Valerie was sore, exhausted, tired, and overall just beaten up. She had managed to get away from Drium, returned back from almost dying from a monster kid and Kaden, and now she was just exhausted. It was midnight, quiet in the city with not many people roaming the streets. It was a relatively quiet this evening, she had found a little old building that had no one living in it and was curled in a corner alone. She hurt so much in every possible way. Her mind fell around to Drium, and what he had done to her in that little prison not far from here. Her gaze fell to the only scar on her body that showed out from the new clothes he had given her. A scar that ran from her shoulder all the way down to the tip of her middle finger. It hurt, it was sore, and it wouldn't heal. She had tried, normally human blood would heal that up right away, the only thing it had done was if possible, make it hurt more, like it was rebelling against the possibility of being healed. She had drained a man already, a criminal breaking into a house, saving a small child from being killed and the family from being torn apart, but she felt terrible. The wound hadn't healed, and had she been human she wouldn't have been able to move at all. Staring at the opposite wall of the empty house she pulled her knees to her chest. Drium had stolen things from her that could never be returned, but in return had given her new clothes, and the knowledge that she couldn't get rid of him until her training was done. So here she was, exhausted, in a shirt that fit her perfectly, man pants, and a new bear hide cloak, that fastened at the neck with a gold pendant. She ran her hand over this now and thought of what it had been like since she had transformed. For the first few years it had been ok, learning, living, fighting, killing. Everyday. Now though, she lived with fear of being caught by Kaden, Shien-Zen, the knowledge that Ninshi hated her now, and Drake would never like her like that. She sighed and buried her face in her knees, the hood coming up over her head and hiding her pale skin from site. She could easily walk around in the daylight with this hood on, but she didn't want to risk getting burned, she had enough scars as it was. So sitting in this house she let the time pass by humming. Humming was something she had forgotten how to do a LONG time ago, but now she was starting again. No, she wasn't just humming, she was singing. "Hush a bye, don't you cry, go to sleep my little baby, when you wake you shall have, all the pretty little ponies, blacks and grays, dapples and bays, running through the night! When you wake you shall have, all the pretty little ponies." She buried her face in her knees again and felt some tears fall down her cheeks. Her mother had used to sing that song to her before bed every night, and just the other night she had killed off everyone in her old village with Kaden. She finally succumbed to tears, sobbing softly alone in a dark room at midnight. |

Drake couldn't sleep. For one thing, with his enhanced senses, the place he'd tried to sleep in had overwhelmed him with the disgustingly dirty scents. Had anything in that place ever been washed? He hadn't bothered to ask for a refund... Maybe he'd just sleep outside the city in dragon form. Try to burrow under the sand or something if he still wanted to sleep once it was light out... But he'd decided against it. He'd just decided to wander a bit, he was too restless to sleep anyway. Drake had ended up wandering across a couple being attacked by a thug in a back alley. Why the hell they'd been back there, he had no freaking idea, but he had to help them. He'd been on the street outside the alley when he heard the voice of the thug. Well, outside the alley that had the alley... Threatening to do unspeakable things to the man if the woman didn't... Do what he wanted. Drake had rushed over to where he heard the sound coming from. The thug was still giving horrible taunts to the two people there, oblivious to the fact that someone else was there. Drake simply couldn't believe that the man was so stupid and stood there rubbing his temples for a moment like he had a headache. Which he did. Drake decided to end this stupidity, and he stepped forward, drawing his sword. To Drake, the sound of the steel drawing from its sheath seemed to echo, his enhanced hearing picking it up far more than you would think. He heard his own footsteps, leather boots on stone as he walked forward. Then faster, as he picked up speed. He raised his sword and slashed across the oblivious thug's back with a diagonal downward slash to the left, feeling the steel rip through muscle and crushing through bone with his slightly boosted strength strike. Hearing the breath escape from the bandit all at once as his twisted, miserable life was taken from him in an instant. Drake pulled his sword out and the mugger's body fell to the ground with a thud. Drake took his cape in his left hand and then wiped the blood off of his sword with it, before letting the cape hang down again, though it rested against his arm which was bent with his hand resting against his side. Drake sheathed his sword, the steel sliding into its sheath seeming to ring out just as before. Drake looked up at the man and woman before him, who were still shaking. Drake heard the man whisper, "Thank you." while the woman still seemed to scared to speak. Drake simply said, "You're welcome." before he walked off again, his steps echoing even as he heard the woman's continued sobs of terror, unable to process all of it, while the man whispered to her that it was all okay now. Then their voices faded as Drake went on to wander the streets some more. Drake's steps continued to echo through the empty streets, the only sounds apart from his own breathing and the occasional cat or dog, or a snippet of conversation from people who were up too late. However, at one point, Drake noticed something odd. On the ground there... Was that a body?! Drake walked over, wondering what was going on. He bent down to examine, his cape draping over his right side as he leaned over, and brushing against the object... Yes, it was a body... But something was odd. Drake took a moment to try and figure out what it was... Then, he realized. The smell. It had no blood. Had a vampire struck...? Drake shook his head. Then, he thought he heard a faint voice. A woman, singing. Just barely detectable from where he was, but there. Drake decided to come closer, that voice was beautiful. He followed the faint sound, trying to step as silently as possible so it didn't drown it out. Then, he got closer, and closer... It sounded vaguely familiar, but he couldn't place it... Drake got closer, and closer, and realized that it was coming from a small, abandoned looking building. Odd... The voice stopped singing then. Drake debated for a moment. That voice had sounded familiar... He wanted to go in and look, but... Suddenly, he heard sobbing. What...? Drake decided right then. He was going to see who was inside. Drake walked up to the door and opened it, then walked in. "Hello?" he asked, "Are you alright? I... I heard crying..." Actually, it had probably been too soft for the average person to hear, and she'd probably be confused. Drake walked in closer, and realized that something was... Odd. He could smell it, and there was also another familiar, strange... Power. He knew it, he just couldn't remember it right now... Then, he remembered. This girl... Was a vampire! Probably the same one that had drained the man he found earlier of blood. But... He couldn't help feeling that he knew her. The voice of the singing... Drake's eyes widened. It couldn't be! How could she have gotten across the desert...? But... Drake just had a feeling, it was her. "Valerie...?" Drake asked, uncertainly. "Are you... Are you alright?" Then, he noticed something. On her arm, a long scar... "What happened?!" Drake cried, as he took a step forward. Then, he stopped. The last time Drake had seen Valerie... She'd gone insane. She'd become someone else, become the vampire and lost who she truly was. Drake looked toward her for a moment, debating whether he should come closer. If Valerie was still insane, she might very well attack him. Drake spoke again, this time, his voice sounding somewhat scared, in addition to obvious, raw hope, "Valerie..." he said, "Is it... Is it really you?" Drake had missed her... Felt horrible with the knowledge of what he'd done to her mind, just because of something he could never do... With anyone. He couldn't help it, he had no idea why, the very idea just made him cringe slightly... Drake tried to dispel the annoying thoughts, and watched Valerie closely. Would she strike? Was she okay? How had she gotten here? All of these questions flew through his head... Edited by Drake Aurelis, Jul 15 2009, 10:35 PM.

