Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

Running, running fast, she had to escape, but they were right behind her. She could smell their blood pumping fast as they raced all around her. There was almost no way out of the little triangle they had put her in. Ropes and people were all around her now and she stood still, unable to get out. They would catch her! The sun was going to come up! No! "I Will not die!" She yelled out making a dash for it at the weakest point she saw. "NOO!" She sobbed when suddenly she was down on the ground, a much heavier strong man then she on top of her. "I DIDN'T DO IT!" She sobbed struggling as more men piled on her to keep her down.

Before she knew it she was being pushed up against a torch in the middle of the town square. She felt tears trickle down her cheeks. She could almost feel the burns already as they lashed her to the stake, the sun was about an hour away and she knew she wouldn't be able to get away, not with how hard these binds were. Man she was so pathetic! She struggled hard against it, unable to break free. Though shaking the stake, it was useless. Finally the people left her alone, and she hung her head, unable to move now.

They had her tight, secured, and she was unable to move an inch besides her head. The sun would come up in an hour and she would be killed, simple as that. She would be killed and there was nothing she could do about it. She thought back remembering every good time she had and she felt tears pour down her face. Ninshi, Drake, Shien-Zen. Even that little monster kid who she had never learned a name from. All of them were dear to her, and now they were no where to be found as she lay against a post in the middle of the town square with no escape.

Staring at the ground in front of her she thought long and hard, taking up half an hour of her last remaining life. Ninshi who she had first kissed as a Vampire. Her first love, who she had hurt to save. She had told him things she should have never said to keep him safe from Drium. Drium, who had violated her. Shien-Zen, who was her friend, who hated her in so many ways.

Drake... the one person she had thought she could love and not worry about, but who ended up breaking her heart by telling her he couldn't love. But was now her friend. She loved him still, but he couldn't love her back, so she had to give up on him. Then the little monster child. The one who looked like a bug when he was transformed, who called her Mommy because she had fed it while under Sandra. Who had yet to learn of the difference, she had run the last time she had seen him.

Her gaze flickered down to her own body, seeing the new clothes ripping in places. Each hole revealing scars marking her stomach, arms, and chest. The beautiful skin tight shirt had a hole across the middle section revealing three hug scars across her stomach. Dagger wounds. The pants were frayed and ruffled around the bottom of the pant legs. Her hair felt like it was a mess, and her eyes felt puffy from crying. Though they couldn't get red. She could never get red.

She bared her fangs at anyone who got to close and they scampered off soon learning to stay away from her stick in the ground, by the tree, as she awaited her death by burning. It would be slow, painful and humiliating as she sat there and burned, most likely screaming at the top of her lungs, but the pain would continue until the sun went down, then she would fully die. It was how she knew it would be. Taking a few steadying breaths she looked at the sky, seeing the pink on the horizon. Knowing it would hit her in her face the second it peeked over that horizon. There was no where to go, so she hid her tears, and held her head high. She would go out screaming, but she would not go out crying like a fool.

In the forests of Soto, creatures of many kinds have inhabited it for as long as it has existed. Still, nothing could have prepared the small village for what would be beset on them on this coming dawn. The sounds of a crowd, the smell of smoke, all were things that called to the great predator lurking in the forests.

The small village, with their captured "evil" thought they were eliminating a threat on this night; but in truth, they gained another. This new threat, would bring about their end. On the edge of the horizon, a faint shimmer could be seen over the tree line. Something disturbing the air as it moved. A low faint buzzing noise began to reach more sensitive ears until soon all in the village could hear it and began to look around for the source.

The buzzing noise grew to a roaring hum and the entire village were either pointing weapons towards the treeline to the east, or cowering in their thatched homes. Then, just as quickly as the sound came, it fell silent. Completely silent. No birds chirped despite the approaching morning sun. No creatures rustled through the leaves, it was as if nature itself was holding it's breath in anticipation of what was about to transpire.

Finally, the silence was pierced by something that sounded like a thousand demons screaming at once. That noise was broken up by the sounds of two villager's death cries. Something, had rushed paste everyone and pulled those two off their feet. Whatever it was, it had been big, and it bolted through the air with speed.

Blood flowed from behind the building and the men charged around both sides only to see the dark thing move in a blur into the air and out of their reach, vanishing behind another bunch of huts. Several of the men threw their spears over the huts in an attempt to spear whatever this was as it hid behind their homes.

