Valerie stared around her. This place was a hypocrisy in itself. The fact that it was alive showed how much of the human race were hypocrites. She glared at all the life, the blooming nature of the place. Walking first through the blooms of flowers. Before finding the towering trees, all growing old and strong, never to be hurt until time itself stopped. Even then..they would be alive, just like her. She stared at them all, running her hands along the bark of the trees. Feeling the coursing energy beneath her fingers. She looked up at the towering branches, the sheer mightness of them made her feel small and powerless. Valerie had a lot to think about. People, places, times. The fact that she had somehow snuck back into this wretched town without detection. She felt herself smile almost, evilly. These people were hypocrites AND they were blind. She had a dark cape on that she had managed to steal. It was flung over her head, to hide the crazy tendrils of her hair, the paleness of her skin. The glowing fangs that slid from her mouth, and she had to be careful for everyone not to see. Her hands were completely covered so as not to raise suspicion. And still they had said "How do you do" And let her come in. She felt her hands shaking as she walked off of the path. Swerving her way through the trees, her hand running along their bark. It was sad that these things were doomed to live forever just like her. Doomed to continue producing for the humans. They seemed wise, and they were. But over the years, even the wise grow weary. She sighed softly, feeling as though her breath brought death to this place of healing. This place of growth. At least the things in this place continued to do that at least. Growing was such a normal reaction to life. You get hurt, so you grow and get better. Valerie was stuck, abnormal in the place of this dream filled place. She found some old roots and sat down, closing her eyes, small tears trickling from them. |

With a casual gait Drium walked through the immortal garden, orange-red eyes coolly flickering around the grounds. The demon thief hadn’t been to such a place before and from the look of it he wasn’t really all that interested in the plants themselves. He was looking for someone; anyone who he thought would be an easy mark for pick-pocketing or a mugging. Sadly there were slim pickings this night as people were few and far in-between. Not to mention that those he did see didn’t look like they had much that would have been of much interest to the thief upon their person. A sigh escaped him as he dug his hands into his pockets and continued to basically loiter around the area. He kept a small hope in the back of his mind that maybe some couple on a romantic evening would stroll by so he could take advantage. The thought of snatching a nice, shiny ring from someone made him smile, lifting his spirits a bit as he continued wandering. After a while of this, he began to grow tired of the garden however, the scent of all the flowers were starting to get to him. His nose twitched, but he held back from sneezing and quietly cursed to himself. Drium’s mind had moved on to other things now, mostly flirting with ideas of burglarizing various buildings in the city. He wondered how many building he would be able to hit in one night before people began to catch on. Drium stopped when out of the corner of his eye he spied someone off the main path. Turning to look at them a moment, his head tilted slightly; seemed like only when you weren’t looking for a target did one actually appear in this garden. He walked closer to the person, a smirk on his face as his boots crunched on the grass, but stopped when he realized they were crying. “Eh?” He muttered, mostly to himself. “Crying already? I haven’t even started yet.” He said to the person, still having yet to actually catch a glimpse of their face. |

Valerie looked up startled. Someone had talked to her. She felt her face go blank when she saw who it was. She stood up quickly and stared at him. "What do you want?"She asked her back pressed against the tree. She dug her fingers into the tree to make sure she wouldn't lunge for him. The last time she had she had almost killed him. She blinked a few times, taking in his face, his clothes. Her fingers dug into the bark silently her eyes searching him up and down. Valerie slowly sat back down when she realized he wasn't a threat and held her breath. She looked away quickly. "I know what you're thinking, perfect place to find you right? A place full of things that can't die, just like you eh?"She asked pulling her hood more down to hide her face again. She stared at the ground. "Or did you think I was some unsuspecting girl, hiding out in the woods for you to take advantage of?"She asked turning her face to stare up at him. The pale much more noticeable in the dark light and the black hood surrounding it. "Is this what you do on a normal basis?"She asked her glare turning icy. |

At first Drium was ready to explain the whole situation to the girl. Detail out how he was robbing her; that she should quietly hand him whatever items of worth she had upon her and then they could both be on their merry way. The words died on his tongue a moment thereafter though. When the woman looked up at him and he actually got a good look at her face, his eyes narrowed as there was something vaguely familiar there, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. The two of them seemed to recognize one another at the same time and he mouth twisted into a small scowl. She returned to her position on the floor and by her body language she was assuming he wasn’t a threat; which wasn’t far from the truth. “Actually I was thinking ‘what he hell, her again?’, but your interpretation works fine too.” He responded offhandedly, turning his head away from her, yet watching her out of the corner of his eyes. He listened to her, sort of, more or less cursing his luck for not stumbling upon just a normal girl down on her luck rather than a vampire. Drium scoffed at her last statement, returning her glare with the same icy intensity. “Don’t take that attitude with me.” He snapped. “Is hiding out in grassy areas having mood swings whenever someone comes by what you do on a normal basis?” |

