Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

"Monster! Beast! Help! Help!"

Sometimes, she'd just swear that absolutely nothing was more annoying than the average human. Nothing seemed comparable to the annoyance a human's cries did bring. But then she'd name atleast five things more irritating and admit it wasn't the worst possible thing. Still high on the list, but not the absolute worst.

The "beast" sat back, perched on a table with a freshly killed hen held between her hands. Now that the street was entirely hers, she was content to remain where she was and enjoy her meal. Cries of "beast" and "monster", however annoying, had done her a favor in giving her a quiet space within which to feed. Now there wasn't a thing to keep her from sinking her fangs into the dead bird.

Sharp, natural daggers pierced fowl flesh and tore backward, ripping away a mouthful of feathers and skin. The first bite was spat onto the ground. The second bite was placed within the open wound, gnawing away at the meat of the animal and at the same time sucking up its crimson blood.

A vampiric race indeed, but it was not for that that cries of monster had rang through the streets of Ankgar. Just looking at her, the reason for the name was quite clear. Here stood not a human, but a creature, humanoid in figure but covered from ear to tail in a coat of grey; thick fur that made her lack of clothing appropriate. From her back spawned two great wings, bat-like or dragon-like in appearance, and from beneath them came a long, slender tail. Ears, cat-like and almost elven-like in appearance, protruded from darker grey hair. It was a being like no other; and thus a monster, in the peoples' eyes. The way she had swept down upon the crowd and attacked the helpless bird... who could be blamed for such assumption?

In truth, she saw herself the same. A creature with more kin to the wild beasts that strode on four legs than the mortals that walked on two. Vicious, merciless, and a bloodied killer... when needed, instinct came all too easily to her. It had been too long since she had last feasted on the precious liquid that maintained life; eyes had spotted the bird, and instinct said to pursue it. Easy prey. All too easy.

Her face caked in blood, the shapeshifter looked up from her dinner. Ears twitched and flicked, searching the air for any sound that might alert another approaching. It was probably about time that someone come after her- fearful cries did not make for happy law-enforcers and the other like who defended cities from harm. Yet not a sound met her ears just yet, and so she continued gnawing at the corpse and sucking the pool of blood into her throat, where her complicated physiology would proceed to deal with the needed blood. It wasn't much- she could do for something greater- but it would hold her over for a short while. Just until she could track down something larger to kill.

The creature's feasting slowed, her single eye narrowing as she settled to just lightly gnawing at the dead animal grasped between her hands. It felt ridiculous that she'd allowed herself to attack amongst a crowd of people. Had she no control of herself? Attacking with so many humans around was usually the last thing she'd do- getting caught was a fear of hers. Yet here she was, eating with utter disreguard.

'I must really be on end if I've given in to survival instinct so easily.' She sighed at the thought and gave an irritated huff. Her nerves had been high since the battle at the Keep, and it sure wasn't helping that she had to constantly be alert just in order to get around. Missing half her vision just made things all the more difficult. Especially when it came to hunting, which likely had had something to do with why she'd jumped at the opportunity to kill the chicken, as it was easy prey just waiting to be killed. How could she resist something so tempting?

Not all the people have simply chosen to sit back and shout exclamations of fear. The city's guardsmen have instead chosen to act, And now, both on the ground and in the towers around the streets, have their sights trained on the beast. The men in the towers are all equipped with composite bows, each with with arrow pointed straight at this strange creature in the city streets. And then their surprise attack begins: Some of them have drawn out nets, with lead weights arranged around in many places around the edges, the nets consisting of steel wire to cut into the flesh and subdue with pain any who would try to struggle against them. The men toss the nets over the beast who is busy feasting on the chicken in turn, hoping that one or more of the nets will land on her and trap her. And they get lucky, several land upon the creature as she sits in her own little world, eating that unfortunate hen.

The weights push the nets heavily to the ground, trapping her easily under their criss-crossed steel cables. Several of the men climb down from the watch towers and slowly advance on the beast. Upon getting closer, they see that her form resembles that of a human female very closely, except several features, such as fur, horns, and wings are more animal-like. A curious creature indeed, one these men have never seen the likes of! She is also wearing an eye patch... Strange. The king needs to see this beast as soon as possible. The guards slowly draw nearer, prepared to take her into the castle.

Sweet, revitalizing blood coursed down her throat; fangs shredding into the bloody, fleshy pool with vigor. Each torn tendon, each pulled muscle... ripped from the limp body and chewed in a mouth that only hungered for blood and meat. Carnivorous, and proudly so; worn on her face like a crimson flag of death and gore. So stated danger, and so hinted ferocity. She was every bit a horror that the wild so proclaimed- the darker side to nature's beauty. Like packs of wolves and the soaring eagle- naturally dangerous and naturally hungry.

