called the wolf "Bane" and then once she was done talking with him and petting him, she turned back to Drake, saying that she was ready now. Drake nodded, saying, "Alright." and then turned back around, heading toward the source of that insane amount of power... Drake still had an extremely uneasy feeling about this... |

Agnar intently began to study the dagger that Portal had given him for the time being. It was different for sure. It would take a while for him to actually figure out the mechanics. And then it would take even longer for him to create the spell. "Now, this could take a while. Don't expect spells right away. Ya know, it's hard work. Took me damn near three years to do that illussionary stuff and get the timing down fer everything." Agnar said still studying the dagger, after some intent studying, he could actually feel the power of it. He pulled the dagger away from himself. Portal went on about how she summoned creatures and all, it was interesting, then she mentioned a wolf. When she summoned him, she shouted his name at it. Bane. Agnar snickered. "I see what you did there." He muttered happily, ever breaking contact with the weapon. |

Portal smiled and laughed a bit as Agnar made his statement. She was glad someone, even if it was the the madman, had gotten the joke. She was starting to see now that Drake was rather solemn. At first she had assumed it was just because he had to be in order to keep Agnar from running rampant, but she was now starting to think he simply took everything very seriously. Bane circled Portal as she walked, as he often did when she summoned him with no enemies immediately around. "So . . . Drake, Agnar, how did you two meet? You don't seem to share much in common personality-wise." Portal was interested, but for the most part she only said it to keep the journey from being too awkward. No reason to be on a long trip with nothing to talk about. |

Drake heard Portal ask how he and Agnar had met. Drake glanced back as he responded to her, "Well, I had just finished killing off some bandits that attacked me, and he suddenly appeared, acting like I'd attacked them instead. I still don't understand that... That's not how we started traveling though actually, though he wanted to and I wasn't interested." He took a breath before continuing. "Actually, he helped me fight off some assassin... Who really wasn't that good at his job, and I could probably have fought off myself." Drake laughed, "So anyway, after seeing his illusions, and being left laughing by some of the things he did, I decided to travel with him... Not much of a story, huh?" Drake looked forward again and resumed heading toward where he sensed the power coming from. The power seemed like more the closer he got to it, and he had a chill down his spine thinking about the sheer power that whatever it was must have. Suddenly, he stopped, shuddering. "What... What's giving off that power?!" Drake sounded slightly scared. He turned around, "It's way too powerful! I doubt you two can feel it, but..." He shook his head, "The amount of power I'm sensing... It would be enough to affect someone who has no real sensitivity to magic whatsoever up close. I'm getting an uneasy feeling from here, and..." Drake paused. He didn't really want to admit it, but... "I'm not sure I'll be able to take the sheer amounts of power up close. As you can probably tell, I'm sensitive to magic, but more so than most mages... I'm not sure what's going to happen, if it's just that knowing I'm headed toward something so powerful is making something feel wrong, or if the magic itself is affecting me..." Drake suddenly chuckled slightly, "Sorry... There's really no point. I'm not planning on running away, and I definitely don't want to risk something so powerful getting into the wrong hands, but..." Drake paused once more, before he shook his head, "Something just feels wrong to me somehow... Sorry about that." He sighed and turned around, and then resumed walking toward the source, "Come on, it's this way." His feeling of unease continued to grow and grow and grow... Such power... What could it be? |

An hour passed, oddly enough, Agnar had been silent almost the whole way through, studying the dagger. Eventually, he stopped and handed it to Portal. "Here ya go." Agnar said with a smile, if it could be seen through his 3 foot beard. "I can make a spell outta this fer sure. Could take a while though, but I can definently do it. Oh, whass dat up der! Ahhh, I believe that is our destination. Yes sirry." As they continued up the side of the mountain, followign a trail. Up ahead lay the ruins of an ancient building built into the side of a mountain, the area enclosed by two stone walls. Three large decorated stone pillars about 10 feet from each other were on the side of the path leading to the entrance. One of them was downed, fallen over the middle of the path, broken in two. The entry way was fifteen feet tall, it appeared to be nothing more then a cave entrance in the side of the mountain. "Definently seems to be it." |

"Our destination . . ." Portal said, looking at the ruins. "Hold on, I can do something . . ." Portal stopped in her tracks, and once again her aura became purple. Runes appeared around both her eyes as, again, the aura lifted off of her and formed a portal. From it, came a tiny bird. "See for me," Portal said, and her eyes went still as she took instead the eyes of the bird. "I can see with this bird's eyes. I'll scout ahead," Portal explained, though she couldn't actually see Drake and Agnar anymore. Now she saw only a blur as the bird rushed to where she commanded it. It didn't take long, considering the bird's speed, until it was at the ruins. Portal had it search corners, but she couldn't find anything that stood out immediately. Nothing attacked the bird, and Portal couldn't find any enemies nor the source of the magical output just by having the bird do a quick scan of the ruins. To really find it, she would have to focus the bird more, but she would rather conserve her power to summon other creatures. "Begone," Portal commanded, and the bird came straight towards Portal as her aura went back to purple, formed the portal-shape, and the bird dashed into it, from whence it came. "Well, if there are any enemies, they're hiding, and that bird can't sense magical energy in the least, so I couldn't recognize if anything was giving it off from within. Let's go." Portal began picking up the pace. "It will probably be very difficult for you Drake, but we need all the help we can get. Are you sure you can do this? We could search for a mage to dull your senses . . ." |

Drake barely noticed the strange silence as they continued walking. The amount of energy he felt being radiated was absurd, and it was making him extremely easy, and seemed to have other slight effects on him. It was becoming a bit more difficult to go on. He seemed to be using more energy with each step he took... But, he kept on going, and eventually led Portal and Agnar to some ruins, which were at the end of the mountain path. Portal said something about that she could do something, and then summoned something else. This time, it was a hummingbird, and she said that she could see through its eyes as it scouted ahead. The bird rushed off, and after some time, Portal said "Begone" and then it proceeded to return to her and disappear. Portal then said that she didn't find any enemies, and the bird couldn't detect magical energy. She then asked Drake if he was sure he could do it. Drake hesitated for a moment before replying. He appeared slightly pale and sweaty because just walking was a bit difficult with the power around here. However, he said, sounding short of breath "I think... I think I can do it. It's tough, but I don't want to simply leave it alone. Neither do I want to go all the way back to town to look for someone to help... I'm not sure they'd be able to anyway." He shook his head, and then said, "I think it would be a good idea to rest for a bit though. We did climb the mountain to get here after all..." He walked over next to a large rock and sat down, leaning against it. "And... You're right, this isn't easy for me. I need a rest, moving with such huge amounts of power around for a long period of time... It's exhausting to me, for some reason." He shook his head, "I wonder if it's somehow related to how I can't use some of the spells I've learned, though I should be able to..." He laughed, "Though I'm not sure how it would be. Does magic just react strangely to me?" Drake then fell quiet again, thinking. Would he really be able to do it? Actually, being so close to the power was almost overwhelming as it was. Would he even be able to move when they got closer to the source of that power? He somewhat doubted that this would be easy enough that it wouldn't matter, otherwise someone else likely would have gotten to it already... |