Valerie sobbed softly when she heard footsteps outside. She looked up as someone walked in saying something about her crying. She had been crying softly how had he heard? Looking up slowly the hood fell back from her head and she saw.. Drake. He was staring at her looking confused. She pushed herself against the wall pressing herself into the corner trying to look as small as possible. "Drake." She whispered after he had said her name. Then she noticed he had seen her scar. She quickly moved her cloak to hide the long scar that covered her exposed arm. "It's nothing." She whispered hiding her face from him. She heard him take a step but she kept her face hidden. He was afraid of her, she knew this much, last time they had met.. Sandra had come out, and she had been forced to the back of her own mind, but before that. She glanced at her arm, and ran her hidden hand over the holes in her stomach. She kept her eyes downcast though, to afraid to look up at him. He must hate her for what she had done to him, almost attacked him, forced him out of her house. She hadn't meant to, but while she had been in such a terrible state, Sandra had taken over, leaving her to try and heal herself, while being battered by Sandra. Valerie took a long deep breath when he asked if it was really her. "Yes, it's me Drake." She whispered slowly turning her face to look up at him, her eyes, Valerie's eyes, looking back at him softly, tears still leaking down her face though it didn't change the completely pale colour of her face, just made her eyes look a little puffy from the salt water, and made them sting like crazy. "Drake.." She whispered and slowly stood up making sure her arm was hidden from his view, but he had already seen it, and she couldn't hide the exposed scars across her collarbone which was visible to him with this shirt. So she stood there, looking battered and worn, her shoulders sagging with exhaustion, the new cloak and clothes looking great on her, but they didn't do enough to actually hide the scars that marked her body. "Drake.." She said again as though she couldn't say his name enough. "It's been a long time since I've seen you." She whispered still standing there but casting her gaze to the floor. "You have no idea how much I missed you, and how sorry I am for.. for what happened the last time.. I saw you." She whispered her hands staring to shake as she pulled her cloak tighter around her as she slowly took a step forward her eyes still on the ground, staring at his shoes. "A lot has happened since I've seen you last, and, if you want to know I'll tell you, but it's a very long story, and I am so exhausted." She whispered and slowly sank to her knees slipping back into her dark corner, her eyes almost glowing in the soft light. "A lot.." She said gently staring ahead of her like she was hollow inside, and that's how she felt right now, after sobbing as hard as she could, she had lost all emotions, feeling just like an empty shell, nothing was there. Except for that hidden, tucked away love for Drake. Which she couldn't let out no matter what, because if she brought it up she would only be hurt again. So she had tucked it away where she would never have to worry about it again, but every time she saw him.. Valerie pushed that feeling away though, the fluttering in her long forgotten stomach, the pang in her long lost heart whenever she saw him. It was nothing but a memory now, but something that still happened every time she saw him. It hurt, oh man it hurt to push that feeling away, how much she wanted to just cross the room and hug him, cry into his shoulder, tell him about Drium, and the monster kid, and Kaden. About how Sandra had come out and killed her home village, but she wouldn't tell him unless he wanted to know. She would tell him if he asked, but if not, she was a sealed book. In fact he would have to pry it out of her, because she didn't want him to know what had happened. Though she couldn't stop the tears from flowing, the pang that entered her heart every time she glanced up at him. She couldn't stop the love from showing on her face, the happiness that he was finally back within her site again flicker every now and then when she looked up at him. It would flicker, and die, and flicker and die over and over until finally it slowly spread into a small smile. A tiny smile that was more like a grimace of pain, but a smile still. For she really, REALLY loved him. Ninshi.. felt like a distant dream, Drium, she wanted to die, for he had given her these scars, the horrible, dirty scars. Ones that hurt, even after eating a full grown man. She realized he must have seen that though, she had heard his footsteps coming from that direction, and before he could speak she said slowly, "And the man outside was breaking into a house, and I needed to eat.." She said softly her hands shaking. "he was a criminal, who would have killed a small child and torn the family apart, please do not think badly of me for killing him." She whispered her eyes staring straight ahead at his knees as she pulled her own knees to her chest. "Drake, I missed you so much." She whispered hollowly, the old clumsy sad Valerie was gone, replaced by what seemed to be a hollow shell of the old Valerie, she felt so empty, so tired, so sore. "I hurt all over Drake.. I have scars, lasting memories that will probably haunt me, and I still love you." She whispered knowing it would hurt him to hear but she had to say it. Her gaze shifted to his face keeping her eyes level, still full of the old Valerie's concerns, fears, looks, but now with a heavy lean on the sadness, she knew they must look black and sad, not to mention they were shining because of the recent tears, they also stung. So she knew she must look a wreck, her wild hair a mess from the hood, her black eyes wet, the room around her dingy, and empty. She looked like a small child, holding onto her legs as she looked up at the man she knew she loved, but could never have, ever. She felt more tears fall down her cheeks as she looked up at him. "Drake, I'm sorry." She sobbed putting her face in her knees and letting the sobs wrack her body again, having no control to stop them, or the strength to even try. |

