The demon sat on the edge of the cliff, legs dangling high above jagged rocks. His elbows rested on his knees and the palms of his hands cradled his chin as he looked out across the ocean. He wasn’t really thinking about anything in particular, just taking some time to sit and watch the world go by. The sound of the crashing waves on the rocks below lulled him into closing his eyes as the salty sea breeze brushed through his violet hair. The location was new to him and he wanted to explore, but the utter desolation of the cliffs was what ultimately reeled him in. Sometimes being around so many others in places like the city for an extended period of time wore down on the demon and he needed space to gather himself. It was either that or go on a killing spree, and though most of his race would salivate at the chance to partake in that, he was one of the curious few who would rather avoid it. For a good couple of hours he sat there unmoving, eyes closed, but very much aware of his surroundings. He had appeared on the cliffs when it was still midday, but when he finally opened his eyes the sun was nearly at the horizon. The resulting scene was like something out of a storybook romance. Hues of red and gold melded into purples and midnight blues, the large globe on the horizon mirrored in the shimmering ocean below. As if on cue a flurry a small yellow glowing creatures rose up from beneath the cliff edge and into the air. The appearance of the orbs of light intrigued him and he reached out a hand to grab one, but it flitted from his grasp. The demon wondered what it would be like to fly about like that. The wings that he possessed, though not currently visible, were not large enough to grant him such mobility. As the sun continued its descent into the ocean and hue surrounding the fireflies grew in the dying light, Drium threw himself back. As he now lie on the ground, arms spread out to either side of him, eyes trained on the glowing bugs above him, he began to daydream about all the things he planned to steal back in Kinaldi. |

Once the sun had sunken to an appropriate position, a shadow came darting from the treeline far away from the cliffs. It snaked across the ground, rolling over rocks, until it finally decided to collect itself into a slanted, organic figure at the edge of the land where, beside it, a four-eared thief lay resting, simply observing, and had been doing so for quite a while. Color and form began to rise from the blob, first a head, shoulders, torso, arms, waist, legs, and feet. This new figure sat with his legs crossed, an arm propped forward and up on the higher knee where a chin rested within the palm of a taloned hand. Dark eyes stared out, sharing the same curiosity at the scenery. He seemed not particularly interested in doing anything else, until, after a long moment of shared, peaceful silence, he opened his mouth to speak. "They've been doing this for at least five hundred years..." he muttered quietly, making no other motions but to say that bit of information. He'd come here often back in the good ol' days to do exactly what Drium had been doing: watch the twilight envelop the world. Even a dead heart like his could appreciate the splendor. Finally, a brow peaked as his eyes slid to their corners, taking a lazy glance at the reclined thief. Andromalius had been wanting to meet him since that night in the valley, and as on such rare occurrences, no malicious intent was behind it. |

Drium hadn’t noticed the appearance of the usurper of power as he lay on the ground. His mind was elsewhere amongst thoughts that brought the thief happiness as his eyes followed the display of the languid fireflies. They had a calming effect on him, which was much needed as recent events had him strangely fired up. When Andromalius finally spoke, the demon twitched, snapped out of his reverie by the unexpected sound. The voice was vaguely familiar, but one he couldn’t place a face or name to. Turning his head slightly to the side to throw a curious glance, he looked at the owner. The demon paused at the sight that greeted him, surprised that the new emperor of Morrim would be the one to approach him in such a location. His brow rose inquisitively and he stared at Andromalius in silence for a few moments before responding. “You don’t strike me as the firefly watching type.” His response was blunt and with that he returned to watching the glowing insects of light, though his attention was still upon the other. He breathed deeply, eyes narrowing just slightly as his imagination jumped ahead to unlikely scenarios of what could happen during this encounter. “Is this part of your lawn too, or is my trespassing no longer a bother?” Drium asked, the corner of his mouth perking up into a smirk as flicked the banshee a cool stare. |