She fed like a wild beast; no mercy and no restraint, and certainly no manners. Face in, rip, and tear. No conciousness for the gross act in which she divulged. Any could see her kinship with beasts from this angle... but could they see the other side? Tamed, and domestic; at any other time, none would guess her to be like this. Not wild and uncontained. Not her. Yet here she was- every bit the monster she appeared.

But it weren't as though she were hurting anyone- except the chicken- or destroying everything in a senseless rampage. So why then was it that her meal was interrupted by a series of nets dropping upon her, pinning her to the ground and, consequently, knocking the hen from her hands?

"Gah! Ah... hh..." Minno's eye was open wide, her body dropped to all fours as her wings spread out to support the net now digging into her back. The attack had taken her entirely by surprise, and a whir of stunned thoughts now rushed through her mind. What was going on? What were these things? And, more importantly... who was attacking her?

Minno's body trembled, realisation that she was caught flooding her heart with fear and panic. She had to do something... had to get away. They wouldn't catch her- not again. Not now. Not after so many escapes before.

The unnatural solid blue iris of her only eye nearly engulfed her dark pupil in her wide-eyed panic- until her gaze at last set on the men that approached her. Heart still beating fast, her lone eye narrowed, and she greeted them with a warning hiss, followed soon after with a deep-throated growl. Not now. Not today.

With a deeper growl and an even greater snarl, she pushed back against the cutting weights holding her down, and then, without any warning, shrunk in size. What the nets held was, in short time, no longer a strange creature of unknown race, but an all-too-familiar animal about as threatening to society as the dead hen. A rabbit- a grey rabbit of the same hue as the beast; with a darker grey cottontail and darker grey ears. The band of cloth that had covered the female's eyes now lay over the rabbit's head, too large to still be worn.

A short moment passed before the creature moved, crawling out from under the nets with the cloth still over its body. Freed from its confinement, it peered out from under the cloth. The left eye- the same unnatural blue- was no greater eye-catcher than the place of its absent companion; her right eye revealed, all that could be seen was an empty pink socket. The rabbit's ears twitched irritably at the men. But then the animal was off, the cloth wrapped over its back and held between its teeth.

No... they weren't going to catch her this day... they most certainly weren-

She squealed loud, like a trapped swine, and backpedaled back in a different direction, as the path she'd chosen for escape revealed more guards. Surely these men weren't everywhere! There had to be some sort of escape!

Panicked still, and further more, Minno rushed around in zigzags and circles, dodging hands that tried to grab at her. Yet no matter how much she raced, there didn't seem a route to even squeeze through to reach freedom. 'No... no! They won't catch me... they won't!'

The guards watch in astonishment as the creature begins to change. Within seconds the beast is gone and a tiny rabbit is hopping along the ground trying desperately to escape. The guards however, are quick to respond to this and crouch down, blocking off the entire circle around her. The men slowly close in around her until there is almost no space left for her to run away in, and quickly, one of them reaches out and snatches her up. One quickly comes up with a box and they stuff the rabbit inside, quickly closing an latching it. There are no openings large enough to any animal larger than an insect to slip through, nor is there enough room for her to return to her normal form. She is completely and utterly trapped in the confines of the box.

The box is carried through the town and into the castle, and down several flights of stairs. The box bounces as the guard takes it down the staircase, and finally the bouncing weakens as the ground becomes level again. The creak of a door resounds as it opens, and the box is laid down on a soft surface. The box is opened a split second before the door goes shut again. The bars have only an inch between them, not enough for anything to get through. Almost immediately after the cell door is closed, the large stone door leading to the dungeon's only visible exit is also closed.

The beast is left alone down there for several minutes, the sound of the other prisoners' mumbling filling the air. Finally, the large stone door opens again, and the king walks in, come to see the terrible yet fascinating creature that had previously invaded his city.

A dodge in one direction, a duck in the opposite... no matter how many hands she slipped past there just didn't seem to be an end to the grabbing. Nor did an opening appear. All she could do was race about in a mad, erratic way without any sort of method except away from the grabbing hands. She held up for a short while, avoiding them within a hair's breath.

The thought did cross her that if she just turned into a bird, she could escape. But no sooner did this notion cross her mind did a strong hand latch onto the scruff of her neck and lift her into the air. Dangling by her very skin, Minno kicked and flailed about with a furious and frightened squeal. Her heart was beating wildly, thumping loudly in her brain. The panick drove her to squirm and turn and flail about more- but she was ensnared. The hand that held her neck released, dropping the panicked bunny into wooden confines.