Drake simply stood there. It was really her... He felt so happy. He wanted to run over and hug her, it had been so long, he'd been so worried... But he was still worried. After what had happened last time, how did she feel about him...? He'd hurt her so much, he hadn't meant to, but he'd hurt her... How would she feel about him now? He was so happy to see her, but he was scared that she wouldn't be happy to see him... But then, she said that she'd missed him. So she didn't hate him...? No, she was sorry for how she'd snapped back then... Drake shook his head, and simply said softly, "Valerie..." He didn't know what to say. Or rather, he did, but he couldn't even get the words together for something so simple right then... Valerie continued to speak, saying that so much had happened, she was exhausted, but she'd tell him if he wanted... Drake looked at her, she seemed so sad. So wounded, both physically and mentally... What had happened to her? Drake had sorrow in his eyes as he continued to listen to her speak. He didn't say a word when she explained about the man who had been drained. But, he didn't care... When it came to Valerie, other things seemed to matter so much less... He'd missed her so much, so very much... But he couldn't stand to see her in pain. It put him in his own pain... Then, she said that she loved him. Drake felt troubled inside when he heard that. Did he love her back? He couldn't stand her pain at all, now that he found her again, he never wanted to leave her, he wanted to do anything he could for her... But did he love her? Even for her, that one thing he couldn't do, that freaked him out just to think about... He couldn't. If he truly loved her, would he have been able to do it, to lose himself? What was love...? He didn't know... If true love was something he'd truly do anything for, no matter what it was, then... He must have been incapable of feeling it. Because he knew, what he felt for Valerie was the most he could possibly feel for anyone... Drake heard Valerie say that she was sorry, and then begin sobbing again. Drake shook his head, and walked toward her. He knelt down next to her and put his arms around her, and said, "Valerie... No, don't be sorry. I'm sorry..." Drake's voice was full of pain, and sorrow, all for her. Nothing else mattered right now... Even with his enhanced senses, everything outside was just... Irrelevant. He no longer heard the dog howling, or the other dogs barking. He didn't hear anything, except her... "I'm sorry I hurt you... I lost myself that day, with the pain of the knowledge that I'd hurt you like that... Even now, I still feel horrible... I'm sorry I couldn't protect you, from whatever harmed you..." Drake's voice was filled with so much pain, so much concern for her. "I'm so sorry Valerie..." He was crying now. Crying for her, crying for all the pain she must have gone through... He felt the tears drip down his face, no doubt they would fall onto her... Edited by Drake Aurelis, Jul 16 2009, 02:05 PM.

Valerie heard him say her name but she had continued talking. Until she was sobbing, then he was over by her, hugging her. She moved slightly so that she was leaning against his shoulder. He was talking, about how sorry he was, and then a tear dripped onto her cloak. She stared at the lone drop for a second before looking up at him. "Drake." She whispered looking slightly surprised. He was crying, and crying hard. She hugged him tighter, putting the cloak between them so that he didn't have to feel her cold skin. "Drake don't be sorry." She whispered softly her hands shaking. "What I feel for you.. I realize you can't feel back, and it's only hurting both of us for that... but I can't stop it." She sobbed against his chest. "I'm sorry." She whispered rubbing her forehead just under his neck, her cold skin touching the fire warmth of life. She shuddered and looked up at him slowly seeing his tears, pulling her hands out of the cloak she reached up and wiped them away. "Please don't cry for me, I'll be fine." She whispered feeling the gash on her middle finger brush against his skin as she brushed her fingers across his cheeks, the tears clinging to the indent it made down the front of the cut. She whimpered and turned to look at him, he had to know. She kissed him softly on the cheek, knowing before what it would cause her, the pang in the chest, the hollow feeling growing, her body starting to shake, but she stood up and undid her cloak. Letting it fall to the ground her body was illuminated for a second, the cuts beneath the shirt standing out from the rest of her skin because of the fact that the shirt was almost skin tight. Her collarbone was scarred with long fingernail and teeth marks, along with her stomach, her arms, her back. She sat a little hunched, because of the three stab wounds in her stomach, each one apart from the other one, so that you could tell that each one had been ripped into her, pulled out with a serrated edge and one of them looked like a huge hole, a chunk of her flesh missing, where the knife had been turned around while it was inside her, and then torn out. The shirt she wore illuminated this all, showing him every dent and curve of her body, the scar wounds only partially healed with the blood she had drank, but the fact that they were demon inflicted meant they wouldn't go away, they were a lesson, and she had learned it well. Never flirt with a Demon. Never egg him on, he will try and kill you. Or do things to you that will scare you mentally and physically for the rest of eternity. Valerie was shaking with the pain of standing up so she quickly pulled her cloak back on and sat down next to him, immediately putting her arms around his neck and sitting for a long moment her forehead pressed against the warm softness that was Drake, her feeling like stone, cold and boring. She wanted to stay like this forever, because she knew he would ask questions, she knew he would be angry. But he had to know that she had egged him on, but she would only tell him if he asked. If he WANTED to know how she got those scars, the knife wounds, and the bites and scratches. She would tell him the entire thing, if he asked. Whimpering softly she stayed close to him, her hard, cold lips brushing against the base of his throat softly for a second, feeling the pumping of his heart, the movement of blood beneath the skin, the supply of life for him, the basic thing she missed the most. The ability to bleed, the burning in her throat. She kept her lips there for a long time, but she knew she wouldn't bite, she just wanted to feel it. Her fingers flicked up and she touched the side of his neck gently. Not seductively, almost shyly. She wanted to know what it felt like, to have a pulse again. Closing her eyes she listened to his heart beat through her fingers. The steady Thump thump felt like it was running through her whole body as her fingers received it from his neck, and channeled the old familiar feeling through her. She wasn't trying to flirt, she felt to tired, to exhausted, but she was greedy for the feeling of a pulse. She rested her forehead against his shoulder and kept her fingers on his neck silently, her cold, almost soft fingers. The fact that she was still female that even though she was basically stone, she had soft skin. Whimpering softly she pressed her forehead into his shoulder and felt his warm neck warm her own body up like she was surrounded by him. "Drake, I'm so sorry I attacked you, but I wasn't myself." She whispered after a few moments of quiet. "When you.. rejected me, I felt like, no one really liked me at all. No one, I couldn't even have..." She trailed off and lifted her forehead so she could look at him. Her fingers still on his throat, her thumb on the other side, her hand hanging loosely from his neck. "I couldn't have you either." She finished slowly. "So I withdrew, I went blank, and someone else took over, you know how I act different when I get hungry, and I have