Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

Finally, a chance to relax.

Rohriel found little time to wander these days. His position demanded his presence both within and outside of his country, constantly alight with activity and warfare. Although now, camped out upon the Obsidian planes, the man found solace in the night sky. The moon stood high in the night, reflecting the light from the sun and providing a suitable vision for all creatures; but not so selfish as to steal all the glory from the stars. The mood was serene, calming. Even the Tainted found it comforting. For a few brief moments, Rohriel allowed himself to relax, absorbed by the wild winds of the peaceful fields.

While without his armor, the man was imposing none-the-less. He still carried the massive sword, Durnadal, on his back, and his grey skin was a curiosity. Barely human, the man stood beyond seven feet in height, yet he was clad in no abnormal fashion, sporting a black smattering of clothing - coat, tunic, and pants with a pair of thick boots, all meant for the traveling sort. It all contrasted nicely with the stalk white hair and beard, each a peculiarity in their own right. The last detail, one of even greater interest, were his eyes - both aglow with a red hue.

Still, with the aura of a darker being about him, Rohriel was at peace - and he gave off such an air. Approachable? Mayhaps, but still only the strong willed found his presence bearable.

And it took an even stronger presence to stand in the presence of something that seemed so perfect, and so holy. Not speaking a god, or goddess..but rather of an angel, and to be exact, a Seraph. With all six wings spread, Shien-Zen soared high through the air, getting a view of the new land that he happened to grace. He looked down below him, everything seemed pretty plain. Grass..trees, and it was night. Because he was an angel he stuck out, flying through the air in the middle of the night. The only thing that stuck out to him as he looked down was the obscenely tall figure that rested on the plains. He raised an eyebrow, stopped moving through the air and just floated there, staring down at the guy, wondering if he should investigate..

"Harumph." Rohriel grunted as the figure came within sight. His eyes focused on the hovering image of darkness. It was impossible to make out the being above, but it was more than enough that the creature could fly. Perhaps a moment alone was too much to ask. Not that he possessed any leeway to ask for such a favor; with his deeds, it was a wonder he had received all this time already. Still, he had no desire to fight this night, nor any, really, but if he could avoid just this one encounter. Well. That would just make his day. Still, Rohriel was never one to take foolish chances.

The sound of steel-on-leather echoed over the field as the hulk of a man reached back and brandished Durnadal from the sheath, the massive blade glinting within the light of the mood. He kept the weapon in one hand, leaving the other free for now. In a pointed manner, Rohriel kept the weapon pointed low, at the ground. Best not to upset his guest.

"Are you going to stare all night?" He called out, his voice a deep, low base that spoke of power. "I would rather you move on, or come closer. Either would expedite our interaction." Two eyes of red focused on the form, watching. Waiting.

He supposed it was the other individual's turn to act.

He watched the figure pull out the weapon. He was spotted, and he hoped that wouldn't happen so soon. He thought for a second, if it was okay for him to land and speak with the guy. He was not quite ready to defend himself against a worthy opponent, still etting used to his new environment. It was best that he heeded to the man, and he nodded. He slowly lowered himself, to stand in front of the figure..who was acutally much bigger tha anticipated in person. He looked up into the figure's eyes, showing no form of fear whatsoever. Oddly enough, being around the figure he felt a little spark of energy in him..something was changing within him.

"I hope picking the latter is not a problem."

Rohriel eyed the man carefully. Wings, six in total? Near perfect, the being was definitely not human, surely, similar in form, but that was where the resemblance ended. He seemed hostile enough, but there was still cause for concern. As such, him being unarmed was hardly cause for Bael to drop his own guard. The red glow of his gaze followed every movement, every flinch, ever contraction of a muscle. Paranoid? Perhaps, but such precautions were necessary when one gave off a feel such as his own. He could even feel a countering aura from this being, one that did well to suppress his own. For this, Rohriel was grateful.

"Not at all, friend," He kept the sword unsheathed, but the blade was still low to the ground - a gesture of caution, to be sure, but not one of hostility. "Sorry to call you out as such, but I am far from safety within these fields. I hope you understand my concern."

He felt Rohriel's hard gaze upon him. He was not going to lie to himself, he did feel a small hint of intimidation, looking at up Rohriel's figure. But nonetheless, he looked directly into the eyes of the man in front of him. Being who he is, he was obligated to not be scared of virtually..anything. His wings were still spread when he landed, but now they slowly started to relax, since he was using his legs, and not his wings. But then, something very awkward happened. His eyes widened, it was so odd..for the first time ever, someone called him a "friend".

"Friend?" Shien-Zen said, a look of confusion on his face. "..Me?"

He didn't sound like he didn't like the idea, rather, suprised and a little confused at Rohriel's notation.

"It was better than referring to you as 'large, six-winged humanoid'," Rohriel spoke with a slight humor in his tone, even if it was hidden by the metallic distortion of his helmet.

His armor creaked as he lifted Durandal and returned the blade to its sheath. There was no threat here. With a renewed perspective, Rohriel reexamined his new 'companion'. The light made it difficult, but this secondary senses kicked in, allowing him to make-out details hidden by the darkness. He was no slouch of a man to be sure.

"But you provided me with no name," He continued to speak, genial in deliverly, but still off-putting in tone. The man was a giant of a conundrum. "And as such, I am Bael; well met, I suppose."

The figure in front of him made a joke of the way Shien-Zen looks. The joke did not make him smile or even laugh at all, he did not like someone making light of how he was. He was tempted to say something to the guy about it, but he didn't. He could tell it was a rather poor attempt at making a joke. One task that seemed nearly impossible was making Shien-Zen smile..let alone laugh.

The person went on to introduce himself as Bael. This was something he could appreciate, as he nodded once, acknowledging that this was the name he would like to be called.

