| Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members. Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity. But how long will that peace last? It had been three days. And still, Yumalinous could not shake the feeling that this was all a dream. This place was so different from the arid climate she knew: moister, woodier, with a different sky with different clouds and different colors. Everything felt too vivid, too intense, yet her senses seemed far more blended than normal, even for the visually-minded doe. It was as if another layer of senses had been placed over her own, causing her to see from her own eyes and senses, yet outside them. There were colors she had never seen before, sounds she had never heard before. And strangest of all were the threads of fate that she passed like wisps of smoke. She was following one of those threads now, seeing yet not seeing what lay ahead, imagining in details too sharp to be mere dream the places she would stop by and the people she would meet, as well as how she would appear to them. If she let her mind follow those threads often enough she would lose track of her surroundings for hours, only to be violently pulled back by something innocuous, with vague memories of where she'd been and what she'd done behind her. It was a very strange feeling. She had made such progress... since she had emerged from her home's dusk into this place's dawn. From the end of one twilight to the beginning of another, for another blue hour to pass. For a fall a chance to rise. Soon she would be close to the city the men and women of Soto called Madrid. And close by... were many threads. And between her teeth, one sharply came to focus, no longer smoke, but taut like sturdy grass... Someone was close by. |

Heavy hooves bore weight upon soft ground as the great beast ambled through bush and brush. Its strong and sturdy body was coated in a rosy golden coat that faded to a striking, however sullen, white as it came to her dirt-plastered feet. A large creature, but most definately equine, whatever breed it boasted was little certain, but its nature was of no ambiguity- a draft horse mare, built more for strength than for speed. Mighty and glorious, her features told a pitiful tale of neglect, as dirt and bramble tangled in her feathering, and leaves and twigs made a mess of her creamy tail and mane. Her tangled forelock covered the black star that was her namesake, painted naturally on her forehead. Her head bowed to the ground in search of shoots to nibble, with a bridle still wrapped about her face, the reins fallen from her back to drag along the ground as she went. Upon her back still lay a saddle, shifted off-center, as though she had merely been left as she was, freshly ridden. What would appear to any other as a clear case of neglect, the mare did not mind. Her mistress was not the type to abandon her, but a lady of much unfortunate circumstance that seemed to draw her away so very often. The last she had seen of the small woman that kept her had been before the last five suns, on a night of pouring water. She had hurried to the nearest shelter, an open crate, and slipped inside. The horse knew that when the water stopped, her maiden would return to her, as she often did, and had wandered away to find her own shelter beneath a group of nearby trees. Come morning, the rain had ended, and she had sought patiently the re-emergence of her mistress, but before the sun could properly rise, the crate she was hidden within was sealed and then hauled away. The woman inside clearly had not noticed, likely sound asleep inside. The mare had waited, not leaving her shelter for the rest of that day and well into the night. As dawn came again, she was prepared to continue to stand there, faithful to her keeper, if not for the curious ones that had approached her. Whispers passed, that the horse could not comprehend, but when the people left and returned with ropes, she understood instantly. Ears back, the mare snorted, and turned around, trotting into the forest. As the footsteps picked up behind her, so did her own, and she charged away with the group in pursuit. Even to her slower speed, the humans simply did not compare. Four days later, here she was, still wandering Soto's forest. Her head arose, ears perked forward as she came upon another creature in her path, far larger than the others she had since happened by. To her limited knowledge of other animals, it appeared to be goat-like, but grander in size, and with greater horns upon its head. For a moment the mare stood silently, calm as she looked the other animal over, before greeting it with a soft nicker, trotting cautiously forward with tentative steps. |

The dense vegetation provided the perfect cover for the oddly colored creature that darted through it on padded feet. He'd been running for hours but still felt it was not safe to stop lest he be captured. A small gold fox with little brown paws, brown tipped ears and tails, a brown underbelly, and a brown spot on his head, was darting from shade to shade. His paws barely making a sound as he moved. As he ran through the forest, his mind was blurring his reasons for running, uncertain now if he was running in fear from something or running because of the exhilarating thrill he was feeling at the time. The two became a blur and soon fear gave out to fun. Having forgotten why he fled, he continued to run simply enjoying the rush in his fox body. Tzel, the fox, leaped into the air a few times, swatting at butterflies playfully and simply enjoying running about. It had been a while since he traveled with Drake, or his studying under The Thief Lord, Drium. He had felt the need to move on. Time to chase other dreams, and time to just be. Thus, Tzel had come to the forests of Soto, his home, to simply float about with no goal to drive him forwards. This time was just as important as his adventures. Despite being fraught with the ever present danger of being noticed and captured, he came here to rest. Tzel pranced to a stop, atop a stone, looking out over the forest like a lion would the plains. Something moving in the distance caught his eye. In a small clearing far ahead, for an instant, he saw something that made his whole body freeze in wonder. His heart skipped a beat and his breath was held in shock and disbelief. Finally, Tzel launched himself from the stone bounding across the forest floor as fast as he could run. Mama! he shouted in his mind. It had to be! He had seen them! Her golden fur, just like his, accented with ultramarine. Finally, at long last, he had seen her! He had to catch up to her, see her closer, find out how she had come back, from wherever she had gone. She must have been here looking for him! Tzel scampered to where he had thought he had seen her. Darting forth he bounded closer, something was moving beyond the foliage just ahead of him. Tzel burst through the leaves with a yip, and skidded to a halt. He had made a terrible mistake, and once again his spirit felt like it had been shattered. Before him stood a woman, with tanned skin, hair the color of red clay, her ears looked human; but they were pointed ever slightly that made it possible that she was more than human, though it was not definitive. He was looking at her back so was uncertain what her face looked like. Still, from here he knew it was not his mother. His ears drooped to his sides and his tails lay limp behind him. Looking toward the ground, he was too disheartened to say anything and did not care if he had startled the woman, or the horse he just now realized was near by. |