to fight something, well I found out what." She said softly her gaze moving down to her fingers, wrapped loosely around his neck, feeling his pulse, feeling that steady beat make her feel alive again for a moment. "Her name is Sandra, and the day I was turned she was hooked to me, and she hates me, and..." Valerie felt tears leak down her face again. "She killed my entire home village Drake." Sh whispered shaking. "But I managed to get away alive, with a little boy who is.. not human." She whispered shaking her head. "But I met the man who changed me in the first place." She whimpered and kept her eyes on her hand that had tensed and she was pressing her fingers into his skin slightly. Making it go a little white there from the small pressure. Valerie let the tears fall down her cheeks and drip off her chin. "I met Drium Drake." She whispered. In her own mind she didn't know if it was before or after, but she had been herself, so it must have been after, but she had no idea. "Drium, put me in my place, taught me a lesson." She whispered her hand starting to shake, her hand around his neck going weak and falling off to lay on his chest, feeling the steady rhythm there as well. She gasped softly, staring at her hand as she felt his heart beat, listening to the rhythm, wondering how fast it was going. "Drake.. he did this to me." She whispered her free hand going to her collarbone to trace a scar there, her eyes still on her hand feeling his heart beat. Her hand slid down to her stomach, where she traced the dagger wounds. Then to her hand, where she held it up in front of him, leaving his chest, which felt like torture to her. She held it up so he could see the scar that went from her shoulder to her middle finger. "He hurt me, he did things to me that.. I can't even begin to explain, I lost something to him that I managed to keep through my entire human life." She whispered her hand going back to his chest like it pained her for it to be away from there. "Drake.." She whispered feeling the tears fall down her cheeks. "I'm sorry I ran away from you, I'm sorry I pushed you away." She whispered softly pressing her forehead against his shoulder again and sobbing softly. |

Don't be sorry...? What was she saying...? He'd... He'd hurt her... Then he hadn't been there for her... How could he not be sorry, how could he not feel torn apart inside? Then she continued to speak... Was he really incapable of feeling for her like she did for him? Was he really hollow, broken, unable to do anything completely except destroy, like what he'd done to that thug earlier? Was that darkness right, was he truly weak, incomplete? Drake felt sick. Hollow. Like he was part of a person, like he could never be who he wanted to, no matter how much power he had, it would never be enough, like a piece of his soul was missing and would never be found. He'd been slowly becoming less and less human, even now he suddenly felt an urge to go into dragon form, and he had no idea why. How long before he lost himself forever, how long before the darkness that had haunted his nightmares would destroy him, then destroy everything else? Was the darkness somehow who he really was? The thoughts were absurd, insane, but they wouldn't disappear. And yet, they only lasted for an instant, which felt like eternity inside his mind. It ended when he felt Valerie's cold yet somehow comforting touch. She was wiping his tears away. She said not to cry for him... Then, she kissed him. Just on the cheek, but still slightly startling. Suddenly, she stood up, and he looked up at her. The moonlight shining in illuminated her as she took off the cloak she was wearing, and he saw through her skintight clothes that... It looked as if something had tried to tear her apart. Valerie had so many cuts, claw marks, and teeth marks. What... What had happened to her?! He stared up in horror, unable to believe it. This... He hadn't been there to stop her from getting these. He hadn't been there, he couldn't protect the one he cared about most but apparently not enough... If he couldn't protect her, how could he protect anybody? Valerie then put her cloak back on, and sat down next to him, hugging him. Drake didn't even visibly react. He couldn't. He had thoughts in his own mind, worried about what if he somehow hurt her again... He felt her pressing against him, and he wanted to tell her to get away, before he somehow hurt her again, like he felt some sort of sickening certainty he would. But he couldn't. He couldn't speak, he couldn't even begin to. Drake felt her lips against his throat. What... What was she doing? He didn't think she'd bite him, but... If she did... He wouldn't try to resist. Maybe it would be better if he died. He couldn't protect anyone, he could only destroy, harm, despite all of his wishes. That man he'd killed earlier... He could easily have taken the knife away, stopped him without killing. But he hadn't. Without blinking an eye, without even letting the man know he was there, he'd walked forward and just slashed right through. Drake felt Valerie's fingers against his neck, and then her forehead... But he didn't care. He felt hollow somehow. It was like pain, like sorrow, like despair. But it wasn't loss. It was like realizing that something was never there. He felt like just by existing he somehow caused pain, as if he was something that shouldn't be. Then, Valerie spoke some more. He felt pain as he listened, explained everything, about when he'd rejected her, she had another personality named Sandra... Drake felt pain. No, he felt like pain should have been there, like he'd been so torn apart that pain was an alien concept. Hollow. Like not only had part of him never really been there, but like he'd lost everything else too. Drake felt nothing but this hollow feeling until she mentioned Drium. Said that he'd been the one who did all of that to her. Suddenly, the hollow feeling was gone. Replaced by pure rage, nothing but the desire to destroy Drium. He didn't hear her when she said that she was sorry for pushing him away, for running away from him. He spoke, his voice almost a monotone and yet seeming to hold cruelty and rage at the same time, though neither was directed at her. "Do you know where Drium is?" he asked. "If so, tell me, or take me to him." That was it. He began to stand up, not even noticing that Valerie was crying, or leaning against him. At this moment, he was nothing, nothing except a pure rage, the deepest desire to destroy Drium. His eyes had changed, the irises were golden, and the slit pupils were pure, infinite flames. Nothing could be seen behind the flames. Nothing. |