Before she knew it, her world had turned dark. With claws she scraped and with her body she battered, but the box would not give way. She was in the air again- she could tell by the uneven rocking of the box. For a brief moment she changed into a mouse and attempted to chew through the wood, but the unstable ground sent her tumbling from side to side, bumping into the wooden walls. Unable to take bouncing from wall to wall, she shifted back into the rabbit form, and waited.

The ride only got worse as the box's handler apparently descended down a slope- the stairs that she herself seldom came across, no doubt. Irritated with the bouncing ride, the rabbit let out as menacing a growl as it possibly could, but she was ignored. Which was, perhaps, just as well, given her current form and how ridiculous it looked growling.

Level ground again gave cause for the growl to cease, but the creature lying inside still glared at the wooden walls. Her ears lay flat back, a clear sign of her irritation and anger at the situation. Fangs were revealed with a snarl- this was no innocent bunny they'd trapped in the box.

The rocking stopped as the box found its resting place- steady ground at last! With even footing, the angered rabbit at last stood- just in time for the lid to open and the sound of a shutting door to resound. Her alert ears raised at the noise, but she when she peeked out of her temporary prison she found herself in a new one; larger than the box but a prison all the same. A cage.

Minno snarled.

Her ears flattened back again, and she jumped from the box. As she neared the bars of her cage, her form grew larger until not a rabbit stood in the cell but a very pissed off wolf. She stopped by the bars and snarled through them, peering out at the shutting stone door. Trapped.

"Damn you humans! You blasted damn worms!" She snarled and growled deeply at the space beyond the bars, starting a feral pace back and forth before the barred wall. The cloth once again wrapped around her head, so once more a single eye stared out at everything, narrowed and engulfed in hatred.

She was left to her pacing for a good few minutes, giving her plenty of time to snarl and growl in rage, and effectively silence the others whom lay imprisoned in the same room. Not a sound was made but the angry ruckus caused by the one wolf. It only got worse when the stone door had reopened, allowing a large figure inside. Furious, and desperate for escape, she lunged at the bars, growling and clawing against them. Her voice sounded out with rage.

"Let me out of here, you maggot! Before I rip your body in two! You'll regret keeping me caged!"

The man who previously entered the room makes his way over towards Minno's cell. He stands quite tall, and his dark blue hair reaches down to his waist. He wears a large black robe, with is decorated with sharp tribal designs in a blood red color. Strapped to his waist is his sword, golden in color and the blade being on a large V shape. He takes a position that is a bit more than an arm's length away from the cell door, well out of Minno's reach. "Well you know, what you're saying doesn't really make sense. It seems to me... that as long as you're in there.... you aren't going to be ripping anyone in two. And just to let you know... talking to me like that doesn't really make me feel like letting you out... And since I'm in charge here, that's something you might want to consider before you yell threats at me." His tone of voice as he speaks to the creature is calm and collected, and extremely confident.

The prisoners have all sat up and are facing the direction of the confrontation between their king and this beast. "Now, if you want to get out of there, you'll need to start acting mature enough to talk to. Because if you keep that up... you aren't going anywhere." He leans against the stone wall behind him and crosses his arms smugly, hoping she will calm down, but not really expecting her to do so yet. She seems far to furious and far too arrogant to be subdued this easily.

The king was, in a way, wrong. At his words, the shapeshifter narrowed her eyes at him, her rage reduced to a deep, throaty growl. She stood at the bars, her forepaws pressed against them. They were spread far enough apart for her head to bend between them; her hackles raised and her ears pinned back. She continued to growl deeply, not saying anything more. He was most certainly right: her threats were meaningless if she needed him to let her out.

With as vicious a bark as she could manage, she turned away from the bars of her prison, pacing along the walls once more. Her movement was kept primarily to the back walls, the furthest from the king, but several times she passed by the front again. And each time she gave a deeper, angrier growl.

When Minno spoke again, she hadn't stopped pacing. Not in the least. "You keep your smart words to yourself, swine. I want out of here and I'm getting out. One way or another..."

She snarled again, and with a wicked fury, started to lunge from wall to wall. The angry rumbles from her throat took a higher pitch as she took advantage of the space provided, and shifted into a larger form. Now no wolf paced the cell but an angry horse, whom throttled and bashed against the bars with the force of her entire body. When throwing her own weight around failed to work, she started to slam and kick against them with her hooves, desperate for escape. Nothing more crossed her mind than the need to get out of the cage she was put into.