Their was no sound and two men carefully moved around each side to see if they had felled the creature. One vanished around the corner, the otherwas passing a door to one of the homes when a vicious looking claw burst out the door and pierced his chest, dragging him inside.

Ja'buul had been learning, he was stronger now, smarter too, as a hunter. A few men pointed spears at the hut, trembling slightly at whatever monstrosity those could be, while others fled the village screaming. The great hunter burst out of the home to meet them, screaming its otherworldly screech as it's scythe blades dug into two more victims and it's scorpion-like tail pierced the third.

Once again, Valarie would see the great predator, having killed these victims, it noticed a familiar scent and looked towards the woman tied to the stake, the sun just about to crest over the tree line at it's back, It stared at her for a moment as if trying to place where it had seen her before.

Valerie heard a sound from the other side of town and she slowly lifted her head to look. Could it possibly be someone to come save her? She shook her head and stared at the men as they all ran to get the creature. She gasped when she saw something that she had remembered from a long time ago. That monster child? He was ravaging the town! But he had stopped, and was staring at her, she saw the look on his face and she called out. "Sweetie!" She cried keeping her eyes on him.

It was a dream come true, if he didn't try to kill her first. Which he might try to. But if he didn't hurry and get her off this stake she would be dead anyway. "You have to help me!" She cried out struggling against the bonds. "Please!" She cried out. "Sweetie, I know you remember me! Remember Sandra from the woods!" She cried out her gaze shifting to the horizon where the sun was almost peeking over. She had seconds maybe. "Please!" She sobbed looking frantic. If that hit her in the face..

She ducked her head down as far as it would go, hanging it over so that if he didn't help her in time it'd hit the stick first. But then she would be burned. Burned badly. Just then, the sun peeked over the top of the horizon. Touching her neck Valerie yelled out as it slowly expanded. Coming across her laid down back. She screamed and writhed the pain almost more then she could stand. "Please!" She sobbed the sun going fast, touching her back, pain splintering everywhere it touched. "Make it stop!" She yelled out tears streaming down her face.

As the great destroyer tilted it's head in contemplation, the villagers took this chance to try to strike. A poor move on their parts, for the beast was further angered by the distraction of it's thoughts.

Ja'buul's chilling, demonic cry resounded through the air once more and it's pincers spread wide as it's head turned towards the nearest perpetrator. A spray of something that looked like hundreds of strands of silk fired forth from it's mouth onto the man. As the captured struggled to free himself from the entangling, adhesive, web, he was pulled off his feet by Ja'buul rearing his head back and then swinging the person about. The trapped hunter collided with several of the other men knocking them down as the lines connecting him to Ja'buul were cut by the arthropod's pincers.

Ja'buul would not miss an opportunity when it presented itself, particularly not one he created. Charging forwards it began to stab and strike at the heap of individuals hitting wherever it could to deal the most damage. However, something stopped it's sudden bloody work. The many screams of the one it had been trying to recall. Looking back and seeing the fear in her eyes, Ja'buul remembered now, who this was.

"PROTECT THE MOTHER!" it cried out in it's multi-tonal shriek. Charging forwards, the insect hacked the post out from under the female with one scythe blade. Seeing the signs of burning flesh only where the sun fell, it didn't take much for the bug to understand what was hurting it's long lost associate.

Destruction incarnate, picked her up with it's two spider-like legs, and held her to the underbelly of his exoskeleton. Here she was safe in his shadow; but he now had to use his front scythes as a means to remain standing. With only two out of four weapons incapacitated, it decided that this fight was no longer in it's best interest. Opening jaws wide, the webbing grabbed hold of one of the slain, pulling it to his mouth, Jabuul's carapace then opened in back and in a tremendous burst of wind he took flight.

The monstrous insect headed straight into the woods, into the thicker parts of the forest it continued to travel until it had to land to continue to move ahead. Soon, he found a cave and moved into it's depths. Once fully sure he was in shadows, the bug set down the female tied to a stake. With a careful slash, it cut her free and took a few steps back. As it had traveled, the corpse it had been carrying had vanished down it's mighty gullet.