Valerie stared at him when he stood up. He looked.. angry. She stared in disbelief, this wasn't Drake. Or at least not the Drake she knew. She gingerly got to her feet wincing slightly as she looked at him. "Drake..." She whispered slowly moving forward. "Calm down hun." She said gently placing her hand on his shoulder. She moved it back though, afraid it would hurt him. Afraid to hurt him. "Drake.. what's wrong?" She whispered seeing his eyes were golden. His eyes had turned golden when she had changed into Sandra. He was either very angry or very upset. "Drake sweet heart." She said softly crouching down carefully as she looked up at him, prepared to take off if he lunged at her. She didn't know what else she could do, she was to weak, even standing was a hard time. She had just eaten, and still she felt drained, lifeless. He had looked lifeless, but that was when she was talking, now.. now he looked full of.. She had never seen him look so.. angry. "I don't really know where he is." She said slowly afraid of what Drake could do in his angered state. "When this happened we were by the Underground Prison.." She said softly. "Some ways away from a town, I never visited there so I don't know, but I could show you where we were at, and maybe that could help." She whispered afraid to turn against him right now. But she moved forward and placed her cold hand on his cheek, forcing him to look down at her. "Drake.." She whispered softly staring into his new golden eyes. She stared at him with her dark eyes, her tired looking, moist, dark eyes, into his flaming fury filled eyes and just kept her gaze there for a long moment. "Drake, I'm ok now.." She said softly afraid that was his problem. Maybe he thought that Drium would hurt her again, but she had egged him on! Drium.. She shook her head and then put her other hand on Drake's cheek staring him in the eyes. If she couldn't talk him out of his anger, maybe she could shock him. She just hoped things wouldn't turn for the worse if what she did hit home, he might actually.. She felt so selfish with these thoughts, he didn't like her that way! And the only thing she could do was stare him in the eyes, trace his lips with her thumb before leaning up as quick as she could, and kiss him. Hard for a few seconds before pulling away and staring into his eyes. "Please, don't hate me." She whispered her hands falling to his shoulders. "Please, I know you don't like me like that, I know it, but Drake I love you." She whispered letting her gaze fall to the ground as she let go of his shoulders slowly and moved back a step. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have." She whispered and turned away her body shaking with fear that she would cause another recession on him. He had looked so hurt when she had transformed, she knew the same had happened to him that had happened to her. Knowing they couldn't be together, knowing that he couldn't love her. Knowing that she wasn't right for him, that she could NEVER be with him. It made her body start to shake again, but something in the back of her mind clicked. She felt a hollowness take spot of her heart, it almost felt, physical. And in that hollow spot, she put all of her emotions for Drake there, that raw love she felt for him, she funneled it there. She put her hand on her heart and gulped and gasped staring at her chest. For just a second, one small tiny second, she had felt a.. but no that wasn't possible! She was dead, she couldn't have that happen, she was DEAD! But she could have sworn for a second, for a little tiny bit, when she had put her love for Drake over her heart, she had felt a heart beat. A tiny, forced beat, but she could feel it, her body trembled and she turned around to look at Drake her hand over her heart. It was gone now, and it felt like a distant memory already, but she had a lasting lingering feeling of that small little thump, pressing against the inside of her chest, in that little pocket she had made for Drake, that little pocket that stored all of her love, and if he were to ever love her back, she could one day open it, but for now it was bottled up, held inside, and kept to herself, she would never hurt him with those feelings again. Ever again. Her hand slowly slid from her chest and hung limply at her side. "I shouldn't have kissed you.. again, I am sorry." She whispered hanging her head in shame. "But, I promise, I won't do it again if you don't want it, and I'm sure you don't." She whispered her eyes slowly going up to meet his. |

Drake didn't even pay attention to anything she said that didn't involve Drium. It didn't matter. Then, she mentioned an underground prison. Hm. Drake said, in his strange voice that he used now that he was in this state. "Yes. Show me where it was." However, she didn't start moving yet. Why wasn't she taking him to destroy Drium? Drake's only goal at the moment was to destroy Drium, nothing else mattered now, his very being had become that desire to crush that demon... Somehow, nothing else registered. The reason for the anger was suddenly irrelevant, there was nothing there to make that connection. Valerie continued talking, and Drake was confused. Suddenly... She kissed him! It was such a sudden shock, he couldn't comprehend anything, not even the concept of anger, which was no longer there, though his eyes didn't change back. He didn't register when she spoke, he didn't comprehend anything for some time. But slowly, he seemed to fade back into existence. Drake came to just as Valerie was apologizing one last time. Her eyes were heading up toward his, and they would see green, with terror in them, before she no longer saw them at all. Not because Drake was closing his eyes, but because he was falling. Falling to his knees, the fear of himself he felt being overwhelming. The emptiness wasn't there, somehow it had turned into absolute fear of himself. Drake shook his head, and spoke, sounding confused. "What... What just happened to me?!" Then, he shook his head, "No... What am I?! Who am I!?" He couldn't understand. "I couldn't protect you, the one I care more about than anyone else, and care as much about as it is possible for me to!" Tears were falling down his face, "And yet... Apparently it isn't love, apparently I'm incapable of feeling love! I don't feel like I'm even an entire person, I feel broken! Like my very existence is twisted, wrong, will cause pain!" Drake shook his head again and then finally looked up at Valerie again. "I feel like part of me I thought was there... Isn't! I can't protect, I can only destroy! Just tonight, I killed a man! He was threatening to do horrible things to two people, but... I didn't give him a chance to stop, I didn't even try to restrain him! I just walked up to him, not even letting him know I was there, and slashed straight through him!" Drake hung his head again and slumped down, feeling defeated. No, he didn't quite know what he felt. Not quite hollow, but not like anything he could remotely comprehend was there either. Drake's voice seemed almost to have disgust with himself as he spoke once more. "And then, then I turned into... That!" He couldn't believe it. "I only wanted to destroy Drium, nothing else mattered! I was so hollow, that it was as if the reason for the anger, my wanting to protect you, wasn't there anymore! It only wanted to destroy Drium, nothing else..." Tears ran down his face. "I feel like a monster... Like all I can ever do is destroy and cause pain... I'm afraid I'm going to hurt you again! Like I'm going to end up destroying everything somehow!" Drake didn't know what he felt, but it scared him. He felt the fear itself, he felt anger, he felt disgust... But what terrified him more than anything, he felt darkness. The darkness of his nightmares, he felt it for the first time in reality, its presence, and his terror was absolute. If it somehow took over, he could destroy so much... |

