Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

He'd spent far too long within the midst of Reine; people were becoming familiar with him, and associating with him. For the sake of his own security, he could not linger there any longer. Within the breath of night, he had fled the sociality, traveling fast from the unwanted on feathered wings, covering more ground from the sky than he could ever hope to walk.

Natural wing-beats tamed the sky as beneath the light of his only companion did he travel, the looming moon ever faithful in its regular nightly watch. It gazed down from the darkest heavens as Nicholaus, its adopted child, flew nearest its reach, in terror of an evil that evil itself could not name. To think that he, a vampire, should fear something so simple as the possibility of friendship...

He truly was a coward.

Nick flew on, feathered wings still unrelenting, as the collared crow made short work of Reine, and soon the forest in its vast expanse. The night was not so young when he finally tired, descending slowly from his flight to alight on the ground that had only opened up before him, the forest receding only briefly to welcome in its avian with open arms.

He glided down gently, thin black legs extended before him to greet the ground with the claws of his feet. Silently, he met his landing, wings outstretched to soften the fall, before folding to his sides to relent his weight to the more than capable force of the earth beneath it. Soundly landed, he turned his shapely head about to observe his surroundings, beady red eyes peering around curiously. With the stately trot of a crow, he began his ground-bound movement, before stopping to gaze up at the beastly shape that loomed its shadow over his own head. Not difficult for anything, above the sad stature of a grounded bird, but this in particular would have even his true self at shame.

Feathers ruffled, Nick took a series of elegant steps forward, and then stopped, staring up again at the giant before him. In awe, he reared his head back, outstretching his wings in gaping amusement, as feathers receded to return to skin. Soon no bird, but the form of a man, stood before the grace of a great structure that, judging by its appearance, could be nothing less than the temple dedicated to the elements of water, earth, and air.

Nick, in true form, continued to crane his head back to stare at the roof of the building, looking no further than it took to see the stars beyond it. He lowered his eyes, taking in the structure itself, rather than the space that lay beyond it. In the darkness he could see clearly the designs that danced above its doorway, tokens to the elements for which it was designed. It was nothing short of impressive, but for Elenlond's reigning spirits, he would expect no less.

And yet Nick could not help himself but to smirk, boldly grinning at the irony of it. "The Temple of Nature... well then. As if that weren't awkward, I must be the most unnatural thing here."

The seraph was making his way through the air yet again, still surveying the area until he regained a sizeable portion of his strength. Until then, that's all he could do, really. However, knowing this, he was beginning to get rather bored. Bored, until he found himself now flying over a temple, and in the middle of a group of crows. He looked around at them, this was odd.

But it was only odd to him because something like this had yet to happen before. He did not pay them any mind, they were just regular crows, continuing on his way through the air. But something about one of the crows did stick out to him. One of the crows had red eyes, and he watched it stray away from the rest of the flock, and land on the ground.

As if being around a bunch of crows was not odd enough, the crow shapeshifted into an actual human like figure. He thought for a second to himself..maybe this was a demon. He took his chances and he folded his arms, slowly dropping from the ground, and landing a sizeable distance behind the man. Not too far, he would still be clearly visible. He would also stick out in the night because of the little glow around his angel body.

"Interesting skill.." He said to the man, his voice echoing a little. "Where did you learn that from?"

Nick alerted from his amusement with a blink, his body jumping to awareness without ever leaving the ground. With a curious frown taking shape on his lips, he turned his head to face his addresser, red eyes clear open in blank and expressionless innocence. His shoulder dropped back as he leaned his body around, allowing himself, without fully turning, to gaze at the one whose place remained behind him.

"Ah..." He was dumbstruck at first, his actions telltale of one whom had been caught in some guilty act. Yet, at the same time, he remained calm, with no outward sign of fear to sully his features. Indeed he had been called out with hands stained metaphorically red, but there was not a jury in all the land before which he could be tried. This man was innocent.

For a moment he stood silent, half-turned to his unexpected companion, before turning on one heel to face the other fully, both hands shoved in his pockets in a laid-back manner. Head tilted to the side, his blood red eyes peered the figure before him over, wandering over the many wings with a curious glance, before responding with a simple shrug. He came unfrozen with that act, at last parting lips to speak. His tone was indifferent, as though he was perhaps a sense of norm. Sure did he know differently. "Comes with the territory, I guess..."

Another long pause followed his brief statement, before he straightened his head. A flat expression drew a line across his lips, eyes staring solidly at the one before him. The meeting had gone amiably thus far, but Nick was not so certain that it would pursue in such a way. He was all too used to keeping his nature a secret from others, but not when a feature of his curse had been so boldly displayed. How this was to play out was still very much up in the air.

He might as well pursue a friendly approach, if he wanted to get through this at all. "To whom might it be that I offer greeting? Or is it fair to ask without first extending my own name?"