Valerie gasped when suddenly she was cut down, and then taken into shadows. She closed her eyes sure she was going to die. She had to be dying! The pain in her back was terrible, she couldn't even open her eyes. So she had no clue where they were or what they were doing until she was set down and let free. She fell onto the cold stone floor her whole body shaking. Her eyes shut tight as she groaned in pain digging her fingernails into her hands as she pulled her knees under her to get up, sitting half on her elbows.

The sun burn was horrible, the pain unbearable, but it was starting to die down as her natural Vampiric healing from the men she had once eaten a while back started to take it's affect, the blood making the pain slow momentarily. She slowly opened her eyes and pushed herself to a careful sitting position, her eyes slowly traveling up to see.. A huge.. monster, spider thing. Monster kid?

After taking in the initial shock of seeing the monster kid, she glanced around her surroundings, hands clenched still as the pain shot down her back randomly from the sunburns. She hurt, badly, all over. Where it had hit her had bubbled up, threatening to catch fire even. But she knew that if she got something to eat she'd be fine, maybe a scar would be seen across her back, but that was easily covered up by clothing.

Though not all scars on her body were covered by clothing. The white shirt she had on showed the detail of scars that marked her body, her collarbone, stomach, shoulders and arms were full of deep long gashes, healed, but deep. Her stomach also showed three wounds one of them a perfect circle, where a Dagger had been pushed into her stomach. She wasn't the prettiest Vampire in the world, but her face had somehow managed to survive any visible scaring, besides a constant frown.

"Sweetie." She whispered turning her eyes back to the monster kid. "Thank you.. so much." She whispered her hands hitting the ground again as a particularly nasty throb of pain laced through her body. "I'd be dead if not for you." She said looking up at him carefully, bent on the ground, staring up into the face of the Monster Kid.

The beast Ja'buul listened to her words and was silent for a moment before walking backwards towards the entrance. It let loose another shriek but this one sounded weaker than the ones before it. The beast reared it's head and its entire body grew pale, shuddering once and then collapsing forwards. Surely, the great beast had perished?

However, after a moment something seemed to shake it slightly. first the torso, then the neck seemed to move, finally the mouth opened slowly and out crawled the form of the "child". Naked and coated in a layer of unidentifiable slime, the genderless creature moved back into the cave near Valarie and sat on it's knees in front of her. It's glittering compound eyes taking in the features of her face.

"Why does the sun hurt the mother?" it asked tilting it's head slightly to one side. "Has Ja'buul done well for the mother?" it added still looking curiously at her face. It's face did show a look of curiosity and intrigue.

Valerie looked at him softly and smiled, watching as the boy came to her. So it was the monster child. "The sun hurts me because of what I am, I am a Vampire, and I can't go out in sunlight for it burns me." She said softly and reached out touching his cheek softly before pulling away her ice cold hand. "you see, I have no blood in me, no meat, nothing." She said softly staring at the child. "And yes sweetie, you have done very well, thank you very much." She said slowly trying to be as clear as possible. He didn't seem to understand much when she talked.

He had saved her, she owed her life to him.. again. How many more times would she need to be saved by a child? A monster child? A child who transformed into some killer spider. This poor child who ate meat, who had almost been conquered by Kaden. Or had he? He still seemed to think of her as his mother, so she was happy that Kaden hadn't been able to completely win her over.

But she realized that he had said his name.. Ja'buul? What a funny name. "Is you're name Ja'buul sweetie?" She asked softly. She had never heard a name like that, but then again, a lot of the names around here were odd. Drium.. Andromalius.. all odd names. Ja'buul actually didn't stick out that much more then theirs. She smiled slightly and brushed some of her fluffy hair out of her eyes wincing at the pain in her back.

Vampire so that was the name for these creatures that held no food. And the sunlight could wound them? This was good to know for when he next found one that opposed him during a hunt. When her hand reached towards the child-creature it flinched and leaned back a bit in worry, as if it had expected her to strike it. However, as her cold hand rested against Ja'buul's cheek he became still and calm. His false flesh did not object to the contact while he was within this form.