Valerie gasped when she saw he was normal and then he was falling. She fell to her knees in front of him and gripped his shoulders as he shook with fear. She moved forward and held onto him tightly, listening while he talked. "Drake." She whispered softly hoping it would help somehow. "Drake, please." She whispered hugging him tighter. Somehow the kiss had woke him up. "Drake, I can't tell you how you're feeling, or what you're going through right now, because I don't know." She said softly holding him out at arms length to look at him. "Drake, I don't want you hurt." She whispered touching his chin and pushing up carefully to look him in the eyes. "Drake, you are not a monster, you will never be a monster." She whispered hugging him again. "Drake, I believe in you, I believe that you can fight whatever is happening! Please Drake, please." She whispered hugging him hard, holding onto him as though afraid he would disappear in a puff of smoke. "Drake, I love you, please you have to hold onto what is Drake, think of who you are and nothing else." She whispered holding onto him. "Please." She whimpered and suddenly yelled out in pain. Her chest, was burning. She held onto him tighter not letting it show, "Drake, please listen to me, I love you so much." She whispered holding on, but not tight enough to hurt, just tight enough to show she was here. She was scared to now. The pain in her chest, from that hollow space she had made for Drake, it was thumping. Hard. She pressed her lips to his neck softly and held onto him still, sitting on her knees in front of him, her arms tucked under his. She couldn't tell if he was hugging back or not, but she could tell that she was crying, large tears splashing onto his shoulder, and not for herself now, but for Drake. "Drake, you have to find yourself, you have to know, that you are Drake." She whispered softly her lips hovering close to his ear. "You won't hurt me Drake, because I realized, that even if I can't be with you, I still love you, and if you're happy then that is good enough for me." She whispered holding him tightly her face pressed against his shoulder, holding onto him, hoping to help him in some way. She couldn't bear to see him in pain, this pain caused her chest to hurt, and twitch. Her love for Drake expanding to fill her entire being. "Drake." She whispered softly holding onto him. "Believe in who you are, because you are Drake, the best person I've ever met in my life, it was the thought of you that brought me back, that pushed Sandra away, it was the thought of you that held me through what he did to me." She whispered tears leaking onto his bare neck. "Drake, please stay with me, please, don't go towards that darkness, don't turn towards them, look at who you are, and go towards it, no matter what that darkness throws at you." She said using her own analogy that she felt when Sandra took over her. That dark presence that was Sandra, hovering in the back of her mind, that darkness which was always threatening to take over, his eyes just now looked like they had belonged to someone else. She held onto him feeling her breathing even out slowly. "Drake, the fact that you're still here means that you are strong, that you are whole. Drake, I couldn't stop her from overpowering me, I was the weak one, so don't you ever think you're weak, don't you ever give up, because I believe in you." She whispered and slowly let him go, letting her hands fall into her lap tears still going down her face carefully. |

Drake listened to Valerie as she spoke, as she hugged him... Then she stopped hugging him and held him out at arm's length, looking at him. Then she pushed his chin up to look at her, and she did. Drake had such pain and fear in his eyes. He was still afraid... Afraid that he'd lose himself, and that demonic seeming force would destroy everything. He no longer felt like himself, no longer had the willpower to resist it fully if it did an absolute assault... She told him he wasn't a monster, would never be a monster... She hugged him again, told him that she believed in him. If only he could believe in himself... But he felt so horrible. He wanted to protect people, but all he felt like he did now was destroy. She loved him, said to hold onto who he is and nothing else... But who was he...? He knew nothing about himself, had no idea why he wanted anything... He had no reason to protect people whatsoever apart from just a driving need. His "parents" had never protected anyone, nor raised him to do so, and he'd never had any event in his life that told him why... Drake didn't know who he was, on much of any level. Why he felt the way he did, where he came from... He didn't even always know how he felt. Sometimes the line between what he wanted, and what that darkness wanted wasn't clear... Yes, that unspeakable evil darkness from his nightmares. He knew now, it had always been there, whispering into his mind every once in a while, mostly just annoying him, telling him things that went against the very nature of his being... Time was suddenly irrelevant. It felt like he'd been thinking for an eternity between every single thing Valerie said, and he heard as she continued to speak. That seemed like an eternity somehow, as he tried to process it. And yet, though he didn't reach his realization until after all of that eternity, it felt as if it had come on him suddenly, in an instant after he'd thought about it. The very nature of his being... That was how he thought of it, and now how he knew. Drake wanted to protect people. He had no actual reason, just that it was the very core of his existence. He focused on that, and he realized that... Regardless of how things had ended up turning out, he knew what he really wished for. Valerie had finished talking, and it was long after she said to know that he was Drake. And yet, he repeated it back... "Yes... I am... Drake..." He shook his head, flinging away the fog that had clouded his mind. "Valerie... Thank you." He said this with all of his heart, and he hugged her this time, putting his arms around her and feeling the tears that had fallen down her face. Drake pulled away again, and looked at her. "Valerie... You keep saving me, from going into complete despair. You are the one person I care about more than anyone else... You help pull me away from the darkness that is there." He was still crying, as he shook his head, "Valerie... If I don't truly love you, then I am utterly incapable of feeling love, because I know I care as much about you as it is possible for me to... And it scares me. It really does. And yet..." Drake smiled weakly, "As long as you're here, I feel like I can be stronger... You know... When you mentioned the darkness..." He sighed, "You have no idea how true that is. It feels like there really is a darkness there, calling me. At first, I only really felt it for what it was in nightmares, it tried to take me over, fill me with despair, let me become its tool for its desire to destroy everything... The agony, physical and mental, was absolutely unbearable..." He shook his head again. "But now... I feel it there. It will never leave. It will always be waiting for the perfect moment to strike, when I have lost myself enough for it to take over... I know it will." Drake shook his head. "Even if it's not who I am... I'm scared that it will take over, and I will destroy everything. Because that's what it will try to do..." Drake was still scared. Not of himself anymore, but that power he had no idea why it was there... |

