There was no sound - at least from her - as they made their way across the glass bridge. Although the surface upon which she stood was relatively narrow, and there was someone close behind her, she took a moment to glance back, around his body, at those standing on the shoreline. For anyone who had attempted to walk the bridge without their invitation, or who had not been invited at all, they found themselves startled when they walked right through it, falling into the water; others simply couldn't walk where the bridge touched the shore, as if an invisible barrier had been erected. There weren't too many floundering around the shallows, but she did feel a tad bad for them. "I wonder why we were invited?" she asked, though the question was more a voicing of her thoughts than an actual question. Regardless, her head swung forward and she continued, not looking back again. The water surrounding them didn't bother her, as her companion should have known. If not for the fact that they were on the bridge and she wasn't sure what would happen if she did toy with it, Shadow would have been concocting all sorts of fantastic creatures to soar around them from the waters beneath their feet. The silence that followed her quiet comment stretched onward as they stepped onto the mainland. From afar, before she had set foot on the walkway, the Citadel had appeared in ruins. Having had experience, however, she knew better than to assume that an event with such a formal invitation could possibly take place in a building that had seen better days. Therefore, when they had placed one step on the walkway, she wasn't surprised to see the illusion lifted and the place explode into beauty. Even now, as she walked beneath the hanging gardens, flanked on either side by a wing of the Citadel, she was held in awe. The shapeshifter had seen such structures before, and such gardens too, under Jaida's hand, but never had she seen anything quite like this. She cocked her head towards Drium. "Have you ever seen anything like this?" As the words left her mouth she glanced away. Thoughts of Alex drifted through her mind, only to be crushed as she felt her feet carrying her up the steps. It was funny, how Fate seemed to work. It had only been chance that she and her escort for the evening, Drium, had wound up in the same city. Having met in Eldahar not so long ago, it came as a shock to her to run into him in the marketplace in Reine, in a completely different country. Yet, there they had met, and when he had asked if she had received the same invitation that he had, she had simply nodded and flashed it at him. Shadow wasn't particularly sure why, but he had asked her if she would like to go with him and, even less sure, why she had agreed. She had, however, and had spent the better part of the last three days hunting down a seamstress and a dress and had had much success. The invitation had said formal attire and she didn't think that her breeches and her tunic quite fit that description. The walk from Reine was a short one - Drium had insisted on it, rather than riding, as was Shadow's wont - which was for the better. If the walk had been any longer, she would have forced him to ride. Shadow's slippered feet gently padded up the stairs, to the twin rosewood doors. She was dressed somewhat elaborately, though not nearly as much as those she had seen walking ahead. She wore a navy blue corsette, pulled tight, but not so tight that she could feel her organs being crushed from within, laced with silver cord. Material of the same colour stretched up to her shoulders and around her upper back, leading into long, billowed sleeves. Silver ties sewn into the fabric at the crook of the arm served to pull the sleeves back, revealing that the insides were made of a white fabric. Rather than have a dress that poofed out around her, she had opted for something a tad more slender; the dress, at its waist, fell relatively straight, navy blue material on the sides, left open in the centre to reveal white fabric. The entire thing was stitched with silver thread, and along the back of the dress were fairly simple silver thread designs. Shadow had chosen a simple pair of white slippers to match. Rather than open the doors, she stood before them, taking in the sight. She hadn't seen doors as massive as these since she had had her temple, and that felt like aeons ago. "You can lead the way from here," she said to Drium, staring at him now. "I led the way here. Besides, you look a little more imposing than I do." She grinned devilishly. While she had left the vast majority of her weapons at the inn in Reine, she had retained a couple daggers, one strapped to her thigh and the other to her calf, in the event that something went horribly wrong. |