"Let me out!" She followed the demand with a whinnied shriek, before charging at the bars again. Still the bars would not break, and held true despite the abuse they received.

"You have no reason to keep me here! You had no reason to catch me! I demand that you release me!" Now no horse, but a tiger, whom jumped at the bars and grasped, by her claws, onto the sides. She could hold on to the bars like that for a few seconds before having to drop back down again. Tiger form did nothing to further her escape.

But she did not change again just yet, for the tiger had one great weapon she could put to use. With the jungle king's natural voice, she yelled at the man that dared hold her prisoner- and taunt her for it! A savage, unrestrained roar bellowed through the dungeon; sharp fangs set in plain view of the island's king. The meaning behind the yell need be no clearer: Comply.

Even when the roar ended, the trapped creature continued to rage. Bashing from wall to wall, throwing about her weight- she even tried to gnaw onto the bars. Minno was desperate; she wanted her freedom.

"The damned... of all the damned! Give me back my freedom! Let me out of here, you blasted.... human! Of all the damned races! Human! None other rings more foul a name! I should have killed those men before they set their filth upon me!"

Razarod calmly looks on as the beast thrashes about the cell. The bars are forged of mithril and the stone is incredibly thick and in great condition, there is no way she could muster enough force to break out of her prison. Finally when she completes her rant and has tried her best as a tiger, he speaks again. "Now that we've established that your cell is rather solid... I know you don't want to be in there, but what you did IS illegal... and since you're sentient enough to speak our language, you're also sentient enough to be subject to my laws...

Ironically enough, had she not put on that display and admitted what had happened, the charges would have most likely been dropped quickly. The destruction of property could easily be paid for, for it is only a single chicken. As for the creating a public nuisance, if she agreed to not cause any more commotions in public, there would be no problem. However, now that she has made multiple threats and attempted to break out of prison multiple times, she has to be considered dangerous and belligerent. Which is, one would suppose, quite accurate.

The king pauses and reflects on what she's said so far. She appears to hate humans, in fact, she is quite open about this. However, she is capable of walking on two legs, speaking human languages, using rational though... kinda... but she generally shows many features of humans. In fact, looking at her, one would almost use the term 'half-human' in describing her. So why does she hate something that, as far as it appears, she partially is? "You know... for someone who harbors such a hatred for humans... you appear to have a lot in common with them."

The creature, still rampaging within the four sturdy walls, froze. Her single eye grew round and wide, staring blankly into the space ahead. Slowly, her head turned to the king, and the empty stare turned itself into a glare of the utmost rage. If she weren't completely peeved off before, she sure was now.

"Why you... don't you dare compare me to your kind! We have nothing in common! Nothing! I am in no way like your disgusting race!" Her body held perfectly still, her single eye staring at him with pure hatred. Nothing could have been worse to tell the shifter than what this human had just claimed. That she was anything like a human was to sign oneself up for suicide. The king would best watch his words, because there was more than one way to escape a cell.

"And..." She slowly approached him, the one eye narrowed at the man before her. As she neared, her form shifted to her true form, her fingers slipping themselves around the bars that contained her when she came upon them, grasping them with a grip that could kill any small animal- including the chicken that got her in this mess. "What makes you think your rules apply to me? What in all your haughty, arrogant little mind makes you think even for an instant that I am subject to your stupid little rules?"

A finger pointed at him, the only part of her body that could fit its way out of the cell. Energy attempted to gather on the extended digit, but the vampiress lacked the skill to summon such power without the use of her full body. So the air around her finger heated mildly, but no flame would spark. Only mildly irritated, Minno curled the one limb back around the bar with its siblings, and subjected herself back to glaring through the bars.

"I am above you; you and your rules. And if you wish to argue otherwise... tell me, would you ask the same of a demon? Of course not. Because any race more powerful than you are, human, need not follow your rules. I am a superior race, and you are beneath me. Thus, I am exempt." One hand released its grasp on her confinement, but only so that she could position herself with her shoulder rested against the sturdy poles. Her cheek pressed against them, her one eye fixed through their gap at the man that stood beyond them.

The words she spewed she knew she'd have never uttered a few years ago. It was a fact, however small, that her heart itself belonged to a human. She had willingly allowed it to him, and then, at that time, she knew she'd had his. Whether it was still in her possession now, she had yet to know, but hers had never left his grasp- never would, in all probability. If only she had the chance to see her love again... perhaps then she'd know just how strong their bond held. But it seemed unlikely that they'd ever meet again- it had been years, and far too many. He had aged several years, and in all that time she'd only progressed one age; she would never see another before he was lost to time.