Valerie stared at him while he talked, listening to him talk. "Drake, I don't think your incapable of love, I just think you're scared." She whispered softly and reached out pushing a small strand of hair off his forehead. "You need some more time, to grow.." She said slowly and looked away for a second while he talked. The darkness, he had it to? She stared at him for a long moment and then smiled slowly. "Drake.."She whispered letting her hand fall from his forehead to his shoulder again. "Drake, You have to remember, it will only take over if you let it." She whispered staring into his eyes, her dark ones on his green ones. "I let it Drake, and you can't do that! I know you're stronger then that!" She whispered staring at him for a long moment and then smiled. "Drake.. you make my heart pound, even though it's been dead for years." She whispered and then taking his hand she pressed his hand to her chest, letting him feel the odd fluttering that was happening in her chest. "I don't know if it's just my skin twitching in that way or what, but I opened up a spot there, and poured all of my raw emotion for you there, put everything into my heart.." She whispered keeping his hand there. "And it jumped... every time I look you in the eyes, it twitches, every time I see you it moves. I don't know what that means, but Drake, I don't think you have a problem with who you are, I think that you're afraid, and so am I." She whispered softly hugging him again. She smiled and let go of his hand putting her fingers against his wrist, feeling the beat there. "I like to feel you're heart beat Drake." She whispered staring at his open, large hand laying on her leg. She shook her head and looked up at him feeling embarrassed. "I'm sorry." She whispered letting go of his wrist. Oh how she wished for blood in her system, for the pumping heart, for her to age, for Drake never would. This hit her like a stone and she almost fell over, putting her hand to her chest. There would be a time, when he would grow older, get married possibly, and die. And she would be here. Living out her life, feeling this love for him, but having no one to fill it. Tears pooled in her eyes. "Drake.. do you think, that Vampires go to the same place humans do when they die?" She whispered reaching out and touching his cheek gently unable to resist it, she moved her hand down and felt his heartbeat in his neck. "I don't..I don't want to go on if I have to live here for eternity, I don't know if I can do it." She whispered her head falling in despair. "Drake, if you die..." She stopped and shook her head closing her eyes, the tears flinging out of them as she shook her head her hair flying around her face. "Drake if you die I'll die too!" She sobbed holding onto his hand and holding it to her chest. "Drake... I'm sorry!" She sobbed and looked up at him. "I'm so sorry." She whispered and then turned her gaze on him. "The darkness will go away when you want it too, Sandra has gone away for now, because I pushed her away, for all I know she's been resurrected already into some evil lady. Who is determined to kill me." She whispered with a watery giggle. "Drake, If you ever need to talk, I..I'll be here for you ok?" She whispered glancing up at him then staring at his chest again. "I'll always be here for you, always." |

Scared...? No, Drake wasn't scared of love. However, the one act that was so often associated with "love" that he got freaked out thinking about... He found the idea disgusting. Utterly and completely. He didn't know why, but he did. He knew that it was supposed to be "natural" or whatever, but... Okay mind, Drake thought in his head, STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS!!! He didn't want to think about it. Period. It freaked him out immensely... The seeming eternity of the thoughts that were awkward and ridiculously annoying in his own head ended as Valerie continued to speak. The darkness would only take over if he let it...? Maybe, but he felt like this darkness might very well take over even if he fought, if it caught him when he was weak enough... He'd never give in to it, ever, but he had a horrible feeling that he might not always be able to fight strongly enough... Drake was surprised when Valerie said that he made her heart pound, and put his hand right to it. Yes... He felt it! Because of him...? Vampire's hearts didn't beat, so how was that possible...? Was he... Curing her of being a vampire somehow...? But no, the idea was ridiculous... Wasn't it? He shook it off, there was probably some other sort of explanation... He didn't know everything about vampires himself. Drake wasn't sure what she meant about that she thought he was afraid, and so was she... He didn't say anything else though, and then she hugged him. Then she let go of his hand, and it fell down on her leg, with her fingers resting on his wrist as his hand lay open. She said that she liked to feel his heart beat... Then she apologized, seeming embarrassed as she let go. He wasn't entirely sure how to react... Then, suddenly, Valerie seemed startled by something, and he looked at her, concerned. He saw tears in her eyes, and was about to ask her what was wrong when she spoke again. She asked if he thought vampires went to the same place humans went when they died...? She then touched his cheek, and her hand fell to his neck. Then she said that she didn't want to live on for eternity, and then said that if he died, she'd die too. His eyes widened slightly. Then she was apologizing... And then she mentioned the darkness, and... Sandra. And finally, she said that she'd always be there if he needed to talk. Drake shook his head as he leaned forward to hug her. "I know Valerie... I know." he said softly, "And I'll always be here for you too." Drake then thought about how she'd asked about if vampires went the same place humans went when they died. Drake pulled back again, leaning away to look at her. "Valerie..." he said slowly, "I think... I don't believe that it matters what you are, as long as you have a soul, which I can tell, you do, then it doesn't matter what race you are or freaky curse you have, only who you truly are. But..." His voice was serious here. "I'm not human, remember? I don't know what I am... I seem to be further and further from human as time goes on. My senses, my reflexes, they're far above normal. I can make magical energy flow through me to enhance my strength or speed. That wasn't a spell I was taught. It's an ability I have learned to use..." Drake sighed. "You know... Even though I don't believe it truly matters, I am curious about what I am." He chuckled weakly. "I dunno, sometimes I just feel really curious even when I know it shouldn't matter..." |