However, just as the contact had come, it went away. He continued to take her in with his glittering orbs that served as eyes while she asked him about his name. "I am called Ja'buul Keshriek. My name brings fear to those who know it." having said this he grew silent. The hunter was not certain why he had explained, or given, an answer; but he had. As it continued to take in the female it called "the Mother" it took a page fro her book and slowly reached forwards with one child like hand. It's finger traced over the lines it could see on her collarbone, shoulder, and then down her arm. "Your guise is flawed?" He asked unaware how else to ask, what these marks meant. Only knowing that they did not belong there. Ja'buul looked up to her eyes awaiting an answer once more.

Valerie smiled. "Well it's good to finally have a name for a face Ja'buul Keshriek." She said smiling at him. Then she felt his small finger trace her scars. Feeling the confusion in the touch. She watched him carefully feeling her back pain her again, but she ignored it. He looked so confused about it, her guise? Oh, so his form wasn't real.. and he thought hers wasn't either. She smiled again.

"Actually this is my true form." She said smiling at him. "And yes, it is flawed, I've been hurt in many ways before I met you sweetie." She said smiling at him softly as his fingers traveled along the crevices in her skin. "They don't hurt, but they mare my skin." She said slowly shaking her head touching the one on her arm carefully. Staring at the deep crevice on her skin it made. "It's not pretty, but it's me." She said shrugging and looking back at the monster child named Ja'buul.

She smiled at him carefully and stood up feeling the pain in her back, she fell back down to her knees. She whimpered softly letting the pain subside. So.. no walking yet. She bit her bottom lip and looked at Ja'buul. "Yes, little one. Right now I'm kind of hurt, but I'll be ok if I have some.. blood." She said softly looking at him for a moment before letting her gaze fall to the ground.

Ja'buul shook it's child-like head. "The mother is weak." Ja'buul was not mocking her or degrading her, simply stating what he perceived as fact. It stood again and began to walk around her when she fell, analyzing her back injury without touching her, and hearing what she had to say, before he had a chance to ask the question. He understood what she was asking of him, even if she did not realize that she had asked.

Ja'buul moved back to face the one he called "the mother". The sentient part of him seemed to be dictating his actions at this moment. Ja'buul saw the mother in need and wanted nothing more than to meet that need. Why, he did not know nor did he attempt to find out. Perhaps it was part of his insect nature to serve a queen, perhaps it was his sentient side in the guise of a young child looking for a mother figure to appease, in any case, her need was it's command.

It moved before her and sat on it's knees again. "I will get what you require, mother, you will become strong again. When Ja'buul is strong again, he will make your guise whole once more." Having said this, Ja'buul moved to the mouth of the cave and headed out into the sunlight. It was about twenty minuets before he would return dragging a young cougar behind him. Not a cub, the predatory cat had been a young adult. Now, it was simply a limp body being dragged by what looked like a rope made from silk. The creatures neck had been snapped but it lacked any other signs of damage.

Valerie watched as he walked around her slowly. Looking at her, saying she was weak. But he wasn't insulting her, she could tell that from the way he said it. It was a simple fact, and it was true. Very, very true. "Yes Ja'buul, I am weak." she said softly letting her head fall to stare at the ground. Then he stopped and sat on his knees in front of her. She smiled at him carefully as he said he would get what she needed, even though she couldn't recall saying she needed anything.

Before she could say anything about his last comment he was gone. She stared at the sunlight ground and slowly pushed herself away from the entrance, pain searing her back, but being unable to stop it she just kept going until she was pressed against a wall, staring at the entrance. Then he was back. A full grown cougar dragging behind him on a string. She gasped softly and crawled forward.

Broken neck, no blood loss, not a thing wrong but the fact that it was dead. She usually ate her victim alive, but this was amazing. It didn't have any wounds at all and she glanced up at him wondering if she should let him watch her eat. But finding she needed the blood to much she turned to the cougar, pushed the hair aside, and bit down.

It took a few minutes, but the cougar was soon drained dry. A shell of what it had used to be, devoid of blood. She pushed away the empty stiff creature when she was done, wiping the blood from her mouth that was dripping. She could feel the scars on her back from the sun heal slightly, not enough to actually make it feel much better, but she could stand up. She got to her feet and rubbed her shoulder. Human blood was what normally kept her able to heal herself, but animal blood healed her a little bit as well.

Smiling she turned to look at Ja'bbul. "Thank you sweetie." She said softly and bent down in front of him again, sitting cross-legged. "That was very nice of you to do that." She said softly. "Do you know what nice is? Or mean?" She asked gently. She had a feeling he had never heard the words in his life, and she knew that she would have to teach him if he was going to be any different then Kaden.