Doomed love, but love all the same.

Her voice calm as it had failed to be since the man had arrived, Minno spoke once more. Softly, but not without its bite of threat to her tone. "Now... release me."

The king's face remains as cold as the stone floor beneath him as the creature takes yet another opportunity to insult the human race. He sits through her tirade about being too good to follow his rules as well, taking in every word. Finally, as her tirade comes to a close, the king gives his answers to her argument. "My rules apply to you because you're in my country, and you're smart enough to be able to follow them. It is my first and foremost duty to protect my people. So anyone who is perceived as a threat, I have to deal with in accordance with the laws I've made to protect them. And out there... they perceived you as a threat. For a good reason, from the sounds of your words." The king takes a few paces back and forth before continuing. "And had it been a demon... their actions would have been far more malicious. And I wouldn't even be giving them the chance to have this conversation. My orders would have been to destroy it immediately. And considering the military I've got.... I could make it happen."

Razarod leans against the wall once again and watches as the creature's demeanor changes, becomes a bit more mellowed out. It seems she's finally decided to behave in a civilized manner. "Now, if I release you, I'll need your assurance that you won't cause any more trouble in my lands. There's plenty of wilderness and plenty of wild animals that you appear to be more than capable of taking down. So, I let you go, and you behave for me. Do we have a deal?"

Minno growled, her ears flattening back against her skull. This damn human didn't know when to take a hint- she was not going to comply with him. He would never have any say over her actions. Never.

"I refuse." She blurted and spat through the bars at him. Behind her, her long length of tail was flicking about in agitation. If he didn't let her out... it would only be a matter of time before she found her own way out. And when she did, this arrogant man would find himself a lowly cripple- at the very least.

Her lips pulled back to reveal her fangs; sharp daggers of pearly white, wanting more than anything to rip apart his unworthy flesh. He still insisted that she follow his rules, clearly blinded by his arrogance into thinking that all fell under them. What a stupid notion; one that she would just have to force from his puny little mind. Difficult task, indeed. How she hated dealing with humans.

"I don't believe you understood me... I will not follow your rules. Just because you claim ownership over land does not mean that I, uninvolved, must follow the stupid rules you lay out for it. What you set are human rules- people rules, for all other races willing to obey them. Just because I have the sentience of man does not make me man, and I will not pretend to be one just because you classify me as one." Her gaze never left his, her one blue eye staring solidly at him with a spark of hatred. If he didn't let her out...

"And I will never behave for you." She snarled suddenly, hitting her arm against the mithril bars in a fit of rage. "Whether or not I behave, it will never be for a human. I will do nothing for you. I am no trained beast that will follow your will, so don't make me out to be one!"

The shifter calmed, but the threatening growl remained. She was getting quite sick of this human forcing his rules on her; if he'd just let her out in the first place, she'd have been more than willing to just rush out to her freedom and be rid of the place. The last thing she really wanted was to hold a debate with a closed-minded human. With her voice low and deadly calm, she spoke again. "Creatures do not apply to your rules... why should I?"

Her fingers curled through the bars once again, her claws scraping along the sturdy metal that contained her. "Do not deny- you implied it yourself. Were I to willingly submit to your word, you would send be back to the forest, a realm for creatures to dwell. I am a creature, so I do not see why you insist on forcing on me your law."

This conversation was going nowhere, and she could see it. Neither was especially willing to budge from their place: either she gave in, which was never going to happen, or he release her. Seeing the futility in her pursuit, Minno retreated from the bars to sit herself in the back corner of her cell, arms crossed as she rested her back against the cold stone wall. Nothing more was said as she shut her eye, waiting for the arrogant creature standing outside her cell to either leave or admit her freedom. There was no way she was going to let him hold say over her.

'Zane... for all I've just said... I'm sorry. Where ever you are...' Minno thought to herself, guilt building up for her harsh words and ready lies. One human would always hold sway over her will; just one could ask for and obtain her compliance. The one man she'd ever loved could ask just about anything of her, and she would accept in an instant. But that human was not this human, and she had no intention of giving in to this one. She had a strong will and was not going to give it up for anything other than her beloved Zane.

"I will get out of here..." She muttered, pulling her knees up against her chest. Her eye refused to meet his as she turned her head away, stubbornly waiting for her unconditioned freedom. If she had to wait for his death... no, she had to be out sooner. There were ones she still had to protect, and one she still had to find. But she would never give in to this man.