Valerie took a long time to respond to him. "Drake." She said softly. She wanted so badly for him to love her, but.. it hit her then that it wouldn't happen. She stood up away from him, letting her hands fall from his wrist, her eyes looking like they had finally accepted it. "I'm sorry." She whispered turning her face away. She leaned against the wall for a long moment listening to him. He wasn't human, he had Dragon blood in him, that was right. She didn't want to bite him, but she knew he would never love her either. The odd fluttering in her chest stopped, and died. Tears leaked down her face, wishing they would come back, but that spot was suddenly gone. That section of her chest dedicated to Drake had disappeared. It simply died, leaving her feeling hollow again, lost, and even more confused then before. "I don't know what you are Drake.. and I don't know if I can even help you, but I will help you as I can." She whispered turning her gaze down on him. "I will protect you Drake." She whispered her voice sounding oddly emotionless, but not crazy or insane. It had finally hit her, he wouldn't love her. "Drake, do you still want me to show you where Drium hurt me at?" She asked softly keeping her gaze level, not betraying her emotion. She would let him think she had forgotten her feelings for him. Her heart had stopped fluttering, and she felt exhausted, tired, but it was night time and it wasn't to far from here that the Prison was. "We can get there before morning, and even if it does go over this cloak keeps me pretty well protected from the sun." She said softly and pulled the hood over her head. "He gave this to me you know.." She said running her hand over the material. "Yeah, after he was done with me, my clothes... he pretty much tore them apart, so he went and got me new ones, bringing me these." She said softly running her hand across the dagger wounds on her stomach. "I love the cloak, and the other clothes fit well." She said trying as hard as she could to keep the memories from assaulting her, to keep the tears from leaking under he eyes. But her chin puckered and the tears swelled around her eyes. She was very happy that she had pulled the hood up, which had cast her pale face into darkness, making it difficult for him to see the soft tears that were leaking from her eyes and down her cheeks. She shook her head. "So do you want to go or not? If we don't leave now we won't make it by morning." She said simply standing straight, her back like a pole, tears still leaking down her face, but she made no attempt to wipe them away, he couldn't see her face anyway. At least that's what she thought. She walked across the room, her heeled boots thumping as she walked. She passed him silently, the cloak swishing softly against his shoulder as she passed going to the door. |

Drake looked up at her, confused. Why was she sorry...? Was she crying again...? Drake felt a sick feeling in his stomach, like he'd done something wrong again and the world was about to come crashing down... Then she spoke, her whispering voice sounding almost emotionless. Had he somehow hurt her again...? He couldn't understand it... What was wrong...? Valerie said that she'd help him as she could, and she'd protect him... But the almost emotionless tone in her voice, and the tears she had really made him feel horrible, like he must have done something... Then, she asked if he wanted to see where Drium hurt her at. He just continued to look up at her, confused. She said they could get there before morning, and the cloak she was wearing could protect her if the sun did come up. She pulled the hood of the cloak up over her head, and said that... Drium had given her those clothes? After he'd ripped the first ones apart...? Drake was having trouble comprehending. He felt pain at how Valerie seemed to be acting, he was so confused... But he felt anger again, at Drium, for what he'd done to Valerie. All the clothes in the world couldn't make up for harming Valerie like that... And Drake began focusing on that, trying to escape the pain of his confusion. Yes... He would kill Drium... Valerie asked him if he wanted to go again, and he stood up, ready to follow. Focusing on his rage to escape the pain, the confusion... Drake began following as Valerie walked off. His boots thumped against the floor, and then they'd echo on the stone of the streets when he got outside. The streets which were as empty as he was slowly beginning to feel once more... |

Valerie realized she had triggered angry Drake. So she moved up to him and pressed her hand against his arm. "Drake." She whispered keeping her hand there as she looked up at him. "Please, don't get to angry with him, I egged him on on accident, it was my fault about what happened." She said softly and then took off down the road, the cloak billowing out behind her, her hair and face covered by the black material. She kept on down the street, heading for the main gates to leave. She wanted out of there, she felt horrible, but she knew that whatever Drake felt for her, wasn't love, and if he couldn't love her.. she couldn't be with him, it was only hurting them both. She walked on, keeping her hands tucked into the front of her cloak to keep them from being exposed. Reaching the city gates she turned back to see where Drake was. Not really caring though. She turned without another word and kept walking, her boots sinking into the cool sand. She headed down the road, keeping her eyes down, her mind blank. She knew bad things would happen if she thought of anything in particular, especially the man she was leading to the prison. She kept her mind away from him at all costs, instead focusing on the pain of the cuts across her body. Especially the one on her arm that liked to sting badly if she moved to much, which she was moving a lot so it hurt really bad. She kept up her quick pace, staring ahead, it would be a while for them to get to the prison and she really didn't want to get caught in the sunlight. She had yet to test out the cloak in the daylight, and didn't know what good it would do. She kept walking though, her face down as she let the tears spill. She couldn't stop them and they just seemed to be part of her these days. Tears and her were friends, the familiar stinging in her eyes, the feeling of the tears leaving tracks on her dirty face. It was all to familiar. Glaring at the ground she kicked the sand like it had done her wrong, but she just kept gritting her teeth together, letting the tears fall, being soaked into the cloak as she walked. She didn't say a word though, letting the path lead them to the hidden prison that she had been violated in. |