He watched the man carefully, almost like he was examining him. He was sure now that he was not supposed to have found out about the man's ability. This made him display some what of a smirk, as the guy turned around. The guy's tone was nonchalant, and that was likeable..much better than what he's been experiencing.

"With the territory, you say?"

A vague answer as it was, and definitely not the answer that Shien-Zen was looking for. Shien-Zen noticed the blood red eyes of the person first, then he noticed the pale skin. He shook his head to himself, closing his eyes and looking down, with his hands on his waist. He already had a bad feeling, after only speaking to the person for a mere couple of seconds.

"You extend greetings..to me, my name is Shien-Zen." After he introduced himself, he quickly went back to the topic at hand. "And..what terriotry would this be? I have never seen someone with such an ability in all of my years and living, so forgive me but I am quite interested."

"With the territory." He repeated his statement soon after the other first had. It was a good line, as he saw it, and spoke the truth without really saying anything at all. Certainly, it was vague, but it was short, and Nick, for all his wordiness, did appreciate a good brief sentence with a sense of tact. It renewed his delicate sense of confidence, as he greeted this stranger with a bold grin.

The other's introduction was taken with a nod of acknowledgement. That started it: Nick's concious habit. With an elegant bow- one hand sweeping across his abdomen as his body leaned forth ever so slightly, his other hand extending back- he greeted the other quite dramatically. It was much so his wary inclination, to put on a show of sophistication in the presence of a stranger. This one differed no more than any other.

"Shien-Zen, good sir, it is, perhaps, my honor to find myself within the presence of one of such great holiness as the highest among angel ranks. The name of the lowly creature before you is none other than of the night messenger, Nicholaus Finn Crowe." He straightened abruptly, a playful glimmer in his weary red eyes. Theatrics was perhaps his greatest pride.

But this other did so persist in pushing past Nick's barrier to that uncomfortable truth. The vampire sighed as Shien-Zen again brought up the topic of "territory", adamant not to let the subject go. He could see that he was not going to get away scotch free with this one, but he was not about to admit openly to his nature either. He had little practice in admitting his shame; the flavor still tasted all too bitter in his mouth. "Indeed... territory. Is the territory of my like; a natural ability."

He crossed his arms before himself, tilting his head as he stared at the other, one brow raised as he noted the other's expression. The reaction, after the angel's study of his own figure, was fairly clear. Nick knew well enough that that look entailed. "You already know..."

"A natural ability.." He repeated to himself, putting a hand to his chin as he thought about it for a second. His eyes wandered off for a few seconds, as he delved back into the history of his encounters thus far. This person had very similar features to someone he met before..it had yet to come to his mind who, exactly. The man spoke again, and actually extended a bow to him.

That was a first..someone who actually introduced themselves respectfully. But at the same time, there was something about him that he did not like. Everything has a trade off, and that trade off would be what determines how the rest of this night will go for Shien-Zen and Nicholaus.

"Lowly creature? No, no..that is where I will disagree. You are a very humble creature, Nicholaus..much more humble than the other ones that live in this land..much more humble..than the other vampire I met."

His eyes thinned, and now he was glaring at Nick. "You kill the innocent, do you not?"

"So you do know..." Nick murmurred, a half-frown forming on his lips. This sure was getting awkward, and in any other circumstance he would have likely fled. But in this case, he was already tired from running- albeit flying- and, in the face of an angel, felt his revealance justified. Who better to bare sin to than to the greatest of holy?

Yet Nick was troubled by this seraph, whose mind seemed keen in jumping to conclusions. Did being a vampire make him a murderer? He liked to think not, but this angel seemed to feel otherwise. Was the heavens not as all-knowing as he had been taught to believe? In either case, he would, regrettably, have to set this one straight on the matter- before he unjustifiably sentenced anyone else under the same false pretenses.

"You ask because of what I am, I take it?" He was calm, despite the accusation, unwavering under the heated stare. If this angel saw fit to cast judgement upon him for his defiance, then so be it. Nick would not deny himself a sinner, but he would not stand to allow others to take a fall for a crime that was not one. Something had to be said, if it took his existence to say it. "No, I have not."

Head raised in challenge, Nick took his own righteous stance. It was not with pride nor arrogance that he stood before this seraph, but of his own protective will. The position he assumed was not of a fighting nature, only of a unyielding one. He would not back down on his belief, no matter what retribution was promised him in exchange. Physically, he had hardly moved.

"As one who must feast on blood, I admit that I am forced to indulge, but I take no pleasure in it. Nor do I take lives. A human body can spare so much blood, it is unnecessary that I take all of it, as my dame had done to me. This... this is not a sin. This before you, this wretched creature, is a curse." He spoke boldy, and bravely, with his own eyes narrowed in determination. As much as he was passive, he would not simply roll over. This was not his choice, nor was it the choice for many other vampires, and he would be further damned if he allowed others like himself to be condemned for something beyond their control.