The demon thief had decided to be on his best behavior for the evening and he planned to stick to his resolve by not doing or reacting to anything the way he normally would. The first step on the way to achieving this goal was to leave his cherished weapons behind and attend the ball unarmed. That alone was a feat that deserved recognition for this would be the first time since the daggers were gifted to him that they weren’t within arm’s reach. He felt a tad incomplete without them, as if a part of him, both physically and otherwise had been lost. To quell that feeling he focused on the second and more troubling issue he had. When the thief had initially received the invitation to the ball, the first thing his mind flashed to was all the expensive jewelry that was sure to be worn there. Keeping his wanton desire to snatch every sparkling object in sight was going to take every ounce of self control he could muster… And then some. Drium suddenly glanced up at the female in front of him, a lost expression in his eye as she began to talk, looking past him and breaking him out of his thoughts. He shrugged in response to her before also being drawn to turn and look as those unprepared were halted in their tracks. An amused grin pulled at the corners of his mouth as he watched the people who had been rejected. One couple in particular held his interest as they flailed madly together in the shallow water; making the best of the situation and splashing each other, laughing. As they walked, Drium enjoyed the silence between them. He felt slightly awkward, but at the same time knew that when they arrived at the ball there would be more than enough noise and interaction to balance it out. He was happy that the walk hadn’t been too long as he was vaguely aware of Shadow’s preference to arriving by horseback. His reason for opting to travel by foot instead of by stead was simple: he did not know how to ride a horse. Never had it been necessary for the demon to use one for travel so he simply never learned. There was also the little fact that most normal horses shied away from him because of his demonic heritage so that was another incentive to save both of them the trouble. Drium hadn’t even thought twice about the citadel being in ruins. He had never been to a ball before, but luckily his ignorance regarding the event and its customs weren’t brought out into the open. When the citadel came into its proper form and the duo began to walk through the hanging gardens, he allowed a long impressed whistle to escape his throat. “Once or twice.” He looked at Shadow and raised an eyebrow; she seemed a tad distracted, but he said nothing of it for he had been there too; lost in a fond memory. As they continued onward, Drium examined himself and thought that he cleaned up pretty well, considering this was technically his only other outfit. A red fedora with a silver band adorned his head, decidedly worn at an angle, hiding only his left feline ear from view. The hat was also tilted slightly forward so that the brim hid his eye. In truth the hat simply wasn’t big enough to cover both his ears; something he only found out after he had acquired it, so he was forced to make do. His normally untamed purple hair was very neatly combed and slicked back, though the tail ends, refusing to be managed entirely, curled up slightly at his nape. A short, single thin bang was allowed to fall in front of his face, poking out from under the hat and splitting his eyes. He actually spent money on the clothing he wore as the thief quickly realized that stealing something that fit his tastes wasn’t panning out very well. A tailored dark red jacket with a black peaked lapel hugged his form, accentuating his shape while the coat tails reached the calves of his black slacks. The jacket was held closed with two obsidian buttons and a matching handkerchief was folded and tucked neatly in the breast pocket. A nice shine-less ruffled silver button up shirt was worn underneath the jacket, tucked into the slacks which housed a hidden plain belt with shiny black metal buckle, while a red bowtie was tied perfectly at the neck. Stolen ruby and orange quartz cufflinks, cut into the shape of a phoenix, gleamed at his wrists and were, along with the belt, the only things upon his person that hadn’t been his originally. At first Drium had felt very stuffy and uncomfortable in the ensemble, it was much more clothing than he was typically use to. The shirt and coat didn’t allow the elements to grace his skin as he would have liked and he felt the difference acutely. Now though he had grown a bit more used to the clothes and found that he didn’t think them terrible and was actually quite fond of them, though he would still choose his regular outfit over his current getup. The black shoes he wore, shined to a gleam, clicked on the stairs as he ascended; the sound actually being something he rather enjoyed. If it weren’t for the fact that they would be the most awkward, anti-thieving shoe ever, he’d consider wearing them regularly. Drium glanced up to look at his date for the evening as she spoke and stared at him from the top of the stairs. He stared back, taking in her form as she stood in the dress; having been unable to imagine her so done up prior to this, and grinned up at