| Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members. Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity. But how long will that peace last? Mmmm I think what'll end up happening is that the same characters won't be featured each time in each category. So in August if we have a bunch of females in Overall Best Female, whoever won probably won't be in the January/February round. But people who made second or third will be. See what I mean? @.@ Banners don't have to be fancy or anything =). Whatever you want to do is fine. |

Yea, it'll be fair that if you win in one round you can't be in it the next time. Otherwise it'll get annoying- the same people could just keep winning the same ones. |

See, this is why I was leaning towards stealing the awards away. One person COULD have it for a very long time, and that would make people TRY to get it away. It'd inspire some competition and maybe even some improvement; better characters, twistier plots, an attempt to paint a perfect picture using scenery, etc. |

I 'unno... I think people should be able to keep a token of the fact that they won. Just as a nod that they were good at something. But I suppose they could just write it into their signatures themselves. "Best Overall Female of 2009" =O I'm kinda liking the steal away plan for the encouragement of improvement. |

Well I think the steal away plan works great for encouragement of new writers except i don't like that idea applying to awards like "Sexiest character" because to encourage people to try to win that one will get us an influx of over attractive characters all trying to win the award. OR that will basicly be set in stome for one person forever. So maybe for the character based awards people can hang on to those (as in the ones that are pretty much determined at the characters creation) and for others the steal away style is used? |

The problem I see with people being able to steal the awards away is how do you steal it back? If you can't be in the next round there is no way to hold your title so you will be required to lose it. |

Maybe... we should give a "current" award, and then reduce it to a "then" award. XD Like, make a pretty shiny banner for the current holder of "Best Overall Male", and then make a dull one when they lose it saying something like "Best Overall Male: Summer '09" or something. And, of course, if you we use something like photobucket there's no issue swapping the images out. And... yeah... do we really need sexiest? |

In that case, wouldn't it be easier to just put the contest date on all, including the present one? |

Mrrr... Dun make this more complicated than it needs to be guys... There should be a date on each on each award thingy and people should be able to keep said token... I see nothing wrong with someone being able to hold a title for something for a long time, if they're continuously voted for that position. If said character makes it as the sexiest for X amount of contests, good for them. It's based off of who votes for them. Things are depended on the voter's taste, not necessarily the physical appearance of the character in question. Also, sexy is more than just looks. That's normally how contests go... You don't get cut off just cause you won. Also. I highly doubt someone will create a character for the expressed purpose of winning a specific category. If that happens... It is their choice and they run the risk of not having a character they want to write for or creating one that is lacking in other areas. In conclusion, keep it simple. If you get overrun trying to make things "balanced and even" sort of speak, you'll eventually cause the idea to crumble under the weight of itself. |

*Shrug* I think it depends on who you are. For me, seeing people win awards over and over doesn't inspire me to try to outdo them and never has. Sometimes, yes, but for things like Overall Best Fe/Male character, it definitely doesn't. In any case, it doesn't much matter to me. I do agree though - it's unnecessary to overcomplicate things. That just causes headaches. Um... Methinks this should probably turn over to the staff real quick, if we want to get them done in August sometime. Sooo... |

Joy! Four minor awards salvageable and one major! Also, nice cut. Anyways, who decides the best? Do people vote? How would they cast their votes? Is it a two-prong thing, with both votes of the mods and votes of the populace counting as two different systems? I think lots of public discussion about who's best would be... saddening. Perhaps people should cast their top five/ten to the admins (perhaps an account like "Contests" with a set subject), we tally things up that way, and then discuss the awards... Or, we could assign a fresh team of judges each year. |

Um... Evona... >.>; Two steps. First we announce the categories, and everyone will send in their nominations. Then we take the nominees, open up a poll or ballot or whatever and people will vote per category. |
