| Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members. Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity. But how long will that peace last? She stared blankly as he ran off, wings and tail perfectly still. Despite all that she knew of him and how prone he was to fleeing, it still came as a shock. Had her actions really warranted his flight? She had thought not, but evidently it were so, as here she was, standing alone now with only the lingering of his scent. It was... ridiculous. How could one be riddled with so much cowardice? She never ran from a problem! Which was precisely why she was so danger-prone herself. Perhaps he was on to something. "Bloody... coward! She called after him, coming unfrozen as she stepped forward, her tail giving an irritable swish. Her hands curled momentarily into fists, and she grit her fangs painfully amidst the rest of her teeth. Self-control and self-restraint were some of the last traits to come natural to her, but by some rare gift she managed it, withholding the urge to chase him down right then and there in order to sink her fangs into his back. It was tempting, certainly, but far from necessary. She had agreed, after all, to be his friend. Friends did not bite other friends. "Be like that then... just be like that... we'll see where that gets you." She grumbled, turning away from the direction she was headed on all four limbs. At this point she was only barely angry, leaning more toward regret for having snapped at him, knowing that flight was his second nature- if not his first. The need to reconcile with a person was one little experienced for the shapeshifting beast, but evidently one that instinct had not forgotten, as her path risked a broad turn from shelter. He would require space for a time to get over it, and she would require some time to catch them dinner, hopefully before the rain started upon them. Hunting was no challenge. The first hare to come into her sights she instantly pursued, chasing it down until it neared its den, and then jumping forth to cut it off, causing it to backpedal with a shriek. She lunged at it, leaving the entrance to the den open, and the hare, noting this, made a mad dash to get inside. Her tail, like a sharp whip, lashed it away, tossing it within reach of her claws, which promptly stamped down into its throat. Then that was it, the hare was dead. Never a traditional hunter in truth, Minno apted to toy with her prey rather than just madly chase after it. Rather than go for the hare, she went for its sanctuary, and that had made all the difference. Bowing her head to sink her fangs into the scruff of the hare's neck, Minno lifted her prize between her jaws and began to take off again, headed back towards the temple as fast as her limbs could carry her. The sky was dark now, looming overhead with heavy clouds. Impending rain threatened until, with a plip the first drop fell from the sky. A few more fell after it- plip plip plop- and then all of the air was full of them, falling fast towards earth. Minno growled as the first droplets hit her, but did not slow down. It was not until a steady torrent of rain was falling upon her that she reconsidered her form. Although a fair speed on all fours, her figure simply was not suitably designed for it- invented by man, as it were, whom were far from being ideal runners. She stopped, shedding her cloak and then taking human form to remove the rest of her clothes, before taking off again, leaving her clothing behind her. Her body reshaped as she ran, fur respouting along her body, and a tail re-emerging from the base of her spine. Her face elongated until it formed a snout, and soon the transformation was completed. On faster, more suitable legs, a wolf dashed toward the temple, hare still clamped between its teeth. Minno dove into the temple with one last leap, skidding across the floor on unaccustomed pads as her claws attempted to slow her down to a steady stop. Unfortunately, the wall came first, ending her slide finally with a thud. Snorting at the wall in contempt, she dropped the dead animal before her on the floor and stepped away from it, drying her soaked fur with a violent shake that sent droplets scattering across the floor and along the offending wall. Satisfied, but still wet, she turned back around to retrieve the hare before trotting off in search of James. She attempted to follow her nose but, not the best tracker, she gave up on it, letting their meal slip from her mouth in order to call out for him, her voice carrying the note of a wolven howl as she spoke his name. "James? Where are you? I have dinner! And I'm soaking wet too so I hope you're happy... you'd better answer or I'll eat every bit of this by myself and won't leave you even a nibble!" |