her. When the two had bumped into each other and he learned that she too received an invitation, he asked her to accompany him so that he wouldn’t show up to the event alone. Drium had also considered another option, to ask the vampire Valerie to be his date, but he figured she’d be much more interested in appearing with that lowly human boy. Needless to say, he was thrilled that Shadow hadn’t declined. Taking the lead, Drium went to open the door, but much to his surprise it swung inwardly before his hand reached it, the twin servants welcoming the two new arrivals. After a few quick seconds of blank staring, Drium catches himself and turns to Shadow, offering a sort of lopsided smile before heading inside. His head turns in all directions, eyes sparkling, and the look on his face akin to a kid in a candy store as he looks about the room, taking in everything in sight. He had no idea where to go from the main hall, but a pleasant scent drew him to lead Shadow straight ahead to the dining room. Once there, he again marveled, but this time at the display of food that was being carted around by the various servants, reminding him suddenly that he hadn’t actually eaten in a while. It was at that exact moment when he noticed the rest of the guests and flicked his gaze over each one. After only a few looks, Drium instantly became very self conscious, the light in his eyes dimming a little. “Why were we invited here…” He wondered aloud, now very much aware of his social class though refusing to fidget in his discomfort. The majority of the guests were obvious nobility and everyone there just had an aura of ‘well to do’ about them. Such thoughts weren’t becoming though and he very well knew this, so he pushed whatever second thoughts he had out of his mind and turned to Shadow with a toothy smile. “Shall we?” |

She had to admit: Drium didn't look half bad, wearing clothing that suited a high class citizen more than a lowly thief. He looked almost normal, had the shade of his hair not been purple or that his feline ears poked up from amidst those locks. One ear, in fact, was obvious from among the violet wave, the fedora not quite capable of containing it. It's ironic, she thought as she patiently waited for him to mount the stairs, that I should pick people who aren't normal. Alex had had ears, too. In fact, he'd been part kitsune. She didn't know what Drium was. But then, he also didn't know what she was, either. As he reached for the door, it swung open unbidden. Shadow's head tilted, her emerald eyes peering into the darkness beyond. She pushed her brunette hair out of her eyes, having done very little with it; she had had it pulled back and twisted, held firmly to the back of her head via an appartus made of animal bone. Her bangs, parted right, cotninued to hang in her eyes. She returned his smile with a grin of her own and followed, glancing back briefly as they passed between the double doors. There were two servants waiting patiently at them and, indeed, many more, flanking them. The shapeshifter glanced at all their faces, confused. Not a one of them said a word as they passed, and had she been timid or even mildly shy, she probably would have clung to Drium, just to know that there was someone alive nearby. She was relieved when they moved on, into the dining room. Together their eyes scanned the assembled people; Shadow recognized none of them. Her eyes were torn away from the extravagant display when he spoke, instead redirected to his face. He was six or seven inches taller than she, yet he wasn't exceptionally tall - at least, she'd seen many taller men. "Why not?" she asked, patting his shoulder as if to comfort. "Does it really matter why? The fact of the matter is, we were, and we should enjoy ourselves. How often do you see a ball this... lavish? I haven't seen one since well... Since my wedding, I don't think." She paused on that thought. The train of thought evaporated quickly, however, as she realized with a humoured smile that she was wearing the necklace Sphynx had given her at her wedding and that, surprisingly, Drium hadn't yet snatched it from her throat. Being a kleptomaniac as he was, he'd somehow restrained himself from taking the necklace, composed of three stones, enchanted, held on a thin silver chain. It wasn't the largest piece of jewelry in the room by far, but it was certainly the closest. And he hadn't tried to steal from anyone else yet, surprisingly. "There's nothing wrong with how we dress, and if they want to say something about it well... Let them. I really could care less. So yes, let's." What it was, exactly, that he was hoping to do she didn't know, but she was game for nearly anything. Even dancing, which she was surely to be clumsy at. The only sort of dancing Shadow had experience with was that in combat, and most wouldn't have even labelled that dancing; she was nothing like the graceful couples gliding across the floor. Or the servants... she thought, giving them a long, hard stare. They, too, seemed to glide. And not in a natural way, either. |

