The Fall of the Gods When the gods first arrived in Elenlond, their power was in full bloom. Having survived the devastating and emotional implosion of Mianor, Elenlond was theirs to command, a place where their magic could cast new roots. And, in the years following the loss of their original lands in favour of newer lands, they reigned well, despite the animosity that emanated from those who had been forced to become subject to them. Yet, despite this, neither status nor power would last forever. The magic that the immortals possessed was, invariably, bound to Mianor, as that is where it originated. It was there that they were first deities, and it was there where that magic belonged, where that power yearned to be. As a consequence, the power of the deities began to diminish over time, growing steadily weaker, the roots that it had endeavoured to spread flinching away from the alien soil. It sought Mianor’s soil, the soil that it knew and loved. While many of the gods may not have noticed this, some did; some chose to ignore it or rebel against it, while others embraced it. Others still were completely oblivious. As this power slowly began to slip away, there were massive changes in the world, as if it had begun to awaken. As each deity fell in turn, the land began to change, reverting to the way it had been long before their arrival. Although these lands had, for the most part, retained their ethnic identities and cultures, they had been completely dominated by the men and women they resented, and as soon as those men and women had suddenly ‘vanished’ from the political scene and they were dominated no more, the original boundaries of the nations became clear once again. The only deity who retained her status was Evona, Goddess of Chaos. She reigns over Esiria, worshipped by its inhabitants, a ghostly figure in the background. Chaos was the only element that did not suffer a loss of power, the reasons for this unknown. Esiria continues to worship her willingly, and in so doing, has completely isolated itself from the rest of the world. By the time 0 AR (After Restoration) came, all but Evona had fallen, and all of Soare's nations had reasserted their sovereignty. The gods walk among mortals now, mortals themselves. They can be anything – a healer, a warrior, a chef or a cult leader – but they are no different from the people that which surround them. Only those who had been wholly devoted to the deities may recognize them at first glance – more may recognize them by name, but the odds are unlikely. It is just yet another change within Elenlond, another story added to the billions more that already exist. Edited by Kestrel Sumner, Dec 14 2012, 06:07 PM.

Fallen Mianorite Gods and Goddesses Below is a list of the last-known gods and goddesses who either came directly from Mianor after its implosion, or who ascended shortly thereafter, before falling because Mianor's magic was immensely unstable in Elenlond. The element each one presided over is in parentheses. A handful of these former deities still walk Elenlond's soil, largely forgotten but not lost to oblivion like their brethren.
*Evona technically never fell. Instead, her power blossomed and transformed itself, adapting to Elenlond's native magic. She currently resides as the only goddess of Esiria, the eastern continent of Elenlond that is both in isolation and inaccessible to most. |