Ninshi had been traveling with her for the some time when they stopped in the gardens. He was tired, and he had fallen asleep in the grass. He heard a familiar voice, and it wasn't Valerie's, and it surely was not friendly. He sat up in the grass and saw an old acquaintance of his. His eyes hadn't quite gotten focus yet, but as soon as he did, he saw his an old acquaintance of his..who he happened to have met a few times before. It was Drium..he sighed to himself, standing up completely and stretching up for the sky. "..Is there a problem, Valerie?" |

Valerie stared at him. "What does it matter to you?"She asked staring at him. "You shouldn't even let yourself come near me..I'll only hurt you..just like everyone else."She muttered and then jerked her head up. Someone else had come up from somewhere unknown. Ninshi. She gasped and jumped to her feet again. "He was bothering me."She said pointing her hand at Drium. She turned to glare at him. "I can't let people get near me."She said to both of them at once. "no one."She said looking from one to the other. "If they do, I will hurt them, I will try to kill them!"She said small tears pricking her eyes. She shook her head tears starting to fall down her face quickly. "I just can't."She said and crumpled onto the ground.

“Ya know, you’d have an easier time not hurting people if you didn’t, oh I dunno… Hide out in the center of a city filled with them.” He told her before giving a cold laugh. “Besides, you couldn’t hurt me anyway.” He tacked the last statement on purely out of habit. He was a firm believer in that statement however and would be damned if he let someone whom he said it to prove him wrong. The ears atop Drium’s head twitched as a male voice suddenly reached them, catching both him and the vampire off guard. The demon stared at the swordsman with a look of both surprise and contempt. His eyes quickly narrowed and he held back the low growl that was itching at the back of his throat at his appearance. This just wasn’t turning out to be his night it seemed. Then like a light blub, something clicked in his mind; perhaps this evening was still salvageable from a monetary perspective. After all, the swordsman probably had a couple coins on him; he was human after all. The look on the thief’s face morphed from the irritated one to something more akin to a predator as he stared down the human. His attention was then grabbed by the female and he looked at the vampire for a good minute, eyes slanted and mouth a straight line, obviously not moved by her words in the least. “That’s the mood swing thing I was just talking about. Why are you travelling with him, of all people, anyway? He’s just food you know. Nothing more.” |

Ninshi looked at Drium, and he shook his head listening to him speak. Drium truly disgusted Ninshi at this point..it was as if he just comes out of nowhere, and just is a jerk to everyone that he meets. Surely Drium has no friends. He was hoping that by now he would have maybe changed, but as soon as Drium opened his mouth, he was proven wrong. Ninshi took a step forward toward both Drium and Valerie. "Just food? You should be proud to know that I saved this girl's life..I'm her..y'know, friend. You probably don't know what that is since you don't have any!" But then she noted that he should leave, with Drium. He raised an eyebrow..now he was confused. It was not too long ago that she was pratically begging him to stay with her, and now all of a sudden, she wanted him to leave? "Umm..Valerie, you can't be serious." |

"You don't understand Ninshi!"She said looking up at him. "I want you to be with me! Beside me! But..you can't!"She sobbed staring at her feet. "When you are fifty, I will be like these trees, only these trees will have changed, grown. I may be wiser, faster, stronger. Maybe even less clumsy."She said shaking her head. "But I will still be like I am now, the same age, stuck in the same time period."She said looking at him. "You'll never understand, you get to grow old, and die."She said softly looking at them both. "Both of you! Well..I don't know about you.."She said looking at Drium. "But...I know that I will still be here, when all of you are gone from this world...me and the others like me."She said shaking her head. "There is no way I can fall in love with you!"She said turning to look at Ninshi. "I..I don't want to hurt you." |

He shot Ninshi a look, slowly running his tongue over his fangs. “Yeah. Just food…” He said quietly as the swordsman continued on. A vampire simply required the blood of a human to survive, and though Drium had to admit he enjoyed the taste of it, human meat wasn’t too bad a thing either. He rolled his eyes when Ninshi tried to insult him by saying he had no friends. Drium was aware of this already and was quite fine with it. He could be social when he wanted, and very much enjoyed being by himself when he was. Time had molded his mindset to believe that true friends were merely weaknesses to be exploited by the clever and more powerful. The demon rolled his eyes again when Valerie’s sobbing restarted and she began ranting about how she was doomed to a lonely life forever. Drium let her finish however before simply responding to everything she said with a laugh. “If you’re really so concerned with dying, I could put an end to this life of misery you lead.” His grin was stretched from ear to ear, fangs exposed, and there was a very obvious sinister glint in his eyes. “You may have a long lifetime naturally, but killing a vampire is an easy task if you know what you’re doing.” |