“Have I told you lately that I like the way you think?” He asked her with a grin after hearing all that Shadow had to say to cheer him up. Drium wasn’t one to stay sullen for long and tried his hardest not to entertain depreciating values of self worth for more than a minute. It was because of this that he was very much pleased with his date’s attempt to have him not think anything negative. He knew of far too many others who likely would have just fed into it until all that was left was a pity party for two. “I have never been to a ball before… Never really had the chance, though I’ve heard a lot about what’s all supposed to happen.” He told her with a very slight sheepish undertone in his voice. Everything he knew and heard about formal events of this nature he had learned from his brother; who had a habit of crashing such lavish gatherings and making use of that silver tongue of his among other things to deflect claims of his lack of an invite. The very brief reminder that he wasn’t an only child made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end so quickly he disperse the thought by shaking his head. With a smiling nod, he took Shadow’s hand and led her to one of the massive food covered tables, snaking the two of them between groups of chatting ball goers. The demon’s eyes were like a kid’s in a candy store when they reached their destination; huge sparkling saucers groping over the smorgasbord that was presented. Drium wasn’t a glutton, surprisingly, but the sight, and smell, of the delicious morsels had his stomach begging to be filled. He was actually going to just reach out his bare hands and snatch everything he desired, but a quick reigning in on his impulses caused him to jerk his arms back. Clearing his throat, he turned to Shadow with a lopsided grin, hoping that she hadn’t actually seen his lapse in manners, though he was sure she had. “I don’t think I realized how hungry I was until just now.” He said with a small laugh. Drium had made a promise to himself that he would act like he had at least some social graces so that he was what he was going to do. It was the reason why he had kept his fidgeting free hand from pick pocketing the taller males as they made their way here and was why he didn’t just smash his face into the table and gorge himself on the food laid out. “Can I get you anything?” He offered, eyes shifting away to scan the table for any signs of plates and utensils. |

"Oh?" she asked, glancing up at him, curious now as to what it was he knew. As far as she was concerned, there really wasn't any sort of etiquette involved, though others would have argued with her. Of course, one had to dress in something fancier than everyday clothing - even a clean pair of leggings and a fancy tunic went farther than a pair of old breeches and a tattered shirt - and they had to arrive via invitation; there was also the fact that one was expected to dance (in the back of her mind Shadow vaguely wondered if Drium would want to dance, as she didn't really know how and had never really been very good at it), and to share in the social experience, all domains that she was not particularly fond of or knowledgeable about. The shapeshifter grinned crookedly at him. "No, you haven't, but I'm glad you do. Last I looked, most are a little afraid of the way I think." She allowed him to take her hand and lead her towards the tables heavily laden with foods ranging across all of Soare and beyond. A grin spread across the fighter's visage as she pulled her hand free from his once they had found their way safely across the room, allowing him to go and find what food he needed. "You should eat more often," she said matter-of-factly, laughing quietly as her eyes scanned the tables. She wasn't exceptionally hungry - she ate well enough, and had eaten a bit before she'd arrived at the ball - but something to drink would have been nice. Something with a little more flavour to it than the usual. "Yes, I suppose you could, though I won't make you run up and down the row here hunting for what I'm looking for. I wouldn't mind something to drink, though, if you don't mind. Preferably something with a little alcohol in it." Shadow grinned. She wasn't one to get drunk, but a little bit of alcohol here and a little bit more there never hurt anyone. Besides, it wasn't an uncommon request, especially at a social gathering such as this; she'd already seen a number of people carrying wine glasses around, which meant that if there was wine, there was bound to be much more. She briefly wondered if Drium would think anything of it, or if he'd just breeze by the request. As far as she was concerned, it seemed normal. And besides, what did it matter, anyway? They were here to have a good time, not to question the choices of others. |