The king raises an eyebrow as she utters her refusal once more. How hard is it, really, to stay out of trouble? Surely she has better things to do? Surely she doesn't get some sick, twisted enjoyment out of being in there? But it's no matter. As fascinating as she is, he has business to attend to. "I see... Well that is where you are wrong. To use the old adage many children have suffered under at the hands of their parents... my house, my rules. And this entire island is, as it were, my house. Therefore... I don't see where you really have a choice. But it seems you've made your decision. So there's nothing I can do but leave you here until I know you won't be trying to make any destructive rampages across my kingdom." With that the king turns and makes his way towards the door, about to take his leave.

But as he reaches the door, he stops, turns around, and takes a couple steps back. "You know, you appear to have quite the 'Might Makes Right' mentality. You said something about how a race who is superior, or more powerful, makes the rules... Well maybe whatever you are is born stronger than humans. But we do have one thing going for us: our ability to adapt. Through hard work and discipline, we can learn to possess amazing power. There are dozens of humans in this very building who wield the ability to destroy you as soon as look at you. And there are many more being in the world who could destroy any one of them just as easily. Nobody is as superior as they like to believe. There is always someone superior to you, in some way. Be it strength, magic, intellect, or wisdom... And for the one who has all.... Surely they can't expect to stand alone against the world forever. So remember... you aren't as superior as you think you are. And that arrogance will be your undoing... Like it almost was for me."

For each additional word the king uttered, the shapeshifter flicked an ear. His voice was irritating, grating on every one of her nerves like a rugged file. To add, he was arrogant, full believing yet still that she was subject to his laws. It was a stupid notion to think she, so ageless and aged as to have lived further back than this man's ancestry could trace, was so obligated to following the rules that he placed, just because he called claim over the dirt that had happened to exist beneath her feet. Pure ridiculous, and yet insisted. Persisted! Would this idiot's resistance yet end?

Of course not, but there was still that faint hope that he'd cut his rambling and save her ears. Listening to him speak had grown so tiresome... she was not about to back down, not for a thousand lifetimes, especially lives replicate of her own. Though she lacked the patience to even attempt to wait that long, or even a fraction of it. She wanted out now, and would have nothing otherwise. All in all, it fell about as an endless cycle- she desired freedom, but he would not free her unless she submitted, and that she refused to do.

"I will get out of here..." She muttered again, not sparing him even the quickest glance. Her single eye remained set on the ground, studying each inch of the space before her for a flaw; any sign of any weakness in her confinement. None stood out now, but she'd be certain to do a thorough check once her current nuisance left her some peace of mind. Speaking of... why wasn't he leaving yet?

"You got some place to be, or do you enjoy moving toward the door just to drive me insane? Because it's not working, so you may as well follow through and get out of here." Again she spoke aloud, head shifting toward him but her eye still not looking his way. The last part was a lie, as his motion to the door was bothering her to no end, and she simply wished more than anything that he finally pass through that door and leave. If he just left her alone... that would leave plenty of time to search her cell without that annoying voice in her ear, patronizing her for some wrong-doing that, as she saw it, shouldn't have counted against her in the first place. For one thing, it was just a chicken. Surely that didn't warrant her being caught and subsequently caged? And the whole event was not entirely her fault- though, even if it was, it was completely blown out of proportion by the needlessly panicking townsfolk. If not for the simple-minded humans, she'd be just fine and off on her way like usual; none harmed but a bird.

And yet here she was, the needless victim locked in a cage. Humans had no sense when it came to natural politics- she was a vampiric race with animalistic instincts: naturally, one did not lock up, converse, and proceed to taunt such a creature. As her basic rights, being a creature of uncivilized calling, she deserved the opportunity to scratch and claw the face off of anyone that touched her. She should have, there was no reason to spare those men... why hadn't she thought to cuff them across the face sooner? Too late now, obviously.

'So stupid... so thoughtless. If I had just reacted I would not be trapped in here now! I deserve my freedom! He hasn't the right to take it from me!' In her mind, she was growling, but her vocal chords held still. It was not worth the energy to waste; he would stand solid, safe on the other side of her barred wall. Oh, but if she ever got out... he would pay so dearly!

'So I swear... goodness, Zane, if only you were here! He would know pain, and you would see to it. Wouldn't you?' Her hardset gaze faltered, a frown pressing itself onto her lips. 'You... you would, right? Because... you still love me. Somewhere. It's been years but...'

She sighed, curling up into a tighter ball. Her head leaned forward to rest on her knees, her hair falling forward to hide the droplets that brimmed in her eyes, threatening to streak down her cheeks. It was a thought she couldn't bear- that the center of her life might ever abandon her. However absent, she still held on to him, hoped with every fiber that they meet once more. 'After all... you still have my heart.'