"Well..it would seem not everyone around here is unlikeable." He bowed quickly to Bael. "My name is Shien-Zen. Nice to meet you."

Rohriel canted his head to the side. He felt strange. The man, creature, whatever it was before him showed no emotion. No smile, no bemused expression, nothing. Just a dull stare. Still, Rohriel supposed he was used to such a thing in the way of his men. Soldiers tried to be as stoic as possible, but often failed in such. Granted it made the entire conversation difficult to deal with. Or was that just him?

Probably the latter.

"Everyone has... admirable qualities." He did not sound as if he believed his own words. "In any case, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, but, tell me Shien-Zen, what is it you are doing out here at this hour? The Plains are hardly safe, especially for lone travelers."

Shien-Zen could tell that perhaps he was supposed to laugh at the notion made by Bael, Bael's head moving to the side. Shien-zen just simply didn't find it funny, and something he wouldn't do, nor was he good at doing, was fake an emotion. The only emotion he knew was anger..and maybe that would change, but not now, and not today..not anytime soon.

Bael spoke, and Shien-Zen listened carefully. His words did not sound right..coming from this person that stood in front of him, but looks can be decieving, maybe he was telling the truth. He nodded once in agreeance..wether he was telling the truth or not, he agreed.

"I am quite able to take care of myself in virtually all situations. I should be asking you that question.." He folded his arms, his wings spreading a little before they relaxed again. "What brings you out to such an unsafe place?"

Rohriel merely stared at Shien for a moment. The question was peculiar. Not because it made no sense, or merely did not apply, no, it was because Rohriel was, more often than not, what was 'dangerous'. The man was beyond seven feet in height and wreaked of death and evil. So far as the tales were concerned, he was what was to be feared. An interesting thing to note, of course. This man wasn't anything Rohriel was used to dealing with.

"I am taking a moment to myself. At least, I was," He spoke without accusation, still friendly. "I am camped a few miles to the east, I suggest you stray from the direction, 'lest you prefer dodging a couple hundred arrows."

As if he did not believe himself, Rohriel turned toward the aforementioned camp. His armor creaked as he flexed his muscles beneath, tensing. Strange, the action was involuntary.

"It was too peaceful a night to ignore."

The man mentioned that the night was too peaceful to ignore. To Shien-Zen, that meant that the man suffered through various unpeaceful nights. He was now curious about the man's alignment. It was weird, though. He did not quite want to take a peek into Bael's soul, as it was the only likeable person that Shien-Zen had stumbled across ever since he's been here.

And looking into the soul could ruin all of that. However, if there was something urgent that needed to be addressed, it was Shien-Zen's obligation to do so. His eyes flashed, and he took a peek into the soul of the man..and now he regretted he didn't. His blank expression turned into a glare when the glow around his eyes disappeared.

He folded his arms now, his wings spreading a little behind before they relaxed again. He cleared his throat.

"..Your soul..is..tainted. Why have you killed and slain so many?"

"Hmph." Bael grunted. He was not amused. Whatever the man's glowing eyes entailed, he was not enthralled by the activity. His question was also something he'd rather not have to deal with. Annoyed, the man took a step back and raised his hand once more, clutching the hilt of his sword. That glare spoke volumes. A pity this would have to devolve into hostilities - for once, things had gone rather well.

"Do you make it your business to pry into the business of others?" The metallic distortion was harsh. His eyes flashed from beneath the helmet, the red glow momentarily expanding.

"Every soldier kills, I have merely done so more than most." He paused, still eying the Angel. "If you wish to fight, can we hold it off until the morning? I would prefer to not ruin the view with blood."

He only asked a simple question, and the man seemed to get very defensive against the seraph. Shien-Zen took a step backward, he was not sure if he'd be able to defend against the guy, and he watched him grab for the hilt of the sword, and he shook his head.

"I do not wish to fight..I only asked..why. I am an angel, so you have to know that it is my job to ask such questions. Why do you assume I want to fight? Well..maybe I do, but if you explain to me why you are the way you are..then maybe I will not."

While it was true he did not wish to fight right now, the way he felt about Bael was slowly but surely turning for the worse. Maybe the answer Bael gives could change that.

A sigh escaped the helmet. This was... tedious. An angel? That would explain the wings, but what business was it of his? Life was too complicated to shift views into good and evil. And now, in order to avoid a fight, he had to vindicate his existence? Pah. And he had thought this endeavor restful.

Still, Bael removed his hand from his sword and allowed for it to fall back at his side. Instead, he merely refocused his gaze on Shien, considering. How to respond?

"Your job? Don't make me laugh. Is it your job to punish evil? And who is to say I have done any evil? If serving your country is denoted as such an act, then feel free to tour the world." He paused just long enough to scoff. "I will not explain myself to you. What gives you the right to challenge me?"

His anger swelled, but he had swayed his own hand from violence. A good sign, right?

All of a sudden everything went downhill. The conversation was going great, and then it reminded him of his encounter with Razi. With that in mind, he quickly added Bael to the list of people who he would have to come back for when a reasonable amount of strength was regained. He sighed to himself..he really wanted to make friends with this guy, it could be beneficial to have such a powerful ally.

But the way Bael portrayed himself..as too good to answer Shien-Zen's simple question, made him mad. His expression went to a look of shame as he slowly rose backwards into the air, shaking his head at Bael as his wings spread out completely.

"Maybe it is my job..and since you choose to treat me like this and belittle me, you will be punished for it at a later date..just like everybody else who decided that that they could not even host a regular conversation with me. Goodbye, Bael."

With that, he turned around, and his acension toward the clouds acclerated. He was a little disappointed at how this turned out.