He grinned to himself at her mentioning that he should eat more often. He agreed with her, but he didn’t speak about it, instead nodding with an affirmative hum. Drium figured that things would be a lot better if he kept the majority of his eating tendencies to himself. Particularly due to the fact that eating more would mean hunting down more humans. Though Drium was fully capable of eating regular cooked foods, when left to his own devices, he found himself quite incapable of holding himself back from sinking his fangs into a person’s soft, warm flesh. There was just something a lot more satisfying about devouring live prey, which you just couldn’t emulate with regular foods. Just the thought of it, combined with his current hunger caused a sudden feral look to flash in his eyes. He quickly shook it away though, dropping his gaze to the floor momentarily. He smiled, listening to Shadow’s voice. He had no issue with alcohol and in fact quite enjoyed it himself. Of course, nothing he has had while traveling this plane had been strong enough to full inebriate him to his satisfaction, but that was still alright. Taste wise it wasn’t bad and the face that Shadow might like to cut loose a little made him happy. “Only a little?” He joked with a smirk. “I’ll be right back.” It didn’t take long for Drium to locate the wandering server who was carrying the small glasses of wine and get him to pay attention. He returned to Shadow’s side soon thereafter and smiled. “Here.” He offered her the filled glass that he had for her. After she had taken it, the demon finally excused himself so that he could get himself some food. When he was in front of the table, he quickly grabbed a plate and like a whirlwind made his way through the large, diverse selection. With a plate filled with various meaty morsels, he once more returned to Shadow’s side. The plate wasn’t piled to ridiculous proportions, though it was indeed full. From the look of it, it was clear that he was a carnivore with a variety of tastes though there wasn’t a hint of vegetation or sweets. He had just about one of every meat dish that was offered and went right to work devouring them without hesitation. He tried to do this without appearing piggish or greedy, and subtly he thought he was accomplishing this, but there was no real guarantee. Either way, when he had gotten his fill, though there were still a few things left on the dish, he turned to his date. “Sorry…” He apologized with a small smile. ”I just really needed to get something in me or I’d get all… Irritable.” Offering a shrug, he just moved to a new topic of conversation. ”I’ve realized I don’t really know much about you …. Tell me a little about yourself. Doesn't need to be too serious if you don't want.” |

She grinned back at him when he questioned her desire for only a 'little alcohol'. True, she could have gone for something heavier, but she wasn't entirely interested in becoming totally intoxicated only minutes after they had entered the place. That, and the shapeshifter happened to lack the ability to consume more than a few drinks before becoming tipsy, and only a few more would probably lead to complete inebriation and a massive headache in the morning - or so she'd heard, anyway. Shadow, being the 'good' girl that she was, had never been drunk. Not that there was anyone she could possibly get drunk with. While waiting for Drium to return, Shadow took to leaning against a wall, her arms folded across her chest comfortably. She was careful not to lean her head back against it, as her hair, quite quickly by a woman who knew the craft and had been stopped on the street in Reine, had been pulled back into various twists and spirals along the back of her head. It wasn't anything exceptionally fancy, but it was enough that she didn't look like she'd just let it be. Stray strands blew in front of her face, tickling her nose or her eyes, and she brushed them aside, all the while watching the crowd of people. She half-looked for Drium, half-observed. The feral appearance in his eyes hadn't escaped her notice earlier, but she'd decided not to comment; they all had their secrets, and she wasn't about to divulge any of hers. Her partner for the evening returned for a moment to pass off the drink he'd acquired, before he departed. Shadow's lips parted as if to thank him before they closed again - he was already gone. Now, with a wine glass stem clutched between her fingers, she resumed her idle observations, listening to the music that was fluttering throughout the room, a nice song, played entirely on the piano. She hummed quietly to herself as the song became progressively more familiar, until, almost suddenly, she realized that Drium had returned. He didn't say anything, however, until after he'd finished devouring what she presumed was his dinner. Watching him, slight hunger pangs sent tremors through her stomach, though she ignored them. Shadow wasn't about to send Drium back to the tables piled high with food, and she didn't really feel like making the trip herself. "Irritable, huh? Sounds like something to avoid." She sounded just a smidgeon unconvinced, grinning at him mischievously. "Thanks for the drink, by the way." Her expression