One flitted around his face. Slowly and cautiously, he raised his hand to it, extending a finger. While the bugs seemed to shy away from the demon, this crazy one decided to land on the cold, bony extension. Its light went out just as it did. "Oh yes. I've done this for quite some time. Not many find this place, and when you're as old as I am, you begin to appreciate the more delicate things. The ...smaller things." As he said this, his other hand rose and came down on the mysterious bug, flattening it. The mage sighed and turned his head to fully look upon Drium. "And yes, it is part of my lawn. All of Morrim is my lawn, and soon all of Soare will be my lawn. In fact, you're hardly further away than before from my home in the mountains. But..." he shrugged carelessly, "...if I cannot tolerate your ass on my land, then my dreams of conquest would be maniacal, for there will be many, many people ...on my lawn." He turned his head back out to the sea. Today, his hair was down, a rarity, and freely moving in the sea breeze. His garbs were not but a humble robe of faded black and his arms and feet were bare. It truly seemed as if he had not been expecting anyone to be here. "What's your name?" he finally asked. "...And why do you have four ears? That's bothered me from the start. Can you hear any better?" |

Nonchalantly he watched as the bug’s life was extinguished, listening as the other spoke. “Heh, oh good. You’re not one of those types.” The thief didn’t specify what exactly he was referring to, though in his mind, a picture was formed; one of crazed lunatics with overinflated delusions of grandeur who thought the existence of everyone and everything was a direct affront to their quest for power. His gaze flicked back to the flurry of fireflies that danced above his head. He had no opinion one way or the other regarding this one’s quest to take over the world; as long as he personally was left to his own devices. “Why do I have four ears…” He repeated the question slowly, his tone sounding slightly annoyed, as if he had been asked the nagging question many times over and was tired of answering; neither of which were true. He yawned, stretching his arms over his head along the ground before he sat up, shifting so that he would now be facing the one whose company he was sharing. Drium tucked his legs beneath him, holding his head at a slight angle in his palm which rested on his knee, a puzzled expression on his face. He shrugged his shoulders lightly. “I don’t know why. I used to wonder that same question myself before I simply grew to accept it.” The furred pair of ears twitched as he now took a good look at Andromalius; the first ever, really, since the last time they had crossed paths he had been quite... Distracted. “And yeah, a fair bit better, can’t say they don’t come in handy.” He smirked. “Name’s Drium by the way. You’re… Andromalius, right?” He was pretty certain that was the name he had picked up in the plains. It had struck a chord in the back of his mind at the time, though he hadn’t the attention span to think about it. He just knew it was some name that he had heard before, only in passing, though the owner was not of this worldly plane. |

"M hm," he nodded, pleased by the demon's memory. After all, he did have a rather difficult face to forget, not to mention the uproar he had caused by simply appearing within the small group that windy night. "Alright, tell me something else..." the ghost ran his fingertips along the ground, picking up a rock when he'd found one before delicately holding it out to drop. Nearly four seconds passed before a very distant sound of the mineral hitting water resounded. "You're a smart fellow. How in the world did you manage to surround yourself with morons like Valerie? I mean... eventually you left after realizing they weren't worth you time, but you had to have gotten there somehow." His head turned to look upon his conversational companion, "Oh, and please feel free to ask me any questions, since I have asked two now." |

He hummed a response to give Andromalius the go ahead with his question. The interruption to his time alone wasn’t a bother this time as the man who had interrupted him was someone he was now kind of curious about and the feeling seemed mutual. His ears twitched at the sound of the rock finally hitting the water with a deep ‘plunk’ sound before his attention returned to the emperor as he spoke to him. “Ah…” The word was breathed more than it was said and the thought that was making up the response to the question seemed to be tiring him out all on its own. He shook his head slowly, eyes closing gently. “Valerie…” He nearly whispered the name; not completely sure what to make of the girl. He liked her, platonically or at least he thought he did, though lately their relationship was being strained by the string of recent events. “Valerie… She’s…” He didn’t really know how to answer that question in all honesty and as such he hesitated. She filled multiple purposes really; she was kind of, almost a friend, but was also something else. “She’s kind of a pet project of mine. You’ve seen how depressingly pathetic she is. I feel like I have to help toughen her up a bit.” He shrugged, not sure what was actually behind his compulsion to help her. Perhaps he saw that there was something dark and violent just waiting to be let loose from that innocent, helpless charade she had going on. “We keep running into each other and I’m taking it as a cue to bring out a less…. Sad and sorry side to her.” He paused for a little bit after speaking, a firefly landing on the tip of his ear and then darting off as the appendage flicked absently. “You’re taking over the world I hear… How are you going about that? … And why? Such a thing never really seemed like too much fun… The end result anyway.” |

