| Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members. Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity. But how long will that peace last? Enter Elenlond; Turn the pages and tell your own tale. If you're already a member please log in to your account to access all of our features: |

NPC/Plot-Focused Character Name: Yumalinous, you-MA-li-nous (Nickname: Yumali, you-MA-lee); meaning: “Little Daughter Born on the Sunny Side of the World.” Species: Scimitar-Horned Oryx (hencefore Oryx, plural Oryx) Gender: Doe Physical Appearance: Image Personality: TBD History: Sent from Esiria to Soare... Racial Traits: Physiology: Oryx are equipped to survive in the desert. Their wide hoofed feet keep them from sinking into the sand, they sweat very little, their kidneys are designed to pass less urine, and they can go without drinking water for weeks or even months at a time. Their eyes grant them wide-angle vision, their lungs are strong, and their speed is swift. Oryx life spans are much shorter than humans, rarely living longer than 25 years. Yu Blood: The blood of all Oryx is bound by World magic. World magic, tied to the world’s birth, life, and death, is an ancient and powerful form of magic that the Oryx call “Yu”, after their name for the world, and in turn seen as indistinguishable from the world’s soul and spirit. Yu magic is a natural magic, allowing Oryx to do things such as walk without leaving a trace, walk as if with an internal compass toward natural sources of water, shelter, and food, and “feel” the bonds between themselves and other creatures and natural landmarks. Through Yu, the Oryx can also grant blessings, such as healing, though what the blessing is depends on what the blessed needs. Veil: To the eyes of humanoids, Oryx are veiled to appear like any one of the subspecies of Homo sapiens. The veil works actively to fool the mind of the observer, working beyond the senses to make the oryx appear every bit Homo sapiens. What subspecies they appear as depends on what will keep them safest, whether elf or dwarf, goblin or human, etc. The safety considers not just the immediate present, but whatever encounters the oryx will have with the observer or observers. For example, if an oryx meets a man who will grant them protection in the future, the oryx will appear as the same person both times they meet. If a herd of oryx are seen by a group of marauders and a town’s sentries at the same time, they may appear as well-armed and dangerous goblinoids to the marauders and as a caravan of humans or an aboriginal tribe caravan to the town’s sentries. An oryx may even appear as a subspecies that seems to compromise its safety at first: for example, appearing as a human next to a goblin camp, resulting in capture, only to be rescued by humans, and years later, later remembered by a fellow prisoner who can direct their herd away from a warband… etc. This protection is a blessing of the Goddess Evona, granted to the scimitar-horned oryx to protect them from being hunted into extinction for their prized horns. Besides serving as prized trophies, the horns retain a trace of World Magic even after being removed, making them useful in many forms of magic. It functions using Kos, the dominant form of magic in Esiria, granting it the dynamic weave characteristic of master-level Kos. Scimitar-horned oryx can choose to dismount the veil for any individual. Magic similar to “true seeing” will see through the veil, though it resists most common attempts to penetrate illusion magic. While in Esiria, oryx commonly appear as an aboriginal tribe that calls itself the Yu, and wield two scimitars on either side. First Five Abilities