changed, however, to one of perplexion when asked her to tell more about herself. Shadow had known that the request would come up eventually - how could it not? While they didn't know each other well, they were familiar enough and comfortable enough with one another that it seemed only appropriate to tell him something. That something, though, was what she genuinely struggled with. Despite this, Shadow managed to speak as if this was all natural, with only a slight hint of discomfort. "I know about as much about you as you know about me," she began, her fingers fiddling with her glass' stem. She took a sip of it, savouring the taste, before she continued. "There really isn't much for me to tell you... My mother was gifted with magic, my father a pure blood shapeshifter, and the result happens to be that I'm a half-blooded shapeshifter with a firm grip on water-based magic, with a good grip on light- and earth-based magic. I've been off on my own since I was young, as my mother and father were murdered." The shifter's face contorted into a scowl as thoughts of Kaleth passed through her mind; she briefly wondered where he was, what he was doing, and if he still lusted for her blood. It didn't much matter to her now, however, as she no longer had to deal with him. "I... have been trained on how to use daggers and my sword, as I'm sure you've probably already guessed. I've become a wanderer of sorts, but I've always been like that. If you hadn't already gathered, I'm married, though I haven't seen my husband for... a couple years now, at least." Shadow's expression darkened for a moment as she reflexively rubbed the index finger of her opposite hand across the simple gold band, massaging it. She had omitted dozens of details - how long she'd been married, whom she had married, other things about her life that may or may not have been important, but to her were significant. He may not have been a complete stranger, but she wasn't about to let go of everything relating to her life. "And what about you, Drium? What do you have to tell me? Besides that you apparently like to eat? And that you aren't everything that you seem?" Shadow grinned at him, as if to dispell the weight that she had placed on what should have been an easy conversation. |

Drium listened to Shadow speak with interest. So she was a shapeshifter; that was pretty cool. He had run into only a few shapeshifters before in his life though none had been on good terms. The ones he had seen had also seemed unable to stay in a single form for too long and didn’t appear to have to have one that could be describe as their own. He frowned when she mentioned that her parents were dead and offered his condolences without interrupting too much. Though he wouldn’t say he was best friends with his own, he didn’t know how he’d take any news that some ill fate had befallen them. “Wow, married? Seriously?” He asked, clearly having not expected that. ”I dunno, you never really struck me as the settling down type.” He managed to say before accepting the information she had given him. His brow rose as she went on and he was again taken by surprise when she mentioned she hadn’t seen her husband in years. He thought about asking her about that, but decided against it. It wasn’t his place to give her the third degree about her spouse. Besides, she seemed like a reasonable woman who take care of herself. If the guy was missing, she probably knew where he was or what he was doing, or at the very least trusted him something fierce. When asked about himself, he actually seemed fairly hesitant to answer, almost as if he found it sort of abnormal that his date would want to know more about him than what she was already aware of. In truth, Drium didn’t find himself to be all that interesting to talk about. Sure he had a few things that might make a person curious about him, but altogether he didn’t think his life story was at all relevant to anything going on in the world. Whether or not this was true was not his place to say. “Well….” He began almost meekly, glancing away into the crowd as he thought of where to start. Despite the fact that saying exactly what he was would probably be a good place to begin, Drium wanted to avoid revealing to Shadow that he was a demon. He didn’t know what her views on them were and he didn’t want to possibly scare her off. It wouldn’t be the first time such a thing happened and he found it best to have a person get to know a bit more first before actually delving into that realm of conversation. Of course, if she asked specifically he’d just have to oblige her and work with the response accordingly, but hopefully that could be avoided. “I’m a thief as I’m sure you’ve realized and the ears can’t really be explained, as they’re kind of an anomaly.” He started with a grin, poking at one of the triangular tufts for emphasis. “I’ve only been wandering around this place a short bit before I ran into you, but I’ve traveled extensively before that. I guess you could say I’ve been on my own for a while...” He