His overall response, when he was finished, forced the Banshee to burst out into an echoing laugh, far too loud for a normal pair of vocals to casually manage. The deepness of it gradually shifted into a screeching cackle. Yes, this was how he actually laughed, and as of yet, Drium was the first to hear it, as nothing had amused him as much as him calling her simpering patheticness a project. "Good luck!" he choked when the laughing began to subside. He took a deep breath, exhaled, and brought a finger to his eye to wipe a forming tear away. "I've been a lot of places, met a lot of people, and she is by far one of the more lowly. Changing her will take a very, very, very long time. When you think you've finally done it, it'll all unravel before you as she continuously reverts back to the squirming maggot feed she is. Oh, I do not envy you and your project..." One more chuckle escaped. He perked when he, in turn, was asked a question. Tired of laughing - he hadn't done it in so long his sides were in pain - he merely grinned. "A mage never reveals his secrets. The last thing I'm going to tell you is how, and you will give a damn, eventually, because I plan on making everyone's lives miserable, including yours when the time comes." He turned his head back out to the sea, reaching up to tuck his hair behind his ear, out of his face. "Nobody's ever asked me why before, though, so I'll answer that. I plan on dying after all is said and done..." Andromalius paused, gaze sinking to the base of the cliffs beneath his bare feet. "I'm not supposed to be in this world. I initially died a very long time ago. My reason for still being is my compulsion to make everyone's lives a living hell. I think I may have made a vow before I died, or perhaps someone bonded me to the task. I don't really know..." Edited by Andromalius, Jul 3 2009, 10:12 PM.

The laugh was expected so the demon did little besides crack a small smile while twitching his head to the side at the same time. He rubbed his feline appendage gently, the sound having come from Andromalius being just a bit uncomfortable. Indeed, he too thought it was a laughable task to want to accomplish, but at the same time he held out hope that he’d succeed. To him, it wasn’t really a situation in which he could lose. If he failed, then he knew the outcome all along, but if he succeeded then he’d have something to gloat about. Not to mention probably an ally whom he could actually depend on to not be a useless slab of meat when faced with an overbearing opponent. He nodded when the other finally got breath enough to wish him luck though he wasn’t completely sure if it was a sarcastic gesture or not. Drium listened to Andromalius’ words and merely shrugged in response. He was probably right about Valerie’s repeated failure to be anything more than what she showed herself to be right now, he knew, but it didn’t matter; he’d keep at it. Drium smirked at the mage’s words while watching him turn to look out at the sea. He accepted that the man wasn’t going to detail out his plans for world domination to him, which was kind of expected; the question having been worth a try at least. Though he said nothing regarding it, Drium doubted that Andromalius could make his life miserable without any direct action against him. Even then, the demon had an extensive list of times throughout his life in which he would consider himself ‘miserable’. It would likely be a stretch to say that this world domination plot would make it onto that list. “That sounds like something that could be done endlessly.” He noted while reaching out and closing his fist around one of the fireflies. “If you, the mastermind die after taking over the world, won’t everything you accomplished eventually revert?” Mortals were resourceful creatures that shone brightest when pressed hard enough. If Andromalius actually did succeed in ruling the world, he had no doubt that in time, when the mage died; they’d discover a way to undo all the damage he’d done. The demon paused, bringing his hand down to eye level and peeking inside the dark confines at the small insect. “I understand your need to make everyone suffer, but… If you’re going to make them suffer, I’d think you’d want to make sure they suffer forever.” He shrugged; releasing the bug then and watching it fly away. “But that’s just me…” He grinned then, eyes flicking up to the mage and out of nowhere threw him a second question. ”Do you think she’ll miss you when you die?” Edited by Drium, Jul 5 2009, 11:09 PM.