Ja'buul watched the mother feed with silent fascination. It had clearly done well, for she had accepted his gift, and so it felt the sense of accomplishment fill it. Looking onwards it watched her cast aside the empty carcass. There was still meat on it's bones. Ja'buul would make use of that in time. For now the mother had sat so he too would take a seat. A few feet from her, it watched how the mother lowered herself to the ground. Carefully, it imitated the action. Paying special attention to folding it's legs in the exact same manner.

She spoke to it, offering thanks for it's good works, and using a word foreign to it. The word sounded bizzare, but in some small way, recognizable. Nice was not something that Ja'buul had really quite experienced yet. However, it had heard before from a human girl that he was what she called Mean. Deciding this was relevant enough to share, Ja'buul spoke in it's wispy voice. "Ja'buul is mean, Cindy said so." it stated flatly, still looking upon the mother as if she were some piece of artwork. "No, Ja'buul does not know what these are. Will the mother explain them to it?" it questioned, waiting patiently for an answer.

Valerie nodded softly. He didn't know the word nice. "Nice is when you do things to help someone, like you brought me food, but killing is not nice." She said slowly and then frowned. That was confusing even to her. "Killing humans is not nice, killing animals is the same as being a human, so it isn't considered mean." She said slowly. "Mean is when you do something that is rude to someone else." She said slowly. She wasn't quite sure how to explain it and was afraid she was just confusing him.

"Well here's an example, say someone falls down on the ground, if you help them up that is nice. But it would be mean to kick them and walk away, that is very mean." She said softly smiling at him. She glanced at his position and then realized he was sitting the same way as her. He was copying her. How cute. "Being nice is sometimes harder then being mean.. but being nice is the best thing you can do." She said smiling at the boy. "Ja'buul how old are you?" She asked slowly staring at the boy.

He seemed so small, to small to be much older then five. But he had killed, he wasn't exactly human, and neither was she. But for all she knew he could be much older then her. He could be thousands of years old, and she was still only a few years older then she had been when she had been bitten. She looked at the boy with a smile on her face. "Can you smile for me?" She asked softly looking at the boy. She wanted more then anything to see that poor boy smile at her. Just to see what it would look like on the little monster child.

Her explanations were both confusing and flawed. Ja'buul did not grasp them. Killing humans was what his instinct told him to do. Killing animals was often why it told him to kill them. For they took from the forest more than it would provide for them to survive off of. They hurt it and he lashed out against them.

Before he had time to continue to mull over her confusing explanations of the things she called nice and mean, Ja'buul was asked a more confusing question. He looked at her for a long moment tilting his head. Slowly he processed the information and finally spoke. "Ja'buul is timeless. This guise has walked for three years." Staring at her longer, he was still confused by her last request. "Ja'buul will do whatever he can for the mother...but Ja'buul does not know what he is being asked. Show him and he might learn?" Ja'buul was earnest about this, a whine detected in his voice at the prospect that he could not do what he was being asked because he did not know what it was that was asked of him.

Valerie nodded slowly seeing Ja'buul look confused. She knew she had been confusing and knew it didn't help to be told by a Vampire to not eat humans, a bit hypocritical. His guise has been for three years? Weird.. But he didn't know how to smile. She grinned at him and moved closer to him. "This is a smile my dear." She said gently. "See how my lips move up in the corners, and show people my teeth? That is a smile." she nodded to him, still smiling to help show him how it was done.

"It makes you look very.. handsome." She said and glanced down at him. Suddenly she pulled her cloak off and put it over him gently. His little body must be cold. Especially without any clothes on. He didn't seem to have a gender, so it helped to keep herself focused on that just by keeping her eyes on his face, and covering him with her large cloak. "It's not a very good thing to run around naked.." She said softly.

"Naked people usually get in trouble.. tell me, are you a boy or a girl?" She asked carefully hoping he was a boy, that's what she saw him as anyway, he had a boy face, boy hair.. just not all the same body parts boys had. She smiled at him gently, and covered his front with the cloak better, her cold hand running along his shoulder accidentally before she pulled back, hoping he didn't hate her cold skin.