couldn’t help but smirk to himself at that comment. ‘A while’ was putting it lightly, no matter how you spun it. “My parents are still around, somewhere. I haven’t seen them or gone home in years so I don’t really know what’s going on down there. Magic is a mixed bag in my lineage… Some have a knack for it, some don’t. I’m somewhere in the middle as I can only do a few things and not much else. Mostly what I excel at is weapons, my personal favorite being my daggers which were gifted to me by a really close friend of mine, but I’m a quick learner and can use almost anything else too.” Drium paused for a bit, humming as he looked at Shadow’s feet, brows knitted as he thought of what else he could say. ”Ah… Hmmm… I guess that’s it for now.” He finally concluded with a shrug. ”That’s a good amount of information, right?” The question was lighthearted and accompanied with a smile before he popped another hors d’oeuvre into his mouth. |

"I'm not," she laughed. However, that laugh wasn't the sort one might expect - there were darker undertones to it, as if there was a sick humour behind such a simple statement. "The truth is, we didn't really act like a married couple and yet, at the same time, we did. Didn't really live in the same... house... I wandered quite a bit... There were other things too, but I think those were the most obvious two. Still though, I don't suppose you can change how you feel, no matter how much you'd like to, and we definitely loved each other. I do still love him, and miss him, but I'm sure he's well, wherever he is." She grinned, though it was halfhearted. Although most would have called her crazy for waiting around, it was just that: Shadow trusted Alex something fierce, because, if nothing else, she knew him well enough to know that he wasn't doing anything he would truly regret later. That, and as she had said, she loved him; trust was bred from love and love from trust. Words faded as the shapeshifter listened to him, grinning slightly as he tugged at his second set of ears. As if to emphasize their strangeness, she quietly tapped into the tribal nature of her own power, ears quickly forming on the top of her head. With some difficulty she managed to hold them for a moment, highly used to either full transformations or none at all. They were that of a jaguar's, furry and spotted, lasting only long enough for her to tug at them before they seemed to retreat into her skull. It was true that she wasn't like most shifters but then, it was also true that she wasn't a full-blooded one, either. It was perhaps for that reason that Shadow was rarely, if ever, compelled to transform into several dozen creatures at once, rapidly, moving between each one successively, finding no solace in any single form. But, from what she remembered of her father, it was also true that he wasn't one to do that either despite being full-blooded. Shadow enjoyed the different shapes she could take, and if she had to choose her favourite it would easily have been the jaguar, but that she simply didn't want to. She had a sentimental attachment to human emotion and feeling; something inside told her that, if she were to take a more animalistic form more than half the time, she would likely lose that, giving into primal instinct and desire. That was a road that Shadow did not want to walk. "Of course," Shadow laughed, this time a genuine, amused one. She let slip the quiet aching in her chest, deciding that tonight was to be a good night, one that she would enjoy and remember down the road, when she was sitting alone in front of a campfire, thoughts meandering. After all, who had expected her to make friends with him, the one who had attempted to rob her charge of its goods? "Oh? I didn't know you had any dealings with magic, or that you possessed any magic - you seemed... mmm... perhaps disconcerted isn't quite the word I'm looking for, but you know what I mean. You weren't quite comfortable with it. What sorts of things can you do, if you don't mind my asking? Some people like to be a bit... secretive... with what they're able to do." Shadow winked at him and smiled before taking a sip of her drink. "I suppose I shouldn't pry too much, as a person's past is about as precious to them as their life. "Do you always go galavanting off for large treasures, or was the one in Ashoka a first? I've done a bit of thieving in my time." There was a brief pause, as Shadow's mind quickly jumped subjects. It wasn't so much that there wasn't a link between what she said and what she was thinking, but more that she was thinking quickly, and that each thought led to a different one, somewhat related, but not entirely. "Do you dance? Or would that make you more uncomfortable in a situation that already does so? Just to you know... make the experience complete. It wouldn't be with me though - I don't." Shadow twirled, giggling, though it was a bit on the sloppy side. Apparently the only time she ever did any sort of twirling was in combat. And this was nothing like combat. |