"I will not deny that I am a sinner... I have ruined but one innocent life. But that was as a man, and to this day I still punish myself for it, repaying my debt to her by continuing with this cursed life. I ask that you do not kill me, seraphim, because that would be a blessing that this damned soul does not deserve."

For once, the would be evildoer showed some kind of..regret for the things they've done in the past. He listened to Nick's story, raising an eyebrow as he claimed to not be a murderer. This would be interesting to Shien-Zen..he would get to learn something more about vampires that he did not know before. That even vampires have feelings..and vampires can be hurt.

One thing Shien-Zen forgot was that vampires were human's at one point too, but this story reminded him. He kneeled his head and he closed his eyes as Nick continued to speak, he did not know what to think anymore. Everything about vampires that he knew was proven wrong in a matter of minutes. Shien-Zen may be a seraph, the highest of all angel hierarchy..

But that does not mean he isn't open to learning. Though Nick hadn't physically moved at all, his tone showed Nick's dispotion had completely changed. The story was a little sadening to him, however. His glare slowly shifted to a frown, and he opened his eyes to look at Nick when he finished speaking. He was a bit confused, not knowing whether to attack the vampire or not..he had to learn a bit more before making a decision.

"Nicholaus...I am..sorry to hear what happened to you. However, in essence, it is your own doing for being unfaithful to your significant other." He was showing an emotion he rarely showed, sorrow. "But I cannot punish someone who punishes themselves everyday. You are a...good vampire."

With the other's compliance, Nick relaxed just a little. A heavy sigh blew past his lips as his guard came down, the fire in his own eyes dying back into a quiet crimson sea. "Thank you, Shien-Zen..."

Atleast the other understood Nick, although it made him particularly uncomfortable that the other deducted the affair so accurately from Nick's purposefully vague words. It was a stretch for most to come to that conclusion based off of what he had said- his turning could have been an unwilling attack, after all. But then, how else would he, a naturally non-harmful man, have hurt another? Perhaps this angel was wiser than first thought. In any case, he responded again, but with a frown. "I'm surprised you picked up on it... for all I said, I had not said much."

His muscles relaxed further, all sign of threat taking flight from his body as he gazed on at the angel with tired eyes. If not for his sin, he would have pleaded Shien-Zen to take his life, to grant him the rest that he so longingly desired. But he could not succumb to that wish; he had a curse to endure, as repercussion for his selfish acts.

As tired as he was, however, Nick still had a fight to stand for, as well as a point to make. While Shien-Zen had taken his story for its word, there were others left to condemn for their race, and Nick would not have any of it. He had to be certain that the angel understood that it was not right. A wonder that, having to tell an angel what was right. "Shien... Shien-Zen... I ask that you not judge any other by his or her race. There are souls left in cursed beings such as I, some just as remorseful. If you can, help them... but do not damn them. This isn't our fault, nor our choice. Some of us just want to live the lives that were taken from us, and to repent for deeds done wrong. Will you be fair to them? For this tired old vampire?"

A smile drew its way onto his expression with his last word. With a look around, he turned back to the temple ahead, and looked to the sky above it with a sigh. High above, beams of light gathered in preparation for the dawn, and Nick knew he would have to move quickly. Turning back to Shien-Zen, he excused himself with a respectful nod, and started toward the temple that loomed before him. It was the soonest means of shelter from the sun's burning light. "You'll have to excuse me, but I must return to my darkness now, so that I may continue this cursed existance of mine another day."

With that, he strode into the temple without another word.

He could tell that Nick was a bit tensed at what Shien-Zen's response would be to his request. His body relaxing and sighing made it seem like a heavy load was just lifted off of his back, and that heavy load was him telling Nick that he would not attack him. This is another person he managed to make happy somehow, and inside, that made him happy inside as well.

"You are welcome, Nicholaus. I may be harsh at times..but I just do what I feel is right. And I am very good at taking pieces from a story and putting them together, so you should not feel suprised."

A small smile made it's way to his face, but then Nick opened his mouth to speak again. The smile slowly faded as he listened to Nick. Apparently, even though Nick spared his life, there was something more that he wanted..he wanted Nick to spare ALL of the vampire's life. But his expression did not turn into a glare, rather into a straight face.

"I suppose because of the first question I asked, you assume I judge by one's race. If that were the case, I would go around, killing random humans, because I would assume just because one human is bad, they are all bad. However, I do not judge based on race. I will always ask what one being has done, and based on their response, I will continue with that one being."

He saw Nick was preparing to enter the temple, and supposed that this was the best time to begin to leave. His wings spread, and he slowly rose backwards into the air.

"Just like how today you quickly told me you do not kill the innocent..I knew you were telling the truth. But not all vampire's answer the same, Nicholaus. The one's that don not...will be punished."