Ninshi really did not like Drium's attitude about the whole situation. Drium didn't even respond to the notion Ninshi made about him being lonely, so it was obvious he didn't care. But Ninshi was not that type, Ninshi enjoyed being around people..and that is why he made friends (maybe more) with Valerie. Drium could probably never understand human feelings and the value of friendship. To Ninshi, Drium was just another heartless demon. "Valerie..yes I can. I can stand beside you until we find a way to help your tendencies." His eyes widened as he heard Drium speak of ending Valerie's life. A vein popped in Ninshi's forehead, and he grinded his teeth. Drium's unconcern for anyone's life really made his blood boil with anger. He stepped forward, between both Valerie and between Drium. He was definitely ready to fight Drium..again. He was faster than before..and from the looks of it, Drium's abilities could not have improved too much..Ninshi was confident. |

Valerie stood up quickly when they looked like they were going to fight. "Hey calm down."She said quickly looking from one to the other. "I..erm.."She shook her head and looked at Ninshi. Why was he so understanding?! She sighed and looked at Drium. She had almost killed him too. Which made her feel bad, but she was seriously holding her breath now, torn between two people who made her the hungriest, brought out the true vampire in her. Brought out her evil side. The one that wanted blood from humans, not from animals. She could already feel her mouth watering. It scared her and she closed her mouth taking a deep breath so as not to taste them in the air. "Stop it."She said quickly expelling her air and staring at them her hands held up between them. |

“Oh?” His eyes focused intently on Ninshi as he stepped towards him between himself and Valerie. “Did I hit a nerve?” Drium was mostly just attempting to rile Ninshi up; it was very easy to do and something that amused him to no end. He was very much aware that the swordsman liked to jump headlong to ‘protect the weak’ and as long as you even mentioned the idea of causing harm to someone; the swordsman was all over it. To Drium the concept was laughable; to him, if you couldn’t rely on yourself to stay alive or to protect your things you didn’t deserve them. He took a step closer to Valerie, no longer paying Ninshi attention. If he wanted to attack him, he could feel free. That, too, would work to the demon’s idea in the end. When he spoke to Valerie this time, his voice was considerably softer than before, having lost the undertone of irritation and contempt. “Ya know, we’re not really all that different from one another.” He began, tilting his head to the side and taking a small breath before continuing. “We both have similar lifespans; we both rely on humans for sustenance…” He smiled, quite genuinely at her. “This one here…” He nodded in Ninshi’s direction without actually looking at him. “He may say he wants to help you. He may even believe it himself, but he could never truly understand what it’s like... Like I do.” Drium paused then and looked at Ninshi, his smile still on his face. “If you really wanted to help her, you would realize that you would need to be like her. As you are now, all you’d be doing is tempting her with what her instincts want most.” Edited by Drium, Jun 15 2009, 01:57 AM.

Ninshi glared at Drium, listening to him speak. He knew Drium was onto something..maybe trying to turn Valerie against him. Or maybe he genuinely meant what he said. Yes, Ninshi was the hero type, always ready to aid someone..especially a friend. "You don't know what I'm thinking, demon..you're just another loser." Ninshi's words were cold and he said them sincerely. "You're trying to corrupt Valerie's mind..well, I'll have you know, that I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, and if you have a problem with that, then we can fight again.." He lowered his head a little, so that his hat was covering his eyes. "But this time..I won't be trying to steal your little trinket." |

Valerie looked from one guy to the other. Drium was talking to her softly, kindly. He had a point, she must admit. But Ninshi was looking all to ready to fight. She had to take an even bigger breath to keep herself from attacking them. "What are you talking about?"She asked staring at Drium. He was a demon. She knew that now, she knew that was why she was attracted to his blood. Another evil creature like herself, longing for the blood of something even more evil then her. She looked at him her emotion changing, her eyes showing it. She glanced at Ninshi and then at Drium, torn. |

