Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

Griffin Reeve

He gave a wary nod to the one that introduced herself, extending an unsteady hand forward with means of greeting; the action, in all its jerkiness, gave the term 'handshake' a whole new meaning. Withdrawing without ever accepting her hand, Griffin took a step back with an ever-growing frown upon his face, concious of his awkward motions as he trembled and fell apart before those that sat before him. Avoiding further expressing his inconfidence, an idle hand turned to his shoulder, stroking the back of his wandering companion.

"Yes... the morning. I mean to catch the ship to Ashoka, so that I may make passage from port to the City of Oracles located there. I... I am a mage... or rather... aspiring to be one. I hope to become an apprentice, so that I may better develope my ability." His confession was stammering, but spoke the whole and complete truth. It was all that he had now, was his dream to become great. He had taken great strides to be the magic-user he was at present, but it was not enough. For a Rionan, to know any magic was an accomplishment, but for a mage of Elenlond, he was still an amateur with a long ways to go.

Averting his gaze to the floor, he sought his mind for words to say to her, certain he had left the conversation off at an awkward note. It were not as though he knew her, nor were entitled to pleasantry, but the thought of leaving it off and taking his own departure weighed oddly with him. He needed an excuse to make his escape, and fortunately one was fast forthcoming. Quickly, but not quite quick enough to save him from a while of awkward silence and nervous shuffling of his feet.

"I... um... come from Riona. It's an island... way out in the ocean. No one does magic there. They're quite averted to it, actually. So it's... um... kinda difficult... being that... well..." He shrugged his shoulders, unable to think of what direction to head from there. All he wanted was to leave, feeling trapped in the situation by a sense of duty that shouldn't have existed. There was nothing tying him to that spot, so why couldn't he leave her? Why couldn't he just run away? It were not as though he were unaccustomed to running. In fact, he had gotten quite used to it.

More silence, before a familiar form caught Griffin's eye. It was only a glimpse, a darting shape out of the corner, but it was enough to cause him to snap his head upward to face the body as it weaved amidst the legs of people and chairs. He had only seen the creature once in the dark, and it was true his recognition was not at all in due to sight- it was due to the puff of breath brushed on his ear, and the tug of tiny teeth on his jacket collar, as Quinn made his memory known. The weasel-like critter that made its way in his direction now was an ally of Gambit's, if Griffin's own memory did serve. A name had been given for it, if he could only remember that much of the meeting- the sleeping furry bundle, retrieved from a pocket on the tiefling's sleeve. Indeed, this had to have been the same animal, for why else would he have come to a stop at his feet?

A glance around the tavern told Griffin that Gambit was no where in sight. Concern crossed his expression, having deducted now that the ferret had travelled back alone. Were it merely left behind, he saw no reason for the creature to be seeking him out, thus he quickly came to a conclusion and took the opportunity to pull himself away. Fetching the ferret from the floor, he made a quick departing bow to those gathered and spared only the words to inform them of his urgent need for departure. Without giving any details, he fled towards the doorway, brushing through it and never glancing back. 'He was sent to me... something's wrong.'

Striding down a series of alleys and lesser-travelled streets, Griffin made certain that he had left unfollowed before stopping, peering at the mustelid in his hand with an exasperated sigh. If Bandit was sent to find him, then Gambit must have been in trouble, and given what little he knew of the tiefling, the mage could only imagine a number of reasons why. "Alright... let's see what your friend has gotten himself into, then. I... don't believe I ever caught your name. And I don't know why I'm going to stick my neck out for you and him either..."

Rummaging around in his pocket, Griffin took out a corked bottle and held it out into the light. Contained within, dried and preserved from the day it had been severed, was the perfect paw of a red squirrel's foot. His hand held it firmly, as though drawing into it and itself into him, before closing his eyes and calling aloud in a whisper. "Ratatoskr."

An energy poured from Griffin into the object he held, channelling into the paw and anchoring there, before manifesting outward into a figure on the ground. Materialising before him came the familiar shape of a squirrel, but wrong to the natural order in that its size was far more massive, and a golden horn protruded from its head where one did not commonly appear. This came as no surprise to the mage, whom kneeled down before his summon, and set the ferret on the ground. "This is Ratatoskr. You will have to lead him to Gambit for me. It'll be quicker that way. Ratatoskr, I want you to take this message to Gambit..."

He paused a moment to clear his throat, taking in a deep breath and planning all that he had to tell Gambit before saying anything aloud to the squirrel. Confident he had everything planned, he began to speak, slow and purpusefully, to be certain each word would transfer clearly when Ratatoskr's golden horn printed it in gold on Gambit's nearest wall. "This is Griffin. I have sent you Ratatoskr- I am sure you can tell what his ability is by reading this note. I'm willing to help you, but I don't know how to, so if you have a plan, tell it to him. He will deliver the message back to me."

His gaze shifted from the squirrel to the ferret, emitting an exasperated sigh before nodding for him to go. "Be quick now. I'll be waiting here for Ratatoskr's return. There's no need to escort him back, he'll know the way."