Without looking up, but with ears shifting about to survey the sound, Minno released a gutteral growl before calling out in a prompt demand for the lingering king: "Enough! Get out!"

In the end, she still blamed the chicken's owner for everything. What idiot would be so daft as to keep a hen out in the open like that? It deserved to be eaten.

Razarod casts the beastly woman one last look before making his way out of the room. The heavy steel door slams shut behind him, echoing off the stone walls of the dungeons below the castle. His footsteps resound softly as he climbs the large staircase to the ground floor of the castle. He passes through the halls, the dark-toned wood and luxurious red fabric providing a stark contrast to the dismal appearance of the dungeons below, and continues ascending, this time onto the grand spiral staircase, and makes his way up to his study on the upper floors. He tries to push the creature from his mind. If she is unwilling to cooperate for her freedom, that's her own problem. He can't afford to waste any more time with this matter. The king shuts the door to his study, taking a seat at his large desk and opening the thick, leather-bound register. He begins working silently, fulfilling just one of his many duties as the Lord of Ankgar.

Meanwhile, down in the dungeons, the soldiers continue to stand guard over the prisoners, Minno included, of course. The great metal door has not one, but two locks, and there are two knights by the door, each with a different key on their belt. The lock appears to require both keys to be opened from this side. There is yet another person standing guard, this one is dressed not in the plate armor of the two knights, but in a robe, padded with leather armor over the vital areas. He appears to be unarmed, but in reality is the only person in the room who is able to use magic, due to the area being enchanted. Attempting to break out of this room past these three people would be a nearly impossible feat.

The shifter blew out a sigh of relief when the troublesome body atlast departed, leaving her be in her locked hell. Now that she didn't have his voice grating on her ears she could spare the moment to think over her predicament. Her one eye turned to survey the area, taking in every obstacle that posed itself in her path between where she was and where she wanted to be.

First problem was the bars. They were sturdy and went from ceiling to floor, so there was no gap under or over it that she could make use of, and no apparent weakness given her efforts from just moments before. A challenge, surely, but one only of intellect when it came to escape. If they could not be broken through or gone around, then there was only one way possible to go from one side to the other- through the gaps between the bars. She'd already determined that she could fit her fingers through, so all it would take was a form finger-width to pass through. The bars were no huge concern to her in the least.

The real problem was what existed outside of her cell. With the king gone, the only living souls on which she could bother to waste her breath were a plated pair beside the door and one less-guarded further away from it. Of the three, the unarmored appeared the weakest link, but the beast knew better. His dungeon was already so well guarded, the king obviously had no intent of leaving an unarmed man to watch over his troublesome prisoners. This one had something up his sleeve, and she already had an inkling of just what that was: magic, and the only one free to use it. That was a sure issue to be dealt with.

For the knights she had no real concern, given that, with the right form, she could just as easily toss them aside. The right form indeed, as it could serve both purposes well. Once she got out, she wouldn't have long to act. From one form to the next, she'd have to move swiftly, and getting the most use out of one animal was the best option she had. All was left was to pick a form, and she had just the one in mind. It was perfect; ideal in its size, well defended, and equipped with the right amount of force to take down her human obstacles. All that left was the door, and with any luck she could handle that with little consequence.

Shrinking in size, Minno moved into the first phase of her plan: getting out. As a cobra, she had no hope of fitting through the bars, but that was not the intention. Though she lacked the best of intellect, the shifter was a vicious and seething creature with a good deck of cunning welled up in her head. She knew what part to play, and just the act she had to fulfill to pull off the role. To make her escape successful, she'd have to make her motions unobvious. It had to look... futile. So she slithered from her back corner to one of the front ones, nudging her nose through the small finger-wide gap. Her snout could fit through, but, as she had already expected, the rest of her girth couldn't make it. Yet she continued to pry, nudging her nose through different spaces with recurring results.

She kept up her attempts to press through, waiting to be sure the guards had chosen to ignore her efforts, or at the very least pay little attention to them, before adapting to the body of a smaller snake, and thus slipping her body inbetween the closely spaced bars. Now she was out, and had to act quickly.

Even had the guards taken notice of her escape, she spared them little chance of acting. No sooner was she out, her body expanded, barely fitting within the narrow space. From no legs she progressed to standing on all fours, with a stout and stiff body plated with thick skin. It wasn't a creature that looked fit for speed, but its charge was far more deadly than any fang. Lowering her head with a snort, Minno aimed her thick ivory horn at the guards, and charged them head-on.

A rhinoceros hurtled through Angkar's dungeon.