"Mm. We'll see what happens. I won't know if I don't try," a crooked, sheepish grin dominated his features, dark eyes glinting with what could be considered about as hopeful as the Banshee had ever seemed to be. "It could very well be that all I need is an instant where everyone is unified in their misery to find peace. And when, if, I die without completing the task I'm still here for, well, I suppose I'd probably come back in the same fashion and have to start all over again." The glint in his eyes had long since disappeared. The mage raised his arms to fold behind his head before reclining to lay down on the patches of grass that faded towards the drop. He stared up at the sky for a moment in reflection. In all truth, he didn't wish to make everyone's lives miserable. He could, of course, without too much regret, but if it could be his preferences, he'd leave out a select few. Ashes, she'd already gone through plenty of misery. Erim, she didn't even deserve it in the least. Sphynx... Ah, Sphynx. He held onto the day that he could tell her how he felt, and the day he could ask her what happened to her. After all, nobody is born evil. Something has to happen. He wanted to know what had corrupted her to such severity. "I sometimes think, you know, maybe I am dead, and none of this is real. Maybe this is my punishment for leading a bad life. Amnesia, and shackled to a near impossible task, never to find the peace I wish for." When another question was tossed at him, he turned his head to look up at the demon, brows raising. "Nope. Her defenses are so fortified, I doubt she'd be able to have any emotional pain inflicted on her." Regardless of who Drium had actually meant, he'd replied thinking of the sultry necromancer. Catching himself after saying it, he blinked. "Wait... Who were you talking about?" |

“That’s the spirit.” He quietly commented on Andromalius’ first comment. Drium liked when people took that attitude about things; the statement had always been, and continued to be the reasoning behind a lot of the stunts he pulled. It was also the thing that he was trying to instill in that vampire girl. She always seemed ready to throw in the towel when faced with adversity before anything even really happened. He was sure that if for once she at least tried her hand at standing up to something that she could succeed, but, of course she had to be difficult. The thought irritated him and he immediately pushed the girl out of his mind for the time being with a small slant of eyes before returning his full attention to the one in his company. He didn’t respond immediately to the man’s words, instead just staring curiously for several long moments as the other lied down on the grass. It was kind of odd he thought; that this person of such ambition and power was just lying here casually conversing with him in this calm and gentle atmosphere. He tilted his head as he watched Andromalius, who appeared as if his guard was down and that he wasn’t actively trying to destroy the world, though Drium knew better. “Heh, well I certainly hope you’re not dead cause that would mean I’m a figment created just to haunt you.” He shook his head, grinning. “Would be punishment for the both of us.” Drium listened intently when the mage told him of the woman he quite obviously had feelings for. His previous grin turned into something more subtle, a look similar to understanding forming on his face as he moved his head in the slightest of nods. Didn’t take too long for Andromalius to catch on though, but by then he’d already let slip all the information the demon needed or wanted to know. His gaze dropped, falling to ground in front of him as he idly plucked at blades of green, his grin reappearing though his eyes still retained that faraway look. “I just… had a feeling there was someone you felt particularly close to who was helping you with all this, that’s all…” He shrugged, eyes moving to look at the other again. The demon didn’t have any particular person that he was talking about when he had formulated the question. It was just a shot in the dark that he figured was worth a try and the results pleased him. “There’s always more to someone than meets the eye.” For some reason the demon found comfort in the fact that the mage wasn’t as one dimensional as he had first assumed him to be, that he did in fact have something going on beneath the surface. He’d keep that information to himself, thinking that maybe it would help him cope with own inner turmoil somehow. ”I take your words to mean that you’re not sure if you’ve really made the impression you want on her yet… Hope you get to do that at least before all is said and done.” |