When Minno arrived and called for him she was met with silence. The slave, still curled beside the altar, was lost to sleep. Eventually, however, his awareness began to pick up and the paralysis placed on the vast majority of his body was lifted; slowly, James lifted his head. He heard noises, all seemingly foreign, and slowly, cautiously, pulled himself into a standing position. He walked the halls of the temple for a time before stumbling upon Minno. He paused, staring at her, sure that she must have noticed him. What did she think, to have watched him run off? He could tell she had found something, for in the darkness that had descended he could see some sort of mutilated form on the floor, something that she had likely devoured. Glancing back at her, he was still nervous, but he felt that he had enough courage to speak. Outside it seemed that the rain had let up, with cloud cover dotting much of the dark sky, although there was still the soft patter of drops against the temple roof. James pushed away from the frame of the door. He came to stand in a shaft of silver light, hardly noticing it, still watching her. He fidgeted, but, eventually, found the courage in himself to speak. He wanted to apologize, of course, for running like he had, and to thank her for finding food, even though he probably wouldn't be eating it, and to see where they could go from there. His lips parted as if to speak when his face suddenly contorted. Pain rippled through his body, beginning at the base of his spine before branching out to his fingertips and toes. A piercing scream tore through the temple as he collapsed to the ground. Blinded by pain, it took everything James had to push himself onto his hands and knees. His entire body convulsed, fingers clenching and unclenching, breathing coming out in heavy, ragged gasps. His back arched as another particularly painful spasm spread, and that's when the transformation truly began. Hair, thick and long, sprouted from his body; his face elongated to become a snout as ears appeared on the top of his head; his legs became more muscular, his body twisting from a human man on his hands and knees to a wolf, standing. Yellowed fans dripping with saliva were visible where they were bared, and slowly, that wolfish head with its mix of white and brown turned to look straight at her. A feral growl replaced the screams of a man in excruciating pain, and feral instinct took over. The werewolf lunged at Minno, landing directly in front of her. Teeth completely bared, he snarled at her, snapped his jaws, seemed about ready to take a chunk of flesh out of her face before he suddenly turned and fled, claws scraping across the marble flooring. It took the beast a moment to coordinate itself, but as soon as it did, it was barreling out the door of the temple, down into the plains from whence it had come. It never looked back. It desired blood, and blood it would have. |

The hare was starting to fall apart from the trial of being picked up and dropped too many times, its wounds ripping further open and its leg- for she had been too rough- was coming to be unattached. Yet still she had persisted to drag it around in search of the scrawny former-slave. When she had finally found him, or more like, he had found her, the hindleg released the rest of the carcass in a heap on the floor, the torn limb still grasped between her canine jaws. Disregarding this, she dropped the leg on top of the body, and looked to James with a casual wag of her tail. At first. When his usual face morphed into an expression of pain, her own body went still in stunned reaction, ears pinned back with uncertainty at the sudden change. The sharp screech that cut forth from his lungs sent her skittering back a few steps, tail near to ducking between her legs instinctively. For the long life of her, she could not understand what was happening... and yet it all seemed too familiar. Far too familiar. "James?" Her voice was barely above a whisper as she put a paw forward, drawing herself back nearer, but not another step would be had before the transformation had begun. She watched in dawning horror as the scene played out before her, a display she knew all too well. The pain as fur emerged, and bones reformed into something inhuman... it was not like her shifting, as her body was equipped to handle the change. James was human, he was not meant for this. She lurched back as he lunged at her, scrambling back again to get out of reach. He dropped before her, and her lone eye got a good look at his sharpened fangs. In that moment, her heart skipped a frightened beat, and then he was gone. She straightened once her senses were regained, and made to pursue, but stopped as she came to the entrance and found the sky still dripping with rain. Standing before the downpour, she gazed after as his shadow rushed off into the night. He was off to fulfill a thirst few other humans would ever know, a gory path of death and crimson. Life would be lost beneath this moon, be it animal or man. Luck be it to the creatures whose folly it was to walk this hour, for it was soon to be their last. It was a deadly hunger he followed, but it was a hunger that they shared. "Oh go get wet, damn you." She growled, baring fangs at the dampened darkness. But he was long gone, and alone she stood, gazing out at nothing but the lightening rain, and a moon both beautiful and sinister in the same one-eyed glance. With a snort, she turned from it, paw pads carrying her with a clicking of claws back into her chosen shelter, and to the tattered animal whose blood was set to stain the hardened floor. A grunt of contempt carried the last thought for the departed werebeast, whose cursed vessel was her friend. "You're not worth the rain." Should they meet again, she would forgive him, but for now he was no longer of her concern. Her own fangs parted, and she knew the taste of blood. |