The guards don't notice the snake slipping through the bars until it's too late. The two knights jump to attention and draw their weapons, but are quickly tossed aside by the rhino's charge. The rhino's offensive is drawn to an abrupt close, however, when she crashes headfirst into a wall. The wizard is still standing, and holding his hand out forward, actually rather casually. There doesn't appear to be a wall there, but it's most certainly there, and will be as long as he is still able to hold it up. Which seems to be a pretty safe bet, as he stands safely on the opposite side of the invisible wall. "One of you go get Razarod... I'll handle this."

The study door bursts open and the knight stumbles inside. "Sir... Razarod... she escaped... We've got her trapped in the dungeon still..."
The king hangs his head and sighs. He had been hoping to get enough reprieve from this obnoxious creature to actually get some real work done. But perhaps that just isn't in the cards today.

Moments later, Razarod emerges through the door and is greeted by the sight of a rhinoceros parked in the middle of the dungeon's hallway, held at bay by an invisible wall. "Well... I guess I've learned one thing from this... We need to up the security down here even more." He turns away momentarily in frustration before turning to face Minno once again. "You may leave. But if this happens again... you'll end up back here. Except we'll make sure you don't get out next time. And you're not walking out of here in that shape. This wall does not come down until you revert to your original form. And... your name. I want a name to go with the face... or faces, rather... that made it past the cell door. The first to ever do so."

The burly beast gave a snort of satisfaction as her horn met squarely with a coat of steel, and then another, leaving shallow impressions on the polished surface of each man's armor-plated torso. Striking both down swiftly, she did not pause once as she charged toward the third, meaning him death if he did not duck aside. But her charge was short-lived, for within short distance of the mage she found herself colliding with an unseen obstacle, and hard. With a resounding crack, the large creature was stopped in its tracks, its body frozen and reeling from the impact.

A chipped horn as the worst of her injury, she were almost thankful that she had not been faster. She was, for the moment, stunned and dazed; incapable of comprehending even the movement that circled around her. Even when she'd gained enough function to shake and toss her head, the incomprehensible fog continued to cloud her senses, leaving her deaf and nearsighted to the goings around her. However incapable she was, however, she kept a formidable front- not at all difficult, given the imposing nature of her form. Blindly she stared down the troublesome mage, awaiting the next move the hapless trio intended to enact.

By the time the king had returned, her senses had mostly cleared, well enough that she was more than up to giving an irritated grunt at his reappearance. Snorting and tossing her head, she made no welcome greeting, the very look in her eye an open threat.

His comment drew another snort from her, this one almost mocking as she raised her head in a show of arrogant pride. He had surely underestimated her, and now knew the price. This one would know better in the future than to put so much faith in her binds- the shifter was an unpredictable creature, and one to be respected. Failure to do as such meant risking the treatment the two guards had had the misfortune of receiving first-hand. 'Perhaps,' she thought smugly, 'they won't be so keen to guard strange beasts in the future.'

She was drawn from her arrogance as the king turned back her way, his next words directed at herself. What he spoke of surprised her, causing her ears to perk upright in telltale interest. It was unforeseeable- he promised her freedom, so long as she gave him her natural state and a name to go with it. They weren't unworldly terms to which she could not abide; just a simple request of face and name. She struggled with an answer, trying to decide whether or not she was willing to oblige or reject him out of spite. Yet no matter how tempting it were to rebel, freedom rang far sweeter a sound than his impending promise: while she had no doubt that she had the means for escape, this attempt had not been quite successful, and she had not the sanity to remain locked up for long.

"You realise that to keep me chained is to keep danger lurking in your shadow... if there is a weakness in this craft, I will find it, and for each hole I find you will pay dearly." Her tone was not egotistical nor one of fury, only flat and factual with an underlying tone of threat. She paced back a few steps from the invisible wall that held her prisoner, her head lowered to bare the unsharp but still imposing horn. Distanced further from them, she stopped and reguarded both he and the mage with a relative calm, before her form began the process of altering itself. When the transformation were complete, a smaller being stood before them; humanoid, and yet absolutely inhuman at the same time. Reaching her hands up only to tighten the wrap about her head, Minno turned her good eye to them, her fangs bared past her lips in warning of the danger that she still posed. "So... a name you ask of me? I see no point in my releasing that to you. Yet I also see no point in my withholding it, 'less only to be a further hindrance to yourself. Seeing as I am not so inclined to dwell within this unworthy place any longer, I suppose I could part with my stubborn pride. If you want a name, here's a name: I am Minno, and I demand you my freedom in return for it."