"Could be," he raised a brow in Drium's direction at his proposition of being a figment of his imagination. "Anything could be. Don't count it out. Someone once told me that the worst reason is generally the more likely, though for the life of me I can't remember who..." Andromalius chuckled at his own black hole of a mind. Really, there was no up or down in there, no direction, no sense... Hell of a thing to live with. Very frustrating. When the cat was out of the bag with Sphynx, well, the cat was out of the bag. He would almost entertain the possibility that this demon was a figment of his imagination would be the preferable case. It made talking much easier, for one. He didn't have to put up that 'fear me now or die' front, which was somewhat refreshing. "Yes... that would be nice," he sighed, turning his attention back to the sky and the millions of lightning bugs dotting it. "But I doubt it. I doubt she'd ever allow me to get close enough to tell her. If she had a bad reaction, my plans of world domination would take a giant step in regression. She's the strongest ally I have. Can't lose her over something as insignificant as feelings. She's my ace, my queen. Mm." Raising a fist to his mouth, he cleared his throat. "I swear, females are insane. I've got this spell, you see. Allows me to enter the dreams of people and twist them. When I inserted myself into her dreams, she took to it too quickly. I had her pinned against a tree in no time, making out like teenagers. Then, when I heard her wake up, she was screaming. What do you make of that?" His head turned once more to face his conversational companion, the breeze tossing his hair over his chest. "I mean, could she really be that repulsed? If so, why did she do it? What's she afraid of? Why can't I... break through her walls? I don't know. What would you do?" The fisted hand sprawled out and fell onto his face in exasperation, a heavy sigh accompanying the act. "And why the hell am I having girl problems at my age, with this whole..." his free hand gestured lazily in the air,"...world conquest thing. It's far too distracting!" |

He merely hummed at the mage’s counter regarding him being a figment of imagination. He could play the part if need be, though he would refuse to entertain the concept as truth even in the slightest. It seemed to him to be a rather narcissistic view to keep; that the world revolved around oneself and that somehow everyone in it had been thought up just to tease the subject. He smirked. If he were a figment, whoever thought him up surely had a wild imagination to create all the memories and experiences he had locked away in that purple covered head of his. The sigh given off by the other cause him to tilt his head as he listened, finding it just a little bit curious that such a fear monger was having issues of the heart. His smirk softened into a knowing smile as Andromalius spoke, bearing what Drium could only assume was some of his innermost feelings to the demon. He didn’t interrupt and stayed silent through it all; nodding in agreement at the statement regarding females being insane. Hearing about the other’s ability to insert himself into the dreams of others intrigued him and he passively toyed with the idea of all the things he’d be able to do with such a power. Drium almost snickered at hearing about the mage making out; he had only just really met the man, but it was impossible for him to envision such a thing. He’d admit that Andromalius had qualities that women would find physically attractive, but to think of him acting so enamored was beyond his mental scope. When the mage had finished, he didn’t immediately speak, instead thinking over what his advice should be. A few moments later and he hummed once more, finally coming up with something. “If she were truly repulsed, she likely wouldn’t have responded to you at all in the dream.” He said affirmatively. “Even if it was a dream, and an interactive one like how you describe… If she didn’t want to partake in it, she could have easily deflected your advances. Besides,” he grinned then as he tossed the gathered handful of grass disperse into the wind and towards the cliff’s edge. “Dreams are said to be the place where one’s subconscious desires can be acted out without real world repercussions.” “Something tells me that if this woman is truly your strongest ally, that she wouldn’t be the type to wear such romantic emotions on her sleeve… And I wouldn’t doubt that she might just not want to believe that she even has an attraction to you.” Drium shrugged, that was all he could really say based on what he had heard thus far. “I…” He paused hesitantly, trying to insert himself into the other’s situation. “I would keep at it.” He said finally, head tilted back to stare even beyond the fireflies at the cosmos above. “If I felt that she is particularly special and worth my affection, I’d continue to try. Just don’t let her use your feelings as a crutch to topple you.” Drium laughed lightly then, eyes closing contently. “The answer to your girl troubles is simple, Andro; you picked a woman to partner up with.” |