“You always have the best insults, Ninshi. If I were five, I’d be completely devastated.” The fact that Ninshi’s tone of voice was so serious and angry almost made him crack a smile, but he refrained, closing his eyes a moment to gather himself before responding to the swordsman’s claim. “I’m not trying to corrupt her.” He said to Ninshi as calmly as possible, which was hard to do since almost everything the swordsman said made him either want to laugh or stab him in the face. “I’m trying to help her understand her nature, unlike you who is only trying to suppress it.” He shook his head at that, as if to say ‘for shame’. ”It’s no more evil than how you humans eat cows, pigs, and other things.” Again he turned his focus onto Valerie and reached out an arm to touch her shoulder in a comforting manner. “We aren’t like humans, Valerie. You have to accept this.” He could see that even now she was struggling with her desire for blood; from either of them. Drium didn’t quite know how to take that but he figured he could go with it and still make his point. “You can make friends with them and have normal relationships with them if you want, but you have to always remember that first and foremost, they are food.” He paused for a moment, thinking. “If you don’t feed every once in a while, you’re likely to go berserk. You don’t have to be a killer if you don’t want though. There is a balance in there somewhere.” |

He basically just told Valerie that Ninshi is food, and can only be food. Food first, and maybe, just maybe a friend later. Ninshi did not think that at all, but it was becoming more and more evident that she was starting to fall for his ploy and believe him. He kept his head kneeled, hiding his eyes so that no one could see how upset he was in his face. He couldn't take it anymore. They had to get away from Drium now..but what if Valerie didn't want to? "Look..I'm out of here. Valerie..you can come with me..or you can stay here with this guy, but either way, I am gone. It's up to you." His voice was stern, and serious. He meant every word he said. |

Valerie was staring at Drium, drinking in his every word. Then Ninshi talked. She looked at him startled half forgetting he was even there. She blinked a few times and then realized he was leaving. "Wait why?"She asked her eyes flying wide. That wasn't supposed to...but..who was she kidding? She was a vampire after all. Vampires ATE people like him. People she could overpower with a kiss. She blinked a few times and then looked up at Drium, her eyes tracing his arm down to her shoulder where she stared at his hand. Watching the veins in his wrist pump fresh blood through his body. She took a deep breath. "Why do you have to dink blood?"She asked suddenly looking up at him. |

Though he was sure that the swordsman would never completely accept his words as truth, Drium would keep reinforcing them until he gave up and became submissive. He smirked slightly when he saw how Ninshi was hiding his face; upset over what he was saying, but still thinking about it. Though the logic was there, plain as day for the three of them to see and very much the truth, Drium knew that the subject wasn’t as cut and dry as he was making it out to be. He was fully aware; from both observation and his very own experience with someone who was no longer of this world, that a ‘mortal’ and an ‘immortal’ could form friendships and develop even deeper bonds with one another. He used the terms lightly for there were way too many variables within both descriptions to cover everyone who lived in the world When Ninshi gave Valerie an ultimatum, the thief sucked his teeth. ‘So quick to back down when things aren’t going your way…. You’re such a kid, Ninshi…’ He mused inwardly about male before a second thought popped into his mind. His eyes glinted as things moved together in his head. “Wait, Ninshi.” He said then. “Isn’t Valerie your friend?” He asked sincerely. If the human was going to play the ‘I’ve known you longer, you should go with me’ card, then the demon was going to take full advantage of it. “Since you know what she is and you know what state of mind she’s in, you should know that isn’t right to treat her like this.” He gave the other male a hard stare, his rust colored eyes boring through even that down tilted hat into his face. “Look at her. You might not like what I’m saying, but don’t deny the truth behind it. I might not be the most caring guy in the world, but it isn’t hard to see how much pain she’s in. Obviously whatever you’re doing isn’t working… Time to try something else.” He glanced at Valerie then and gave her a lopsided grin. “She isn’t some wild animal for you to protect the masses from. If you really want to help her, you’ll need to accept her true nature for what it is.” |

Valerie stared at Drium as he talked to Ninshi. All of this he was saying. She knew it was true, it was the words no one wanted to hear. The type of words that people hated to hear and did everything to keep from hearing. She looked at Drium a second longer and turned to look at Ninshi who was silent through all of this. Not a wild animal? He actually saw her as a person? She looked up at Drium once more before turning to face Ninshi, her eyes alight with some deep within fire. "Ninshi."She said softly looking at him carefully, her voice barely a whisper in the darkness between the trees. |

He stood there and listened to everything that Drium was talking to. He stood there, keeping his head kneeled. He could feel his eyes staring him down hard, even though his hat did it's best to conceal his face from him. This demon..this common thief..had found his way into Ninshi's head. The worst part about all of this is, Drium may have actually found a way to make sense to Ninshi, and it ate Ninshi up inside. If he didn't like Drium before, he certainly didn't like him now. And Valerie wasn't making him feel any better..just standing there and listening to Drium speak to her, not saying anything in Ninshi's defense, even though Ninshi did risk his life twice to save her. Even worse, she didn't even pick yet between them..so it's possible she could be considering going with him! Unacceptable... "I'm done here." And with that, he turned around and started to walk away from both of them. However he kept his ears open, cause he knows Drium's nature. |

"Ninshi!" Valerie exclaimed. He was leaving. She didn't want him to leave! But hadn't she just been trying to push him away? What was wrong with her? She had no idea what she wanted! She looked at Drium and then took off after Ninshi, stopping in front of him, her hood falling down to make her pale skin shine in the dark. Her dark curly hair flying about her face. "What's wrong?"She asked not thinking and reaching to grab his hand. "I don't understand why you're being like this!"She said staring at him. "Is it pride? Is that why you keep trying to run away?"She stared at him gripping his hand harder in case he tried to pull away. "I don't understand Ninshi!" She looked up at him her eyes pleading. "I know I'm not the best person to be around..I understand that, but he speaks true words!"She said feeling small tears prick her eyes. "I don't want you to go, but I know you should. But....if there was anyway..."She said turning to look at Drium helplessly and then turning to look up at Ninshi that same lost helpless look clouding her features. "If there was any way."She whispered letting go of his hands and hanging her head. |

Watching silently for a few seconds, the demon could only hope that the plans he thought up and wanted would come to fruition. There would be several signs of this and he was sure it was only a matter of time before one of them made itself evident. When Ninshi stated that he was done and stormed off, the thief’s eyes flashed with self-satisfaction. With that simply utterance from the swordsman, the demon thief knew he had won. In his mind he already checked this event off as something to bring up and taunt the human with at a later date. Drium did nothing to stop Valerie after she chased after Ninshi, too amused by the situation and pleased with himself as he was. While neither of them were paying him any mind, he grinned to himself and very subtly pumped his fist into the air. He suppressed a chuckle and watched as Valerie cut off the human, pleading with him earnestly. Of all the people to become attached to, he had no idea why she was so infatuated with him. So what if he saved her life once or twice? All that proved to Drium was that she needed to learn to take care of herself better, not that she owed him anything. Taking his time after composing himself and shaking his head, Drium walked over to where the two were currently standing. He stood a foot or two behind Ninshi, slightly off to the side in a visual blind spot. Listening as Valerie tried to come up with something herself, he gave a fang filled smile. “Well… I can think of a couple of ways for you two to be together. If you want to hear them that is.” Edited by Drium, Jun 15 2009, 11:03 AM.

Yeah, that was it, he was so done with everything. This made him question why the hell he even bothers trying to be a hero, trying to make friends, save people..because right now, it proves to be a waste of time. It'd be so much easier if he was an ass like Drium and he just robbed anybody who he saw fit, or if he was a Vampire like Valerie who ate people and drank their blood..ruined their lives. It was then that Valerie stood in front of him, pleading with him to stay. Again?! She pretty much let Drium talk so badly about Ninshi, and agreed with Drium that Ninshi was treating Valerie like an animal..even though he was so sure he wasn't. "Valerie..it is time for me to leave." When she let go of him, he tried to walk around Valerie, making sure she didn't see the anger in his eyes. "I've done my job..I've kept you alive for this long..I've spent time with you..and if you want to listen to him, then fine." He didn't even listen to Drium, though he knew Drium was close. He could hear Drium's footsteps. |

Valerie stared at him unbelieving. What had she done?! She had managed to catch a glimpse of his eyes. He looked so angry. She didn't know what to do! She shook her head and slowly turned to Drium. "I'm not going to make him do anything he doesn't want to."She whispered crossing her arms over her chest and keeping her chin high. She turned her back on him. If he was going to insist on leaving...it was for the best. She didn't want to turn him. She couldn't ruin his life like that. She felt her body physically ache as he walked away. Small tears fell down her face but she kept her back to him, her arms folded over her chest, her chin high. She looked at Drium. "What did you mean?"She asked her voice strained, harsh from the effort to keep back tears. She couldn't cry now. She just couldn't, she had to be strong, she was a vampire, this was going to happen more and more for eternity. She had to grow used to it now. Suddenly she turned around and looked at him. "I hope I see you again....if not in this life span...then maybe when you're resurrected, I'll meet you."She said softly her eyes on his retreating back. "I won't forget you Ninshi."She said tears choking her words.
